I HAVE HAD MY AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM REPLACED AT LEAST 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE REAR DROPS DOWN AND DAMAGES MY TIRES. AFTER REPLACING THE SYSTEM SEVERAL TIMES. I HAD A CONVERSION KIT REPLACED.
WHEN THE SHIFTER WAS ENGAGED INTO PARK THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS WITHOUT WARNING. *AK *NM
WITHOUT WARNING PASSENGER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHEN THE DRIVER TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH ON. *AK
I EXPERIENCED A CONTINENTAL TIRE TREAD SEPARATION WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 65 MPH TODAY. THE TIRE TREAD CAUSED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE SIDE FENDER/BUMPER AND SIDE STEP PANEL AFTER THE TREAD SEPARATION. THE CAR IS A 2000 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR ID # [XXX] WHICH I JUST PURCHASED ON JULY 6, 2003. THE TIRE WAS A CONTINENTAL SUV P265/70R17 113S THAT APPEARS TO BE THE REPLACEMENT TIRE FOR A CONTINENTAL TIRE RECALL IN AUGUST 2002 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02T012000) DEALING WITH THE CONTITRAC AW AND GRABBER AW TIRES SIZE P275/60R17 FOR USE AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON CERTAIN 2000-2001 BY TWO-WHEEL-DRIVE FORD EXPEDITION AND TWO-WHEEL-DRIVE LINCOLN NAVIGATOR SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE SPARE TIRE THAT WAS THEN PUT ON THE CAR LOOKS TO BE THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT SPARE TIRE. IT IS A CONTINENTAL AW TIRE, P275/60R17 100S THAT APPEARS TO BE THE TIRE THAT WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I WOULD LIKE KNOW HOW TO CORRECTLY IDENTIFY THE SPARE TIRE I AM NOW RIDING ON AS TO WHETHER IT IS THE TIRE THAT WAS RECALLED AND IF SO AS TO HOW I CAN GET IT REPLACED. ALSO, AS TO WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES THAT THE TIRE HAS CAUSED AND AS TO HOW I CAN GET THE TIRE REPLACED BECAUSE OF APPARENT MANUFACTURE DEFECT. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. AS A RESULT, THE FRONT END WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED NEW. THEY WERE MANUFACTURED IN 1997 AND DRY ROTTED. *AK *TT *JB
I PURCHASED A 2000 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR FROM LAUREL-FORD DEALER IN MISSISSIPPI ON AUGUST 21, 2003. AFTER ASKING THE DEALERSHIP IF ALL NECESSARY MAINTENANCES WERE DONE ON VEHICLE MY FAMILY AND I LEFT FOR NEW YORK. I STILL HAD THE ORIGINAL MFR WARRANTIES AND I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE ON AUGUST 25TH THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND SUDDENLY THE LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED. MY FAMILY AND I FEARED FOR OUR LIVES. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE BRAKES WERE FAULTY, NO EMERGENCY BRAKES, NO STABLIZER, HEAVILY RUSTY LINKS, AND ETC. THE TOW TRUCK HAD TO TOW US TWICE. AFTER ARIVING IN NEW YORK, A DEALER, TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER SERVICED. THEY EXPLAINED IN DETIALED IN WRTING. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I WAS ON VACTION WITH MY TWIN BOYS AND WIFE. I VERY ANGRIED WITH THE LAUREL-FORD DEALERSHIP IN MS AND ITS OWNERS. THE TIRES SEEM DRY ROTTED AND CORROSION WAS VERY VISIABLE UNDER THE SUV. SINCE THEN, I SPENT OVER $5000 GETTING THIS NAVIGATOR FIXED AND GOT VERY LITTLE SATISFACTIN FROM THE OWNER AND HIS DEALERSHIP. *AK
THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE LUG SEPARATING FROM THE NUT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT LONG ENOUGH AT TIME OF MANUFACTURING.*AK AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER OBSERVED THE LUG NUTS ON THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED THAT THEY WERE ILLEGAL AS NO THREADS ON THE STUDS CAME THROUGH THE NUT. SHE STATED THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. WHEN THE CONSUMER LEARNED OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN CONCERNING A STUD CHANGE FROM 12MM TO 14MM TWO MONTHS AFTER THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DID PAY FOR THE WORK TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *PH *JB
STEERING WHEEL MAKES NOISE EITHER WAY, TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK THE NOISE WA RANDOM AND NOT ALWAYS PRESENT. *PH *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP INTERMITTENTLY. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED FIVE TIMES SINCE JULY. THE DEALER WORKED ON THE PROBLEM AND CLAIMED THAT IT WAS FIXED, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 85 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. *AK THE VEHICLE ALSO LOCK AT 55 AND 70 MPH. THE VEHICLE LOCKED AGAIN AFTER IT WAS FIXED BUT WAS BROKEN OUT OF THE LOCK. THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHEN STARTED. THE MECHANIC FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE MUST BE USED. *SC *JB
2000 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR SUFFERING TIRE BLOW OUTS. CUSTOMER STATES THAT THEY HAD 2 BLOW OUTS WITH CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC AW TIRES AND ONE WITH CONTINENTAL SPORT LT/SUV. *KB WHEN THE THIRD BLOWOUT OCCURRED, THE RUBBER SEPARATED AND CAUSED DAMAGED TO THE VEHICLE. *JB
MY 2000 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR'S AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM GAVE OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM LIGHT EVER COMING ON. THE SYSTEM FAILED AFTER THE CAR WAS SITTING WITH THE AC ON FOR ABOUT 25 MINUTES. THERE WAS NO OTHER ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE CAR BEFORE THE FAILURE. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ENGINE HESITATION THEN FAILURE. TROUBLE CODE READS SEVERAL IGNITION MODULES DEFECTIVE. AFTER CODES ARE CLEARED ENGINES WORKS FINE UNTIL ENGINE UNDER STRAIN, THEN STALLS OUT AGAIN AFTER IGNITION HAVE BEEN CHANGED OUT.*AK
THE CONTINENTAL TIRES VIBRATED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THE STEEL TIRE BELT CAME APART. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE TIRES WERE RECALLED BUT HE CONSUMER WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FRO THE RECALL BECAUSE IT EXPIRED 2 DAYS BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. *MR *SCC *NLM
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE CONTINENTAL TIRES, HOWEVER CONSUMER WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT, BECAUSE THE RECEIPT WAS OUT OF DATE.*JB

CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE FRONT END WOULD HEAVILY VIBRATE CAUSING THE FRONT TIRES TO WEAR. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY, STOPPING DISTANCE HAS INCREASED, AND BRAKING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT AT ANY TIME AND SPEED. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER HAS TRIED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, BUT REMEDY DID NOT WORK.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 50MPH ON HIGHWAY, CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, AND NOTICED THAT LEFT FRONT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM WHEEL. CONTINENTIAL, CONTRAC, P275/60R17. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK *JB
NEW TIRE ON 2000 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR DELAMINATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. *AK
CONSUMER WANTS TO BE REIMBURSED FOR DEFECTIVE TIRES. NAR 1-22-03 THE CONSUMER HEARD A THUMPING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT 3 BULDGES WERE FOUND IN THE TIRES AND WERE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON. *JB
I HAVE EXPERIENCED 2 BLOWOUTS ON THIS SET OF TIRES. ON INSPECTION, THE SERVICE REP (FOR THE AUTO DEALER, MARSHALL BROS.) FOUND A THIRD TIRE THAT WAS ABOUT TO SEPARATE IN MUCH THE SAME WAY. I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS TIME TO BUY NEW TIRES. I WENT TO MY LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER TO REPLACE THE OLD TIRES. HE TOLD ME THEY WERE STILL IN VERY GOOD SHAPE, I DID NOT NEED NEW TIRES. HE BELIEVED THAT THE ONE THAT HAD BLOWN OUT WAS DEFECTIVE. WHAT CONCERNS ME MOST WERE THE COMMENTS MADE BY BOTH THE LINCOLN SERVICE REP & THE INDEPENDENT GOODYEAR DEALER. THAY BOTH STATED THAT THE EXPEDITIONS, NAVIGATORS & EXPLORERS ARE EXTREMELY ROUGH ON TIRES. THE LINCOLN SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SHOWED ME AN EXPEDITION THAT HE WAS CHANGING OUT ALL THE TIRES- IT WAS A 2001 EXPEDITION WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. THIS CONCERNS ME...IN ADDITION, MARSHALL BROS. LINCOLN-MERCURY WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THE TIRES. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTINENTAL MFR. IS VERY HARD TO LOCATE. I'M STILL TRYING. I HAVE POSSESSION OF THE MOST RECENT 2 FAILED TIRES @ HOME. THE FIRST BLOW-OUT WAS @ APPROXIMATELY 55MPH WHEN THE CAR HAD 12,000 MILES ON IT. THANK YOU. P.S. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE IS MY FATHER. HE GAVE ME THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE THIS PAST DECEMBER. HE WILL VERIFY OR SIGN THIS REPORT IF NEEDED.*AK

