I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE POWER STEERING RECALL THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT I HAVE NO PROOF OF THAT. SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN MY VEHICLE BACK THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN BECAUSE THE TORQUE SENSOR IS BAD WHICH IS PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT FORD WILL NOT COVER THIS UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY ALREADY FIX IT WHICH AGAIN I HAVE MY CONCERNS THAT THEY DID NOT REALLY FIX IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED A POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
IN COLD WEATHER MY GAS PEDAL STICKS. EVEN AFTER I HAVE STARTED MY CAR AND LET RUN FOR 10-15 MINUTES. WHEN I GET IN, REVERSE TO FORWARD POSITION AND TRY TO ACCELERATE- THE GAS PEDAL STICKS. I HAVE TO SLAM ON IT FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES BEFORE IT ACTUALLY WORKS. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AS WELL, NOT JUST THE INITIAL START. IT DEFINITELY HAPPENS MORE IN COLD WEATHER. WHAT CAN I DO? AFTER RESEARCH THIS SOUNDS LIKE IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2008 MERCURY MARINERS. I BELIEVE IT'S DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,810. DJR
STARTED VEHICLE. DASH MESSAGE READ "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE." NO POWER STEERING. AFTER DOING ONLINE RESEARCH (IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG TO FIND SIMILAR TO IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS), I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A STEERING RELATED RECALL PERTAINING TO THE VEHICLE (7/2014). TOOK VEHICLE TO LINCOLN-MERCURY DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL WORK HAD BEEN DONE THE LAST TIME WE HAD OUR OIL CHANGED OVER THE SUMMER, AND THAT THE RECALL HAD BEEN "CLOSED OUT".... WE WEREN'T INFORMED OF EITHER THE FACT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN THE FIRST PLACE, OR THAT THEY HAD "TAKEN CARE" OF IT. THE RECALL WORK WAS APPARENTLY TO "REPROGRAM" SOME "MODULE" TO SIMPLY MAKE THE DRIVER AWARE THAT SOMETHING HAS GONE AWRY WITH THE POWER STEERING (NO KIDDING). THE ULTIMATE DIAGNOSIS: THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW STEERING COLUMN AT A COST OF NEARLY $1,300.00 AS THE "TORQUE SENSOR" HAS FAILED. IT IS APPARENT TO ME AND MANY OTHERS THAT THE RECALL HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH REPAIR OF THE FAILED COMPONENT, WHICH IS NOT SUCH AN "UNLIKELY EVENT"....ALSO, THE FAILURE OF THE COMPONENT IS NOT A MATTER OF IMPROPER MAINTENANCE AS COULD BE THE CASE WITH TYPICAL POWER STEERING SYSTEMS...IT JUST FAILS. THE FAILURE OF THE COMPONENT(S) IS HOWEVER A PRETTY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE I WOULD THINK. I WILL MAKE THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AWARE OF THIS, AND CONTINUE TO FIND OUT WHY THESE REPAIRS SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT ENGAGED HER BRAKES AND WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO FIND A FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
SPRING OF 2014 IS WHEN THE POWER STEERING HAD BEGAN TO GO OUT RANDOMLY AND IT WOULD COME BACK ON ONCE YOU SHUT THE IGNITION OF AND RESTARTED IT. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT BECAUSE THEY WERE WAITING FOR A RECALL TO BE ESTABLISHED BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE SOFTWARE TO FIX IT. JULY OF 2014 A RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED IN THE MAIL. I DIDN'T HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED UNTIL DECEMBER 4TH 2014 AND WHEN THEY HOOKED THE COMPUTER TO THE MARINER THEY WERE ADVISED TO REPROGRAM IT AND THEN THE RECALL WOULD BE COMPLETE. IT WORKED JUST FINE WITH NO PROBLEMS LIKE BEFORE FOR ONLY MONTH. THEN ON JANUARY 2ND WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN THE SNOW AT NIGHT THE POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT. WE TAKE IT BACK IN AND WE FIND OUT THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NOW HAS TO BE REPLACED COSTING US 912.65!! THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY TALKED TO FORD CORPORATION ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD DO BUT THEY RESPONDED THAT SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED IT WAS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY THE BILL BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN WENT OUT ON IT'S OWN (YOU WHO IS READING THIS, I ASSUME, KNOWS THIS IS JUST A LOAD OF CRAP!) NOW ITS NOVEMBER 2015 AND STILL NO NEW NEWS ON HOW THIS INVESTIGATION IS GOING BUT I ENCOURAGE WE GET THE WORD OUT AND HAVE AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE WRITE COMPLAINTS!

