WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE AUTOMATIC FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW MECHANISM IN AN UPWARD MOTION WHICH FAILED TO OPERATE. HOWEVER, AFTER WAITING A PERIOD OF TWENTY TO THIRTY MINUTES THE WINDOW BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED TRAVELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SERVICE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY FRIEND AND I NOTICED AN ANTIFREEZE SMELL AND THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO FOG. WE BOTH WORK ON CARS FOR A LIVING AND WE BOTH KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. THE HEATER CORE. WHAT SURPRISED ME WAS THAT MY CAR ONLY HAS 35K MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN A HEATER CORE FAIL WITH SO LITTLE MILES ON IT. THE PART COST ME $200 AND THE LABOR, WHICH I WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO PERFORM, TOOK THE BETTER PART OF A DAY. THE CAR'S COMPUTER IS LOCATED BENEATH THE HEATER CORE BUT LUCKILY I CAUGHT IT IN TIME OR IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BY STALLING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY PARKED THE CAR AND CALLED FOR A TOW TO KEEP FROM CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, DAMAGING THE VERY EXPENSIVE COMPUTER, AND BREATHING THE TOXIC FUMES FROM THE ANTIFREEZE. *JB
