TO: USAA Claims Department; Jaguar Land Rover North America Customer Care CC: Jaguar Land Rover Parsippany; Jaguar Land Rover Glen Cove; Jaguar Land Rover Freeport I am writing to formally report a serious safety hazard involving my 2015 Range Rover Sport and to request immediate intervention. Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2015 Range Rover Sport VIN: [XXX] Current Mileage: Approximately 127,000+ I purchased this vehicle in 2015 from Jaguar Land Rover Parsippany, New Jersey, and have consistently maintained it through authorized Jaguar Land Rover service providers. Since as early as 2017, I have reported recurring engine, throttle, and coolant-related issues. As documented in my prior complaint to Land Rover corporate dated April 2017, I raised concerns regarding service integrity and handling of my vehicle (Exhibit A). In September 2017, I reported that the vehicle would not accelerate properly, required restarting to function, and exhibited drive mode and throttle issues (Exhibit B). By 2021, Jaguar Land Rover Glen Cove service records confirmed coolant leakage from engine cross-over pipes, repeated low coolant warnings, and engine-related concerns requiring repair (Exhibit C). Additional diagnostics identified check engine light activation, restricted performance mode, and recommended repairs that were not resolved (Exhibit D). Despite these documented findings, the vehicle was repeatedly returned to me without full resolution of the underlying mechanical defects. On January 22, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover Freeport documented that repairs could not be performed due to “pre-existing engine codes” and identified the need for a potential engine replacement exceeding $42,000 (Exhibit E). At no point was I clearly advised that the vehicle was unsafe to operate or that continued use could pose a serious safety risk. I was not instructed to discontinue driving the vehicle. While inspecting my vehicle, I discovered a crack on the driver’s side steering knuckle. I’ve learned that NHTSA Recall 24V-840 was issued for this exact issue on full-size Range Rovers. However, the same problem has occurred on my Range Rover Sport (L494), in the identical location. The affected part numbers are LR146347 (front left) and LR146346 (front right), which match those referenced in the existing recall. This is a serious safety concern—I am currently unable to drive the vehicle due to the risk. I’ve attached two photos for reference. One clearly shows a linear crack near the bolt. In the other, you can see the factory-applied green alignment marker is now offset, further indicating a structural failure. I am requesting that a case be opened to investigate including Range Rover Sport (L494) models in this recall. NHTSA Recall: 24V-840 Transport Canada Recall: 2022668 - Land Rover

The contact called on behalf of his daughter whom owns a 2015 land Rover Ranger Rover. The contact stated that his daughter brought her vehicle to a local dealer for service where the contact was advised that her vehicle was not drivable due to the knuckle being cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact had not experienced a failure. The contact stated that the symptoms experienced relate to those of NHTSA campaign number 24V840000 (STEERING) However her vehicle was not included in a recall.
Both front knuckles found to have cracks in the aluminum casting where the upper control arm mounts to the knuckles. Failure of this portion of the knuckle will result in complete loss of control of the car. This problem is well documented in other L494 and L405 Range Rovers with recalls currently active in other countries where these car were sold. The components have not been inspected by 3rd party as of yet due to safety concerns with transporting the vehicle to locations. No warning lamps or noises were present as there is no way for the vehicle to detect this failure which only occurs catastrophically without warning. Photos attached are of both knuckles with cracks.
The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Both the right and left suspension knuckles were cracked. This represented a potentially very dangerous situation if either knuckle had broken at high speed.
