FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS UPON COMPLETE FILL, MAJOR PROBLEM IN MANY JEEP WRANGLERS OVER MUCH OF THEIR PRODUCTION SINCE 2007 EVIDENTLY. GASOLINE SPILLS OVER VEHICLE , PEOPLE AND GROUND UPON FILLING TANK. MAJOR SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. *TR
THE FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN DOING FILL UP EVERY TIME. IT HAPPENS AT ALL GAS STATIONS AND I NEVER TRY TO "TOP OFF" THE TANK. I DO NOT WANT A FIRE, SO MY CONCERN IS FOR MORE THAN MY RUINED SHOES AND DETERIORATING PAINT NEAR THE TANK. I HAVE READ OF MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AND IS YET UNRESOLVED. *TR
I DROVE MY 2010 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA UNLIMITED THROUGH WATER THAT WAS SITTING IN A PASTURE THAT HAD BEEN SHREDDED. 30 MINUTES LATER MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE DESIGN OF THE SKID PLATE ALLOWED THE GRASS THAT WAS FLOATING ON THE WATER TO BE PUSHED UNDER THE SKID PLATE AND AROUND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WITHIN 30 MINUTES THE GRASS DRIED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. I HAD 3 KIDS IN THE CAR ON OUR WAY BACK FROM A RODEO AND ENDED UP WATCHING MY JEEP BURN AT 1:00 IN THE MORNING. CHRYSLER WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND HAS DENIED MY CLAIM. THE BACK SKID PLATE HAS A LIP THAT DIPS DOWN AND ALLOWS THE POSSIBILITY OF DEBRIS TO BE SUCKED UP AROUND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE GAS LINE AND THE TRANSMISSION ARE RIGHT NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH IS DANGEROUS. MY CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS LUCKILY WE WERE ALL GOT OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT INJURY, I DO PLAN ON MAKING SURE THIS DANGER IS KNOWN SINCE CHRYSLER WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAW. *TR
WHEN FUELING UP THE GAS TANK THE FILLER TUBE VALVE WILL NOT STOP FUEL FROM OVERFLOWING AND SPILLING ALL OVER THE PLACE. OCCURS EVERY TIME WHEN FILLING UP. *JS
IN APRIL 2011, MY JEEP WENT IN FOR SERVICE AT HERB CHAMBERS. THERE WERE SAFETY RECALLS THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED AND I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN TO THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE ABOUT MY PARKING BRAKE BEING LOOSE AND NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE DIAGNOSIS I RECEIVED FROM THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE WAS THAT A MASSACHUSETTS REGISTERED SAFETY INSPECTOR EXAMINED MY PARKING BRAKE AND IT WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IN MAY 2011, APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE, I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN ITS PARKING SPOT AT MY HOUSE AND WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE FIVE MINUTES LATER IT HAD ROLLED INTO THE WOODS. WHEN THE JEEP ROLLED INTO THE WOODS IT HIT THREE TREES RESULTING IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FENDER RIPPING OFF. WHEN I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT JEEP THEY STATED I NEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD ASSIST ME WITH. A CLAIM WAS FILED THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND CHRYSLER COMPANY. CURRENTLY THE JEEP IS BEING REPAIRED THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I FEEL THAT ONCE THE BODY WORK IS COMPLETE ON MY JEEP THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF THE JEEP WILL STILL BE DEFECTIVE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WILL FAIL AGAIN AND COULD SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGE PROPERTY OR A BYSTANDER. CHRYSLER SENT OUT A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR, HANK SULLIVAN, WHO INSPECTED THE PARKING BRAKE. WHEN REQUESTED TO BE ON SITE OF HIS INVESTIGATION OF MY VEHICLE MY REQUESTED WAS DENIED. ONCE HIS INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETE I REQUESTED PAPERWORK TO VERIFY HE EXAMINED MY VEHICLE AND FOR A COPY OF THE RESULTS FOR MY OWN FILE, THAT REQUEST WAS ALSO DENIED. APPROXIMATELY A MONTH LATER, I AM STILL AWAITING A LETTER FROM CHRYSLER WITH DETAILS FROM HANK'S INVESTIGATION. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM CHRYSLER STATING THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN DISCRIMINATED AGAINST DUE TO MY AGE I LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES FOR THE SPECIAL CLAIMS DEPARTMENT AT CHRYSLER AND NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL BACK. ONLY ONCE I GOT ONE BACK. *TR
