CAR STALLS SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING. GENERALLY I DRIVE FOR ABOUT 60 SECONDS AT WHICH POINT IF I SLOW DOWN TOO MUCH IT STALLS OUT. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH MY CAR TAKING IN GASOLINE FOR THE PAST YEAR, IT WILL LET ME PUMP IN A LITTLE THEN THE PUMP WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF LIKE ITS FULL, BUT I HAVE ONLY PUMPED IN A HALF OF A GALLON. IT WILL DO THIS THE ENTIRE FILL UP, WHICH WILL END UP TAKING ME CLOSE TO 20 MINUTES FOR IT TO GET FULL. NOW RECENTLY OVER THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS, I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY CAR STALLING RIGHT AFTER I FILL UP MY TANK, I WILL PULL UP TO THE STOP LIGHT TO LEAVE THE GAS STATION AND IT WILL STALL. SO I HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT, SOMETIMES IT HAS DONE IT FOR THE FIRST SEVERAL STOPS, IT WILL STALL AGAIN WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT IS ALSO HAVING HESITATIONS WHILE DRIVING, ALMOST LIKE ITS STUTTERING, I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL MECHANICS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND NO ONE CAN PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. IM STARTING TO GET CONCERNED THAT ITS GOING TO DAMAGE OTHER PARTS OF MY CAR BECAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL, ABS, AND ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND PCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT BECAME ILL. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE EXHAUST BLOCK WAS LEAKING EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INDEPENDENTLY REPLACED THE EXHAUST BLOCK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000. ...UPDATED 02/19/16 *BF UPDATED 05/0918*JB *CN
SEVERE LEAKING OUT OF SUNROOF, CEILING, AND WINDSHIELD OF CAR.
ABOUT A YEAR AGO MY PATRIOT STARTED HAVING ISSUES AFTER I WOULD REFILL MY GAS TANK TO WHERE THE GAS PUMP TURNS OFF. THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND SHUT OFF 4 OR 5 TIMES AS I WAS LEAVING THE STATION. I HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT HAS ALSO SHUT OFF MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE IDLING WHEN I HAVEN'T FILLED THE TANK. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE PURGE VALVE SOLENOID AND ALTERNATOR AT MY COST THINKING THAT WOULD FIX MY PROBLEM BUT NOTHING HAS WORKED. THEY ALSO RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AT MY COST, BUT AFTER ALREADY POURING OVER $1000 INTO THE VEHICLE, I WAS HESITANT TO SPEND $1500 MORE. I HAVE BEEN AVOIDING THE PROBLEM BY ONLY PUTTING ABOUT 10 GALLONS OF FUEL MAXIMUM IN MY TANK. TWO WEEKS AGO THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD BANGING NOISE AND LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON THE DASH AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T GO OVER 20 MPH. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY ABOUT A MILE FROM ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS BAD. ANOTHER $800 FIX. I TOLD THIS DEALERSHIP OF THE OTHER PROBLEMS I WAS EXPERIENCING WITH THE CAR SHUTTING OFF AND THEY THOUGHT THIS MAY FIX MY PROBLEM. THEN ABOUT 5 DAYS LATER, UPON TRYING TO REFUEL MY VEHICLE, I WAS UNABLE TO PUT MORE THAN 1 GALLON OF GAS IN THE TANK. THE PUMP KEPT SHUTTING OFF AND GAS STARTED POURING BACK OUT OF THE TANK. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE ONLY TO FIND THERE ARE A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. OTHER JEEP OWNERS HAVE TRIED TO REPLACING THE EVAP CANISTER, ONLY TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN SEVERAL WEEKS LATER. THEN THEY END UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. THE FUEL TANK ISSUES ARE ISSUES THAT I THINK JEEP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GIVEN THE RATE OF OCCURRENCES FOR JEEP OWNERS.
FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEM POSTED ON THE JEEP PATRIOT FORUMS UNDER THIS LINK (HTTP://WWW.JEEPPATRIOT.COM/FORUM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=271689). HAPPENS 95% OF THE TIME WHERE THE ENGINE WILL STALL AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK. IT CAN HAPPEN WHILE SITTING STILL OR WHILE DRIVING. IF IT STALLS WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES GO OUT MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE JEEP. THE OBVIOUS CONCERN IS THAT IT COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF JUST "DON'T FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY" - THAT SEEMS LIKE A COP OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AFTER IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME - THEY KEPT IT FOR 2 DAYS, DRIVING IT ALL AROUND AND WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE IT (THIS WAS BEFORE I STUMBLED ACROSS THIS FORUM AND REALIZED IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER A GAS TANK FILL-UP). I HOPE THAT MY SUBMISSION AND OTHERS' LEAD TO A RECALL.
