FUEL SPILLS OUT OF THE TANK WHEN REFUELING AT A GAS STATION. IF I FILL UP THE TANK, LETTING THE GAS PUMP SHUT OFF WHEN IT WANTS TO, ABOUT A CUP OF FUEL COMES BACK OUT OF THE GAS TANK. I AM NOT TOPPING OFF THE TANK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR WAS FAULTY, WHICH CAUSED FUEL TO SPEW BACK OUT OF THE FILLER NECK WHEN REFUELING. THE FAILURE RECURRED AT EVERY FILLUP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. MA 08/05/15 UPDATED 8/24/2015 *JS
WHEN PUMPING FUEL INTO THE 2010 WRANGLER UNLIMITED INSTEAD OF THE PUMP CUTTING OFF IT SPEWS GAS OUT OF THE TANK. THINKING IT MAY BE A PUMP FAILURE I IGNORED. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED AT EVERY GAS PUMP I GO TO. YOU CAN PUMP GAS VERY SLOWLY INTO THE TANK AND WHEN YOU THINK YOU ARE GETTING NEAR RELEASE, BUT THIS DOES NOT FIX THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHICH COULD LEAD TO POTENTIAL FIRE ISSUES, ALONG WITH ERODING PAINT. I HAVE TO GET A CAR WASH WHENEVER THIS HAPPENS. THE GAS GETS ON MY CLOTHES AND SHOES. THIS PROBLEM ALSO AFFECTS MY JOB. THE ARE NUMEROUS VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE DETAILING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
ON JAN. 19TH, 2012 MY JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON EDITION (WITH AUTO TRANNY) CAUGHT ON FIRE. JUST PRIOR TO THAT THE ENGINE HAD CUT OFF. I LOST ALL POWER. MY CO-WORKER INDICATED THAT THE CARS COMING TOWARDS US WERE FLASHING THEIR LIGHTS AND HONKING THEIR HORNS. I LOOKED IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROW TO SEE IF THERE WAS SOMEONE BEHIND ME, AND SAW A TRAIL OF SMOKE FROM MY JEEP. I HAD NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM, AND ACCORDING TO THE DEPUTY SHERRIFF, WHO WAS TRAVELING TOWARDS ME DURING THE SITUATION, THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY ON FIRE. WE DRIFTED TO THE NEXT PULL OFF AND JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE, AFTER PUTTING IT IN PARK. I REALIZED AT THAT TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING FORWARD, AND HAD TO JUMP BACK IN TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP IT FROM ROLLING DOWN THE STREET. MY CO-WORKER SAID THAT THERE APPEARED TO BE SOMETHING ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD, AND I TOLD HIM NOT TO OPEN IT, SO HE WENT FOR HELP. I PROCEEDED TO REMOVE MY WORK AND HUNTING GEAR. I MANAGED TO GET MY PAYROLL CHECKS, DEPOSIT CHECKS, AND MY TOOL BAG OUT OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT WAS FULLY INVOLVED, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT. AS I REACHED INTO THE BACK TO GRAB MY TOOL BAG, I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER COMPARMENT WAS ALREADY FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. NEITHER OF US WAS HURT, EXCEPT FOR SOME SMOKE INHALATION. I AM THANKFUL THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY FAMILY WITH ME, THAT WE WERE NOT TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, OR THAT I DID NOT MAKE IT HOME AND PARK THE JEEP IN THE GARAGE. FROM THE TIME THE JEEP SHUT OFF UNTIL IT WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WAS APPROX. 45 SECONDS. IN TALKING TO ME "OFF THE RECORD" THE INSPECTOR FROM JEEP SAID THAT HE BELIEVED THAT "DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF BLOW-BACK DAMAGE THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING IT, AND THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY A FUEL LINE RUPTURE ISSUE. BUT HE DIDN'T WANT TO FORMALLY STATE THAT UNTIL HE WAS FINISHED. *JS
