MY CLUTCH PEDAL SNAPPED AGAIN FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 2 YEARS, !@#$%??? WHEN IS MAZDA RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?? UNTIL SOME ONE DIES???? *TR
DASHBOARD OVER AIRBAG BEGAN TO CRACK OVER THE AIRBAG ON 01/102010. AS THE MONTHS WENT ON, IT GOT MUCH BIGGER. I HAVE CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER AND ALSO MAZDA USA. THEY SEEM TO DODGE THE WHOLE THING, OR SAY ITS JUST COSMETIC.I'M AFRAID FOR MY FAMILYS SAFTEY, WITH THE WHOLE AIRBAG MAYBE COMING OUT.I'M GLAD THAT I HAVE AN EXTRA WARRANTY BECAUSE SO MANY THINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TT
I OWN A 2005 MAZDA RX-8 WITH 51XXX MILES ON IT. DRIVING HOME I STEPPED ONTO THE CLUTCH PRION TO A TURN AND SNAP! THE CAR WAS LOCKED IN SECOND GEAR AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS NOT RETURNING TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. ONLY A FEW MILES HOME, I REALIZED THE CLUTCH PEDAL BRACKET BROKE ON THE LEFT SIDE AROUND THE BOLT. IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS CHEAPLY MADE AND POORLY WELDED. I ALSO GOT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE IF I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGHER SPEED AND GOT LOCKED IN GEAR. I AM TAKING THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE BRACKET. *TR
I'VE BEEN HEARING THIS SQUEAKING SOUND COMING FROM MY CLUTCH FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AGO I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I FELT/HEARD A POPPING SOUND. MY CLUTCH PEDAL WAS NOW ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I ASSUMED MY CLUTCH WAS GONE BUT THE CAR STILL DROVE HOME I WAS 1/2 MILE FROM HOME. I DROVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY HOME. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MAZDA TODAY AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY CLUTCH BRACKET IS BROKEN. THE ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THIS IS ROUGHLY 500$. *TR
I BOUGHT A USED MAZDA RX8 (2005 WITH ABOUT 60 THOUSAND MILES) WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. AFTER ABOUT 3 MONTHS OF DAILY DRIVING (NO RACING OR HARD SHIFTING) MY CLUTCH PEDAL BROKE WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE PEDAL IN PLACE BROKE DUE TO ITS VERY THIN METAL DESIGN. UPON RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY RX-8 OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE INSTALLED A REINFORCED BRACKET AT MY OWN EXPENSE AND STILL NEED TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS BECAUSE IT HAS UNALIGNED THE GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION. IF THIS BREAK WOULD HAVE OCCURRED AT ANY OTHER TIME I BELIEVE IT COULD EASILY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THE HIGHWAY GETTING TO SCHOOL AND I BELIEVE THAT AT 65 MPH THIS BREAK WOULD HAVE AT LEAST DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED AND A RECALL MUST BE IMPLEMENTED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA RX8. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MAT BECAME STUCK UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE UNTIL THE MATS WERE TAKEN OUT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT BUT OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000.
DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR GOT CRACKED AT THE TOP OF THE SEAM AND NOW ALWAYS HANGS DOWN IN DRIVERS LINE OF SIGHT. *TR
THE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY FAILS WHILE DRIVING WHEN THE 2004-2008 MAZDA RX-8 REACHES AROUND 45,000 MILES. WHEN THE PEDAL FAILS YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF GEAR OR PUT IT BACK INTO GEAR. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. LUCKILY, WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME I WAS LEAVING A STOP SIGN ABOUT ONE BLOCK FROM MY HOME. MANY PEOPLE ON AN RX-8 FORUM (RX8CLUB.COM), HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OCCUR AND IT IS TYPICALLY NEAR 45,000 MILES. MAZDA DOES NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. *TR
THE MAZDA RX-8 IS HAVING AN ISSUE THAT IS COMING UP MORE FREQUENTLY NOW FROM A FAULTY A/C SWITCH OR HEATING SYSTEM FAILURE. THE HEAT DOES NOT COME INTO THE VEHICLE WHEN THE HEAT IS TURNED ON AND ONLY COLD AIR COMES INTO VEHICLE. THE FAILURE HAPPENS IN THE BEGINNING ONLY RANDOMLY UNTIL THE UNIT COMPLETELY FAILS. THE A/C MODULAR IS A ELECTRONIC SWITCH THAT CHANGES VENTS AND A/C OR HEAT. THE VENT MECHANISM STILL FUNCTIONS BUT THE HEAT IS NEVER TRANSFERRED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONSEQUENCES FROM THIS ITEM FAILING, ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER TIME, THE WINDSHIELD CANNOT BE DEFROSTED AND DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WAY HUMAN EXHAUSTION WILL CAUSE THE WINDOW FOG UP IMPAIRING DRIVER'S VISION. AS WELL AS COLD TEMPERATURES WITHIN THE VEHICLE THAT DO NOT SUFFICE WHILE DRIVING IN COLD WEATHER. *TR
THE CLUTCH BRACKET ON MY VEHICLE BROKE AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT IN AN INTERSECTION. I CAN BARELY SHIFT NOW AND AFTER READING ABOUT IT I SEE THAT SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
MY CLUTCH PEDAL ON MY 2005 MAZDA RX8 SNAPPED WHILE CHANGING GEARS (3-4) ON THE FREEWAY. LAST MONTH THERE WERE NOISES COMING FROM THE CLUTCH PEDAL [SQUEAKING] AND AFTER THE PEDAL SNAPPED THE PEDAL DOES NOT FULLY POP BACK ALL THE WAY UP. IN ORDER TO GET THE PEDAL IN THE RIGHT POSITION I HAVE TO GET MY FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING IN ORDER TO PULL THE PEDAL UP IN THE RIGHT POSITION. [EVERY TIME I SWITCH GEARS] IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE [WHICH WAS THE WEAK WELDS ON THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY SNAPPED] I HAVE TO GET IT REWELDED AND ADD EXTRA SUPPORT WELDS. *TR
THE CLUTCH PEDAL ON MY 2005 MAZDA RX-8 IS EXTREMELY SQUEAKY AND SEEMS TO BE ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING. WHEN PRESSED DOWN UPON, IT SQUEAKS AND IT ALSO MOVES LEFT AND RIGHT MORE THAN IT SHOULD. I HAVE READ DOZENS OF OTHER REPORTS OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL ACTUALLY SNAPPING AND I AM QUITE WORRIED THAT MY CLUTCH PEDAL IS CLOSE TO BREAKING AS WELL. *TR

A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS PURCHASED FROM A MAZDA DEALER IN MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO ON AUGUST 29, 2009. THE SAME WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE, A 2005 MAZDA RX-8 SHINKA MODEL, ONE WEEK AFTER THE PURCHASE SINCE WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE ARRIVAL OF THIS PART AND A NEW SET OF SPARK PLUGS THAT WAS ALSO PURCHASED AT A PRICE OF $200.00. THE CAR WAS NOT IN USE UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2009. ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 THE CAR HAD A FAILURE AND I COULD SEE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR AND THE CAR TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I COULD SMELL BURNT PLASTIC AND SAW MELTED PLASTIC COMING BELOW THE CAR. THE DAY ALL THIS HAPPENED, IT WAS RAINING SO THE CAR WAS PROTECTED FROM A FIRE DUE TO THE RAIN. I GOT PICTURES OF SOME OF THE MELTED PARTS. AFTER THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HEAT PRODUCED BY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BURNED THE NEW SPARK PLUGS, THE SPARK PLUGS CABLES, THE MODULES AND THAT THERE WAS ASH ON THE SYSTEM THAT NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THEY DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE ALL THE PARTS THAT BURNED AT THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTER SINCE MY CAR GUARANTEE WAS NO LONGER VALID. THEY DID NOT MAKE ANY EFFORTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM KNOWING THAT ALL THE DAMAGES WERE DUE TO THE FAULTY CONDITION OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY WILL ONLY PROVIDE A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER ($1500.00 COST) BUT I HAVE TO PAY ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT FOR THE REST OF THE DAMAGE. I KNEW THAT ANOTHER CLIENT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON THE SAME MODEL OF CAR AND THAT THE PART WAS ALSO SUPPLIED BY AUTOLAND. I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. MAZDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGES PRODUCED BY THE FAILURE OF THEIR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. *TR UDATED 01/13/10. *JB
1. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND POOR CHOICE OF MATERIALS FOR THE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY. 2. THE CAR IN QUESTION IS A 2005 MAZDA RX8. THE CLUTCH PEDAL EVENTUALLY HAD MOVEMENT LEFT-TO-RIGHT AND THE WELDS ON THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY BROKE. I WAS LEFT UNABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. 3. THE ENTIRE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BY A LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP UNDER BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY DID CLEARLY STATE THAT THE EXACT SAME PART WAS USED TO REPLACE IT. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REVISIONS TO THE WELDS AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL STARTED CREAKING AGAIN! *TR
WATER LEAKS INTO THE REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES. CORROSION AFFECTS THE OPERATION OF THE TAIL LIGHTS, TURN AND STOP SIGNALS. MAZDAUSA CLAIMS THIS IS "NORMAL". *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE TYPICAL SIGNS OF A FAULTY CLUTCH PEDAL. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AS THE PEOPLE HAD BEFORE THEIR CLUTCH BROKE. THIS ISSUE STARTED AROUND TWO MONTHS AGO. THE PEDAL SQUEAKS VERY LOUD AND HAS GIVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE AS WELL AS IN AND OUT. I HAVE A 2005 MAZDA RX8, 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. *TR
2005 MAZDA RX8 WITH 53,000 MILES. CLUTCH PEDAL HAS BEEN SQUEAKING FOR THE PAST 8-10K MILES. I COMPLAINED ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO MAZDAS SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY DID NOTHING. TODAY MY CLUTCH PEDAL SNAPPED OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MAZDA NEEDS TO USE BETTER WELDING ON THE BRACKET. THE TWO SPOT WELDS DON'T HOLD UP FOR VERY LONG. *TR
CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FAULTY DESIGN. WHILE DRIVING AND SHIFTING GEARS (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) THE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY SNAPS, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF ABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS. I WAS LUCKY AND HAD THIS HAPPEN IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. I HATE TO THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR WITH ME. *TR
