UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT WITNESSED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE CORROSION AND RUST ON THE FUEL TANK. GOT IN CAR AFTER STOPPING AT GROCERY STORE AND SMELLED GAS, THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE FROM A NEARBY GAS STATION. GOT HOME AND PARKED CAR IN GARAGE AND ABOUT AN HOUR LATER WENT IN GARAGE TO TAKE OUT TRASH. GARAGE HAD HEAVY SMELL OF GASOLINE. OPENED GARAGE DOOR, PARKED CAR OUTSIDE AND GASOLINE SMELL IN GARAGE WENT AWAY. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALER AND CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SPLIT/LEAKING FUEL RAIL ON TOP OF ENGINE. HAD TO HAVE METAL FUEL RAIL REPLACED. *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH 1997 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. BOTH VEHICLES WERE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE LINCOLN STARTED ON FIRE.
