RADIO START AND FEW SECONDS LATER IT SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY
EBRAKE WOULD NOT DISENGAGE ON THE MAZDA CX-5 2016 GT WITH CITY BRAKE AND ELECTRONIC E-BRAKE AT 36,100 MILES DURING VARIOUS PARKING LOCATIONS SCENARIOS. VEHICLE WOULD START NORMALLY AT PUSH OF START BUTTON BUT THE E-BRAKE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON IN THE FLASHING MODE. TURN ENGINE OFF/RESTARTING WOULD RESOLVE THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY JUST TO RETURN TO THE SAME ISSUE AT RANDOM PARKING LOCATIONS. DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED A REPLACEMENT BATTERY MAIN 12 VOLT BATTERY FOR $185+TAX+INSTALLATION. BATTERY REPLACEMENT SUGGESTED BASED ON A CLAIM OF LOW VOLTAGE MEASURED AT THE E-BRAKE SWITCH LOCATED ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. THERE WAS NO OTHER SOLUTIONS PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER TESTING/ISOLATION OF ISSUE PRIIR MAKING A PAYMENT, TO INCLUDE CONFIRMATION THAT IN FACT THE BATTERY IS THE CULPRIT. UTILIZING AN ALTERNATE/TEST BATTERY COULD BE A TEMPORARY TESTING SOLUTION. PAYMENTS WERE MADE AS REQUESTED AND THE ISSUE OF THE FLASHING E-BRAKE LIGHT FLASHING/E-BRAKE NOT DISENGAGING IS LESS APPARENT WITH 2 INCIDENTS 1 MONTH AFTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT. INCIDENTS OBSERVED WHILE IN COVERED/UNCOVERED PARKING SCENARIOS, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE OSCILLATE FROM 75 TO 92 F. VEHICLE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED UNDER 5000 MILES BY DEALERSHIP DUE TO NOISES AND PREMATURE WEAR. VEHICLE ALSO HAS A MAZDA REMOTE START SYSTEM INSTALLED BY DEALERSHIP WITH A HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF THE A/C COMPRESSOR. DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 MAZDA CX-5. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE BRAKE AND ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JOE MYERS MAZDA (713-587-9948, LOCATED AT 16500 NORTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77040) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT A "SAFETY CONCERN" WOULD BE SUBMITTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 MAZDA CX-5. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE AND BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HEARD ANOTHER POPPING NOISE. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE HIMSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CAPITOL MAZDA (LOCATED AT 980 CAPITOL EXPRESSWAY AUTO MALL, SAN JOSE, CA 95136, (408) 763-4018) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK FAILED AND THE ENGINE ROD WAS FRACTURED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-1844061638. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
LED LIGHTS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAVE FAILED. HEADLIGHT (LOW/HIGH BEAMS) AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL CONTINUE TO OPERATE NORMALLY. CAR WAS STATIONARY WHEN A FRIEND NOTICED THE PROBLEM. ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATED THAT THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED AS A PROBLEM IN NUMEROUS CASES. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED OTHER OWNERS REPORTING SAME PROBLEM AND ADDED MY INFORMATION ON THEIR RECORDS.
THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE ON EACH SIDE AND I AM WAITING ON BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY KITS. THEY TELL ME IT IS A 1000.00 PLUS COST TO ME. AFTER SPEAKING WITH NATIONAL MAZDA (NOT NAPLETON) I WAS TOLD THEY HAD TO MAKE A CHANGE. SHOUOD THEY NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS, WHILE WAITING FOR MY LEFT HEADLIGHT MY RIGHT WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING HOME LAST NIGHT. I NOW HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS FOR A 30K CAR. HELP
WITHIN IN 3 YEARS OF OWNING A BRAND NEW MAZDA CX-5, THE RUNNING LIGHTS ON ONE OF THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. MAZDA SAYS THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED TO FIX THE ISSUE AT A COST OF $1,730. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM AND CLEARLY MAZDA SHOULD BE RECALLING THEIR HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED AND SHATTERED INTO MULTIPLE PIECES. I WAS NOT NEAR A BRIDGE, NOR DRIVING BY A TRUCK. IT JUST SHATTERED SPONTANEOUSLY.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH 36K MILES ON IT, CLEAN CARFAX, WITH ONLY 1 OWNER. WITHIN AN HOUR FROM DRIVING IT HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I NOTICED AN ISSUE WHEN PUTTING IT IN DRIVE. THERE WAS A 5 SECOND DELAY. EVERY SINGLE TIME I PUT IT ON DRIVE, THE DELAY WOULD HAPPEN. IF YOU STEPPED ON THE GAS, IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL AND VIOLENTLY JOLT FORWARD. LUCKILY, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID ACCIDENTS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN BUT I NO LONGER FEEL THAT IT IS SAFE. THE SOLUTION I WAS GIVEN AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAY POTENTIALLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY IT TOOK THEM 3 MONTHS TO SELL THIS CAR. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS UNETHICAL.