2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED: ROUGHLY 10 MONTHS INTO OWNING MY NEW JEEP I NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE SQUEALING. THIS WAS NOT NOTICEABLE WITH THE TOP ON AND MUSIC PLAYING SO I'M NOT SURE HOW LONG THEY HAD BEEN MAKING THE NOISE. I ASKED MY HUSBAND TO TAKE A LOOK AND HE SAID HE COULDN'T REPLICATE THE SQUEALING. WE FOUND IT DID NOT ALWAYS MAKE THE NOISE WHEN I BRAKED. I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL AND MENTIONED THE SQUEALING. THEY SAID POLLEN OR OTHER SMALL PARTICLES COULD SETTLE IN THEM AND CAUSE A TEMPORARY SQUEAK. AGAIN, WITH THE TOP ON AND MUSIC PLAYING I DIDN'T HEAR IT. RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING DOWNTOWN WITH MY WINDOWS DOWN AND COULD HEAR THE SHRILL SQUEAL EVERYTIME I HIT A LIGHT. HAVING ANOTHER RECALL TO ATTEND TO AND AN OVERFLOWING GAS TANK ISSUE TO ADDRESS, I DECIDED TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THE BRAKES. I HAD ALSO NOTICE THE RIDE HAD GOTTEN MUCH ROUGHER AND THE IDLE FELT SHAKY WHEN SITTING IN TRAFFIC. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED HE BELIEVED THERE WAS DEBRIS BETWEEN MY BRAKE PAD AND MY ROTOR WHICH CAUSED SIGNIFICANT PITTING IN THE ROTOR. THE PITTING WAS SO BAD THEY COULD NOT RESURFACE IT, BUT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. MY HUSBAND QUESTIONED THE LIKELIHOOD FOR SOMETHING TO GET LODGED BETWEEN THE BRAKE PAD AND THE ROTOR AND THE TECHNICIAN AGREED IT WAS UNCOMMON. THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, WAS THEY SAID THE SAME PHENOMENON OCCURRED ON BOTH REAR BRAKES. BOTH? SINCE THE WARRANTY ONLY ADDRESSED THE BRAKES IN THE FIRST YEAR / 12K MILES, HE EXPLAINED THIS WAS NOT COVERED AND I WOULD NEED BOTH ROTORS REPLACED AT FULL COST. *KB
ON APRIL 16TH, 2011 SEVERAL OF US DECIDED TO DO A MILD 4-WHEEL DRIVE TRIP TO A LOCAL WATERFALL. I WAS DRIVING A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON IN 4X4 LOW ON A DIRT ROAD. WE REACHED OUR DESTINATION AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US STOPPED AND EVERYONE GOT OUT AND STARTED TO GATHER THEIR STUFF FROM THE REAR OF THEIR JEEP. I STOPPED ROUGHLY 10 FT BEHIND THE FIRST VEHICLE ON A SLIGHT INCLINE (10% ANGLE) DOWNWARDS TOWARDS THE FIRST VEHICLE, PUT MY JEEP (AUTO TRANSMISSION) INTO PARK, AND TOOK OUT THE KEY. WE EXITED MY JEEP AND STARTED WALKING TOWARDS THE FIRST JEEP AS I APPROACHED MY FRONT TIRE, THE JEEP STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD AND IT MADE A RATCHETING NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE TYPE OF NOISE THAT IS MADE WHEN ONE WOULD PUT A MOVING VEHICLE INTO PARK. MY JEEP CRASHED INTO THE TAILGATE OF THE FIRST JEEP ALMOST CRUSHING MY FRIEND. FORTUNATELY MY JEEP HIT THE TAILGATE OF THE FIRST JEEP AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE AND THE DOOR WITHHELD THE FORCE OF MY JEEP CRASHING INTO HIS JEEP. TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX THE JEEP. I DROVE THE JEEP HOME AND WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES, AND WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE IT CONSISTENTLY IN ANOTHER 45 MINUTES TO AN HOUR.. I CREATED A VIDEO OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILING AND SENT IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE BY STOPPING ON A HILL WITH A PRETTY GOOD ANGLE AND CYCLE THROUGH THESE ACTIONS: PUT FOOT ON BRAKE, PUT JEEP IN DRIVE, DRIVE 2 INCHES, PUT FOOT ON BRAKE, PUT JEEP IN PARK, AND RELEASE BRAKE. AT THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP HAS SENT THE VIDEO TO CORPORATE AND AWAITING DIRECTION. NO CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN PERFORMED. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT, WHICH OCCURRED IN MARCH 2011, TWO (2) VALVE STEMS DEVELOPED AIR LEAKS DUE TO RUST. THEY WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ON MARCH 21, 2011, ONE (1) VALVE STEM DEVELOPED AN AIR LEAK CAUSED BY A CRACK IN THE VALVE STEM. THE STEM WAS REPLACED BY A JEEP DEALERSHIP AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY. THE NEW VALVE STEM HAS A BLACK RUBBER COATING WHERE AS THE OTHER 4 STEMS DO NOT.. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 17200 MILES AND MY FEAR IS THAT MY WIFE OR MYSELF MAYBE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ANOTHER VALVE STEM FAILS CAUSING A BLOWOUT AND THEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT MAYBE CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TO JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AT AN 800 NUMBER BUT THEY SAY NOTHING WILL BE DONE TO REPLACE THE 4 VALVE STEMS THAT DO NOT HAVE A RUBBER COATING. IT IS OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES IN THE PAST, THAT THE VALVE STEMS ARE BEING MADE DIFFERENTLY NOW. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE THERE IS A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
JEEP WRANGLER 2DR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ENGINE HOOD FLUTTERS. *TR
UNIDENTIFIED NOISE FROM TRANSMISSION. DEALER FOUND BROKEN SPRING ON CLUTCH PLATE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM. ONLY INDICATING THAT THE CLUTCH IS A "WEARABLE PART". DEALERSHIP INDICATES COULD HAVE CAUSED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. CHECKED WITH 7 OTHER DEALERSHIPS AND NO ONE HAS SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM IN THEIR SHOPS. *TR
JEEP 2010 WRANGLER UNLIMITED MANUAL TRANSMISSION POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHEN ENGAGING FROM STOP . THE ISSUE IS RANDOM AND THUS DEALERSHIPS AND CHRSYLER REPRESTATIVES WILL NO HELP SINCE THEY SAY THEY CAN'T REPRODUCE ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND I NOTIFIED CHRYSLER. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED IN TSB 21-001-10 AND HAS GONE BACK TO MODEL YR 2007 AND STILL NO PERMANENT SOLUTION. I HAD TO SHOW DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER TSB BEFORE THEY WOULD EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE. CONSEQUENCES ARE LIFE THREATNING. VEHICLE WAS ALMOST T-ED AT INTERSECTION TAKING LEFT ACROSS SEVERAL LANES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND ASK OF A SUDDEN MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD HEAR A CLANK/CLUNK IN STEERING COLUMN. ALSO HORN NOR CRUISE CONTROL WOULD WORK. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CLOCKSPRING THE NEXT DAY. NO REASON WHY. JUST STATED THEY GO OUT. MINE WENT OUT AT 20XXX MILES!!! NO RECALL!! *TR
ON THE FIRST DAY JEEP GAVE ME MY NEW TRUCK I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION TO FILL UP THE TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME. WHEN THE TANK FILLED UP, IT SPILLED FUEL ALL OVER THE GROUND , TRUCK AND GAS STATION PERSONNEL WHO WAS REFUELING THE TRUCK ( THERE IS PERSONNEL IN CHARGE OF REFUELING IN GAS STATIONS IN MY COUNTRY : PERU SOUTHAMERICA ) MY 2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED 4 DR WAS BOUGHT ON THIS FEBRUARY OF 2011 , AND KEEPS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM . MY CONCERN IS THAT SINCE MY TRUCK IS NOT ON THE U.S TERRITORY ( BUT MANUFACTURED ON THE U.S ) JEEP ON MY COUNTRY WILL TRY TO AVOID TAKING CARE OF MANY OF THE RECALLS BEEN MADE ALREADY TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM , WHICH I HAVE READ AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. IS EVERY JEEP DEALER ( EVEN OUTSIDE U.S ) OBLIGATED TO CALL HIS JEEP WRANGLER CUSTOMERS FOR RECALLS ???..... CAUSE THEY HAVE NOT TOLD ME ANYTHING YET ABOUT EVERYTHING WRITTEN ON THE WEB. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE EXCESSIVELY AND LOSE POWER ABNORMALLY WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF EVERY WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST CONCLUDING THAT THE PCM HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ON A LATER DATE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE 15 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED AN UNUSUAL BURNING OR SMOKE ODOR AS THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PCM FAILED A SECOND TIME AND BLOWN A FUSE. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, BECAUSE THE CONTACT HAD ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS HE WANTED A REPLACEMENT BUT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 184 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172.
WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY, MY JEEP JUMPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHILE ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A STOP. EVEN WITH MY HAND ON THE SHIFT LEVER, HOLDING MY VEHICLE IN FIRST GEAR, IT WILL AT TIMES JUMP OUT OF GEAR WITH A VIOLENT METAL-ON-METAL COLLISION SOUND. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN CROSSING OR JOINING TRAFFIC AT AN INTERSECTION, AND IS VERY DANGEROUS.
MY VEHICLE POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR INTERMITTENTLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY OF 2010. ON-LINE RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND WILL NOT BE ADDRESSED BY THE DEALERSHIP UNLESS IT CAN BE REPRODUCED WHILE THEY ARE IN THE VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN RESULT IN BEING REAR ENDED BY AND UNSUSPECTING DRIVER OR BEING STRANDED IN A LANE CROSSING TRAFFIC WITHOUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT WON'T REMAIN SECURE IN DRIVE. IF IT'S DISTRIBUTED IN ANY WAY IT GETS KNOCKED OUT OF DRIVE EVEN WHILE MOVING. ON ALL ROADWAYS ALL DIRECTIONS. *TR
MY 2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON STOCK GAS TANK OVERFILLS AT THE PUMP! YOU SET THE PUMP HANDLE TO STAY UNTIL IT IS SWITCHED OFF, AND WHEN IT SWITCHES OFF A GOOD AMOUNT OF GAS POURS OUT OF THE CAP. *TR
MAIN ISSUE - DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD HIT A BUMP/UNEVEN PATCH OF ROAD AND THE CAR SHIMMERS/JERKS/WOBBLES BACK AND FORTH PROVIDING A FEELING OF LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HONESTLY, I HAVE NOTICED THE SHIMMERING/WOBBLING/JERKING SINCE THE FIRST BUMP I WENT OVER WITH THE JEEP WRANGLER. I THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL FOR JEEP AS THIS IS MY FIRST JEEP WRANGLER I HAVE OWNED. I EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TO REMOVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES (MORE OFF ROAD) AND GET ALL AROUND TIRES RECOMMENDED BY THE JEEP DEALER PER MY PRIVATE CAR MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST. THIS STILL DID NOT HELP. I HAVE THIS UNEASINESS WHEN DRIVING THE JEEP. I HAVE LEARNED TO BRACE MYSELF WHEN I NOTICE ROUGH/UNEVEN ROAD AHEAD. WHILE TRAVELING NORTHERN MICHIGAN (I-75) I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD (THE ROAD WAS PARTIALLY COVERED WITH SNOW), THE JEEP JERKED/SHIMMERED - I SPUN OUT OF CONTROL SAID A FEW PRAYERS AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE JEEP BACK UNDER CONTROL WITHOUT FLIPPING. I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY FOR ALMOST A HALF HOUR BEFORE I HAD THE COURAGE TO CONTINUE MY JOURNEY. MY YOUNGER ADULT CHILDREN AND HUSBAND DO NOT LIKE TO DRIVE MY JEEP BECAUSE OF THIS WOBBLE/JERKY EXPERIENCE AFTER A BUMP/EVEN ROAD. THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER LIMITED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE CONTACT SMELLED SMOKE IN THE VEHICLE, PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY AND STEPPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. A POLICE OFFICER ARRIVED BUT DID NOT FILE A REPORT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ALSO DID NOT FILE A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY PERFORMED AN INVESTIGATION AND DENIED THE CLAIM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
THE 2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED HAD BEEN DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND FOR THE TEN MINUTES PRIOR TO THE STOP AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE HAD BEEN DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE DRIVER STOPPED AT A CONVENIENCE STORE FOR 5 MINUTES, PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, AND APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES LATER THE JEEP HAD FLAMES SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO GET INTO AN EMPTY PARKING LOT BEFORE THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH NO SUCCESS. THE JEEP WAS A COMPLETE LOSS AT APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES. THE ONLY UNUSUAL BEHAVIOR NOTED BEFORE THE FIRE WAS THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE ON 2 OCCASIONS. THE JEEP WAS SCHEDULED TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM BUT THEN BURNED TO THE GROUND. INVESTIGATION FROM THE CHRYSLER REP AND THE INSURANCE REP DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DUE TO "DEBRIS AROUND THE TRANSMISSION". *TR

