THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD THE CAR LOOKED INTO AT A REPUTABLE MB DEALERSHIP. THE CODES THAT WERE READ WERE C1200 AND C1208 FOR INTAKE AND CAMSHAFT TIMING RETARDED (NEED BALANCE SHAFT). THIS IS A $4,000 REPAIR. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT. I ALSO SEE THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN HAVING THIS PROBLEM ON MY C230 MB. APPARENTLY MANY OTHERS HAVE OR HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE ON 2006 AND 2007 C230'S. I DID NOT HAVE THE WORK DONE DUE TO THE EXPENSIVE COSTS. HOWEVER I AM NOW UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I RUN THE RISK OF BEING STRANDED AS I DROVE IT THE SAME DAY I PICKED IT BACK UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES AND TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE BACK UP IT STARTED AS NORMAL. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO DRIVE THE CAR AND NOT EVER KNOW IF IT WILL START OR NOT. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL THE CAR UP WITH GAS I GET A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. I'VE ONLY OWNED THE CAR ONE MONTH, IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE? *TR
FUEL TANK LEAK. AFTER TANK FILL UP GASOLINE SMELLS. BIG SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE DESPITE THE CONTACT APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE THEN RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRICAL PLATE INTERNAL SPEED SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WOULD REQUIRE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION BEING REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN ENGINES RPMS AS THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
CAR WILL NOT GO OVER 20 MILES AFTER STOPPING. I HAVE TO PULL OVER PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. THE CAR WILL RUN FINE FOR AWHILE AND A DAY OR SO LATER, THE PROBLEM RETURNS. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE WHEN YOUR IN TRAFFIC. I'M SO AFRAID I'M GOING TO GET HIT FROM BEHIND TRYING TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN TO 3 MECHANICS AND TOLD THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM DUE THE THEFT DETERRENT ON THE CAR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT MERCEDES ON FRIDAY AND HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WILL BE APPROX. $2000.00 TO REPLACE THE PLATE IN THE TRANSMISSION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
AFTER MY CAR WAS SERVICED ON JANUARY 11, 2013, I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE EVERY TIME I FILLED MY GAS TANK. THE SMELL WAS EVIDENT INSIDE MY CAR AND IN THE GARAGE AND EVEN IN MY HOUSE. AFTER THE THIRD FILLING OF MY GAS TANK AND AN EVER-WORSENING SMELL, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TO ASCERTAIN AND FIX THE PROBLEM (MARCH 15, 2013). THEY FOUND FUEL LEAKING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND REPLACED IT FOR $1200. I SAW AN ARTICLE IN THE LOS ANGELES TIMES ON MARCH 20, 2013, THAT FEDERAL SAFETY REGULATORS ARE INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM IN THE E-CLASS, AND YOU SHOULD KNOW IT IS OCCURRING IN THE 2007 C-CLASS, ALSO. I CAN STILL DETECT AN ODOR, THOUGH NOT AS STRONG, AFTER I FILL THE GAS TANK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT SMELLED FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
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
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON 01-04-2013 IN TRAFFIC THE CAR STALLED ALMOST CAUSING AN ACIDENT. AND ON 01-06-2013 THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON A BUSY STREET NEAR MY HOUSE AGAIN ALMOST CAUSING AN ACIDENT.I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM PENSKE MERCEDES BENZ OF WEST COVINA ON 08-03-2012.I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION.AND THAT IT HAD BEEN SERVICED.NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE BECAUSE OF HAVING AN ACIDENT.AND ALSO THEY DID NOT TELL ME THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN ON RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. SEVERAL DAYS LATER WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED THREE TIMES IN THE COURSE OF A 24-HOUR PERIOD. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V303000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000. THE SMELL OF GASOLINE FUMES IS EXTREMELY STRONG AFTER FILLING THE TANK. THE INTENSE SMELL OF GASOLINE FILLS THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR AS WELL. I FEEL THAT THIS CONDITION IS UNSAFE AND PROVIDES THE POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE HAZARD. THIS CONDITION ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS FILLED AND LAST A DAY OR TWO. MY CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PINPOINT THE CAUSE. *TR
STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE MERCEDES C280 2007 WHEN IT'S FILLED UP, OR FILLED PAST THE SECOND NOTCH ON THE FUEL METER. INSPECTION OF THE FUEL TANK UNDERNEATH THE REAR SEATS REVEALS A VISIBLE FUEL LEAK ON THE LEFT SENDING UNIT A THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. GOOGLE SEARCH RESULTS SUGGEST THIS LEAKAGE MAY BE RELATED TO A MARCH, 2008 EMISSIONS RECALL CONDUCTED BY MERCEDES BENZ (EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN # 2008-020001) WHICH INVOLVED POTENTIAL CRACKING OF THE FUEL FILTER MODULE IN VEHICLES EXPOSED TO HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES. I CONTACTED TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS WHO OWN MERCEDES REPAIR SHOPS, AND THEY BOTH CONFIRMED THESE ARE COMMON PROBLEMS WITH MERCEDES VEHICLES OF DIFFERENT MODELS AND YEARS. FIXING IS VERY EXPENSIVE (CLOSE TO $800). MEANWHILE, THE LEAKED FUEL COULD IGNITE A FIRE, EXPLOSION, AND, TO THE LEAST EXTENT, IS SENDING FUEL FUME OUT TO THE ENVIRONMENT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILLED UP ON GAS I WOULD SMELL GAS INSIDE THE CABIN. I THEN PROCEEDED TO INVESTIGATE INTO WHY I WAS SMELLING GAS. I LOOKED BETWEEN THE TIRE AND THE FENDER ON THE CAR ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A WET SPOT ON TOP OF THE PLASTIC UNDER COVER GUARD. AT THAT POINT I TOOK OUT THE BACK SEAT AND OPENED THE ACCESS PANEL ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND IT WAS AT THAT POINT I NOTICED FUEL LEAKING. I THEN OPENED THE PASSENGER SIDE AND NOTICED THE SAME THING, FUEL LEAKING. NOW THAT I KNOW WHY I WAS SMELLING FUEL I REPLACED THE SEALS ON BOTH SIDES HOPING THAT WAS GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I THEN WENT TO THE GAS STATION FILLED UP AGAIN TO SEE IF REPLACING THE GASKETS DID THE JOB. WHEN I GOT HOME I OPENED BOTH PANELS AND NOTICED THAT I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL. AS I LOOKED HARD AT THE PUMPS, SENSOR AND LEVELER I NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC ELECTRICAL CONNECTERS THAT WERE MOLDED TO THE TOP OF THE LIDS WAS NO GOOD AND SEEPING OUT FUEL. AT THAT POINT I REPLACED BOTH SIDES. I SPENT ROUGHLY AROUND $550.00. I KNOW IT I HAD THE DEALER DO IT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DOUBLE THAT. FOR A VEHICLE ONLY BEING 5 YEARS OLD IT SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE KIND OF PROBLEM WITH IT. I AM GLAD THAT I HAVE MECHANIC SKILLS TO DO THINGS LIKE THIS. *TR
I HAVE PERIODICALLY HAD THIS PROBLEM. FROM A STOP, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS STUCK IN A HIGHER GEAR. OR, THE OPPOSITE HAPPENS. I WILL ACCELERATE, AND THE CAR WILL NOT CHANGE FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE, AND THEN IT WORKS. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM OTHER OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO MB AND PAID 1450.34 TO GET THE ELECTRIC HYDRO CONTROL UNIT IN MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR
MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT WAS ON 08/16/2012 (NUMBER 10473170).... AGAIN, THE TRANSMISSION GEAR INDICATOR WENT BLANK. CAR WENT INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE. THIS TIME REMOVING THE KEY AND RESTARTING DID NOT RESET THE MODULE AND I HAD THE REPAIR DONE. THE REPAIR ON THIS WAS ALMOST $2000! IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR WHICH IS PART OF THE ELECTRICAL CONDUCTOR PLATE ASSEMBLY. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE REP ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE MANY REPAIRS WITH TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROBLEMS AND ENCOURAGED ME TO BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY! ONLINE THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2006- 2007 C230'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT GOING ON AND I TOO WOULD LIKE A RECALL INVESTIGATION THROUGH THE NHTSA. MB NEEDS TO ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES WITH THIS DEFECT. *TR