MY FIANCE STARTED TO HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM MY REAR WHEN BRAKES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY CAR WOULD ROCK WHEN I TOOK THE PARKING BRAKE OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN DOWN, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE HAD SLIGHTLY MORE WEAR THEN THE THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. NEW PADS WERE INSTALLED AROUND 32,000 MILES. ABOUT 8,000 MILES LATER I STARTED TO HEAR THE SAME NOISE AGAIN, THIS TIME IT WAS WORSE. I TOOK IN AGAIN TO GET LOOKED AT AND THE REAR PASSENGER PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN DOWN, WHILE THE REAR DRIVER PADS BARELY HAD ANY WEAR TO THEM. I WAS TOLD IT WAS MOST LIKELY A MALFUNCTIONING CALIBER. MAZDA RAN MY VIN AND STATED THAT IS CAME UP AS A TSB BUT STATED THAT I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THAT WHEN I DRIVE MY VEHICLE MY BRAKES WILL MALFUNCTION CAUSING ME GET INTO AN ACCIDENT WHICH MAY RESULT IN DEATH.
IN A PARKING SPACE, FOOT ON BRAKE, MOVING GEARSHIFT TO PARK, ENGINE REVVED AND CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITH CAR IN PARK AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. IT JUMPED THE CONCRETE BUMPER, RAN OVER HANDICAP PARKING SIGN AND HIT CAR IN ADJACENT PARKING SPACE HARD ENOUGH TO MOVE IT BACK INTO THE DRIVING LANE OF PARKING LOT. AT THAT POINT THE CAR STOPPED. WE PULLED IT BACK INTO PARKING SPACE TO HELP MOVE OTHER HIT CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC
DRIVER SIDE LED DAYTIME RUNNING HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING, AND INTERMITTENTLY TURNING OFF AT 40,400 MILES. PULLED OVER BY STATE POLICE AND ISSUED A WARNING VIOLATION FOR NON-FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHTS. VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON SAFETY ISSUE AMONG 2016 MAZDA CX-5 OWNERS.
BOTH FRONT LED HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES SEEM TO BE TOTALLY UNRELIABLE AFTER ~35K TO 40K MILES AND CUSTOMERS ARE UNLIKELY TO QUICKLY REPLACE SOMETHING THAT COSTS $1200 EACH TIME. MAZDA AGREED TO FIX ONE BUT WHEN THE SECOND ONE WENT BAD AROUND 40K (OUR KID NOTICED WHILE WE WERE PULLING IN INTO THE GARAGE AT NIGHT) THEY SAID IT'S OUTSIDE WARRANTY AND THEY DON'T SEE ANY ISSUES. THERE SEEM TO BE NEARLY 20 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS JUST ON THIS ONE SITE. THE SUV WON'T PASS STATE INSPECTION WITHOUT THIS ISSUE FIXED, AND AT $1200 A POP, DRIVERS ARE LIKELY TO PUSH THE LIMITS AND DRIVE THE SUV WITHOUT FIXING THE ISSUE. *LN *TR
MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT WAS FLICKER AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW MY LEFT HEADLIGHT IS OUT AND WILL COST OVER $1100 TO REPLACE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY ENDED. VEHICLE ONLY AS 23,000 MILES. THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM WITH THESE HEADLIGHTS FROM ALL THE COMPLAINTS FILED.