I OWN A 2005 MAZDA RX8 WITH 35,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP RECENTLY FOR A ROUGH IDLE AND HARD START PROBLEM. AFTER MUCH COSTLY INVESTIGATION (COSTLY TO ME 590$), IT WAS FOUND THAT MY RENESIS ENGINE IS LOSING COMPRESSION AND COULD POSSIBLY FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. AFTER CONTACTING CORPORATE HQ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THE DEALERSHIP TESTED THE ENGINE WHICH PASSED BY A MINIMAL PERCENT, JUST ENOUGH NOT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER SOME PERSONAL RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER, I'VE FOUND HUNDREDS OF OTHER RX8 OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH LITTLE OR NO HELP FROM MAZDA OTHER THAN REPLACING THE DAMAGED ENGINE WITH THE SAME MODEL OF FAULTY ENGINE. REPORTS FROM OWNERS OF ENGINES DYING IN THE MIDDLE OF DANGEROUS A INTERSECTIONS AND SUCH ARE VERY UNSETTLING BEING AN OWNER MYSELF HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN OWNERS THAT ARE NOW ON THEIR SECOND AND THIRD ENGINES AS WELL WITH SEEMINGLY NO END TO THE REPAIRS. IN MY CASE, THE DEALERSHIP GUARANTEED THAT MY ENGINE WOULD FAIL WITHIN SIX MONTHS SO TO "BE CAREFUL" AND "KEEP AND EYE ON IT". THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THESE ENGINES AND I THINK THEY ARE UNSAFE. MAZDA HAS ADDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO THESE ENGINES FOR UP TO 100,000 MILES BUT THAT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THESE ENGINES FAILING WHILE IN MOTION OR IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. IT ONLY REPLACES ONE BURNT OUT BOMB WITH A BOMB WITH A NEW FUSE. I SERIOUSLY THINK THIS SHOULD FALL UNDER THE "LEMON-LAW" AND I WOULD LIKE MORE TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT SEEMS RX8 OWNERS ARE BEING LEFT WITHOUT OPTIONS HERE EXCEPT TO MAKE LEMONADE FROM THEIR 30,000$ LEMON. I HAVE A MAZDA RX8 2005. IT REPEATEDLY STALLS AND HAS NEEDED A NEW ENGINE TWICE IN LESS THAN A YEAR. MAZDA COVERED THE FIRST ENGINE BUT IS NOW REFUSING THE SECOND. I AM AWARE THAT THESE PARTICULAR VEHICLES HAVE MANY PROBLEMS. *TR
2005 MAZDA RX8 QUITS RUNNING AND WILL NOT RESTART -REMOVED SPARK PLUGS CLEANED AND STARTED-QUIT BEFORE GOT HOME SAME PROBLEM. DON'T KILL ENGINE UNLESS ABOVE 3000 RPM OR ENGINE IS WARM. ENGINE QUIT REPLACED SPARK COIL QUIT BEFORE GOT HOME WAS TOLD CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFECTIVE AND WILL DAMAGE MUFFLER. CAR WAS TOWED EACH TIME TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP. NOW THEY CLAIM NEEDS NEW ENGINE. *TR
1. FOR A FEW WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, I HEARD SQUEAKING COMING FROM THE CLUTCH PEDAL EACH TIME I USED IT. 2. THE CLUTCH PEDAL BRACKET, WHICH HOLDS THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO THE BODY OF THE CAR, SNAPPED OFF, RENDERING THE CLUTCH INOPERABLE AND THE CAR UNABLE TO ENGAGE/CHANGE GEARS. 3. THE CLUTCH BRACKET AND CLUTCH PEDAL HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH OEM PARTS. *TR
IT STARTED TO CLICK AND SQUEAK. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHEN THE PEDAL BRACKET SNAPPED WHEN ME AND MY CHILDREN ALMOST GOT HIT BY A COAL TRUCK BECAUSE OF THIS. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO MY DADS SHOP AND WELD IT WHICH I'M STILL UNSURE OF HOW LONG IT WILL LAST SINCE THE METAL IS THIN AND IT IS SQUEAKING AGAIN. *TR
HAD AN INCIDENT TODAY WHERE MY RX-8 HAD BEEN T-BONED AT AN INTERSECTION. MY SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY THOUGH. I HIT MY HEAD AGAINST THE INTERIOR DOORWELL AND HAVE A BIT OF WHIP-LASH. THEY HIT THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT SO MY DOOR DOESN'T OPEN ANY LONGER AND IN-FACT IT'S PUSHED UP A BIT FROM WHERE IT IS SUPPOSE TO SIT. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS A 1996 GEO METRO. *TR
