COMPLETE BRAKE JOB REQUIRED AT 56,000KM. NEW REAR ROTORS & PADS, NEW FRONT PADS. DID NOT BOTHER WITH NISSAN SERVICE. EARLIEST I HAVE EVER REPLACED BRAKES IN AN AUTOMOBILE. VERY LIGHT HIGHWAY DRIVING.*AK
I EXPERIENCED AN INCIDENT BEFORE THAT MY CAR STALLED BUT IT RESTARTED QUICKLY. THEN FEW WEEKS LATER MY CAR STALLED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME DID NOT WANT TO START UP AS QUICKLY AS BEFORE AND MY CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON THIS TIME. AS SOON AS IT STARTED UP AGAIN I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. ON MY WAY OVER THERE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND I FELT MY CAR LOOSING POWER AND IT JERKED BACK. I WAS VERY AFRAID THAT MY CAR WOULD STALL OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAIN MY SITUATION BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO HELP AT THAT TIME BECAUSE THEY WERE BOOKED UP. I LEFT AND WENT TO AUTO ZONE AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON MY CAR. THE REASON MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WAS DUE TO MALFUNCTION OF THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ON MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. NEXT MORNING I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TOO AND CONCLUDED THE SAME THING. THEY REPLACED IT WITH A NEW CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS OFF AND THE CAR RUNS SMOOTHER AND HAS NOT YET STALLED OUT. *TR

MY CAR IS A LEMON. *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN SE-R. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR, THE CLUTCH FAILED. AS MANY OTHERS HAVE STATED,THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE , BUT A VERY SERIOUS AND UNSAFE ISSUE. WE WERE GETTING NO RELIEF FROM OUR DEALERSHIPS AND THE MANUFACTURERS. THE CLUTCH WILL SINK TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE INTO ANY GEAR EXCEPT NEUTRAL. TRIED TO BRING THE CAR IN, BUT THE CLOSEST I GOT WAS A STREET AWAY WHEN THE CLUTCH ENGAGED AGAIN. I KNEW IF THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE IT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AT LEAST WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTLY. THAT WAS WHAT I WAS TOLD FOR THE 3 YEARS I HAD THE CAR. I LIVE IN ATLANTA AND TRAVEL ON THE MAJOR HIGHWAYS, TRYING TO GET OVER 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC IN NEUTRAL WAS VERY UNSAFE. I GUESS IT WAS A GOOD THING I HAVE ABOUT 6 AIRBAGS IN THE CAR SO WHEN SOMEONE PLOWED INTO ME, I WON'T DIE AND MAYBE NO ONE ELSE WILL EITHER. THIS WAS A REAL ISSUE THAT MANY PEOPLE STATED ON NISSAN FORUMS AS WELL. ATTENTION NEEDED TO BE DRAWN TO THIS ISSUE. *AK
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
I DROVE A 2005 ALTIMA 2.5S WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN APRIL OF 2005. IT WAS MAINTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NISSAN RECOMMENDATIONS. CURRENT MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 21,000. NO ACCIDENTS ,AND WAS IN EXCELLENT TO GOOD CONDITION. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT. AS I APPROACHED THE LIGHT, THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND STALLED. PRIOR TO THE STALL THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR AND NO WARNING LIGHTS TO SIGNAL A PROBLEM. UPON STALLING THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN QUICKLY SHUT OFF AGAIN. I TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED RIGHT AWAY AND BEGAN THE SAME JERKING MOTION. AS I CAME TO THE NEXT LIGHT I WAS ABLE TO TURN RIGHT AND PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD JUST AS THE CAR CAME TO A STALL A SECOND TIME. I CALLED NISSAN. WHILE ON THE PHONE, I NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD OF MY VEHICLE. IN A MATTER OF SECONDS THE SMOKE BECAME DARKER. I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. I EXITED THE VEHICLE. WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH THE 911 OPERATOR,FLAMES CAME OUT OF THE HOOD. OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST THREE AND ONE-HALF WEEKS I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH NISSAN REGARDING THE CAR FIRE AND WARRANTY. NISSAN TOOK TWO WEEKS TO SEND AN ENGINEER TO LOOK AT THE CAR, AND IT HAS BEEN OVER A WEEK SINCE THE ENGINEER VISITED, AND I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD WHAT RECOURSE WAS AVAILABLE OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT I MAY HAVE TO GO TO ARBITRATION WITH NISSAN TO SEEK ANY DAMAGES. I HAVE SEEN NOTHING BUT A COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR PROFESSIONALISM AND SERVICE FROM A COMPANY WHICH TOUTED ITSELF AS A SERVICE-ORIENTED ORGANIZATION. I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT DREW YOUR ATTENTION TO THE NEED FOR A SERIOUS INQUIRY INTO POTENTIAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE 2005 ALTIMA. CAR FIRES WHICH OCCUR IN NEW VEHICLES WERE A DANGEROUS MATTER, AND I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN HAS NOT DEALT WITH THIS ISSUE IN A MORE APPROPRIATE WAY. EVERYONE INVOLVED WAS FORTUNATE NO ONE WAS INJURED OR KILLED. *AK
