THE MOTOR OF THE MOON ROOF OF MY 2004 MERCEDES C230 HAS BURNED OUT. THE IS THE 2ND C230 I HAVE OWNED AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2002. *TR
THE CAM SENSORS ON THE MERCEDES M271 ENGINE LEAK OIL WHICH SPREADS TO OTHER COMPONENTS VIA THE WIRE HARNESSES CONNECTED TO CAM SENSORS. OIL CONTAMINATION WILL DAMAGE OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (NAMELY THE ECU AND EXHAUST OXYGEN SENSORS) IF THE CAM SENSORS AND WIRE HARNESSES ARE NOT REPLACED. A NEW CAM SENSOR AND WIRE HARNESS HAS BEEN DESIGNED AS THE CORRECTIVE ACTION. THE DEFECTIVE CAM SENSOR AND WIRE HARNESS WERE USED ON THE PREVIOUS ENGINE DESIGN (M111). THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR M111 ENGINE BUT NOT THE M271 ENGINE. MERCEDES REFUSES TO RECALL THIS DEFECTIVE DESIGN ON THE M271 ENGINE CAUSING OWNERS TO PAY FOR THE $900 PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. WITHOUT THIS REPAIR THE ECU (PART COST $2000) AND OXYGEN SENSORS (QTY 2 @ $250 EA) WILL BE EVENTUALLY DAMAGED AND WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED. *TR
I OWN A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ, C CLASS, 4-DOOR SEDAN AND WITHIN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS REFUSE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN, AFTER USING MY REMOTE TO SECURE MY DOORS AND NOW UNLOCK CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING. I'M CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF MY GRANDCHILD WHILE DRIVING AND THE SECURITY OF MY VEHICLE. *TR
THIS IS A 2004 MERCEDES C230. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I WENT TO DEALER WITHIN 15 MILES OF WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK AND THAT IT HAD DRIPPED OVER THE WIRING HARNESS. IT WOULD COST $3,500 TO REPAIR. I HAVE NEVER MISSED A MAINTENANCE ON THIS CAR. THEY SAID THE THIS HAPPENS BECAUSE OF WHERE THE O2 SENSOR IS LOCATED. THIS IS A DEFECT AND DESIGN FLOW CREATED BY MB. THEY SHOULD DO A RECALL TO PROTECT THE WIRING HARNESS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE OIL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE O2 SENSOR. THE O2 SENSORS WERE PLACED AUGUST 2009 BY THE DEALER; THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE ENGINE OIL BEGAN LEAKING ON THE SENSORS AGAIN SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAMSHAFT, WIRING HARNESS AND O2 SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000.
I OWN A 2004 MB C320 AND I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN IT REACHED 40,000 MILES THE CAR ITSELF STARTED MALFUNCTIONING FROM THE REAR WINDOW SHADE WOULDN'T GO DOWN FOR WHICH I ONLY USE OCCASIONALLY; THE AIR CONDITIONING WOULD TURN ON AND OFF; THE TEMP GAUGE IS INACCURATE; THE PASSENGER VISOR CAME OFF; THE CENTER CONSOLE WOULDN'T SHUT CLOSE AND THE. I WENT TO MB FOR THE YEARLY SERVICE- APRIL 2009 AND THEY WANTED $1300.00 FOR THE WINDOW SHADE; I THINK $500 FOR THE CENTER CONSOLE AND $125 FOR THE VISOR. AND THEY ALSO WANTED $800 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK FOR THE BLOWER AND I HAVE TO PAY WHATEVER PARTS THAT NEEDS REPLACING. NOW THE CAR IS ALMOST 60,000 MILES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME LAST WEEK. I NOTICE THE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I START THE ENGINE AND IT FAILS TO TURNOVER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD EVENTUALLY GO OUT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY WHEN IT DIDN'T START THE FIRST TIME, THE CEL CAME ON. I CHECKED THE GAS CAP AND IT LOOKS TIGHT TO ME. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE RADIATOR WOULD MAKE A VERY LOUD AND UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED. I THOUGHT I MADE A RIGHT DECISION OF BUYING A MERCEDES BENZ DUE TO THE FACT THE CAR HAVE A GREAT REPUTATION. WITH THE ECONOMY NOWADAYS AND THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE MB SERVICE ARE CHARGING I THINK IT'S RIDICULOUS FOR A FAIRLY NEW CAR. *TR
