I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2008 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT 4X4. FOR THE FIRST COUPLE MONTHS, I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY, EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK, NO MATTER WHICH STATION OR BRAND OF GASOLINE, THE FUEL TANK OVERFILLS AND SPITS GAS OUT. THE PUMP WILL CLICK OFF, BUT IT IS CLICKING OFF TOO LATE AND GAS IS SPILLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, ONTO ME, AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A MAJOR HEALTH ISSUE TO HAVE GASOLINE ON MY SKIN, CLOTHES, AND TO BE BREATHING IN THE TOXIC FUMES. ADDITIONALLY, THIS IS A MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE, AS GAS IS SPILLING OUT ONTO THE GROUND. FINALLY, THIS COULD QUICKLY BECOME VERY DANGEROUS. IT ALSO APPEARS, BASED ON SOME BASIC INTERNET RESEARCH, THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY THESE JEEP LIBERTY MODELS. I'M A BIT PERPLEXED WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ISSUED ON THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CRACKED AND SEPARATED FROM THE DOOR PANEL. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR COULD ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,200.
MANUAL TRANSMISSION POPPED OUT OF FIRST GEAR INTO NEUTRAL SO VIOLENTLY THAT IT FELT AS IF I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED. JEEP DEALERSHIP REPLACED FIRST AND SECOND GEAR SYNCHRO ON JANUARY 25, 2013. BY MAY 2013 THE PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY AND BY AUGUST ROUTINELY. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPAIR ON AUGUST 15, 2013 AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE A WEEK AND CLAIMING THEY COULDN'T "REPLICATE THE PROBLEM." THEREAFTER, GEAR POPPING INCREASED TO THE POINT THAT I WAS UNABLE TO SAFELY TURN LEFT TURN AGAINST TRAFFIC OR MOVE FORWARD WHEN STOPPED ON AN INCLINE. ON DECEMBER 23, 2013, I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH DURING WHICH TIME IT WAS DRIVEN 13 MILES AND A "COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC" PERFORMED, BUT ONCE AGAIN THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO "REPLICATE." ON JANUARY 21, 2014, I PICKED IT UP ONLY TO HAVE IT VIOLENTLY POP OUT OF FIRST GEAR JUST TWO MILES FROM DEALERSHIP. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE 23RD AND EVEN MORE VIOLENTLY THE AFTERNOON OF THE 24TH. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON JANUARY 24, 2014 VIA AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC (I-25 IN DENVER, CO) THE CLUTCH COMPLETELY MALFUNCTIONED LEAVING MY HUSBAND UNABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO ANY GEAR WHATSOEVER. AFTER SLAMMING IN 2ND GEAR WITH BRUTE FORCE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD AT ALL FORCING HIM TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. AT THE SHOULDER, HE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO PLACE INTO FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE SIMPLY ROLLED BACKWARDS WITH NO ABILITY TO MOVE FORWARD AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP THIS EVENING (JANUARY 24, 2014) FOR REPAIR. CHRYSLER ISSUED A REVISED SERVICE BULLETIN # 21-001-10 IN APRIL 2010 CALLING FOR REPLACEMENT OF FIRST AND SECOND SYNCHRO; HOWEVER, I AM EXPERIENCING INCREASING PROBLEMS DESPITE THAT VERY REPAIR IN JANUARY 2013. THIS VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY OPERATED. *TR
I PURCHASED MY JEEP FROM A PRIVATE OWNER BACK IN 10/2013. I THOUGHT I WROTE A COMPLAINT OUT BUT I CAN NOT FIND IT HERE. I HAVE A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY WITH A ROLL BACK TOP. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY GRANDSON THE TOP BLEW BACK AND BROKE THE CLIP BROKE WHEN IT FLEW BACK.. TO FIX, IT WILL COST 2,000.00 TO 2,500 DOLLARS . IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND CHRYSLER WOULD NOT HELP ME IN ANY WAY I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECT AND A LOCAL DEALER. I DID NOT THINK IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO BEING THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE A ROOF SHE BE ABLE TO BLOW OFF YOUR VEHICLE. I COULD HAVE BEEN ON A HIGHWAY DRIVING 50 OR 60 MILES PER HOUR AND THAT ROOF COULD HAVE BLOWN TOTALLY OFF MY JEEP AND REALLY CAUSED A PROBLEM. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.AS FAR AS LOOK AT IT THIS IT IS A HUGE DEFECT. . I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CONVERTIBLE CARS AND NEVER HAD THE ROOF BLOW BACK. PLUS THE NOISE FACTOR IS JUST AWFUL. YOU CANNOT EVEN HEAR SOMEONE SPEAK WITH THE TOP CLOSED. THE WIND IS JUST AWFUL THERE DESIGN ON THIS ROOF IS DANGEROUS AND JUST PLAIN AWFUL!!
