TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A LETTER DATED MAY 23, 2016 INDICATING THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR ON MY 2008 LEXUS ES 350 NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I LIVE IN ZONE A, THE HIGHEST RISK AREA. I HAVE CALLED THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST 10 MONTHS TO MY LOCAL LEXUS DEALERS, AND THEIR RESPONSE HAS BEEN "WE HAVE RECEIVED ONLY A FEW PARTS SO FAR." "YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN THERE ARE MORE PARTS IN." MY WIFE AND I HAVE JUST THIS ONE CAR, AND HAVING ONE OF US SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT EACH TIME WE DRIVE THE CAR FOR THE LAST 10 MONTHS HAS BEEN VERY DIFFICULT. WE ARE BOTH SENIORS. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HAVE ONE OF THE LOCAL DEALERS IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY REPLACE THE AIRBAG VERY SOON. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP ON THIS.
TAKATA RECALL - I WAS CONTACTED BY THE CAR DEALERSHIP ON MAY 23, 2016, THAT OUR CAR HAD DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS AND WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN A REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE. AFTER SEVEN MONTHS OF WAITING TO HEAR WHEN THE REMEDY WOULD BE AVAILABLE, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ON NOV.01,2016, TO INQUIRE WHEN THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED. THE ANSWER WAS "WE DON'T KNOW, BUT WE THINK PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN LATE DECEMBER 2016. I HAVE READ THAT SOME 90% OF HONDA CARS WITH THE SAME AIRBAG PROBLEM,HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. SEVEN MONTHS OF HAVING TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE LEXUS PRODUCT SEEMS TOTALLY EXCESSIVE AND IRRESPONSIBLE. MORE ACCURATE FIX DATES AND ALTERNATIVES SHOULD BE PROVIDED TO THE VEHICLE OWNER BY THE DEALERSHIP.
LEXUS WILL NOT REPLACE THE RECALLED TAKATA AIR BAGS ANS REFUSES TO SEND THE EQUIPMENT TO THE DEALERSHIP PUTTING MY FAMILY AT RISK FOR INJURY OR DEATH
TAKATA RECALL, IT HAS FIVE MONTHS SINCE I RECEIVED THE RECALL REGARDING THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. I HAVE NOT SEEN NOR READ ABOUT ANY PROGRESS UPDATE ON GETTING THIS RESOLVED.
TAKATA RECALL: RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN MAY 2016. TOLD NOT TO USE PASSENGER SEAT AND IT IS NOW NOVEMBER 22, 2016 WITH NO "REMEDY" AVAILABLE YET. I BLAME TAKATA BUT AM VERY FRUSTRATED THAT THIS VERY SERIOUS RECALL HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED YET. I DON'T LET ANYONE SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND WE ARE IN TEXAS AND SUPPOSEDLY GOING TO BE IN THE FIRST GROUP RECEIVING THE FIX.

Dear Sir/Madam, Our Lexus ES350 2008 has front panel melting and cracking. The melting plastic could emit hazardous fumes with health risk to driver and passengers. This melting panel looks awful, it dramatically decreases value of the car. We found this ZLZ program online below. But unfortunately it expired. We never received the ZLZ notice even though Lexus had our contact info (This is based on the fact that they sent us numerous letters on the air bag recalls.) https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10145764-9999.pdf We called Lexus, they admit it was due to defective material but unwilling to do anything for us. Apparently they treat recalls very seriously but try to do minimum for this defective plastic panel issue. Many people have similar complaints here below https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2017/toyota-lexus-melting-dashboard-lawsuit.shtml We sincerely request NHTSA to review this Lexus front panel melting and cracking issue again. All Lexus owners with this defective material issue should get full repair by manufacturer without limitation. I PURCHASED THE LEXUS 3/2016 AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING MEDICAL PROBLEMS FROM THE MOLD/MILDEW AND TOXIC ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE THAT WAS SPRAYED ON THE HVAC BY LEXUS TO KILL THE MOLD ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE DOCTOR SINCE 7/2016 FOR ILLNESS THAT STARTED OUT WITH TIGHTENING OF THE THROAT AND TONGUE, FREQUENT URINATION AND VERY YELLOW, DIFFICULTY BREATHING, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE 130/80 BEFORE I PURCHASED CAR MY BLOOD PRESSURE WAS 120/60, BLURRED VISION, METALLIC TASTE ON MY TONGUE AND BURNING SENSATION ON MY TONGUE THAT DOESN'T GO AWAY, DIZZINESS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND I STOPPED USING THE AIR BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MY HEALTH IS AT STAKE. I HAVE KIDS WHO RIDE IN THE CAR FROM 5YEARS OF AGE TO 12 YEARS AND THERE HEALTH IS AFFECT TOO. THE MOLD PRODUCES A GAS OF MYCOTOXINS WHICH CAN BE TRAVEL TO MAJOR ORGANS LUNG, LIVER, AND BRAIN. THESE CARS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND LEXUS OF AUSTIN IN AUSTIN, TEXAS REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY COMPLAINTS. DON'T LET SOMEONE DIE BEFORE THIS GET TAKEN SERIOUS. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF LEXUS/TOYOTA HVAC MOLD ISSUE. ITS NOT JUST THE MOLD THAT IS THE PROBLEM IT IS THE GAS (MYCOTOXINS) YOU ARE MADE TO DRINK EVERYTIME YOU ARE BEHIND THE WHEEL. I KEEP GETTING MAIL ABOUT THE RECALL AND HAVE SPOKE TO LEXUS SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS ABOUT THE TAKATA AIRBAGS EACH TIMES SOMEONE TELLS ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT THERE IS NO LEXUS DEALER IN MY CITY AND THE CLOSEST IS OVER 100 MILES AWAY IN WHICH I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO TAKE A TRIP. I'M WORRIED ABOUT THIS SITUATION BECAUSE NOW THEY SAY DON'T EVEN RIDE NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT'S A INCONVENIENT I USE THIS CAR TO TRANSPORT MY KIDS TO SCHOOL,MY JOB AND LEXUS ISN'T HELPING AND IT'S REALLY THEY FAULT THAT I'M IN THIS SITUATION. IF I COULD TAKE THE CAR TO A SHOP IN MY CITY WHERE I'M PURCHASING THE CAR I WOULD TAKE THE CAR TO THE SHOP BUT OVER 100 MILES OUT AND A 100 MILES BACK HOME I CAN'T AFFORD THAT.
