DRIVING AND MY WHEEL SHAKES AND MAKES A HORRIFYING NOISE. IT'S ALMOST SCARY. SCARED MY WHEELS GOING TO SEIZE WHILE I'M DRIVING. TURN THE CAR ON SOMETIMES AND THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED. HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR TO GET IT TO WORK. HAVE READ MULTIPLE OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. $2000 TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NEED A RECALL. *TR
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE AND IT LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,800. RK
THE 2008 MERCURY MARINER STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHILE AT LOW MPH OR STOPPED COMPLETELY. INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED. CONCERN THAT IT WILL LOOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING THOUGH IT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET. HOPE THERE IS ENOUGH AWARENESS THAT FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THIS AND ISSUES A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
DRIVING DOWN ROAD, AT 65 MPH, STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO VIBRATE,AND IS MAKING A CHATTERING NOISE AT BOTTOM OF STEERING COLUMN. STOP VEHICLE, STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES MORE WITH BRAKE ON. NEXT TIME I START VEHICLE, THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. I SHUT OFF VEHICLE, RESTART, THEN THE POWER STEERING WORKS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I TALKED TO SERVICE MANGER AT 2 DEALERS, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. ONE DEALER WAS GOING TO E-MAIL FORD TO FIND OUT, WAITING FOR A REPLY FROM HIM. I LOOK UP, MERCURY MARINER STEERING PROBLEMS ON INTERNET, THERE ARE THOUSAND OF PEOPLE HAVE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS APPARENTLY AN ELECTRONIC STEERING SENSOR, IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT IS BAD. WENT TO FORD DEALER, TALKED TO PARTS PERSON, AND SERVICE MANAGER, THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY FIND A PICTURE OF THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT CAN'T FIND A PART NUMBER, SO CAN'T TELL ME A COST OF THE PART. FRUSTRATED. I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HURT. *TR

GOING DOWN HIGHWAY AND THE STEERING WENT OUT WHICH COULD OF RESULTED IN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT ON A SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITION , CAUSING A ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF UNCONTROLLED STEERING OR HARD TO STEER VEHICLE. DOING 55 MPH. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN MANY PROBLEMS WITH STEERING IN THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, WHEN I HAVE TRIED TO GET THE MODULE OR WHOLE LOWER STEERING FROM A USED AUTO PARTS BUSINESS THEY CLAIM THAT THEY CAN NOT KEEP THEM THAT THERE HAS BEEN A GREAT DEMAND FOR THAT PARTICULAR PART. STILL DRIVING WITH OUT SAFE STEERING, HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE IN THE MATTER UNLESS I PAY OVER 1000.00 TO THE FORD DEALER SHIP TO HAVE IT REPLACED AND I CAN NOT AFFORD TO DO THAT ON DISABILITY AND NEED MY CAR TO GET BACK AND FOURTH TO DOCTORS. OVER THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND AN INCREASINGLY SEVERE "SHAKING" OF OUR STEERING WHEEL WHEN IT IS WORKING. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. THE PART ALONE IS $900, $1,400 WITH LABOR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THIS IS QUITE A COMMON ISSUE FOR '08 ESCAPES AND MARINERS (HTTP://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/FORD/ESCAPE/2008/STEERING/POWER_STEERING_FAILURE.SHTML). IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I CANNOT TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. IT HAS NOT GONE OUT MID-DRIVE FOR US YET, BUT HAVE READ OF THAT HAPPENING TO PEOPLE. FOR US, WHEN WE TURN THE VEHICLE ON, THERE WILL BE NO POWER STEERING AND WE HAVE TO TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN 1-3 TIMES BEFORE THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK. AND THEN THERE IS A SEVERE "SHAKING" WHILE DRIVING. I AM SHOCKED THE DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR THESE VERY POPULAR CARS. WE DRIVE A 3 YEAR OLD AND 5 MONTH OLD IN OUR CAR. WE CANNOT AFFORD THIS TYPE OF REPAIR, BUT CLEARLY CANNOT AFFORD TO DRIVE OUR CHILDREN IN THE CARS VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR

THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR ONCE THE WHEEL RETURNED TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR KIT WAS FAULTY. THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND THE DEFECT WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,786.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 25 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED RAPIDLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED BRIEFLY WITHOUT WARNING. A COUPLE DAYS AGO I STARTED MY CAR AS USUAL BEFORE GOING TO WORK TO LET IT WARM DUE TO THE WEATHER. AS I STARTED BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE I REALIZED MY STEERING WHEEL ISN'T MOVING LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. I STOPPED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON, THEN IT WAS FINE. AS I'M DRIVING AND GETTING READY TO SWITCH LANES ON THE HIGHWAY IT DOES IT AGAIN SO I PULL ON THE SHOULDER AND GET OUT THE CAR TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD, A MAN PULLS OVER TO HELP ME SEEING AS I'M A WOMAN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IN MY MILITARY UNIFORM. HE SAYS IT COULD BE BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER BUT IT SHOULD BE FINE. NOW AFTER 2 OR 3 DAYS THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND VIBRATES AND A RATTLING NOISE OCCURS AT LOW SPEED AND CERTAIN POSITIONS WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED, OR EVEN AT A STANDSTILL POSITION. IT HAS RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE FIRST TIME AND ALWAYS WHEN THE CAR STARTS. IT CAN BE STOPPED BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING THE CAR. ALSO A WRENCH SHOWS UP IN THE MESSAGE CENTER, AS I READ MY MANUAL COME TO FIND OUT THAT'S FOR THE TRANSMISSION. I'VE READ A LOT OF THE COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS AND HAVE TO WONDER, WILL IT TAKE A DEATH BECAUSE OF THIS FOR FORD TO REALIZE WE'RE NOT MAKING THIS UP AND IT'S NOT DUE TO POOR OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE. *TR
TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER TO HAVE CAR INSPECTED WAS TOLD ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WEAR BRAKE PADS WERE WEARING UN EVENLY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED BY DEALER WHEN EVER IT NEEDED INSPECTION OR OIL CHANGES UNEVEN WEAR WASN'T SEEN UNTIL WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT THE CAR HAD LEST THEN 2000 MILES ON SINCE LAST INSPECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES IN PAST PINS THAT BRAKE PADS RIDE ON HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE CAUSE. THEY ARE CORRODED. *TR
I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION TO TURN AROUND. WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO GO, MY GAS PEDAL WOULDN'T BUDGE IT WAS LIKE IT WAS STUCK. WHEN I PULLED ON THE HIGHWAY IT DONE IT AGAIN BUT IT TOOK LONGER TO GET MY GAS PEDAL TO PRESS DOWN. WHEN I COME TO STOP NOW I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BREAK AND THE GAS PEDAL TO INSURE THAT IT WILL GO WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED BY LOCKING UP WHEN STARTED. THEN IT STARTED SHAKING WHENEVER IT WAS IN PARK OR BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THEN JUST STARTED TO SHAKE WHENEVER THE CAR WAS ON. AFTER A FEW DAYS OF THIS THE WHEEL WOULD START LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING OCCASIONALLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER, MY STEERING WENT OUT ON A CURVE ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WHICH CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. I COULD NOT MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL WHICH CAUSED ME TO ALMOST DRIVE INTO THE CAR BESIDE ME. I PULLED OVER TO GET GAS & WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE STEERING WAS FINE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST AT LEAST $545 FOR JUST THE SENSOR BUT THAT THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED REPLACING SO IT WOULD BE A LOT MORE THAN THAT TO FIX. I WAS UNABLE TO AFFORD A REPAIR, I SIMPLY STAYED ON MY GUARD & WOULD JUST PULL OVER & RE-START THE CAR SO