THE RECENT RECALL BY JEEP ON THE 2010 WRANGLERS DOES NOT FIT THE SITUATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN OCCURRING. SEVERAL OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED SPONTANEOUS FIRES, AND WERE NOT IN ANY OFF-ROAD SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSE DEBRIS TO COLLECT ON OR NEAR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY WERE SIMPLY DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, OR ON THE HIGHWAY. ONE OWNER, WHO CONTACTED ME, HAD 16 MILES ON IT (2012 MODEL), AND HAD JUST PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP. IT CAUGHT ON FIRE ON HIS WAY HOME. ANOTHER OWNER HAD 600 MILES ON IT (ANOTHER 2012 MODEL) AND IT WAS SITTING IN FRONT OF HIS HOME. NUMEROUS HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE 2010 MODELS EITHER. THE DEBRIS THAT "COLLECTED" UNDER MY VEHICLE WAS NOT BURNED UP IN THE FIRE, AND NOT EVEN IN THAT SAME LOCATION. I BELIEVE THAT THIS "RECALL" IS JEEP'S ATTEMPT TO BANDAGE A LARGER ISSUE THEY ARE HIDING FROM THE PUBLIC. VIDEO FROM MY FIRE CLEARLY SHOWS A LIQUID (TRANNY FLUID OR FUEL) POURING FROM THE VEHICLE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE FIRE. FUEL OVERFLOW WHEN GETTING GAS AT THE PUMP. AUTO-OFF DOES NOT CLICK OFF BUT ALSO, WHEN FUELING MANUALLY, PUMP DOES NOT CLICK OFF WHEN TANK IS FULL. ALSO, THE ANGLE OF THE GAS PUMP NOZZLE SEEMS TO AFFECT SEVERITY OF PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM STARTED BACK IN JANUARY OF 2012. HAD THE JEEP FOR 8 MONTHS WITH NO PROBLEMS.
OWNER REPORTS: UNEXPLAINED VEHICLE FIRE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS IN A CITY ROAD. (35-45 MPH) 2010 JEEP WRANGLER WHILE MOVING, OWNER/DRIVER NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE SIDES, FRONT AND INSIDE CABIN AREA, AND THE PERMEATING SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC AND VEHICLE FLUID(S). IMMEDIATELY, THE POWER-STEERING SYSTEM LOST FUNCTIONALITY WHILE OWNER TRIED TO PULL-OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MANEUVER PROPERLY AND WITH EASE. WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING FROM VEHICLE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA SUDDENLY CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING. VISIBLE FIRE FLAMES ENSUED FROM THE HOOD AREA. OWNER IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, TURNED OFF IGNITION AND PROCEEDED TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THAT, WHEN OWNER ARRIVED AT FRONT OF VEHICLE, HE SAW FLAMES PROTRUDING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. OWNER PROCEEDED TO OPEN HOOD TO FIGHT FIRE WITH HIS OWN FIRE EXTINGUISHER . OWNER HAD TO, IMMEDIATELY, JUMP-BACK BECAUSE HOT OIL/FLUIDS (POWER STEERING, TRANSMISSION COOLANT FLUID) WAS GUSHING OUT IN MASSIVE AMOUNTS. DESPITE OWNER'S ATTEMPT TO EXTINGUISH FLAMES, THE ENGINES COMPARTMENT AREA, KEPT BURNING UP SINCE AN UNCERTAIN VEHICLE OIL/FLUID KEPT FEEDING THE FIRE. (NOT GASOLINE) BY NOW, ELECTRICAL SPARKS WERE FLYING ON BURNED OUT WIRES. OWNER WAS STERNLY ADVISED TO RETREAT BY POLICE OFFICERS. FIRE DEPT ARRIVED AND FINALLY PUT OUT FIRE. NOTE: PRIOR TO THIS FIRE, NO VEHICLE TROUBLE WAS PRESENT, NOR EVIDENT. DASHBOARD INSTRUMENTS DID NOT INDICATE TO CHECK ENGINE. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS WITHIN NORMAL RANGE. NO AUDIBLE ALARMS OR VEHICLE WARNINGS WERE HEARD. VEHICLE WORKED FINE BEFORE INCIDENT. THE DEALER'S MAINTENANCE RECORDS WILL SHOW SERVICE PERFORMED 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN ANY TYPE OF CAR CRASH OR ACCIDENT. CHRYSLER GROUP HAS CLAIMED; "NO INDICATION OF A MANUFACTURING DEFECT" -CAN NHSTA PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER?
