MY CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET JUST SHUT DOWN RED FLASHING SCREEN SAYING STOP REDUCE BREAKING POWER START ENGINE DON'T KNOW IT SAYS THIS CAUSE CAR DON'T HAVE ANY POWER THE GAS PEDDLE DON'T WORK THE BREAKS DIDN'T EVEN GOOD THING I WAS GOING SLOW IN MY AREA HAD TO GET CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHICH THEY TOLD ME MY AIR FILTERS WAS CLOGGED WHICH I PAYED THEM TO GET NEW ONES THEN I STILL WANTED TO FIND OUT WHY MY CAR JUST SHUT DOWN SO TOOK IT TO MERCEDES DEALER IN FORT WASHINGTON PA THE CHECK IT OUT AND SAID MY BREAKS WAS WEARING SO I HAD TO PAY THEM 589.00 FOR FRONT AND BACK BRAKES SBC SYSTEM THEY SAID IS OK I AM STILL SCARED OF THIS CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ E320. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED SO THAT AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED OVER 300,000 TIMES, THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SBC BRAKE UNIT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT WAS A KNOWN FAILURE AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY AN ADDITIONAL 10 YEARS; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SURPASSED THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BY SIX MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO IMMEDIATELY STOP THE VEHICLE AS THE CONTACT DROVE THROUGH A RED LIGHT. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AT 415-673-1700 AND INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A RECALL FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM; HOWEVER, HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE CORRECT NHTSA CAMPAIGN INFORMATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 201,517.
LEAKING FUEL PUMP, EMITTING GAS ODORS IN BACK SEAT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. COULD NOT FILL UP GAS TANK OR THE SMELL IS TOO MUCH. NOT SAFE TO TRAVEL WITH FRIENDS IN THE CAR. EVENTUALLY THE FUEL PUMP STOPPED WORKING AND WE WERE FORCED TO REPAIR IT BY PURCHASING AN ENTIRE NEW GAS TANK INCLUDING TWO FUEL PUMPS WHICH ARE ENCLOSED IN THE SYSTEM. OTHER MERCEDES LIKE OURS HAVE HAD THEIR GAS TANKS REPLACED OR UNDER WARRANTY BY MERCEDES, BUT THEY DO NOT INCLUDE OUR VIN NUMBER (?) IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER CARS. THEY REFUSE TO COMPENSATE US FOR THIS UNSAFE PROBLEM THAT MERCEDES HAS REFUSED TO ADEQUATELY TAKE CARE OF FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. WE WENT TO MERCEDES IN TEMECULA CALIFORNIA A COUPLE TIMES DURING LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR ASKING THEM TO TAKE CARE OF IT. THEY REFUSED. WE DIDN'T WANT THE CAR AND IT'S PROBLEMS ANYMORE SO SOLD IT AFTER WE PAID MORE THAN $3,000 TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM. WE WERE RECENTLY INFORMED THAT MERCEDES WAS OFFERING COMPENSATION, SO WE HAD OUR MECHANIC SUBMIT ALL THE DOCUMENTS FOR THE MERCEDES FACTORY ORIGINAL PART THAT WE HAD TO REPLACE, BUT AGAIN THEY REFUSED TO COMPENSATE US. THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE AVOIDING TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR UNSAFE PROBLEMS WITH THESE MODELS.
I SMELL A HEAVY FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I FILL THE FUEL TANK TO 100%. CALLED MERCEDES AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH I SEE THAT THEY HAVE INDEED HAD A RECALL OUT FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND ONLINE, MY CAR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL FOR 15 YEARS WITH UNLIMITED MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ABS INDICATOR WAS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKES INDEPENDENTLY APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 162,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 19500 ORIGINAL MILES WHICH I BOUGHT FROM MY AUNT WHO DIDN'T DRIVE THE CAR THAT MUCH BECAUSE OF GAS SMELL INSIDE ESPECIALLY AFTER FILLING UP GAS FULL TANK WHICH I ALSO ENCOUNTERED THAT MAKES ME WORRY THAT MIGHT CAUSE COMBUSTION OR FIRE. I SEARCH THE INTERNET AND MOST THE MB E-CLASS OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH IS I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT TO RECALL BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THAT POSSIBLY CAN CAUSE FIRE OR WILL LOST LIVES. I HAVE 3 KIDS WITH ME DRIVING AND PICKING THEM UP AT SCHOOL AND IT REALLY WORRIES ME. NHTSA PLEASE MAKE AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS REGARD ASAP. THANK YOU AND MORE POWER.

