DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR PAN RUST THROUGH. *TR
TOOK CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT FLOOR PANS WERE RUSTED ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. IN THE 7-8 YEARS CAR WAS BEING SERVICED AT DEALERSHIP THERE WAS NEVER ANY MENTION OF RUST. RESEARCHED ON INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN ALTIMA MODEL YEARS 2002-2005. CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS 4-13-15 TO REPORT THE ISSUE AND REQUEST THEY REPAIR IT SINCE I REMEMBERED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, I HAD RECEIVED A NOTICE REGARDING POSSIBLE CORROSION OF THE REAR SUB-FRAME [NOT SAME PART BUT STILL UNDERCARRIAGE RELATED AND PERHAPS MANUFACTURED BY THE SAME COMPANY]. WAS ADVISED BY 1ST REPRESENTATIVE TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT EVALUATED. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE RUST AND TOOK PICTURES [I ASKED FOR A COPIES OF THE PICTURES BUT NEVER GOT THEM]. CALLED CONSUMER AFFAIRS BACK [SAME DAY] AND CASE WAS ASSIGNED TO A REPRESENTATIVE. REP CALLED 4-14-15 AND TOLD ME TO GET AN ESTIMATE [THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT PERFORM THIS TYPE OF REPAIR SO THEY COULD NOT GIVE AN ESTIMATE]. TOOK CAR TO A BODY SHOP AND GOT AN ESTIMATE OF APPROXIMATELY $2,000.00. RECEIVED DECISION FROM NISSAN REP 5-5-15. THEY WOULD NOT BE REPAIRING DUE TO THE AGE AND MILEAGE ON THE CAR AS WELL AS THE ENVIRONMENT. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS TO BE MORE OF A DESIGN FLAW AND FROM WHAT I'VE READ A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ONE AT THAT. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE A LOOK INTO NISSAN'S STANCE ON THIS ISSUE? IT SEEMS QUITE RIDICULOUS TO ASK THE OWNER TO PAY FOR A REPAIR THAT THE MANUFACTURER PROBABLY KNEW WAS FAULTY IN THE FIRST PLACE [AND IF THEY DIDN'T SURELY THEY KNOW BY NOW]. FORWARD IS RUSTING UNDERNEATH ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE,HAVE ALWAYS HAD MY CAR SERVICED WHEN NEEDED OIL CHANGES REGULARLY WASHED REGULARLY TAKEN CARE OF VERY WELL AN ALL HIGHWAY MILES MAJORITY OF THE TIME. KEEP HAVING TO REPAIR THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AS WELL BEEN SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY LATELY I UNDERSTAND PROBLEMS ARISE OVER TIME BUT THE RUST UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD CONSIDERING I DRIVE A LOT OF MILES ON THE FREEWAY. FOUND OUT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM HAPPENING WITH HUNDREDS OF NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS WITH THESE YEAR MODELS. I HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING THE NISSAN TOO MANY PEOPLE I LOVE THIS CAR AND NOW I AM AFRAID TO GET ANOTHER ONE AND I HAD PLANNED ON GETTING ANOTHER ONE SO IF THIS ISSUE ISN'T HELPED AND TAKEN CARE OF I WILL LOOK TO PURCHASE A DIFFERENT KIND OF CAR. *TR
TAKATA RECALL. I BOUGHT MY CAR EXACTLY 11 MONTHS AGO ON FEBRUARY 2015. I FIRST NOTICED WHEN I BOUGHT MY CAR THAT IT JERKED WHEN PUTTING IT IN DRIVE AND REVERSE, I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SALESMAN CONVINCED ME IT IS NOTHING. IT GOT WORSE OVER TIME. I FINALLY TOOK THE CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO SAID MOTOR MOUNTS NEED REPLACING. I THEN FOUND A NISSAN THREAD ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION AND AUTOMATICALLY WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT MY CAR IS DOING 90% OF THE ISSUES LISTED. IT NOW JERKS WHEN I PUT IN DRIVE, REVERSE, WHEN I'M COMING TO A STOP, WHEN I PUSH THE BREAK, AND WHEN I EXCEED MORE THEN 60 MPH IT JERKS. AFTER READING TONS OF THREADS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON AMONGST THE NISSAN ALTIMA 05S. I AM SCARED MY TRANSMISSION WILL GO OUT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM WAS NOTHING BUT NOW IT DEFINITELY SEEMS LIKE AN ISSUE THAT NISSAN JUDGED PUSHED UNDER THE RUG AND KEPT TELLING ME WAS NOTHING.