The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while making right turns on several occasions, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering knuckle had cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
My car has manufacturer defect / crack on steering knuckle. There has been recall in UK and Canada. Why not in states? Driving with crack / defect in steering knuckle is extremely dangerous. It has been proven that this has caused by over tightening the nut bolt. There are so many land rovers have this reported issues. Subject: Recall Complaint – Complaint No. 24V840000 / Land Rover Recall N759 Vehicle Information: 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Issue Description: I discovered a crack in the passenger-side steering knuckle of my vehicle, caused by a manufacturing defect where the bolt was over-torqued. This defect risks catastrophic steering failure, potentially leading to a severe accident. While this issue is part of a recall in Canada and similar recalls for other Land Rover models (Discovery Sport, Evoque) exist in the U.S., my vehicle has not been included in the U.S. recall. Service Attempt: Land Rover of Huntington refused to honor the recall, citing my VIN’s exclusion, and quoted over $9,000 for repairs. I escalated the issue to Rey Rodriguez, an executive specialist with Land Rover North America, but was told: "You have reached the highest level within Land Rover North America... your VIN is not part of the recall, and no further reconsideration will occur." Safety Concern: This defect can go unnoticed, putting drivers at risk of steering failure and fatal accidents. Land Rover's refusal to address this known safety issue endangers consumers. Request: I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter and include the 2015 Range Rover Sport in the recall to ensure driver safety. Attachments: Supporting documents are provided.
NOTIFIED OF RECALL AND THAT REAR RIGHT DOOR MAY OPEN WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. TOOK IT IN TO LAND ROVER AND LAND ROVER REJECTED AND FAILED TO COMPLETE AND FINISH RECALL AT LAND ROVER OF LYNNWOOD.
I replaced a dead battery after trying to jump start or charge. while doing so I noticed a strong odor of gas. I noticed of large damp spot on the ground. Later I moved the car and a companion looked under the car and noticed gas streaming underneath when I started the car. This was dangerous situation and a large amount of gas. Had a spark occurred when I was working on the battery the explosion would have destroyed the car and injured anyone near... Recall N23 addresses the same issue defective fuel tank yet range rover customer service said the vin is not listed on recall. Mechanic states he has had to repair replace gas tank on these vehicle numerous times.reference your campaign 21V635
I was driving my 2015 Range Rover Sport, when a low battery symbol displayed on the dashboard. I drove 3 miles away to go to AutoZone to buy a new battery and as I parked the vehicle, I noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. My brother and I ran inside of AutoZone and asked them if they had a fire extinguisher because my car had a little fire on the driver’s side of the engine. I got AAA to tow my vehicle into the Land Rover dealership/Maintenance repair shop. The repair specialist I’m assigned to (Sam Haidary) at the Land Rover location in Freeport, Long Island NY, told me that the fire issue with the vehicle didn’t come from the alternator or the weak battery, so I did some research online because I personally know someone that went through this same issue (i.e. Range Rover Sport catching on fire with no warning) as I just went through. I came across this article that’s addressing the same exact issue (the engine catching fire) that happened to my 2015 Range Rover Sport. Here’s the article: [XXX] I purchased my vehicle on February 2021 and every year I bring it to the Land Rover Range Rover for repairs and upkeep 2-3 times per year. I don’t know why this is happening but from reading that article it’s apparently obvious that the same issue has happened to my vehicle. turning the corner door coming open. good thing my child had his seat belt on. brakes. has been making noise since i purchase the vehicle. but stated brake are ok but don't trust brakes making loud noise
The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that the vehicle failed the state inspection due to the air bag warning light being illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the driver's side air bag wiring harness was too short, causing the air bag warning light to illuminate. The dealer replaced the driver's side air bag wiring. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,679.
While driving home on the evening of June 27, 2023, a distance of about 15 miles, the low coolant light suddenly came on, and as we tried pulling over on the next freeway exit, the engine appeared to seize and cut out. It was difficult to brake and steer the car and we were nervous to get in an accident. We came to a rest off the freeway and then officers helped us push our car into a nearby Auto Zone. We left it there overnight to rest and when we came back the next day, the engine would not start. Had it towed to a nearby independent service center where they determined both engine heads had blown. The car is available for inspection. I have called the manufacturer to see if there were any recalls related to this and found a P055 recall for this model. The description in this recall is very similar to what we experienced.