THE WALTERS MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
I HAVE A BENZ E350 2006 WITH 60K MILES. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BALANCE SHAFT GEAR PROBLEM. MERCEDES-BENZ HAD A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT COMPLAINT FILED FOR THIS ISSUE FOR SOME OF THEIR CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM AS WELL AS FAULTY ENGINES & IDLE GEARS. THERE ARE MORE THAN 100000 CARS FROM 2005 TO 2007 MODEL YEARS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THEY MANAGED TO GET AWAY WITHOUT ISSUING A RECALL. WHAT SURPRISES ME IS EVEN WITH THE CLASS ACTION SUIT, THEY PAY ONLY 30% OF THE REPAIR COST. DEALERSHIP ESTIMATE FOR THIS REPAIR IS $7500. THEY HAVE TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE ENGINE/MOTOR AND OPEN IT UP TO REPLACE THE SMALL PART. MERCEDES BENZ IS NOT WORTH BUYING. MERCEDES BENZ NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FAULTY EQUIPMENT. MERCEDES BENZ DOES NOT HAVE THE REPUTATION IT USED TO HAVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED LOWER BACK AND NECK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
STRONG FUEL SMELL COMING FROM THE OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE
THE SBC BRAKE SYSTEM ON MY AUTO IS SHOWING A WARNING TO SEND THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW ABS SYSTEM $2200.00. MANY MERCEDES OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SBC BRAKE SYSTEM. THE BRAKES ARE VERY DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS TO WORK ON! THE HYDRAULICS SHOULD HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY.
THERE IS A VERY BAD FUEL SMELL COMING OUT OF THE CAR. INSIDE THE VEHICLE IS NOT SMELLY BUT THE EXTERIOR SMELLS PRETTY BAD. SCARED THAT THESE FUEL VAPORS A HAZARD AND WONDERING IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THAT. CAR IS 2006 MODEL.
I WENT TO A HARDWARE STORE AND PARKED THE CAR IN THE STORE PARKING LOT. ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER SOMEBODY CAME IN AND ASKED ME IF I WAS DRIVING A SILVER MERCEDES; I TOLD HIM YES AND HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ON FIRE. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE STORE I SAW MY CAR'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED ON THE SCENE THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HAD BEEN GUTTED AND THE FIRE HAD SPREAD TO ANOTHER CAR WHICH WAS PARKED INFRONT OF MINE.

WENT ON LINE, SAW THAT MERCEDES TOLD NHTSA THAT IT WILL EXTEND WARRANTY TO 15 YEARS UNLIMITED MILEAGE, AND THAT THEY WILL COVER FUEL PUMP, FUEL TANK,AND ALL RELATED GASKETS. SMELL IS EVEN WORSE WHEN TANK IS FULL! I REMOVED REAR SEAT AND FOUND GAS SEAPAGE ON TOP OF FUEL PUMP, AND REAR SEAT WAS WET UNDERNEATH WITH GAS. WILL MERCEDES COVER THIS?? WILL THEY GIVE ME A HARD TIME I HAVE LOVED THE CAR BUT THIS IS KIND OF SCARY AS I TAKE MY GRANDDAUGHTER TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND DRIVE IT TO WORK. AT 73,480 MILES THIS 2006 MERCEDES HAS A FAULTY CONDUCTOR PLATE VALVE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS FAULTY CONDUCTOR PLATE/SPEED SENSOR CAUSES THE CAR NOT TO SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND INSTEAD SPINS WITHOUT GOING INTO GEAR. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION WHILE THIS OCCURS. AT STOP LIGHT, TRIED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD AND COULD NOT. SHUT CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. CARS IN BACK OF ME PROCEEDING = DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE TURNING OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING CAR ONLY TO MOVE FORWARD! THERE WERE ALSO PREVIOUS OCCURRENCES OF THE SAME INCIDENT.
