EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS, MY VEHICLE WILL STALL AND/OR KILL. STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP
VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF AND STALL AFTER REFUELING. HAPPENS SHORTLY AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES: SOMETIMES WILL STALL AT THE GAS STATION, SOMETIMES WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE STATION, OR SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. ALWAYS AFTER REFUELING.
AFTER EVERYTIME I FILL THE FUEL TANK FULL OF GASOLINE. AFTER DRIVING CAR FROM STATION, APPROXIMATELY .25 MILE TO 1 MILE AWAY. THE ENGINE WILL BUCK/SHUTTER AND STALL WHILE IN MOTION AT APPROXIMATELY 10-25 MILES PER HOUR. THE ENGINE EXPERIENCES EXTREME LOSS OF POWER WITH VIOLENT BURSTS OF POWER. THESE INCIDENTS LAST TEN SECONDS IN DURATION. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON TO HIGHWAY, WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC, THIS CAN CAUSE QUITE A BIT OF STRESS. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AFTER THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED FULL.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP THE TANK, IT RUNS A VERY SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE GAS STATION AND STARTS TO BUCK AND JOLT LIKE IT WANTS TO SHUT OFF. WHEN THE CAR STALLS OUT, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND THE BRAKES LOSE POWER. VERY DANGEROUS!
I HAVE OWNED MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT SINCE JUNE 2017. ABOUT 3 MONTHS INTO OWNING IT I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT WILL STALL DIRECTLY AFTER I FILL MY GAS TANK. AFTER I LEAVE THE GAS STATION, I NOTICE THAT THE JEEP STARTS TO RATTLE AND SLOW DOWN, AND WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND I AM UNABLE TO TURN AND ACCELERATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES SO FAR, AND THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE (12/11/17) IT STALLED 3 TIMES WITHIN 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT WARN ME OF THIS ON THE DASH, MAKING THIS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF I WERE TO BE ON A HIGHWAY OR BUSY INTERSECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY JEEP PATRIOT IS STALLING AFTER FUELING. IT SEEMS TO LOSE POWER & MAY SPUTTER ALSO BEFORE STALLING. I CAN ALSO SMELL A STRONG FUEL OR CHEMICAL SMELL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IT HAS BECOME A DANGEROUS PROBLEM SEEING AS HOW IT OCCURS AFTER FUELING AND I HAVE TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATIONS. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LARGE INTERSECTIONS WHERE I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES OR CAUSED AN ACCIDENT FOR OTHER MOTORISTS TRYING TO AVOID MY STALLED VEHICLE. SO FAR, MY JEEP WILL START AFTER STALLING SO I CAN CONTINUE ON MY WAY. IT IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION WHEN IT HAPPENS AND THE FEAR OF AN ACCIDENT IS PROFOUND.
SHORTLY AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, AFTER BEGINNING TO DRIVE, THE CAR STALLS (LOCKING THE POWER STEERING). VERY DANGEROUS! THIS HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY AFTER FILLING THE TANK, AND WITHIN A MILE OF LEAVING THE GAS STATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE MADE A CLUNKING NOISE EACH TIME A TURN WAS MADE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE CROSS MEMBER THAT HELD THE FRAME TOGETHER WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
MUCH AS WE DISCOVERED WITH OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM THE ISSUE IS THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FUELED UP EVEN IF YOU STOP WHEN THE GAS DISPENSER CLICKS OFF THE CAR INEVITABLY STALLS AND SHUTS OFF JUST A FEW MINUTES AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED AND IN MOTION. THE STALLING CAN OCCUR WHEN YOU GET OUT INTO TRAFFIC, ON HIGHWAY, CITY STREET WHICH CAN BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED 20 TIMES, AT LEAST, IN OUR 2007 JEEP PATRIOT SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN OCTOBER 2017. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE IN THE 2007 JEEP PATRIOTS AND APPARENTLY HAS TO DO WITH THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WHICH IN ORDER TO FIX, THE ENTIRE GAS TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED.
AFTER REFUELING MY CAR, THE ENGINE WILL STUTTER OR STALL AT THE FIRST STOP OR AT LEAVING THE GAS STATION IF THE VEHICLE IS GOING LESS THAN 40 MILES PER HOURS. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON MORE THAN 10 OCCASIONS, WITH THE LAST ONE BEGINNING AT THE STOPLIGHT BEFORE TURNING ON TO THE FREEWAY. THIS IS A VERY STRESSFUL SITUATION AS IT COULD EASILY CAUSE A CRASH DUE TO THE ENGINE FAILING UNEXPECTEDLY.
