WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND LOSS OF POWER, INFORMS DRIVER TO SAFELY PULL OVER. TO ROAD. TOWED VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD ONLY OPTION WAS TO REPLACE WITH NEW TRANSMISSION AND THAT FORD WOULD NOT ALLOW TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION, ONLY REPLACE WITH NEW. VEHICLE HAS 60K MILES AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. OTHER TRANSMISSION MECHANICS HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT FORD WILL NOT SELL THEM PARTS TO REPAIR THE CVTS AND ONLY A FORD DEALER IS AUTHORIZED AND CAN GET THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CVT AND FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP THIS PROBLEM. A $9,200 REPAIR SHOULD NOT BE BORNE BY THE CONSUMER. I CAN SEE OVER THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS AN ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH OTHER CONSUMERS.

SAFETY RECALL 14S05/NHTSA RECALL 14V-284 WAS PERFORMED ON THIS VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2014. THE SERVICE PERFORMED WAS A SOFTWARE MODIFICATION THAT WAS DESCRIBED AS BEING ABLE TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM GOING INTO MANUAL STEERING MODE WITHOUT WARNING AND AS A RESULT OF A TORQUE SENOR DEFECT. IN JANUARY 2016 THE POWER STEERING ASSIST STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING AND MOVED INTO MANUAL STEERING MODE. THIS WAS IN A LOW TRAFFIC URBAN AREA AT LOW SPEED. WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN MANUAL STEERING MODE AND THERE IS A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WARNING DISPLAY ON THE DASH. THE FORD RECALL LETTER INDICATES THE DEALER REPAIR WOULD REMOVE THIS POSSIBILITY WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD REVERT TO MANUAL STEERING MODE DUE TO A DETECTED FAULT. THE LETTER ALSO INDICATES A CHIME AND WRENCH LIGHT WOULD ENSUE IF A DEFECT/FAULT WERE DETECTED TO "INCREASE DRIVER AWARENESS". IT IS NOT OUR EXPERIENCE THAT WE HAD THIS WARNING PROVIDED. THERE IS NO WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PREVENTED FROM MOVING INTO MANUAL STEERING MODE. IN SHORT, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE SERVICE PROCEDURE IN THIS RECALL WHERE ONLY SOFTWARE CODE WAS MODIFIED WAS SUFFICIENT TO REMOVE THE POTENTIAL HAZARDS OF ANY DEFECTS THAT MAY BY INHERENT IN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SYSTEM OF THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SOFTWARE REVISION WAS CONDUCTED AND WAS TOLD THAT WITHOUT A "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" INDICATION, THEY WOULD PROBABLY NOT BE ABLE TO READ AND DETERMINE THE FAULT. I INDICATED THE NATURE OF MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE TO SEE IF A FURTHER NEEDED REPAIR OF THE TORQUE SENSOR WOULD BE ALLOWED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. I WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE INITIAL REPAIR WAS SUFFICIENT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED AND, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN SEPTEMBER 2015. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I LOOKED UP THE RECALL WHICH STATES: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE SOFTWARE FOR THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM) AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE, FREE OF CHARGE. IF A VEHICLE SHOWS A HISTORY OF A LOSS OF THE TORQUE SENSOR SIGNAL OR FAULT CODES RELATING TO THE PSCM WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR THE RECALL REMEDY, THE AFFECTED COMPONENTS WILL BE REPLACED, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 18, 2014. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-392-3673. FORD'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 14S05. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY. I WAS CHARGED FULL PRICE FOR REPLACE THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SET UP A CASE # WHICH IS CAS86223147. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE PRIOR OWNER BROUGHT THE CAR IN WHEN THEY RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. THEY HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATED BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR. AS A NEW OWNER AND WITH THE RECALL STILL IN EFFECT, I FEEL THE RECALL SHOULD BE HONORED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TORQUE SENSOR.

WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING A 90 DEGREE TURN AT AN INTERSECTION MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING.

