UNLESS I STOP FUELING PRIOR TO A COMPLETE FILL UP, GAS WILL SPILL OUT. I HAVE MENTIONED THIS TO A COUPLE DIFFERENT JEEP SERVICE ADVISORS AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIPS THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THIS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER.
4/2009-FUEL SPITTING OUT WHEN GASSING UP ( WHEN FILLED, DOES NOT STOP) TOOK TO DEALERSHIP. STATES D/T BAD VENT VALVE. INSTALLED A NEW TANK. IN 2013- STARTED BACK DOING THE SAME THING AND CONTINUES. I HAVE TO GAUGE, WHEN I THINK IT'S FILLED AND STOP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON TEXAS F.M. 722 IN THE AFTERNOON. IT HAD STARTED TO HAIL AND I HAD SLOWED TO APPX. 45 MPH WHEN I LOST ALL STEERING. MY JEEP SKIDDED SIDEWAYS THEN WENT INTO THE BAR DITCH AND THROUGH A FENCE, NARROWLY MISSING A POWER POLE. FURTHER EVALUATION BY A MECHANIC SHOWED THAT THE STEERING GEAR BOX SHAFT HAD BEEN CRACKED, "FOR A LONG TIME", BASED ON THE RUST PRESENT HALF WAY THROUGH THE SHAFT. THE SHAFT THEN SNAPPED AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN CAUSING COMPLETE STEERING FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AT NIGHT WITH THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED,THE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SELECTOR FAILED TO FUNCTION WHEN ENGAGED. THE DRIVER CONTINUED OPERATION WITH THE HIGH BEAMS IN ACTIVATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE DIMMER SWITCH. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY OF THE MANUFACTURE PART REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR. THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
FUEL OVERFLOWS AND SPILLS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS REFUELED. PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A BAD CHECK VALVE IN THE GAS TANK WHICH REQUIRES THE GAS TANK TO BE REPLACED. SAME TANK AND JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL IT RECURS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN AS APPROXIMATELY 1 CUP OF FUEL IS SPILLED ON THE OPERATOR. *TR
MULTIPLE DEFECTIVE 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE HAD THREE TRANSMISSIONS INSTALLED IN MY JEEP, AND ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, HARD TO PULL OUT OF FIRST, AND GRINDING DURING UP SHIFTS FROM FIRST TO SECOND AND SECOND TO THIRD. I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE ON THE INTERNET THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT CHRYSLER HAS NOT COME UP WITH FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THE ISSUE CAN BE HAZARDOUS, IF YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCELERATE IN TRAFFIC, YOU CAN'T BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WON'T GO INTO GEAR. *TR
EVERY SINGLE TIME I PUT GAS IN THE JEEP, IT OVERFLOWS. EVEN IF I LISTEN CAREFULLY AND TRY TO STOP IT BEFORE IT IS COMPLETELY FULL. IT SPRAYS GAS ALL OVER ME, THE PARKING LOT AND THE JEEP. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I'M AFRAID OF A FIRE. *TR
SPITS FUEL EVERY TIME I FILL UP, NO MATTER WHERE OR HOW SLOWLY I FILL IT. 3-5 OUNCES OF FUEL SPIT BACK OUT EVERY FILL UP, ON FIRST AUTO SHUT OFF OCCASIONALLY FUEL IS EXPELLED FORCEFULLY ENOUGH TO SPLASH ON OBJECTS18-24 INCHES AWAY. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP THE JEEP WITH GASOLINE, GAS PUMPS WILL NOT CLICK OFF, AND THE FUEL TANK OVERFILLS, BUT SPRAYS OUT WITH GREAT FORCE SOAKING THE INDIVIDUAL PUMPING GASOLINE. *TR
PARIS RENT A CAR RENTED 2 @2005 JEEP WRANGLERS THAT HAD BALD TIRES, BAD BRAKES AND INPROPER STEERING WHILE VISTING ST. JOHNS, VIRGIN ISLAND. PARIS RENT A CAR, P. O BOX 1155, CRUZ BAY, ST. JOHN VI 00831. *TR
DASH GAUGES, INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER/TACHOMETER, SEAT BELT RESTRAINT LIGHT AND ENGINE GAUGES GO ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. VERY DISTRACTIVE AS WELL AS DANGEROUS AS YOU SUDDENLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR SPEED IS WHILE DRIVING. *TR