THE ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON AND WAS CHECKED AT THE DEARLERSHIP AND SHOWED TO REPLACE SHAFT. IT SEEMED A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH SAME INDICATION. COST TO REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT $5,500.
I EXPERIENCED IMMEDIATE BRAKE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING WITH NO ADVANCED WARNING. RECEIVED RED LIGHT WARNING MESSAGING STATING REDUCED BRAKING ABILITY AND TO VISIT WORKSHOP. IMMEDIATELY STEPPED FULLY ON BRAKE PEDAL WITH MINIMAL TO NO RESPONSE. CAR EVENTUALLY SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP. A SIGNIFICANT COLLISION WAS AVOIDED BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AROUND 15 MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL SIDE-STREET WITH NO OTHER TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. HAD I BEEN TRAVELING ON A MAJOR ROAD AT 35-40MPH WITH MODERATE TRAFFIC I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO AVOID A SERIOUS COLLISION. MERCEDES BENZ HAS RECOGNIZED THIS BRAKING ISSUE AND ORDERED AN EXTENDED 10 YEAR WARRANTY WITH UNLIMITED MILES ON THE HYDRAULIC SBC SYSTEM, BUT I WAS TOLD MY 2006 VEHICLE WAS "OUT OF WARRANTY" BY THE DEALERSHIP AND WOULD NEED TO PAY $2275 FOR REPAIRING THE HYDRAULIC SBC. THIS PROBLEM IS AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY CONCERN GIVEN THE ACUTE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE HIGH LIKELIHOOD OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
DRIVING ON I-270 AT 55 MPH SUDDENLY BRAKES STOPPED FUNCTIONING AT ALL, DASHBOARD TURNED RED WITH THE MESSAGE REDUCED BRAKING POWER DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL FULLY, BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKING POWER AT ALL. ALMOST LOST CONTROL.... SCARED I WAS GOING TO HIT ANOTHER CAR OR INVOLVE IN ACCIDENT... VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *TR
WAS DRIVING THE MERCEDES E350 ON A HILLY ROAD ON NOV 15, 2016 WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST PRETTY MUCH ALL BRAKING CAPABILITY. THE DASH STARTED FLASHING "STOP REDUCED BRAKING POWER. DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL FULLY" LOOKS LIKE THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT ON THE BRAKE PUMP/CONTROLLER. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE CAUSES SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND PHYSICAL INJURY IF IT HAD OCCURRED AT HIGHER SPEEDS OR DIFFERENT TERRAIN.
DUE TO INVESTIGATION EA 13-003 FOR FUEL SYSTEM, WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 15 YEARS WITH UNLIMITED MILES FOR THE FUEL PUMP ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS WAS PRESUMABLY DONE TO AVOID A RECALL. SOUTH BAY MERCEDES BENZ IS REFUSING TO HONOR THIS WARRANTY THOUGH ALL CRITERIA HAVE BEEN MET.

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE WARNING INDICATOR CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSORTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V296000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
DRIVER SIDE EXTERIOR MIRROR TURNED RED TINT IN COLOR, LOST CLARITY. SAME AS DESCRIBED BY OTHERS ON INTERNET
TL* THE CONTACT WANTED TO USE THE EMAIL THAT HE SENT TO THE HOTLINE FOR HIS COMPLAINT. "THE DOCUMENTED ISSUE OCCURRED WHEN MY CAR TURNED 8 OR 9 YEARS OLD (2006 MERCEDES BENZ E500 IN MINT CONDITION WITH 82,000 MILES) WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHTS INTERMITTEDLY COMES ON. NOW, IT IS ON NEARLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE THAT OF A WEIGHT SENSOR, AND SAID WHENEVER THE LIGHT IS ON, ALL AIRBAGS ARE TURNED OFF AND WILL NOT DEPLOY. NOW IT IS NEARING 10 YEARS OLD AND AM STILL TRYING TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR IT UNDER THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY ($850 TO $1000) AS YOUR AGENCY HAS DEFINED, "'MANUFACTURERS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO REMEDY VEHICLES FOR FREE THAT ARE MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD ON THE DATE THE DEFECT OR NONCOMPLIANCE IS DETERMINED. UNDER