THE TPMS SENSOR NUT BROKE OFF THE SENSOR ITSELF. THIS LEFT A HOLE IN THE RIM WHERE THE SENSOR/STEM SHOULD BE SINCE THERE WAS NOTHING HOLDING IT ONCE THE TIRE STARTED LOSING AIR, RAPIDLY, IT FELL IN THE TIRE AND RUINED THE TIRE AND RESULTED IN A INSTANT FLAT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME ON A SECOND TIRE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO IN THE TWO AND A HALF YEARS I HAVE THIS VEHICLE. JEEP NEEDS TO DO A RECALL OR GET RID OF THE SO CALLED SAFETY PRECAUTION AND GO BACK TO THE BASICS OF A RUBBER STEAM AND NO SENSOR. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU HAVE ALMOST NO TIME TO SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO GET OFF THE ROAD BEFORE THE TIRE IS TOAST.
THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT SPORT WITH 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WAS PURCHASED IN MAY 2015. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I NOTICED THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY COME ON, DING AND GO OFF WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. THINKING IT WAS JUST A LOOSE CONNECTION, I WIGGLED AND JIGGLED EVERY WIRE AND CONNECTION THOUGHT TO BE RELATED TO THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TO NO AVAIL. ON AUGUST 18, 2015 I BROUGHT IT INTO A VERY TRUSTWORTHY INDEPENDENT SERVICE GARAGE SPECIALIZING IN AUTO ELECTRIC ISSUES. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED A BAD CLOCK SPRING WHICH WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG WAS ALSO BAD. CONSIDERING THE IMPORTANCE OF A FULLY FUNCTIONING AIRBAG SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE'S RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE AND LIGHT, ACCIDENT FREE USE THIS HAS HAD, I THINK THE DEFECTIVE (AND EXPENSIVE) PARTS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY. THESE SHOULD NOT BE FAILING LIKE THIS UNLESS THEY ARE DEFECTIVE OR POORLY DESIGNED.
THE LAST TWO TIMES I GOT GAS MY PATRIOT STALLED WHILE DRIVING. WHEN IT STALLS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS. VERY DANGEROUS I SEE ONLINE THAT IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND MANY PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THIS WITH OLDER PATRIOT VEHICLES. PLEASE RECALL THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INDEPENDENTLY DOING REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE SUB FRAME, BOTH ON THE FRONT AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
ENGINE CRADDLE/ FRAME RUSTED THRU. PROBLEM FOUND ON JEEP PATRIOTS A ND DODGE CALIPERS. BAD DESIGN BECAUSE AC DRAINS ONTO RUSTED OUT AREA, I AM A PA INSPECTION MECHANIC SO I KNOW THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. DANGER IS IF CROSSMEMBER BREAKS STEERIG CONTROL WILL BE LOST.
THE SUB FRAME IS RUSTED OUT DUE TO LOCATION OF A/C DRAIN. IF IT BREAKS STEERING CONTROL WILL BE LOST. I AM A RETIRED, CERTIFIED, MASTER MECANIC AND I AFFIRM THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURES PROBLEM ON ALL THE CARS BUILT ON THIS PLATFORM.
SUBFRAME IS RUSTED OUT DUE TO LOCATION OF A/C DRAIN. IF IT BREAKS STEERING CONTROL WILL BE LOST. THIS WAS FOUND DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION. 2007 AND EARLIER MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TONE RINGS ON THE REAR AXLE WERE DRY ROTTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. UPDATED 11/12/15*LJ *CN
TOOK MY JEEP IN FOR YEARLY INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE CRADLE FRAME WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THROUGH RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THE 2007 MODELS WERE GIVEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CONTACTED JEEP I WAS TOLD MY 2008 MODEL WAS NOT PART OF THAT, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I LIVE IN THE SNOW BELT OF NORTH WESTERN PA. AND HAVE NEVER HAD A RUST ISSUE LIKE THIS BEFORE. MECHANIC SAID I WAS LUCKY THAT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION DIDN'T FALL OUT WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD.