THAT I COULD DRIVE AGAIN SAFELY. THEN I GOT NOTICE OF A RECALL SO I TOOK IT IN & TOLD THEM THAT I HAD ISSUES WITH THE STEERING & WAS VERY GLAD THAT THERE WAS FINALLY A RECALL. THEN 2 MOS LATER, THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN & THIS TIME IT IS WORSE THAN BEFORE. I CAN NO LONGER TURN THE CAR OFF & RE-START IT TO GET STEERING, IT IS SIMPLY GONE OUT COMPLETELY & IT HARDER TO TURN THAN EVER. THE STEERING WHEEL ACTUALLY TRIES TO TURN THE OPPOSITE WAY THAT THE DIRECTION THAT I AM TURNING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP & THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS HAPPENED TO ANOTHER PERSON & FORD WOULD NOT COVER IT AND TOLD ME THAT ALL THEY DID WAS RE-PROGRAM THE CAR. AFTER RESEARCHING THE RECALL, I FOUND THAT IF THE CAR SHOWS HISTORY OF A LOSS OF THE TORQUE SENSOR, THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS TO BE REPLACED. I THEN CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE & THE LADY THERE WAS VERY COLD & SIMPLY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO SINCE IT WAS ALREADY FIXED ONCE. I TOLD HER THAT IT WAS NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY BECAUSE OF PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH IT, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. SHE TOLD ME TO TAKE IT UP WITH THE DEALER THAT I TOOK IT TO. I NOW HAVE NECK PROBLEMS DUE TO DRIVING MY UNSAFE CAR THAT I HAVE NO MONEY TO REPAIR & AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE & I STILL NEED TO GET TO WORK & GET MY SON TO SCHOOL SO I AM LEFT WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT. *TR
WHEN STARTING UP THE CAR, I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT EFFORT. FELT LIKE THE WHEELS WERE FROZEN TO THE GROUND. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, IT LET GO AND STEERED AS USUAL. NOW THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND VIBRATES AND A RATTLING NOISE OCCURS AT LOW SPEED AND CERTAIN POSITIONS WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED. IT HAS RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE FIRST TIME AND ALWAYS WHEN THE CAR STARTS. IT CAN BE STOPPED BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING THE CAR. *TR
MY CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED. I DO EVERYTHING TO KEEP IT RUNNING WELL AND NOW THE POWER STEERING ONLY WORKS HALF THE TIME. IT IS NOW ALSO MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN AND THE WHEEL WILL SHAKE ON ITS OWN WHILE IN PARK. I HAVE READ LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM ON MANY I THESE VEHICLES AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! $1300 IS A TON OF MONEY TO PAY TO HAVE A "SENSOR" PROBABLY THE SIZE OF A FUSE REPLACED! AND IT'S VERY SCARY WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE YOUR DOING 70 DOWN THE HIGHWAY! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED DUE TO DEFECTIVE BALL BEARINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
TRUCK SHOWS"WRENCH" LIGHT SOMETIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS; TRUCKS DRIVES AS IF IT IS IN THE WRONG GEAR OR AS IF YOU ARE TRYING TO DRIVE WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME. VEHICLE IS AN AUTOMATIC BUT IS DRIVING LIKE A STICK-SHIFT THAT NEEDS TO GO INTO THE NEXT GEAR BUT STRUGGLING & UNABLE TO DO SO. *TR
I DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. IT WAS LIKE HAVING 4 FLAT TIRES AT ONCE. NO WARNING SIGNALS FROM THE DASHBOARD. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING LATER I COULD STEER IT HOME. ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY THE 25TH OF NOVEMBER, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC I KNOW AND HE DECODED A POWER STEERING SENSOR MALFUNCTION. THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE DISMANTLED TO PUT IN THE NEW ELECTRIC POWER STEERING PUMP. WHAT HAPPENS IF THESE UNITS GO OUT WHEN YOU ARE DOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE? MY COST WAS $1262.43 I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
