TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES BENZ E350. WHEN THE CONTACT REFUELED THE VEHICLE AND PARKED IT INSIDE THE GARAGE, A FUEL ODOR WAS PRESENT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WENT OVER BAD BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE CAR NOW HAS A FUEL SMELL FROM A LEAK. GAS FUMES ARE APPARENT IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. *TR
FUEL SMELL OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE AFTER FILLING THE TANK. TOOK TO DEALER IN VALENCIA CA. THEY TIGHTENED THE FUEL FILLER NECK. THE FOLLOWING WEEK WHEN WE FILLED UP, SAME ISSUE. RESPONDED VIA EMAIL TO SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. BROUGHT CAR BACK FOR SERVICE IN NOV 2014. DEALER SAYS CAR OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY 3 WEEKS. COST: $2500. OFFERS 15% OFF SERVICE, THIS IS A NICE GESTURE AND IT IS APPRECIATED. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED (AND NOT CORRECTED) WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. DEFECT INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AT NHTSA AND A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FILED IN GA. WE FEEL MB IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUMES WERE EMITTED IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
THE GAS GAUGE RANDOMLY SHOWS INCORRECT FUEL LEVEL REMAINING. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KNOW HOW MUCH GAS AND DISTANCE/MILES REMAIN BEFORE A REFILL IS NEEDED. AFTER A FULL REFILL THE GAUGE SEEMS TO ACCURATELY SHOW A FULL TANK. RANDOMLY, WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE GAUGE SOMETIMES SHOWS INCORRECT FUEL LEVELS AT EMPTY OR MUCH LESS THAN ACTUAL. THIS SOMETIMES CORRECTED VIA RESTARTING CAR. SOMETIMES RESTARTING DOES NOT CORRECT THE GAUGE. *TR
GAS SMELL INSIDE OF THE CAR. *TR
THE CAR EXUDES A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. THE GASOLINE ODOR IS SO STRONG THAT I CAN NO LONGER PARK THE CAR IN THE GARAGE OF OUR HOUSE AS THE FUMES ARE SO OVERPOWERING THEY SEEP INTO THE HOME LIVING AREAS AND CANNOT BE TOLERATED (BREATHING). OVERALL, THE GAS FUMES ARE STRONG ENOUGH THAT I DO FEAR THAT SOMETHING EXTERNAL (COOKING, WATER HEATER PILOT LIGHT) COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE SPONTANEOUS FUME IGNITION/FIRE. *TR
ENGINE DEVELOPED CATASTROPHIC OIL LEAK. OIL LEAKED FROM OIL COOLER SEALS. I WAS INFORMED BY MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE SEALS WERE REDESIGNED. THE ORIGINAL SEALS WERE MADE OF AN ORANGE RUBBER MATERIAL AND THE REPLACEMENT SEALS ARE MADE OF A PURPLE VITON MATERIAL. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE SEALS WERE REPLACED.
I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 2.5 YEARS. SINCE MAY OF 2013 I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THREE WHEELS (RIMS). IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE THEY ARE SO HARD TO LOCATE I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE AFTER MARKET WHEELS. ONCE THE CRACK WAS RATHER LARGE AND THE LAST TWO WERE NOTICED WHEN I REPLACED THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. THEY WERE SMALLER AND EVENTUALLY WOULD NOT HOLD AIR IN THE TIRE. THIS HAS TO BE A FLAW IN THE PRODUCT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES E550. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR WAS PRESENT OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I STARTED THE CAR AND TURNED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT. I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS DRIVING DOWN MY STREET WHEN I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE SO I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING SO I GOT BACK IN MY CAR AND STARTED TO DRIVE AGAIN. THE ODOR KEPT GETTING STRONGER AND NOW THE LEFT SIDE OF MY DRIVERS SIDE SEAT STARTED TO GET REALLY HOT AND THEN I FELT A BURNING SENSATION ON MY BACK. I STOPPED MY CAR AND JUMPED OUT TO SEE A SMALL HOLE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A NICKEL MELTING AND A SMALL ORANGE FLAME BURNING. LUCKILY I HAD A BOTTLE OF WATER AND POURED IT ON THE SEAT AND THEN TURNED THE SEAT HEATER OFF. *TR