The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she smelled an abnormal fuel odor throughout the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank assembly was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
CAR BURNED DOWN STARTED SMOKING FROM ENGINE AS I WAS DRIVING ON TURNPIKE TOWARDS ORLANDO, FL
The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and turned off, the rear liftgate inadvertently opened, causing the alarm system to be activated. The contact disconnected the battery to deactivate the alarm system. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 100,100.
Rear driver side door opened while the vehicle was in motion. The original recall of this issue was reportedly completed in 2016 (this was prior to me owning the vehicle). The same door now has issues unlocking. The safety concern is the potential of my child in the backseat having an open door while the car is driving or being unable to open the door to get my child out of the car in an emergency. The problem of unlatching while in motion was part of previous recall and my local dealership confirmed the vehicle underwent the recall and correction on 02/25/2016. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms were identified prior to the issue. The door unlatching while in motion occurred one time in the summer of 2022. The inability to unlock and open the same door occurs several times per week without a known consistent pattern of when it may occur. This began in approximately November of 2022 and continues to occur.
Door latch came unlatched while driving.
My 2015 Supercharged Range Rover Sport 5.0L V8 has unexpected rhythmic body movements while stationary. One side goes up and down then the other side goes up and down. This repeats every few seconds the whole ride, obviously more noticeable when stopped. You don't know if the dynamic system is working or not. It can push your car further in to the turn when it does it on a turn. If you are used to the dynamic system you may not be prepared for this issue especially since you don't know it is not working properly. This problem is reproducible, it does it every time I start my vehicle. There were no warning signs or lights that alert you that there is even an issue. It scares people who are not expecting the jolt when riding inside. More seriously it is a huge lawsuit waiting to happen because it is a tripping hazard when getting into the vehicle or out of the vehicle. It has the chance to raise up or down the moment you go to get in or raise and lower when stepping out. This is dangerous for anyone. Especially the handicap or elderly, they can easily miscalculate the height and cause them to lose balance, considering the whole car becomes unstable at the same time. There was already a Land Rover Technical bulletin posted about this possible issue with 2014-15.My car exhibits this exact problem. My car isn't within that vin range. However, it's doing the same thing thats listed here, maybe there are more vehicles involved than they originally thought? I have a video to share, contact me for it since I cant share on here. This is what the land rover technical bulletin said: Situation: A potential issue has been identified with the Dynamic Response valve block on certain 2014-2015 Range Rover Sport (L494) and Range Rover (L405) vehicles (5.0L S/C V8 only) within the listed VIN ranges. Unexpected body movements when the vehicle is stationary may be experienced due to the system self-test pulse resulting in pressure in the actuators which is normally isolate from them.
I agree with another poster about an issue. We experience this too with our 15' Range Rover Sport supercharged V8 5.0L Dynamic vehicle. There is a dangerous lag in the accelerator when starting from a stop, or a low speed turn. It happens every time I stop or when turning a corner. It is most dangerous when pulling out of a parking lot or cross street when oncoming traffic is coming and you need the car to respond accurately to your gas pedal input. Instead, the vehicle does nothing for 1-1. 5 seconds, then lurches forward. With a V8 510 HP engine thats quite a huge difference in jolt. It makes it extremely hard to gage appropriate pedal pressure. This creates a very dangerous situation when you commit to pull into traffic, hit the gas pedal, and the vehicle doesn't actually move until the delay. I'm sure it looks to on coming traffic as if I stalled in front of them. It's only noticeable at low speed or rolling stops.
Overnight, my car dumped all of my fuel onto the garage floor beneath my car.
Passenger right front door will not latch shut.
My forward collision warning alert frequently goes off unnecessarily but this is not a big deal. However, recently it went off and partially applied the brakes. This should not have occurred and could have been a very big safety issue.
