"TAKATA RECALL" I RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION IN MAY 2016. NOW 8 MONTHS PASSED, NO FURTHER ACTION. REMEDY IS NOT DONE. WE CAN'T USE FRONT SEAT SO THAT MY CAR ONLY CAN SHIP 4 SEATS. WHEN CAN YOU FIX IT? I AM SHOPPING FOR NEXT CAR FOR MY FAMILY - LUXURY SUV. THIS BAD EXPERIENCE ON RECALL MAKES ME DECIDE TO STAY AWAY FROM LEXUS IN THE FUTURE.

LEXUS SENT A RECALL NOTICE ON MAY 23, 2016, ADVISING US NOT TO USE THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT DUE TO THE POTENTIAL DANGER FROM EXPLODING SHRAPNEL FROM THE TAKATA AIRBAG. IT IS NOW JANUARY 17, 2017, A FULL 8 MONTHS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE AS DESIGNED, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION PROVIDED, NO REPAIRS AND NO TARGET DATE FOR A FIX, WE ARE EFFECTIVELY UNABLE TO USE OF THE VEHICLE. REQUESTS FOR A LOANER VEHICLE AT SEVERAL DEALERS HAS BEEN DENIED, WITH ADVICE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER, WHO THEN ADVISED US TO CALL DEALERS. THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE BEHAVIOR AND IS POTENTIALLY WORSE THAN THE VOLKSWAGON DEBACLE. THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE HAS ESSENTIALLY DISAPPEARED AND IT CANNOT BE USED FOR BUSINESS OR PERSONAL FAMILY USE. TOYOTA MUST BE HELD LIABLE AND EITHER COMPENSATE OWNERS, PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE FOR THE DURATION OR PAY FOR RENTAL VEHICLES, PLUS A SUBSTANTIAL FINE FOR THE EXTREMELY EXCESSIVE DELAY.

RECALL NOTICE SENT OUT ON MAY 21, 2016 STATED THAT WE "SHOULD NOT DRIVE WITH ANYONE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT" UNTIL THE FIX FOR THE RECALL IS COMPLETE. IT IS NOW NOVEMBER 11, 2016 AND THERE ARE NO FIX STATEMENTS NOR ANY HINT WHEN OUR VEHICLE (LOCATED IN HOUSTON, TX) WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR A REPAIR. DRIVING WITH THE RESTRICTION OF NOT USING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT AS WE USE THE CAR FOR CLIENTS. LEXUS DEALERS STATE THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE REPAIRS CAN BE MADE AND LEXUS CORPORATE SIMPLY SAID TO CONTACT A DEALER FOR A LOANER CAR, WHICH THEY REFUSE TO DO WHEN CONTACTED. WHILE WE RECOGNIZE THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, THE EXCESSIVE TIME REQUIRED TO COME UP WITH A FIX IS UNACCEPTABLE TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC AND UNCONSCIONABLE BEHAVIOR BY THE MANUFACTURER.

TAKATA RECALL - SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE ADVISES NOT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT I HAVE NOT USED THE PASSENGER SEAT SINCE I RECEIVED THE NOTICE OF RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS TAKING SO LONG TO GET A FIX. MY LEXUS DEALER TOLD ME IT WOULD PROBABLY BE OKAY TO USE THE PASSENGER SEAT SINCE IT WAS UNLIKELY THAT I WOULD HAVE A HEAD ON COLLISION THAT WOULD CAUSE THE BAG TO GO OFF. UNBELIEVABLE!! WE'VE ENDED UP WITH FOUR FIFTHS OF A CAR SINCE I HAVE TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT WHENEVER WE USE THE CAR.
2009 LEXUS ES 350. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DESIGN ISSUES. * SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR, DID NOT RECOGNIZE HER SITTING IN THE SEAT. OVER THE YEARS, THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHECKED THE SENSOR, CALIBRATED THE SENSOR, REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND SENSOR ASSEMBLY AND ON THE MOST RECENT VISIT, A LEXUS ENGINEER WAS CALLED IN TO EVALUATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE SENSOR WAS CALIBRATED FOR A 70 POUND LOAD; HOWEVER, DUE TO A FLAW IN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM FOR THIS MODEL YEAR, IT DID NO CONSISTENTLY SENSE A PASSENGER WEIGHING SLIGHTLY ABOVE 100 POUNDS. THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT ADJUST THE SENSOR BELOW THE 70 POUND CALIBRATION POINT, OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM IN ANY OTHER WAY. *JB