I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC. THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE REAR SUB FRAME WAS ROTTED. THERE IS A HUGE HOLE FROM THE RUST. MY CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND WELL MAINTAINED SO THIS DID NOT SEEM LOGICAL FROM EVERYDAY WEAR AND TEAR.
THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR EVEN AFTER TRYING SEVERAL DIFFERENT EXPENSIVE CORRECTIVE REPAIRS.AFTER REFUELING MY JEEP PATRIOT, IT STALLS BUCKS AND JERKS. I START IT UP, AND UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AND PULL AWAY FROM PUMPS OR OUT INTO TRAFFIC IT BEGINS TO SPUTTER BUCK AND STALL. IT IS VERY DANGEROUSE ESECIALLY WHEN PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION INTO TRAFFIC WHICH HAS CAUSED SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS OF MY BEING HIT BECAUSE IT HAS STALLED IN INTERSECTIONS AND ON THE HIGHWAY. I RELACED THE O2 SENSOR AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE SITUATION. I USED HIGHER OCTANE FUEL AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE SITUATION. I USED FUEL TREATMENT PURCHASED FROM DEALERSHIP UPON THEIR ADVISEMENT AFTER REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER AND HAVING THE FUEL SYSTEM SERVICED AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE SITUATION.
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK ENGINE WILL STALL
CAR STALLS AFTER REFILL AND RUNS ROUGH
VEHICLE STALLS AFTER REFUELING. EACH TIME THAT THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY REFUELED, BUT NOT TOPPED OFF, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS OF DRIVING, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN TURNING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER STEERING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. RESEARCH ONLINE HAS SHOWN MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE ISSUE REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK IN ORDER TO BE RESOLVED.
SHORTLY AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK OF MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT (49XXX MILES) I WAS COMING TO A 4 WAY INTERSECTION (ONLY MY SIDE AND THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION HAS STOP SIGNS). AS I WAS PULLING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION MY JEEP PATRIOT STALLED AND I LOST MY POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I WAS ALMOST STRUCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION FROM MY ORIENTATION OF THE INTERSECTION. I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO NO AVAIL. IT WOULD START AND THEN IMMEDIATELY STALL AGAIN. AFTER ALMOST BEING STRUCK 5-6 TIMES AND AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF BEING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION I MANAGED TO START THE VEHICLE UP AND DRIVE IT HOME BY DRIVING ABOUT 15 MILES PER HOUR ON BACKROADS FOR THE REMAINING 2 MILES TO MY HOUSE. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET TO FIND THE PROBLEM I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AMONG MANY JEEP PATRIOT/COMPASS OWNERS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AS MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER (FIANCEE) COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IF NOT FOR SHEER LUCK.
AFTER DOING A FULL REFUEL OF THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE IN MOTION, LOOSING ALL ASSISTED STEERING AND BREAKING. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED ENGINE STALLED IN MID TRAFFIC AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME ON THE CITY. SECOND TIME I REACHED THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT STALLED THIS WAS EVEN MORE SCARY. VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER PUTTING IN PARK AND STALL AGAIN A COUPLE OF BLOCKS DOWN. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE TANK IS FILED TILL GAS STATION PUMP AUTO STOPS. IF I FILL 3/4 THEN NO STALLING OCCURS. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS. SOME CLAIM THAT IT IS RELATED TO LIQUID FUEL GOING INTO THE EVAP CANISTER AND THEN BEING SENT TO THE ENGINE WHEN FIECU EXPECTS FUEL VAPORS. THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE FATAL INJURIES IF ENGINE STALLS ON THE WRONG PLACE.