THE CAR IS GOING INTO LIMP MODE WHEN YOU STOP AND THAN GO. YOU PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF IT RESETS THE COMPUTER AND IT WORKS FINE FOR COUPLE OF DAYS. THE ISSUE BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK I NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IN THE CABIN WHILE AT A STOPLIGHT. UPON RETURNING HOME, THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND COULD SMELL THE GASOLINE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE EXTERIOR. AFTER THE CAR WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR ROUGHLY 3 HOURS, WE NOTICED A "POOL" OF GASOLINE ON THE DRIVEWAY SURFACE. CONTACT WITH MERCEDES-BENZ OF WACO REVEALED THAT THE TECHNICIANS THERE HAVE DONE MANY TANK/SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENTS AS THESE ARE "KNOWN TO FAIL AND BEING OUT OF WARRANTY THESE REPAIRS WOULD COST NO LESS THAN $1800 OUT OF POCKET AND WILL LIKELY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WE SUGGEST YOU RESEARCH RECALL STATUS AND COMPLAINTS MADE BEFORE DOING A POSSIBLE TEMPORARY FIX." WE ARE CONCERNED WITH DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION AND ARE EXTREMELY UPSET WITH THE LACK OF SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND NOTICED THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND REV HIGH IN RPM. I HAVE TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY SINCE I AM LOSING CONTROL OF THE CAR. I WAS ABOUT TO CALL THE TOW SERVICE BUT I RECOVER AFTER I RESTARTED THE ENGINE. AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE DEALER HAS DETERMINED TO A SENSOR ON THE TRANSMISSION BUT SAID SINCE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED, I HAVE TO PAY $1300 TO GET THE SENSOR REPLACED. THIS IS TERRIBLE SINCE MY CAR HAS ONLY 45000 MILES ON IT. IN ADDITION, THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE BASED ON THE FORUM DISCUSSION AND MERCEDES SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A TERRIBLE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE AND I DON'T KNOW HOW I CAN TRUST THEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENDING UNIT WAS CRACKED AND AS A RESULT, THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO COVER TEN PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
IT OCCURRED ON THE FREEWAY IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE RPM RAN HIGH. THE TRANSMISSION GEAR INDICATOR WENT BLANK. I HAD TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF, LET IT SIT, THEN WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WAS NORMAL AGAIN. I HAD ONLY 38,400 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE! ONLINE THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2006 2007 C230'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP SAID IT IS PERHAPS THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR WHICH IS PART OF THE ELECTRICAL CONDUCTOR PLATE ASSEMBLY. WHEN TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT MY VEHICLES CAMSHAFT SENSOR FAILURE REPAIR AND POSSIBLE BALANCE SHAFT ISSUES, 7 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THE SERVICE REP ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE MANY REPAIRS WITH TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROBLEMS AND ENCOURAGED ME TO BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY! HERE IS A QUOTE FROM AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP: "THESE UNITS ARE FAILING SO OFTEN THAT THE DEALER HAS RESTRICTED SELLING THEM EVEN IN THEIR OWN SHOP. TO ORDER A PART, THE DEALER MUST SUBMIT A REQUEST WITH COMPUTER SCANS AND CONTROL UNIT LOG REPORTS OF THE SUSPECTED FAILED VEHICLE'S ELECTRONICS. THE FACTORY THEN SENDS THE PARTS THEY DEEM NECESSARY FOR THE REPAIR (CONDUCTOR PLATE ASSEMBLY, OR COMPLETE VALVE BODY)." THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT GOING ON AND I TOO WOULD LIKE A RECALL INVESTIGATION THROUGH THE NHTSA. THE REPAIR ON THIS IS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! *TR
SUDDEN LOSS OF PROPULSION, RPMS ELEVATED DRAMATICALLY. FROM A STOPPED POSITION THE CAR DID NOT REGAIN NORMAL PROPULSION AND BARELY MOVED. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON, PROPULSION RETURNED TO NORMAL. *TR

I OWN A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230 AND HAVE A FUEL SMELL THAT IS OVERPOWERING ESPECIALLY AFTER FUELING UP. HAS A RECALL BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MANY OWNERS? CAN THIS CATCH ON FIRE???? *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION INTERNAL SPEED SENSOR OR THE SHAFT BALANCER. I HAVE A C230 SPORTS SEDAN WITH 45,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN STICKING IN GEAR, BUT IF I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY IT WOULD RESET AND USUALLY BE OK FOR A WHILE. NOW IT IS STUCK IN FIRST GEAR, AND NOTHING I HAVE TRIED HAS DONE ANY GOOD. IT WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. IT HAS AN AUTOMATIC MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT THE MANUAL FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK AND EVEN TRYING TO SHIFT MANUALLY DOES NO GOOD. