My car has had an exterior lighting problem related to a bad FRM. This is causing my lights not to work. After seeking help, I saw that there was an actual recall on the FRM and I decided to take my car to International Mini dealership in Wisconsin. Once there, they proceeded to only fix the leak on sunroof. I then went back and explained that the leak had caused actual damage to the FRM and connectors and they told me to leave the car for another night. Next day I went to pick it up and they gave me the paperwork stating that they had replaced and reprogrammed the FRM but the problem persist. The connector on the FRM are also water corroded and they just refuse to do anything else to the car. I can’t drive my car due to the safety hazard of not having any exterior lights working.

The passenger occupancy seat sensor is defective (as reported by many other owners of this vehicle model). The sensor is very costly to replace in terms of parts ($1,500) and labor ($1,500) and MINI does not sell the sensor separately as it is embedded in the seat foam. The defective sensor does not recognize a passenger sitting in the passenger seat and deactivates the passenger airbag which is an essential, lifesaving device fitted to a small vehicle. When involved in a major vehicle collision, without a working airbag, the risk of fatality drastically increases. The sensor is also responsible for NOT deploying the airbag if a passenger under 100lbs is sitting in the seat ie. a child. Again, this is a massive safety concern especially due to other owners resorting to a cheap aftermarket bypass module which will always deploy the airbag. This solution could seriously injure or cause fatalities for passengers under 100lbs. Other MINI models with the same electronic occupancy sensor problems have had recalls issued by the NHTSA and has not issued recalls for vehicles with the same issue consistently. It is the NHTSA's responsibility to hold the manufacturer accountable for ALL vehicle models with similar defects impacting the safe and consistent operation of life preservation devices such as airbags especially when repair costs for these defective devices are cost prohibitive for vehicle owners to replace.

This has a major recall and won’t pass inspection. Engine light is on . I’ve called dealership and was told parts are on back order . Last year I was told the same thing before I received a letter in the mail.

The car horn was going off randomly. I inspected the interior electrical panel on the passenger side of the car and it was damp. There is water getting into the passenger side of the car and infiltrating the panel causing this one issue and likely others. There is a recall for this problems in some places, but my vehicle is not included, currently.

The problem was that the gas pedal began to stick. Suddenly it began to idle at 4000 rpm. I had to reach down and pull up the gas pedal while driving. I had it replaced a few weeks ago. Then I received a letter from Mini about a footwell control module. It sounds like a similar corrosion problem and it needs to be fixed as well. I had it looked at several times before it was fixed properly because a dirty throttle body can cause it to idle too fast

Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor fails There's a warning light for passenger airbag off , and also the airbag light on the dash panel never goes away ,even when a passenger is sitting on it. Is a common thing on minis , the dealer charges $100 to reset it within obd tool

My car started acting up when it rains and all the electrical goes crazy, all the lights turning on and off and all the locks opening and closing and it seems to have short-circuit and drained my battery, car left me stranded twice in the middle of the street. No electrical wire seems to be exposed and was informed it might be a footwell module issue, I see there is a recall happening yet my vehicle doesn't seem to be included eventhough it fits the specs and the has the same issues.

See attached document for complaint.

The contact owns a 2009 Mini Cooper. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the passenger occupant sensor light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the mat switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised by the dealer that there was a recall for the mat switch however, neither the VIN nor the vehicle was included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

The high pressure fuel pump failed. There was a class action settlement and a warranty extension campaign for this part. Mini refused to warranty my vehicles h/p fuel pump stating it was only covered for 10 years or 120,000 miles. My vehicle only has 71,312 miles. I was informed by a local news source that manufacturers are required to honor the recall for 15 years per NHTSA, and that I should file a complaint. Please help. Thank you very much.

MINI was totally destroyed by fire after driving for 15 minutes. It was parked in a parking lot and was in flames 5 minutes after my wife entered the store. This is comparable with problem requiring recall (with no remedy). No warnings

The contact owns a 2009 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that several electrical features had failed to operate as needed with several warning lights flickering on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that water and salt had entered the footwell circuit causing wiring corrosion. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V337000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. When it rains, my car seems to have a short circuit and all the electrical components start going crazy, mainly the windows, locks and indoor lights/dash. There is an active recall for the same problem and car model but mine doesn't seem to fit the recall I am not sure why.

The contact owns a 2009 Mini Cooper Hardtop. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V337000 (Electrical System) however, the remedy to do the recall repair was not yet available. HELLO, YESTERDAY AFTERNOON I STARTED MY 2009 MINI COOPER AND NOTED THAT MY GAUGES SUDDENLY FAILED. THE TACH DROPPED TO ZERO. SUDDENLY I RECEIVED A TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT. I DECIDED I WOULD MOVE THE CAR TO A MORE FAVORABLE LOCATION TO LOOK UNDER THE HOOD. AS I PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE I NOTED THAT MY POWER STEERING HAD FAILED. I STOPPED THE CAR IMMEDIATELY AND POPPED THE HOOD. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE SMELL OF BURNING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. I RAN DOWN TO THE BASEMENT TO GRAB A WRENCH TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. WHEN I RETURNED I COULD HEAR POPS AND CRACKS AND NOTED CHAR ON THE HOOD INTERIOR. THOUGH THE KEYS WERE OUT I CONTINUED TO HEAR POPS AND CRACKS AND FELT HEAT ACCUMULATING . I FINALLY GOT THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED AND THE POPPING STOPPED. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT THE WIRING NEAR THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS COMPLETELY BURNT OUT. THE CAR DROVE FINE THE DAY PRIOR. MY WIFE IS 38 WEEKS PREGNANT AND I AM SHAKEN BY THE IDEA THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING THE DAY BEFORE.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AC NOT WORKING WATER PUMP

MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY, EVEN IF SOMEONE IS SITTING THERE

ADVISED FROM MECHANIC THAT WATER IS GETTING DOWN FROM THE FRONT AREA BELOW THE WINDSHIELD AND IS CAUSING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE AND OTHER ELECTRONICS TO SHORT OUT. GOT TO WHERE THE CAR WOULDN'T EVEN TURN OVER TO TRY AND START. HAD TO HAVE OVER $3450 WORTH OF REPAIRS DONE AND WAS TOLD THEY SPOKE WITH MINI AND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WAS TOLD THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN IF NOT FIXED. WAS TOLD TO TAKE TO MINI, BUT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

PASSENGERS OC3 SEAT OCCUPANCY MAT FAILED CAUSING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG TO BE DEACTIVATED. MINI HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS FOR 10 YEARS AND 120,000 MILES. MY MINI WAS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD BUT DID HAVE 130,000 MILES ON 4/3/2019 WHEN I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER. MINI HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTED PART EVEN THOUGHT THEY KNOW IT WAS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. THEY ALSO KNOW THAT ON PREVIOUS YEARS MODELS THEY WERE FORCED TO RECALL THIS PART AS I ALSO OWN A 2006 MINI THAT WENT BAD AND IT TOOK OVER A YEAR BEFORE THEY FINALLY DID A RECALL. MINI DOES NOT HAVE A WORKABLE CUSTOMER RELATIONS SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS THE CUSTOMER TO APPEAL THIS SAFETY DEFECT REPLACEMENT REJECTION. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MINI KNOW THEY HAVE A DEFECTIVE SAFETY SENSOR AND HAVE A HISTORY OF THIS BEING A BAD PART BUT ARE UNWILLING TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPLACE IT. THEY INSTEAD WANT THE CUSTOMER TO SPEND OVER $1,000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY. THIS IS A BAD COMPANY DYNAMIC AND SHOWS NO CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY.

MY CAR STARTED OFF WITH A ROUGH IDLE AND OCCASIONALLY WOULDN'T START. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BECAME JERKY WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS SUDDEN SPURTS WHEN IT WANTS TO TAKE OFF. I RAN THE CODE AND GOT P0012. FROM THERE I HAVE REPLACED MULTIPLE PARTS BUT I THINK I LANDED ON THE TIMING CHAIN. I KNOW THERE WAS A SETTLEMENT WITH THESE YEARS BUT FOR SOME REASON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE SETTLEMENT

AIRBAG PASSENGER LIGHT STAYS ON WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT AND ALSO STAYS ON WHEN IS NOBODY IN THE PASSENGER SEAT . AND THE PASSENGER LIGHT TURNS ON IN THE RPM GAGE (IN THE RPM GAGE )

SRS warning light on. Intermittent at first. Passenger seat occupancy light on and off intermittently, occupied or not. SRS code reader indicates the problem is the passenger seat occupancy sensor. Mini dealer states the repair is not covered under warrantee. I fear for the safety of my front seat passenger if airbag does not deploy and/or the safety of a smaller child if it does deploy.

PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON AND IT IS DEACTIVATED WHEN I AM DRIVING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH NO RECALL IN EFFECT. I AM SEEKING BYPASS OPTIONS ONLINE TO BUY TO ALWAYS KEEP THE AIRBAG ON REGARDLESS OF HAVING A PASSENGER SITTING THERE. STILL VERY UNSAFE IF A KID SITS IN THAT SEAT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED

LIGHT IS COMING ON AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY BUT WHEN YOU DECELERATE IT BUCKS DOWN. IT HAPPENS ANYWHERE ON THE ROADS WHEN DRIVING AND YOU DECELERATE. THE LIGHT THAT INDICATES ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION, IN THE BOOK IT SAYS I WON'T BE ABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK BUT THERE IS NO ISSUE SHIFTING OUT OF PARK, SO NOT SURE IF IT IS CONSIDERED ELECTRICAL OR IF IT IS POWERTRAIN

PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT ON WHEN PASSENGER (OVER 25LBS) IS SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT. AS IS THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT IN SPEEDOMETER GAUGE. ALSO SRS RED WARNING LIGHT SHOWS ON TACHOMETER GAUGE. THESE WARNING INDICATORS ARE "ON" REGARDLESS OF WHETHER VEHICAL IS IDLE (NOT MOVING) OR WHEN AT SPEED( IN MOTION)

AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND DOES NOT TURN OFF

MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY, EVEN IF SOMEONE IS SITTING THERE