THE FLOOR BOARDS HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. THIS OCCURS ON THE UNDER SIDE OF THE BODY. THE LOCATION IS APPROXIMATELY AT THE LOCATION WHERE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS FEET SIT ON THE FLOOR. *TR
I ALREADY PAID FOR RUSTED OUT PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS AND UNDER. ALMOST $500.00. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN CERTAIN MODELS BECAUSE OF TWO HOLES YOU CAN VISIBLY SEE UNDER THE CAR ON BOTH SIDES. DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DESIGNED IT LIKE THAT BECAUSE WHAT'S HAPPENING IS MOISTURE GOES UP IN THERE AND FLOWS OVER TO THE SIDES OF THE CAR UNDER THE DOORS AND RUSTS. MY CAR AS NOT BEEN RUN IN THE SALT AT ALL AND I WAS TOLD IT WASN'T NECESSARILY SALT BUT JUST WATER THAT SETTLES AND SITS BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN FLAW, WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED. I THINK THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS AND ARE WAITING FOR PEOPLE TO GET RID OF THEIR CARS SO IF THEY ARE ORDERED TO DO A RECALL, THE NUMBERS WOULD BE LOWER. I WANT REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS AND THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR PLAN CHECKED AS WELL. MY CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND HAD ABOUT 76,00 ON IT WHEN I HAD THE FIRST SIDE DONE. THANKS AND I WAS DENIED INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THIS , STATING IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE! ALSO WE JUST MOVED BACK TO NH AND HAVE BEEN LIVING IN SOUTHERN STATES BECAUSE OF MY HUSBANDS JOB. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA FOR MY SON WHO IS GOING AWAY TO COLLEGE. WHEN SEEING ON THE NEWS ABOUT THE RUST ISSUES WITH THE ALTIMA'S I IMMEDIATELY WENT AND CHECKED UNDERNEATH THE CAR TO DISCOVER THAT BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS ARE RUSTED THROUGH TO THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHERWISE. DUE TO THE MULTIPLE ISSUE IN THE 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE. AT THE VERY LEAST NISSAN SHOULD PROVIDE A GOODWILL RECALL AND STOP TRYING TO PUSH THE BLAME ON OTHER ISSUES. *TR
THE FLOORBOARDS IN THE CAR HAVE ROTTED AND RUSTED CAUSING HOLES IN FLOORBOARD WHICH IS BEYOND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE CAR FLOOR STARTING RUSTING ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. *TR
THE FLOORBOARD UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE IS ROTTED OUT, CENTERED AROUND THE DRAIN PLUGS. THE LARGER HOLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE IS 6 INCHES BY 12 INCHES AND STILL EXPANDING. THIS DESIGN FLAW HAS BEEN REPORTED BY THOUSANDS OF OTHER ALTIMA OWNERS WITH SIMILAR-AGE CARS. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS FINE. *TR
THE FLOOR PAN ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HAS SEVERE RUST AND HAS RUSTED THROUGH IN SOME SPOTS. THE REST OF THE CAR HAS NO OTHER RUST PROBLEMS AND IS IN GOOD SHAPE. I KEEP MY CAR IN GOOD MAINTENANCE AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ONLY THESE AREAS ARE EFFECTED. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS ARE RUSTING OUT. *TR
AFTER SEEING A REPORT ON THE NEWS THIS MORNING THAT NISSAN ALTIMAS ARE HAVING SYSTEMATIC ISSUES WITH RUSTING UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS, I LOOKED UNDER MY 2005 ALTIMA, AND CAN SEE VISIBLE RUSTING UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS. IT HAS RUSTED, CORRODED AND IS FLAKING OFF. IF YOU TOUCH IT, IT FALLS APART. IT HAS NEARLY RUSTED THROUGH. I UNDERSTAND NISSAN WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE POSITION THAT THIS IS NOT A DESIGN FLAW OR A SAFETY HAZARD WITH THESE CARS, BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. IF THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THESE CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, HOW COULD IT JUST BE COINCIDENCE? I AM ABOUT TO HAVE A CHILD, AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A CHILD AROUND IN THIS CAR. I ALSO UNDERSTAND NISSAN ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WITH