THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT A STOPLIGHT. THE LIGHT HAD TURNED GREEN, AND THE VEHICLE WAS BREAKING TO STOP BEHIND THE FIRST VEHICLE. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO FOLLOW THE FIRST VEHICLE AND THE CAR STALLED. THE CAR COULD NOT BE TURNED BACK ON OR PUT IN MOTION. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THE CAR WAS PUSHED OFF THE ROAD BY 3 PEOPLE AND INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE PROBLEM THAT MADE THE VEHICLE UNSAFE WAS A DEFECTIVE FORD THROTTLE BODY. THE REFERENCE CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE JUNE 2014, BUT FORD ONLY SUGGESTED A RECALIBRATION (NOT REPLACEMENT). THE RECALIBRATION WAS COMPLETED AT FORD AUTONATION ON JUNE 23, 2014. FORD HAD ESTIMATED A THROTTLE BODY REDUCTION IN MOVABILITY AND NOT FAILURE. THE MILEAGE OF THIS MERCURY MARINER ON THE DATE OF REPAIR WAS 142551 AND THE IN-SERVICE DATE, 06/18/2010. THEREFORE, THE REIMBURSEMENT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER FORD'S EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 150000 MILES/10 YEARS. THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED 06/08/2020. TEN DAYS PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. FORD CLAIMS THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THIS WAS WELL-DOCUMENTED IN THE PREVIOUS CLAIM 13N03 AND THIS CASE SHOULD BE REOPENED, BASED ON THE FATALITY POSSIBILITY OF A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE WITH THE ORIGINAL PART THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS ALSO RE-CALIBRATED PER FORD'S RECALL IN 2014. THIS INCIDENT PROVES THAT FORD'S RE-CALIBRATION DID NOT PREVENT FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY. ASKING FOR A RECALL FOR THE THROTTLE BODY FOR THE SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS STILL IN CIRCULATION AS IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD AND ALSO REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS SERVICE FOR VEHICLES THAT HAD IT COMPLETED. *TR
HAVING TWO ISSUES. THE FIRST ONE IS THE CHECK FUEL INTAKE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. THIS APPEARS TO BE CAUSING MY CAR TO CUT OUT DANGEROUSLY AT INTERSECTIONS AS WELL AS THE WRENCH LIGHT TO COME IN AND MY CAR 'LIMPS' HOME.
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WE HAVE STALLING ISSUES. THE ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE ROAD WHILE MAKING TURNS AND STOPPED WAITING FOR A LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STOPS RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR WILL RESTART AFTER YOU HAVE PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY SUDDENLY IT LOOSES POWER AND THROTTLES BEFORE TURNING OFF. IT IS A HAZARD BECAUSE I MAY BE HIT IF IT HAPPENS IN THE FREEWAY.
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED FROM A LINCOLN MERCURY DEALER IN EARLY JULY, 2014. MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,500 MILES. AT THE TIME THE AIR CONDITIONING WORKED FINE. EARLY IN AUGUST WE NOTICED THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NO LONGER COOLING THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL --- 14S05 -- RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE. AS A SIDE ISSUE I ASKED THAT THE A/C BE CHECKED. TO MY HORRIFIED SURPRISE I WAS TOLD A "DESICCANT BAG" IN THE A/C ACCUMULATOR HAD BURST AND THE TINY DESICCANT PARTICLES HAD SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM, CLOGGING UP VARIOUS PARTS AND CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO FAIL. THESE PARTICLES CANNOT BE FLUSHED OUT COMPLETELY AND THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE ALL OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE A/C, FOR $2700!!!!! BECAUSE OF THE COST I HAVE NOT HAD THE WORK DONE. THE DEALER PEOPLE ADVISED ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA AND TO CONTACT FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS. I HAVE DONE THAT, BUT NO RELIEF HAS BEEN OFFERED. I WANT TO REGISTER MY OUTRAGE AT THIS SITUATION PARTICULARLY AS A BASIC GOOGLE SEARCH:" FORD ESCAPE/MERCURY MARINER AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS OR DESICCANT BAG" REVEALS MANY HUNDREDS, PROBABLY THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS (REPAIR COSTS UP TO $4000!) AND SHOW THAT FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF YEARS BUT HAS TAKEN NO ACTION. I URGE YOU TO HAVE FORD RECALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES AND REPAIR THEM AT FORD'S EXPENSE. WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE WENT DEAD LIKE THE SWITCH WAS CUT OFF. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD TRY TO START THEN GO DEAD. I DID THIS 10 TIMES AND IT FINALLY STARTED. I TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. A COMPUTER CHECK DID NOT SHOW ANY PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO WORK ON AND SAID TO RETURN IT WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN.
VEHICLE LOOSING POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, U WILL HAVE TO SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND RE CRANK IT. *JS
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY LOOSE POWER FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND LIMP TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A LIGHT WOULD COME ON THAT LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED I WAS ABLE TO MOVE ON NORMALLY UNTIL THE NEXT EPISODE WHICH BEGAN TO COME MORE FREQUENTLY. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO MY FORD DEALER AND SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN SERVICE WHO TOLD ME THEY COULD HOOK THE CAR UP TO THE COMPUTER BUT SINCE THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT IT WOULD MOST LIKELY SHOW NOTHING AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $100 FOR THIS SERVICE. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH A $100 DEDUCTIBLE THAT WAS GOING TO RUN OUT IN 400 MILES. I HAVE THE VEHICLE IN RIGHT NOW AND THEY JUST CALLED AND TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WILL COST ME OVER $500.
