ALTIMA 2006 W/ 3.5L ENGINE/ AUTO TRANS. CAR WAS MAKING A LOUD ROAR TYPE NOISE HEARD AT IDLE FROM INSIDE THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE AT THE DEALER TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THE NIGHT BEFORE IT WENT IN FOR SERVICE, THE CAR GOT STUCK IN 5TH GEAR WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT AND STALLED. CAR WAS RESTARTED AND PROCEEDED TO STAY IN 5TH GEAR. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY OVERNIGHT AND WAS OK DRIVING TO THE SERVICE CENTER. WE PICKED UP THE CAR AND IT WAS "FIXED". WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A BAD FUEL PULSAR THING. THE NOISE WENT AWAY, HOWEVER THE STALLING AND GEAR STICKING DID NOT. THE CAR WENT BACK IN AND THIS TIME THEY TOLD US IT WAS A BAD CAMSHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE MGR THAT THE CAMSHAFT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION. HE INSISTED THIS WAS THE PROBLEM AND THE CAR WAS "FIXED" ONCE AGAIN. GUESS WHAT, THE CAR STALLED AND STUCK IN 5TH GEAR THAT EVENING. BACK TO THE SHOP !!... THIS TIME ON A TOW TRUCK. I TOLD THEM TO KEEP THE CAR AS LONG AS NEEDED UNTIL IT IS FIXED. THEY TELL US THAT THE CAR IS "FIXED" ONCE AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAY THE ENTIRE COMPUTER IS NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I'LL PICK UP THE CAR ON MONDAY. LETS SEE IF IT IS "FIXED" NOW. I GUESS I SHOULD BE HAPPY TO NOT BE STUCK WITH A 2.5L OIL BURNER- FIRE TRAP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. ON MAY 25, 2008, WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WAS NO STEERING POWER OR BRAKING ABILITY. IN ORDER TO AVOID CRASHING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE CONTACT PULLED INTO A NEARBY ALLEY AND CLIPPED THE FRONT END OF A PARKED VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A POLE. SHE CALLED THE POLICE AND HER INSURANCE AGENT TO REPORT THE CRASH, AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED $9,000 WORTH OF DAMAGES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT FOR FIVE DAYS BECAUSE THE SERVICE CENTER AT THE DEALER WAS CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAY. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY, THEY KEPT IT FOR 32 DAYS. IN APRIL OF 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR, BUT THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIRS HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO RESCAN THE ENGINE COMPUTER AT THE COST OF $119. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT WITH A SAFETY CONCERN IN MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM SANTA MONICA NISSAN ON 07/29/06. SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. THE CAR HESITATES AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROADS, FREEWAYS AND HILLY ROADS, AND SKIDS WHILE TAKING TURNS. I AM VERY SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE OF THE SLOWED DOWN MOTION DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC HOURS. IT IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE TO BE DRIVING A CAR THAT HESITATES WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO CATCH UP TO THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC & SKIDS, MAKING A LOUD SCREECHY SOUND WHEN TRYING TO TURN. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE MANUFACTURER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT EACH TIME THEY SEND ME BACK SAYING THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY ARE NEGLECTING THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF RESOLVING IT. NO REASONABLE CONCLUSION HAS BEEN REACHED AS YET. I AM LOOKING FOR NISSAN TO BUY THE CAR BACK BEFORE THERE ARE ANY INJURIES TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. NISSAN HAS FAILED TO RESOLVE MY ISSUES. THE TRANSMISSION(STANDARD)WILL JUST DROP OUT OF 5TH GEAR INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS. THERE ARE 10,800 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SL. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION HAS DISENGAGED I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING FREEWAY SPEEDS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL IS SET CAUSING A QUICK RISE IN THE RPMS-WHICH IS NOT GOOD FOR ANY ENGINE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT SAW AN ALERT ON THE TELEVISION IN JANUARY OF 2008 THAT THE 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMA'S HAVE A DEFECT WITH THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT LOCATE ANY FAILURE. ON MARCH 20, 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS SAME FAILURE. SHE IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE LENGTH OF TIME IT TOOK TO BE INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE VIN AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,700.