EVERYTIME I TRY TO FILL GAS, THE PUMPS KEEP SHUTTING OFF. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW I DO IT OR THE ANGLE. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND AFTER THEY INSPECTED IT AND FOUND NO OBVIOUS ISSUES, THEY LOOKED ONLINE IN THEIR MECHANIC WEBSITE AND SEEN THAT THE FUEL NOZZILS FOR THESE TYPES OF VEHICLES OFTEN NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SHAPE OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IF A PROBLEM IS CAUSED DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN, THEN I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE THE ONE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. IT'S A VERY FRUSTRATING PROBLEM. IT CAN TAKE 5-10 MINUTES TO FILL TANK COMPLETELY AND WHEN IN NEGATIVE TEMPERATURES, THAT'S A LONG TIME TO BE STANDING OUTSIDE.

STEERING TORK SENSOR AND MOTOR IMPROPERLY DETECTS INPUTS, CAUSED LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MARINER HAD BEEN RECALLED IN SUMMER OF 2014, RECALL # 14S05, JUST SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. SOFTWARE UPDATE ONLY DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.. THIS FAILURE IS LIFE THREATING. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A PETITION AND REQUEST A HEARING FOR DETERMINATION FROM NHTSA REGARDING WHETHER FORD ADEQUATELY MET ITS OBLIGATION TO REMEDY RECALL 14S05.

MY PARENTS PURCHASED A 2008 MERCURY MARINER THIS LAST SPRING, AND JUST STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS CUTTING IN AND OUT. WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL GARAGE WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM (ERROR CODE THAT CAME UP WAS B1342-2F) AND RECOMMENDED WE REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. SINCE THAT IS A LARGE EXPENSE ($800) I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY LOOKED UP OUR VIN AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING AND THAT THE WORK FOR THE RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING WAS ALREADY DONE. (FORD'S RECALL NUMBER FOR THIS IS 14S05) MY QUESTION IS SINCE WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE (MEANING THE FIX DIDN'T SEEM TO LAST) IS THERE ANY RECOURSE FOR US TO HAVE FORD FIX THE PROBLEM NOW? WELL I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND THEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND STARTED TO GO THEN MY RPM STARTED TO GO UP AND MY MERCURY MARINER DID NOT WANT TO GO NO MORE SO I COASTED TO THE SLOW LANE I REV MY ENGINE WHILE I WAS STILL DRIVE ABOUT ABOUT 1 MIN IN WENT BACK INTO GEAR SO STARTED TO DRIVE AGAIN THE RPM WENT BACK UP AND THEN I COASTED TO A STOP ON A BUSY HIGHWAY I IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO GET MY FAMILY OUT TO SAFETY SO I WENT BACK TO MY MERCURY MARINER IT WAS IN PARK AND STILL RUNNING AND I NOTICED A YELLOW WRENCH ON THE DASH BOARD SO I PUT IT IN DRIVE IT DID NOT MOVE THEN FOR FIVE MIN TRYING TO GET IT TO MOVE IT WENT INTO GEAR BUT JUST ENOUGH TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY ON TO A BACK STREET SO I TURNED MY MERCURY MARINER OFF SO ABOUT A HALF HOUR WENT BY I STARTED IT UP AND I NOTICE THE YELLOW WRENCH WAS OFF SO THEN IT WENT RIGHT INTO GEAR BUT ABOUT IN ONE MIN IT DID THE SAME THING SO I CALLED A FAMILY MEMBER AND THEN I GOT IT TOWED THERE SO I LET IT SIT FOR AN HOUR THEN I STARTED IT UP AND IT WENT RIGHT INTO GEAR AND ABOUT ONE MIN LATER I HAD NO GEARS BUT I LET IT RUN AND IT WILL GO IN AND OUT OF GEAR SO NOW IT SITS AT MY FAMILY'S HOUSE.
PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNINGLIGHT IN INSTRUNMENT CLUSTER STAYS ON. THE AIRBAG IS CURRENTLY DEACTIVATED. THIS ITEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARANTY. WHY NOT?
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASH INSTRUMENT PANEL STAYS ON, INDICATING THAT AIR BAG IS NOT ACTIVATED,
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED LAST YEAR. MY VEHICLE STARTING HAVING LONG SHIFTS AND WOULD STALL ON ME WHEN AT LOW SPEED. I TOOK IT TO SHOP AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER THAT CAN DEVELOP A CRACK IN THE TUBE AND ULTIMATELY CAUSE YOUR TRANSMISSION TO GO BAD. I WAS TOLD TO CALL FORD FOR THE REPAIR OF THE TUBE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WASN'T FOR MY CAR (VIN SPECIFIC) ALTHOUGH THE RECALL WAS FOR 2008 MERCURY MARINERS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WOULDN'T HONOR MY VEHICLE IF MINE IS A 2008 MARINER AND HAS THE PROBLEM THAT IS IN THE RECALL. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ALTHOUGH I JUST PURCHASED THE AUTO THAT IF IF IT I HAD ANY EXPIRED RECALLS ON IT THAT IT WOULDN'T BE FIXED. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO MANAGER OR SUPERVISOR AND SHE SAID IT WOULDN'T HELP. THIS IS A FORD POLICY AND IT WON'T BE CHANGED.