THIS CAR AUTO ACCELERATED WHILE I WAS PARKING IN THE MIDDLE OF A RESIDENTIAL STREET ON SEP 14, 2013. MY CAR ENDED UP HITTING ANOTHER PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY CAR DAMAGE IS AROUND $13,000. IT IS THE 2ND TIME WHEN IT HAS AUTO ACCELERATED WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. THE 1ST. TIME WHEN IT HAPPENED I WAS ON THE ROAD & IT MOVED FEW FEET BY ITSELF WHEN I STOPPED AT A SIGNAL. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL IT BY HITTING THE BREAKS WITH LOTS OF FORCE. THAT TIME, I THOUGHT IT MAY BE MY IMAGINATION OR EARTHQUAKE, BUT THIS TIME, 2ND TIME, THE ENGINE MADE A RACING SOUND & IT JUST WENT OUT OF CONTROL & HIT THE OTHER PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME DESPITE OF ME HITTING THE BRAKES. APPARENTLY THE CAR BRAKES COULDN'T DO ANYTHING EITHER & THE END RESULT WAS I HIT THE OTHER PARKED SUV IN FRONT OF ME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ONE INCIDENT MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN THE FAST LANE AND GAS GAUGE INDICATED 1/2 TANK OF FUEL REMAINING AND CAR STALLED BECAUSE OF NO FUEL CAUSING A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION DUE TO NO AREA TO PULL OVER SAFELY. FILLED THE VEHICLE UP WITH GAS LAST NIGHT 5/14/13 AND AFTER LEAVING WORK TODAY NOTICED AN EXTREME ODOR OF GASOLINE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, AND ALSO A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GAS AROUND THE VEHICLE EXTERIORS. *TR

AFTER REPEATED FORCE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. 2008 MERCEDES BENZ E-350. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE GAS LEAK CONCERNS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS, HE NOTICED A VERY STRONG GAS ODOR EMANATING FROM BOTH THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL WAS DETECTED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND WHEN PARKED IN AN ENCLOSED AREA AFTER BEING DRIVEN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, FOR AN INSPECTION. DURING THE INSPECTION, THE DEALER FOUND THERE WAS INDEED A GAS LEAK IN THE RIGHT REAR SEAT AREA. THE GAS LEAK WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FITTING IN THE GAS LINE FROM THE TANK TO THE MOTOR.
REFERENCE PE12001 I OCCASIONALLY SMELL GAS AFTER FILLING UP MY VEHICLE. UNTIL NOW, I'D JUST FIGURED I STEPPED IN SOME FUEL AT THE STATION AND THAT THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM MY SHOES, BUT UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR
THE ELECTRONIC KEYLESS-GO SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE KEY IS PRESENT. THE ISSUE WAS FIRST NOTICED IN 2008 AND BROUGHT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION WITHIN MONTHS OF PURCHASE WHEN THE REAR TAILGATE WOULD NOT CLOSE. REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE LATCHES, THE SWITCHES, AND THE BATTERIES IN THE KEYS HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. IN MARCH 2013 THE KEYLESS-GO SYSTEM STARTED INDICATING "NO KEY WAS DETECTED" WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. ON MARCH 5, 2013 THE DASH WARNING SYSTEM INDICATED THE "NO KEY DETECTED" (ALTHOUGH THE KEY WAS IN THE CAR) IN FREEWAY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A FULL STOP DUE TO TRAFFIC, THE CAR SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE, IN TRAFFIC LANES. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN UNTIL THE KEY WAS RETRIEVED FROM MY POCKET, AND PUT INTO THE KEYHOLE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE ANTENNA BOOSTER (AFTER 4 DAYS OF DIAGNOSTICS). ONE WEEK AFTER THE MOST RECENT REPAIR, THE CAR (WITH THE NEW KEYLESS-GO ANTENNA BOOSTER) AGAIN INDICATED NO KEY PRESENT WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY SPEEDS. *TR
MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE EACH TIME WE BOUGHT GAS AND FILLED UP THE TANK. HAVE MENTIONED THIS NUMEROUS TIMES TO PERSONNEL AT THE DEALERSHIP AND EVERY PERSON JUST EXPRESSED PUZZLEMENT OVER THE PROBLEM AND OFFERED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR AND SEE WHAT THE CAUSE MIGHT BE. I FINALLY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT ABOUT A YEAR LATER TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE OR AT LEAST FINE THE CAUSE BECAUSE THE ODOR WAS GETTING STRONGER....ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE CAR IS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $2000 TO REPAIR THE SEALS BUT THEY WOULD SPLIT THE COST WITH ME. THEY SAID IF I DID NOT REPAIR THE SEALS THE CAR WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE...WE JUST COULD NOT FILL UP THE TANK. I WENT AHEAD WITH THE REPAIRS BUT SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE PROBLEM AND THE ONGOING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF GEORGIA AND THE JUNE 16, 2013 REQUEST BY NHTSA FOR INFORMATION DUE TO 528 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS....PLEASE ADD THIS COMPLAINT TO THE PREVIOUS 528. I THINK SOMEONE AT MERCEDES SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE ONGOING QUESTION OF TANK LEAKAGE....THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH A LEAKING TANK. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL MY 2008 MERCEDES E350 UP WITH GAS, THERE IS A VERY STRONG GAS ODOR COMING FROM THE CAR. THIS STRONG GAS SMELL EMITS FROM THE CAR UNTIL I DRIVE ABOUT 100 MILES (REDUCING GAS LEVELS IN THE TANK). I PARK MY CAR IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE AT NIGHT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL RIM. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION WHICH EMITTED FROM THE TIRE WHENEVER DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS BALANCED AND REALIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL RIM WAS SLIGHTLY BENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
REFERENCE NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12001. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN DECEMBER 2012. ONE DAY AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL I PARKED THE CAR IN MY GARAGE. THE NEXT DAY I CAME OUT TO MY GARAGE AND THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. WHEN I GOT INSIDE OF MY CAR THE SMELL GOT MUCH STRONGER AND IT WAS UNBEARABLE. I COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO DRIVE TO WORK AND THIS WAS THE ONLY CAR AVAILABLE. THIS WAS IN THE DEAD OF WINTER AND I HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN BECAUSE THE GAS SMELL AND FUMES WERE UNBEARABLE. I HAD A TERRIBLE HEADACHE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. I LEFT MY CAR WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN TO HELP AIR IT OUT. WHEN I RETURNED HOME I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A FAR TOO COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE W211 CHASSIS MERCEDES BENZ. PER THE INFORMATION ONLINE I WAS INSTRUCTED TO REMOVE MY REAR PASSENGER SEAT AND CHECK THE FUEL SENDING UNITS UNDERNEATH THE SEATS. SURE ENOUGH WHEN I REMOVED THE COVER OFF THE DRIVERS SIDE FUEL SENDING UNIT THERE WAS A POOL OF GASOLINE! I CLEANED UP ALL OF THE GASOLINE AND LET IT DRY OUT. FROM THIS POINT ON I HAVE NOT FILLED UP MY GAS TANK MORE THAN 3/4 JUST TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. FUEL POOLING INSIDE OF THE CABIN IS DANGEROUS AND UNHEALTHY. MERCEDES BENZ DENIES THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACING/FIXING THE DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNITS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHERS THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO GET THIS RESOLVED. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE FUEL POOLING INSIDE OF THE CABIN. *TR

FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AND A HALF, WHEN FILLING MY GAS TANK, A STRONG GAS SMELL OCCURS IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR AND IN THE HOUSE GARAGE FOR A FEW DAYS. TO TRY AND AVOID THIS PROBLEM I AVOID FILLING MY CAR COMPLETELY AS THE SMELL DISSIPATES AS GAS IS CONSUMED. ON JULY 19, 2014, I FILLED MY TANK TO THE CLICK AND PROCEEDED HOME, PARKING IN THE GARAGE. MY BEDROOM IS ABOVE THE GARAGE. WHILE SLEEPING FOR A FEW HOURS, I AWOKE WITH A HORRIBLE HEADACHE AND THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN MY ROOM. I WENT TO THE GARAGE AND THE SMELL OF GAS WAS OVERWHELMING. I STATED MY CAR AND MOVED IT OUT OF THE GARAGE TO THE DRIVEWAY FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY REASONS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND WAS INSTRUCTED NOT TO ADD FUEL TO ITS CAPACITY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO SMELL GASOLINE AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. HE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE TANK AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR LOSES POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. NO CHECK ENGINE ALERT COMES ON AND THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON. THE CAR STARTS AGAIN ONCE I PULLED OVER AND STARTED THE IGNITION AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 TIMES IN 18 MONTHS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE LAST TIME I WAS COASTING DOWNHILL AROUND 40 MILES AN HOUR AND, WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED, THE CHECK TIRE PRESSURE ON ALL 4 TIRES CAME ON. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE CHECK TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS DID NOT APPEAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT WARMER BURNED THROUGH THE SEAT AND THE CONTACT'S CLOTHES WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE SEAT WARMERS. A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE SEAT CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED TOXIC LUNG INJURIES DUE TO SMOKE INHALATION, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE FUEL TANK, THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR SMELLS OF GAS TILL THE FUEL COMES DOWN TO ABOUT THREE QUARTER TANK. THE GAS ODOR IS ESPECIALLY PERCEPTIBLE IN THE MORNING WHEN I WALK INTO THE GARAGE. AS A PRECAUTION I STARTED PARKING THE CAR OUTSIDE THE HOUSE FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER I FILL THE TANK. *TR
THE SMELL OF GAS FUMES FROM MY MERCEDES WAS PREVALENT IN MY GARAGE AFTER REFUELING FOR A NUMBER OF WEEKS BEFORE TAKING IT IN TO MERCEDES BENZ OF CHANDLER TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICING ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2012. MERCEDES IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK AND VERIFIED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TANK AND NOT CAUSED BY AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE (ROAD DEBRIS OR SIMILAR). MERCEDES REPLACED THE GAS TANK AT A COST OF $2,759.10 (AFTER DISCOUNTS) AS IT WAS A POTENTIAL HAZARD. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS TANK SINCE. *TR
MOST OF THE ENCLOSED QUESTIONS DO NOT APPLY. THE REASON IS THAT ABOUT A YEAR AGO WE STARTED SMELLING "GAS" FUMES IN OUR GARAGE FROM OUR CAR. MY DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM IS ABOVE THE GARAGE. WE ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK INTO IT AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT SEE A PROBLEM. WE STARTED PARKING OUR CAR IN THE GARAGE AGAIN AND MY DAUGHTER STARTED GETTING SICK SHE SAID FROM THE GAS FUMES. IT IS NOW VERY APPARENT THAT THIS MERCEDES E550 IS LEAKING FUMES FROM THE GAS TANK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BOTH FROM AN EXPLOSIVE COMPONENT AND FROM A DAY TO DAY HEALTH/SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MANY BEDROOMS ARE ABOVE THE GARAGE LIKE WITH MY FAMILY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. A STRONG FUEL ODOR IS PRESENT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AFTER A FULL FILL-UP. THE ODOR DISSIPATES AFTER ABOUT 1/8 OF A TANK OF GASOLINE IS CONSUMED. THESE SYMPTOMS RELIABLY REOCCUR EACH TIME THE FUEL TANK IS COMPLETELY REFILLED. THE ODOR IS NOT PRESENT AS LONG AS THE TANK IS NOT FILLED PAST 7/8 CAPACITY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A MERCEDES-BENZ DEALERSHIP AND NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. CURRENT MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 72,500. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT ORDINARY SPEED ON EVEN INTERSTATE SURFACE (I-64) EAST BOUND THE REAR RIGHT TIRE OF MY MB E350W4 BLEWOUT. I WAS ABLE STABILIZE THE CAR AND EXIT THE HIGHWAY AS I WAS JUST THEN IN FRONT OF A AN EXIT. MY TIRES HAD BEEN RECENTLY INSPECTED DURING A REGULAR SERVICE OF MY CAR. THERE IS NO REASON OR EVENT WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED THE SUDDEN TIRE FAILURE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT THE COMPANY HAS FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEIR PRODUCT MAY HAVE MANUFACTURING ISSUES. NOW I HAVE OBSERVED A BLEMISH DEVELOPING ON THE SIDEWALL OF ANOTHER TIRE. THE DEALER HAS SUGGESTED THAT "WE WATCHED IT" FOR A TIME AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. MY TIRES ARE CONTINENTAL, CONTIPROCONTACT, 245/40 R18 93V, MS RADIAL. REPLACING THE TIRE COST ME SOME $350 SAND COULD HAVE COST ME MY LIFE OR VERY SERIOUS INJURY HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEED OR IR THE FRONT TIRE HAD FAILED RATHER THAN THE REAR. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THESE TIRES POSE AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY. *TR