GAS TANK ALWAYS SPILLS OVER ON THE SIDE OF MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER, AND USUALLY ON MYSELF. HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM SINCE MY FIRST FILL-UP. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER (TJ IN CANADA). CHECK GAUGES LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. DROVE TO GET OFF AT EXIT. CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. GEARS ON OIL PUMP WERE STRIPPED AND NO OIL GOT TO ENGINE -AS A RESULT ENGINE SEIZED. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE SERIAL # ON MY OIL PUMP IS NOT WITHIN THE RANGE OF THE BULLETIN. AT 138,000 KM I HAVE TO REPLACE AN ENGINE (OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY). *TR
MY GAS TANK OVERFLOWS AFTER THE MACHINE CLICKS OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME IN MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 28K MILES ON IT. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED. NO EXCESSIVE WEAR OR TEAR. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SPLASHING GAS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS TOPPED OFF FOR OVER A YEAR. THIS CAUSES ANYWHERE FROM A HALF PINT TO A QUART OF GAS TO SPRAY AND RUN DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP. AS FAR AS I KNOW JEEP HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX WHAT I SEE AS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
EVERY FILL UP THE FUEL SPLASHES BACK OUT OF THE FILL TUBE, SPILLING ABOUT A CUP OF FUEL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND.THIS HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF THE FILL RATE. I HAVE LOOKED THE FUEL SYSTEM OVER TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY, AND CAN'T COME UP WITH THE CAUSE. *TR
I CANNOT FILL MY GAS TANK FULL WITHOUT GAS COMING OUT SPILLING ON THE VEHICLE AND ON ME. I OWN A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. IT ONLY HAS 25,258 MILES ON IT. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I DID NOT PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I SPOKE TO CHRYSLER MOTORS CORP CUSTOMER CENTER (1-800-992-1997) (REF. #18329606) ON FEBRUARY 10, 2009 ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM REQUESTING THAT CHRYSLER REPAIRS THE GAS TANK FOR ME BECAUSE LIVES ARE AT DANGER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FILLED UP WITH GAS AND GAS COMES OUT OF THE TANK. GAS IS GETTING ON THE VEHICLE, MY HANDS AND THE GROUND AT THE PUMP. ARMBRUSTER MOTOR CO. (1-800-766-0980) INFORMED ME ON FEBRUARY 6, 2009, THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE WAS TO PURCHASE A NEW GAS TANK. THE COST OF A NEW GAS TANK WOULD BE AROUND $500.00. CHRYSLER TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR A NEW GAS TANK BUT IF I PAY FOR THE NEW GAS TANK THEY WOULD COVER THE NEW TANK FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY FOR THIS REPAIR BECAUSE THEY DESIGNED THE FAULTY GAS TANK THAT WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN I FILL MY VEHICLE WITH GAS. IT IS NOT LIKE THE RADIO DOESN'T WORK, SPILLED GAS IS A FIRE HAZARD. *TR THANK YOU, JENNIFER WILLMAN
FUEL FILLER OVERFLOWS WHEN FUELING TANK, EVERY TIME. *TR
RECENTLY PURCHASED 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING, DRIVERS KNEE WILL INADVERTENTLY BUMP THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND ITS STEERING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 WEEKS. WE CANNOT BE THE ONLY CONSUMER HAVING THIS PROBLEM...THIS IS A SET-UP FOR A FATALITY. I SEE NO RECALL ON THIS... *TR
GAS TANK SPILLS EVERY TIME I FILL IT UP. SQUIRTS OUT AND ONTO MY CLOTHES, GROUND, PAINT JOB AND FENDER. ME AND MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. RECALL!!!! *TR
Engine warning light has been coming on since about 70k miles(190k now). Scanner says O2 sensor is bad. After replacement of the O2 sensor, the fault continues to show up randomly. I carry a scanner to reset the engine code on the road. All wiring has been checked and is ok. When I clear the code, the error does not show up again for anywhere from 125 miles to around 300 miles. Clearing the code starts the process all over.
