Car was recalled 95B. Recall completed in 1/25. Engine light 2/19/25. Car was held until 5/12/25. Had to trade car in for a lost of 6K dollars
We leased a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe in June 2023, and since that time the vehicle has been a chronic source of mechanical and electrical failure. Over the past two years, it has been in for service 11 times, spending more than 115 total days in the shop, with at least 9 repeat issues—largely related to high-voltage interference and hybrid system instability, from our research. The problems began before we ever took possession, with a service record at just 12 miles on the odometer showing a repair to the Integrated Dual Charging Module (1890169A). Since then, we've experienced a cascade of issues affecting sensors, control modules, cameras, switches, and critical vehicle systems—many of which appear to stem from electromagnetic interference (EMI) related to the hybrid platform. Key repairs have included: Park Assist and ADAS control modules (09/28/23) Reprogramming of multiple modules (backup camera, backup sensors) (01/25/24) Backup view camera replacement (02/16/24) Fuel system pump and lighting issues (04/05/24) High-voltage recall 95B, battery coolant pump, wiring harness, battery fire risk & issue (01/30–04/01/25) The final straw came on 05/09/2025, when—while driving 70 mph on the freeway—the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. We lost all acceleration and power, forcing us to drift to the shoulder in traffic. It took multiple restart attempts and a wait period before the vehicle became responsive again. This was not only terrifying—it was dangerous. The next day, the Jeep dealer where the vehicle was purchased, picked up our car, and we’ve received no update on its status. It is currently undrivable, and we fear it’s unsafe. We previously filed for arbitration for with NCDS (March 2023), which was denied. The situation has deteriorated significantly since then, and we are now filing a second arbitration, alongside this formal NHTSA safety complaint. Certified letters sent to the manufacturer earlier this year have gone unanswered.
Forward Collision system and rear collision system (Park sense) are malfunctioning/not operating properly. Dealer stated that it is a "known issue with no known fix." I had two incidents that almost resulted in accidents before I assumed that the system was not working properly. There a no warning lights or indicators showing faults with the systems.
Monday 4/28, as i was driving at approx. 35-38 mph the vehicle came to an abrupt and hard stop, like someone just pounded on the brakes, the engine ceased running. A large red wrench looking icon and something about the battery flashed very quickly on the screen. After a matter of time (please note this was very frightening,, and am unsure of the elapsed time) the car restarted and I continued very slowly to a corner where I could pull off the road and contact the dealership. At the rate of speed I was traveling I was forcefully slammed into the steering wheel, there were cars behind me and in the adjacent lane. My dog in the rear compartment and in her kennel was also forcefully thrown. This vehicle has had on going battery issues and many others as well. This is not the first report I have filed. Vehicle has been at the dealership for one week, I had to insist upon a loaner which they could not provide. Jeep has a program for a comparable vehicle which they set up and which has not provided a comparable auto. I have had no word from the dealership as to repair and issue found. The ongoing safety issues with this vehicle and it's battery system are totoally unacceptable for me. The jeep has spent 3.5 months from 10/14-mid 01/15 parked due to fire or explosion possibility. It has been in the shop repeatedly for up to two weeks at a time with heating and cooling issues. This latest is just another in a long stream of problems unaddressed proprerly by the Jeep corporation. As the vehicle is still in the shop at the dealership I have no items to download at this time.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. The contact received a recall notification letter and suggested that the failure was due to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V576000 (Electrical System). The contact stated that while driving 30-35 MPH, the driver lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, drove off the road, and crashed into a telephone pole. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained bumps and bruises, and medical attention was provided at the site of the crash. The airbag deployed. The contact saw smoke, but it was unclear if there was a presence of fire. The fire department was on the scene. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company.
[XXX]...While driving the vehicle on the [XXX] the vehicle stopped and would not move...ALL systems failed. Warning lights, (flashers) would not work. Cause of failure was later determined to be a malfunction in the electrical system. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Hybrid electric service indicator light comes on. Dealer states they can’t fix it yet. Causes a threat of fire or vehicle breakdown.