RESPECT TO THIS ISSUE YEARS AGO, SO THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT HAVE DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESS IT FOR YEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON ONE OTHER OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS BEING CHECKED THE WHOLE UNDERNEATH OF THE CAR WAS IN REAL GOOD SHAPED ALL EXCEPT UNDER THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD IT IS RUSTED THROUGH AND A BIG HOLE IS THERE IT IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPAIRED IT IS LIKE IT WAS MISSED BEING UNDERCOATED IN THAT SPOT. THE HOLE IS PROBABLY 12" X 18" THAT WILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
UPON INSPECTION I NOTICED SIGNIFICANTLY RUSTED FLOORBOARDS BELOW THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FLOOR IS WEAK FROM EXTENSIVE RUST. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE FLOORBOARD IS NEARLY RUSTED OUT. THIS CONDITION WAS DISCOVERED DURING RECENT VEHICLE INSPECTION. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5. 128,000 MILES ON IT, COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK I FOUND OUT THE FLOOR BOARDS ARE COMPLETED ROTTED OUT ON BOTH SIDES, SO BAD THAT ONE CAN STICK THEIR HANDS IN AND FEEL MY CARPET. THE MECHANICS WERE SO SURPRISED HOW BAD THEY WERE AND THIS WAS THE ONLY PART OF THE BASE WHICH WAS ROTTEN. NOW MY CAR IS JUNK AND I WONT EVEN TAKE OR RESELL MY CAR. NISSAN AUTOBODY SAYS IT WILL COST ME 1200 PER SIDE TOTALING $2400 TO FIX THE FLOOR BOARDS WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED A WHILE AGO!! I NOW HAVE NO VEHICLE TO DRIVE AND IM SCARED OF DRIVING IT ANYMORE. AND DO NOT WANT TO INVEST $2400 DOLLARS ON SOMETHING THAT IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE, ITS A STRUCTURAL ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED!!! *TR
I WAS BACKING INTO A SPACE IN A GARAGE AND THE CAR JUST SPEED BACKWARDS ON ITS OWN AT HIGH SPEED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WHERE THE CAR SEEMED TO GO ON ITS OWN. LAST YEAR IT WENT FORWARD AND I COULD NOT STOP IT RIGHT AWAY. THIS HAPPENED IN THE SAME GARAGE. LUCKILY IT FINALLY STOPPED AND I DID NOT HIT ANOTHER CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LIFTED THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. THE ENTIRE WARNING PANEL ILLUMINATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED OR MEDICAL ATTENTION REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
WENT TO GO START THE CAR, PUSHED IN CLUTCH AS NORMAL, STARTED FINE, BUT WHEN I WENT TO GO PUT THE CAR IN GEAR, IT WOULDN'T GO. I LIFTED THE CLUTCH AND IT WAS STUCK ON THE FLOOR. I HAD TO MANUALLY LIFT IT UP WITH MY HAND. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN IT WAS FINE. THEN WHEN I AM DRIVING IT DOES NOT GO UP ALL THE WAY IT DROPS ABOUT 2 INCHES AND STAYS WHICH GRINDS THE CLUTCH AND CAUSES PREMATURE WEAR! *TR
FLOOR PANS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH ON FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDES. YOU CAN SEE THE CARPETING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR AND ITS NOT EVEN TEN YEARS OLD. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA FOR MY SON IN MARCH OF 2008 BECAUSE HE WAS LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 12,561 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME AND WE REALLY GOT A GOOD DEAL ON THE CAR. MY SON HAS BEEN THE ONLY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE FROM THE FIRST DAY WE BOUGHT IT, AND NOW HE USES IT AT SCHOOL DOWN IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR FOR HIM AND HE IS REALLY HAPPY WITH IT. HE TAKES EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF THE CAR, MAKING NECESSARY REPAIRS AS THEY COME UP ALONG WITH THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. WITH ONLY 75,522 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WE FIGURED THE CAR WOULD PROBABLY LAST AT LEAST ANOTHER 50,000 MILES IF NOT MORE. WELL, IT WOULD LAST THAT LONG IF THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE VEHICLE WEREN'T LITERALLY FALLING OUT FROM UNDER HIM. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING, ROTTED OUT FLOOR BOARDS DUE TO RUST! I NOW HAVE TO TAKE MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS TO TRY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE NISSAN WON'T STEP UP AND ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR FAULTY WORKMANSHIP. WE WERE HOPING THIS CAR WOULD LAST ANOTHER 2 YEARS UNTIL MY SON IS DONE WITH COLLEGE BUT I DON'T THINK WE'RE GOING TO BE SO LUCKY. HE IS ALREADY EXPERIENCING A HOLE IN THE FLOOR BOARD UNDER HIS RIGHT HEEL UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. RIGHT NISSAN, THIS ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE AT ALL!!! WHAT ABOUT IF HIS ENTIRE LEG GOES THROUGH THE FLOOR BOARD WHILE HE'S DRIVING....DO YOU THINK THAT MIGHT BE AN ISSUE??? WE MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE AND WE KNOW THAT IT WILL LAST ANOTHER 2 YEARS BUT WITH THIS FLOOR BOARD RUSTING PROBLEM IT MAY FORCE US TO BUY MY SON ANOTHER VEHICLE A LOT SOONER THAN WE REALLY ANTICIPATED DOING. THE CAR STOPPED THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS WERE BAD.AND THE RATTLE IN MY PASSENGER SIDE CANT FIND THE PROBLEM. *TR
2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE RUST DAMAGE TO THE FLOOR PAN. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PAN HAD A HOLE MEASURING APPROXIMATELY 12 INCHES BY 18 INCHES. IT APPEARED THE RUST ORIGINATED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT. THE RUST DAMAGE WAS DIRECTLY BELOW THE PASSENGER SEAT EXTENDING 18 INCHES FORWARD. *JB
MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2005 WOULDN'T PASS INSPECTION DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE FEET AREA. I WAS ABLE TO FIX THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT NOW THE DRIVER SIDE IS EVEN WORSE AND CAUSING LOTS IN DAMAGES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. IN ADDITION, THE BATTERY AND THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND THE VIAS SWIRL CONTROL VALVES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING).THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,500.
I BROUGHT MY CAR TO MY PERSONAL MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND A YEARLY INSPECTION. WHILE DOING THE INSPECTION THE MECHANIC TOOK NOTICE OF THE SEVERE RUSTING OF THE FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS. HE SAID THAT IT PASSED INSPECTION AND THAT SOMETHING WILL HAVE TO BE DONE ABOUT THE RUST DAMAGE SOON BEFORE IT GETS WORSE AND I END UP PUTTING MY FOOT THROUGH IT. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME I LIVE IN A 4 SEASON STATE AND THAT IT IS NORMAL DO TO SALT EROSION. I HAVE HAD A GARAGE KEPT VEHICLE AND I AM CONSTANTLY CLEANING THE CAR DURING THE WINTER BECAUSE I KNOW SALT EATS CARS. HERE I AM 2 MONTHS LATER AND I SEE THE OUT CRY OF OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS ON THE TODAY SHOW. HOW CAN THEY BE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS. I PLAN TO GET A NEW CAR WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR SO IN ORDER TO SELL THIS ONE I WILL HAVE TO SPEND THE MONEY TO FIX IT BECAUSE NO USED CAR BUYER WOULD WANT TO BUY IT IN THIS STATE. WHY IS NISSAN NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES? I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN.
DURING 2ND WEEK OF FEBRUARY,2015, THE BRAKE PEDAL GOT STUCK. AFTER SOME STRUGGLE, THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THE AIR TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 0 DEGREE F. I CALLED ONE OF THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERS AND DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO CRUD OR ICE BUILT UP IN THE BRAKES. ON THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN 20'S. WE GOT THE CAR WASHED TO GET ANY CRUD OR ICE REMOVED FROM THE BRAKES. ON 2/20/2015, THE BRAKE PEDAL GOT STUCK AGAIN. THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN AFTER SOME STRUGGLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BOOSTER HOSE WITH VALVE. NOTE: THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR WITH THE NISSAN DEALER WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM.