WAS STATIONARY WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT A STOP LIGHT. TRUCK ACCELERATED WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND JERKED THE VEHICLE FORWARD. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT. WHILE DRIVING 10-15 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR UNLOCKED AND FAILED TO LATCH SECURELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. LAND ROVER JACKSONVILLE (11217 ATLANTIC BLVD #1, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32225, (877) 786-3551) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V392000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
Blind spot system has not worked since automobile purchase in 02/27/2019. Dealer refuses to repair. Car was under a recall reference TSB No. Q470. All system inoperable.
DOOR LATCH FAILURE. DRIVER DOOR LATCH FAILED AND WAS REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2018. WE REQUESTED CHANGE OF ALL LATCHES AS THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED ON DOOR LATCH FAILURE. RANGE ROVER DENIED AND SAID THE OTHER LATCHES WILL NOT FAIL. OUR PASSENGER FRONT LATCH FAILED AND THE DOOR HAD TO BE HELD CLOSED BY HAND TO DRIVE IN JAN 2019. REQUESTED RANGE ROVER TO REPLACE ALL DOOR LATCHES AGAIN AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE REAR LATCHES AS THEY HAVE NOT YET FAILED. TO AVOID COMPROMISING SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN, WE ARE PAYING OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THOSE LATCHES. LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA REPEATEDLY REFUSED OUR REQUEST DESPITE TALKING TO MULTIPLE CASE MANAGERS AND A SUPERVISOR.
THERE IS A DANGEROUS LAG IN THE ACCELERATOR WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP, OR A LOW SPEED TURN. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I COME TO A QUICK STOP AT A SIGN OR WHEN TURNING A SLOW SPEED CORNER.. IT IS MOST DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT OR CROSS STREET WHEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC IS COMING AND YOU NEED THE CAR TO RESPOND ACCURATELY TO YOUR GAS PEDAL INPUT. INSTEAD, THE VEHICLE DOES NOTHING FOR 1-1.5 SECONDS, THEN LURCHES FORWARD. THIS CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN YOU COMMIT TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC, HIT THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE VEHICLE DOESN'T ACTUALLY MOVE UNTIL THE DELAY. I'M SURE IT SEEMS TO APPROACHING TRAFFIC AS IF I STALLED IN FRONT OF THEM. IT IS REALLY ONLY NOTICEABLE AT LOW SPEED OR ROLLING STARTS.
The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The engine failure was intermittent but was a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to several dealers. The dealers diagnosed the vehicle and recommended repairs, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failures and filed complaints, but the contact was advised to work with the dealers. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V514000 (Steering); but was informed by dealers and the manufacturer that parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that recently, while driving and turning left or right, there was an abnormal creaking and cracking sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED A STRESS CRACK IN THEIR LAND ROVER'S WINDSHIELD. WE HAVE HAD TWO LAND ROVER SPORTS, 2013 AND 2015, AND BOTH HAVE HAD STRESS FRACTURES FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT RESULTED IN HUGE CRACKS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AND SIDE TO SIDE IN THE COURSE OF ONE DAY THAT ARE EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THE PEOPLE AT OUR LAND ROVER DEALERSHIP HAD A REP FROM A-1AUTO GLASS IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS LOOK AT IT WHILE HE WAS THERE. HE SAID THAT THERE WAS A BREAK AT THE TOP AND SURMISED THAT IT WAS FROM A ROCK. HOWEVER, THE CAR WASN'T DRIVEN AND HAD BEEN PARKED IN OUR HOUSE MILES AND MILES FROM ANY ROAD TRAFFIC. THOUGH I UNDERSTAND THAT CRACKS CAN OCCUR OVER TIME, WE HAVE A COMPARISON--FORTUNATELY OR UNFORTUNATELY-- OF AN ACTUAL ROCK CHIP RIGHT ON THE WINDSHIELD AND THE RESULT IS WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT, A CENTRAL STRIKE WITH RADIATING LINES AND A DISCERNIBLE POINT OF IMPACT. HAVING THE SAME STRESS FRACTURE AT THE EXACT SAME PLACE ON NOT ONE, BUT TWO LAND ROVERS IS REALLY BEYOND COINCIDENCE. FORGET THAT THESE WINDSHIELDS COST $1400 TO REPLACE. THE FACT THAT A STRIKE THAT WAS APPARENTLY SO TINY THAT A PICTURE HAD TO BE TAKEN AND ENLARGED TO FIND THE POINT OF IMPACT WOULD CREATE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS A COMPLETE BISECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD FROM SIDE TO SIDE IS UNCANNY. NOT ON ONE CAR. BUT ON TWO CARS OF THE SAME MODEL LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT ON THESE WINDSHIELDS THAT RENDERS THEM VERY UNSAFE. WE ARE HAVING IT LOOKED AT INDEPENDENTLY AND WILL UPLOAD PICTURES AND VIDEO FROM THOSE INTERVIEWS HERE.