DECEMBER, 2013, I WAS EXITING PARKING LOT ONTO A MAIN STREET THAT HAD 2 LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HALFWAY INTO THE STREET, LOST POWER STEERING BUT WAS ABLE TO DRIFT TO SIDE OF ROAD. JANUARY, 2014 CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 25 MILES PER HOUR, LOST POWER STEERING. FORTUNATELY I WAS NEAR THE GARAGE THAT DOES MY REPAIRS, OIL CHANGES, ETC.. MARCH, 2014, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, NO POWER STEERING, HAD TO WAIT ABOUT A HALF HOUR UNTIL POWER STEERING RETURNED...KEPT TURNING CAR OFF AND ON EVERY 10 MINUTES. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE 3 TIMES BY EMAIL (JAN-MAR). MY LAST 3 CARS HAVE BEEN FORD PRODUCTS BUT APPARENTLY BRAND LOYALTY IS NOT VALUED. REPLIES WERE--SORRY YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES-NO FOLLOW UP FROM FORD EVEN WHEN HEY KNEW THEY WERE ISSUING A POWER STEERING RECALL AS OF APRIL-MAY, 2014. I PAID $2,500 IN REPAIRS FROM DEC'13-MAR'14. *TR
VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING SHIFTING ISSUES. FIRST GEAR FAILED TO CATCH WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FOUND FLUID WAS LOW. ADDED FLUID. PROBLEM RETURNED 1 TO 2 WEEKS LATER. CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FOUND THAT FLUID WAS LOW AGAIN. ADDED FLUID. I LOOKED AROUND UNDER THE HOOD AND OBSERVED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING AT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT. FLUID APPEARS TO BE LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION COOLER. AFTER RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE COMMON WITH THIS MODEL YEAR. THIS ISSUE, LEFT UNFIXED, WILL SURELY CAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND/OR A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE SAFELY MERGE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE WHERE IT WAS RESTARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FUNCTIONED WITH DIFFICULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. BETWEEN ABRUPTLY FORCING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND TRYING TO FORCE THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT, I MANAGED TO GO ACROSS THE STREET AND INTO A FARMERS FIELD ( GOOD THING I BOUGHT IT WITH AWD). WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE STEERING WORKED FINE. AFTER READING SIMILAR SCENARIOS ON THE INTERNET. I THEN LATER CONTACTED FORD CARE AND THE WONDERFUL PERSONNEL TRIED TO TELL ME THAT IT IS NOT A CONCERN OF FORD SINCE IT NOT AN ISSUE FOR FORD AT THIS TIME. FAILURE OF STEERING SEEMS TO BE MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN TO ANYONE WHO DRIVES A VEHICLE IN MY OPINION. THE WORST PART OF THIS ISSUE IS I DEAL DIRECTLY WITH AN AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLIER OF STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLIES TO FORD AND OTHER MANUFACTURERS IN INDIANA. THE THROTTLE/GAS PEDAL IN MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER KEPT STICKING AND EVENTUALLY BREAKING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY INSPECTED THE CABLE UNHOOKED FROM THE PEDAL WHEN THE TECHNICIAN HOOKED THE CABLE THROTTLE TO THE PEDAL IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN PRESSING DOWN ON THE PEDAL, THE THROTTLE PLATE STUCK. THE TECHNICIAN REMOVED AND REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MY ISSUE IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT WAS A FORD ESCAPE RECALL BACK IN JULY 2012. A MARYLAND STATE TROOPER (WHO SAW THE CAR) AND THE MECHANIC AT THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BOTH SAID THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. BOTH SAID IF THE AIRBAGS HAD WORKED, THE DRIVER WOULD NOT BE AS SEVERELY INJURED. *JB

I WAS PULLING INTO MY WORK PARKING LOT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY STOPPED ENGAGING. I HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE INTO A SPACE. MECHANIC CONFIRMS I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS VEHICLE, I CALLED MERCURY/FORD AND HAD TO REFERENCE THE CASE # MYSELF FOR THEM TO FIND IT. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED THAT MY VEHICLE MET THE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM (CSP: 09B10) - ALL THE WAY DOWN TO A SPECIFIC MANUFACTURING PLANT UP TO A SPECIFIC MONTH AND DATE BUT BECAUSE THEY STOPPED HONORING THOSE IN 2011 I AM NOT ELIGIBLE. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND HAD NO WAY TO KNOW THIS WAS A HAZARD, NOT WAS THE DEALER AWARE AS FORD/MERCURY HAD APPARENTLY REMOVED THE CSP NUMBER FROM THE FILES ONCE IT EXPIRED. THE SENSOR IS NOT SERVICABLE AND THE WHOLE COLUMN WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. BOTH FAILURES HAPPEN WITHIN 4 DAYS! UPON TALKING TO THE SERVICE WRITER, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES THAT RUN THRU THE A/C CONDENSER. THEY CALLED ME TODAY AND INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS DONE AND TOLD ME IT WAS $5364.56. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANS COOLER LINES WOULD NOT BE COVERED DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE! HOW CAN A FACTORY RECALL NOT BE COVERED? I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM THE SAME FORD DEALER USED AND THE RECALL WAS ISSUED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR! I OWN A 2008 MERCURY MARINER AND I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED WITH ITS SAFETY. ON 03/15/13 I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. AND LEFT TO RUN AN ERRAND FOR WORK AND THE NEXT THING I KNOW, I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITH OUT WARNING I LOST ALL POWER IN THE DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD GRINDING AND THEN CLUNK. I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT! I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON MY HAZARDS TO TRY AND GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD CAUSE I WAS SLOWING DOWN EXTREMELY FAST. THIS ONE LASTED TILL JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT ON THE PART , THEN IT STARTED STICKING AGAIN. IT APPEARS TO STICK MORE IN COLD WEATHER . STEERING WHEEL SHUTTERS FROM SIDE TO SIDE AT A COMPLETE STOP AND UPON STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO SERVICE GARAGES (ONE FORD, ONE INDEPENDENT) AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING UNIT. VEHICLE ALSO HAD INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING. WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE AT MY RESIDENCE THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK. HOWEVER, AFTER TAKING IT TO THE FIRST SERVICE GARAGE FOR DIAGNOSIS THE POWER STEERING WAS OPERABLE AGAIN. SINCE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING UNIT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT EXHIBITED ANY FURTHER SYMPTOMS OR ISSUES. *TR

TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE REQUIRED SHIFTING TO PARK, POWERING THE VEHICLE DOWN, AND RESTARTING THE PROCESS. -THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS ISSUE WASN'T SERVICABLE BY THEM AND WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND ELECTRIC ACTUATOR "PUMP" MECHANISM. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST BACK INTO PARKING LOT. PROBLEM WAS SUBSEQUENTLY DIAGNOSED AS BAD BINDING THROTTLE CABLE. THE CABLE WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. FEBRUARY 24 AND 25 OF 2014, VEHICLE STALLED WHILE IN TRAFFIC, LOST POWER AND AGAIN PEDAL STUCK AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT ENGAGE. SUBSEQUENT DIAGNOSIS IS REPLACEMENT OF THROTTLE BODY AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS.
VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX. 65 MPH, IMMEDIATELY LOSING ALL POWER. MESSAGE ON DASH READ "STOP SAFELY NOW". THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH AND IT HAS OCCURED 8 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR. FORD HAS REPAIRED THE CAR FOR THIS 3 TIMES (IN 2009, 2010, 2013), THE FIRST 2 IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THIS LAST ONE THE REPAIR COST WAS $350. WHAT IS TERRIFYING ABOUT THIS SITUATION IS THAT IT OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING AND YOU HAVE ABOUT 10 SECONDS TO REACT, I'VE BEEN VERY CLOSE TO GETTING REAR ENDED A COUPLE OF TIMES. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE EVERY TIME, BUT WHAT SURPRISES ME IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS SITUATION IS SO SERIOUS, I DID NOT FIND OUT UNTIL NOW IT'S SO COMMON. I WILL BE SHOPPING FOR A NEW CAR SOON, I HAD ENOUGH. I KEPT THE CAR THIS LONG BECAUSE OTHER THAN THIS ISSUE, I REALLY LOVE DRIVING IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL STARTED SHAKING AS THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAILED AND WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