3 instances of complete loss of power, 1 while driving. Vehicle came to a hard stop as though I had slammed on the brakes. Dealer and Jeep have acknowledged the problem as a known issue. Jeep is saying it's safe to drive, but dealer agrees it is not and is not returning the vehicle to me. All dash lights came in during each instance and gave the error message "Service Now, Hybrid System Failure." Summary of the 3 instances below. It has been at the dealer since 5/8/2025. 3/29/25 approx 6pm I was stopped, and the error message came on and vehicle shut off. Attempted to restart approximately five times. Let’s sit for a few minutes, vehicle restarted and all error messages went away. 4/23/25 6:30pm Driving at low speed, air Messages came on vehicle abruptly stopped, narrowly avoided, getting rear ended, passengers complaint of neck pain. Engine turned on, all error messages immediately went away. 5/6/25 5:35pm Error messages came on while driving, engine started, no impact to driving. Error messages went away almost immediately. Jeep S.T.A.R. case was created
Starting at around 12k miles, my odometer started flashing and backup cameras completely stopped working, unable to see while backing up, at the same time the active lane management and auto emergency braking went out as well, took my car into the dealership and was told pam module was not good and covered under manufacturer warranty, even after pam module was replaced, the active lane management and auto emergency braking is still not working
On the highway from Chicago to Boston while driving 70 MPH my car had LOST ALL power. I was barely able to get car from left lane to right side of road. Truck almost hit us. We immediately reported incident to our dealership and their response was “we have nothing but problems bring the car in”. We were 300 miles away and they said there was nothing they can do. I restarted car and appeared normal. On way home outside Chicago on Highway at high speed we lost all power AGAIN. Started back up and returned home and called Field dealership in Glenview and Chrysler corporate. We brought Car in and they have had it for week with no solution or phone call.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V576000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH and exiting a highway, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact was able to get to the side of the road and turn off the vehicle, and made several attempts at restarting the vehicle before being able to continue driving. The failure reoccurred several times while driving at various speeds. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. After taking the vehicle to the dealer, the "Check Hybrid" warning light illuminated. The vehicle hesitated while driving at various speeds as if the vehicle was going to stall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
I started with the 95B recall when car owners were instructed to not plug in their vehicles or park near any other structures for about 4 months until a fix was released. Then my car experienced multiple SERVICE HYBRID SYSYTEM errors. The car physically shut down on two separate occasions, both while I was transporting my child, putting us at extreme risk for an accident. It has been at the dealership since July 2025 with the mechanic receiving a DIGITAL CRASH CODE. His attempts to talk with someone at Jeep/Stelantis have gone unanswered. The vehicle is currently located at the Jeep dealership in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico and is available for inspection upon request.
There is a loss of power in the moment the propulsion changes from electric to gas followed by an error message to "service hybrid electrical system". Dealer inspected an found there is currently no remedy. Seems to be a known issue by now.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The red wrench hybrid system warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
While idling (vehicle running in electric mode) in park, for approximately 10 minutes we attempted to put the car in drive. The vehicle acted as if it needed to be turned on, displaying the message "Press Brake and Push Button to Start" while also displaying a red battery light. Different warning messages came up showing Traffic Sign Assist Unavailable and others. We could not turn the vehicle off even with holding down the start/stop button, were unable to shift the vehicle either. Finally after ten minutes of pressing the start/stop button the vehicle finally shut off and we were able to restart it with no issues. The next week as I was driving, I would randomly get a warning light with a red wrench and a message that said Service Hybrid System. Both instances have happen two additional times. The vehicle is now sitting at the dealership and they are unable to diagnose the problem. This all has occurred after the 95B recall work was completed. This is a safety issue as the vehicle will not shut off and won't shift. So if the vehicle is parked inside of a garage and idles and then doesn't shut off that will lead to carbon monoxide leaking into the houses. Or being stranded somewhere unable to move your vehicle.
My cars dash had a lot of lights turn on and my car just shut off while I was driving I took my car to the dealership and was told that they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. About six weeks later my car just turned off again while I was driving but this time only the service hybrid light turned on and quickly turned off. I just called the dealership and will be dropping off my car again.