THE LAW, THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE IS CALCULATED FROM THE DATE OF SALE TO THE FIRST PURCHASER'" THE ONLY RECALL THAT I AM AWARE FOR THIS CAR IS FOR THE AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS IN THE STEERING COLUMN, AND NOT FOR THE WEIGHT SENSOR THEY HAVE DIAGNOSED. IT IS NOT MY UNDERSTANDING THAT A CAR MUST HAVE TO FACE A RECALL TO OBLIGE THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG COMPONENT." THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR AIR BAGS NOT ADJUSTING CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES BENZ E500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON, THE CLUSTER FAILED TO ACTIVATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THE CLUSTER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
CAR HAS "SENSOTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM", SBC, THAT UPON FAILURE RENDERS THE CAR UNSAFE AS ONLY THE FRONT WHEEL BRAKES WILL HAVE PARTIAL HYDRAULIC POWER TO STOP THE CAR. REF: MB BULLETIN "S142.46-P-0012A" FAILURE OCCURS WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING OR BRAKE DEGRADATION. MY CAR HAS HAD SEVERAL TRANSITORY FAILURES AS I WAS DRIVING. ONLY TURNING OFF THE KEY AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN DID I REGAIN NORMAL BRAKING. ALSO UPON SBC FAILURE THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITH A FUNCTIONING REVERSION TO "HYDRAULIC MODE." MERCEDES BENZ SHOULD IMMEDIATELY RECALL AND REPLACE ALL SBC UNITS ASAP TO ELIMINATE THIS "TIME BOMB." *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. AFTER RETREIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER WHERE A RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL STILL PRESENT IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP AS PART OF THE RECALL. THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND CAUSED THE REAR SEAT CUSHION AND THE HEAT PAD TO BECOME FILLED WITH FUEL. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT REPLACE THE CUSHION AND HEAT PAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,600.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR TWO MONTHS AGO FROM AUTO DEALER WHO GAVE ME COPY OF CAR FAX REPORT. NO PROBLEMS WERE INDICATED. AFTER FILLING CAR UP WITH GAS (NOT TOPPING IT OFF) THERE IS AN EXTREMELY STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE AND ESPECIALLY OUTSIDE THE BACK OF THE CAR. THE SMELL GOES AWAY AFTER THE GAS TANK REACHES 3/4 FULL. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THE PREVIOUS CAR OWNER HAD THE CAR SERVICED AT THE MERCEDEZ BENZ DEALERSHIP 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE OWNER THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS LEAKING BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER REFUSED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THIS WAS NOT NOTED IN THE CAR FAX REPORT - ONLY THAT THERE WERE NO SERVICE ISSUES. I REQUESTED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM BE REPAIRED UNDER THE 15 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT MERCEDEZ BENZ SAYS THAT THE CAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENSION.
TAKATA RECALL I WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE REAR PASSENGER (BEHIND THE DRIVER).
THE TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. I WAS STUCK IN EITHER FIRST OR SECOND GEAR. I LEARN THAT IT WAS IN LIMP MODE. THE 722.9 TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE SENSOR IS KNOWN TO HAVE THESE ISSUE AS I LEARNED FROM MANY MERCEDES OWNER THAT HAVE THE 7SPEED TRANNY. PLEASE ADVISE ON THIS SUBJECT TO TAKE ACTION ON RECALLING THE SERVICE FOR MY CAR. I HAVE 2006 E350,2014ML550,2007 S550. THESE CARS ALL HAVE THE CODE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE CODE IS P0717 AND P0718. PERSISTENT SMELL OF DIESEL IN CABIN AFTER FILLING TANK. LEAK ISOLATED TO RIGHT SIDE (PASSENGER SIDE) FUEL SENDER CAP UNDER REAR SEATS. SAME AS GASOLINE VERSIONS, THIS REALLY HAPPENS IN THE CDI OR DIESEL VERSIONS AS WELL. THE WARRANTY EXTENSION/RECALL SHOULD APPLY TO THESE CARS AS WELL!