I WAS INFORMED BY STATE FARM INSURANCE THAT MY 2008 LEXUS ES350 DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR AN AIRBAG DISCOUNT BECAUSE THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE AIRBAGS ARE UNSAFE ON THIS MODEL. THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND HAS A GOOEY, STICKY SUBSTANCE ALL OVER THE DASHBOARD. THE STICKY SUBSTANCE IS ALL OVER MY WINDSHIELD AND CANNOT COME OFF DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE GOOEY SUBSTANCE. IT IS CAUSING A GLARE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE LEXUS DEALERSHIP IN JACKSONVILLE, FL AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (WE HAVE PICTURES). WE HAVE ALSO DIRECTLY CONTACTED LEXUS AND THEY STATE THEY WILL NOT COVER REPLACEMENT BECAUSE OUR VIN NUMBER IS OUTSIDE OF THE VIN NUMBERS THEIR ENGINEERS SELECTED, NOR DID THEY OFFER OTHER OPTIONS TO ASSIST WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE DASHBOARD.

I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR AS EVIDENCED BY BRAKE SKID MARKS ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. LEXUS LATER INSPECTED THE CAR AND CLAIMED THEY COULD FIND NO DEFECT. FORTUNATELY MY WIFE AND I WERE ONLY SHAKEN UP FROM THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. MY HOME AND AUTO INSURANCE COVERED PART OF THE DAMAGE AND LEXUS HAS DISAVOWED ANY RESPONSIBILITY, BUT THEY NEVER INSPECTED THE DAMAGE TO OUR HOME OR THE EVIDENCE THAT I WAS TRYING TO STOP THE CAR ALMOST FROM THE INSTANT IT ENTERED THE GARAGE. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS (INVOLVING REPLACEMENT PARTS AND CALIBRATIONS, ETC) SINCE THEN TO FIX THE INTERMITTENT PROBLEM HAVE FAILED. WHILE DRIVING ON OCTOBER 31 THE AIRBAG STATUS LIGHT AGAIN SHOWED "OFF" AGAIN, BUT IN TIME RE-SET ITSELF TO "ON". THIS IS THE NATURE OF THE INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. TOP OF DASHBOARD HAS BECOME VERY SOFT AND STICKY. THE MATERIAL COVERING THE DASHBOARD HAS DETERIORATED. IT IS CAUSING A HIGH SHINE AND GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
WE CURRENTLY HAVE ALLSTATE FOR INSURANCE AND THEY HAVE THIS ITEM CALLED THE DRIVEWISE. THIS DEVICE FITS IN THE OBD II PORT UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS DEVICE CREATED MULTIPLE COMMUNICATIONS ERRORS WITHIN THE COMPUTERS FOR THE CAR. AFTER READING UP ON THIS, IT SEEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE IN MANY MAKES/MODELS. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED FUNNY INTO ANOTHER GEAR ON ITS OWN. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS NOT WORKING AND WOULD NOT LIGHT UP. THE RADIO WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL AND THE SUNROOF WAS MAKING A FUNNY NOISE. THE SPEAKERS WERE MAKING A CRACKLING SOUND AND THE A/C WASN'T WORKING. THE HEATED AND COOLED SEATS WERE NOT WORKING. AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE INTO THE LEXUS DEALER THEY COULD SEE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING MULTIPLE COMMUNICATIONS ISSUES BETWEEN THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS. THIS DEVICE IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND WE WILL NOT CONTINUE USING IT. EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL NOW THAT THE DEVICE HAS BEEN REMOVED. HAD WE NOT BEEN PROACTIVE ABOUT THIS, THE DEVICE COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. POTENTIALLY HARMING SOMEONE. WHILE STOPPING FOR GAS, TRIED TO RAISE WINDOW TO WASH IT AND IT CAME OFF TRACK. TRIED AGAIN AND STILL OFF TRACK. MANAGED TO GET IT RAISED AND IN CLOSED POSITION BUT NOW THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AS SOON AS I TRY TO LOWER IT. *TR