ON A RECENT TRIP FOR OIL CHANGE I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT A SPOT OF RUST ON THE REAR QUARTER PANEL. THEY SAID A BRACKET WAS RUSTING THAT HOLDS THE REAR QUARTER PANEL ON. THE REAL PROBLEM, THEY POINTED OUT WAS THE SEVERE RUST UNDER THE FRONT FLOORBOARDS, BOTH PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S SIDE. I WAS HOPING TO GET ABOUT 6,000 FOR THE CAR TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A NEW ONE. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT IT IS VERY UPSETTING TO KNOW THAT IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I SAW A TV NEWS STORY ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS HAVING RUSTED OUT FLOORBOARDS. I CHECKED UNDERNEATH MY NISSAN ALTIMA AND THE FLOORBOARD IS RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT WHERE THERE IS A HOLE IN IT. YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGER IN IT AND CHIP AWAY THE METAL IN THE FLOORBOARD. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RUST MUST BE REMOVED AND A METAL PLATE MUST BE WELDED TO REPAIR THE HOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE BOTTOM OF MY DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR PANEL IS RUSTED THROUGH TO THE GROUND. UNDERNEATH THE CARPET, JUST BEHIND THE GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL, THE FLOOR METAL IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. NO SHEETMETAL REMAINS IN SOME AREAS, ALLOWING FOR DIRECT ACCESS TO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ANYONE SEATED THERE. THIS IS A ONE-OWNER VEHICLE, WHICH HAD AUTO ARMOR UNDERBODY PROTECTANT APPLIED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE AND IS WASHED REGULARLY, ESPECIALLY DURING SALT MONTHS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, IT APPEARS TO HAVE SHIFTING ISSUES THAT ARE KNOWN TO NISSAN. NISSAN NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. HARD SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND AT INITIAL START UP. ALSO HAVE SHIFTING ISSUES FROM 3RD TO 4TH. THE SHIFTING FROM 3/4 IS WHEN VEHICLE IS AT OPERATING TEMPS. THERE IS A VERY HARD SHIFT AND DELAY IN SHIFT. FIRST THING I NOTICED THE RUSTING OF THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH THE SCREW BOLTS HOLDING DOWN THE DRIVER SEAT TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED, MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THAT SCREW BOLT SNAPS OR PULL AWAY FROM THE FLOOR BOARD THERE COULD POSSIBLY BE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHILE MAKING A TURN AND THE SEAT SLIPS OUT OF PLACE WHILE TURNING. I QUESTIONED THIS AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THIS PAST DECEMBER 2014 WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE 61,000 MILE CHECK UP. THEN I ALSO WAS TOLD THAT MY STEERING HAD CONTAMINATION IN IT, WHICH FROM JANUARY OF 2005 NISSAN IS THE ONLY COMPANY THAT PERFORMS MAINTENANCE ON MY CAR. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING UNDERNEATH MY CAR. I HAD ASSUMED IT WAS A BRANCH OR SOMETHING AS SIMPLE. I ASKED A COUPLE OF CO-WORKERS IF THEY WOULDN'T MIND CHECKING IT OUT FOR ME. BOTH TOLD ME IT WAS A PIECE OF METAL HANGING BELOW THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE AUTO BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS PUT ON A LIFT TO BE INSPECTED. I ALSO LOOKED AT THE CAR ALONG WITH THE SHOP'S OWNER AND OTHER MECHANIC. THE PASSENGER FLOORBOARD HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH TO THE INTERIOR, A HOLE LARGE ENOUGH TO PUT ONE'S FOOT THROUGH IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE CARPETING. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS EXAMINED THEN THE BODY. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OF RUST ON THIS VEHICLE WHATSOEVER. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS MODEL FOR THE EXACT SAME TYPE SITUATION. *TR
VEHICLE DIED WHILE COASTING DOWN THE SIDE STREET. ONCE I STOPPED THE VEHICLE I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY TO OFF. WHEN TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WOULD CRACK, BUT WOULD NOT START. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN LISTED FOR A RECALL FOR THE 2.5 ENGINE BUT NOT FOR MY 3.5 ENGINE, AND NISSAN WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP THE SITUATION. *TR

THEY STATED THAT MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN FOR SERVICE AND IS OLD THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT BE OFFERING ME ANY ASSISTANCE. EXPLAINED THAT MY B/F IS A MECHANIC AND HAS BEEN THE ONE MAINTAINING THIS CAR AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE THEM WITH ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS, BUT NISSAN DIDN'T CARE. CONTINUED TO TELL ME THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS OLD THEY WOULD NOT BE OFFERING ASSISTANCE. I LET HIM KNOW THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT PEOPLE WERE HAVING LUCK GETTING NISSAN TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND HE SAID HE WOULDN'T CONFIRM THAT WHICH IS WHEN HE POINTED OUT MY SERVICE RECORDS AT A CERTIFIED NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I ASKED HIM IF THAT IS WHY NISSAN WOULDN'T COVER THE REPAIRS - B/C I HADN'T GIVEN NISSAN ALL MY HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS - THERE WAS SILENCE ON THE OTHER END. FOR A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPANY THEY SURE NEED TO WORK ON THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT CUSTOMERS. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND IT APPEARS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA'S.