THE FRONT AND BACK CROSS MEMBERS ARE RUSTING. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE 2007 JEEP PATRIOTS AND COMPASSES WERE RECALLED FOR RECENTLY.
THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS RANDOMLY STOP WORKING WHILE IT IS RAINING OUT. THIS FIRST STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. SOMETIMES THEY ARE FINE FOR TWENTY MINUTES, OTHER TIMES IT IS 5 MINUTES. THEY WILL COMPLETELY STOP WORKING AND FOLD BACK DOWN, AS IF I HAVE TURNED THEM OFF. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO SEARS ONCE, AND SPENT TWO DAYS AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE IT. I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND RAINING FOR IT TO HAPPEN, MAYBE THE FORCE OF THE WIND OR ROAD IS THE CAUSE. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIGURE IT OUT AND THEY DO NOT HAVE THE TECHNICAL SKILL TO RECREATE IT, I WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE AND TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT HAPPENS .ALL THE COMPUTERS READ THAT THE WIPERS ARE FINE, YET THIS KEEPS HAPPENING. NOT BEING ABLE TO USE WIPERS FOR EVEN SECONDS IS DANGEROUS, AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE NOW WHEN IT RAINS. I HAVE RECORDED VIDEO ON MY CELLPHONE OF IT HAPPENING, AND STILL IT IS NO USE BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT RECREATE IT. THIS IS A VERY STRESSFUL AND FRUSTRATING SITUATION, THAT COULD COST ME MY LIFE IF NOT ADDRESSED.
I HAVE 3 PARTS PROBLEM OF MY CAR. 1.) MY STEERING WHEEL ARE NOT IN THE PERFECT BALANCE.NORMAL STEERING WHEEL FACE 12 OCLOCK BUT SLIGHTLY TURNING TO RIGHT ABOUT 12:30 OR 1 OCLOCK POSITION,SO WHEN I RUN AT SLOW SPEED ABOUT 5 MPH IT TURN RIGHT ABOUT 3 SECOND AND WHEN YOU RUN IT AT HIGH SPEED MORE WORSE. 2.) MY 2 BEARING PART IS WORN OUT I GUESS,BECAUSE I NOTICE THAT I RUN AT 55 OR 60 MPH AT FREEWAY IT MAKE ALOT OF NOISE LIKE RUMBLING SOUND FEELS LIKE FALLING APART. THE EFFECTED PART IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ON THE RIGHT AND THE OTHER ONE IS ON THE BACK SIDE ON THE LEFT BOTH OF THEM NEED TO REPLCE SOON AS POSSIBLE THIS REQUEST IS URGENT FOR MY FAMILY SAFTEY I HAVE 1 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER RIDING WITH ME AND MY WIFE. 3.) MANY OF DAY I DROVE MY CAR RUN AT SPEED OF 25 OR 30 MPH AND WHEN I HIT THE BUMP AND PRESS THE BRAKES THE BRAKE GOES ALL THE WAY ITS FEEL LIKE SHAKING AND THE BRAKES BARELY TOUCH THE FLOOR ITS HAPPEN MANY TIME SO DANGERIOUS I CHECK MY BRAKE DOT OIL IT WAS GOOD PERFECT LEVEL. AND I ALSO COMPLAINT MY CAR BODY PART THE HOOD,THE BACK FENDER RIGHT SIDE AND LEFT RUSTY,DENT & SCRATCHES HOPEFULLY I CAN GET A HELP SOON.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 45 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM INDICATOR LIGHT CAME HOME CAUSING THE SPEED TO IMMEDIATELY DROP DOWN TO 20MPH. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF. I WAITED AND THE CAR STARTED BACK UP FINE. THE NEXT DAY, WHILE DRIVING, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT MY CAR OFF. I WAS ABLE TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN INTO A PARKIN SPOT. AFTER TRYING TO CRANK THE CAR, IT FINALLY STARTED AND THE LIGHT DIDNT COME ON. THE NEXT DAY, HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND NEW SPARK PLUGS PUT IN. THE CAR DROVE FINE AT FIRST AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, THE SPPED DROPPED TO 10MPH. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP GOING AND STOP AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT FINALLY GOT IT.THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS A RECALL TO HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF!!! IT IS GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING SERIOUSLY INJURED TO HAVE SOMETHING HAPPEN
I BOUGHT 2008 JEEP PATRIOT NEW, THIS SUMMER (2015), I FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO A RUSTED OUT FRONT STEEL FRAME ASSEMBLY, THAT HOLDS THE STEERING UNIT AND THE LOWER ARMS OF THE WHEELS, IT DIRECTLY EFFECTS THE STEERING. I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE SEEN WHERE CHRYSLER WAS RECALLING OLDER 2007 JEEPS WITH SAME PROBLEMS BUT NOT MINE. THIS JOB COST BETWEEN $900.00 TO $1000.00.