I BOUGHT MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2.4S SPECIAL EDITION PACKAGE IN DECEMBER 2006. I WAS GOING BACK FROM MY OFFICE TO HOME FOR LUNCH AND JUST NEAR MY OFFICE WHEN I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE "CORPORATE DRIVE" TO TAKE A RIGHT TURN ON TO "TENNYSON PKWY", THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT ON THE RIGHT CURB AND IT WAS REALLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE CAR MOVED SO QUICKLY FROM THE RIGHT CURB TO LEFT CURB (CORPORATE DRIVE WAS A TWO LANE STREET DEAD END TO TENNYSON), I BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. THIS 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA CAR NEEDS TO BE CHECKED FOR SAFETY, IT LEAD TO LOS OF CONTROL. I HAVE REGISTERED THE COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN AS WELL FOR MY CAR THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS NOT IN RECALL LIST AT "THAT" TIME FOR THE NHTSA# 06V-046. HOW MANY CARS THEY ARE WAITING TO CAUSE SIMILAR INCIDENTS BEFORE THEY ISSUE RECALL ? *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT CALLED REGARDING A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IT HAD BEEN BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL 06V223000 FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SENSOR WAS CHANGED, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO CONSUME EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL IF THE FAILURE CONTINUED THE MANUFACTURER WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS CONSIDERED NORMAL PER NISSAN SPECS AND WILL NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS TO INDICATE THE OILWAS LOW. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7500.*AK
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SHE PURCHASED. CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A RECALL FOR ENGINE FIRE IN WHICH NISSAN PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. *MC *JB
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA CUSTOMER RECEIVED RECALL LETTER AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO GET CAR FIX AND CAN'T LET THE CAR SIT AND PAY CAR NOTE AND INSURANCE**CC THE CONSUMER STATED A NEW ENGINE WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO A RECALL. THREE WEEKS LATER, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND THE SPEED DECREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND THE CONSUMER WAS LATER INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER RETURNED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND UPON INSPECTION THEY STATED THE WIRING HARNESS WAS UNPLUGGED. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL 06V223000 , AND SHE DID NOT T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE NOTICE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD POSSIBLY CATCH ON FIRE. SHE DIDN'T CARE WHAT WAS FIXED ON THE VEHICLE. THE OWNER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MARCH 2006 ,AND WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL IN APRIL 2006. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE NOTICE DUE TO THE VIN. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE ON 2/23/07 THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. ON DECEMBER 18, 2006, THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE # 06V223000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HE HAS TAKEN HIS VEHICLE TO NISSAN SEVEN TO EIGHT TIMES, BUT THE VEHICLE IS STILL LEAKING OIL EVERY 500 MILES. NISSAN'S CORPORATE OFFICE STATED THAT THIS IS A MINOR ISSUE AND WOULD CONTACT HIM WITHIN 48 HOURS. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE ECM TWICE AND STATED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL AND HAPPENS CONSTANTLY. NISSAN HAS YET TO CONTACT HIM OR OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT HAS ALL OF THE REPAIR WORK ORDERS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 6,800 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,938. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT ORIGINAL RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED WITHOUT SATISFACTION BY NORTHBAY NISSAN. THE CURRENT DEALER HAS REFERRED THE CONSUMER BACK TO ORIGINAL SALES DEALER VALLEJO NISSAN FOR FURTHER TESTING. UPDATED 06/14/07 *TR
PURCHASED NEW 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA IN JANUARY 2007. TOOK CAR BACK WITHIN 2 WEEKS TO DEALERSHIP DUE TO STEERING , PULLING TO THE LEFT, ALWAYS CORRECTING THE STEERING & SWAYING FELT IN THE REAR DURING HIGHWAYS SPEEDS OF 100 KM. DEALERSHIP CHECK & COMPLETED FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT ROAD TESTED & SAID CAR WAS FINE. TOOK CAR BACK WITHIN 3 DAYS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, THE TECH WENT FOR A ROAD TEST WITH ME AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH STEERING, THAT IT WAS NORMAL. STEERING CONTINUES TO PULL , THIS SEEMS TO BE PROBLEM THAT MOSTLY LIKEY WE BE IDENTIFIED ONCE A ACCIDENT HAPPENS.