WHEN FILING THE TANK, THE GAS PUMP WILL SHUT OFF AS THE TANK FILLS BUT THEN THE TANK OVER FLOWS WITH GAS AND SPILLS OUT EVERYWHERE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME THE TANK IS COMPLETELY FILLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING, GASOLINE SPRAYED OUT AND ONTO THE CONTACT'S CLOTHING. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE CONTACT WAS REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
FUEL BURPS OUT AFTER GAS PUMP CLICKS OFF. *TR
WHENEVER I FILL THE GAS TANK THE GAS PUMP CLICKS OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, BUT GAS SURGES UP THE SPOUT AND DUMPS ON THE GROUND. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TYPE OF GAS (PREMIUM OR REGULAR, OR ETHANOL OR NO ETHANOL) OR THE SETTING ON THE PUMP HANDLE (FAST OR SLOW). THIS IS A FIRE, EXPLOSION RISK AS WELL AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. I REALLY DON'T EXPECT YOU TO DO ANYTHING UNTIL AFTER PEOPLE ARE HURT OR KILLED, BUT WHEN THAT HAPPENS I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SAY "YOU KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM, AND DIDN'T CARE". *TR
JEEP LIBERTY SPURTS FUEL WHEN FILLING UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. AUTO SHUTOFF ON FUEL PUMP/NOZZLE SHUTS OFF THEN A LARGE QUANTITY OF FUEL SPURTS OUT OF TANK ALL OVER SIDE OF CAR AND GROUND. THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL AND HUMAN SAFETY HAZARD. NOW WHEN FILLING UP, I STEP AWAY FROM THE CAR AND LET THE SPURTING FINISH. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN I DON'T SET PUMP/NOZZLE TO AUTO SHUT OFF, BUT WHEN I DO THAT, I GET FUEL ALL OVER MY HANDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, GASOLINE WOULD SPEW BACK OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,407.
WHEN FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS, THE GAS SHOOTS OUT OF THE TANK WHEN REMOVING THE NOZZLE, SPRAYING ALL OVER THE CAR, MYSELF AND THE GROUND. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE PUMP AT THE GAS STATION BUT IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A PROBLEM WITH THE VALVE IN THE TANK, WHICH CANNOT BE FIXED UNLESS YOU REPLACE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK AT THE COST OF $800. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE JEEP UP WITH GAS, NO MATTER IF THE PUMP HANDLE IS LOCKED OR I'M MANUALLY PUMPING, IT WILL SPEW GAS OUT ALL OVER. THIS GETS ON ME, ALL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND ASKED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE LADY IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOKED MY VIN UP AND SAID NO, THERE WAS NO KNOWN PROBLEM. SHE SAID I COULD BRING THE JEEP IN AND LET THEM LOOK AT IT. OF COURSE, THIS WILL COST ME $85 FOR A DIAGNOSTICS TEST. THIS GAS SPEWING ALL OVER HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND AT DIFFERENT STATIONS. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A KNOWN PROBLEM. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FIND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE THEY WAKE UP SOON. *TR
WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL, A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE TANK BEFORE THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM UNTIL RECENTLY, BUT NOW IT HAS HAPPENED THE LAST THREE FILLUPS AT THREE DIFFERENT PUMPS. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 1 IN 3 TIMES I FILL THE GAS TANK THE AUTO SHUTOFF FAILS AND SPEWS GAS OUT ONTO THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND (APPROX 2 CUPS). I WAS TOLD BY JEEP THAT THE GAS TANK MUST BE REPLACED DUE TO THE FAILURE OF AN INTERNAL SENSOR AT A COST OF $600. AFTER A BRIEF ON-LINE INVESTIGATION I NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY AT LEAST SCORES OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS. THIS IS MORE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE DUE TO DISCHARGE OF A FLAMMABLE LIQUID. IN MY 40 PLUS YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND THEREFORE BELIEVE IT TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT ISSUE. THIS OCCURS AT VARIED GAS STATIONS AND THEREFORE IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH FAULTY EQUIPMENT AT THE STATIONS. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY JUST AS THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ENGAGES THE GAS COMES OUT OF THE FILL PIPE AND DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE I FILL UP THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS. I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT I SEE THERE ARE OTHERS. IN MY OPINION I FEEL THAT JEEP SHOULD CHECK THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT COST TO THE OWNERS AS A GESTURE OF GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS. MY JEEP WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2012 AS A PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FROM A JEEP DEALERSHIP. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL THE FUEL TANK IT SPEWS GAS ALL OVER THE PLACE. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. *TR
EVERY TIME WE FILL THE GAS TANK, THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS. *TR
WHEN I PUMP GAS THE SYSTEM DOES NOT STOP, THE GAS CONTINUES TO PUMP ONCE THE TANK IS FULL. GAS RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY MYSELF THIS NEEDS BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE, AN ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, THE ODOMETER GAUGE WOULD NOT DISPLAY A MILEAGE READING. THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW ALSO BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER DISPENSING FUEL INTO THE FUEL TANK, GASOLINE FUEL WOULD SPRAY OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND ONTO THE CONTACT'S CLOTHING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT EITHER THE FILLER NECK OR THE FUEL TANK WOULD POSSIBLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE RE-FUELING AT A GAS STATION, ONCE THE GAS PUMP STOPPED, FUEL EXPLODED OUT OF THE JEEP LIBERTY'S FUEL TANK DRENCHING MY LEGS AND THE JEEP WITH GASOLINE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!! THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I REFILLED THE TANK - EVEN IF I STOPPED THE FUEL FLOW WELL BEFORE THE GAS TANK WAS FULL. *TR
ON THE ABOVE MENTIONED DATE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM RUNNING ERRANDS AND WHILE DOING SO I HAD MY SUNROOF OPEN. WHILE I WAS DRIVING I DECIDED TO CLOSE MY SUNROOF AND WHEN I DID SO IT MADE A STRANGE SOUND WHILE CLOSING. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE SUNROOF HAD NOT CLOSED PROPERLY AND WAS STILL PARTIALLY OPEN. I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AGENCY WHO SUGGESTED I BRING MY VEHICLE TO ONE OF THEIR GARAGES TO BE INSPECTED. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS INDEED NOT COVERED UNDER MY INSURANCE PLAN. I WAS REFEREED TO YOU FOR POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE. *TR
SEPT. 8, 2012 I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM, AND HAVE HAD ALL MAINTENANCE WORK COMPLETED BY, FOR ROUTINE FACTORY MAINTENANCE AND AN OIL CHANGE. I TOLD THEM I WAS LEAVING FOR AN EXTENDED ROAD TRIP AND REQUESTED THEY LOOK EVERYTHING OVER TO SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE ANY SAFETY ISSUES. ON SEPT. 17, 2012 WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, I ACCELERATED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK. I DO NOT HAVE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE FLOOR MATS. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ON THE ROAD TRIP. I RETURNED HOME SEPT. 19, 2012 AND FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS THE ACCELERATOR STUCK INTERMITTENTLY, WITH NO COMMON UNDERLYING CAUSE. OCT. 2, 2012, WHILE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AT A HIGH RPM AND I NEARLY CRASHED. I CONTACTED THE SAME DEALERSHIP, WHO ORIGINALLY WANTED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE ALMOST A WEEK LATER EVEN AFTER I EXPLAINED HOW SERIOUS THE ISSUE WAS. I MANAGED TO TALK THEM INTO LOOKING AT THE JEEP ON OCT 3, 2012 AND THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ACCELERATOR STICKING ON THEIR FIRST TRY. THEY CONTACTED ME LATER IN THE DAY TO TELL ME IT WOULD BE $385 TO FIX AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. I CONTACTED THE WARRANTY ADMINISTRATORS WHO ALSO SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED AS THE ACCELERATOR IS CONSIDERED "AN ACCESSORY". I TRIED TO GET SOME ASSISTANCE THROUGH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE ASSISTANCE TO NO AVAIL. NOW THE ISSUE HAS BECOME SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS WORSE NOW THAN BEFORE. I'D LIKE TO RECEIVE SOME ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE AND/OR FIND OUT WHAT TRULY CONSTITUTES A VEHICLE ACCESSORY, AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEEMS TO BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE'S OPERATION, NOT AN "ACCESSORY" LIKE A STEREO OR LUGGAGE RACK. HELP? *TR