DRIVING THE CAR IT CUTS OFF AND ROLLS BACKWARDS AND COULD POSSIBLE HIT ANOTHER CAR. WAS TOLD THAT SERVICE CENTER CHANGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE ON THE CAR AN WOULD NOT COVER A REPAIR LIKE THIS UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO MY NEGLECT OF NOT KNOWING THE NEW SCHEDULE THEY MADE UP. AND BECAUSE I FOLLOWED MY OWNERS MANUAL THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I FEEL THAT THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED TO WHY THE CUT OFF THIS IS A DANGER TO ANYONE WHO IS DRIVING TO HAVE A CAR CUT OFF AN ROLL BACKWARDS. MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA RX-8. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 10-30MPH; PROCEEDING TO MAKE A TURN. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO STICK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE STEERED IN ONE DIRECTION. THE DRIVER MANEUVERED THE STEERING WHEEL IN A FORWARD AND BACKWARD POSITION TO RELEASE IT. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE POWER STEERING RACK. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. UPDATED 3/16/10 *CN UPDATED 05/10/10*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA RX8. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE. THE ENGINE HAD LOW COMPRESSION. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHO WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
I HAD MY 2005 MAZDA RX-8 TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY WAS BROKEN AND WAS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND SHIFT GEARS, I BELIEVE IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD AND IS POOR WORKMANSHIP. I'VE HEARD THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON ON RX-8'S THAT AFTERMARKET COMPANIES ARE PRODUCING CLUTCH PEDAL REINFORCEMENT KITS. YOU KNOW IT'S REALLY A PROBLEM WHEN AFTERMARKET COMPANIES ADDRESS AND FLAW IN A PRODUCT. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S PART OF THE CLUTCH AND SAFETY OF THE CAR. MY MOST RECENT VISIT THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN.. THE OTHER NIGHT I WAS OUT WITH MY GIRLFRIEND DRIVING LONG DISTANCES AND MY PEDAL BEGAN TO FEEL REALLY STRANGE AND IT DIDN'T SEEM TO WANT TO SHIFT PROPERLY.. I DROP HER OFF AND I GO HOME THE NEXT MORNING I WAKE UP TO CLEAN MY CAR AND I BACK UP AND THEN MOVE FORWARD AND MY SHIFTER IS COMPLETELY STUCK! AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS LITERALLY TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL.. I TRIED TO SEE I COULD STILL TURN THE CAR ON AND THE PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR AS IF THERE WERE NO CLUTCH FLUID.. FORTUNATELY WE WERE NOT DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED BUT THIS IS A DANGER TO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AFTER FRONT AND SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE (VEHICLE MIGHT BE TOTALED). SPEED AT IMPACT WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 60 MPG RESULTING IN INJURY TO DRIVER AND PASSENGER. *TR

A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT BECAUSE HIS VEHICLE EXCEEDED ITS WARRANTY, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 24,000.
CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FAULTY DESIGN. WHILE DRIVING AND SHIFTING GEARS (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) THE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY SNAPS, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF ABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CAR HAD TO BE STARTED IN 1ST GEAR TO DRIVE TO SAFETY. THE THIN METAL TEARS AWAY FROM AROUND ONE OF THE BOLTS THAT HOLDS THE ASSEMBLY TO THE FIREWALL. THIS IS HAPPENING ON OTHER RX-8'S OF PEOPLE I ASSOCIATE WITH TO THE POINT THAT WELDING UP THE OLD BRACKET IS BECOMING COMMON. MAZDA HAS NOT COME UP WITH A STRONGER ASSEMBLY SINCE THEY INTRODUCED THE RX-8 IN 2004. THE ALTERNATIVES TO CORRECT THE ISSUE (OUT OF WARRANTY) IS TO: (A) PURCHASE A NEW ONE FROM MAZDA. (B) HAVE YOUR OLD ASSEMBLY WELDED OR PURCHASE A REMANUFACTURED WELDED ONE. (C) PURCHASE A BRACKET THAT ADDS SUPPORT TO THE ASSEMBLY I DID BOTH B & C, WELDED AND ADDED SUPPORT. *TR