JEEP WRANGLER ALWAYS SPRAYS OUT FUEL A SECOND OR TWO AFTER THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF SHUTS OFF THE PUMP. FUEL IS SPRAYED ON THE VEHICLE, GROUND, PUMP, AND ANY PERSON STANDING ANYWHERE NEAR THE NOZZLE. IT DOES THIS AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS, AND MULTIPLE PUMPS. RUNNING THE PUMP ON THE SLOWEST POSSIBLE SETTING IS THE ONLY WORKAROUND, WHICH RESULTS IN A SMALL AMOUNT SPILLING ON THE GROUND. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON BOTH MY JEEP WRANGLERS, AND HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS SPEWED GASOLINE ALL OVER THE VEHICLE AND THE PERSON WHO FUELS THE VEHICLE SINCE THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH FUEL AFTER PURCHASE. THE ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER AND WAS IGNORED. THERE WAS NOTHING PRINTED ON WARRANTY PRINT OUT AFTER SERVICE FOR MULTIPLE ITEMS(STEERING DAMPENER). YEARS AFTER I SPOKE WITH SAME DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN AS IT WAS A "COMMON" PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER HAD BEEN REPAIRING ON OTHER VEHICLES. UPON ARRIVAL THEY TRY TO CHARGE ME FOR REPAIR. I REFUSED. I AM STUNNED THAT THE NHTSA HAS ELECTED TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM AND LABEL IT AS AN INTERNET SENSATION WHEN THERE IS LITERALLY A MOUNTAIN OF EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE. I CAN PROVIDE VIDEOS, PICTURES, AND MAKE MY SELF AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION TODAY. I CAN SHOW THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD AND CAN BE REPEATED ON A LARGE NUMBER VEHICLES USING THE SAME PART. THIS IS ALSO AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AS LARGE QUANTITIES OF FUEL ARE BEING DUMPED ON THE GROUND ON A DAILY BASIS. I FIND THAT THE CHRYSLER AS WELL AS NHTSA ARE IN FACT NEGLIGENT BY NOT PURSUING THEIR INVESTIGATION OF THIS HAZARDOUS CONDITION. I HAVE TO QUESTION THE RELEVANCE OF NHTSA WHEN SUCH AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IS REPORTED ONLY TO BE IGNORED. YOUR ORGANIZATION HAS ESSENTIALLY TOLD THE VEHICLE OWNERS THAT IF THEY ORGANIZE ON THE INTERNET THEIR CLAIMS WILL BE CONSIDERED TO LACK MERIT. IN ADDITION, THE SAME PARTS IN OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCTS CAN BE SHOWN TO HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED BY YOUR ORGANIZATION TO BE FAULTY, YET IGNORED IN EARLIER MODELS. IN FACT, CHRYSLER AT TIMES REPLACES THESE SAME PARTS AT RANDOM IN OTHER MODELS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN DECLARED IN A RECALL. *NOTE: THE DATE OF FIRST INSTANCE IS NOT CORRECT AS I CANNOT RECALL THE EXACT DATE OF PURCHASE. HOWEVER, THIS HAS OCCURRED EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL THE VEHICLE UP AND HAS SO SINCE THE FIRST TIME. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED BUT UNDER MFG WARRANTY
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL SHIMMY AND WOBBLE PROBLEMS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF THIS SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION (THE LATEST WAS AS RECENT AS 9/17/2012. FOR SAFETY WE NO LONGER DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN FILLING. OCCURS AT BOTH HIGH/LOW SPEED AUTOFILL. WILL OVERFLOW AT MANUAL FILL AS WELL, UNLESS YOU HEAR GURGLING AND SHUT OFF PUMP BEFORE OVERFLOW. *TR

