TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS PLACING AIR INTO THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE, HE FOUND THAT THE VALVE STEM WAS CORRODED AND FRACTURED. IN ADDITION, THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEAN PATTERSON CHEVROLET CADILLAC (101 PLEASANT VALLEY BLVD, ALTOONA, PA 16602, (814) 942-2222) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOR AND VALVE STEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
2 VALVE STEMS FROM THE TPMS SENSORS ARE LEAKING AIR. THAT PROVOKED AN INSTANT LOSS OF TOTAL AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES !!!! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEEDS. IT SEEMS MAZDA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN SB-02-001-12 BUT NOT A RECALL AT THIS TIME (MARCH 4 2015) FROM 4 TPMS SENSORS ON THE 2009 MAZDA 6, TWO (2) OF THEM FAILED ONE DAY AFTER ANOTHER. BOTH SENSORS FAILED AT THE VALVE STEM. HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 SENSORS DUE TO BEING AFRAID THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE COULD HAPPENED AT 60 MILES/H ON THE INTERSTATE. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE TPMS SENSORS IS CONTINENTAL AND THEY ALREADY HAVE A DIFFERENT PART # FOR THE SENSOR (CONTINENTAL VDI REDI-SENSOR SE10001HP-AZ). ALSO MAZDA HAS A DIFFERENT PART # FOR THE NEW SENSORS: BBM2-37-140B. I WAS SURPRISED HOW MAZDA DIDN'T ISSUE A RECALL BY NOW. I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ON ONLINE FORUMS OR WEBSITES SPECIALIZED IN CAR ISSUES. *TR
DURING NORMAL USE, VALVE STEM BROKE HALFWAY DOWN THE STEM WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE VALVE STEM AND TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ON THAT ONE WHEEL. *TR
WHILE CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE IN A CUSTOMER'S CAR THE VALVE STEM BROKE CAUSING ALL AIR TO ESCAPE FROM THE TIRE AND NECESSITATING THE PURCHASE OF A NEW TPMS SENSOR. *TR
DRIVING ON I-94 WEST,NEAR ANN ARBOR, MI. FELT VIBRATION, THEN LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW. MANAGED TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER AND CHANGED TIRE. INSPECTED DAMAGED TIRE AND NOTICED VALVE STEM AND SENSOR WERE MISSING. THE NEXT DAY CHECKED THE OTHER TIRES FOR PROPER INFLATION AND WHEN I TRIED TO REMOVE THE VALVE CAP FROM THE RIGHT REAR TIRE,IT BLEW OFF WITH THE CORE STEM AND THE TIRE WENT FLAT. HAD BOTH TIRES REPAIRED,NEW SENSORS AND TIRE. I HAD NEW TIRES INSTALLED ON 1-11-14 AND TWO SENSORS WERE CHANGED AT THAT TIME. SO THREE OUT OF THE FOUR SENSORS FAILED WITH ONE BLOWN TIRE . *JS
2009 MAZDA 6. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TIRE SENSOR VALVE ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED FREQUENTLY. IT WAS DETERMINED, THE VALVE WAS CORRODED. THE VALVE WAS REPLACED WITH A CHEAPER ONE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A FLAT ON ANOTHER TIRE DUE TO CORROSION AND A CRACKED SENSOR VALVE. THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR VALVES DUE TO CORROSION. *JB
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR THE AIR VALVE ON ONE OF THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ON OUR MAZDA CORRODED AND SNAPPED OFF AS I WAS PUTTING AIR IN THE TIRE. I'M VERY GRATEFUL THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND NOT WHILE MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR. *TR