DRL IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. DRIVER SIDE COMPLETELY RUN OUT, PASSENGER SIDE - DIMMED AND FLICKERING PERMANENTLY. SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT SYSTEM IS DISABLED AND NOT WORKING AS WELL AS ADAPTIVE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS.
HATCH LIFT SUPPORTS WERE REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY ON 6/5/17 AND HAVE FAILED AGAIN TALKED TO DEALER AND MAZDA ON 11/26/18 THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THEM.
2016 MAZDA CX5 GRAND TOURING W/LED LIGHTING RIGHT DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHT (DLR) HAS FAILED. MY 2016 CX-5 HAS 25,400 MILES AND IS 3 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. THESE HEADLIGHT UNITS ARE SEALED, IF ANY LIGHT IN THE UNIT FAILS, I AM TOLD BY MAZDA THRE IS NO REPAIR EXCEPT FOR A COMPLETE HEADLIGHT UNIT. IF A BLUB FAILS THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT UNIT MUST BE REPLACED AT A $1600 COST. ONLY A MAZDA DEALER CAN REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT UNIT. GOOD LUCK IF THERE IS NO MAZDA DEALER NEARBY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO ME BECAUSE THIS IS COMMON FAILURE IN MANY OTHER CX-5'S. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ITEM, DRIVING AT NIGHT AND A ENTIRE HEADLIGHT UNIT FAILS, WILL OTHER UNITS FAIL? I THINK SO, BECAUSE THIS IS DEFINITELY A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH ALL MAZDA HEADLIGHT UNITS. I WOULD HOPE THAT MAXDA WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX THIS PROBLEM UNDER A RECALL PROCEDURE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO FORCE MAZDA TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (COCHRAN VOLKSWAGEN OF NORTH HILLS 11750 US-19, WEXFORD, PA 15090 (412) 245-4620) WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY AND THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIAGNOSIS FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING ON 08/20/2018. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,950.
THE PASSENGER DAYTIME RUNNING LED LIGHT IN THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY EITHER DOES NOT WORK OR WILL FLICKER DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER FOR VEHICLES TO PASS INSPECTION, ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS MUST WORK, SO THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MAZDA NEEDS TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE.

DRIVING ON RTE 95 S IN PA. WHEN THE RIGHT REAR YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR G91A TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENTIRE CENTER TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL AND TOOK OFF DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE TPMS DID NOT ALERT ME AND ONLY THE SIDEWALLS ARE LEFT. MAZDA AND YOKOHAMA COULDN'T CARE LESS WHEN I CONTACTED THEM.
AFTER APPROXIMATELY 31,000 MILES, MY DRIVER SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS CEASED TO WORK. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, SINCE I USE MY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS TO ALERT ONCOMING TRAFFIC OF MY PRESENCE.
LED DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS FAILED ON DRIVER'S SIDE OF VEHICLE. KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CX-5 CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THIS IS NOT A SERVICEABLE PART OF THE VEHICLE.
LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT ON PASSENGER-SIDE HEADLIGHT FLICKERS AND IS VERY DIM. ON A FEW OCCASIONS, THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE IN FRONT STATED THAT IT LOOKED AS IF MY HEADLIGHT WAS OUT AS WELL. VEHICLE IS ONLY 3-YEARS OLD. MILEAGE SHOULD NOT AFFECT ELECTIRAL LED COMPONENTS. DRL'S OR HEADLIGHTS ARE REQUIRED DURING ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS OR WHEN OPERATING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS.