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YET MB HAS NEVER ISSUED A RECALL. THIS IS PRETTY CLEARLY A FACTORY DEFECT AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230 AT 30MPH AND IT JUST STOPPED RUNNING IT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS BUT THE RPM WOULD GO UP. I NOTICE 2 WEEKS BEFORE WHEN I WANTED ACCELERATE IT WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER THEN 30MPH AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT WOULD SPEED. I WENT ONLINE TO CHECK AND SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS AND IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL YET. I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW, IT WAS NEVER PREVIOUSLY OWNED AND DIRECTLY FROM A MERCEDES BENZ DEALER. I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH SPEED AND GEAR SHIFTING BACK IN MAY 2012. WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY NORMAL SPEED (55MPH) THE CAR WOULD BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR WOULD SLOW TO A COMPLETE STOP. I WOULD HAVE TO ATTEMPT TO PULL OVER OFF THE FREEWAY, TURN THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF, LET IT SIT AND THEN START IT AGAIN AND THE CAR WOULD RUN NORMAL. WHEN I GET OFF THE FREEWAY OR NOW EVEN WHEN I AM DRIVING ON A BACK ROAD GOING 35 MPH THE CAR WOULD SHAKE AS I CAME TO A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT (AS IF I WAS DRIVING A STICK SHIFT AND DIDN'T PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR PRESS THE CLUTCH) AND THEN IT WOULD SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. NOW I AM HAVING A THIRD ISSUE IN ADDITION TO THESE ISSUES WHERE THE CAR WILL SHIFT GEARS ON IT'S OWN AND I'M DRIVING IN AUTOMATIC MODE NOT AS A 5 SPEED. THIS IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS FOR ME TO HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUE ON A MERCEDES BENZ THAT I PURCHASED NEW. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER WHO CLAIMS THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION DUE TO ONE SMALL PIECE WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. I HAVE CHECKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER BENZ OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH NO RESOLUTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I AM REQUESTING AN INVESTIGATION AND A RECALL. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD THAT A CAR WILL COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE ON A FREEWAY AND THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I HAVE ALMOST COLLIDED WITH OTHER CARS DUE TO THE IMMEDIATE DECLINE IN SPEED. I PURCHASED MY 2007 C230 NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. MY CAR HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION ISSUES OF THE CAR NOT DOWN SHIFTING INTO THE NEXT GEAR AND THE CAR'S SPEED DECLINING WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED DRIVING ON SURFACE STREETS AT 20MPH AND ON THE FREEWAY GOING 65MPH. I'VE EVEN ATTEMPTED TO TAKE IT OUT OF AUTOMATIC DRIVE AND INTO MANUAL SHIFT AND THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND. THE ONLY WAY TO "REBOOT" IT IS IF I PULL OVER AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THIS IS A MAJOR MECHANICAL/MANUFACTURER DEFECT AS MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES!!! TO HAVE TO PULL OVER ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE IS NOT SAFE BY ANY MEANS. WHEN TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY INSPECTED IT AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A TRANSMISSION VALVE FAILURE THAT WILL NEED REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $1300. FOR A VEHICLE THAT ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES, WELL MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR SERVICE THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I PURCHASED A MERCEDES BASED ON THEIR RELIABILITY AND WHEN CONTACTING CORPORATE FOR REVIEW IN THE MATTER THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO OFFER ME A 10% DISCOUNT. I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM PAYING FOR REGULAR UP KEEP AND IF OTHER ITEMS NEED TO BE UPDATED/REPLACED TO KEEP THE CAR IN GOOD CONDITION BUT TO HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AT 40,000 MILES IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT NEEDS REVIEW AND RECALL. *TR
STRONG RAW FUEL ODOR WAS NOTICED AFTER FILL UP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT BOTH THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING AND THE FUEL SENDER HOUSINGS WERE CRACKED ALLOWING RAW FUEL TO LEAK OUT. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE E CLASS RECALL. THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE THE C CLASS AS WELL AS THIS CAR HAS AN IDENTICAL FAILURE MODE. I FOUND THIS ISSUE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED, AND WOULD LIKE TO SECOND THIS NOTED ISSUE. FOR MANY MONTHS HAVE NOTICED STRONG FUEL SMELL FROM LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL WHENEVER TANK IS OVER 3/4 FULL. MB DEALER CONFIRMS ABOVE SIMILAR DIAGNOSIS AND APPROXIMATELY 1K REPAIR COST, GAS IS LEAKING OUT AND POOLING ON TOP OF SENDER UNIT. *TR