In February I had the 95b recall completed and a short time afterwards started getting a service hybrid vehicle system light and even a check engine light at one point. One of those instances with the service hybrid vehicle system light my car just turned off while I was driving it with my children in the back seat and cars behind me. I lost all control of the steering and vehicles power except it switched to the accessory. I tried to restart but it would not. I had to come to a complete stop, place in park, turn off the accessory and then restart the vehicle. The vehicle was seen promptly following the incident where I was told to drive it on esave and they would try ordering a part that could possibly be a fix. While waiting for the part the vehicle was seen at another dealership that recommended not replacing that part that there was no issue with the vehicle and to drive it on e save or make sure the battery had a charge while driving in hybrid mode. Which is not a solution. Since then I have had several instances of the service hybrid vehicle system warning lights and that includes while driving it on e save which is gas only. Unfortunately the warning comes and goes quickly while driving so it’s not always easy to take a photo while driving although I do have a few to attach.
A couple months ago our check engine light came on. Through going to the dealership and a local mechanic we found out that it's an electrical issue as well as a safety issue. The wire connections have failed. This led to the grill shutters being forced open and if they close there will be no air going to the engine which will cause the engine to seize and/or a fire, which would lead to an accident and/or death. This isn't a safety recall at this point and this is a very big concern.
Power steering light came on and I took my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.6L) to Cape Coral Chrysler Jeep Ram and they said it would be $3929.89 to fix for me. Replace Steering Rack and Pinion. This is a SAFELY ISSUE and I feel I should have to pay that much to fix a 2023!!!
I own a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe that is currently subject to an active safety recall involving a fire hazard. I have been advised that the vehicle should not be parked in a residential garage due to risk of fire. At this time, no permanent repair or remedy has been made available. This significantly limits safe residential use of the vehicle. I previously notified the manufacturer, FCA US LLC, via certified mail requesting guidance or resolution regarding the unresolved recall and safety risk. FCA received the correspondence but did not respond. The vehicle remains under recall with no remedy available, and the manufacturer has been non-responsive. I am concerned about ongoing fire risk, lack of interim safety measures, and inability to safely use or store the vehicle as intended. I am requesting NHTSA review of the unresolved recall remedy and manufacturer response related to this safety issue.
Was driving at night on a rural highway. Experienced a complete electrical failure - all lights, engine function, power steering and power brakes failed; coasted to the side of the road. ~~I thought that I had just run out of gas, but adding gas did not permit the car to restart. Tow truck could not jump start the vehicle. It was towed to the dealership, where they replaced the regular battery (<20k miles on it), performed the hybrid battery software upgrade (the "recall"), sent me home. Towing and rental coverage were not offered. ~~BTW, I had requested this recall about 3 months previously, but it was "not available" yet. ~~The vehicle continued to stutter intermittently, concomitantly flashing the "service hybrid battery light." I took it back to the dealership. They ran tests, inspected it for unwarranted damage, cleared out the codes, and sent it home. ~~Another 2 months of the same incidents, sometimes with a "refuse to start in the morning" altogether aggravation. I grew increasingly concerned for my safety and the safety of others on the highway. Obviously, this problem wasn't going to go away with just ignoring it and hoping for the best. ~~I contacted the dealership to bring it in for service again; they refused to even entertain the idea of providing me with a rental until they could fix it, even knowing that it's clearly a warranty issue. I took it to a different Jeep dealership, somewhat distant from my home but actually the dealership from which I had purchased it online. They were so kind, got me into a rental and promised to look into it. They got in contact with the manufacturer quickly. Jeep engineering department admitted they can't fix it. 6 weeks later, they still haven't fixed it, I'm paying almost $3000/m for pmt& insurance for a car that's unsafe to drive, but the corporation hasn't offered me any options to get out of a lease.
Today my steering locked up ,was not driving on the highway but was on my way when the steering said on my screen the loss of power steering .So afraid this will happen again and me driving. Yes it is at dealership now. Had to have it towed. The Vehicle is at dealership .Yes the red steering wheel was on the screen and the loss of steering when I was trying to back out of my carport. So afraid this will happen on the main road in traffic and I or another person will get hurt. Could not even turn the steering when backing out of my carport. Thank you for checking on this. These cars are dangerous when this happens. Bad thing is in all these cars they don’t know how to fix them, cause they can’t find what this problem is.