THE FUEL OVERFLOWS WHEN FILLING TANK WHICH CAUSES A VAST AMOUNT OF FUEL TO SPILL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND....THIS IS A GREAT SAFETY HAZARD AND IS CLEARLY A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THESE JEEPS. MADE PHONE CALLS TO DEALER AND CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. CHRYSLER SAID TO BRING TO A DEALER AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED...IF DEALER FEELS IT'S AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ON A RECALL THEN CALL CHRYSLER BACK AND THEY MAY BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING TO COVER THE SERVICE. *TR
SKY SLIDER ROOF WHICH IS AN OPTION FOR THIS VEHICLE HAS BROKEN LOOSE FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS IS THE THIRD FAILURE OF THIS CONVERTIBLE TOP FEATURE. THE TOP SLIDES BACKWARD ELECTRICALLY ON METAL TRACKS AND IS PULLED BACKWARDS USING CABLES. THE FIRST FAILURE OF THE ROOF WAS IN 2010. AT THAT TIME THE ROOF WOULD NOT CLOSE LEAVING IT OPEN AND DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER MFG WARRANTY AND THE ENTIRE CABLE AND TRACK WAS REPLACED. THE SECOND IDENTICAL PROBLEM OCCURRED IN FEBRUARY 2011 RESULTING IN REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF CABLES AND TRACK. MOST RECENTLY, THE CABLES HAVE AGAIN BROKEN LEAVING THE TOP UNABLE TO CLOSE, ONLY THIS TIME, THE COMPONENTS HAVE BROKEN AND WHILE DRIVING THE TOP CAME LOOSE AND FLEW OPEN CAUSING MORE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED FOR THIS IDENTICAL ISSUE IS AWARE OF THE ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE SKY SLIDER. CHRYSLER/JEEP HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED, HOWEVER, DESPITE THE PROBLEM BEING WELL-KNOWN THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING REPAIR. *TR
WHEN VEHICLE IS OR IS NOT IN MOTION THE VEHICLES LIGHTS,HORN,TURN SIGNALS,INSTRUMENT GAUGES,AND WINDSHIELD WIPER BEGIN TO MALFUNCTION AND OPERATE ON ITS OWN SQUIRTING ALL THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUIDS,HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING,HORN HONKING ON IT'S OWN AND INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES FLICKER AND FLASHING,UNTIL EITHER BATTERY DIES OR BATTERY BECOMES DISCONNECTED. *TR

I OWN A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THAT HAS A SKY SLIDER. I HAD OPENED THE SLIDER APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES (NOT EXAGGERATING) AND ON THE FOURTH TIME, WHEN TRYING TO SHUT IT BACK IT "BROKE". THE SLIDER WENT OFF TRACK AND I HAD TO MANUALLY CLOSE IT. THIS WAS ALL WHILE SITTING IN MY GARAGE! ONCE I TOOK OFF THE SLIDER WOULD WHIP IN THE WIND AND I WAS SO AFRAID IT WOULD RIP OFF I LITERALLY WAS GOING 40MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. I HAD IT FIXED FOR $2500. I HAVE NEVER OPENED IT AGAIN FOR FEAR THAT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. NOW GOING DOWN THE ROAD FROM 50MPH ON, I CAN'T EVEN HOLD A CONVERSATION IT IS SO NOISY. IF I GET BEHIND SEMI-TRUCKS THE SLIDER STARTS TO FLAP DUE TO THE FRONT OF IT STARTING TO "PEEL" BACK. I UNDERSTAND THEY HAVE QUIT MAKING THIS MODEL AND I UNDERSTAND WHY! I STRONGLY URGE A RECALL ON THIS AS MANY OF US ARE OUT OF MONEY FROM FIXING IT AND I CAN'T EVEN SELL IT. NO ONE WANTS IT BECAUSE OF THE SLIDER. THE SKYSLIDER ROOF ON MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY IS BROKEN AND HAS BEEN FOR YEARS. I HAD IT FIXED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT IT BROKE SEVERAL MONTHS LATER AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. NOW I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $4000.00 TO REPAIR IT AGAIN. IT CAME OFF THE TRACKS WHILE DRIVING AND STARTED FLAPPING IN THE AIR. WATER LEAKS IN THE CAR EVEN WHEN THE ROOF WORKED. THE ROOF COMES OFF THE TRACKS AND THEN BREAKS THE CABLE THAT RUNS IT. YOU CAN BE STATIONARY OR MOVING. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS GO OUT FREQUENTLY, AND DISABLES YOUR 4 WHEEL DRIVE. SO, IF A SENSOR GOES OUT WHILE YOU ARE OFF ROADING, YOU ARE STUCK..... THATS REALLY NOT COOL IF YOU ARE IN A SECLUDED PLACE WITH NO ONE AROUND TO HELP AND ZERO CELL SERVICE. JUST SOME REALLY DUMB ENGINEERING, AND TOTALLY UNSAFE.