THE BRAKES ON THIS CAR FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEED. I HAVE CONTACTED MERCEDES AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO PAY THE COST OF THE SPC BRAKE UNIT UNDER WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THE COSTS OF LABOR IS VERY HIGH AND I HAVE TO COVER IT. I AM A RETIRED ELDERLY COMBAT DISABLED WAR VETERAN WITH LIMITED FUNDS AND BELIEVE MERCEDES SHOULD RECALL THESE DANGEROUS VEHICLES AND AND COVER THE ENTIRE COSTS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON....CAR VIBRATES (SHAKES!) ...I PULL OVER, STOP THE CAR, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND THE PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR AGAIN ...IN TEN YEARS THIS EPISODE HAS OCCURRED THREE OR FOUR TIMES. I BROUGHT IT IN THE A LOCAL MBZ WARRANTY FACILITY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG...AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL 2 WEEKS AGO WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC WHO WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBEM AS THE "INTAKE MANIFOLD ACTUATOR LINKAGE BROKEN" MERCEDES BENZ USA WILL NOT PAY TO REPAIR IT...MY MECHANIC IN SAN DIEGO SAID I WAS THE EIGTH CAR MBZ 2005 TO 2007 THAT HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE SHAKING OCCURRED. IT HAPPENED BOTH ON HIGHWAY AND STREET ...I WAS NOT TURNING.
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT SAT. APRIL 9, 2016. I STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS STOPPED DEAD STILL IN THE ROAD. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY . I WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED OVER 30 MILES AN HOUR BUT LESS THAN 45 MPH AND THE IMPACT WAS DEAD ON, NO GLANCING BLOW. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON A STATE HIGHWAY ABOUT 10 P.M.
THE VEHICLE LEAKS GAS WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED. IT SEEMS TO DRIP INTERNALLY AND CAN BE HEARD AS DROPS. THE ACCUMULATED GAS THEN EVAPORATES AND IT HAS A VERY STRONG SMELL. IN THE GARAGE, THE SMELL IS EXTREMELY STRONG. NO WET AREAS UNDER THE CAR. GAS SEEMS TO COLLECT ON SOME OF THE PLASTIC COVERS UNDER THE VEHICLE AND CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST. APPEARS TO BE MORE PRONOUNCED REAR/DRIVER SIDE. IF THIS GAS GOT IN CONTACT WITH THE EXHAUST IT COULD CASE A SERIOUS AND POSSIBLY FATAL FIRE.
THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT HAS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE TO THE POINT OF FEELING DIZZY IN MY 10 MINUTE COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK. THIS STARTED A FEW MONTHS AGO AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE BY THE WEEK. WHAT APPEARS TO BE A GASOLINE LEAK HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT NOW EVEN THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE. I'VE HAD TO RESORT TO DRIVING WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN AND PARKING MY CAR OUTSIDE THE GARAGE FOR FEAR OF EITHER PASSING OUT WHEN DRIVING OR CREATING A FIRE HAZARD IN MY GARAGE.
THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT NOTIFY ME OF THE RECALL AS A REGISTERED OWNER AND THE RECALL EXPIRED AND THEY WILL NOT COVER IT.
FUEL IS LEAKING OUT OF MY E320 CDI, THERE IS ALSO AN INTENSE FUEL SMELL, IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE THAT THE NHTSA PREVIOUSLY ORDERED MERCEDES TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANKS ON ALL 2003-2009 E-CLASS MERCEDES, BUT MERCEDES SAYS IT ONLY APPLIES TO GASOLINE ENGINES.
ON JANUARY 29, 2016, I WAS GOING TOWARDS THE EXIT OF MY DEVELOPMENT BUT BEFORE I GOT TO A MAIN ROAD (I WAS TRAVELING SLOWLY ABOUT 20 MPH AND DRIVING STRAIGHT) I WAS USING BRAKES AND RED MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH BOARD STATING REDUCED BRAKE POWER AND TO DEPRESS BAKE PEDAL WHICH I DID BUT THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE CAR KEPT MOVING SO I LET THE CAR MOVE INTO THE CURB WHERE THERE WAS SNOW. I TURNED CAR OFF AND TURNED BACK ON AND THE WARNING MESSAGE WAS NO LONGER DISPLAYED AND CAR FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. I CALLED MB DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND I DID RESEARCH BEFORE CALLING AND LEARNED THE SUBCOMMITTEE PUMP IS THE PROBLEM AND THERE IS A TEN YEAR UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY ON THE MATTER. EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS A 2006, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT THE END OF 2015 BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IN 2005 (I BOUGHT IT USED IN 2008). SINCE IT WAS ALMOST 1 MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD BE 3000-4000 TO REPLACE SAC SYSTEM. THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED MOST DEFINITELY AS I WAS IN A PANIC WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. I WAS JUST FORTUNATE THAT IT DID NOT OCCUR IN TRAFFIC. PLEASE MAKE MB CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AS IT OBVIOUSLY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND PEOPLE COULD BE INJURED IF NOT WORSE.