2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED: WHILE REFUELING MY VEHICLE I ENGAGED THE HANDLE TO CONTINUE FUELING WHILE I WENT INSIDE THE GAS STATION. WHEN I RETURNED, THE PUMP HAD DISENGAGED, BUT THERE WAS FUEL ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY JEEP AND ON THE GROUND. MY FUEL GAUGE REGISTERED FULL AND THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED SO I THOUGHT THE FUEL PUMP MAY HAVE BEEN FAULTY. MY NEXT TRIP TO THE GAS STATION, I MONITORED IT MORE CLOSELY AND WAS ABLE TO REFUEL AS NORMAL CONFIRMING MY ORIGINAL THOUGHT THAT THE PUMP HAD MALFUNCTIONED. DURING MY NEXT ATTEMPT TO REFUEL I HAD AGAIN ENGAGED THE HANDLE TO CONTINUE FUELING AS I SAT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HEARD THE THUNK OF THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF AND SAW AGAIN THE GAS HAD SPRAYED ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY JEEP AND ON THE GROUND. THIS WAS NOT THE SAME GAS STATION AS THE ORIGINAL OCCURRENCE SO I BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY MY GAS TANK. I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED MY GAS TANK WITHOUT EXPLANATION. AT THIS POINT I HAD APPROXIMATELY 22K MILES ON MY JEEP. I PURCHASED MY JEEP NEW IN AUGUST 2010 WITH 154 MILES ON IT. I HAVE OWNED IT FOR 18 MONTHS AND IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 22K MILES ON IT. *KB
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON! GAS CAP LIGHT STAYS ON! *TR
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
WHEN FILLING THE TANK GAS SPILLS OUT WHEN THE HANDLE STOPS FLOW AT THE FULL TANK LEVEL. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU FILL THE TANK SLOWLY OR EVEN DECREASE THE GAS FLOW TO THE POINT JUST BEFORE THE HANDLE SHUTS OFF. IT STILL OVERFLOWS. I HAVE READ IN FORUMS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP JK MODELS, POSSIBLY A DEFECT WITH THE TANK CHECK VALVE OR THE OVERFLOW DRAIN LINE. THE TSB'S I'VE READ ONLY INDICATE A FREE DEALER WARRANTY FIX FOR THE 07 AND 08 MODELS BUT REPORTS CONTINUE THE BE NOTED FOR '09 AND '10 MODELS AS WELL. THIS SAFETY HAZARD MUST BE ADDRESSED. *TR
THE 2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED WAS PARKED AND RUNNING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT TURNED OFF. I ATTEMPTED TO START, AND HEARD MY SISTER YELLING GET THE CAR IS ON FIRE. ONCE OUT OF THE JEEP I LOOKED UNDER IT AND SAW AN UNKNOWN LIQUID BURNING DOWN TO THE GROUND FROM THE ENGINE AREA. I ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH WATER BUT I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. WITHIN MINUTES IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I HAVE REAL GOOD VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT FROM BEGINNING TO END, DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY SISTER WAS VIDEOTAPING A HISTORIC POST OFFICE AT THE TIME TURNED AROUND AND WAS ABLE TO CATCH THE INCIDENT AS IT OCCURRED. *TR
THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWED IMMENSELY. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME WHEN FILLING THE TANK, NO MATTER WHAT WE DO. I AM HAVING THE TANK REPLACED, BUT AM CONCERNED FOR SAFETY REASONS. *TR
