TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD JUST RECEIVED AN OIL CHANGE BY HER PERSONAL MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,100.

THE CONTACT HOWEVER FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE HAD THE SAME DEFECT AS THAT LISTED PER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 90,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V223000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,005 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 129,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,100.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,700.

WHEN MY PARENTS FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR THE RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT WOULD BE SHAKING AT THAT TIME THE CAR HAD 52,000 MILES ON IT RIGHT AFTER WE BOUGHT IT ON APRIL 10TH 2012 FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AT THAT TIME THEY CHECKED IT AND THE CAR HAS 117,000 MILES NOW AND SOMETIMES THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SHAKE AND VIBRATING WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT 55 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR SO I THINK NISSAN NEEDS TO DO A RECALL IT TO CHECK THE PROBLEM OUT. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER FLOORBOARD RUSTED THROUGH, WITH A HOLE APPROXIMATELY 4"X8" IN SIZE. I BOUGHT THE CAR WHEN IT WAS A YEAR OLD AND IT HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND STILL LOOKS NEW INSIDE AND OUT. IT IS UNDERCOATED, AND HAS NO OTHER CORRESPONDING CORROSION. THE RUST IS NOT COMING FROM UNDERNEATH, NOR FROM A LEAK IN THE INTERIOR (THE CARPETS ARE DRY), BUT FROM BETWEEN THE TWO SHEET METAL PARTS THAT MAKE UP THE FLOOR. AS A MECHANIC, I KNOW THERE IS NO FORM OF MAINTENANCE THAT COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS RUST FROM OCCURRING. AS A SAFETY ISSUE, MY STATE WILL FAIL THIS CAR FOR INSPECTION BECAUSE EXHAUST FUMES CAN ENTER THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR WITHOUT THE OCCUPANTS KNOWLEDGE, AND THE FLOOR COULD CONTINUE RUSTING, COMPROMISING THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MOUNTINGS. *JS
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH IN HIGHWAY, THERE WAS A BRIEF SPEED INTERRUPTION WITHOUT WARNING. THEN SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED A FAILURE WITH THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENS ONLY ON HIGHWAY SPEED. *TR
THE FLOORBOARDS ON MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA ARE RUSTED OUT. I'VE BEEN INFORMED BY MY BODY SHOP THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR. APPARENTLY THE FLOORBOARDS RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME TO BUY A NEW CAR AND OFFERED EMPLOYEE PRICING. THEY TOOK NO CREDIT FOR THE PROBLEM. FLOOR PANS ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER ARE RUSTED WITH LARGE PERFORATION HOLES INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. DO NOT KNOW IF VEHICLE IS SAFE TO OPERATE SINCE WATER VISIBLY ENTER THE CAR WHEN IT RAINS, AND NISSAN CANNOT ASSURE THAT THE SEAT ATTACHED TO THE CAR ARE NOT COMPROMISED BY THE RUSTING. *JS

MULTI-POINT INSPECTION, POWER STEERING SYSTEM FLUSH, AUTO TRANSMISSION FLUID SERVICE, AND PREMIUM FUEL SERVICE COMPLETED 03/27/2012. THE ENGINE DIED WHILE DRIVING ON 4/11/2012. ON 4/12/2012, DEALER SAYS LOSS OF COMPRESSION, AND SUGGESTED AN ENGINE REBUILD. *TR