MERCURY MARINER RECALL, I PURCHASED A 2008 MERCURY MARINER ON 9/27/14. ON 12/19/14 AT NIGHT WHILE ON HIGHWAY THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR DECREASED SPEED AND I ALMOST GOT HIT BY THE CAR FROM THE REAR, PULLED IN EMERGENCY LINE AND HAD SUV TOWED. REQUIRED A TRANSMISSION ON 12/26/16 FOR $1475. ON 1/14/16 WHILE ON HIGHWAY DURING EXITING ON EXIT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN , HIT THE GUARD RAIL THERE WHERE NOT WARNING LIGHT TO INDICATE THAT THE STEERING HAD A PROBLEM, HAD THE SUV TOWED TO SHOP AND REPAIRED STEERING SHIFT TORQUE SENOR FOR $428.00. ON 1/10/17 AFTER GROCERY SHOPPING THE SUV WOULD NOT START, CALLED CAB TO TAKE ME HOME WITH GROCERIES, RETURNED TO HAVE SUV TOWED TO SHOP REPAIR THE IGNITION STARTER SWITCH FOR $176.00. ON 9/21/17 WHEN LEAVING FOR WORK, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURNED, TOWED TO SHOP AND REQUIRED LOCK CYLINDER HOUSING $434.00. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL THE REPAIRS AND TOWING COST. VIN [XXX], NOT ON RECALL LIST YET AND THESE REPAIRS ARE RELATED TO RECALLS FOR MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER. I AM UPSIDE DOWN STILL OWE $7100. FOR BALANCE. THE CONSUMER LOST POWER STEERING AGAIN, A MONTH LATER. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE MODULES TO PREVENT SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. FIVE DAYS LATER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TORQUE SENSOR. I HAVE A 2008 MERCURY MARINER (VIN # [XXX]) THAT HAD THE POWER STEERING RECALL IN AUGUST 2014, WHERE THE DEALER UPDATED THE SOFTWARE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000). THREE MONTHS LATER (11/3/2014) MY POWER STEERING IS OUT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I AM BEING TOLD SINCE THE RECALL IS CLOSED OUT THAT IT IS NOW MY PROBLEM TO HAVE FIXED, YET UNDER THE RECALL THEY COULD HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN AND POWER STEERING MODULE SOFTWARE. I HAD STOPPED BY MY APARTMENT COMPLEX OFFICE TO PICK UP A PACKAGE. I STARTED THE MOTOR AND BEGAN TO BACK OUT. I THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN. I TRIED TO DRIVE IT SLOWLY TOWARDS MY APARTMENT TO PARK IT. I RESTARTED THE CAR. ONCE I DID THIS, THE STEERING WAS BEHAVING NORMALLY EXCEPT WHEN IDLING THERE WAS A THUNKING VIBRATION TO WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVING. I HAD REMEMBERED I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE WHICH WAS FOR POWER STEERING. THE TECHNICIAN LOOKED UP THE VIN # AND YES IT WAS A RECALL ITEM. I TOOK IT IN YESTERDAY AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY REPLACING THE PART. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT A LOT OF THE VIBRATION I HAVE FELT RECENTLY CAN BE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING UNIT. THANKFULLY I WAS NEAR HOME. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL TRIPS BETWEEN WASHINGTON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. IN ADDITION, I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM IN THE MORNINGS ESPECIALLY IN THE COLDER MONTHS WHERE I AM AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND STEP ON THE GAS, THE MOTOR WILL REV UP BUT I DON'T MOVE, THEN A SUDDEN KICK IN OF THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS SCARY WHEN TRYING TO TURN INTO TRAFFIC. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT WOULD NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE AS PART OF THE RECALL. AFTER NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REMEDY TO SATISFY THE RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED PREVIOUSLY WHEN THE DEALER UPDATED THE SOFTWARE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