AT THE BEGINNING IT WAS A SLIGHT SMELL OF GAS UPON FILLING UP. THOUGHT ON OCCASION IT MIGHT HAVE TOPPED OFF TO FULL. SMELL OF GAS DISSIPATED AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS. SMELL HAS NOW GROWN TO THE OBNOXIOUS STAGE AND DOES NOT DISSIPATE UNTIL TANK SHOWS ROUGHLY 3/4 FULL. NOTED THAT MANY OTHER MB OWNERS HAVE REGISTERED THE SAME COMPLAINT. PLEASE ADD MY NAME TO THE LIST. BASED ON OTHERS EXPERIENCE REQUESTING THE DEALER TO DEAL WITH IT WOULD HAVE LITTLE OR NO EFFECT. COLLECTIVELY PERHAPS YOU CAN START SOME ACTION AGAINST THEM TO TAKE ACTION AND FIX THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM. A REPAIR COST IS SUGGESTED TO BE OVER $1,000.00 AND FRANKLY THE CAR CAN NOT BE SOLD WITH THIS EXISTING PROBLEM, THE LIABILITY WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEATED SEAT FAILED AND OVERHEATED. THE SEAT BURNED THE CONTACT THROUGH HIS SHIRT AND BELT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE SMELLED SMOKE AND HAD TO OPEN THE WINDOWS BECAUSE THE SMOKE HAD BECOME OVERPOWERING. HE THEN POWERED THE HEATED SEATS OFF BEFORE IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAD LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE ON FRONT WHEELS. EXAMINATION SHOWED THE ALLOY WHEELS TO BE CRACKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN APPROXIMATELY 90 DAYS. I HAVE NOT HIT ANY POT HOLES. SOME TYPICAL ROAD BUMPS MAYBE BUT NO DEEP HOLES. I'VE HAD MANY VEHICLES SINCE 1958 BUT NEVER HAD WHEELS CRACKING. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN QUITE A BIT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME LOW PROFILE TIRES USED ON THIS VEHICLE ARE ALSO HAVING CRACKED WHEELS AND LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE. BESIDES BEING VERY COSTLY, THIS INDEED CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE CAN RESULT IN ACCIDENTS AND CAN SUBJECT VEHICLE OPERATORS TO DANGEROUS CONDITIONS WHEN CHANGING TIRES. I WROTE TO MERCEDES BUT THEY WILL NOT ADMIT TO THEIR WHEELS HAVING A PROBLEM. IT COULD BE POORLY DESIGNED WHEELS, THE USE OF LOW PROFILE TIRES OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH LEADING TO WHEEL FAILURES. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR WILL INTERMITTENTLY SHIFT INTO LOW GEAR WHILE DIVING. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOOSES POWER WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW THE TRANSMISSION WON'T SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. I'M TOLD BY THE MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER THAT THE TRANSMISSION MUST BE REPLACED AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, $7000! THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR FAILURE. *TR
THE CAR STARTED STALLING IN JERK MOTIONS AND STOPPED. IT HAPPENED COUPLE TIMES AND USUALLY HAPPENS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR TRAFFIC JAM PLACES WHERE SPEED IS BELOW 20K. I WAS AFRAID THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED CARS BEHIND HIT ME. LATER AFTER COMPLETELY STOP OF THE ENGINE, I GOT A ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND WHEN STARTING DRIVING , THE CAR SHOW LOT OF RPM BUT WOULD NOT DISPLACE/MOVE MUCH. THE CAR HAS 45K MILES AND CURRENTLY WITH THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THIS MIGHT BE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND I FEEL THIS MB OF USA & NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE TO GET A RECALL AND SEE IF CUSTOMER'S GET EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR

A STRONG FUEL SMELL WAS NOTICED IN THE PASSENGER CABIN AND OUTSIDE THE CAR AFTER FILLING THE TANK. ON 5/10/11, THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE SENDER UNIT P/N 2114703894 AND SEAL RING P/N 2114710579. ON 9/26/12, THE SAME STRONG FUEL SMELL WAS NOTICED IN THE CABIN (AGAIN). THE DEALER REPLACED THE SAME EXACT TWO PARTS ON THE DRIVER (LEFT) SIDE. THE SENDER UNITS ARE ACCESSED FROM UNDER THE BACK SEAT, WHICH PUTS THE OVERWHELMING FUMES IN THE CABIN. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE W211 MODELS, WHICH IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND RESULT IN A FIRE, EXPLOSION, OR ILLNESS FROM THE FUMES. MY CHILDREN SIT ON THE BACK SEAT THAT COULD BECOME SOAKED WITH FUEL. *TR