VALVE STEM SHEARED OFF OF TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED YESTERDAY. DURING THE OIL CHANGE, THE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFLATED THE TIRES TO 32LBS EACH. TODAY THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM INDICATED A LOW TIRE. PASSENGER REAR TIRE WAS 23.5 POUNDS. AS I WAS PUTTING AIR IN THE TIRE, THE VALVE STEM LITERALLY SHEARED OFF CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF AIR AND A FLAT TIRE. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAILED WHILE TRAVELING DOWN HIGHWAY, WHEN FINALLY ABLE TO PULL OVER TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT AND RUINED, VALVE STEM FELL APART IN HAND WHILE TRYING TO REMOVE VALVE STEM CAP, THIS IS THE 3RD OCCURRENCE WHILE OWNING THIS VEHICLE, VERY LUCKY THIS TIME THAT IT WAS A BACK TIRE AND NOT A FRONT. EACH TIME THAT I HAVE COMPLAINED TO DEALERSHIP, I AM TOLD THAT THE TIRE SHOPS THAT ARE REPLACING MY TIRES DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING OF WHICH I DISAGREE. I HAVE SEEN MANY FORUMS REGARDING THIS ISSUE WITH MAZDA 3'S AND 6'S, EACH TIME BEING TOLD THE TIRE SHOPS DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. MAZDA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ACKNOWLEDGE A POOR DESIGN, COME UP WITH A BETTER ONE AND RECALL THESE BAD TIRE SENSOR VALVES BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
WHEN I WENT TO GO REMOVE THE VALVE STEM CAP TO CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE, THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF WITH THE VALVE CAP REVEALING THE VALVE CORE. THE TIRE WAS DEFLATED WITHIN SECONDS. FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE VALVE STEM SHOWED THAT IT WAS CORRODED. THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF EXACTLY AT THE POINT WHERE THE CAP WAS SCREWED TO. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT COVER THE COST FOR REPAIRS AS MY CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. THE COST FOR REPAIRS CAME FROM MY POCKET. *TR

THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE DEFLATED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE VALVE STEM FOR THE FOUR TIRES. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE VALVE WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED BY CORROSION.THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE FOUR VALVE STEMS AND THE TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,888.
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE LOW PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I ATTEMPTED TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO CHECK MY TIRE BUT THE TIRE WENT FLAT TOO QUICKLY. I HAD TO CHANGE THE TIRE ON THE ROAD. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING DEVICE HAD FAILED AND FALLEN INSIDE THE TIRE RESULTING IN A RAPID PRESSURE DROP. CORROSION HAD CAUSED THE NUT TO BREAK APART AND FALL OFF. WITHIN 6 MONTHS THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON A DIFFERENT TIRE. DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO WATCH MY TIRE RAPIDLY GOING FLAT - ALL WITHIN ABOUT 20 SECONDS. I CHANGED MY TIRE ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON A MULTI-LANE THRUWAY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD - THE MANDATED SAFETY DEVICE IS THE CAUSE OF THE HAZARD. *TR
VALVE STEM CRACKED THEN COMPLETELY BROKE OFF UNDER THE PLASTIC CAP. THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON 2-3 DAYS PRIOR TO INCIDENT. EACH MORNING WHEN COLD DURING FIRST START UP LIGHT WOULD COME ON, AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING AFTER VEHICLE WARMED LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF. ON WAY HOME FROM WORK TRAVELING 70MPH LIGHT CAME BACK ON. TOOK THE NEXT EXIT AND STOPPED AT GAS STATION TO FILL UP TIRES, REMOVED VALVE STEM CAP AND INSTALLED AIR HOSE. AIR HOSE COULD NOT FILL UP TIRE, AIR JUST CAME OUT OF THE SIDE OF STEM, REINSTALLED VALVE CAP. AT THAT TIME WE DIDN'T KNOW THE STEM WAS CRACKED SO I DROVE THE CAR VERY SLOWLY APPROX 3 MILES TO MY PARENTS HOUSE SO MY DAD COULD HELP. HE TRIED TO REMOVE THE VALVE CAP, AT THIS TIME THE STEM COMPLETELY BROKE OFF AT THE THREADS AND STAYED WITH THE CAP. THE STEM INTERNAL PARTS SPRANG OUT SO IT WAS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE TIRE AND INSTALL THE SPARE. WE TOOK THE TIRE TO NEAREST BELLE