I WAS ON A MAJOR EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTING DECREASING SPEED. I WENT FROM 55 MPH TO 45 TO 35 TO 25 TO 15 TO 5 AND THE STOPPED. LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND WHEN THIS STARTED, I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WHICH WAS CLOSE TO AN EXIT. I SOMEHOW GOT THE SUV HOME, STARTING THE ENGINE, IT DYING OUT AND GOING A COUPLE OF FEET OVER AND OVER AGAIN. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR AUTO SHIP AND THEY SAID THAT FORD HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE AND GAVE US A NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMERS COUNCIL ARTICLE. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE DIGITAL EQUIPMENT TO FIX AND REFERRED US TO FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD DEALERSHIP ADVISED IT WAS THE THROTTLE. I TALKED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.I WE SPENT $362.56 ON THROTTLE AND TWO LETTERS LATER FORD WILL DO NOTHING SINCE THEY SAY WE DO NOT HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WE ARE BEYOND THREE YEARS/36,000 MILES. I WAS AFRAID WHEN THE CAR DIED OUT ON THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY UNTIL THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED WHEN THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL INTERSTAE (271S) MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED AND DROPPED FROM 60 MPH TO 10MPH THEN TO A CRAWL. LUCKIY I MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER ( I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE WITH LIMITED TRAFFIC) THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND JUMP. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS POSSIBLE FATAL ACCIDENT IF I HAD BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. NO WARNING WAS PROVIDED. IT HAPPENED, THE WRENCH SYMBOL POPPED UP AS IT WAS HAPPENING AND THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. I TRAVEL DAILY ON THE HIGHWAY TO/FROM WORK. THE TRAFFIC IS VERY HEAVY. LUCKILY, I WAS ON THE ROAD ON TH WEEKEND DURING A FAIRLY LOW POPULATED TIME FRAME. I CALLED MERCURY AND AND RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE . I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND RECEIVED NO SATISFACTION THERE ALSO. THIS IS A SERIOUS INCIDENT AND HAS HAPENED TO MANY ( I CAN PROVIDE WEBSITE WITH TESTIMONIALS.) SINCE THIS NOT A POWERTRAIN ISSUE AND IT WAS PAST THE 3/35,000 COVERAGE, IM STUCK WITH THE EXPENSE $360.00. WEAR AND TEAR IS ONE THING BUT TO SEE A FLAW LIKE THIS OCCUR FOR MANY AND NOTHING IS DONE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. *TR
HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE DEALER LOOK INTO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION AND GEARS SLIPPING BACK IN 2012. THEY INDICATED THERE WAS A BULLETIN, WHICH I BELIEVE WAS ON A COMPUTER ISSUE, AND THAT THE TECH MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS. THAT SEEMED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE FOR A WHILE. IT HAD BEEN ACTING UP AGAIN, AND NOT QUITE THE SAME AS PREVIOUSLY, WITH MORE STALLING OUT AND NOT ACCELERATING AND THEN SUDDENLY JUMPING A LITTLE. ASKED DEALER TO LOOK INTO SITUATION AGAIN ON VISIT ON MAY 30TH. TECHS FOUND NOTHING WRONG. WAS DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE ON EVENING OF JUNE 7TH WHEN IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE HAD LOST POWER. I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, BUT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO A WIDE SHOULDER AREA. THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED OFF CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT ABOUT 45-50 MPH UNTIL OFF INTERSTATE AND GOT IT TO DEALERSHIP WITH NO ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS AND LEFT IT. WAITING TO HEAR OUTCOME FROM THEM. *TR
SLOWED TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF AN IMPENDING STALL AND NO CONSOLE LIGHTS CAME ON OTHER THAN THE BATTERY LIGHT AND THE OIL LIGHT. THE INCIDENT DID NOT CREATE AN ERROR CODE IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AS I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND TO CHECK FOR ANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. FORD REPAIR SHOP FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE UPON INSPECTION AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO WITHOUT AN ERROR CODE IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. A STALLING INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN ON 3/18/14. IN THIS INSTANCE, AGAIN THERE WAS NO WARNING. I HAD JUST EXITED OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. AGAIN, ONLY THE BATTERY LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. *TR

AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR A CHECK. WHILE WAITING FOR A CALL BACK FROM THE DEALER THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND SEEM TO RUN NORMALLY AGAIN. AFTER TALKING TO THE SERVICE MGR., IT WAS LEARNED THAT THE PROBLEM MOST LIKELY WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY. AT THIS TIME IT WAS DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL SHOP THAT WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH FOR PAST SERVICE FOR OTHER VEHICLES WITHIN OUR FAMILY. THE LOCAL SHOP ORDERED AND INSTALLED A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND THE VEHICLE HAS PERFORMED NORMALLY. *TR
ENGINE LOST POWER. RPM DROPPED TO APPROX 1000 AND THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ENGINE WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH. PULLED OFF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. SHUT OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. NEXT DAY DEALER STATES THAT NO FAULTS WERE REGISTERED, SUSPECTS THROTTLE BODY DEFECT. CONCERNED THAT I MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY TO BE IN LIGHT TRAFFIC NEXT TIME RESULTING IN ACCIDENT. *TR

SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SOON AFTERWARD. AT TIMES I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND AT TIMES SLOWER--THE LAST TIME BEFORE SERVICE WAS APPROX. 40 MPH. HAD TO PULL OVER SEVERAL TIMES TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, STOP THE ENGINE, THEN RESTART AND TRY TO CONTINUE DRIVING. AFTER SEVERAL MORE LOSSES OF COMPRESSION AND POWER, RETURNED HOME AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS, BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AFTERWARD, AND WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON, RETURNED FOR SERVICE ON 4/02/12, WHERE THE DIAGNOSTICS CONFIRMED A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS REPLACED AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. I HAD TO SPEND THE FOLLOWING AMOUNTS FOR SERVICE: DIAGNOSTICS ON 3/30/12: $59. ACTUAL REPAIR ON 4/02/12: $450.61. *TR