GAS TANK OVERFILL ISSUE. DURING FILL UPS THE PUMP WILL SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY AS INTENDED. WITHIN SECONDS A QUANTITY OF GAS WILL SURGE FROM THE FILLER NECK AND LEAK DOWN THE SIDE. THE QUANTITY IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT. PER MY RECORDS FROM PREVIOUS FILL UPS (WHERE THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE) NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN QUANTITY OF GAS OR MILEAGE DRIVEN HAS OCCURRED. ATTEMPTS TO LIMIT THE PROBLEM BY FILLING UP AT 1/2 TANK DID NOT HELP. SLOWING THE FILL RATE DOES NOT HELP MOST OF THE TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THAT WHEN USING THE HEAT, THERE WAS NO HEAT COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE VENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE HEATER CORE AND FLUSH THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED: I RECENTLY TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ATTEND TO ANOTHER RECALL AND CHECK OUT SOME PROBLEMS - OVERFLOWING GAS TANK, SQUEALING BRAKES, ROUGH IDLE IN TRAFFIC, INCREASINGLY ROUGH AND LOUD RIDE. I PURCHASED MY JEEP NEW 18 MONTHS AGO AND IT NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 22K MILES. THEY REPLACED THE GAS TANK WHICH I NOW UNDERSTAND IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE 2010 RUBICONS. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE BOTH ROTORS WHICH ARE NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO DEBRIS GETTING CAUGHT BETWEEN THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR ON BOTH REAR BRAKES. AND, THEY EXPLAINED THE LOUD/ROUGH RIDE WAS FROM THE UNEVEN WEAR ON MY FRONT TIRES. THE TREAD ON MY FRONT TIRES SHOWED SEVERE CUPPING. THE TECH SAID IT WAS FROM NOT ROTATING MY TIRES OFTEN ENOUGH AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEPS SINCE THE FRONT HAS MORE "PLAY" AND THE REAR IS MORE "SOLID". HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY JEEP. I QUESTIONED WHETHER THE SIGNIFICANT UNEVEN WEAR WAS ACCEPTABLE AFTER ONLY 22K MILES. HE OFFERED NO OTHER SOLUTION OTHER THAN ROTATING THE DAMAGED TIRES TO THE BACK AND WAIT FOR THEM TO WEAR EVENLY. MY CONCERN WAS ROTATING THE TIRES WOULD JUST CREATE ISSUE WITH MY OTHER TWO TIRES AS WELL. HE SAID IT'S JUST NORMAL AND I'D NEED TO REPLACE ALL OF MY TIRES SOON ANYWAY. WITH THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE BEING ONLY 18 MONTHS WITH 22K MILES, I QUESTION IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO MY SUSPENSION. *KB
DROVE APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES, AND TURNED INTO A DRIVEWAY. TRAVELING NO MORE THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW. THE VEHICLE, A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER SUSTAINED $1500 DAMAGE WHEN THE BLOWOUT JERKED THE VEHICLE INTO A STONE WALL. THE JEEP HAS 6,916 MILES ON IT, HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD, AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIRE TO BLOWOUT. *TR
2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED, VEHICLE POPS-OUT OF FIRST GEAR DURING ACCELERATION. THIS CAUSES DANGEROUS LOSS OF POWER AND ENDANGERS OCCUPANTS. SOMETIMES RESISTS BEING PLACED INTO FIRST GEAR. *TR
EVERY TIME I GO TO FILL UP MY CAR WITH GAS, I GET A OVER SPILL OF GAS THAT SHOOTS OUT OF MY CAR ABOUT 2 INCHES AWAY FROM MY CAR. AND ALSO ALONG THE SIDE OF MY CAR. IT'S A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
2010 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HOOD PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING IN WINDY CONDITIONS, THE HOOD WOULD RAPIDLY MOVE UP AND DOWN, ONE TO TWO INCHES. THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED BUYING AFTER MARKET HOOD LATCHES TO HELP PREVENT THE PROBLEM.