THIS CLUTCH BRACKET PROBLEM IS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE IN THE RX-8 COMMUNITY, BUT MAZDA JUST KEEP REPLACING BROKEN BRACKETS AND WAIT FOR USER'S WARRANTY PERIOD IS OVER. I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT DO MAZDA MEAN BY "ONE TIME REPAIR" ONLY. WHAT I CONCERN NOW IS THAT. WHAT IF THE CLUTCH BRACKET BREAKS WHEN IM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MILES AN HOUR? IT WILL NOT BE FUNNY AND I MIGHT JUST DIE. ANOTHER THING IS THAT, MAZDA ALWAYS TRY TO BLAME IT ON AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR THEIR OWN FAILURE. THE FIELD REPRESENTATIVE AT MAZDA STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH THE CONTACT AND REFERRED HER TO SOMEONE AT THE MAZDA CORPORATE OFFICE. THE CONTACT HAS INVOICES. THE # OF CYLINDERS AND CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
2005 MAZDA RX8: UPON DRIVING I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD CRACK. THE CLUTCH PEDAL ON MY CAR FELT 'LOOSE' AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO DISCOVER THAT THE WELDS ON MY CLUTCH PEDAL HAD BROKEN. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT BRAKES (DUE TO TSB) REPAIRED THREE TIMES NOW. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 4K MILES AND THE BRAKES SQUEAKED, THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THEM AND WITHIN 1 WEEK THEY BEGAN TO SQUEAK AGAIN SO I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY CLEANED & ADJUSTED THEM. THEY STARTED SQUEAKING AGAIN I TOOK TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS AGAIN DUE TO THE BACKPLATE AND PAD WAS SOAKED WITH OIL.

I'VE HAD A TWO NEW RADIATORS AND MY DRIVER WINDOW WENT OUT ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE FROM THE VISOR FALLING OFF DURING THE HOT SUMMER BECAUSE IT JUST MELTED. HOW DOES A "SUN VISOR" MELT. I'VE HAD THE SHIFTING PADDLES REPLACED BECAUSE THEY JUST DIDN'T WORK AND I DON'T EVEN REALLY USE THEM, THE GAS CAP LOCK BROKE AND I HAD TO PRY IT OPEN SINCE THE EJECT NO LONGER WORKED... I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW SET OF POTENZA'S ON THE DEC 7. I HAD THEM MOUNTED ON IN THE AFTERNOON DEC 8. WENT STRAIGHT HOME 10 MILES AWAY. ON DEC 9, I NOTICED MY CAR WOULD SWERVE A BIT I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY, I SPUN OUT SIX OR SEVEN TIMES AT 45 MPH. I OWN A 2005 MAZDA RX8 6 SPEED. THE VEHICLE HAS 14,000 MILES. ON 5/30/06 THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL, SPUTTER AND MAKE A CLICKING NOISE AT OVER 4500 RPM. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO A NEARBY MAZDA DEALER. I WAS TOLD BY SERVICE PERSONNEL THAT 4 OTHER RX8'S WERE CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS HEAT RELATED AND MORE PREVALENT IN HOT CLIMATES. SERVICE PERSONNEL ADDED THAT THE ECU WOULD NEED TO BE SENT TO MAZDA TO BE REFLASHED. IF THAT DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM THE MOTOR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED A MAZDA DEALER IN LAS VEGAS IN ORDER TO SEE IF THEY WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THEY WERE. I CONFRONTED LOCAL MANAGEMENT AND ASKED IF THEY WERE INFORMING POTENTIAL AND/OR NEW BUYERS ABOUT THE MOTOR PROBLEM. HE STATED NO AND ADDED THAT HE WAS NOT REQUIRED TO DO SO. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON 6/8/06 SYMPTOM FREE. ON 6/12/06 THE SAME PROBLEMS RETURNED AND THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. *NM

WE WERE ALSO INFORMED THAT THE MAZDA DEALER WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS AS IT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. BESIDES THE FACT THAT WE HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT TO GET HIM OUT, THE FACT THAT HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE BUCKLE LOCKED INTO THE REAR RECEIVER AND COULD NOT DISENGAGE IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. 1. THE BELT WOULD NOT PROVIDE THE PROPER SAFETY IN A CRASH. 2. THE INABILITY TO GET OUT OF THE BELT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATALITY. BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE BELT AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE RECEIVER HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE REPAIR HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK AND IS NOT BEING COVERED BY MAZDA. *JB