I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding my hybrid Jeep vehicle due to ongoing and unresolved safety issues that present a significant risk to myself and others. Since the beginning of ownership, I have experienced repeated and escalating problems with the vehicle, including: * Hybrid system malfunction warnings and persistent red wrench indicator * Aggressive and unsafe gear shifting while driving * Vehicle stalling unexpectedly * Vehicle intermittently failing to turn on or shut off properly In addition to these critical concerns, my vehicle has been under Recall 68C since October 2025. To date, there has been no available remedy provided. I have been explicitly instructed not to park the vehicle in a garage or near structures and to avoid charging the vehicle due to an increased risk of fire. This situation has created significant hardship and safety concerns. I am unable to safely use or store my vehicle as intended. I have also been informed that potential fire damage related to this issue may not be covered by homeowners insurance, further increasing the risk and liability I am being forced to assume. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues through proper channels, including dealership service visits and manufacturer communication, no resolution has been provided. This vehicle poses a clear safety hazard due to: * Risk of fire associated with the hybrid battery system * Unpredictable stalling and drivetrain behavior while in operation * Lack of manufacturer remedy for an active safety recall I am requesting immediate investigation, accountability, and corrective action to ensure the safety of consumers affected by this issue
Various vehicle systems fail to operate. Power steering may not work, parts of the powertrain may fail to operate. The vehicle has a code B273C-00 which Stellantis says their engineers are aware of but have no fix nor any timeline for a fix. This can rendee the vehicle inoperable or dangerous to drive as there is no knowing which vehicle systems will fail. This is an ongoing problem, not a one time event.
A known issue by jeep affecting many Grand Cherokee PHEV Hybrids, all following the 95 B recall. The recall repair 95 B is attributed to be causing Red Flag Dashboard Warnings to "service hybrid system". Dealer computer scans document these incidents as a "Digital Crash" of the vehicle's onboard computer. Multiple incidents for me have been transitory but for others, these digital crashes are causing engine shut downs on the highway -- see the attachments for 4 such cases downloaded from the Jeep website. Obviously crazy things can happen when a car's computer shuts down while driving -- no one knows if my next Digital Crash could shut down my engine when I am in a multi-car passing situation on a 2 lane highway at 70 MPH and yet that scenario is happening to others. I have seen 3 jeep dealers and have documentation on those digital scans for my vehicle-- Jeep is aware of the problem but they have no-fix. There are over 500 complaints on the public jeep 4xe website across multiple conversation threads of people having this exact problem. You can see from the attachment that the dealers are telling owners that the cars are 'unsafe to drive' because they do recognize that the next digital crash of the computer will be a fatal accident. None of these problems existed before that recall was available in January. Something in that NHTSA 95 B recall for the Grand Cherokee PHEV was defective and is causing these digital crashes -- jeep does not dispute that, at least from what I have been told. Jeep has to be required to do another recall to fix the earlier 95 B recall. It has been close to 6 months now without a fix and nothing is happening. It is probably a software fix, but it needs to be done and at this point it appears that they must be forced to do so by NHTSA. Please see the 4 attachments of what others have encountered. < on your below questions -- Multiple incidents, multiple dates, multiple speeds for me>
Vehicle: 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe Problem Description: While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle suddenly loses all propulsion and displays a message stating: “Put in Park Before Restarting.” This happens without warning, creating an immediate safety risk in traffic. The engine shuts down, and I am forced to stop in the middle of the road, shift to park, and manually restart the vehicle. This has occurred multiple times. The dealership and Jeep customer service acknowledges the issue but says no repair is available and has not resolved it. I’ve also been without a reliable vehicle since February 2025. I am aware of NHTSA complaints #11579877 and #11576290 describing identical problems in the same make/model/year. I believe this defect is related to the battery or hybrid powertrain system and poses a serious safety hazard to myself and others. I am also aware of NHTSA Recall 24V720000 related to battery issues, which may be linked to this sudden power loss. Symptoms: •Sudden loss of drive power •“Put in Park to Restart” message •Dash warnings (wrench/lightning bolt/hybrid system fault) •Must restart car to regain function Date problem began: [Feb 2025] Mileage: [17000] Vehicle still unrepaired and unsafe to drive.