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON MY 2016 CX-5 HAVE FAILED AFTER TWO YEARS AND 38900 MILES. YOU CANNOT REPLACE THE "BULB" FOR A FEW DOLLARS. YOU MUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE LIGHT UNIT THAT INCLUDES LOW BEAM, HIGH BEAM, TURN SIGNAL, AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL). THIS UNIT COSTS MINIMUM OF $400.00 AND UP TO $1200.00 WHEN INSTALLED BY DEALER. THIS IS AN EXORBITANT PRICE TO PAY FOR A SIMPLE LED BULB THAT SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN TWO YEARS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
2016 MAZDA CX5 GRAND TOURING W/LED LIGHTING OUR LEFT LED HEADLIGHT UNIT DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHT HAS FAILED. WE SOON LEARNED THIS A COMMON FAILURE WITH OURS AND MANY OTHER CX5'S DUE TO WATER INTRUSION. THERE ARE UNITS THAT HAVE FAILED AND UNITS THAT WILL FAIL. FURTHER WE LEARNED THERE IS NO REPAIR EXCEPT FOR A COMPLETE HEADLIGHT UNIT REPLACEMENT. THE UNITS ARE "SEALED." THERE IS NO ACCESS EVEN TO REPLACE A SIMPLE HEADLIGHT BULB. SHOULD A LIGHT FAIL FAR FROM A DEALER, AT NIGHT, ONE IS STUCK. WE BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY DEFECT AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BY THE NHTSA TO REQUIRE THE MANUFACTURER (MAZDA) TO REPLACE BOTH DEFECTIVE SEALED LED HEADLIGHT UNITS. OUR MAZDA DEALER REFUSES TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE ON A WARRANTY BASIS. BASED ON OUR RESEARCH THIS FAILURE GENERALLY OCCURS AROUND THE 36,000 MILE MARK. IF A HEADLIGHT CANNOT BE REPLACED, AT NIGHT, FAR FROM A DEALER, THEN A SUBSTANTIAL SAFETY ISSUE EXISTS. THE DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHT IS A MANDATED SAFETY ITEM AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE RELIABLE AND FUNCTIONING . PLEASE NOTE THE MANY OTHER MAZDA CX5 OWNERS WHO HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED. WE FIRST NOTICED THIS FAILURE BY OBSERVING OUR REFLECTION IN A BUSINESS WINDOW. THE LED DAYTIME LIGHTS ONLY COME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE FIRST STARTS ROLLING PRECLUDING PERFORMING A PRECHECK.
2016 MAZDA CX-5 POWER DRIVER SEAT RECLINES TO VARYING DEGREES (SOMETIMES FULLY, SOMETIMES PARTIALLY) INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT INPUT WHILE VEHICLE IS PARKED. MIGHT HAPPEN TODAY AND NOT AGAIN FOR SEVERAL WEEKS OR MORE THAN A MONTH BUT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN TOMORROW. SEAT ADJUSTMENT SWITCH WORKS NORMALLY OTHERWISE. DEALER UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATE PROBLEM. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE OFFERED OTHER THAN WE MUST BE RUBBING AGAINST THE ADJUSTMENT SWITCH AS WE EXIT THE VEHICLE. THIS WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE SINCE THE SEAT ADJUSTMENT SWITCH REQUIRES CONTINUOUS ACTIVATION RATHER THAN A MOMENTARY INPUT WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE.

I SLOWED DOWN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, GOING ABOUT 10 MILES AND HOUR, AND WAS COASTING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT ABOUT 5 MPH IN MY HOME NEIGHBORHOOD. IT WAS ABOUT 1:15 PM ON A SUNNY, CLEAR DAY. I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR AS I PULLED INTO THE SPOT YET I WAS GOING SLOW AND COASTING STRAIGHT INTO THE SPOT. SUDDENLY, THE CAR SPED UP, THE BRAKES HAD NO RESPONSE, AND THE CAR JUMPED OVER THE CURB AND RAN INTO TWO BUSHES. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE...BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING, I HAD NO CONTROL, IT WAS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THEN THE CAR STOPPED AFTER I HIT THE BUSHES. I WAS SHAKEN, BUT NO BAGS DEPLOYED. I THEN MOVED THE CAR OFF OF THE GRASS, AND PULLED THE CAR AROUND TO THE SAME PARKING SPACE. THIS TIME THE CAR STOPPED NORMALLY. I HAVE 18,168 MILES ON THIS CAR. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE I AM CONCERNED IT WILL DO THIS AGAIN AND I WILL BE IN TRAFFIC OR NEAR PEOPLE AND I COULD HURT OR KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF ANY PROBLEM.