I OWN A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. I HAVE AN AFTERMARKET GPS SYSTEM THAT I USE IN THE CAR. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE SPEED GAUGED BY THE GPS HAS A VARIANCE FROM WHAT SHOWS ON THE SPEEDOMETER. FOR INSTANCE, IF I AM TRAVELING 40 MPH AND HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO THAT SPEED, THE GPS SHOWS THAT I AM ACTUALLY TRAVELING 36 MPH. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO DEVICES GROWS AS MY SPEED INCREASES. *NM
I HAVE A 2006 ALTIMA SE-6 WITH A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. DURING HOT WEATHER OF AFTER THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FOR EXTENDED TIMES, THE CLUTCH WILL MAKE A HOWLING SOUND ACCOMPANIED WITH A SHUTTERING WHEN RELEASED TO PULL OFF FROM A FULL STOP. THIS EVENT WILL ALSO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL UNLESS EXCESSIVE REVOLUTIONS (OVER 3000 RPM) ARE APPLIED DURING RELEASE. IN TRAFFIC OR ON A HILL, THIS HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS. TOOK CAR TO A COUPLE OF DEALERSHIPS; ALL OF WHOM CLAIM INABILITY TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE OCTOBER 2007. THIS ISSUE ONLY APPEARS WHEN THE DRIVE TRAIN IS WARMED UP; HOWEVER, IT PRETTY MUCH OCCURS EACH AND EVERY TIME WHEN THE TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS ARE MET. *CN

TL * - THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER IN CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA FOR NHTSA RECALLCAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V223000 REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE DEALER WAS GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A NEW ENGINE. THE CONTACT TOLD THE DEALER THAT HE WANTED PROOF THAT IT WOULD BE A NEW ENGINE, AND DEALER URGED HIM TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT WILL BE A BRAND NEW ENGINE. WHEN CONTACT ASKED FOR PROOF THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT WOULDN'T BE A NEW ENGINE, INSTEAD IT WOULD BE A REFURBISHED ENGINE. *AK
2006 ALTIMA 2.5 S THAT IS A LEMON CUSTOMER WANTS TO HAVE THE CAR REPLACED UNDER THE LEMON LAW**CC THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS NO START PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WOULD START UP WHEN SHE BEGAN HER DAY, BUT AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES. THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE UNDER THE GAS PEDAL WHILE ACCELERATING AS WELL AS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE DEALER STATED THE VIBRATION/GRINDING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE TIRES. ALL THE WINDOWS AND DOORS WILL LOCK AND THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK. THE CD PLAYER AND RADIO ARE NOT PLAYING PROPERLY. THE RADIO HAS A LOT OF STATIC. THE CD PLAYER MAKES THE CD'S SOUND LIKE THEY ARE SCRATCHED. *JB
MY NISSAN ALTIMA SE 2006 HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE GAS CAP IS SO TIGHT THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE IT OFF WITHOUT HURTING YOURSELF. MOST OF THE TIME I NEED TO GET THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT TO REMOVE IT AND HE ALSO HAS A HARD TIME. ON SUNDAY I TRIED TO GET SOME GAS AND THE GAS CAP WOULDN'T COME OFF AT ALL. MONDAY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT BECAUSE OF THE PLASTIC AND SPRING DESIGN THEY HAVE A TENDENCY OF BRAKING AND YET THEY REPLACED WITH THE SAME TYPE OF GAS CAP. TODAY I TRIED TO REFUEL AND AGAIN I COULDN'T GET THE GAS CAP OFF AND HAD TO GO BACK IN TO A DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALER. WHY NOT JUST CHANGE THE DESIGN SO THAT IT DOESN'T BRAKE? *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT CHANGED THE OIL HIMSELF ON THE 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. HE FIRST CHANGED THE OIL AT 500 MILES ,AND AT THAT TIME 4 1/2 QUARTS CAME OUT THAT IS THE AMOUNT OF OIL HE PUT IN. THE CONTACT S CHANGED THE OIL AGAIN AT 3750 ONLY 3 QUARTS CAME OUT. HE KNEW THAT HE PUT 4 1/2 QUARTS IN THE FIRST TIME. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THEY WOULD SEND THE OIL TO THEIR LAB ORATORYFOR ANALYSIS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A LETTER, WHICH STATED THAT AFTER THEIR ANALYSIS, THEY FOUND THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NORMAL. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THIS TO BE NORMAL. BEFORE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE DEALER TOLD HIM THE ENGINE HAD BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. *AK