AS WE DRIVE WHEN WE GO INTO A RIGHT OR LEFT CURVE IT ACTS LIKE THE FRONT WHEELS LOCK UP FOR JUST A FEW SECONDS. I HAD A RECALL ON IT BACK IN LATE SUMMER I HAD TAKEN IT TO TRI-LAKE FORD IN BRANSON MISSOURI THEY SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. APPROX IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS OF SEPT 2014, POWER STEERING ONCE AGAIN QUIT AND HAS NOT RETURNED. AFTER A FEW MORE FAILED ATTEMPTS, I CALLED FOR A TOW. SINCE THIS OCCURRED AFTER HOURS, NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT DUE TO I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER TRAIN OR I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED TO BRING MY TRUCK IN IMMEDIATELY TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. IN WHICH I WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT ALL. I SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO PAY TO GET MY CAR FIXED ON A DEFECTED PART THAT WAS SOLD WITH MY CAR.(THE POWER TRAIN). *TR
I STARTED LOSING POWER STEERING APPROXIMATELY ONCE A MONTH BUT COULD TURN MY CAR OFF AND IT WOULD RESTORE ITSELF. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL ON JULY 29, 2014, AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT THEN NOVEMBER 8, 2014, IT DID THE SAME THING AS BEFORE AND NOVEMBER 9, 2014, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT DID THE RECALL AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW STEERING COLUMN. OBVIOUSLY THEIR REPROGRAMMING IN THE RECALL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND HAVE SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER PEOPLE. I KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM CUSTOMER RELATIONS WHO TELLS ME THE DEALERSHIP NEEDS TO CALL THE RECALL EXEMPTION DEPARTMENT BUT WHEN I TELL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY ACT LIKE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT AND THAT DUE TO MY VEHICLE HAVING SO MANY MILES THEY CAN'T HELP ME. IT ONLY HAS 5,000 MILES SINCE THE RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP EVEN TOLD ME THEY HAD ANOTHER MARINER DO THE SAME THING RECENTLY. FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THEIR FAULTY STEERING IN THESE VEHICLES BEFORE PEOPLE GET SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO THIS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER TURNS OFF. WHEN THE STEERING TURNS OFF IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE CAR SAFELY. IT DOES NOT REACT LIKE A VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT HAVE POWER STEERING, IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE STEERING THE WHEELS THROUGH CEMENT. YOU NEED TO PUT ALL OF YOUR FORCE AND ENERGY INTO TURNING THE WHEEL EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT AND WHEN THE CAR HITS A BUMP THE CAR WANTS TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I KNOW THAT SHE WILL NOT BE ABLE TURN THE WHEEL IF THIS HAPPENS TO HER. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS ISN'T A SAFETY HAZARD AND HASN'T BEEN RECALLED SOONER. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BECAUSE THE REPAIR FOR THIS IS ALMOST $2,000 DOLLARS. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A POP/CRACKING NOISE ON START-UP AT FIRST. THE WHEEL WOULD OSCILLATE IN PLACE AND ONLY STOP IF I PUT PRESSURE ON IT TO TURN IT OFF CENTER. THE POWER STEERING WOULD INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT ON START-UP. I WOULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN UNTIL IT RETURNED. THIS WAS FINE FOR A WEEK OR SO, BUT THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS, THE CAR IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK BEFORE SEIZING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,800.