DTC 1208 CODE APPEARS. DUE TO POSITIONING OF TIMING CHAIN RELATIVE TO CRANKSHAFT. ENGINE M272 CAUSED BY WORN SPROCKET ON THE BALANCE SHAFT OF ENGINE. MERCEDES HAS REPAIR KIT AVAILABLE BUT HAS MODIFIED THIS PROBLEM ON NEWER VEHICLES. THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THIS ENGINE, AND SHOULD BE PART OF A NATIONAL RECALL COMPAIGN. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS OVER THIS AND I BELIEVE THERE IS CURRENTLY A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT ABOUT THIS. *KB

VEHICLE SEEMS TO RUN FINE BUT AFTER A COLD MORNING START THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS (TOTALING $105.00) IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE CODE RENDERING THE BALANCE SHAFT OR POSSIBLE BAD SENSOR WAS THE REASON FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING. THE ESTIMATE COST FOR THIS REPAIR IS RANGING FROM 5 TO 6 GRAND. THIS IS HIGHLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 45,000 MILES. 2007, MERCEDES BENZ, C230, BLACK ON BLACK, THAT HAS BEEN STORED FOR A MAJORITY OF ITS EXISTENCE BECAUSE I AM DEPLOYED OVERSEAS DOES NOT SEND A GOOD IMPRESSION WHEN THE COMPANY WILL NOT ADMIT THAT THERE IS A DEFINITE PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE TYPE. IN TODAY'S ECONOMY, CONSUMERS SPEND A LITTLE MORE TO REASSURE THIS TYPE OF REPAIR IS AVOIDED BY PURCHASING A MORE RELIABLE SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES-BENZ C240. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING 5 MPH AND ABOVE, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE ABNORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE CAM SHAFT ADJUSTER SOLENOID ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,214. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ASKING ME TO GO TO THE NEXT GAS STATION AND CHECK OIL. WHEN I TOOK TO THE NEXT DAY TO A MECHANIC AND UPON A THOROUGH DIAGNOSTICS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE BALANCE SHAFT (IN TAKE CAMSHAFT CODE 1208) AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT, CODE 1200 NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO PREMATURE WEAR AND FAULTY PARTS. *TR
I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THE RPM'S RAN WAY UP AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TRIED PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL THEN DRIVE AND NOTHING. I PULLED OVER TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MIN. THEN BACK ON. THE CAR OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND I HAD ALL THE NECESSARY SERVICE DONE ON THE CAR AT THAT TIME. THE CAR HAS DONE THIS INCREASINGLY FOR THE LAST YEAR AND IT IS NOW BECOMING A HAZARD. THE CAR HAS STARTED JUMPING WHEN PUT IN DRIVE AND IT IS ALARMING. I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND I FEEL MERCEDES SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A DEFECT IN THIS MODEL. I HAVE CHILDREN AND THIS IS MY ONLY CAR. FC 1208 COMPLAINT FOR ENGINE/ENGINE COOLING; A BALANCE SHAFT ISSUE. *TR
WE HAVE A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230 SPORT. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE USED WITH 32000 MILES ON IT WE STARTED HAVING BALANCE SHAFT PROBLEMS. SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD THE BALANCE SHAFT SENSOR, AND MAGNETS REPLACES ALONG WITH THE CRANK CASE SENSOR. THE VEHICLES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL COMING ON AND WE ARE NOW BEING TOLD THE BALANCE SHAFT SOLENOIDS NEED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. *TR
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK, A VERY STRONG ODOR OF RAW GASOLINE COMING FROM REAR OF CAR. THE STRONGEST SMELL COMING FROM DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL, NO VISIBLE LEAKS DETECTED. THE SMELL IS GETTING WORSE AFTER EACH FILL-UP. REPLACED THE GAS CAP, NO CHANGE IN CONDITION. CONTACTED THE DEALER FROM WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND INQUIRED ABOUT SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND FIXES BECAUSE ANOTHER OF MY FAMILY HAS THE SAME MODEL WITH SIMILAR MILES AND HAS THE VERY SAME PROBLEM, THE DEALER WAS UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL. BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, WILL NEED TO FIND A REPAIR FACILITY TO SOLVE AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMETHING CATASTROPHIC HAPPENS. ALSO FOUND IN RESEARCH THAT THIS SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN FOUND IN OTHER MERCEDES MODELS OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR. *TR

IT IS A RISK TO ENTER A MAIN ROAD BECAUSE OF NOT KNOWING WHAT GEAR THE AUTO TRANS IS LOCKED OR IF IT WILL SHIFT TO ANOTHER GEAR TO GET UP TO SPEED.