THE 2010 JEEP WRANGLER WAS REPAIRED OCTOBER 26TH BY A CHRYSLER DEALER FOR 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION POPPING OUT OF FIRST GEAR. APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AFTER REPAIRED, THE SAME CONDITION REAPPEARED. SINCE 10-28-11 IT HAS POPPED OUT OF FIRST GEAR 5 TIMES FOR AN AVERAGE ONCE EVERY 68 MILES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT WITH JEEP WRANGLERS THAT HAVE A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION EVEN THOUGH CHRYSLER SAYS THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP CAN NEVER RECREATE THE CONDITION WHEN THEY DRIVE IT IN THE PARKING LOT SO THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THE JEEP FIRST POPPED OUT OF FIRST GEAR ON AUGUST 31, 2011. WE FILED A COMPLIANT, #10425283, BUT FELT SINCE IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AFTER A REPAIR IT SHOULD BE FILED AGAIN. SOMEONE HAS TO DEMAND THAT CHRSYLER ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND CORRECT THE ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON MAJOR HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 60 MPH WHEN I HIT A COUPLE BUMPS IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL STARTING SHIMMING VERY HARD, THE VEHICLE STARTING WOBBLING OUT OF CONTROL, HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET THE WOBBLING AND SHAKING TO STOP. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING DAMPENER WAS BAD AND THEY REPLACED IT. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS APPROX. 05/02/12 WITH 26,014 MILES EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED, TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD AGAIN STEERING DAMPENER WAS BAD AND THEY REPLACED IT,THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A WHILE WITH JEEPS AND WAS CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". I HAVE NOW OPENED A NEW CASE WITH JEEP MANAGEMENT AGAIN FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM, 10/15/12 THE VEHICLE IS BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH 33,900 MILES WITH SAME PROBLEM. JEEP CASE MANAGEMENT SAYS THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE TIRES TO SEE IF THAT'S THE PROBLEM NOW,BUT REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE TIRES,CLAIMING THEY DON'T MAKE THE TIRES, EVEN THOUGH IF NOW THE TIRES ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM OF THEIR FRONT END PARTS BEING BAD CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TIRES. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO FORCE CHRYSLER INTO A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ANYONE ELSE HAS AN ACCIDENT OR DIES FROM. THIS JEEP HAS NEVER BEEN USED FOR ANY TYPE OF OFF ROADING, YET IT HAS A BURNT SMELL COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. I PURCHASED MY NEW 2010 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT UNLIMITED ON MARCH 02, 2011 WITH 4,839 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLES MANUFACTURER WARRANTY BECAME EFFECTIVE ON MARCH 02, 2011 AND EXTENDED TO 40,839 MILES. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE FOR THE SAME FRONT END PROBLEMS (VIBRATION, PLAY IN FRONT END, ETC - THOUGH DESCRIBED SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ON SOME WORK ORDERS) EIGHT (8) TIMES FROM OCTOBER 13, 2011 THROUGH JUNE 13, 2012. DURING THAT TIME THERE WERE FOUR (4) SERVICE ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM 10/13/11 MILEAGE 13,411 - 6/13/12 MILEAGE 23,352 - SERVICES RECOMMENDED AND PERFORMED RANGE FROM TIRE ROTATION, TIE RODS AND DAMPER REPLACED, TOE ADJUSTMENT, AND LOWER SHEARING SHAFT REPLACEMENT. 3/07/13 MILEAGE 34,829 - I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE NC INSPECTION. INSPECTION PASSED. 3/09/13 AS I TRAVELED OUT OF TOWN WITH MY CHILDREN WE EXPERIENCED A FRIGHTENING AND STRESSFUL TIME. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY, OR NEAR HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND GOING OVER A BUMP THE FRONT END WOULD BEGIN, AT RANDOM TIMES, TO HAVE SO MUCH PLAY AND THE STEERING WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. TRIED TO PUT OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITHOUT SUCCESS. TRIED A SECOND EXTINGUISHER WITH THE SAME RESULTS. GOT 90% OF MY STUFF OUT OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS LIFTED, WITH SKIP PLATES, WINCH. ON 9-2-211 WAS DRIVING HOME AND SMELT SOMETHING BURNING. PULLED OVER AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. UPON OPENING HOOD QUICKLY REALIZED IT WAS ON FIRE. IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES THE ENTIRE JEEP WAS IN FLAMES CAUSING TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND IT HAD NEVER BEEN WRECKED OR IN THE SHOP FOR EEED REPAIRS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED FROM FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,400 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,800.