NAR 06-10-2003. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS CONTACTED BY CONTINENTAL CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT ABOUT HER TIRES BEING APART OF A REFERENCE RECALL PROGRAM , DESPITE THE CONFIRMATIONS AND THE CONSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES THEY HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AND THE ONLY ACCOMMODATIONS OFFERED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF CONTINENTAL WAS 20% OFF A SET OF REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY OUTRAGED AND DISAPPOINTED HOW CONTINENTAL HAS HANDLED MATTERS AND WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SWIFTLY RESOLVING THE SITUATION. WHILE TRAVELING AT NIGHT A LOUD RUBBING NOISE WAS HEARD. WHEN CONSUMER REACHED DESTINATION, HE FOUND THAT THE SPARE TIRE HAD FALLEN OFF. SPARE TIRE HAD NEVER BEEN USED. DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED. *AK DEALER REPLACED SPARE TIRE AND CABLE WINCH ASSEMBLY, HOWEVER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY REASON FOR THE CAUSE. *SLC

CONTINENTAL AW P275/60R17, DOT UNKNOWN. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2000, LINCOLN NAVIGATOR WITH 28000 MILES. ON 26 MAY 2001 WHILE DRIVING 45-50 MPH RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION, A 12 INCH STRIP OF TREAD CAME OFF.28138 MILES AT THE TIME. ON 8 JUNE 2001, WHILE DRIVING 45-50 MPH LEFT REAR TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION, A 12-18 INCH STRIP OF TREAD HAD STARTED TO SEPARATE FROM TIRE. 28200 MILES AT THIS TIME. IN BOTH CASES NO DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. DEALER REPLACED BOTH TIRES, CONSUMER FEELS THE OTHER ORIGINAL TIRES WILL DO THE SAME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.*AK ALL ORIGINAL TIRES WERE REPLACED BY MANUFACTURER. *YH
I EXPERIENCE WHAT I BELIEVE WAS A TREAD SEPARATION IN THE TIRE WHILE TRAVELING ON I 15 IN ARIZONA, ON THE WAY TO LAS VEGAS. AS THE TIRE NOISE AND VIBRATION INCREASED, I BEGAN TO LET OFF THE GAS, PREPARING TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, WHEN THE TIRE BLEW OUT, AND THEN COASTED TO A STOP ALONG THE CURVED INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. UPON INSPECTION OF THE TIRE, IT WAS NOTED THAT BOTH SIDEWALLS HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TREAD, AND THE VEHICLE HAD RUN A SHORT DISTANCE ON THE ALUMINUM WHEEL. THAT FRIDAY AFTERNOON WE CALLED CONTINENTAL'S CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER, BUT THEY WERE CLOSED UNTIL MONDAY. THE FORD DEALER IN GRAND JUNCTION ADVISED US TO SEE A LINCLONDEALER IN LAS VEGAS. THE DESERT LINCOLN DEALER 702-257-0687 (RUSS SCHOENBECK) SAID THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO TALK TO A CONTINENTAL TIRE DEALER BECAUSE LINCOLN DID NOT WARRANTY THE TIRES ON THE 2000 NAVIGATOR, BUT DID NOW WARRANT THE TIRES ON THE 2001 NAVIGATOR. HE SAID THAT HE HAS SEEN THREE OTHER 17 INCH TIRE FAILURES ON THE NAVIGATORS, ONE WITH MASSIVE TREAD SPERATION THAT DAMAGED THE CUSTOMERS SHEETMETAL. THE CUSTOMER, A BROKER, CONVINCED CONTINENTAL TO REPAIR THE SHEET METAL ON HIS VEHICLE. I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED AT DISCOUNT TIRE IN LAS VEGAS 702-451-1453 AND HAD TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR A NEW TIRE BECAUSE I WOULD NOT LET DISCOUNT TIRE HAVE THE DAMAGED TIRE, IN CASE I HAD TO PROVE THE FAULTY TIRE CAUSED THE WHEEL TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE THE TIRE IN MY POSSESSION. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO INSPECT IT, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH ME PROPMTLY. I DID REPORT THE TIRE PROBLEM TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY1-800-521-4140 EXPRESSING MY CONCERNS THAT THE TIRE IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. SHE SAID THAT FORD DOES NOT WARRANT THE TIRES. I SAID THAT THE TIRE IS NOT FIT FOR USE ON THE VEHICLE, AND THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH "FITNESS FOR PURPOSE" WHEN FORD SOLD ME THE VEHICLE WITH THE TIRES INSTALLED (DOT NUMBER: AD9C448090 TIRESIZE: P255/75R17)

PROBLEM FIRST NOTICED AT APPRX. 700 MILES - STRONG VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL WHILE SITTING AT AN IDLE, ALSO FELT IN REVERSE. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN 5 TIMES NOW FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED FROM NOW HAS THE CAR. THEY ARE REPLACING BOTH THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS IN HOPE OF CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT IT HAS BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE REPLY.

FAILURE IN BOTH BRAKING MECHANISM AND 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SYSTEMS CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHILE IT ACCELERATED UNTIL STOPPED BY TURNING OFF IGNITION. *AK