I WAS TOLD IN 2012 BY MY CAR MAINTENANCE SHO, THAT MY CAR HAD A RUST HOLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. NOW, 3 YEARS LATER IT HAS GROWN QUITE LARGE. I WAS TOLD I HAVE TO GET IT REPAIRED BEFORE I HAVE MY CAR INSPECTED IN MARCH OF 2016. THIS IS QUITE A PROBLEM FOR ME SINCE I AM RETIRED AN LIVING ON A FIXED INCOME. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA, THAT IS CONSTANTLY 5-7 MPH OFF. I AM GETTING CONCERNED BECAUSE THIS IS A HAZARD AS I HAVE BEEN ASKED BY THE LOCAL CITY POLICE FOR ME TO PICK UP MY SPEED A LITTLE AS I AM RESTRAINING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC BY DRIVING AT OR BELOW WHAT I BELIEVE IS THE SPEED LIMIT. ALSO, I AM REALLY CONCERNED SINCE THE FACTORY TELLS YOU TO USE A CERTAIN SIZE OF TIRE, WITH ME USING THEIR RECOMMENDATION, THIS WILL CAUSE THE WHEELS TO SPIN FASTER THAN WHAT I AM ACTUALLY REALLY GOING, THUS SAYING I AM TRAVELING FARTHER (MILEAGE) THAN WHAT I TRULY AM. THIS, I BELIEVE IS EFFECTING MY GAS MILEAGE AS MY TIRES ARE HAVING TO SPIN FASTER THAN WHAT IS NEEDED AND THUS CAUSING ME TO USE MORE FUEL. ABNORMAL ENGINE NOISE HAS BEEN APPARENT SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2011. I ESPECIALLY NOTICE IT AT START UP AND IT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY HARDER TO START ON FIRST TRY. INDEPENDENT SERVICE SHOP CONFIRMED THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER NEEDS REPLACED.
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 11/28/11 AS I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 93, NEW HAMPSHIRE. THE CAR SUDDENLY CUT OUT ON POWER AND JERKED THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT BELKNAP TIRE IN LACONIA, NH AND THEY RESET THE CODE FOR THE CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR, REPLACED THE AIR FILTER AND PERFORMED ROUTINE SERVICE ON MY CAR. ON 12/3/11 I WAS DRIVING AGAIN ON INTERSTATE 93 AND THE CAR AGAIN CUT OUT ON POWER, JERKED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON. THE CODE WAS CHECKED AND IT IS AGAIN THE CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR. I THEN WENT ON THE NISSAN WEBSITE AND THERE WAS A CAMPAIGN FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE - CAMPAIGN #07V527000. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TALK WITH [XXX], A NISSAN SERVICE PHONE REP, WHO ADVISED THAT MY CAR VIN WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS CAMPAIGN. I INQUIRED WHY IT WASN'T AS IT IS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS THE RECALL AND HE SAID THAT IT DOES NOT EFFECT ALL NISSANS. THIS IS AN UNSAFE DRIVING ISSUE FOR ME AND OBVIOUSLY THERE HAS BEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMAS YET MY 2006 IS NOT CONSIDERED ONE OF THEM. NISSAN WILL NOT COVER THIS AND SAID I COULD APPLY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE BUT THERE IS NOT ANY RECALL RELIEF TO GET THIS CORRECTED. THERE IS AN EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE CAR, FIRST REPORTED WHEN CAR WAS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD: 1. FLEX CONNECTOR BETWEEN CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY RUSTED 2. FLOOR RUST UNDER DRIVER SEAT FIRST DEFECT REPORTED TO NISSAN AND LOCAL DEALER WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE - NISSAN CASE [XXX]. SECOND DEFECT JUST DISCOVERED AND IS VERY COMMON FOR 2005-2006 ALTIMAS - JUST SEARCH INTERNET, BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. IN ANY CARS 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH NO ACCIDENTS AND WITH LESS THAN 27000 MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE DEFECTS. THIS 2006 NISAAN ALTIMA IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME MALFUNCTIONS AS IN PREVIOUS RECALLS. THE CRANK SENSOR IS CAUSING THE CAR TO ABRUPTLY STOP RUNNING IF DRIVEN AT LOW SPEED. INCIDENT ALMOST OCCURRED ON PA TURNPIKE DURING AM RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND FINALLY STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA IN MID-DAY. I HAD TO PUT CAUTION LIGHTS ON IMMEDIATELY AND HOPE THAT I DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE RE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. IT IS SUCH A MAJOR CONCERN AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION ONCE AGAIN I SEE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE SPEED SENSOR AND THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