WE OWN A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH 24,000 MILES. WHILE ON VACATION LAST FEBRUARY 2007 AND WE HEARD THIS NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. HAD NO WARNING BEFORE THIS. IF WE HAD WE WOULD HAVE LEFT THIS CAR HOME. WE LIVE IN ROCHESTER, NY. THE NOISE STARTED IN WINCHESTER,VA. SINCE TO US IT WAS STILL A NEW CAR WE DID NOT THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WE DROVE TO SAVANNAH, GA. SINCE THE NOISE WAS GETTING WORSE WE TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US THAT ROAD SALT HAD RUSTED THE LEFT SIDE REAR CALIPER. WE HAD A VERY MILD WINTER IN 2005-2006 AND 2007 WINTER STARTED OFF VERY MILD/ HE STATED THAT THE LEFT SIDE REAR BRAKE PADS , NO PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE. PADS AND ROTOR)AND LEFT ROTOR WORE OUT. THEY CLEANED BOTH REAR CALIPERS,RESURFACED RIGHT ROTOR, REPLACED REAR PADS AND LEFT REAR ROTOR. IT COST US $309. WE FEEL THAT THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE PART NOT WEAR AND TEAR. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED SINCE I AM THE ONE THAT DRIVES IT MOST. NISSAN STATES THAT SINCE WE DID NOT DO THE 15,000 WARRANTY CHECK THEY CAN NOT HELP US. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT REAR BRAKES SHOULD GET AT LEAST 60,000 MILES. ALSO WHEN WE ASKED A CLOSE RELATIVE WHO WAS A SERVICE MANAGER FOR NISSAN HE CONSULTED ANOTHER PERSON WHO SAID THAT SINCE THE REPAIR WAS DONE IN A DIFFERENT" WARRANTY ZONE "THAN WERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED THAT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW UP. TO ME THAT MAKES NO SENSE SINCE CAR MISHAPS CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE. WE FEEL WE HAVE A LEGITIMATE GRIPE AND SHOULD GET REIMBURSED FROM NISSAN. ONE OF THE REASONS WE PURCHASED THIS CAR WAS THAT CONSUMER REPORTS GAVE THE BRAKING SYSTEM A VERY GOOD RATING. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY RIGHT FRONT STRUT REPLACED 2 TIMES. IT IS NOW BAD AGAIN. THEY HAVE ALSO RETORQUED THE SUSPENSION AND REPLACED THE STRUT MOUNT. THE NOISE DOESN'T STOP. PROBLEM STARTED AT 29,000 MILES AND CONTINUES AT 43,000. THE NOISE CONTINUES TO GET WORSE AND NISSAN ONLY REPAIRS IT BECAUSE OF BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ARBITRATION ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE CLUTCH STAYS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO SHIFT. *JB
MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5L LOOSES IT'S BRAKES IN COLD WEATHER. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NISSAN KNOW WANTS TO REPLACE THE BRAKING PIECE BY PIECE WITH MY MONEY AND TIME. *JB
TL*- WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THE 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR, BUT WASN'T QUITE SURE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM UNTIL A BYSTANDER INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE STARTED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE BY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CONTINUING TO BURN UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS. THE CONTACT COULD PROVIDE PICTURES OF VEHICLE IF NEEDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE BOTH 18000.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE FUEL PUMP, ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY TERMINAL CABLES WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE ECM BUT THE TECHNICIAN DISAGREED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,100.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA LOOK LIKE THEY ARE BURNED ON THE INSIDE AND FOGGY LOOKING. AT NIGHT THEY ARE VERY DIM, ALMOST AS THOUGH I WAS DRIVING IN A CONSTANT THICK FOG. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS FOGGY LOOKING CIRCLES ALL OVER INSIDE THE GLASS AND MAKES VISIBILITY HARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE REVVED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT HIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME FAILURE IN JANUARY OF 2007, BUT RECURRED 4,000 MILES LATER. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT THE REPAIR WILL NEED TO BE MADE AFTER EVERY FEW MILES HE TRAVELS. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) WAS REFERENCED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,800.