I HAD JUST FILLED THE TANK AS USUAL AND DROVE ABOUT 500 YARDS TO A RED LIGHT. IN THE PAST AFTER A FILL UP, THE JEEP WOULD STALL AND "BUCK" AROUND 30 MPH, AS IF IT COULDN'T GET INTO GEAR, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A CVT. I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT IT DIDN'T THIS TIME, WHICH WAS CURIOUS. AT THE LIGHT, UPON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE, AND THE CAR REMAINED IN DRIVE, BUT REFUSED TO MOVE. I COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL. A RED LIGHT IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE DASH CAME ON AND BEGAN TO BEEP, AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD LIT UP, WITH EVERY LIGHT COMING ON AND MAKING NOISE. EVENTUALLY, I LOST ALL POWER AND WAITED MORE THAN AN HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A THREE LANE AVENUE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME A RELAY WAS ENTIRELY BLOWN AND BLACKENED, AND THIS HAD KILLED THE BATTERY. THIS WAS REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME, BUT HE SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND WHAT HAD CAUSED THE RELAY TO BLOW. ESSENTIALLY, WHAT OCCURRED WAS A SYMPTOM, NOT THE CAUSE, AND WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY SITTING, DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I ALSO HAD LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED AT 55,000 MILES, WHICH IS FAR TOO EARLY. I LOVE JEEP, BUT I HATE THE 2007-2010 PATRIOTS. BAD BUY.
I BOUGHT A NEW 2008 JEEP PATRIOT, THAT I PARK IN GARAGE IN WINTER IN THE EVENING WHEN NOT DRIVING, THIS PAST SUMMER (2015), I TOOK MY JEEP TO GET INSPECTED AND THE MECHANIC AT THE GARAGE SAID HE CAN NOT PASS IT DUE TO THE RUSTED OUT SUB FRAME THAT HOLDS THE STEERING, AND FRONT END PARTS; I CALLED THE JEEP DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE THE $600.00 DOLLAR PART ON HAND, WHICH MEANS TO ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PART THAT IS FAILING. SINCE IT IS A BOX FRAME PIECE IT APPEARS THAT EITHER THE PART WAS NOT CLEANED OR PLATED ON THE INSIDE CORRECTLY, SINCE THESE PARTS ARE RUSTING OUT FROM THE INSIDE TO OUTSIDE, AND BY THE TIME YOU SEE THE RUST IT IS TO LATE AND RUSTED THOUGH CAUSING A DANGER IN FRAME AND STEERING ALL WITHIN JUST A FEW YEARS ( 6). ALL TOGETHER THIS WAS A $900.00 DOLLAR JOB TO FIX.