There was a recall for my cars, hybrid electrical system. We were told not to park it in the garage, not to plug it in, etc., for months. That was in the fall of 2024. In December, I had to have my car towed to the dealershipto have regular battery replaced under warranty, and while it was there, Jake Sweeney Jeep, in Cincinnati, allegedly did the recall service. Immediately thereafter, my car started losing power while I was driving, with a message reading, Service hybrid electrical system.“ My car has been back to the dealership four times, I had a Starr case opened with Jeep, and was told that they are aware of the problem, don’t know when it will be fixed, and that I should take the car back home. It has happened when I was driving 65 mph on a highway, complete loss of power, I had to limp over to the shoulder, then back to the dealership. The codes were red, and the technicians said they were aware of it, but had no fix for it. They said they even had some units for sale on their lot with the exact same problem. At this time, Jeep is saying they do not know when They will have a fix for this on the hybrid vehicles. This seems very unsafe to me, because it happens, intermittently, at all different speeds.
When accelerating at highway speeds there is a significant power lag when the vehicle switches from between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric motor causing deceleration in the vehicle. This is typically followed by a sudden surge in power causing rapid acceleration. This causes unpredictable speed and makes merging onto highway traffic difficult. When this issue occurs the "Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle System" warning lights illuminates. After several miles, the warning will turn off, but this occurs off and on when changing lanes, merging, or braking in heavy traffic. This typically only occurs at highway speeds when the vehicles transfers between ICE and Electric power frequently and has not been observed at normal city street speeds. The sporadic acceleration performance makes this vehicle dangerous to drive at highway speeds unless the electric motor is turn off. The car has been returned to the dealership numerous times to address this issue as it is still covered under warranty. However, they have informed us that "The code present in the car is currently under investigation by Chrysler. The Chrysler representative told us not to change any parts until Chrysler makes a decision on a potential recall." Despite repeated calls with Stellantis / Jeep customer service who promised us to expedite parts to the dealership for resolution, we are stil left driving this unsafe vehicle. This problem arose within 48 hours of the battery recall maintenance being performed and has been recurring ever since the repair.
This vehicle does not alert or activate forward collision warnings or automatic braking. Other reports from 2022-2023 by Grand Cherokee owners confirm that the system is not working for many Grand Cherokee.
Jeep electrical system shut down in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Parmus NJ in Dec-24, Jeep service department couldn't identify the issue and was left unresolved.
My wife was driving my kids to school and the jeep went into limp mode. This jeep relies too much on the battery to run everything and the batteries failed, at 39k and 2 years of ownership. It was showing steering, sos, brake, airbag, anti collision system failures with no prior warnings.
The contact leased a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 25-30 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart for approximately one hour. The contact stated that upon using the key to start the vehicle, the vehicle was able to start for approximately 10 seconds and shut off after pulling to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that a fuse was incorrectly installed by the factory. The dealer performed the repair. The contact stated that after the repair, the hybrid system became inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving on another occasion. The vehicle was towed to the service center; however, the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not in the parking lot. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 13,200.
The vehicles dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree while driving ( Abs, traction control, check engine light) and the brakes virtually not functional. This has now occurred 3 times. After the first occurrence and the Abs module being replaced it occurred 17 days later and then stated to be an issue with a software update. 5 days after this occurred again. Booster module replaced...
Jeep Cares case [XXX] While driving with Lane Keeping Assistance/cruise control enabled, on a dry clear road (XXX) Between Exit [XXX] and Exit [XXX] - both directions. It has happened elsewhere, but these are our major commuting route. The jeep would all the sudden veer to the right or left out of the lane, and we would have to fight the lane tracking to keep it centered in lane. Our Jeep Wrangler has been in the repair shop for at least 4 occurrences of the issue. 1st was initial diagnosis at about 6,000 miles. Was told that the sensors needed realignment and to bring back so they could keep for the day and it was long process. At that appointment we were told that the alignment was out and needed to be adjusted. During the adjustment, a part was damaged and needed to be replaced, the replacement part was damaged requiring a 3rd part. Time in shop was almost 30 days. 2nd attempt was about 24,000 miles. This time the alignment of sensors was performed, but on test drives, it still ended up pulling to the right and repair shop consulted with Jeep engineers about the situation and determined that at least one part needed to be replaced. Time in shop was another 30 days. After this repair, it pulls even harder and requires additional force to maintain center lane, including more occurrences pulling to the left into oncoming traffic. At 35,000 miles, opened case with Jeep Cares as warrantee is due to expire at 36,000 miles. Jeep currently at repair and after multiple test drives... they are not able to find the trouble. This is a safety issue as it unexpectedly pulls the vehicle into oncoming traffic. We have 2023 Jeep Compass with similar system with no issue Dealer and Service location: Hendick Chrysler, Jeep Ram 7630 Hendrick Auto Plaza NW Concord, NC 28027 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving on the interstate when dark (during the evening hours). I had the headlights on via the "auto" position. Without any warning the dashboard lights and headlights shut off. This has happened on two different occasions, [XXX] and [XXX]. After stopping, shutting off the car and restarting the lights resumed working. I have since taken the car to a Jeep dealership for repair. The dealership told me they need support from Chrysler and that I needed to contact Chrysler to set up a case. I did that on 11/21/2024. After making that initial contact Chrysler has been unresponsive. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Rear tailgate will periodically just close. When this occurs, it is just after reaching full open. At times it takes extreme force to halt it in its travels. I have brought it to the Jeep dealer but it did not repeat while they were checking it, so they said there is nothing that can be done. I am reporting this in event it is more wide spread, as I picture a child getting hurt by this (needless to say, I do not let my grandchildren near this!)