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS FROM MY 2005 ALTIMA THAT I PURCHASED NEW IN SEPT 05. THE FIRST WEEK I OWNED THE VEHICLE MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS VERY SLUGGISH FROM TAKEOFF, I THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL NISSAN ARE SLUGGISH AND NEED TO BE DRIVEN TO GET THE "NEWNESS FROM THE VEHICLE" WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKES ARE SQUEALING AND MY TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, I DON'T EVEN HAVE 20K MILES ON MY VEHICLE SO THIS IS VERY MYSTERIOUS TO ME. NISSAN IN MY OPINION DOES NOT LISTEN TO ITS CUSTOMERS AND CLAIMS TO BE THE VERY BEST TOWARDS THEIR CUSTOMERS ON THE COMMERCIALS BUT IN REALITY THEY ARE JUST ANOTHER BIG COMPANY MAKING MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF "USE TO BE LOYAL" CUSTOMERS". EVERY COMPLAINT ON THIS BOARD I CAN AGREE WITH WHICH IS SAD FOR I TO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SEAT BELTS, SHARP BAR UNDER THE PASSENGERS SEAT, ENGINE AND PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG LIGHT SO BASICALLY ALL WE HAVE IS AN EXPENSIVE GOOD LOOKING NON-WORKING PIECES OF CRAP. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GIVE MY VEHICLE GAS AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT, I HEARD A HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I BEGAN TO GIVE THE VEHICLE GAS, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS INCREDIBLY HARD TO TURN. I TRIED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND AS A RESULT, I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING COLUMN FELT AS THOUGH IT DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING AT THE TIME. WHEN MY VEHICLE CAME TO REST, I WAS FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MEDIAN AND HAD ADDITIONALLY TAKEN OUT SEVERAL ROADS SIGNS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY AND INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC FOR THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE RIGHT TIE ROD HAD BROKEN. AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE, THE RADIATOR WAS BUSTED, HEADLIGHT BUSTED AND MANY OTHER COSTLY EXPENSES. AT PRESENT TIME, MY VEHICLE REMAINS IN THE BODY SHOP AWAITING REPAIRS. THIS HAS ENDED UP A VERY COSTLY DEFECT IN MY VEHICLE AND I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER FOR SOME REIMBURSEMENT! THIS ACCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE POLICE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT START ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS WORKING FINE, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT STATED THAT THE CAUSE WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER.
