My car seat belts not fastened and car door warning devices stop working. I took it to the Mercedes service department and told and showed them the safety system was not warning me when my door was not properly closed or when I removed the seat belt while driving. They told me that they needed to replace my instrument cluster in order to fix the issue. They charged me almost $2300.00 to change the panel. When I went to pick the vehicle up. And I drove off and took my seat belt off to see if the repair was done and no warning light came on. I than while driving through a parking lot open my door and no warning happened. Now the dealership is telling me that their is nothing they can do to address this dangerous safety issue and that I have no recourse to get what I paid for. Because Mercedes Benz Corp will not allow them to code the new instrument cluster. I was driving one day and did not realize the door was ajar until I hit a bump and heard the rattling. I have spoken with other Mercedes Benz owners of my model and found they've had this problem, but it is just too expensive to repair. I have been dealing with this now since December of 2021 and now no one from the dealership is returning any calls or offered a answer to this issue. I have spoken with the Service Director last on February 7 2022. And he has not reached out to me since.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ E500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RELEASING THE DRIVER'S SEAT, THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH AN AUDIBLE CHIME. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT REAR PASSENGER'S SEAT BELT FAILED LATCH SECURELY IN THE BUCKLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CENTER SEAT BELT TONGUE CEASED IN THE BUCKLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V534000 (SEAT BELTS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
BACK AIR BAG BEHIND DRIVER LOST AIR WHILE DRIVING. TOOK IN TO REPAIR THEY THOUGHT IT WAS AIR LINE. THEY REPAIRED BUT SAME THING HAPPENED LEAVING REPAIR SHOP AT AN INTERSECTION. ALL THE LIGHT TURNED ON TO STOP DRIVING JUST LIKE BEFORE. I TOWED BACK TO SHOP.THEY SAID THE WHOLE SYSTEM NEEDED TO ALL BE REPLACED.MY ONLY REASON TO FILE THIS IS THE FEAR I HAD OF GETTING HURT OR HURTING OTHER BY MY VEHICLE JUST BEING UNDRIVABLE WHILE IN MOTION ON MAJOR INTSECTION.THIS PROBLEM OCCURED BEFORE BUT ALWAYS WHEN LEAVING MY HOME SO ID JUST WAIT FOR THE AIR SUSPENSION SELF CORRECT. WHICH IT HAD BEFORE.I WAS ONLY GOING 15MPG OR SO WHEN IT GAVE OUT I WAS APPROCHING MY RIGHT HAND TURN. WE ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP WITH MORE DETAILS AND DOCUMENTATION IF NEEDED.

MERCEDES WANTED TO CHARGE ME $4000.00 TO HAVE IT FIX SO I TOOK MY CAR TO A FOREIGN CAR REPAIR SHOP WHO CHARGE ME $1,300.00. PROBLEM FIXED, HOWEVER I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR TO MERCEDES BECAUSE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON SO THEY CHARGED ME $2,100.00 TO FIX THAT ALONG WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE. *TR

THE SRS, (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM) OR "AIR BAG" LIGHT ILLUMINATED, CAUSED BY THE SRSCONTROL UNIT EXPERIENCING AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL FAULT. THE FAULT DISPLAYED CODE 9120. MERCEDES VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL ARE KNOWN TO HAVE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS ISSUES. EVEN THOUGH MY ISSUE WASN'T THE HARNESS ITSELF, IT PRESENTS A FLAW RESULTING IN A SAFETY AND STATE INSPECTION ISSUE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A BAD WIRE CONNECTION. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
ON 12/6/07 MY FAMILY WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION THAT CAUSED BOTH FRONT AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. MY CONCERN IS REGARDING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED ACCORDING TO THE DASHBOARD CONSOLE. WHEN MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE ?PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF? LIGHT STAYED ON AND THIS WAS THE ONLY REASON WE LET HER RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. UNFORTUNATELY IN THIS ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHICH CAUSED MINOR HEAD INJURIES. I CONTACTED MERCEDES BENZ OF SACRAMENTO TO LOOK INTO THIS AND THEY INDICATED THAT IF THE LIGHT INDICATED THE AIRBAG WAS OFF, THE AIRBAG SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THE AIRBAG SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED IF THE PASSENGER WEIGHED LESS THAN 60 LBS. IN THIS SITUATION THE PASSENGER WEIGHED APPROXIMATELY 50 LBS. I ASKED MERCEDES BENZ TO CHECK THE VEHICLE FOR DEFECTS, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE EQUIPMENT TO CHECK THE CAR IN THE FIELD. I WOULD HAVE TO BRING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED. UNFORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER DRIVABLE AND WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY SO I AM NO LONGER THE LEGAL OWNER. TO AVOID THIS SITUATION FROM HAPPENING TO ANY OTHER UNSUSPECTING FAMILY, I NEED TO KNOW IF WE WERE DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR IF THERE IS A MANUFACTURER?S DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