PETITION FOR A DEFECT INVESTIGATION INTO LOW-SPEED SURGING IN DIFFERENT MODELS OF TOYOTA AUTOMOBILES IN WHICH THE CAR STARTS ACCELERATING AND THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES WHEN ACCELERATOR IS NOT DEPRESSED. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON FEBRUARY 13, 2015, HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING TO AN APPOINTMENT. SHE PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT AND DID NOT HAVE HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS SHE WAS COASTING INTO THE PARKING SPOT. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. BIG BUSHES IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE LIMITED THE SPEED, SO HIS WIFE TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE FELL BACK. A WITNESS SAW THE ENTIRE EVEN AND ATTESTED TO THE FACT THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED ROARING. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS SMASHED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE AND SUBSEQUENTLY INSPECTED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE PETITIONER DISPUTES THE MANUFACTURER'S CONCLUSION THAT THE EDR READOUT DOWNLOADED AS PART OF THAT INSPECTION PROVIDED NO EVIDENCE THAT THE INCIDENT "WAS THE RESULT OF ANY TYPE OF MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT." *JB UPDATED 07/27/15. *JB UPDATED 07/29/15. *JLQ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 LEXUS ES350. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD OVERHEATED AND MELTED FROM THE SUN. IN ADDITION, THE DASHBOARD EMITTED AN ABNORMAL ODOR WHEN MELTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,549.
I PUT THE CAR ON D TO DRIVE. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, I BRAKE THE CAR TO STOP. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO DRIVE FORWARD, BUT THE CAR REVERSED WITHOUT ME PUTTING ON R. THE REVERSE GO WAS SLOW. WHEN IT REVERSED, I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR CAR BY PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR THAT WAY. I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR TO STOP THE REVERSE. THE CAR REVERSED LIKE THAT BOTH TIMES SPORADICALLY ON TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS - ON 11.11.2014 AND ON THE MORNING OF 11.12.2014. MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE SERVICE OF LEXUS AT LONGO ON THE EVENING OF 11.12.2014, WHICH IS WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT. THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, CHARGE ME MONEY, AND GAVE THE CAR BACK TO ME THE NEXT DAY. I BELIEVE THAT THE CAR NEEDS MORE INVESTIGATION. I AM AFRAID OF THE SPORADIC REVERSAL OF THE CAR WHILE IT IS ON D. I AM FURTHER AFRAID THAT AT HIGH FREEWAY SPEED, THE PROBLEM IT COULD CAUSE IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I GOT REAR ENDED WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACKSEAT IN HER CAR SEAT, AND I BEING THE DRIVER 8 MONTHS PREGNANT. The contact owns a 2009 Lexus ES350. The contact stated that the vehicle intermittently accelerated upon releasing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that recently upon entering the garage, the vehicle suddenly accelerated after releasing the brake pedal, almost causing the vehicle to crash into the residence. The struck other materials inside the garage, causing front-end damages to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the vehicle had already been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V388000 (Vehicle Speed Control). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN SEPT OF 2009 MY WIFE DRIVES IN TOWN AND IT ONLY HAS 27000 MILES ON IT AND THE TWO FRONT TIRES ARE SHOWING STEEL BELTS ON BOTH INSIDE OF TIRES,PRETTY ON SAFE. HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS HOW THE CAR IS SET UP. THE PROBLEM WILL KEEP HAPPENING. CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN INTO A PARKING SPOT AT LESS THAN 5 MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND STARTED TO CLIMB A ROCK HILL BEFORE IT COULD BE STOPPED. ON THE EVENING OF DECEMBER 13, 2010, VICTIM LEFT HIS CAR RUNNING IN HIS GARAGE. THE CAR HAS A "SMART KEY" WHICH IS A REMOTE KEY-FOB. THIS MEANS THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE TO TURN A KEY TO TURN THE IGNITION ON AND OFF. INSTEAD, THE CAR TURNS ON AND OFF BY PRESSING THE SAME BUTTON ON THE DASH BOARD. HE MUST HAVE FORGOTTEN TO TURN THE CAR OFF. HE THEN WENT TO SLEEP AND SUFFERED CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING DURING THE NIGHT. HE WAS FOUND UNCONSCIOUS ON THE FLOOR THE NEXT MORNING. ON JULY 22, 2010 I HAD BEEN TRAVELING FROM CAPE COD AND WAS ON I84 USING MY CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 2009 LEXUS ES, SET TO 64 MPH. I WOULD CANCEL IT BY PUSHING THE LEVER TOWARDS ME WHEN TRAFFIC GOT HEAVY AND PUSH "RESUME" WHEN I HAD AN OPEN ROAD. AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 210 MI AND USING IT IN THE ABOVE MANNER IT WOULD NOT RESUME AS BEFORE. THE CAR WOULD SURGE AND ACCELERATE TO OVER 75 MPH. I HAD TO CANCEL THE CRUISE FOR IT TO STOP ACCELERATING BECAUSE IT WAS NOT STOPPING. I WAS NOT USING THE PEDALS AT ANY TIME. I TRIED IT TWICE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED.