SIDE VIEW MIRRORS ARE MADE OF CHEAP LIGHTWEIGHT PLASTIC AND THEY DETERIATE AND BECOME VERY FOGGY AND DRIVER CAN NOT SEE OUT OF THEM. *TR
ALTERNATOR - I WAS TOLD THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS ON BACKORDER, I DON'T UNDERSTAND, I AM NUMBER 11 ON THE LIST. *NM
THE ALTIMA'S STOCK OF FRONT STRUTS ARE DEFECTIVE. THIS IS SUBSTANTIATED BY A LOT OF NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS. *TR
CAR STALLING AT IN TRAFFIC, STOP LIGHTS, AND WHILE DRIVING. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE AIR FILTER AND HAVE FUEL INJECTOR SERVICE. I DID. CAR BEGAN STALLING AGAIN. I WAS TOLD TO HAVE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED. I DID. ENGINE LIGHT ON . HOSE PUT BACK ON. ENGINE LIGHT ON AGAIN. WAS TOLD THERE WAS CODE FOR IDLE VALVE BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO ADDRESS IT. THEY RESET COMPUTER. CAR STALLING AGAIN. BARELY MADE IT ACROSS INTERSECTION TO GET TO DEALERSHIP. NISSAN REPLACED AIR FILTER, CLEANED FUEL INJECTORS (AGAIN) AND REPLACED CRACK SHAFT SENSORS. I JUST GOT CAR TODAY. THE CAR STALLING WHILE DRIVING SEEMS A BIT DANGEROUS. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA ON 2005, SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR EVERY NOW A THEN, WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IT WILL NOT TURN, I TRY TURN THE KEY IT TURN AND STARTED THE CAR. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH A FAULTY IGNITION. MY GRANDSON, WHO WAS A SALESMAN AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN 2005, TOOK THE CAR IN TO BE CHECKED BECAUSE MY KEY KEPT GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION . I WAS TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR REPEATEDLY AND IS GETTING WORSE. NOW, WHEN I PICKED IT UP FROM THAT DEALER, MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I CRANKED IT 4 TIMES AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. NISSAN TECH WHO WORKED ON MY CAR, RAISED HIS HANDS UP AND SAID "I JUST FIXED THE MOLDING". AND WALKED AWAY. MY CAR NEVER HAD THAT ISSUE BEFORE. JUST WHEN I PICKED IT UP THAT FROM THE DEALER. ANOTHER MORE HELPFUL TECH CAME AND IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME HE NEEDED TO REPROGRAM MY KEYS?!?! HE DID IT AND SAID BRING IN ALL THE REST NEXT WEEK AND I'LL REPROGRAM. I WENT HOME AND NONE OF MY KEYS WORKED. I HAD TO TOW IT INTO MY LOCAL DEALER "MY NISSAN" IN SALINAS CA AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD REPROGRAM ALL MY KEYS FOR ONLY $50. 2 HOURS LATER THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIGURE THE PROGRAM AS MY CAR WASN'T RECOGNIZING ANY CODES THEY WERE USING. SO 5 DAYS LATER, ITS' STILL AT THE DEALERS AND THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW EOM AND INTERNAL ANTENNAE. FIRST THEY WANTED ME TO PAY FOR IT. I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAVE FOLLOWED ALL MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS SO I REFUSED. AFTER 3 DAYS, THEY AGREED TO COVER THE UNIT BUT NOT THE ANTENNAE AND FINALLY APPROVED FOR A RENTAL CAR. I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM ON MY CAR. THEY OFFER NO EXPLANATION ON HOW OR WHY IT HAPPENED. *NM
I TOOK MY CAR FOR AN ALIGNMENT, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE REAR SUB-FRAME ON MY CAR IS BENT. THUS, THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT COULD NOT BE COMPLETED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAUSE WAS EITHER A REAR-END COLLISION, DAMAGED DURING TRANSPORT OF THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, OR A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I CANNOT SAY WHICH OF THE LATTER TWO IS THE CAUSE, BUT I AM MOST CERTAIN THAT IT IS NOT DUE TO THE FIRST, A REAR-END COLLISION (OR ANY TYPE OF COLLISION), AS THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT SINCE PURCHASED. MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS PURCHASED AS NEW IN MARCH 2005. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE CAR WITHOUT CHARGE TO ME. THEREFORE, NISSAN HAS NOT INSPECTED MY CAR. TO ADD, MY CAR IS STILL UNDER 36K/36 MONTHS AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I JUST PRAY THAT I AM NOT ON THE HIGHWAY SHOULD ANYTHING GIVE DUE TO THE SUB-FRAME BEING BENT. I RECENTLY HAD AN INCIDENT WHERE MY CLUTCH LOST PRESSURE WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO GEAR. THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET REAR ENDED GOING 80 MPH. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT EACH TIME THEY TELL ME THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CLUTCH LOSES PRESSURE ONLY AFTER DRIVING DURING HOT EXTENDED PERIODS. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY IN THIS VEHICLE AND CANNOT GET THE DEALER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HELLO IN 2006 AUGUST, MY 2005 BRAND NEW ALTIMA'S BATTERY EXPLODED AND IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT ME AND MY FRIEND DID NOT GET HURT. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE BATTERY. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A THIRD PARTY SHOP WHERE THEY REPLACE MY BATTERY FUSE (WHICH I WAS TOLD CAUSED THE EXPLOSION) AND MY BATTERY. WHEN I WENT OVER THE DEALERSHIP LATER THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD'VE BROUGHT THE CAR OVER THERE. THEY CLAIMED I WAS LYING WHENI SAID I WAS TOLD BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THEY DON'T COVER THE BATTERY AND DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE CAR. NOW, MY FRONT BUMPER IS COVERED IN BATTERY ACID AND IS NOT REPAIRABLE. I CALLED THE CUSTEMR SERVICE DID EVERYTHING I COULD BUT THEY SIMPLY WON'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE I DID NOT TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH I WOULD IF THEY DIDN'T TOLD ME THEY DID NOT COVER THE WARRANTY ON THE PHONE. 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. NOTICED TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AT 59,000 MILES. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AT THAT TIME. THEY REFUSED TO EVEN CONSIDER IT A WARRANTY ISSUE BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS NOT CHANGED AT 30,000 MILES. OWNERS MANUAL HAS SEVERAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES. MINE FALLS INTO THE CATEGORY OF SUBSTANTIAL HWY. DRIVING AND DOES NOT REQUIRE THE FLUID BE CHANGED UNTIL 100,000 MILES. I CONTINUED TO PURSUE THE CLAIM EVEN AFTER THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRATION PERIOD. I AM NOW TOLD THAT CLAIM WILL BE DENIED BECAUSE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT DONE WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AT 59,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED THE FLUID ON MY FIRST VISIT (AT MY EXPENSE) AND VERY BLUNTLY TOLD ME THAT IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, I WAS ON MY OWN. THEY NEVER OFFERED TO DO A DIAGNOSTICS TEST. THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY DID A DIAGNOSTICS TEST AT 67,000 MILES AND DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD, BUT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE CLUTCH DROPS DOWN TO THE FLOOR MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT IF POSSIBLE TO PUT IT IN A GEAR. IT GETS TO A POINT WHERE YOU CAN NOT PUT THE CAR IN 1ST GEAR AT ALL. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. I HAVE TRIED TO GET WITH NISSAN TO REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND ALL THEY SAY IS THAT THEY CAN NOT GET THE PROBLEM TO REPEAT FOR THEM. IT USUALLY CORRECTS ITSELF FROM AROUND ONE HOUR TURNED OFF TO A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE CLUTCH WOULD GET BACK TO THE NORMAL POSITION. THIS HAS PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN A VULNERABLE SITUATION WHERE I HAD ALMOST VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND STRAIGHT INTO A GAS STATION. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURE AND TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THERE DEFECTIVE ENGINEERING. ON JUNE 7, 2006 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA IN A ROAD CONSTRUCTION AREA OF I-10 IN VIDOR, TX. THERE WERE CONCRETE BARRIERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE INTERSTATE. SHE RAN OVER A PIECE OF TIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE AND THE CAR DIED. SHE WAS LEFT STRANDED ON THE INTERSTATE. THE CAR WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART, BUT STARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE VIDOR POLICE DROVE IT OFF OF THE INTERSTATE BUT IT WAS STUCK IN A HIGHER GEAR. UPON INSPECTION THERE IS A ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION THAT CAME UNDONE. THERE IS A HEAT SHIELD AROUND THE CONNECTION, BUT IT DOES NOT PROTECT THE CONNECTION FROM BEING STRUCK BY ROAD DEBRIS. IF THIS IS GOING TO KILL THE CAR ENGINE ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES, THEN IT SHOULD BE BETTER PROTECTED. *NM

I OWN A 2005 ALTIMA FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS NOW. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY PREVIOUS NISSAN. HOWEVER, I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT. WHEN I SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. I AM 5'4 AND WEIGH ABOUT 104 LBS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO AUTOWAY NISSAN (TAMPA, FL) TWICE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IN ORDER FOR THE LIGHT TO GO OFF, I HAVE TO JUMP AROUND IN MY SEAT SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OFF. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT GOES OFF AND OTHER TIMES IT DOESN'T. WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OFF, MOST OF THE TIME IT COMES BACK ON AFTER 10 MINUTES OR SO. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT AUTOWAY NISSAN HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION, ONLY TELLING ME THAT IT IS A WEIGHT SENSOR THAT PICKS UP AT 100-110 LBS AND THAT IT CAN NOT BE CALIBRATED. I HAVE EVEN CONTACTED NISSAN AND STARTED A FILE WITH THEM. IT HAS BEEN TWO DAYS NOW, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE FOR THAT SENSOR TO PICK UP ON WEIGHT ONLY. MY HUSBAND'S '04 ACCORD'S SENSOR GOES OFF WHEN I SIT IN HIS PASSENGER SEAT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT MY CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS FAILING AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT FOR APPROXIMATELY $600. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE SENSOR FOR $222.91. CAR PURCHASED IN 2004. ADDITIONAL WORK REQUIRED: ENGINE REPLACEMENT, WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACEMENT, TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, AND INTERIOR PANELS REPLACEMENT. I FOUND INFORMATION OF THIS CAMPAIGN (07V527000) THROUGH WWW.NHTSA.GOV AND I'VE CONTACTED NISSAN. NISSAN CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH CAMPAIGN AND THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. THE CAMPAIGN THAT THEY SHOW FOR THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS FOR THE 2002-3 ALTIMA MODELS. *TR

THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM THEREFORE THE DEALER DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKES SQUEAKED AND WHEN DRIVING AT 10 MPH THE BRAKES MADE A SQUEAKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME DUST WAS BLOWN OFF THE BRAKES. ON THE SECOND AND THIRD VISIT THE BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACE. THE FOURTH TIME, THE BRAKES WERE DETERMINED TO BE 'GLAZED' AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM.

I HAD NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE; I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED TO HAVE THEM TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE STUCK INSIDE OF THE CALIPER SLIDES AND WERE NOT RELEASING FROM THE ROTOR. THEY RECOMMENDED REPAIRS COSTING ($320 + TAX). THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THEN ADVISED ME THAT THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO A 1 1/2 YEAR OLD CAR W/ 15,600 MILES ON IT AND HE WOULD SEE IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD COVER THE CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR WORK NEEDED. NISSAN DECLINED COVERING THE REPAIRS AT THAT TIME AND I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT RIGHT THEN AND THERE. IN AUGUST OF 2006, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO ANOTHER REPAIR FACILITY TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE AT THE COST AS 338.37, WHICH INCLUDED TAX. TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE AGE AND MILES ON THE CAR, THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM W/ THE BRAKES AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS STATEMENT, THIS OBVIOUSLY SEEMED TO BE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WHICH I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO INCUR THE COST OF TO CORRECT. I SUBMITTED A LETTER WITH THE RECEIPTS FOR THE WORK DONE AND THE ORIGINAL INVOICE FROM THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO NISSAN TWO TIMES OVER A 3 MONTH SPAN BEFORE I GOT A RESPONSE FROM THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT. THEIR RESPONSE WAS, ONE, I ALREADY GOT THE WORK DONE SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO NOW AND SECONDLY THESE ARE ALL WEAR AND TEAR ITEMS. I WAS ADVISED BEING THAT I LIVE IN UPSTATE NY AND THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO SNOW AND SALT IN THE WINTER THIS COULD HAPPEN. MY ARGUMENT WAS I'VE LIVED HERE MY WHOLE LIFE AND HAVE NEVER PUT THESE ITEMS ON A VEHICLE W/15K ON IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY REFUSED TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION AND MY OPINION NOW OF NISSAN AS A MANUFACTURE IS VERY POOR, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL AND OBVIOUSLY THEY MAKE A POOR PRODUCT THAT SHOULD NOT BE SOLD IN STATES WHERE THERE IS SNOW AS THEIR PRODUCT IS NOT MADE FOR ITS INTENDED USE IN THESE AREAS. WHEN THE WEATHER GETS HOT, MY CLUTCH MEDAL BECOMES VERY LOSE (OR PERHAPS LOSES THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE?) AND DROPS, SUCH THAT I CAN ONLY CHANGE GEARS WITH THE LAST INCH OR SO OF THE PEDAL. SOMETIMES IT GETS SO BAD THAT THE PEDAL DROPS ALL OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CLUTCH CANNOT BE USED TO CHANGE GEARS. THIS OFTEN HAPPENS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON HOT DAYS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS, AS IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN SPONTANEOUSLY. IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY SUMMER THAT I HAVE OWNED THE CAR, BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE IT FOR A MECHANIC OR THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS THUS NOT ABLE TO GET IT FIXED WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.

I WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT BUILDING. AS I REACHED THE FRONT OF THE SPOT (THE END WHERE THE FRONT OF MY CAR WOULD BE), MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA BUCKED BACKWARD SLIGHTLY, THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CAR HIT A TREE, THEN CONTINUED FORWARD UNTIL IT STOPPED IN THE BEDROOM OF MY DOWNSTAIRS NEIGHBOR. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME. I AM SURE OF THIS, AS THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN A PARKING GARAGE, AND THE CAR ACCELERATED INTO A CONCRETE POLE. REPAIRS TO THE AUTO BODY (ONLY) WERE COMPLETED, BUT IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS DOWNSHIFTING VERY HARD. I HAD NISSAN CHECK IT OUT, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. I AM NOT NUTS. IN MARCH 06 I BROUGHT MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, WHICH I BOUGHT BRAND NEW, IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 19,000 MILES WHEN MY MECHANIC STATED THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE WORN. I THEN BROUGHT IT TO MY DEALER AND THE TOO STATED THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE PREMATURELY WORN, THE PAD DOWN TO THE METAL MORE SO ON THE PASSENGER SIDE,THEY DON'T KNOW WHY BUT WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT. AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO NISSAN OF AMERICA AND MY DEALER I HAD TO PAY $260 FOR REAR BRAKES. NOW ITS DECEMBER AND 10,000 MILES LATER AND THE REAR BRAKES ARE GRINDING AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED AGAIN THAT THEY WERE WORN AND WOULD REPLACE JUST THE RIGHT REAR PADS AND RESURFACE THE ROTOR. I SAID THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG AND AGAIN THE DON'T KNOW WHY THE BRAKES WERE WORN. THEY JUST SAID THAT ALTIMAS GO THROUGH BRAKES FASTER. I DON'T BUY IT. I HAVE A CALL INTO NISSAN NOW, MAYBE THIS TIME THEY WILL DO SOMETHING. *NM
BACK PASSENGER CONTROL BAR (2 RODS) BROKE AT THE WELD WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSED MY CAR TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, AND THE REAR HOUSING. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP, THIS WAS THE POOREST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER, I WAS THEN TOLD IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER EITHER WARRANTY THAT I CARRY. I WAS TOLD TO TURN IT OVER TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I FEEL THAT NISSAN IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM. THIS SAME PART HAS A RECALL IN OTHER STATES, JUST NOT FLORIDA? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I HAVE BEEN TOLD BECAUSE OF WEATHER CONDITIONS, HOW MANY EXCUSES CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH? FLORIDA DOES AND WILL ALWAYS HAVE WEATHER CONDITIONS! I HAVE OWNED 4 CARS, 3 OF THEM BEING NISSAN. I GUESS THIS SAYS THAT I'M LOYAL AND THERE NOT! I FEEL LIKE IT DOESN'T PAY TO BE A NISSAN CUSTOMER. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN. MY CAR IS NOW AT A SECOND NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE TO SAY CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NO BETTER THERE. I FEEL I HAVE BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE. I BELIEVE ALL THERE IN FOR IS A SELL! IT DOESN'T PAY TO PURCHASE THE WARRANTY, IT'S A SELL AND NOTHING MORE! *NM
THE CLUTCH PEDAL WILL SINK TO THE FLOOR DURING DRIVING. SOMETIMES THE CLUTCH PEDAL WILL SINK SO LOW THAT IT LAYS ON THE FLOOR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I AM UNABLE TO SWITCH GEARS AT ALL. I WILL HAVE TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES. THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT RANDOM TIMES AND DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH ANY PARTICULAR EVENT DURING DRIVING. IT OCCURS DURING DIFFERENT TIMES OF DAY, DIFFERENT WEATHER TYPES AND AT DIFFERENT TRAVELING SPEEDS. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR ABOUT 3-4 YEARS ON MY CAR. IT WAS FIRST REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER FULL WARRANTY WITH ABOUT 15,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT REPLACED ANY PARTS. THE LAST VISIT I TOOK IT IN THE TECHNICIAN TOPPED OFF THE CLUTCH FLUID, BUT THIS DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND MANY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NO RESOLUTION. *TR