THE ANTI-LOCK BRICK MODULE HAS STOPPED WORKING. THE PART ALONE IS CLOSE TO $1,200 TO PURCHASE. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM WE FIND THAT IT IS VERY COMMON AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF FORD BUILT CARS OF THIS VINTAGE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL FOR SUCH A COMMON AND CRITICAL ISSUE?

HAVE HAD THE SENSORS REPLACED, TRANNY FLUID FLUSHED AND REPLACED AND GASKET SEAL AND PAN REPLACED. STILL NOT REPAIRED.
I NEVER RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT FOR PUTTING IN A TRANSMISSION. I WAS ALSO NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS ON MY TRANSMISSION.

I TOOK MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER IN FOR SERVICE RECALL 14S05 FOR THE TORQUE SENSOR THAT CAN CAUSE THE POWER STEERING TO REVERT TO MANUAL. WITHIN THE LAST WEEK THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST HAD QUIT AT LEAST 4 TIMES. AT THE SAME TIME, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED OR IDLING. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL ISSUE, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THEY VIBRATION/SHAKING IS DUE TO THE STEERING GEAR THAT IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED ONLY AFTER THE RECALL ISSUE AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IT IS A MERE COINCIDENCE THAT THIS HAPPENED SIMULTANEOUSLY AND IS NOT AS A RESULT OF THE BAD TORQUE SENSOR. FORD STATES THAT THERE IS NO OTHER DOCUMENTED PROBLEMS WITH THIS AND THAT I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIRS FOR THE STEERING GEAR. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE INCLUDING A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LEAK AND DEFECTIVE TONE RINGS IN THE ABS (I'VE REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE ONCE AND THE DRIVER SIDE TWICE IN A SIX MONTH PERIOD WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL REPAIR COSTING ON AVERAGE $350). *TR
I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL #14S05, IN 2014; IT WAS FIXED IN A MATTER OF 2 HOURS. AFTER THAT MY STEERING WAS VERY FLEXIBLE AND VERY LOOSE, WHICH I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO GET USED TO. THEN WITHIN A FEW MONTHS THE STEERING COLUMN STARTED TO TREMBLE WHILE IN PARK OR WITH APPLIED BRAKE. I THOUGHT IT WAS FRONT END ISSUES, WHICH I TOOK TO THE SHOP AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. A MONTH WENT BY AND WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON MARCH 9, 2015 GOING ABOUT 60MPH WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD GREAT NIECE IN THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH TO KEEP IT FROM CRASHING. I NOTICED ON THE DASHBOARD THAT IT READ ?POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT?. IMMEDIATELY I THOUGHT TO MYSELF; I TOOK THIS IN FOR THE RECALL, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING. I MADE IT TO A SAFE PLACE AND CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND EXPLAIN EVERYTHING TO THEM. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULDN'T KNOW IF IT IS RELATED OR NOT UNTIL THEY RUN A DIAGNOSTIC. LATER THAT NEXT DAY THEY CALL AND SAID THAT IT IS NOT RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE THAT WAS REPLACE, WHICH I DISAGREE, AND THEY QUOTED ME A LARGE AMOUNT TO FIX. I TOLD THEM THAT IT IS FORD RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE I FEEL THAT IT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. I COULD HAD DIED AND MY GREAT NIECE AS WELL. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I HAD TO PAY FOR TOW AND DIAGNOSTIC AND THE PROBLEM STILL NOT FIX AND I STILL FEEL STRONGLY THAT ITS FORD RESPONSIBILITY. WHEN A RECALL IS PERFORMED AND THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENED THEN IT'S NO ACCUSE OR DENYING THAT IT IS INDEED A RECALL ISSUE. THIS HAS CAUSE MENTAL STRESS, LOSS OF WAGES, MENTAL STRESS DUE TO AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT AND KEEPING ME AND MY GREAT NIECE OUT OF DANGER. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS AND FIXED, BEFORE SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM TILL I RECEIVED A PAPER BACK IN NOV.2014 FOR A RECALL ON POWER STEERING SO I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT CHECKED OUT THEY UPDATED IT AND EVER SINCE THERE JUST WASN'T SOMETHING RIGHT ABOUT OUR STEERING. AT RED LIGHTS THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE AND JERK BACK AND FORTH WITHOUT ME TOUCHING IT AND THEN TODAY I HEARD 3 CHIMES AND SEEN NOTHING POP UP ON DASH THEN BAM THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE AND I HAD TO USE EVERYTHING I HAD TO STEER IT HOME. *TR
WE BOUGHT OUR 2008 MARINER IN JANUARY 2013 AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT UNTIL NOW. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THE STEERING AND HAD IT FIXED. WE STILL NEVER HAVE HAD ANY PROBLEMS. LAST WEEK, ABOUT FEBRUARY 18TH, 2015, I NOTICED THAT WHILE IN PARK WITH VEHICLE RUNNING, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO VIBRATE/PULSATE WITHOUT ME EVEN TOUCHING IT. SINCE THEN, IT HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE, AND I CAN SOMEWHAT FEEL THIS PULSATION EVEN WHILE DRIVING. IT IS NOT ONLY PULSATING NOW, BUT ALSO MAKING A CLICKING OR CLUNKING NOISE WHEN IT PULSES/VIBRATES. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE RUN ACROSS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND PEOPLE LOSING POWER STEERING BECAUSE OF THIS, AND WHEN THEY HAVE CALLED FORD WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. 3 MONTHS AGO I TOOK MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER INTO FORD FOR THE POWER STEERING RECALL. THEY WERE TO DO ONE OF THREE THINGS: UPDATE THE SOFTWARE FOR THE POWER STEERING, REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR OR REPLACE THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. THEY ONLY UPDATES THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM SOFTWARE. DAY 1 AFTER IT BEING FIXED, I WAS EXPERIENCE AN EXTREMELY SHAKY STEERING WHEEL AND A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" INDICATOR THAT WOULD RANDOMLY SHOW UP NOW AND THEN. FORD SAID THEY COULD LOOK AT IT BUT THAT IT WOULD NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL. FEBRUARY 4, 9:00AM, MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT PULLING INTO WORK. I TOOK MY CAR INTO FORD TODAY AND THEY EXCLAIMED THAT MY POWER STEERING MOTOR AND COLUMN NEED REPLACED BUT AGAIN THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL. I EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEMS WITH MY POWER STEERING PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. AFTER READING SEVERAL (A COUPLE HUNDRED) REVIEWS BY OTHER CUSTOMERS, THEY EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXACT INCIDENTS A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE UPDATE, BUT FORD SAID THEY HAD TO PAY THE FULL $1,200 TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. IT IS SICKENING TO KNOW THAT THIS "UPDATE" IS ACTUALLY CAUSING POWER STEERING TO MALFUNCTION AND PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES IN DANGER. ON TOP OF IT, FORD SAYS ONCE THE UPDATE IS RAN, THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO UNDER THE RECALL, WHEN THEY KNOW FULL WELL KNOW WHAT THE UPDATE IS DOING AND PUTTING MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS. MANUFACTURER'S FAULTY IGNITION LOCK MODULE WEARS OUT PREMATURELY AND VEHICLE OFTEN DOESN'T START. CAUSED CONSISTENT BUT INTERMITTENT PROBLEM FOR LAST 3 YEARS. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2008-2012 MARINERS, FORD ESCAPES AND 2008-2011 FORD FOCUS, WHICH ALL USE THE SAME IGNITION LOCK.