FUEL SURGES BACK OUT OF FILL TUBE WHILE REFUELING. IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME I REFUEL THE VEHICLE. HUGE SAFETY FACTOR BECAUSE ABOUT A QUART OF GASOLINE GETS ON ME, THE VEHICLE, AND THE GROUND. CALLED CHRYSLER TO COMPLAIN AND THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE ISSUE BECAUSE I'M THE SECOND OWNER. I HAVE HEARD OF NUMEROUS WRANGLER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER SHAKES VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING ANY MINOR BUMP WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH OR ABOVE. THE VEHICLE MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THE SHAKING WILL STOP. TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACE, WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHICH STOPPED THE SHAKING FOR A FEW MONTHS. THE SHAKING IS BACK AND NOW THE STEERING STABILIZER ARM IS BEING REPLACED JUST TO SEE IF THAT WILL STOP THE SHAKING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS TRYING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON A FREEWAY. *TR
I DO NOT RECALL EXACTLY WHEN THIS ISSUE BEGAN. BUT MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED SPILLS FUEL EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TANK. THE GAS DOES NOT SHUT OFF WHEN FULL AND OVER A CUP OF FUEL SPILLS OUT. THE DEALER SHIP CLAIMS THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM ON JEEPS OLDER THAN 2007. *TT
REAR TAIL GATE HINGES CRACK AND BREAK INTO. HAVE TO REPLACE HINGES BECAUSE REAR TAIL GATE DOES NOT HANG CORRECTLY AND REAR GATE MIGHT BREAK OFF. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. *TR
STARTING AT APPROXIMATELY 25000 MILES, GAS BEGAN SPILLING OUT OF THE FILLER NOZZLE DURING REFUELING. THIS OCCURS REGARDLESS OF STATION LOCATION. THE JEEP WAS BROUGHT TO A MECHANIC WHO CLAIMED IT WAS AN ISSUE INSIDE THE TANK. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER. SEVERE WHEEL SHIMMY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50-55 MPH. SHIMMY OCCURS AFTER HITTING A BUMP. DEALER AND CHRYSLER SAY STEERING DAMPER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NHTSA 10020334 HAS BEEN ISSUED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REFUEL THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL WOULD SPEW BACK OUT ONTO THE GROUND. THE DEALER MADE TWO ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE PARTS NEEDED WERE NOT READILY AVAILABLE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF THE PARTS FOR REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,309 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR VALVE STEMS WERE CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
STEERING DAMPENER NEEDS REPLACING ON 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE WHEEL SHAKES SO BAD AT 50 MPH IF YOU HIT A BUMP IT CAN BE RIPPED FROM YOUR HANDS. PART IS BACKORDER UNTIL AUGUST. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE IS A WAITING LIST OF 2000 PEOPLE FOR THIS PART. THUS IT MIGHT WARRANT A RECALL. *TR
JEEP SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN A BUMP IS HIT OR ROAD IS UNEVEN. THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE USED VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM DID NOT SHOW ITSELF DURING THE TEST DRIVE BUT AFTER INVESTIGATING THROUGH THE INTERNET THEIR ARE SEVERAL JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS WITH THE "DEATHWOBBLE" PROBLEM. I CLICKED ON YOUR LINK PROVIDED BY A LOCAL TELEVISION NEWS STATION WSOC CHANNEL 9 IN CHARLOTTE, NC AFTER THEY COVERED A STORY ABOUT ANOTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLE. I IMPLORE YOU TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND ASK CHRYSLER TO RECALL OR REPAIR, AT THEIR EXPENSE, MY VEHICLE AND OTHER VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT. AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS PURCHASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP, CROSSROADS FORD P&A CODE 00994, AND WE WERE TOLD AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE CHRYSLER'S WARRANTY WAS STILL VALID. AFTER TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND EVEN TAKING IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP NO ONE WILL ACCEPT ACCOUNTABILITY. WE HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT AND FEAR FOR THE LIFE OF OUR SON. *TR
