I BOUGHT THE CAR JUNE 2011 AND SINCE THEN, I HAVE PERIODICALLY HAD THIS PROBLEM. FROM A STOP, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS STUCK IN A HIGHER GEAR. OR, THE OPPOSITE HAPPENS. I WILL ACCELERATE, AND THE CAR WILL NOT CHANGE FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE, AND THEN IT WORKS. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM OTHER OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
NOTICED STRONG FUEL SMELL. FUEL TANK BEHIND DRIVER SIDE HAD CRACK-HAD IT REPLACED. 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND NOTICED I COULD NOT FILL UP TANK BEYOND 1/2 TANK TOOK IT BACK INTO SERVICE DEFECT WAS LOCATED IN PASSENGER SIDE TANK. ON 7/15 CAR STALLED ON FREEWAY---SHOWED 1/2 TANK OF GAS-ASSUMED IT WAS THE BATTERY. TOOK IT INTO SERVICE AGAIN AND IT WAS THE FLOAT IN THE TANK THAT NEEDED TO BE CHECKED---PROBLEM SOLVED-----SO FAR. WAS TOLD BY DEALER MY YEAR/MODEL DID NOT QUALIFY FOR RECALL. RECALLS ARE DETERMINED BY FACTORY WHERE IT WAS BUILT AND EXCESSIVE COMPLAINTS FOR SAID PROBLEM FROM THAT FACTORY. IF THE SAME FUEL PUMP WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE FOR OTHER MODEL YEARS WHY WAIT FOR CONSUMER TO COMPLAIN AND PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIR.. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS INOPERABLE AND THE ESP BAS CONTROL WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HER VIN HAD NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V303000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH CONFIRMED THAT THE CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000.
I PURCHASED MY 2007 MERCEDES C230 IN APPROXIMATELY FEBRUARY 2011 FROM CARMAX IN ROSEVILLE, CA. WITHIN SIX WEEKS, I WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL FREEWAY WHEN I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ACCELERATION POWER YET THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING A OVER 4000 RPM. I RETURNED TO THE CARMAX DEALERSHIP TO REPORT THE ENGINE PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM, WHICH REPEATED ITSELF INTERMITTENTLY IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS. IN DECEMBER 2011, I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL MERCEDES SPECIALIST FOR A SERVICE B; UPON EXAMINATION, THE SPECIALIST ADVISED ME THAT THE CAR HAD NOT RECEIVED A 60,000 MILE SERVICE B, INCLUDING A TRANSMISSION SERVICE, AND ASKED IF THE CAR HAD EXHIBITED THE POWER LOSS AND HIGH RPM. THE SPECIALIST INFORMED ME THAT A MERCEDES SERVICE BULLETIN ADVISED OF AN INCOMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THE METAL MATERIAL OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ORIGINAL FACTORY FLUID, WHICH CAUSES A SHEARING PROBLEM AND BUILD UP ON THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING SENSORS. THE SPECIALIST RECOMMENDED AND PERFORMED A SERVICE OF FLUSHING & REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WITH A NEWLY FORMULATED, MERCEDES RECOMMENDED FLUID. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE SERVICE AND FLUID REPLACEMENT, THERE WERE FEWER INCIDENTS OF POWER LOSS. IN RECENT WEEKS, SIX MONTHS AFTER THE TRANSMISSION SERVICE, THE ISSUE OF POWER LOSS HAS RE-OCCURRED FREQUENTLY, MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK, MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY, MANY TIMES ON THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OF 55-65 MPH, REQUIRING ME TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY TO TURN OFF THE CAR AN ALLOW TO RESET BEFORE RE-ENTERING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THIS LOSS OF POWER AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEED IS A GREAT SAFETY CONCERN TO ME. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILLED UP THE GAS TANK I WOULD SMELL GAS IN THE CABIN AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR TWO YEARS. MY CAR HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE AND IT DRIVES FINE. I KEEP FORGETTING TO TELL THE DEALERSHIP THE ISSUES WHEN I BRING IT IN FOR MAINTENANCE. THERE IS DEFINITELY AN ISSUES WITH THE GAS TANK. IT IS GETTING WORST AS TIME GOES BY. *TR
MY MERCEDES C280 4MATIC, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 62,000 MILES, DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY "ENGINE BALANCE SHAFT" WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST AROUND $6,000 TO FIX AND IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS. PART SHOULD BE RECALLED ! VERY DANGEROUS, AND WAY TOO COMMON TO NOT BE FAULT OF MERCEDES. *TR
COMBINATION PROBLEM THE WIPERS ARE NOT COMMONLY AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF THE DEALER. THEY HAVE A FITTER THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE USUAL SUPPLY OF REPLACEMENTS. THERE ARE NO DEALERS IN THE COLUMBIA GORGE. A DAUGHTER HAD ONE OF HER WIPERS ICE UP AND FALL OFF WHILE TRAVERSING THE COLUMBIA GORGE ONE SNOWY EVE. SHE REPLACED IT AT A ROADSIDE SERVICE STATION. THIS WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE IF IT HAD HAPPENED WITH THIS MERCEDES. HAVING A BAD WIPER BLADE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH ME.
