MY DAUGHTERS FRONT WHEEL BROKE LOOSE FROM HER CAR WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF ABOUT 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE LEFT WHEEL COMING OFF. BOTH SIDES HAD BROKEN LOWER BALL JOINTS. JEEP DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE CAR WAS NOT COVERED SINCE THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE. IF THIS HAD HAPPEN GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE OR HIGHWAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. THE CAR HAD TO BE REPAIR ONSITE, BECAUSE BOTH TIMES THE WRECKER COMPANY SAID IT MAY DAMAGE THE FINDER IF MOVED.
[XXX]: COMPLAINT ABOUT JEEP BACKING PLATES: 2006 JEEP LIBERTY VIN # [XXX].I AM WRITING ABOUT A SAFETY PROBLEM WE ENCOUNTERED OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS; 8-13 AND 9-3-15 I ALMOST DROVE OFF THE ROAD WHEN SUDDENLY MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE,LOUD, CLAMORING NOISE OCCURRED, WHICH MADE IT IMPERATIVE THAT I PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD/AWAIT ASSISTANCE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE BACKING PLATES HAD CORRODED AND RUSTED TO SUCH A SEVERE DEGREE THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE WITHOUT EXPENSIVE REPAIRS (557.97 EACH TIME).THE CLOSE TIMING OF THESE INCIDENTS SHOW THAT THE LIFESPAN OF THESE PARTS WERE NOT MADE TO LAST. JEEP DECLINED THE REQUEST TO REIMBURSE EXPENSES PAID, AND FAILED TO ADDRESS THE BIGGER SAFETY CONCERN. I WORRY SOMEONE WILL NOT BE AS LUCKY WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN A VEHICLE <10 YRS OLD USED SOLELY AS A PASSENGER VEHICLE, IS MADE OF SUCH POOR QUALITY PARTS THAT THEY LITERALLY RUST OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE IT IS IN TRANSIT. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THE EXTENT OF THESE BACKING PLATE ISSUES, I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS FROM A QUALITY, FINANCIAL, AND SAFETY PERSPECTIVE, YET I SEE THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE. IT IS MY VIEW THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS QUALITY ISSUE BEFORE I ALMOST HAD ACCIDENTS TWICE WITHIN A 3 WEEK PERIOD. THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF SEVERAL CONSUMER SAFETY RECALLS, I AM SURPRISED THAT THIS HAS BACKING PLATE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN BROUGHT TO ATTENTION OF OWNERS SO THAT IT COULD BE RESOLVED IN AN EXPEDITIOUS MANNER AT THE COST OF JEEP CORP. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT THEIR COMPANY WAS AWARE OF AND PARTS SHOULD NOT ?ROT? OFF QUALITY VEHICLES. JEEP RESPONDED ON 9-29-15 AND FAILED TO MENTION THE SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. AFTER PUTTING MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOWN COMPLETELY, IT WILL NOT GO BACK UP. THE MOTOR RUNS, IT MAKES A SOUND, BUT WINDOW DOES NOT MOVE. I WAS FORCED TO LEAVE MY CAR PARKED IN A MEDICAL CENTER PARKING GARAGE DURING MY WORK SHIFT 4:00PM TO 12:00AM. OF COURSE, IT WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE FOR ME, A YOUNG FEMALE, TO RETURN TO MY OPEN CAR AND HAD TO BE ESCORTED BY A SECURITY OFFICER. I THEN DROVE THE 25 FREEWAY MILES HOME COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. HAVING GOOGLED THE MALFUNCTION, I LEARNED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I AM ASTOUNDED TO ALSO LEARN THAT CHRYSLER DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE. AS A COLLEGE STUDENT, I AM NOT FINANCIALLY ABLE TO INCUR THIS EXPENSE, NOR DO I THINK I SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO, AND AM ASKING THAT CHRYSLER PERFORM REPAIRS ON ALL FOUR WINDOWS AT NOT COST TO ME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A ROARING NOISE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND STRUCK THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE BRAKES SEIZED AND THE PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE POLICE FILED A REPORT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. AS I WAS LEAVING THE GROCERY STORE I HEARD A SLAM NOISE IN THE BACK PASSENGER AREA OF MY JEEP LIBERTY. I PULLED BACK INTO THE PARKING AND SAW THAT MY REAR PASSENGER WINDOW HAD FALLEN INTO THE DOOR. I WENT ONLINE TO INQUIRE ABOUT IT AND SAW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR THE MAJORITY OF 06 JEEP LIBERTY OWNERS ALIKE. I CALLED CHRYSLER JEEP AND BECAUSE THERE'S NO RECALL ON MY VIN I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS MYSELF. IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE AND I'M NOT ABOUT TO PAY FOR ANOTHER FAULTY PART LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DID. MY FATHER PAID TO FIX THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IN MARCH. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL IN AUGUST 2015. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY CHRYSLER DUE TO ALL OF THESE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS!