I WAS DRIVING DOWN HWY 16 (A STRAIGHT A WAY 2 LANE HWY) TOWARDS WOODLAND WHEN THE DISPLAY SHOWED WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE WATER ICON AND I NOTICED WHITE SMOKE FROM UNDER MY HOOD, SO I PULLED OVER AND SAT THERE THINKING MAYBE MY CAR WAS OVERHEATING. A TRUCK COMING BEHIND ME WENT BY HONKING THEIR HORN AND I LOOKED IN REVIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED DARK SMOKE COMING FROM BEHIND MY CAR.. I THEN PROCEED TO GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND COULDNT GET THE DRIVERS DOOR OPEN A GENTLEMAN CAME UP TO MY VEHICLE TOLD ME TO GET OUT BUT I TOLD HIM THE DOOR WOULDNT OPEN, HE OPENED THE DOOR AND WAS SAYING GET OUT AND AWAY THE CARS GOING TO BLOW UP, THAT WAS MY FIRST ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPT WAS NOTIFIED AND CAME OUT TO WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS AT AND PROCEED TO EXTINQUISH THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED BY TRIPLE A OFF A FRIENDS OF MINES TOW PACKAGE THAT SHE HAS. IM CONTACTING THE FIRE DEPT AND POLICE TODAY ON GETTING SOME PAPERWORK RELATED TO THIS TODAY SO ALL I HAVE TO SHOW IS PICS.

AFTER TAKING A OFF RAMP FROM THE INTERSTATE THE CAR LOST POWER AND SPUTTERED AND JERKED. LATER THE SAME DAY. AFTER GETTING BACK ON THE INTERSTATE THE CAR AGAIN SPUTTERED, LOST ALL POWER AND I TOOK THE NEXT EXIT I WAS AFRAID I WAS GOING TO GET RAN OVER

TAKATA INFLATORS POWER STEERING WENT OUT, GOING DOWN ROAD AND WEMT OUT.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2009 MINI COOPER AND THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT WARNING LIGHTS COME ON WHENEVER I GET IN THE CAR. THE LIGHT CAME ON RECENTLY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AND IT NOW OCCURS EVERY TIME I TURN THE MOTOR ON. I'VE BEEN ONLINE RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS MAY MEAN THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM FACING A NUMBER OF MINI COOPER OWNERS AND BMW HAS NOT RESOLVED THIS PROBLEM AFTER MANY COMPLAINTS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MINI COOPER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE SOUTH SHORE MINI COOPER WAS CONTACTED AND DIAGNOSED THE AIR BAG SENSOR MAT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURERS WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,000....UPDATED 10/23/17 *BF UPDATED 10/24/2017*JS

THE AIRBAG FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT STOPPED WORKING 3 YEARS AGO. I CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES FOR A RECALL BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I WENT TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IF THERE ISN'T A RECALL, THERE WAS NOTHING MINI COOPER COULD DO ABOUT IT. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND IT WILL BE OVER 900.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ISN'T IT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CAR MANUFACTURER TO FIX SOMETHING THAT JUST STOPPED WORKING (NO ACCIDENTS OR ANY REASON), ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS SUCH A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE?

DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN. VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY.

SHOCKED TO FIND AN 8-INCH HAIRLINE CRACK TO THE UPPER RIGHT PORTION OF MY WINDSHIELD (RIGHT ABOVE MY EYES ON DRIVER'S SIDE). THE WINDSHIELD GLASS SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED ON THE EXTERIOR, WITH ZERO EVIDENCE OF IMPACT, HARSH WEATHER OR TEMPERATURE CHANGES. IT'S BEEN 60 DEGREES FOR WEEKS NOW AND MY MINI HAD BEEN SAFELY PARKED, OUTSIDE OF MY HOME. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM MINI CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I WILL BE TAKING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST MINI FOR THEIR DISREGARD FOR MY OWN AND PUBLIC SAFETY. SHAME ON THE NHTSA FOR SETTLING WITH MINI ON CHARGES OF SUB-PAR GLASS INSTALLED IN MINI COOPER HATCHBACK MODELS UNTIL 2008, A FEW MONTHS BEFORE MY '09 MINI WAS PRODUCED.

34,000 MILES 2009 MINI COOPER. PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. QUOTED COST TO REPAIR ABOUT $800 JUST FOR THE PART, POSSIBILITY OF AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING WHEN IN AN ACCIDENT. SEEMS TO BE A TYPICAL MINI ISSUE WITH A SLEW OF SIMILAR ISSUES (SOMETIMES MULTIPLE REPLACEMENTS), SENSOR IN SEAT CUSHION AND ENTIRE SEAT WOULD NEED REPLACED. SAME PROBLEM THAT RESULTED IN 2005-2008 MODEL RECALLS, BUT NOT 2009? WITH THE ISSUE BEING THIS PREVALENT? VERY WORRISOME, PASSENGERS RIDING IN CAR WITHOUT THE PROTECTION OF AN AIRBAG DEPLOYING.

PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT FLICKERS ON AND OFF EVEN WHEN NO ONE OR ANYTHING IS IN THE SEAT. DOES IT WHEN STATIONARY OR MOVING.