THIS IS A 2004 MERCEDES C230. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I WENT TO DEALER WITHIN 5 MILES OF WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK AND THAT IT HAD DRIPPED OVER SEVERAL COMPONENTS AND THE WIRING HARNESS. I WOULD COST $3,500 TO REPAIR BUT THEY ABSORBED THE LABOR COST AND IT SHOULD COST ABOUT $2,000. I HAVE NEVER MISSED A MAINTENANCE ON THIS CAR. THEY SAID THE THIS HAPPENS BECAUSE OF WHERE THE O2 SENSOR THAT LEAKED IS. IT SEEMS ODD TO HAVE MINOR ISSUE CAUSE SUCH ENORMOUS DAMAGE. *TR
MERCEDES BENZ C230 KOMPRESSOR SPORT SEDAN BEGAN TO LEAK OIL INTO THE CAM MAGNET SENSOR WHICH LEAD TO THE FAILURE OF THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, COSTING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE. MB HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM IN THE 111 AND 271 SERIES OF ENGINE FOR MANY YEARS. COSTING THE CONSUMER HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY FOR A PROBLEM THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR FLAKING OR SHOWING SIGNS OF LEAKING OIL UNTIL ITS TOO LATE. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE ALARM SOUNDS CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE KEY WILL NOT DISABLE IT. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH MERCEDES BUT I SEEM TO FIND LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET BLOGS REGARDING OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT IS OUR RIGHT AS A CONSUMER? INCIDENT DESCRIPTION = GOODYEAR TIRE HAD AN INTERIOR WALL "TEAR" THAT CAUSE SUDDEN DEFLATION SUGGESTING A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS TIRE.....THE TIRE WAS PURCHASED FROM THE TIRE RACK SEPTEMBER 2007 (LESS THAN ONE YEAR AGO) AND HAD LESS THAN 10,000 MILES OF NORMAL SUBURBAN DRIVEN...THE "TECHNICIAN UPON REVIEW OF THE IMAGES OF THE TIRE STATED "NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT". *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE WHEN THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT BELT COMPUTER CHIP WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. VEHICLE IS A C 320 AND WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ACCIDENT OCCURRED, RECEIVING SIGNIFICANT FRONT END COLLISION BY OTHER VEHICLE AND THEREAFTER HITTING A CONCRETE STREET DIVIDER.DRIVER RECEIVED INJURIES TO HEAD,UPPER AND LOWER BODY AND LEGS.
I HAVE A 2004 MERCEDES C230 COMPRESSOR. YESTERDAY, I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND AFTERWARDS LEFT IT PARKED. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. IT ENGULFED THE WHOLE VEHICLE IN SMOKE AND DAMAGED MOST OF THE INTERIOR. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR CAME ,AND STATED THAT IT WAS FROM THE ELECTRICAL WIRES INSIDE THE DASHBOARD. *AK
2004 MERCEDES C240 WITH SUNROOF AND OVERHEAD CONTROL PANEL. CUSTOMER STATES THAT AFTER THE CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE ACQUIRED OTHER PROBLEMS ALONG WITH A LOOSE SEAT THAT MOVES WHILE DRIVING. *KB THE SUNROOF WOULDN'T CLOSE ON AUTO MODE, THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS INOPERABLE, THE ALARM DIDN'T SOUND, THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR LOCK WAS DEFECTIVE, THE BRAKES SQUEAKED, THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK COMING FROM THE OIL PAN, THE TRANSMISSION LEAKED, THE THRUST ARM BUSHINGS FAILED, THE RIGHT SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER WAS COMING APART, THE RIGHT FRONT WINDOW MADE A LOUD SQUEAK, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE DRIVERS SEAT DIDN'T TILT UP OR DOWN. THE PANIC FEATURE ON THE VEHICLE DIDN'T WORK, BOTH REMOTE KEYS DIDN'T LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ C230. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED ON FOUR OCCASIONS. AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAILURE. AFTER THE SECOND FAILURE, THE DEALER CHANGED THE BRAKES. DURING THE THIRD FAILURE, THE CONTACT WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE SKID IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE DEALER WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND SOME PARTS WERE REPLACED. DURING THE FOURTH FAILURE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE WHILE IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED AAA. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER PARKED IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND A HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER PUSHED HER VEHICLE TOWARDS THE TOW TRUCK, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BUMP INTO THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 19,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
THE SIDEWALL OF ONE OF THE TIRES MOUNTED ON THE CONSUMER'S 2004 MERCEDES BENZ C320W RIPPED AND CRACKED THE RIM. *NM AFTER THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSPECTED THE TIRE AND RIM, THEY DETERMINED DAMAGED TO BE ATTRIBUTED TO ROAD DAMAGE FROM IMPACT. *JB
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY (APPROXIMATE SPEED 60 MPH) WHEN I HEARD SOMETHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD OF MY 2004 MERCEDES C240. THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE SIGNS OF DAMAGE. HOWEVER, ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER AFTER I HAD MADE STOP AND LATER RETURNED TO THE CAR I NOTICED A 12 INCH CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT WITH THE WINDSHIELDS IN MERCEDES. A CO-WORKER OF MINE HAS HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD IN HER 2004 C320 MERCEDES TWICE WITHIN THE PAST 18 MONTHS. THE SERVICE REPS HAVE TOLD HER THAT THIS HAPPENS ON THE TIME, ESPECIALLY FOR COMMUTERS WHO TRAVEL THE 91 FREEWAY HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. I WOULD THINK THAT R&D WOULD HAVE DONE SUFFICIENT TESTING TO ENSURE THAT A WINDSHIELD COULD WITHSTAND CONTACT WITH A ROCK OR PEBBLE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN ODOR COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION AREA. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM EITHER AN OIL OR TRANSMISSION LEAK. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE ODOR. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THIS WAS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THE VEHICLE IS A 2004 MERCEDES-BENZ C230. *AK
HESITATION (JERKING) UPON ACCELERATION, USUALLY DURING TURNS OR WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE (NEW). I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR REPAIR FOR THIS PROBLEM NO LESS THAN SEVEN (7) TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. THERE IS ALSO A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT OCCURS WHEN THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE IS IDLING. ATTEMPTS TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING: CHARCOAL CANISTER SHUT OFF VALVE REPLACEMENT, LEAK IN CODUCTOR SLEEVE REPAIRED, PERFORMED ADAPTATION OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER, FLUSHED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER, REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER, AND INSTALLED RESTRICTOR IN THE PURGE LINE. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN VERY PROBLEMATIC. I HAD A BLOW OUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE @ 14,190 MILES. I THEN REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES. I HAD ANOTHER BLOW OUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AT 26,400 MILES WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I REPLACED THAT TIRE AGAIN ALONG WITH THE WHEEL/RIM. AT 35,522 MILES I HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE FRONT LEFT TIRE WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY AGAIN. I THEN REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES, BECAUSE THEY ALL NEEDED REPLACING AT THAT TIME. *TR
EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE I HAVA HAD PROBLEMS WITH IS FEATURES. POWER SEATS THAT MOVE BY THEMSELVES, AUTOMATIC DIMMING MIRRORS THAT TURN PITCH BLACK IN MIDDLE OF DAY, POWER TILT STEERING WHEEL THAT HAS UNPREDICITIBLE MOVES. AUTO WINDSHIELD WIPERS THAT DONT FUCNTION PROPERLY IN HEAVY DOWN POURS. THE SEATS ARE POWER AND THEY WILL MOVE ALL BY THEMSLEVES AND MOVE THE DRIVER EITHER INTO THE STEERING WHEEL OR PULL THE DRIVER BACK FROM THE WHEEL AND PEDALS. THE RAIN WIPERS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, DURNING HEAVY DOWNPOURS THEY JUST STOP WORKING MAKING DRIVING NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. THE AUTO DIMMING REAVIEW MIRROR TURNS ITCH BLACK FOR NO REASON IN MIDDLE OF DAY SO YOU CAN NOT USE MIRROR TO LOOK BEHIND YOU. I HAVE REPORTED ALL THESE PROBLEMS TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THEY ARE NORMAL, THEY CHECKED THEM OUT AND SAID THAT IF THEY ARE INTERMITTENT THEY WILL NEVER FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THESE ARE MAJOR SAFETY HAZARDS TO DRIVERS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED STEAM COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SHOULDER, LIFTED UP THE HOOD, AND SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
WILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER NOTICED STEAM COMING FROM THE HOOD AND BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE ,BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000. *TR
NEW 2004 C230K COUPE. DRIVERS SEAT HAD SLIGHT ROCKING MOTION FORWARD AND BACK FROM THE DAY OF PURCHASE. NOTIFIED DEALER - SAID WAS NORMAL. ROCKING MOTION GOT WORSE AND AGAIN NOTIFIED DEALER AT 5000 MILES ON ODOMETER. DEALER SAID SEAT ADJUSTER WAS COMING LOOSE FROM SEAT FRAME, APPARENTLY THE BOLTS HAD "WALLOWED OUT" IN THE HOLES AND THE TWO PIECES COULD HAVE COME APART FROM EACH OTHER. MY WORRY WAS THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT IT COULD HAVE SEPARATED AND A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD HAVE OCCURED SINCE THE PART I WAS SITTING IN WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE CAR...SEATBELTS, AIRBAGS, ETC WOULD HAVE BEEN TOTALLY USELESS. DEALER ORDERED NEW SEAT ADJUSTER AND ATTACHED IT TO SEAT FRAME.*MR
THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAS A SPLIT ABOUT 1.5 INCHES LONG PROCEEDING DIAGONALLY THROUGH THE TREAD TO NEAR THE SIDEWALL. THERE IS NO OTHER DAMAGE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIRE NEAR THE SPLIT OR EVIDENCE OF CONTACT WITH ANYTHING. I DRIVE LONG DISTANCES OFTEN AND WONDER IF THIS IS SOME TYPE OF DANGEROUS DEFECT.*AK
THIS DEFECT/CONCERN IS A GENERAL SAFETY COMPLAINT WITH RESPECT TO ALL VEHICLES WHICH SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY ENACTMENT OF STANDARDS TO BE USED BY ALL MANUFACTURERS. MAINLY THE STANDARDIZATION OF THE LOCATION AND FUNCTION OF KEY CONTROLS AND SWITCHES ON ALL AUTOMOBILES. IN TODAYS DRIVING, DRIVERS ARE PLACED BEHIND THE WHEEL OF UNFAMILIAR VEHICLES ALL THE TIME AS TRAVEL AND BUSINESS PUTS THEM IN RENTAL CARS. WITH EACH VEHICLE HAVING DIFFERENT LOCATIONS FOR LIGHT SWITCHES, FLASHERS, WINDSHEILD WIPERS/WASHERS, DIMMERS AND CRUISE CONTROLS. DRIVERS CAN END UP HAVING ACCIDENTS, ESPECIALLY IN HURRIED SITUATIONS, WHEN TRYING TO FIND THE LOCATION OF THE CONTROLS IN AN UNFAMILIAR CAR. ONE MIGHT ARGUE THAT IF YOU ARE DRIVING A NEW VEHICLE YOU SHOULD FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH ALL THE CONTROLS BEFORE STARTING TO DRIVE... BUT OFTEN TIMES IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, (WINDSHIELD SPLASHED WITH MUD), YOU INSTINCTIVELY RESPOND TO WHERE YOUR EVERYDAY VEHICLES CONTROLS ARE. THIS NOT ONLY DELAYS RESOLUTION OF THE SITUATION BUT TAKES YOUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM DRIVING. SETTING A STANDARD WOULD MAKE AUTO MANUFACTURES PUT ALL THESE CONTROLS IN A STANDARD POSITION SO WHEN YOU GO FROM ONE CAR TO THE NEXT THEY ARE ALWAYS WHERE YOU WOULD EXPECT THEM! *AK