FAILURE OF LED DRL (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT) ON PASSENGER (RIGHT) SIDE. NON REPLACEABLE BULB. REQUIRES REMOVAL OF FRONT BUMPER COVER AND REPLACEMENT OF COMPLETE HEADLIGHT MODULE FOR EXCESS OF $1000. MAZDA WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACING UNDER A SILENT WARRANTY.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY WHEN A BASKETBALL BOUNCED OFF THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND THEN HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE HOOD BUT WHEN THE BASKETBALL HIT THE WINDSHIELD IT SHATTERED THE RIGHT TOP SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD.
WHEN REPLACING REAR DRIVERS SIDE REAR BRAKES AND ROTOR, NOTICED EXCESSIVE WEAR COMPARED TO PASSENGER SIDE. REPLACED PADS AND ROTORS ON BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS REAR. TWICE SINCE THE REPLACEMENT, THE REAR BRAKES HAVE STAYED ENGAGED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, CAUSING EXCESSIVE HEATING, SMOKING, ETC TO THE BRAKES, WHEELS, AND TIRES. SUSPECT PARKING BRAKE ON DRIVER SIDE NOT DISENGAGING. HAVE STOPPED USING PARKING BRAKE. HAVE NOT HAD REPEAT OCCURRANCE SINCE STOPPED USING PARKING BRAKE.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION TURNING LEFT PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. FOOT ON BRAKE/OFF OF ACCELERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL OFF, SLOWLY PULLING IN. ACCELERATED ENOUGH TO JUMP CURB ONTO SIDEWALK. ABLE TO BREAK JUST ABOUT THREE FEET SHORT OF BRICK BUILDING. CAR AT DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL DAYS. TECHNICIANS UNABLE TO RECREATE OR DISCOVER PROBLEM.
THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FAILED AFTER 3 YEARS AND 60,000 MILES. IT IS AN LED, NON-REPLACEABLE LIGHT THAT IS PART OF THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. OUT OF WARRANTY AND DEALERS WANT IN EXCESS OF $1,000 TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE LED LIGHT SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 3 YEARS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL BY MAZDA.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FLICKERING. DEALERSHIP ADVISED NEEDS REPLACED AT $1100 PLUS FOR ONE. I THOUGHT LEDS LASTED FOR 10 YEARS. VEHICLES ARE BEING DRIVEN IN UNSAFE CONDITIONS BECAUSE OF COST OR ARE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. MAZDA SHOULD HAVE TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND STAND BEHIND THIS ISSUE.
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT FLICKERS AND OFF MOST OF THE TIME. ISSUE WAS NOTICED LAST YEAR BUT BECAUSE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY DID NOT RETURN TO DEALERSHIP. RECENTLY FOUND ON THE INTERNET OTHER SIMILAR MAZDA VEHICLES EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE ON A RECENT HIGHWAY ROAD TRIP, MY 2016 MAZDA CX-5'S DRIVER SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LED LIGHTS, WHICH COME EQUIPPED WITH THE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE, STOPPED ILLUMINATING PROPERLY. THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP LED LIGHTS IN QUESTION WILL FLICKER OR NOT ILLUMINATE AT ALL. I FOUND THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE EQUIPPED ON VEHICLES TO ENHANCE VISIBILITY AND SAFETY. A FLICKERING DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP CAN CAUSE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS RESULTING IN DISTRACTED DRIVING RELATED COLLISIONS. MAZDA ADVERTISED THESE SPECIFIC HEADLAMPS AS BEING A LONG LASTING AND PROVIDING ENHANCED SAFETY AS THEY ADAPT TO CHANGING ROADWAY CONDITIONS. UPON CONDUCTING INDEPENDENT RESEARCH INTO THE DRL (DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP), IT WAS LEARNED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2016 MAZDA CX-5, WITH THE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE / LED HEADLAMPS, HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE ALMOST AS SOON AS THE BASIC FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRES. IT WAS THEN LEARNED THE AVERAGE COST TO GET THIS SITUATION REMEDIED WOULD RESULT IN HAVING TO PAY ALMOST $1500 - $2000 TO GET THE WHOLE HEADLAMP UNIT REPLACED. RESEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REVEALED A FAULTY GASKET AT THE BASE OF THE HEADLAMP