MY CHILDREN AND I WERE DRIVING 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY JEEP PATRIOT RANDOMLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING, THE THE VEHICLE GAVE NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE IT JUST STOP, THE CARS BEHIND US STARTED TO STEAM ON THEIR BRAKES RUNNING OFF THE ROAD, WE HAD TO DRIVE OFF THE SIDE OFF THE ROAD TO PREVENT GETTING HIT. IT'S WAS SO TERRIFYING . THE POLICE CAME AND WANTED TO GIVE US A TICKET FOR WRECK LESS OPERPERATION OF A VEHICLE AND THOUGH I WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SOMETHING. I BEGAN TO CRY. IT TOOK 10 MINUTES TO RESTART CAR. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE HOURS LATER WITH NO WARNING. WHEN WE GOT BACK FROM OUR TRIP WE TOOK IT TO FORD MARSHALL, NICK MAYER IN MAYFIELD OHIO . IT IS DOCUMENTED THERE NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THIS VEHICLE STALLS RANDOMLY AT HIGH SPEEDS BUT THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER COMES ON WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND IT IS NOT SENDING A CODE TO GIVE THEM A DIAGNOSIS , SO IF THEY DON'T HAVE A CODE , THEY CAN'T WARRANTY OUT THE PART TO FIX IT FOR ME TO FIX THE ISSUE. SO THEN THEY SEND ME HOME EVERYTHIME AND PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER AGAIN. TODAY MY CAR STALLED AGAIN RIGHT IN FRONT OF A POLICE CAR. I JUST SAT THERE AND CRIED
MY DAUGHTER'S JEEP HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO THE RUST AND HOLES IN THE JEEP'S CROSSMEMBERS. THE GAVE ME AS REFERENCE X58. SHE NEEDS THEM REPLACED AS THERE ARE LARGE HOLES IN THEM, BUT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HER IF THEY COULDN'T GET IT OFF THEY WOULD HAVE TO CUT OTHER PARTS AND SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE PARTS AND LABOR (APPROXIMATELY $400) WHICH THE DEALERSHIP SAID IS TYPICAL. I'VE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AT JEEP AND THEY SAID SHE WOULD FIRST HAVE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE AND THEN IF THERE WAS A CHARGE THEY WOULD "CONSIDER" HELPING. SO SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR FIRST. THIS HARDLY SEEMS RIGHT. IS THERE ANY RECOURSE?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, AND THE SHIFTER LOCKED UP WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAITED APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. THE MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE BUCKING AND EVEN STALLING AFTER A FULL TANK FILL UP. IT USUALLY BUCKLES WHEN I AM MOVING AND STALLS IF I AM STATIONARY. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS THREADS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD MANY TIMES. LUCKILY I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, BUT IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME IF IT CONTINUES. IT SHOULD NOT MATTER IF THIS ONLY HAPPENS TO A HUNDRED PEOPLE OR THOUSANDS. LIVES ARE LIVES AND THEY SHOULD BE PROTECTED! PLEASE HELP US ALL ENCOUNTERING THIS PROBLEM. THE COST IS VERY HIGH TO REPLACE A WHOLE TANK AND MANY OF US CAN NOT AFFORD IT. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT IS OBVIOUSLY A COMMON PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP US STAY SAFE!
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK THE CAR REPEATEDLY STALLS. IT IS NOT BEING OVER-FILLED. NOT HUMAN ERROR. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. STALLS IN TRAFFIC - NO WARNING. JUST QUITS. REPEATEDLY. NUMEROUS TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND LOTS OF MONEY SPENT AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. COMPLAINED TO CHRYSLER WHO RECOMMENDED WE TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER. WE DID. THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED. MECHANICS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. NHTSA SITE DOCUMENTS 35 REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. 16 REPORTS IN 2016. NUMEROUS ALSO IN THE 2008 JEEP. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO WHY NO RECALL RECOMMENDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER WAS SEVERELY CORRODED WITH HOLES. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE CROSS MEMBER DETACHED. THE ENTIRE FRAME CROSS MEMBER WAS CRACKED BEHIND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CROSS MEMBER WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 243,765.