WITHIN THE FIRST WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP FAILED TO REENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION AFTER THE ECO FEATURE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. ECO FEATURE TURNS THE CAR OFF WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC OR A STOP SIGNAL TO SAVE FUEL ETC. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND TO GAS PEDAL BEING PUSHED AND THE CAR DOES NOT GO. THE CAR HAS TO BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE. THIS TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS TO DO AND CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.I HAVE CONTACTED THE SALESMAN AT THE DEALERSHIP AND HE SAID HE HAS HEARD THIS HAPPEN TO OTHERS BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE A FIX YET.
THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP FAILED TO REENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION AFTER THE ECO FEATURE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. ECO FEATURE TURNS THE CAR OFF WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC OR A STOP SIGNAL TO SAVE FUEL ETC. THE DASH BOARD AND GEAR SHIFTER DISPLAYED A FLASHING D': INDICATING A FAILURE OF THE TRANSMSSION. (VIDEO AVAILABLE) WHEN THIS OCCURES THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND TO GAS PEDEL BEING PUSHED AND THE CAR DOES NOT GO. THE CAR HAS TO BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO GET THE TRANMISSION TO ENGAGE. TRAFFIC HAS TO GO AROUND THE CAR, CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLE LIFE THREATENING SITUATION.
THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP FAILED TO OPERATE WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. AFTER BEING STOPPED, THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE SEEMED TO MALFUNCTION AND THE CAR WAS STUCK ON THE FREEWAY WITH TRAFFIC MOVING AROUND THE CAR, CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE VIN WAS PART OF A GROUP OF VINS THAT RECEIVED BAD SOFTWARE THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND IT WAS ULTIMATELY TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO EXPERIENCED CERTAIN ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTING ON THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP. *TR
THE AUTOMATED PARKING FEATURE ON THE CAR DOES NOT WORK. OUR VEHICLE WENT UP ON A CURB AND ALMOST HIT A CAR AND A TREE WHEN WE TRIED USING THIS FEATURE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, ALL OTHER 2015 MODELS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, AND THE MANUFACTURER IS LOOKING INTO A FIX. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
THE FUEL SYSTEM OF THE 2015 RANGE ROVER SPORT DOES NOT ALLOW THE USER TO APPROPRIATELY FILL THE GAS TANK WITH FUEL WITHOUT THE PUMP SHUTTING OFF AFTER JUST EVERY COUPLE OF GALLONS. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW THAT THE TANK IS FULL WITHOUT FILLING THE TANK TO THE POINT THAT GAS SPILLS OUT NECK OF THE GAS TANK. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THE PROBLEM. LAND ROVER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE FUEL TANK AND THEY HAVE REPRODUCED THE PROBLEM EVER TIME THEY HAVE TESTED IT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY AS WELL AS ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE IS NOT ABLE TO FILL THE TANK WITHOUT MANY RESETS OF THE PUMP AND ULTIMATELY SPILLING FUEL TO KNOW THAT THE TANK IS FULL. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CASE TO LAND ROVER CORPORATE OFFICES AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE BUT SAID THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT AT THIS TIME. *TR