THE SKYSLIDER ROOF SYSTEM HAS FAILED. THE ROOF OPENED AS NORMAL BUT FAILED TO CLOSE WHEN BUTTON WAS CLOSED. ON INVESTIGATION OF THE ROOF TOP I FOUND THE SKY SLIDER ROOF HAD COME OFF THE TRACK. WHEN I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE THE ROOF AT A COST OF 1500.00. I TOOK THE CAR HOME AND WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY PULL THE ROOF BACK INTO PLACE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT WITH THE ROOF SYSTEMS AS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT WIND NOISE AND THE SKYSLIDER FAILING AND CHRYSLER JEEP IGNORING THE PROBLEM. *TR

AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYED ILLUMINATED. THIS IS THE SAME INCIDENT REPORTED IN THE 2012 JEEP LIBERTY WHICH IS BEING INVESTIGATED. DEALER SAID IT "MIGHT " BE HARNESS BUT BASED ON LATEST REPORT READ ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME. REMEDY THE ISSUE BY HAVING THE CONTROLLER REPLACED. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS YET.

THE SKYLINER ROOF ON OUR 2008 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED 4X4 IS VERY NOISY AT DRIVING SPEEDS OR ON WINDY DAYS AND AS MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THIS OPTION HAVE STATED THE ROOF DOES NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY, I HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK IT BACK INTO THE CLOSED POSITION. IT DOESN'T OPEN PROPERLY EITHER THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WITH THE TRACK AND CABLE SYSTEM. IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT BLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING. WITH THIS BEING SUCH A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THIS OPTION THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL. MAYBE HEAVIER DUTY COMPONENTS AND CABLE COULD BE A SUFFICIENT FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM CHRYSLER REGARDING A RECALL STATING THAT "THE TRANSFER CASE HEAT SHIELD MAY DROP DOWN AND RUB ON THE DRIVE SHAFT, WEAKENING IT AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO BREAK.". CHRYSLER'S RECALL LETTER FAILS TO MENTION WHAT IS OUTLINED IN THE NHTSA LETTER: THE FIRST POTENTIAL CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT RESULTING FROM THE ABOVE REFERENCED DEFECT: "IF THE DRIVE SHAFT BREAKS, A SECTION OF IT CAN STRIKE THE TRANSFER CASE TUNNEL WITH ENOUGH FORCE THAT THE AIRBAG COMPUTER WILL BELIEVE THE VEHICLE IS IN A CRASH AND THUS DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS.". I LODGED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER THAT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO PROVIDE 2008 JEEP LIBERTY OWNERS WITH ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION WHILE THEY "FIX" THE "PROBLEM". CUSTOMERS NEED TO BE INFORMED ABOUT ALL THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES AND CHRYSLER ONLY MENTIONS THIS THE TRANSFER CASE HEAT SHIELD MAY DROP DOWN AND RUB ON THE DRIVE SHAFT, WEAKENING IT AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO BREAK. IN ADDITION, I SPOKE TO CHRYSLERS "RECALL HELP DESK" ABOUT WHETHER I SHOULD BE DRIVING MY JEEP OR NOT AND I WAS TOLD "YOU'VE BEEN DRIVING YOUR CAR FOR 53,000 MILES AND NOTHINGS HAPPENED SO PROBABLY NOTHING WILL HAPPEN BUT LET US KNOW IF IT DOES." HE SAID THAT THE "HEAD HONCHOS" WERE MEETING ABOUT THE FIX AS WE SPOKE. I ASKED HIM TO LET THE CEO KNOW THAT IF THEY REALLY CARED FOR CUSTOMER SAFETY THEY WOULD GET US RENTAL CARS AND THAT I WOULD TAKE THE CHEAPEST RENTAL ON THE MARKET. WOULD THE CEO OF CHRYSLER CONTINUE TO DRIVE A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY UNTIL THE FIX?? WOULD HE HAVE HIS SON, DAUGHTER OR WIFE DRIVE ONE IN ITS PRESENT CONDITION? . 2008 JEEP LIBERTY WAS BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP DUE TO MANUFACTURING WEAKNESS WITH THE SKY SLIDER. ONE PRESS OF THE CLOSE BUTTON AND THE WHOLE BACK PORTION OF THE SKY SLIDER MISALIGNED AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE SERVICE REP. STATED THAT THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY LINE WAS DEFAULTED AND WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. MEANWHILE, DUE TO THIS MANUFACTURING WEAKNESS, MY JEEP WAS NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO THE SKY SLIDER SLIDING FORWARD AND BACKWARD SUDDENLY AND LOUDLY EVERY TIME THE JEEP WAS DRIVEN OVER 35MPH. THE PROCESS IN GETTING THE JEEP REPAIRED HAS TAKEN OVER 3 WEEKS AND THE REPAIRS ARE STILL NOT COMPLETED AT THE TIME THIS COMPLIANT WAS SUBMITTED. THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION IS ASSISTING WITH THE REPAIRS, HOWEVER AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PRODUCT. *TR