TAKATA RECALL - I HAVE OWNED THE JEEP NEW SINCE MARCH 2010. NOVEMBER 2010 I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT THAT DID APPROXIMATELY $16,000 WORK ON DAMAGES. AFTER TRAVERSING A NATIONAL FOREST SERVICE ROAD LEAVES COLLECTED BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION SKID PLATE AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS I WAS FLAGGED DOWN BY ANOTHER CAR TO INFORM ME THAT SPARKS WERE COMING FROM UNDER MY JEEP. LUCKILY THIS WAS AT NIGHT WHEN THE SPARKS COULD BE SEEN. A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON CAUGHT ON FIRE ONLY 10,000 MILES. WE WERE RIDING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE RPM'S WENT TO ZERO. ABOUT EVERY 100 MILES OR SO AFTER THAT INCIDENT, IT WILL POP OUT OF 1ST GEAR INTO NEUTRAL - OR - GRIND GEARS. AFTER DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR APPROX. 40 MILES I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT. I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO START SLOWING DOWN AND PROCEED TO GET INTO THE EXIT LANE. ONCE IN THE EXIT LANE I TRIED TO APPLY MORE BRAKE PRESSURE TO SLOW DOWN FASTER, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL SLOWLY TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I MANAGED TO GET BACK ON TO THE FREEWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT AND ONTO A BREAKDOWN LANE TO SLOW DOWN. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AGAIN, AND AFTER APPLYING A MODERATE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUED TO TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR. USING ONLY MODERATE BRAKE PRESSURE I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE AND STOP. ANY MORE THAN MODERATE PRESSURE WOULD CAUSE THE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR. I CHECKED MY BRAKE FLUID LEVEL, AND IT WAS STILL AT THE MAX LEVEL, SO I PROCEEDED TO PUMP MY BREAKS TO TRY AND LOCATE A LEAK. THERE WERE NO LEAKS AND THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL DID NOT GO DOWN. I SLOWLY CONTINUED HOME KNOWING THAT I HAD LIMITED BRAKING ABILITY. AT HOME I INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AGAIN, AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID LOSS. I OPENED THE BRAKE FLUID CONTAINER AND INSPECTED THE FLUID LEVEL, THE FLUID LEVEL WAS AT THE MAX MARK, BUT I NOTICED SMALL BLACK PARTICLES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER. I CALLED THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND DESCRIBED THE INCIDENT. THEY PICKED UP MY VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. *TR

THE HORN AND HORN BUTTON WERE REPLACED AS WELL BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE HORN WAS RUN THROUGH THE RADIO WHICH CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL WIRING PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 33,000.

THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO DO SO WHILE THEY HAD IT IN THEIR POSSESSION. WITHIN THE LAST TWO (2) MONTHS IT HAS GOTTEN TO BE NOT ONLY AN ANNOYANCE, BUT A SAFETY ISSUE. SAFETY IN THAT PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC BECOMES AN "ADVENTURE." THERE IS NO CONFIDENCE THAT IT WILL NOT POP-OUT LEAVING THE VEHICLE MOMENTARILY IN A STALLED CONDITION WITH APPROACHING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ONE WEEK AGO IT WAS TAKEN AGAIN TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER. WARRANTY EXPIRED THIS PAST APRIL.