SEVERAL 2005 AND 2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS SE-RS (INCLUDING MINE) HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE CLUTCH PEDAL GETTING STUCK ON THE FLOOR UNABLE TO COME BACK UP AND NOT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS. CLUTCH CONTINUED WITH ISSUE VERY INTERMITTENLY. UPON ARRIVAL TO SAN DIEGO CA, I DECIDED TO TAKE TO MOSSY NISSAN (NATIONAL CITY). I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. I WAS REFFERED TO NISSAN 1 FOR ASSISTANCE. NISSAN COVERED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CLUTCH. IT HAS THEN BEEN ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AND ISSUE PERSISTS. UNDER NHTSA ID NUMBER 07V527000. ON 07/20/11 I HAD A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COME ON. CAR WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY, SO WE TOOK IT TO KEN GANLEY NISSAN FOR SERVICE. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT APPEARED ON NHTSA ID 07V52700 FOR THE 2.5 ENGINE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE DEALER STATED THIS VEHICLE WAS NO ON THE RECALL LIST. SINCE THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE THAT WAS TO BE RECALLED, WHY WAS I CHARGED $315.22 FOR REPAIRS? IT APPEARS TO ME THAT NISSAN DID NOT TAKE CARE OF ALL THE RECALLED VEHICLES, BUT PICKED AND CHOSE ONLY CERTAIN ONES TO REDUCE THEIR EXPENSES. IT DISTORTS THE PURPOSE OF A RECALL PROCESS. 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA CAUGHT ON FIRE, JUNE 8, 2011. MY SON WAS DRIVING FROM WORK TO HOME ON THE HIGHWAY AND ORANGE SPARKS WAS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR, SO HE PULLED OVER ON THE MEDIAN. WHEN HE PROCEEDED TO LIFT UP THE HOOD OF THE CAR, BLACK SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM THE HOOD AND HE AND OTHER DRIVERS CALLED 911. ACCORDING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, OIL AND OTHER FLUIDS WERE COMING FROM THE CAR DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON FIRE. MY SON IS OK, BUT I CAN NOT GET ANY HELP WITH THIS CAR. I HAVE A BURNED CAR SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND CAN NOT DRIVE IT EVERYTHING UNDERNEATH THE HOOD IS MELTED. I STILL OWE ON THIS CAR. NEED HELP! I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 8 MONTHS. *KB

MY CAR HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PULLING SINCE LAST YEAR. I FAMILY MEMBER INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM SOUNDED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING BAD AND THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND PAID FOR A DIAGMOSTIC INPSECTION. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP REPORTED NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE (WHICH I HAD TO HAVE REPLACED WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW) AND REPORTED NO PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED IN THE FRONT. I GOT THE ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF AND THE PROBLEM STILLS OCCURS WITH MY CAR AND IT STILL JERKS/PULLS WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE AND AM ON THE ROAD. I THINK THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IS BEING TRUTHFUL AND HONEST ABOUT THE SITUATION. WHEN I WAS THERE ONE OF THE SALES REPS ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO TRADE MY CAR IN. I COULD HEAR THE OTHER SALESPERSON/MECHANIC TALK TO ANOTHER PERSON ABOUT MY CAR AND POSSIBLE OPEN RECALLS, BUT NEVER ADDRESSED THIS WITH ME. I CONTACTED THE 1800 NUMBER REGARDING A RECALL ON MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS STILL A RECALL OPEN AND I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. THE REP TOLD ME TO TAKE MY CARE IN AND GET IT CHECKED AGAIN. WHEN I CONTACTED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THE PERSON WAS SHORT PATIENCE WITH ME AND TOLD ME THAT I DID NOT NEED TO GET IT CHECKED BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY REPLACED IN 2006. I FEEL LIKE I AM DRIVING A CAR THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK DOWN OR FALL APART WHILE I AM DRIVING. I HAVE PUT SEVERAL TIRES ON MY CAR AND IT SEEMS LIKE I STILL HEAR A STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM THE WHEELS EVEN WHEN I HAVE PLACED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKES ON THE FRONT AND BACK WHEELS.

THEN AT 81,300 MI I WAS DRIVING 30MPH WHEN MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. I WAS TOLD AGAIN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD GONE AND IN TURN TAKEN OUT THE EGO SENSOR AS WELL. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,000.