TIRE SO THEY COULD REPLACE THE STEM BUT SINCE IT WAS A DEALER ONLY PART ALL THEY COULD WAS REPLACE IT WITH A STANDARD RUBBER STEM WITH NO SENSOR. THEY MENTIONED IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THEY HAD SEEN BEFORE, TO WHICH I WAS VERY SURPRISED. THESE SENSORS WERE CREATED TO COMBAT LOW AIR PRESSURE AFTER THE "TREAD ACT" AND IRONICALLY ARE CAUSING A LOW AIR PRESSURE. THE ORIGINAL CAUSE OF THE PRESSURE LIGHT WAS DUE TO A SLIGHTLY BENT RIM ON THE INSIDE. THIS HAD A SLOW LEAK AFTER BELLE TIRE REPLACED THE STEM. WE TOOK THE TIRE TO BRIGHTON MAZDA THE FOLLOWING DAY TO REPLACE THE SENSOR, THEY TOO SAID THEY HAD SEEN CRACKED STEMS IN THE PAST. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND DETERMINE IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I THINK ITS VERY IRONIC THIS IS HAPPENING WHEN THE FREE RUBBER STEMS ALMOST NEVER FAIL AND $70 SENSORS ARE BREAKING ON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE TIRES OR THE VALVE STEM. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED TWICE. THE DEALER FIRST REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERS EXPENSE BUT DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRING THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THE CAR ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE; HOWEVER, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT MY RIM WOULD CRACK AS I'M DRIVING. LIKE I SAID A MILLION TIMES TO SO MANY PEOPLE, I DID NOT HIT A CURB, OR A BUMP FOR THE RIM TO CRACK. I HAVE ONE RIM ISSUE AND ALL THE OTHERS ARE JUST FINE. THIS IS MY RIM STORY FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END... IN THE WEEK OF AUGUST 15TH-21ST, 2010, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ALL OF A SUDDEN. I GOT NERVOUS AND I NOTICED MY FRONT-RIGHT TIRE WAS SOMEWHAT LOW. I WENT TO PEP BOYS TO HAVE AIR PUT INTO THE TIRE. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE LIGHT APPEARED AGAIN AND I WENT TO ANOTHER PEP BOYS TO HAVE AIR PUT INTO THE TIRE. THE WARNING LIGHT DISAPPEARED AFTER IT WAS WORKED ON. THEN THE WARNING LIGHT APPEARED AGAIN AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS AND I WENT BACK TO PEP BOYS TO HAVE THE FRONT-RIGHT TIRE CHECKED AGAIN. THE YOUNG MAN SAID TO ME, "MISS, THERE IS A CRACK INSIDE OF YOUR FRONT-RIGHT RIM." I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO REPAIRS RIMS AND REPAIR MY RIM. EVERYTHING WAS FINE AFTER THE RIM WAS REPAIRED. THEN I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MAZDA CORPORATION ABOUT RECALLS. I HAD THOSE DONE AND THE DEALER SAID, "I NEED TO GET MY TIRES CHECKED AGAIN." I LEFT THE DEALER AND WENT TO FIRESTONE AND THEY REPAIRED THE CRACKED RIM (2ND TIME). ON JANUARY 11, 2014, MY AUNT AND I RETURNED FROM FOOD SHOPPING AROUND 3PM. I PARKED THE CAR AT MY AUNT'S HOUSE TO UNPACK THE FOOD FROM THE TRUNK. MY AUNT, COUSIN AND I WERE GETTING SOME OF THE FOOD OUT OF THE CAR, WHEN ALL THREE OF US HEARD AIR (WHOOOOOOSH) BEING BLOWN OUT OF A TIRE FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. WE ALL STOOD STILL AND LOOKED TO SEE WHICH CAR THE AIR WAS COMING FROM. THEN MY COUSIN LOOK AT MY CAR SAID, "[XXX], DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A FLAT?" I JUST COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS WAS HAPPENING AGAIN! DEAR SIR I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW MAZDA 6 CAR FITTED WITH DUNLOP TIRES SP2050 .WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT AND CAUSES A HOLE BETWEEN THE TIER WRING AND THE SURFACE THAT TOUCH THE ROAD. ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS MOVING ABOUT 80 KMPH. MY FAMILY AND MYSELF LIFE WAS EXPOSED TO DANGER WHEN THIS INCIDENT WAS HAPPENED. THE CAR IS BRAND NEW IT WAS MADE ONLY 16,400KM. WHEN I WENT TO CLAIM FOR TIER REPLACEMENT BUT BOTH MAZDA AND DUNLOP AGENTS DENIED RESPONSIBILITY THAT THIS IS A DEFECTIVE TIER. *TR