MY BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IS PARTIALLY INOPERATIVE. THERE WAS A ISSUE WITH THE BLOWER MOTOR THAT WAS A RECALL ITEM AND IT WAS ADDRESSED IN THIS CAR BY PREVIOUS OWNER BUT I BELIEVE THE BLOWER MOTOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALSO
EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK IT OVERFLOWS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME CAR AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE SAME PROBLEM AND IN ONE CASE THE PERSON TOLD ME THAT JEEP REPAIRED IT AS PART OF RECALL, BUT I DO NOT SEE IT AS A RECALL SPECIFICALLY, AND WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER ABOUT IT THEY SAID IT IS NOT A RECALL ITEM FOR THE CAR. THIS IS A LIBERTY SUBMODEL
THE LOWER BALL JOINT BROKE CAUSING THE FRAME AND WHEEL TO SEPARATE. THE FRAME FELL ONTO THE TIRE. THE RIM WAS SLICED COMPLETELY IN HALF. AND THE BRAND NEW TIRE WAS BUSTED. IT CAUSED US TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE FEARED OF THE ROAD AND LANDED INA DITCH. WE HAD TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK PICK UP THE VEHICLE. IT COST US 300 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE BROUGHT HOME. AFTER GETTING HOME WE FOUND OUT THE PIECE THAT BROKE, THE LOWER BALL JOINT, WAS PART OF THE JEEP RECALL IN 2006. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY DID ADMIT THAT PART WAS A RECALL FIX IN 2006. WE ARE NOW WAITING ON CHRYSLER TO CALL US BACK TO LET US KNOW WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSE TO DO NEXT. WE ARE WITHOUT A VEHICLE.

THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY HAS AN EXPOSED GAS TANK SUSCEPTIBLE TO EXPLODING ON REAR-END COLLISION. AS THE OWNER OF A USED LIBERTY I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS WAS REQUESTED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED DUE TO REQUEST MISPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED CASE NUMBERS: 57876805, 57684064, AND 57185298. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHILE DRIVING THERE IS A RAMBLING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY FRONT OF MY VEHICLE, WHEN I PRESS ON THE BREAKS THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE, I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO SOUTHERN CHRYSLER JEEP OF GREENBRIER LOCATED IN CHESAPEAKE, VA AND THEY ADVISE THE UNIT NEED FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND LOWER BALL JOINTS. ACCORDING TO CONTACTING CHRYSLER THE MANUFACTURE I WAS ADVISE THE PART WAS INITAL CHANGE IN 2007 AND THE CURRENT PART (LOWER BALL JOINTS) IS CURRENTLY ON BACK ORDER. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER/SERVICE FACILITY THEY STATED THERE IS APPROXIMATE 500 LOWER BALL JOINTS ON BACK ORDER, I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER VIA WEB CHAT AND THEY CONFIRM PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE EXPRESS MY FEAR OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE DUE TO ISSUE AND ASK TO BE COMPENSATE FOR A CAR RENTAL IN WHICH I WAS DECLINE. I AM COMPLAINING DUE TO PART STOCK AVAILABILITY IS UN-ACCEPTABLE AND I FEAR OF DRIVING THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE
LEAVING DRIVEWAY MOVING ABOUT 5MPH THERE WAS A LOUD BANG,CHECKING THE NOISE I FOUND THE DRIVER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT BOLT BROKE IN HALF.HAD TO TOW VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP.