DRIVING WRANGLER AT 50 MPH WHEN THE FRONT END BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THIS WAS VERY TRAUMATIC, I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. WHEN I SEARCHED THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM AMONG JEEP OWNERS. DEALERSHIP DIDN'T SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT PROBLEM. DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING DAMPER AND STABILIZER BAR WENT BAD. OF COURSE THESE ITEMS WERE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. JEEP NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE FROM THIS. PLEASE GOOGLE "DEATH WOBBLE"HAPPENED TO MY WIFE AND CHILDREN. WILL NOT TAKE KIDS IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER ROCKY MOUNTAIN EDITION. EVERY TIME I FILL UP A THE GAS STATION GAS OVER FLOWS. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I BARELY SQUEEZE THE HANDLE, OR LEAVE IT ON THE AUTO FLOW NOTCHES. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. *TR

ABOUT A QUART OF FUEL WILL BURP BACK OUT AND WILL SPLASH ON THE VEHICLE, GROUND, AND PERSON REFUELING THE JEEP. I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY ADMITTED THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY CHECK VALVE LOCATED INSIDE OF THE GAS TANK. THE ONLY REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE I'M THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE WHICH IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 53,000 MILES. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE A RECALL AT THE MANUFACTURES EXPENSE. *TR

THIS JEEP BOUGHT "USED' IN 2007 WITH 18K MILES AND NO MODIFICATIONS. NO POST-PURCHASE MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. PROBLEM FIRST NOTICED AT 20K MILES AND HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. AT 45+ MPH, WHILE ENTERING FREEWAY ON-RAMP OVERPASS, HIT EXPANSION JOINT IN ROAD. JEEP BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE FROM THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE, AND STEERING WHEEL WOBBLED LEFT TO RIGHT, 5 TO 6 INCHES EACH SIDE, UNCONTROLLABLY. VEHICLE SOUNDED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO LITERALLY FALL APART. DRIVER TRIED BREAKING GENTLY BUT VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SHAKE/WOBBLE EVEN WORSE. WITH DIFFICULTY, DRIVER GOT VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD AND CALLED FOR HELP. ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL 55 - 60 MPH AND DECELERATING, VEHICLE STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING/WOBBLING, UNPROVOKED BY ROADWAY DEFECT OR OBSTRUCTION. DRIVER BROKE HARD, DOWN-SHIFTED, GOT VEHICLE TO SHOULDER OF ROAD AND CAME TO COMPLETE STOP. WOBBLE DID NOT CEASE UNTIL CAR STOPPED. OTHER OCCASIONS, TYPICALLY WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45 - 60 MPH ON FREEWAY, STEERING WHEEL WILL START WOBBLING, SUBTLY AT FIRST, THEN ALL-OUT SHIMMY/WOBBLE FROM FRONT END. ON ONE OCCASION VEHICLE SEEMED TO SELF-CORRECT, BUT DRIVER SENSED WOBBLING TRYING TO RETURN. ON ALL OCCASIONS DRIVER(S) GRASPED STEERING WHEEL HARD TO TRY TO "CALM" VEHICLE. THREE DIFFERENT FAMILY DRIVERS (AND ONLY DRIVERS) OF THIS VEHICLE ALL EXPERIENCED SIMILAR VEHICLE MALFUNCTION. JEEP HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THREE DIFFERENT SERVICE CENTERS (CHRYSLER/JEEP, LES SCHWAB, KEN'S TIRES) FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR. OWNERS PURCHASED SUGGESTED PARTS AND SERVICE EACH TIME. PROBLEM EVENTUALLY RETURNS. *TR
THE TIRES HAD LESS THAT 2,000 MILES OF USE AND. UPON DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE SUFFERED A BLOWOUT IN THE SIDEWALL. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS MANAGED TO BE BROUGHT TO A SAFE STOP. THE TIRE IS UNUSABLE AND WILL BE REPLACED. *TR