Engine stalls several minutes after filling up the gas tank. Occurs on every fill up with gas. The stalling stops after being driving a mile to more.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONTAL UNDER CARRIAGE AND CROSS MEMBER HAD CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
ANOTHER VTEC TRANSMISSION WENT OUT...THESE TRANSMISSION ARE JUNK I HAVE HAD 6 DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND FROM WHAT HAVE READ ON LINE DO NOT BUY A CAR WITH THIS TRANSMISSION IN IT BECAUSE THEY WILL GO OUT !!!! I'M OUT ANOTHER AT LEST $4000.00
FAULTY ROLLOVER VALVE GAD DOESN'T ENTER AT FULL CAPACITY WHEN FUELING
I'M EXPERIENCING WHAT I'VE FOUND TO BE A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH A VAPOR-LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED IN THE GAS TANK OF MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. AFTER FUELING, MOMENTS AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE, THE CAR WILL STALL AND SHUT OFF. IT WILL IMMEDIATELY RE-START AND RUN AGAIN BUT IS PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEED TO SHUT OFF AT EVERY STOP (I.E. AT AN INTERSECTION OR WHILE EXITING THE GAS STATION) FOR THE NEXT FEW MINUTES. IT ALSO LEADS TO HESITATIONS OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING AT FULL SPEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THE LAST FOUR TIMES I'VE FILLED MY GAS TANK. ON THE MOST RECENT OCCASION, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE IN AN INTERSECTION, AS I STARTED TO MAKE A LEFT-HAND TURN. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, AND I HAD TO THROW IT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE CAR WHILE STALLED IN A LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I'M VERY FORTUNATE THE ONCOMING VEHICLE WAS PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION AND STOPPED TO ALLOW ME TO EXIT THE INTERSECTION. THIS ISSUE ONLY OCCURS AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, WHEN THE VAPOR CANISTER COMPONENT THAT THE VALVE IS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT BECOMES FLOODED WITH LIQUID FUEL DURING THE FILL. WHEN THIS COMPONENT PURGES ITS CONTENTS, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS FLOODED WITH LIQUID FUEL, RATHER THAN VAPOR, CAUSING THE STALL. AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES (PRESUMABLY WHEN ALL OF THE LIQUID FUEL HAS BEEN PURGED FROM THE VAPOR CANISTER), NO MORE PROBLEMS ARE SEEN UNTIL THE TANK IS REFILLED. SOME INVESTIGATION HAS SHOWN THAT I'M FAR FROM THE ONLY PERSON TO EXPERIENCE THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. THE FAULTY VALVE IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GAS TANK, AND THE ISSUE CAN ONLY BE RESOLVED WITH A PROHIBITIVELY-EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE TANK. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A DOCUMENTED FLAW INHERENT IN SEVERAL VEHICLE MODELS IN THE CHRYSLER FAMILY, AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE ANYONE IS KILLED AS A RESULT.
AFTER FUELING WITH GAS, MY VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STALLED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE HAD I ALREADY BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS IS A DEFINITE ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND FIXED AS I SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. I GOT GAS AGAIN LAST WEEK WHERE AFTERWARDS MY JEEP STALLED ON MAIN STREET DURING LUNCH TRAFFIC. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE SCARED TO PUT GAS IN MY VEHICLE IN CASE IT DECIDES TO STALL IN ANOTHER DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT'S FRUSTRATING TO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCE DUE TO HAVING TO STOP FOR GAS MORE OFTEN. THE SCARIEST THING IS THE HUGE CHANCE OF IT STALLING COMPLETELY WITH NO POWER AND GETTING HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES BEHIND ME. THE IMPACT OF GETTING HIT COULD KILL PEOPLE DUE TO THE HARSH SUDDEN STOP. AFTER CONFERRING WITH SUPERVISOR AND MANAGER, THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO HAVE A NEW SEAT-BELT UNIT INSTALLED. THAT PART WOULD COST $300. PLUS INSTALL CHARGES. SHOULD WE HAVE TO PAY FOR A SAFETY ISSUE MALFUNCTION WHICH PROHIBITS USE OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THERE ARE ONLY 2 ADULTS IN THIS HOUSEHOLD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK AND THE FUEL GAGE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

THIS HAS BECOME AN ISSUE FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS AND IT IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE FIXED BY A DEALER.

I'VE FOUND INFORMATION THAT THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO A FAULTY VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK.

FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, THE CAR STALLS AFTER REFUELING AND ONLY AFTER REFUELING. ONCE FUEL IS PUT IN (AND NOT "TOPPED OFF" JUST REGULAR FILLING UP), THE CAR WILL START BUT WILL STALL SEVERAL TIMES IN THE FIRST FEW MILES DRIVEN. WHEN IT STALLS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND IT'S VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY. IN LOOKING AT JEEP FORUMS, IT SEEMS TO BE A PERVASIVE ISSUE WITH JEEP AND CHRYSLERS AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL/VAPOR VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK. THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL ON THIS. I'VE HAD A THE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL CANISTER BOTH REPLACED. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MOVING ONLY AFTER REFUELING. AFTER IT STALLS AND I RESTART 3-4 TIMES, IT RUNS FINE UNTIL I REFUEL AGAIN. AS FOR WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT LAST HAPPENED YESTERDAY (1/6/16), BUT IT HAPPENS EACH AND EVERY TIME I REFUEL.

THAT IS THE ONLY TIME IT DOES NOT STALL AFTER FILLING UP. I NEVER TOP OFF THE GAS TANK, AND I ALWAYS INSURE THE GAS CAP IS TIGHTENED. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IF STALLING IN AN INTERSECTION.