I am reporting ongoing safety concerns with my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (VIN: [XXX] ) related to repeated high-voltage battery defects and loss-of-power risks. The vehicle has already been subject to NHTSA Recall 25V576 (FCA 73C), which I completed, but the underlying electrical/battery issues continue to raise serious safety concerns. As of November 2025, my vehicle is now listed under NHTSA Recall 25V776 (FCA 68C), which involves a defect inside the high-voltage battery cells that can lead to a vehicle fire even when parked and turned off. Stellantis has instructed owners not to charge the vehicle and to park it outdoors, indicating a significant and ongoing safety risk. No remedy is currently available. Additionally, a separate recall—NHTSA 25V766 (FCA 78C)—was recently announced for 2023–2025 Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles regarding potential engine contamination that can cause engine failure or fire. While my VIN is not yet listed under 25V766, my model year and 2.0L hybrid powertrain fall within the affected range. These overlapping recalls, combined with recurring electrical issues across the 4xe lineup, reflect a broader pattern of safety defects that place owners at risk. The cumulative trend is alarming: multiple consecutive battery-related fire recalls, prior software updates that failed to resolve the issue, and now possible engine contamination. These issues continue to undermine confidence in the vehicle’s safety, reliability, and long-term performance. I am submitting this complaint because the vehicle remains subject to an open fire-risk recall with no repair available, and the expanding list of related recalls suggests a systemic problem with the Jeep 4xe’s high-voltage and engine systems. I am seeking NHTSA’s further review and investigation. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have had 2 incidents in which the 2nd row seat belts on either of the end seats fails to release. The first incident resulted in a seat belt being wrapped around the headrest and unable to release. I had to take the car to a mechanic for it be undone resulting in a broken headrest. This was in May 2024. Today the seatbelt was stuck around my child's abdomen. The seatbelt got tighter around his stomach and he tried get out of it. I parked the car and tried to get the seatbelt to release and it refused to. It continued to get tighter and tighter making it difficult to breathe. I had to call 911 for assistance on the side of the road. 2 police officers had to help me lift him and get him free- the entire time the seatbelt refused to release. My son has bruises and scratches from trying to get out and now is terrified to wear a seatbelt. There is something wrong with the mechanism for the seatbelt that does not allow it release. I am now scared that if we are in an accident and the seatbelt tightens across someone's chest or one of my children's neck that I won't be able to get them out in time. This has been reported to Jeep who advised that I fill out this form.
The jeep will display “power steering unavailable” while driving, causing the steering wheel to lock up and be unable to turn while driving. Then the automatic braking, collision warning, and lane departure will all announce it is unavailable. This has caused us almost to crash multiple times. We took the vehicle to Jeep, they witnessed the power steering fail while driving, and told they can not find any remedy. This has been a daily occurrence since.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 35-45 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the messages that the ABS and the gear switch were locked, and other unknown messages were displayed. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal and turning the rotary dial to drive(D), the rotary dial independently shifted back to park(P). The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was jumpstarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and remained at the dealer for several months. The contact stated that the dealer had recently informed her that the transmission was leaking, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,811.