UPON TAKING MY WIFE'S JEEP PATRIOT FOR THE YEARLY INSPECTION IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA, I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A RUSTED OUT AND ROTTED CROSSMEMBER AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE DRIVEN ANY LONGER. I WAS GIVEN A 10 DAY PERIOD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED OR THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TOTALLY INOPERABLE. I CONTACTED BOTH RON LEWIS AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE DEPT. IN ADDITION TO CHRYSLER. RON LEWIS CHECKED THE VIN NUMBER AND SAID THAT THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING BULLETINS FOR THIS REPAIR. IN ADDITION, CHRYSLER DID NOT OFFER TO COMPENSATE FOR THE REPAIR. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM JEFF SCHMITT AUTO GROUP IN BEAVERCREEK, OHIO IN MARCH 2014. I TOOK IT IN FOR IT'S REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE ON DECEMBER 22, 2014. THE MECHANIC NOTICED A GAPING, RUSTED HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME AND WAS VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ANY FURTHER. HE INDICATED THAT THIS AMOUNT OF DETERIORATION AND RUST WOULD TAKE WELL OVER A YEAR TO OCCUR. I'VE ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 9 MONTHS AND MY LIMITED WARRANTY WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 6 MONTHS. THIS ARTICLE SEEMS TO MIRROR THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING WITH MY JEEP, WHICH IS MADE BY CHRYSLER, AS WELL. *TR
VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY, AFTER EVALUATIONS AND INSPECTIONS BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS, I'M TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO, USED FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER AS IS, WITH CLEAN HISTORY. HAD THEM CHECK EVERYTHING OVER ONE FINAL TIME BEFORE PURCHASE. NOW I'M READING THAT MANY OTHER JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HIGHLY SUGGEST A RECALL FOR THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. IT HAS A CVT TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IF IT OVERHEATS THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY, LUCKILY NEITHER HE NOT ANY OTHER MOTORIST WAS HURT. IN 2014 JEEP CHANGED FROM THE CVT TRANSMISSION ENTIRELY, SUGGESTING THEIR AWARENESS OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. WE DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO GO THROUGH WHAT WE'VE BEEN THROUGH, GET HURT OR EVEN WORSE. I DO HOPE YOU WOULD TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY AND LAUNCH A FULL INVESTIGATION INTO CHRYSLER. *TR
I WENT TO MY LOCAL GAS STATION TO REFUEL MY JEEP. AFTER PUMPING IN 38 CENTS THE PUMP CLICKED. I REMOVED THE NOZZLE AND TRIED AGAIN AND IT CLICKED ONCE MORE. IT TOOK 11 MINUTES TO PUMP MY TANK FULL. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO REFUSED TO HELP WITH ANY ASSISTANCE TO FIX MY VEHICLE AND STATED I WOULD FIRST HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC WITH A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, (WHICH IN MY AREA NEVER ANSWERS THE PHONE AND NEVER HAS AN APPOINTMENT TIME OPEN) WANTS 115 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. I HAD MY FORD DEALER DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE VENT LINE IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK IS CLOGGED. ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, ACCORDING TO ALLDATA, THIS PART IS NOT SERVICE ABLE WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK WHICH IS QUOTED AT 922 FOR THE PART AND BETWEEN 400-600 FOR INSTALLATION. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T SEE HOW REFUELING MY TANK WILL CAUSE THIS ISSUE. I THINK THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR
1. MY DAUGHTER TOOK HER CAR IN BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START AND THE MECHANIC TOLD HER THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING. HE FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AND SHE LIMPED IT HOME. JULY 22ND 2. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO WORK ONE WEEK LATER AND HER CAR LOST POWER AND SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY, I CALLED AAA AND HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. AUGUST 2ND. HE KEPT IT FOR A WEEK TESTING FOR ISSUES. 3. I DROVE THE CAR TO WORK AND WHEN I TRIED TO GO HOME IT WOULD NOT START. I TOWED IT TO A JEEP DEALER WHO FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM AND CHARGED ME $390.00 TO FIX IT. AUGUST 15. *TR
HAD TRANSMISSION SERVICE COMPLETED @ 99K MILES, CAR COULDN'T MAKE IT 70 MILES @ 75MPH TO THE AIRPORT. HAD TO PULL OVER AND WAIT 15 MIN THEN 'LIMPED' 10 MILES LEFT TO THE AIRPORT. HAD THE FLUID AND TRANS CHECKED... 'ALL GOOD NO PROBLEMS, FLUID LOOKS REALLY CLEAN, JUST A TERRIBLE DESIGNED TRANSMISSION' PLEASE RECALL THIS TERRIBLE TRANSMISSION! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN REDUCING SPEED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVEN DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,600.
I BOUGHT MY JEEP TO BE A SAFE FAMILY VEHICLE AND INSTEAD I WORRY EVERY TIME I GET BEHIND THE WHEEL BECAUSE I BUCKLE MY SEAT. I HAVE BEEN IN A HEAD ON COLLISION BEFORE IN A JEEP WRANGLER AND WAS FORTUNATE TO BE OKAY, NOW THIS VEHICLE'S SEATBELT UNBUCKLES ITSELF DURING DRIVING, AND WHEN PRESSURE IS BEING APPLIED. I KNOW THAT IT IS NOT "USER ERROR" BECAUSE IT HAPPENS TO EVERY PERSON WHO HAS DRIVEN MY PATRIOT. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL SAFE WITH MY INFANTS IN THE CAR WHEN I CAN'T EVEN FEEL SAFE WITH JUST ME IN IT?! *TR