2007 MERCEDES BENZ CLASS WAS PARKED FOR 1 HOUR IN PARKING LOT AND IT SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY ABS SYSTEM ENGAGING WHILE PARKED AND NOT DISENGAGING, OR IT STARTED IN HARNESS OR MODULE. *TR
ALTHOUGH I NO LONGER HAVE THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS LEASED, AROUND A YEAR, A YEAR AND 4 MONTHS AGO, MY MERCEDES BENZ WAS MAKING A WEIRD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AS WELL SO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD BEEN ON FOR WEEKS/MONTHS. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO A MB DEALERSHIP THEY HAD TO FIRST GET MY APPROVAL TO TAKE APART THE ENGINE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, OF COURSE I SAID OK SINCE IT WAS A LEASED CAR. ONCE THEY FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM THEY SUGGESTED I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE BASED ON A PROBLEM W/ THE CYLINDERS AND THAT THE FACT I HADN'T GIVEN THE VEHICLE THE PROPER OIL CHANGES, HOWEVER I BELIEVE IT WAS A PROBLEM CAUSED BY THE BALANCE SHIFT GEARS. SO THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST ME AROUND $7000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM BY PUTTING IN A BRAND NEW ENGINE, I ASKED IF MB COULD HELP W/ THE COST BUT THEY REFUSED, CLAIMING THAT SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE A RECORD OF SUFFICIENT OIL CHANGES THEY WOULDN'T HELP....SO I HAD A TOW TRUCK PICK UP THE CAR FROM THE MB DEALERSHIP AND TAKE IT TO ANOTHER SHOP WHERE THEY FOUND AN ENGINE AND PUT IT IN FOR A LITTLE LESS, I HAD TO HAVE IT DONE SINCE IT WAS LEASED AND I HAD TO RETURN IT BACK TO MB. I HOPE THAT MB TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS. *TR
ON AT LEAST FIVE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO ADVANCE OUT OF FIRST GEAR OR EXCEED 25 MPH DESPITE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THIS HAS PRESENTED A SAFETY ISSUE FOR IT HAS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND MIGHT AS ONE IS ENTERING A HIGHWAY OR EXPRESSWAY WITH VEHICLES RAPIDLY APPROACHING FROM BEHIND. *TR
VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT EVERY TIME GAS TANK IS REFILLED. SMELL GRADUALLY ABATES AS THE LEVEL OF GAS IN THE TANK DROPS. CONCERN REGARDING FIRE HAZARD DUE TO LEAKING GAS. APPEARS TO BE A LONG-STANDING PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED MERCEDES-BENZ AND THERE HAS BEEN A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED ON THE PROBLEM, BUT NO FIX WAS SUGGESTED AND I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALL BEING ISSUED. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA, AS IT MAY BE RELATED TO OTHER REPORTS OF SPONTANEOUS FIRES OCCURRING IN THESE VEHICLES AND THIS PRESENTS AN IMMINENT SAFETY RISK FOR DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. *TR
I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK AND IMMEDIATELY COULD SMELL A STRONG GAS ODOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR AREA INSIDE THE CABIN(THE GAS FILLER NOZZLE IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE). I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER ON 2 OCCASIONS UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED, MY FEAR IS THIS WILL BE RECURRING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE AND THE RESIDENTIAL GARAGE AFTER REFUELING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEFT FUEL SENDING UNIT AND TWO SEALS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. MY 2007 C230 AUTOMATIC SPORT SEDAN THAT I PURCHASED PRE-OWNED AND CERTIFIED FROM AN AUTHORIZED MB DEALER IN 2009 HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED EXTREME LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND RUNNING AT A HIGH RPM. IT FIRST OCCURRED A FEW WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WAS ENTERING A PARKING GARAGE WITH A STEEP HILL AND AS I DROVE UP HILL, THE CAR STRUGGLED TO ACCELERATE WHILE THE RMP RAN HIGH. I FEARED THE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO ROLL BACKWARD AND I QUICKLY APPLIED THE BRAKES, PLACED THE CAR IN PARK WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE INTO THE GARAGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO MB SERVICE AND AFTER THEY TRIED TO SAY IT WAS NOTHING WITHOUT REVIEWING THE VEHICLE, THEY FINALLY AGREED TO DO A DIAGNOSIS. I WAS ADVISED THEY FOUND A FAULTY SENSOR AND IT WAS REPAIRED. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING AS I ATTEMPTED TO BACK INTO MY PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE AND THE RMP RAN HIGH. TURNING IT AND RESTARTING AGAIN REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD AND FORTH TIME IT OCCURRED ON THE HIGH WAY DURING MY NORMAL COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK. THE ISSUE RE-APPEARED IN BUSY TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE RPM RAN HIGH. EACH TIME IT HAS OCCURRED, I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF, LET IT SIT, THEN WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WAS FINE AND I DROVE OFF WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2006 2007 C230'S WITH THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEM DESCRIBED AND IT APPEARS TO BE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT GOING ON AND I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST A RECALL INVESTIGATION THROUGH THE NHTSA. UPDATED 11/01/11
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND STALLED WITH NO WARNING. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE NEAREST DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR FAILED DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE WAS STILL ALMOST ONE QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL SENSOR. RESEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REVEALED THAT THERE WAS A PART 573 DEFECT INFORMATION REPORT FILED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND A MANUFACTURER'S CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS ISSUED #2008070001. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BY THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION HAD I BEEN TRAVELING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF A LOCAL STREET AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED FAILURES RELATED TO LOSS OF ACCELERATION, ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH THE TURNING SIGNALS, AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATION AND EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR AND THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR WERE DEFECTIVE. ALSO, THE ACTUATOR TIMING CHAIN, BALANCE SHAFT AND THE VALVE COVER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C280. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 19000.

I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING TO WORK WITH A CO-WORKER WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IN MY 2007 C230 DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NOT A COLLISION OR CONTACT WITH MY VEHICLE AT ALL. THE BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ARM REST STRUCK MY PASSENGER RIGHT ARM QUITE VIOLENTLY CAUSING HER PAIN FOR 4 DAYS AND THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG CONSTRICTED AND PUT A 4 INCH CUT ON MY NECK. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MERCEDES OF LAGUNA NIGUEL WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW ONLY 2 MONTHS AGO THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE AIRBAGS SITTING SMALL SCRATCHES ON BOTH PASSENGER SIDE RIMS AND THEIR CLAIM OF THE TIRES BUBBLING AND PROOF THE VEHICLE WAS IN A COLLISION. HOWEVER 10 DAYS PREVIOUSLY I HAD ACCIDENTALLY SCRAPED THE VEHICLES RIMS WHILE PARKING. I CAN ASSURE YOU THIS VEHICLE WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WHEN I WENT IN FOR REPAIRS TO THE AIRBAGS AND THE EVENTS I HAVE DESCRIBED ARE EXACTLY AS THEY OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP ASKED ME TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY, WHICH I DID, HOWEVER I RELAYED THE SAME INFORMATION TO THEM AS I AM RELAYING TO YOU. I AM OUTRAGED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND FEEL THEY SHOULD REPAIR THE FAULTY AIRBAGS ON THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING MY 2007MERCEDESBENZ.5TH TIME. I LEASED A MBENZ 2007 C230W FROM BILL USSERY MERCEDES JANUARY 2007.2 WEEKS FROM PURCHASE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO SERVICE TOLD THEM THE CAR WOULD SHAKE VIGOROUSLY WHEN PRESSING ON BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN FROM 40MPH OR MORE. TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. 