Since purchase the vehicle has had a number of electrical issues. From non functioning automatic mirrors, and memory seating, to blacking out infotainment systems to the bigger recalls. Jeep issued a recall notice early October of 2024 for the High Voltage (hybrid) battery. The recall advised customers not to charge the vehicle due to risk of fire. The hybrid feature was the main reason for purchasing this specific vehicle. With my wifes daily commute well withing the batteries capacity we were filling up at the gas station about once a month. Now being unable to charge the vehicle we were filling up more than weekly. This obviously increased the cost of ownership quite a bit. This also greatly decreased the performance of the vehicle as the electric motors provided significantly more power to the underpowered 4 cylinder gas engine. At some point I debated charging the vehicle anyway but being that my home charging area is directly below my [XXX] sons bedroom I ultimately decided against it. Brought the vehicle to the dealer in November of 24 and they refused it as no repair had been released. I tried to stay on top of things, following multiple web forums to have the most up to date information. When I knew that the fix was to be released in the first week of the new year I attempted to get ahead of it and make a service appointment. The dealer would not allow this even though I knew the fix would be available. By the time the “fix” was formally release and I was able to call to make an appointment they were nearly 2 months out from their first available date. After Jeep "fixed" the recall we have been getting intermitent "service hybrid electric vehcle system" warnings on the dash board as well as random losses in power to the engine and or motor. Brought back to dealer where they acknowledged software issue but had no fix available. They determined it was "safe" to dirve and had me take it back. The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The contact stated several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift into the intended gear. Additionally, the contact stated that an unusual alarm had sounded while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and could not be returned to the contact. The contact stated that the failure initially started a day after the vehicle was purchased, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The contact stated that while the dealer's mechanic was test-driving the vehicle, the mechanic was nearly involved in a crash due to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact requested buy-back assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
For the second time since the vehicle was purchased EPS failed. The first time there were other issues and errors. The car cannot safely be driven under these conditions. When taken to the dealer they say they cannot recreate the issue and then it is drivable. Our concern is that these issues are not being properly logged and there is a serious electrical defect in the car that could result in a failure while it is being driven. Since there is "no trouble found" it does not need to be logged by the dealer and information will never reach the OEM to note an issue and drive recalls or corrective quality actions.
The automatic emergency braking system activates randomly while driving abruptly stopping the vehicle in traffic. This has happened several times and we no longer feel safe driving. Luckily no one has been behind us when it happens otherwise I feel a crash would be unavoidable. The vehicle has now been to the dealer twice with no repairs made. The techs are always unable to duplicate the concern. Last time this happened my wife was driving around 40mph when the crash warning message flashed and stopped the vehicle. (no one was in the way).
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle was shaking severely, vibrating, and bucking, causing the driver to almost lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle started losing motive power and stalled. During the failure, the "Power Steering" and "Power Brake" failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The contact stated that the secondary battery was previously replaced due to a failure with starting the vehicle. The failure mileage was 44,000.
Massive alerts, on and off every few miles, then power steering locked out when pulling into an intersection. Almost was hit. Luckily, I was able to put the car in reverse and back into the side street. This needs immediate attention. Had the vehicle towed to dealer.
Automatic headlight dimmer not working. Long delay to turn on bright lights. Dangerous lack of visibility.
Started vehicle and had no power steering. Tried multiple times starting the vehicle, no luck. Came back after 45 minutes and tried again and the vehicle was fine.
This vehicle had a software update for the cross traffic warning and rear view camera. The camera is working but since this update, the cross alarms do not work consistently. Just today, I almost backed into a parked car, no alarms or anything.
Powertrain/engine performance (acceleration control): vehicle struggles to accelerate when pressing the gas. Transmission / drivetrain (gear engagement / shift control): vehicle drops from Reverse into Neutral without driver input (unintended gear disengagement). Water intrusion: ongoing water intrusion, power tailgate was already replaced due to water erosion, when it rains or snows water gets into vehicle resulting in a musty/moldy smell and driver side mat soaking wet. Yes — the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The loss of acceleration / hesitation / jolting creates a risk of being unable to merge, cross intersections, or accelerate in traffic when needed. The unintended shift from Reverse into Neutral can cause loss of intended vehicle control/movement while reversing (driveway/parking lot risk), increasing collision risk with nearby vehicles, pedestrians, or property. Reverse → Neutral: Reported to dealer multiple times; confirmation varies by visit (intermittent concern) Stellantis Customer Retention states they spoke with the service manager and confirmed the repair history and dealer visits, not necessarily a physical engineer inspection.