I WAS TOWING MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER WHEN A PASSING MOTORIST SIGNALED ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I STOPPED AND CHECKED THE JEEP WHICH WAS COVERED WITH AN OILY MATERIAL. I HAD A TOW TRUCK TOW THE JEEP TO SAN MARCOS CHRYSLER/JEEP. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NECESSARY TO REBUILD THE FRONT AND REAR DIFFERENTIALS AND REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE AND BOTH FRONT AXLES. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS CAUSED BY HAVING A ONE SIZE LARGER TIRE ON THE FRONT TIRES THAN THE BACK TIRES. THIS WOULD ONLY CAUSE THE PROBLEM IF THE CAR WAS DRIVEN IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHICH IT NEVER WAS. *TR
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK, FUEL SPLASHES BACK OUT OF FILL PIPE. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW THE TANK IS FILLED, OR WHAT POSITION THE FILL NOZZLE IS PLACED IN THE FILL OPENING, IT SPLASHES BACK OUT OF THE FILL PIPE, COVERING THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, AS WELL AS THE PERSON FILLING IF STANDING TOO CLOSE. I SEE THIS AS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS STATIC ELECTRICITY COULD EASILY IGNITE THE FUEL IN THIS SCENARIO. I'VE READ ON JEEP BLOGS THAT THE CURE IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK DUE TO A DEFECTIVE VALVE IN THE TANK AT THE COST OF OVER $900. BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE REPLACEMENT TANK IS JUST ANOTHER DEFECTIVE TANK, AS THERE IS NOT AN UPDATED UNIT AVAILABLE, THUS SETTING UP ANOTHER FUTURE FAILURE. I HAVE RESEARCHED "DEATH WOBBLE" IN JEEP WRANGLERS EXTENSIVELY AND FOUND THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM, BUT JEEP COMPLETELY DENIES IT'S EXISTENCE. WHAT HAPPENS IS AT 40-70 MILES PER HOUR A HARMONIC ACTION STARTS THE FRONT END VIBRATING AND WILL CAUSE A SEVERE SHIMMY, TO THE POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE SLOWED OR STOPPED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AND STREETS, BOTH WITH HAIR RAISING RESULTS AND NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES, SHOCKS, STABILIZERS, SPRINGS. THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME BUT EVENTUALLY IT COMES BACK. UNDER WARRANTY THEY FIX A COUPLE THINGS WHICH MASKS THE PROBLEM, BUT IT STILL WILL RETURN. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, JEEP ISSUE AND THEY WILL NOT REPAIR OR ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM. THE DESIGNERS NEED TO COME UP WITH A FIX, WITH A RECALL AND SOON BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER HE WAS DISPENSING FUEL INTO THE FUEL TANK, WITH A RESPONSE OF FUEL SPRAYING OUT OF THE TANK. THE FAILURE CONTINUED FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS WHEN THE FUEL TANK REACHED FULL CAPACITY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. I OWN A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHEN FILLING UP THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE IT OFTEN DOESN'T REGISTER THE FACT THAT THE TANK IS FULL AND THE GAS COMES POURING OUT. THERE IS A FAULTY PART IN THE GAS TANK/GAS TANK ASSEMBLY THAT SOME OF US CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR OUT OF POCKET. IN FACT, WHY SHOULD WE? IT'S A DEFECT FROM THE FACTORY. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING BUT I LISTED THE APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE AS THE MONTH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK, IT OVERFLOWS AFTER THE NOZZLE CLICKS CLOSED. THE ONLY WAY I'VE FOUND TO PREVENT THIS IS TO 'GUESS' WHEN THE TANK IS ALMOST FULL, THEN PUT MY EAR TO THE OPENING AND LISTEN FOR FUEL COMING TO THE TOP. THAT'S DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE UNNECESSARY.