WHEN IT RAINS MY FLOOR BOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE FLOODS WITH 5 TO 6 INCHES OF WATER. I LIVE IN FLORIDA & WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF RAIN THE LAST MONTH & 1/2. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED UNTIL NOW. WHY?????.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V288000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,700.
PARKED VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING 20 MIN. GOING ABOUT 70MPH. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, THE CAR STARTED STEAMING. I POPPED THE HOOD TO FIND COOLANT AND WATER OVERFLOWING FROM THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTICS TO FIND THE LEAK WITHIN THE SYSTEM. TOOK THE MANIFOLD OFF THE ENGINE AND REALIZED IT WAS CAUSED BY BAD/ CRACKED HEADS ON THE ENGINE CONNECTING TO MANIFOLD. A LOT OF THIS TYPE OF ENGINE HAS THIS PROBLEM, SEEN BY THE LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC IN VAIL VALLEY, COLORADO WHERE JEEPS ARE COMMON. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN EXCESS. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT AND A TREE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED DEPRESSED AFTER THE CRASH. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEST, LEFT ARM, AND LEG INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
WHILE DRIVER IS PARKING CAR, THE IGNITION RELEASED THE KEY WHILE THE CAR WAS IN GEAR, CAUSING CAR TO ROLL AND CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WHEN THE DIESEL JEEP STALLED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET. I CHECKED AND THERE WAS AIR IN THE DIESEL FUEL LINE. WHEN I USED THE PUMP TO PRIME IT FUEL STARTED LEAKING AROUND THE HEATING ELEMENT ELECTRICAL FITTING. WHEN I PULLED THE FITTING YOU COULD SEE CHARRING AROUND THE END. THE VEHICLE NOW GETS AIR IN THE LINES AND STALLS ALL THE TIME. I HAVE PULLED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF FIRE. *TR

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V085000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

AFTER A SERVICE AT FERMAN CHRYSLER IN NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA ...MY ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS CAME ON AND WHEN I WAS TRAVELING IN A CONGESTED AREA THE VEHICLE JUST STARTED COMING TO AN EXTREME STOP WITHOUT MY CONTROL OR EVEN APPLYING THE BRAKES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. THE CONTACT PLACED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION AND THEN BACK TO OFF TO FINALLY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION, THE ENGINE FAILED TO TURN OVER, HOWEVER, ALL THE ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED TO RUN. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE BATTERY TO SHUT DOWN THE ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
ESP/BAS, ABS AND SKIDDING VEHICLE ICON LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER! THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE WE HAD ON OUR 2007 JEEP WRANGLER, WHICH I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA, WHICH ISSUED A RECALL ON OUR JEEP. I BOUGHT THIS USED VEHICLE 2 YEARS AGO. IT CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL ON THE GAS TANK. THE WAY THE DEALERSHIP "FIXES" THIS RECALL IS TO INSTALL A TRAILER HITCH, WHICH IS LAUGHABLE, AT BEST. THE TESTING AGENCIES HAVE PROVEN THAT A TRAILER HITCH IS ONLY MINIMALLY EFFECT UP TO 25 MPH AND NOT EFFECTIVE AT GREATER SPEEDS. I REQUESTED THE DEALERSHIP "WORK WITH ME" SO THAT I COULD BUY A SAFER VEHICLE FROM THEM. THEY ARE ONLY WILLING TO OFFER ME THE SAME TRADE-IN AMOUNT AS IF I WERE TRADING VEHICLE SOLELY BECAUSE I WANT A NEW VEHICLE. I WOULD KEEP THIS VEHICLE, IF IT WERE SAFE. I'VE CONTACTED METAL MANUFACTURING BUSINESSES AND REQUESTED THAT THEY BUILD ME A SAFE, STRONG GAS TANK AND BUMPER TO REPLACE THAT WHICH IS CURRENTLY IN THE VEHICLE. I AM WILLING TO PAY THE PRICE TO MAKE THIS VEHICLE SAFE. THE MANUFACTURING FACILITIES HAVE REFUSED TO BUILD ANY PARTS FOR ME BECAUSE THE LIABILITY, AFTER AN ACCIDENT, WOULD REVERT TO THEM RATHER THAN THE BURDEN BEING ON JEEP.