SMELLS LIKE GAS IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AND STRONGER SMELL IN THE TRUNK. SMELLS MORE WHEN IT'S FULL OF GAS.THERES NO LEAK IN FUEL PUMP SENDING UNITS.
STRONG GASOLINE SMELL WHEN CAR HAS A FULL TANK OF GAS, SMELL GOES AWAY WHEN GAS IS DOWN TO 3/4 FULL
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR OFF THE FRWY AND WAS TURNING ON THE RAMP WHEN MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING
THE INSULATION COVERING THE ELECTRICAL WIRING THAT POWERS THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDES HAS FAILED AND CRUMBLED AWAY EXPOSING THE BARE COPPER WIRE. THIS CIRCUIT POWERS TWO HALOGEN 55 WATT BULBS (110 WATTS TOTAL OR ~10 AMPS) AT 12 VOLTS. THE INSULATION FAILURE WILL PRESENT AN IMMEDIATE VEHICLE FIRE HAZARD IF THE ELECTRICAL PROTECTION FUSE FAILS TO ACTUATE AS A RESULT OF THE SHORT CIRCUIT CREATED BY POTENTIAL BARE WIRE CONTACT. IF THE ELECTRICAL PROTECTION FUSE DOES ACTUATE PROPERLY THE CAR WILL LOSE FORWARD ILLUMINATION WHICH IS ESSENTIAL FOR SAFE VEHICLE OPERATION AT NIGHT. IN EITHER INSTANCE A PROPERTY AND PERSONAL HAZARD CAN RESULT FROM THIS DEFECT. THIS DEFECT CAN BE TRACED DIRECTLY TO THE WIRE MERCEDES BENZ SELECTED FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF THIS CIRCUITRY. EITHER THE GAUGE OF THE WIRE SELECTED IS INSUFFICIENT TO DISSIPATE THE HEAT GENERATED BY THE CURRENT FLOW THE CIRCUIT DEMANDS OR THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE SELECTED IS INHERENTLY DEFECTIVE AS EVIDENCED BY ITS CRUMBLING DETERIORATION FOR A COMPONENT THAT SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IN EITHER CASE THIS WIRING FAILURE CONSTITUTES A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO RECALL AND CORRECTION BY THE MANUFACTURER AT HIS EXPENSE. THE DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE A FAILED LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB, A MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY THAT CAN REASONABLY BE EXPECTED TO BE PERFORMED A NUMBER OF TIMES DURING THE VEHICLE'S LIFESPAN. THE DEFECTIVE INSULATION WAS IMMEDIATELY EVIDENT BY VISUAL AND TACTILE OBSERVATION. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY CLEAR AN IMMEDIATE HAZARD WAS PRESENT AND THAT THE LIGHTING COULD NOT BE USED RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO OPERATE UNDER CONDITION WHEN THE LIGHTING CIRCUIT MIGHT BE OPERATED.
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL THAT HAS A SERVICE THRESHOLD. WHEN THIS THRESHOLD IS REACHED THE BRAKE SYSTEM DEFAULTS TO NON POWER ASSISTED HYDRAULIC MODE TO THE FRONT WHEELS ONLY. THIS OCCURS WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING AND RESULTS IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. MERCEDES BENZ HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN S142.46-P-0012A WHICH ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. MERCEDES STOPPED INSTALLING THIS SYSTEM IN 2006. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

THIS NEEDS TO BE CHECK INTO, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL BOTTOM OUT , TIRES ON THE FRAME. THE AROMATIC STRUTS FAIL AND MAKE CAR UN DRIVABLE. VERY COSTLY REPAIR.