UNIT WHICH CAUSED MOISTURE/GAS TO DEVELOP ON THE INTERIOR OF THE HEADLAMP LENS, THIS IS ALSO PRESENT ON THIS VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE CAUSING THE HEADLAMP DRL TO MALFUNCTION DUE TO A MOISTURE BUILD UP, OR THE UNIT IS ALL TOGETHER DEFECTIVE FOR A CERTAIN GROUPING OF CX-5'S WITH THIS HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY I FEEL A RECALL INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE MALFUNCTION. I FEEL THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE AS IT WAS LEARNED THERE WAS A RECENT NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THESE HEADLAMPS, I FIND THAT SUSPICIOUS IF THEY WERE TO BE IN PROPER WORKING ORDER.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. PROBLEM IS REPRODUCED DURING EVERY TRIP OR BY TURNING ON THE PARKING LIGHTS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. WHEN PURCHASED, I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE NEW LED LIGHTS AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T BURN OUT LIKE OLD-STYLE LAMPS. THEY HAVE STOPPED FUNCTIONING LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER MY 3-YEAR/36,000-MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I HAVE DRIVEN LESS THAN 22,500 MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP IS QUOTING ME $1,500 TO REPAIR WHAT SHOULD BE <$100 (CONSERVATIVELY) FOR LEDS. LOOKING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT FROM OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE, AND APPARENTLY MAZDA HAS REVISED THE REPLACEMENT PART NUMEROUS TIMES BUT PEOPLE ARE STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS AND COSTS TO CONSUMERS ARE INCREASING FOR THIS SAFETY FEATURE.
CAR IS A 2016.5 MAZDA CX-5 WITH APPROX 12,000 MILES. CAR BEGAN MAKING A GRINDING SOUND WHILE DRIVING; MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MAZDA TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE MAY 11, 2018, PICKED UP THE VEHICLE MAY 12, 2018. SERVICE TECHNICIAN STATED IT WAS THE VEHICLES BRAKES, WHICH ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND WOULD NEED TO BE PAID OUT OF POCKET. I WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR I NEEDED NEW BRAKES DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE AND AGE OF THE VEHICLE SO I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY PERSONAL MECHANIC, TO GET A SECOND OPINION, BEFORE HAVING ANY EXPENSIVE REPAIRS PERFORMED BY MAZDA. LOCAL MECHANIC (MIDAS SHOP) SAID THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE ENTIRELY WORN DOWN (OUTER PADS ONLY) AND HAD WORN DOWN SO MUCH, THEY HAD DAMAGED THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WHILE THE REAR INNER PADS APPEARED TO HAVE MINIMAL WEAR CONSISTENT WITH THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. FRONT BRAKES ALSO LOOKED TO HAVE MINIMAL WEAR CONSISTENT WITH THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. MIDAS RECOMMENDED THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS BE CHANGED IMMEDIATELY FOR SAFETY PURPOSES; AND COMMENTED HOW UNUSUAL THIS BRAKE PROBLEM SEEMED. UPON GETTING HOME, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND TSB #04-005-16-3217; NHTSA #10092486 (AMONGST OTHERS) THAT TELL OF A SIMILAR ISSUE. UPON GOING BACK TO MAZDA WITH THE BRAKES AND ROTORS THAT HAD PREMATURELY FAILED AND EXPLAINING THE TSB'S ONLINE, AND REQUESTING A REFUND FOR THE MONEY SPENT AT THE LOCAL SHOP; I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I JUST FEEL THAT MAZDA SHOULD HAVE REPLACED MY BRAKES AND ROTORS UPON MY INITIAL VISIT, KNOWING THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE IN CARS WITH LOW MILEAGE.
LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS BEGIN TO FLICKER AND THEN FAIL WITHIN JUST 2-3 YEARS OF REGULAR USE. THE DRL LIGHTS CANNOT BE EASILY REPLACED WITH A LIGHT BULB/REPLACEMENT LED DUE TO THE LED CHIPS BEING SOLDERED TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. FULL HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED. WHEN DRL ARE OFF IT CAN POTENTIALLY CREATE SAFETY HAZARDS FOR DRIVERS OF VEHICLE AND OTHER VEHICLES AROUND.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 MAZDA CX-5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT RECOIL ONCE ADJUSTED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000.