MY TEENAGE SON WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE HIS 2008 MERCURY MARINER WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE WITHOUT WARNING. IT TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH BUT HE MANAGE TO GET TO HIS GRANDPARENTS AND PULLED OVER. HIS DASHBOARD INDICATED IT WAS "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAIL." THE POWER STEERING FAILURE WAS THE #1 TRENDING COMPLAINT ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM IN APRIL, 2014 AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. PRIOR TO CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP, I RESEARCH IT AND FOUND THAT FORD ISSUED SAFETY RECALLS FOR APPROXIMATELY 1.1 MILLION CARS IN NORTH AMERICA. THE FIRST RECALL AFFECTED ESCAPE AND MERCURY FROM 2008-2011. HOWEVER, I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE AND WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED WE WERE INFORMED THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. SAFETY RECALLS SHOULD NOT EXPIRED, ESPECIALLY FOR KNOWN ISSUES LIKE THIS. *TR
ON AUGUST 8TH 2014. AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR AT SUNNYVALE FORD, I TOLD THE ADVISOR ([XXX] ) THAT I HAD AN INCIDENT WHERE THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND REVERTED TO MANUAL MODE. SUNNYVALE FORD THEN ONLY CONDUCTED A RE-PROGRAMMING OF THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21ST 2015 WHILE DRIVING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL THE POWER STEERING WENT INTO MANUAL MODE AGAIN AND FAILED TO WORK (STEERING WHEEL WAS STIFF). SUNNYVALE FORD THEN DIRECTED ME TO THE ADVISOR ([XXX] ) AND THEY ASKED FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TAKEN IN TO THEIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSIS (WITH A FEE OF $150). I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO TALK TO SOMEONE AND GET THEIR HELP ON THE ISSUE, I TALKED TO A REPRESENTATIVE THAT TOLD ME THERE WAS A 12,000 MILE/ 12 MONTH WARRANTY ON THE RECALL REPAIR. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO SUNNYVALE FORD ON FRIDAY MORNING (1/24/15) I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY NEEDED AUTHORIZATION FROM FORD (MANUFACTURER) TO RE OPEN THE RECALL AND REPLACE THE POWER STEERING TORQUE UNDER THE RECALL, BUT WOULD NOT HAVE INFORMATION UNTIL MONDAY JANUARY 26TH. ON MONDAY, JANUARY 26TH I CALLED, I WAS THEN TOLD THAT [XXX] WAS OUT FOR THE DAY AND NO ONE ELSE COULD HELP ME. I CALLED FORD DIRECTLY TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE IN GETTING THIS EXPEDITED, THEY ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY (CONTRADICTING WHAT THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME ON 1/23/14). I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A 24 HOUR CALL BACK TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR. ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 27TH [XXX] CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND NOW THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COLUMN (COSTING ABOUT $1,300). LATER ON TUESDAY I RECEIVED A CALL FROM FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISOR [XXX] TO TELL ME THAT IT WASN'T GOING TO BE COVERED. I ASKED TO TALK TO HIS MANAGER AND HE SAID HE IS THE HIGHEST RANKED SO THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE I COULD TALK TO. WHEN TAKING THIS VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL SERVICE FORD # 14S05 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000), THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST STEERING WAS DONE, BUT WAS TOLD THE STEERING SHAFT AND LOWER U-JOINT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL INDICATES FAILED COMPONENTS WILL BE REPLACED, BUT UPON INQUIRY AT THE DEALER (BRONDES, TOLEDO, OHIO) I WAS TOLD IT ONLY APPLIED TO ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS--NOT MECHANICAL ONES. THE WEAR ON THESE COMPONENTS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE TORQUE SENSING DEVICE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THIS SEEMS TO BE ME TO BE FORD NOT WANTING TO MEET ITS FINANCIAL OBLIGATION TO FIX THIS ENTIRE RECALL. THIS WAS A NEW DESIGN INTRODUCED IN THIS MODEL YEAR AND IT IS ONLY NOW STARTING TO FAIL. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR AND WAS DENIED; AND I CALLED THE FORD HOTLINE AND WAS SIMILARLY DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR, BUT ADVISED TO RETAIN MY RECEIPTS IN CASE THERE WAS FURTHER ACTION ON THIS RECALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V284000 (STEERING) WAS RECEIVED IN MAY 2014. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN AUGUST 2014 AND THE POWER STEERING SOFTWARE UPDATE REMEDY WAS PERFORMED. ON JANUARY 16, 2014 WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND ERRONEOUSLY TURN BEFORE EVENTUALLY MALFUNCTIONING COMPLETELY MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT DUE TO THE PREVIOUS SOFTWARE UPDATES THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY TO REPLACE THE AFFECTED PARTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