THE VIN PROVIDED ABOVE IS THE LAST 8 DIGITS. THIS WAS A RENTAL CAR FROM NATIONAL RENTAL CAR. THE JEEP WRANGLER WE RENTED HAD A CONTITRAC AT TIRE IN THE LEFT REAR POSITION; ALL OTHER TIRES, INCLUDING SPARE ON BACK WERE GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES. THE CONTITRAC AT TIRE SUFFERED AN EXPLOSIVE BLOWOUT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL. THE ENTIRE TREAD BLEW OFF THE TIRE CARCASS, AND THE EXPLOSIVE FORCE CAUSED THE LEFT REAR FENDER TO BLOW OFF THE CAR. THERE WAS TIRE SHRAPNEL ALL OVER THE ROAD (HIGHWAY 17 SOUTHBOUND IN ARIZONA, NEAR JEROME STATE PARK), CAUSING CONSIDERABLE DANGER TO ALL VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. WE WERE ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE OUT-OF-CONTROL VEHICLE AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE CHANGED THE TIRE AND CONTINUED WITH OUR TRIP. NATIONAL RENTAL CAR IS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION, WHICH CAUSED $1,783.55 OF DAMAGE TO THEIR VEHICLE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY HELD NOT LIABLE, AND ARE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE.
WHEN REFUELING FUEL SPILLS OUT OF FILLING PORT ON VEHICLE. FUEL SPURTS OUT POTENTIALLY ONTO PERSON REFUELING VEHICLE OR ONTO VEHICLE AND GROUND. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS DURING DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES AND REFUELING CONDITIONS. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE NEEDED A NEW FUEL SYSTEM. THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
THE PASSENGER SEAT ON THE JEEP DOES NOT LOCK IN PLACE, WHEN YOU TRY TO ENTER THE BACK SEAT. THE PASSENGER NORMALLY WILL GRAB HOLD OF THE SEAT ON ENTRY, OR EXIT OF THE JEEP. IT IS USTABLE AND SLIDES AND CAUSES THE PASSENGER TO FALL OR STUMBLE OUT OF REAR SEAT. IT NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD AND LOCK. *KB

OUR DAUGHTER'S 2010 JEEP WRANGLER CAUGHT ON FIRE JUST AS SHE HAD PARKED IT IN HER UNDERGROUND PARKING GARAGE. SHE WAS SITTING IN THE CAR, LISTENING TO THE END OF A SONG, WHEN SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT OF THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THEN IS BURST INTO FLAMES. SHE JUMPED OUT AND RAN OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THEN CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND US. SHE HAD ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR A LITTLE OVER THREE MONTHS AND BOUGHT IT FROM HAMPTON IMPORTS NEAR DESTIN, FLORIDA. STATE FARM INVESTIGATED, AS WELL AS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. NEITHER COULD FIND A CAUSE. I CALLED CHRYSLER, BECAUSE I HAD READ THAT CHINA WAS NO LONGER ALLOWING THE WRANGLER IN THEIR COUNTRY DUE TO FIRE CONCERNS. THEY DID INVESTIGATE AND FOUND NO CAUSE. I WROTE A FOLLOW-UP LETTER TO THE CHRYSLER DIRECTOR OF CUSTOMER RELATIONS, ASKING IF THEY WERE INVESTIGATING THE SAFETY OF ALL OF THEIR JEEP WRANGLERS AND THEY NEVER REPLIED TO THE LETTER. *TR

BACK IN 2011, MY JEEP STARTED SPITTING GAS WHEN FILLING IT UP. AFTER THE GAS PUMP AUTO FILL STOPPED PUMPING GAS, IT SPIT FUEL BACK OUT AT ME. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING WITH JEEP DEALERS FREQUENTLY THINKING THAT A CHRYSLER RECALL WOULD COME OUT. THE LATEST TIME WAS THIS WEEK AND NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE DIFFERENT TIMES WHERE THE HEADLIGHT WIRES WERE RECONNECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL OUT OF THE GAS TANK, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. WHEN YOU HIT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH OR ABOVE AND HIT A SMALL BUMP, MY JEEP STARTS TO SHAKE. TOOK IT IN TO JEEP AND THEY STATED THAT IS IS CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE." CORRECT TERM IN THE WINTER, IN SNOW AND IN A JEEP. THIRD TIME IN THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THE ONLY CHANGE HAS BEEN THE STEERING STABILIZER WITHOUT SUCCESS. *TR