2016 MAZDA CX-5 SUV PASSENGER SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT STARTED FLICKERING AND BECAME DIM AT ONLY AROUND 12K MILES. MY WARRANTY HAS ALREADY EXPIRED DUE TO THE FACT THAT I BOUGHT IT IN 2015 TIME FRAME. THE FACT THAT MANY OTHER CX-5 OWNERS ALSO HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM, AT VERY LOW MILEAGES, SUGGEST THAT THERE IS DEFINITELY A PRODUCT DEFECT WHICH IS ALSO A SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM, GIVEN MORE TIME DOWN THE LINE.
PASSANGER SIDE DAY TIME RUNNING HEADLIGHTS BEGAN FLICKERING FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND THEN SIMPLY WENT OUT. THIS CAR IS BRAND NEW WITHIN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF AND IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE FULL HEADLAMP UNIT AS IT IS LED AND MAZDA KNOWINGLY INSTALLED THESE FAULTY HEADLAMPS. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHER DOCUMENTED CASES OF THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET.
SHORTLY AFTER GOING OVER 36,000 MILES (STANDARD WARRANTY EXPIRATION) THE DRIVER'S SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT (DRL) LED'S DIMMED AND THEN FLICKER CONTINUOUSLY. THIS SHOULD BE A SIMPLE LED BULB, TRANSFORMER, OR BALLAST REPLACEMENT, BUT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP QUOTED $1,275 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. APPARENTLY THE DRL LED'S ARE NOT INDIVIDUALLY SERVICEABLE. AFTER DOING SOME QUICK RESEARCH, THERE ARE MULTIPLE MAZDA CX-5 OWNER FORUMS REPORTING THIS ISSUE BETWEEN 24,000 AND 36,000 MILES AFFECTING BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DRL LED'S. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THE FACT THAT THERE ARE COUNTRIES AND STATES THAT REQUIRE DRL USE. TYPICALLY, IF A HEADLIGHT BULB GOES OUT IT IS A MAINTENANCE COST OF SOMEWHERE AROUND $25 TO $50 DOLLARS. AN LED BULB WOULD TYPICALLY COST MORE, BUT TO POTENTIALLY SPEND $10,000 DOLLARS (8 HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES AT $1,250 EACH) OVER THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE (TYPICALLY 120,000 MILES) SEEMS A LITTLE EXCESSIVE. I AM HOPING FOR A FUTURE SERVICE BULLETIN FROM MAZDA TO COVER THIS DESIGN DEFECT (SIMILAR TO THE ONE REGARDING THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY GAS CLOUDING ISSUE).
I RECENTLY BOUGHT A USED 2016 MAZDA CX-5. FIVE DAYS LATER, I WENT TO GET IN IT AFTER WORK (NOT A HOT DAY) AND FOUND A CRACK RUNNING FROM UNDER THE TOP SEAM STRAIGHT DOWN AND THEN FEATHERING OUT. NO IMPACT DAMAGE. PARKED IN A SECURED LOT. IT DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT, SO I LOOKED UP MAZDA WINDSHIELDS AND FOUND OUT OTHERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I FOUND THE CRACK DISTRACTING AS I DROVE, ESPECIALLY IF I NEEDED TO LOOK OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE. TOOK MY CAR TO MAZDA THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEY AGREED IT LOOKED STRANGE, BUT SAID THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY WINDSHIELD ISSUES. AND YET I FOUND MANY OTHERS ON LINE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.
LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FLICKER DIMLY AND THEN DON'T WORK. CAN'T REPLACE THEM UNLESS YOU REPLACE THE ENTIRE LIGHTING ASSEMBLY.
THE DRL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLICKED THEN FAILED AROUND 12K MILE IN APRIL 2018. NOT LONG AFTER THAT, THE DRL ON THE DRIVER SIDE FLICKED THEN FAILED AROUND 16K MILE SOMETIME IN 2019. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE RIGHT NOW IS ONLY ABOUT 20K MILES !! ( WE ARE RETIREES AND HAVE 2 VEHICLES)