2MONTHS LATER BROUGHT CAR BACK AND CAR WAS SHAKING WHEN BRAKING. CONFIRMED THE SHAKING AND BRAKE ROTORS BRAKE PADS,BRAKE DISCS WERE REPLACED,FRONT SUSPENSION LOOSE/TIGHTENED. THIS HAS OCCURRED NOW ON 5 SEPARATE OCCASSIONS. ONGOING SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2007. I FELT UNSAFE IN THE CAR. CALLED MBUSA ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS BEGINNING IN OCTOBER TIL NOW. CLAIM WAS FILED AND I NEVER HEARD BACK. ON MAY OF 2008,MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE. I WENT TO SLOW DOWN TO EXIT,NO BRAKES!CAR SHOOK WORSE THAN EVER!HAD THE CAR TOWED INTO MERCEDES. I WILL NOT DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN!THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE CAR. ONCE AGAIN STATED THEY FIXED MY CAR,TO PICK IT UP OR STORAGE FEES WOULD BE CHARGED AND CAR IMPOUNDED. I REFUSE TO DRIVE A CAR THAT CAN INJURE OR KILL ME OR MY SON OR SOMEONE ELSE. THE SERVICE RECORDS ON THIS CAR CLEARLY STATE ALL OF THE ABOVE. MERCEDES BENZ REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY BLAMING ME AS THE CAUSE FOR THE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS AND DISCS TO BE REPLACED 5 TIMES IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. THEY WON'T TEST DRIVE THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE TO SIMULATE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME, BUT THEY WANT ME TO COME GET THE CAR AND DRIVE IT?I AM STILL WITHOUT A CAR AND I PAID FOR THIS LEASE IN FULL 2YRS. I WILL NEVER DRIVE IT AGAIN. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO DRIVE IT PERIOD!I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH MERCEDES BENZ AND I LOVE THEIR CARS, BUT THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR IS DEFECTIVE. PLEASE HELP ME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MORE THAN FIVE TIMES AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE AFTER SEVERAL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LAMP WAS STILL ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,407. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED TO 4,000 HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK THE DEALER AND A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE. THE DEALER FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED THE CONDUCTOR PLATE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCELERATION ABILITIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,392 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY THREE MONTH OLD 07 MERCEDES BENZ C230 SPORT SEDAN. I HAD 1 PASSENGER WITH ME AND I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION IN THE#1 LANE AND I FELT AN IMPACT TO THE DRIVER DOOR AS THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. I STEERED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT , CAUSING THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TO FISHTAIL IN THE ISLAND. AS I WENT ACROSS THE LANES I STEERED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE FRONT END. MY PASSENGER REAR TIRE HIT THE CURB. AS I EXITED THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND AND NOTHING IN THE ROADWAY. THE CAR HAD NO DAMAGE, JUST SCRATCHES TO THE BODY. BOTH REAR RIMS HAD DAMAGE FROM THE FISHTAIL EFFECT. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MERCEDES BENZ ABOUT THE AIRBAGS MALFUNCTIONING. MERCEDES SENT A REPRESENTATIVE, WHO DETERMINED ME THAT I MUST HAVE RAN OVER SOMETHING IN THE ROAD, CAUSING THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE TO LOCK, WHICH RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. IT HIT THE CURB, CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. I WENT OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TAKE A LOOK UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. I OBSERVED NO DAMAGE UNDERNEATH. THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO THE INSIDE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE WHICH HAD A LIGHT SCRATCH MARK WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DENT. THEY STATED IT WAS MY PROBLEM, AND THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE AIRBAG. I CONTACTED MERCEDES BENZ COLLISION CENTER ABOUT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. MECHANIC STATED THE SENSOR FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS IN THE DOOR AND SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF IF SOMETHING HIT THE RIGHT POINT. I CONTACTED MERCEDES BENZ CORPORATION ASKING TO SPEAK TO THE REPRESENTATIV E WHO CAME OUT WITH THE DECISION, THEY DENIED MY REQUEST. I INFORMED MERCEDES BENZ THAT MAYBE THERE WAS NO A DEFECT IN OTHER MERCEDES BENZ VEHICLES, BUT THERE WAS ONE WITH MINE. I TOLD THEM THAT I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND LUCKILY I KNEW HOW TO MANUEVER A CAR IN THAT TYPE OF SITUATION BECAUSE OF ALL THE TRAINING I HAVE HAD. I TOLD THEM IF IT WAS SOMEBODY ELSE THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN TOTALED AND SOMEONE COULD HAVE DIED. THEY TOLD ME POUND SAND, WELL NOT IN THOSE EXACT WORDS.*AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 50 IN SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, IN A 2007 C230 MERCEDES BENZ, WHEN I RAN OVER AN OBJECT. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE IMMEDIATELY WENT FLAT. I DROVE TO A TIRE FACILITY AND HAD THE TIRE EXCHANGED FOR THE SPARE. THE TIRE FACILITY SUGGESTED I TAKE THE CAR TO MERCEDES BENZ. ON THE WAY TO MERCEDES BENZ I STOPPED AT AN AUTOMOBILE REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE TIRE AND RIM INSPECTED. THE MIDDLE OF THE RIM WAS CRACKED AND RUPTURED. THE SHOP OWNER STATED HE HAD BEEN IN THE AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS FOR 30 YEARS AND HAD NEVER SEEN A RIM FAILURE OF THAT TYPE. *AK I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MERCEDES BENZ SACRAMENTO AND THE SERVICEMAN TOLD ME TIRES AND RIMS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HE DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO TAKE THE TIRE OUT OF THE TRUNK. I SAID I WISHED TO SPEAK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE INFORMED ME THE SERVICE MANAGER WASN'T IN. I SAID I WOULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE THE SERVICE MANAGER - THAT I HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE RIM FAILURE. WHEN I MET WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, I VOICED MY CONCERNS REGARDING THE RIM. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME LATER IN THE AFTERNOON AND STATED THE DAMAGE WOULD BE AT MY COST AND WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I INQUIRED WHY THIS WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE I WAS ONLY 4 MONTHS INTO THE LEASE OF THIS NEW CAR. THE ANSWER WAS TIRES AND RIMS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE'S LEFT A VOICE MAIL MESSAGE FOR GENERAL MANAGER OF MERCEDES BENZ SACRAMENTO TO CALL ME REGARDING THIS RIM FAILURE AND MY CONCERNS. HE CALLED ME BACK AND DEFENDED THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND SERVICE MANAGER'S DECISIONS TO GIVE THE STOCK ANSWER IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I POINTED OUT TO THE GENERAL MANAGER THAT MY CONCERN WAS THE RIM HAD RUPTURED AND CRACKED AND THAT THIS WAS A NEW VEHICLE. I FELT MY CONCERNS WERE BEING IGNORED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MR. CROWLEY DID NOT SEEM TO BE OF THE SAME OPINION. THE TIRE AND RIM WERE BEING REPLACED AT A FACILITY OTHER THAN MERCEDES BENZ. *AK
I TOOK DELIVERY OF A NEW 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C280 4MATIC VEHICLE THE 1ST WEEK OF JANUARY,2007 & ON JANUARY 14, 2007 I WAS RETURNING HOME ON A US HIGHWAY IN SEMINOLE COUNTY, OKLAHOMA WHEN I APPROACHED A SMALL (8 INCHES TALL) HOUSE CAT OR POSSUM & WAS UNABLE TO AVOID RUNNING OVER THE ANIMAL. RATHER THAN THE ANIMAL MAKING CONTACT WITH THE "SKID (PROTECTIVE) PLATE" & FALLING TO THE PAVEMENT, THE ANIMAL BUSTED THROUGH THE PLATE & ENTERED INTO THE RADIATOR FAN UNIT DOING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE (APPROXIMATELY $3000). UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE "SKID PLATE" WAS A THIN PLASTIC COVERING NOT CAPABLE OF DEFLECTING THE IMPACT OF AN OBJECT, BUT RATHER ALLOWING THE OBJECT TO ENTER THE ENGINE CAVITY. I WOULD REQUEST THAT A STUDY BE DONE TO DETERMINE IF THIS PLATE MEETS THE INDUSTRY STANDARDS. *TR