ON 6/17/2011 WE HAD OUR 2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON ON AN OFF-ROAD TRAIL IN 2WD. THE TRAIL CAN BE DESCRIBED AS MILD TERRAIN NOT REQUIRING 4WD FOR ANY PART OF THE TRAIL. APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES IN WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE, STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT AXLE HOUSING WAS CRACKED. CHRYSLER'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WOULD NOT RECOVER TEH VEHICLE FROM THE TRAIL SO WE GOT IT TO A MAINTAINED ROAD. SEVERAL DAYS LATER WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR JEEP DEALER FOR INSPECTION. WARRANTY WORK WAS DENIED ON THE BROKEN AXLE HOUSING DUE TO CHRYSLER'S DETERMINATION THAT WE TEH FAILURE OCCURRED DUE TO EXTREME OFF-ROADING. VERBALLY WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT WE WERE NOT USING THE VEHICLE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. WE SUBMITTED PHOTOS AND NARRATIVES OF SIMILIAR INCIDENTS (FRONT AXLE HOUSING BREAKS DURING DURING MILD OFF-ROAD DRIVING, AND ONE INSTANCE OF HITTING A CURB WITH THE TIRES). THESE WERE REGARDED AS INCIDENTS OF EXTREME OFF-ROADING AS WELL. SINCE THE BREAKAGE OCCURRED AFTER SEVERAL MILES OF TRAVEL ON MAINTAINED HIGHWAY, AND THEN APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES ON MILD OFF-ROAD TRAILS THAT DID NOT REQUIRE 4WD WE WILL REPLACE THE ENTIRE AXLE WITH AN AFTERMARKET PRODUCT THAT IS SIMILIAR IN COST. OUR CONCERN IS THAT AS WE RESEARCH ONLINE WE ARE FINDING SIMILIAR INCIDENTS UNDER SIMILIAR CONDITIONS - FRONT AXLE HOUSING BREAKS IN THE SAME LOCATION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS UNDER ONLY SLGHTLY HIGHER THAN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON 2007-2010 JEEP WRANGLER JK UNLIMITED RUBICONS. RUBICONS HAVE AN UPGRADED SUSPENSION SYSTEM FOR OFF-ROAD USE COMAPRED TO OTHER MODELS AND FEATURE A "TRAIL RATED" BADGE ON THE VEHICLE, BUT LIGHT OFF-ROAD USE CAUSED FAILURE IN OUR VEHICLE. *TT

DEALER DID SMOKE TEST AND FOUND LEAK AT THE EVAP CANISTER INSTALLED NEW VENT CANISTER. 08/04/2011. STILL SMELL FUEL FROM RIGHT REAR, DEALER DID SMOKE TEST FOUND NO LEAKS, BUT COULD SMELL FUEL VAPOR IN RIGHT REAR. STATED THAT WHEN OFF RODE FUEL MOVES MORE IN THE TANK AND THAT THE JEEP IS SAFE, AND NO FIX AT THIS TIME. HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE??. IF I WOULD STRIKE A MATCH IT WOULD EXPLODE AND LIFE COULD BE LOST.
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP I HAVE HIT SMALL BUMPS OR GRATES AND THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE HAS SHOOK VIOLENTLY. I ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND HAVE TO SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY TO REGAIN CONTROL. WHEN FILLING UP WITH GAS, IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF WHEN FULL. IT SHOOTS FUEL UP AND OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE SOAKING THE SIDE OF THE JEEP, THE BUMPER, THE FUEL FILLER WAND, AND ANYONE STANDING CLOSE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME FILLING TO FULL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT COVER DISLODGED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT WOULD BOUNCE UP AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING LIMITED ILLUMINATION OF THE ROADWAY AHEAD. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE BRACKET WHICH WOULD CONNECT THE CASING TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE YET THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,182 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,482.