WE PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA (NEW, NEVER OWNED) ON JANUARY 10, 2007. THE VEHICLE HAS DEFECTS AND HAS BEEN BOUGHT TO THE DEALER (NISSAN OF GARDEN CITY IN HEMPSTEAD,NEW YORK) ON FOUR OCCASIONS;1/25/07, 2/1/02, 2/5/07, AND 2/14/07. WE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ON 1/17/07. FILE NUMBER 5593141. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE IS SLOW IN PROVIDING RESPONSE AND OTHER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES REFUSE TO PROVIDE NAME OR CONTACT INFORMATION OF MANAGERIAL STAFF. THEIR SINGLE MEANS OF COMMUNICATION IS THROUGH E-MAIL. THEIR ACTUAL POLICY IS TO WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE RETURNING PHONE CALLS. I WAS ADVISED THIS BY ONE OF THEIR SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES AT THEIR "800" NUMBER. *NM
I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATING RECENTLY. I GOT MY REAR ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED AT THE MANUFACTURE AND THOUGHT THIS WOULD CURE THE PROBLEM, THEN WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO GET MY FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS DONE TO PREVENT THE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I JUST GOT MY ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED IN THE CAR 9 MONTHS AGO. I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THE TRANSMISSION IS ABOUT TO PLAY OUT. MY CAR HAS BEEN JERKING WHEN I DRIVE. IT APPEARS TO BE "PULLING". I ASKED THE MANUFACTURE ABOUT THIS AND THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP REPORTED NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION. I CALLED NISSAN MAIN OFFICE REGARDING THE RE-CALL AND THE REP JUST TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ONLY ONE RECALL ON MY CAR, WHEN I SAW 4 ONLINE REGARDING THE MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR OF MY CAR. HOW DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH CARS HAVE A RECALL OR PROBLEM UNLESS THEY ARE REPORTED? *JS
WHEN TRYING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE PUMP CONTINUES TO SHUT OFF. CAR TAKEN IN FOR REPAIRS, AND I WAS TOLD I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO PUT FUEL IN THE CAR. TAKEN A SECOND TIME, AND THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR. FIXED THE PROBLEM AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS. CAR WAS HAVING SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AFTER 1 MONTH. *AK

IF THE CAR GOES IN LIMP MODE THE ENGINE RPMS WILL NOT EXCEED 1800 RPMS, THIS RESTRICTION WILL PREVENT THE CAR FROM TRAVELING MORE THAN 25 MPH. IF THE VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE WHILE TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS ARE PUT INTO A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I RECEIVED A LETTER ASKING ME TO BRING MY CAR FOR THE ENGINE RECALL ON MY '06 NISSAN ALTIMA. UNFORTUNATELY MY VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED, IF I DIDN'T PROCEED WITH THE RECALL REQUEST MY VEHICLE COULD LEAD TO AN ENGINE FIRE. [HOW COME I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY MAIL NOTIFICATION?] I BROUGHT MY CAR IN NOVEMBER/ 2006. THUS, I CALLED AND BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER [WONDRIES NISSAN]. THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSURED ME THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD RUN A SERIES OF TEST AND IT SHOULDN'T TAKE LONGER THAN A DAY TO FINISH. AS A RESULT I BROUGHT MY CAR IN ON A MONDAY MORNING, AND GUESS WHAT? IT'S STILL THERE. IT'S BEEN THREE DAYS. END OF THE FIRST DAY, HE TOLD ME IT'S A HUGE RECALL AND A LOT OF TEST NEEDS TO BE RUN. 2006 ALTIMA HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. *TS TWO WEEKS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE CONSUMER WAS NOTIFIED THAT HER VEHICLE'S ENGINE WAS IDENTIFIED AS HAVING AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. IN THE WINTER WHEN THE CAR IS NOT MOVING (SUCH AS AT A RED LIGHT) COLD AIR BLOWS IN THE CAR, NOT HEAT. I HAVE EXPERIENCED RATTLING NOISES WITH MY CAR. IT CAN BE HEARD WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN AS IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2011 TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I GOT THE CAR FIXED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE NOISE CONTINUED. EACH YEAR I HAVE GOTTEN MY ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED IN THE FRONT AND REAR. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS NORMAL. I HAVE HAD MY CAR 5.5 YEARS WITH 79K MILES. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR ON THE CLUTCH WAS ON 01/15/07. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WITH THE FLYWHEEL, AND ALL OF THE HYDRAULIC AND HOSE SYSTEMS. PURCHASED NEW 2006 ALTIMA IN APRIL 2006. CAR HAS ABOUT 3500 MILES ON IT NOW. CHECKED OIL LEVEL AGAIN THE OTHER DAY AND IT WAS BARELY ON DIP STICK AND WHAT WAS THERE WAS BLACK. CALLED NISSAN, THEY WERE NO HELP. THEY SAID TO BRING CAR IN EVERY 700 MILES. THAT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE ANSWER TO A NEW CAR OWNER. THE DEALER WAS OF NO HELP EITHER. THE REAR SUSPENSION HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING THE WHEEL WILL SCRAPE AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL. YOU CAN'T FIT MORE THE TWO PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THE TWO FRONT EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS DON'T PROVIDE ADEQUATE LIGHTING TO EVEN SEE THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. ITS EXTREMELY LOW/DENSE LIGHTING EVEN AFTER CHANGING OUT THE BULBS. THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH TO START THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM. I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY, WAIT, TURN IT AGAIN, WAIT FOR THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO COME ON, THEN FINALLY THE CAR WILL START. THE POWER TRAIN GEAR CONTROL IS ANOTHER WAITING GAME. TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, I FIRST HAVE TO SLOWLY SHIFT THOUGH EACH GEAR BEFORE FINALLY PUTTING INTO DRIVE. ONCE I DO PUT IT INTO DRIVE THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JOLT FORWARD BEFORE I'M ABLE TO START DRIVING THE CAR. I RECENTLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED CAUSE IT JUST STOPPED WHILE IN MOTION AND STRUGGLED TO START UP AGAIN. IT FINALLY DID, BUT IT COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 1ST GEAR. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR HOME. ALSO, FEW YRS BACK I HAD THE HEAD GASKET REPLACED CAUSE THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WOULD ALSO NOT START UP AGAIN IF I HAD JUST TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. IT NEEDED TIME TO COOL OFF BEFORE RESTARTING FOR ME. AND AS OF THIS MOMENT, THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN. THIS TIME IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. WHILE IT'S IDLING, IT'S MAKING A VERY LOUD CLUNKING SOUND. IT'S JUST NEVER ENDING WITH THIS CAR. I KNOW THERE WERE MANY RECALLS ON THE ENGINE, EXTERIOR LIGHTING AND REAR SUSPENSION BUT I NEVER GOT THE NOTICES.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ON MY NEW 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARCH 2006, RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE INFORMING ME TO CHECK OIL EVERY 700 MILES DUE TO A DEFECT. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE OIL ONLY TO FIND MY ENGINE CONTAINED NO OIL. BROUGHT TO NISSAN DEALER WHO REFILLED ENGINE. CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK 4 TIMES FOR LOW OIL. NISSAN CORPORATION HAS NOT HELPED AND SEVERAL OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE ACCORDING TO NEWS REPORTS. NISSAN HAS NOT CONTACTED ME SINCE APRIL WHEN THEY SENT NOTICE TELLING ME THAT A FIX WOULD BE IN AND I WOULD BE CONTACTED WITHIN 60 DAYS. IT IS DANGEROUS TO THE THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS WHO HAS PURCHASED THESE VEHICLES TO BE DRIVING THEM LONG DISTANCES. I DRIVE SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES A MONTH WITH WORK AND AM BEING INCONVENIENCED DUE TO THIS ALONG WITH PUTTING MY SAFETY AT RISK. *JB
TO EVERYONE OUT THERE THAT IS HAVING TROUBLE WITH NISSAN USA REPLACING YOUR FAULTY 2.5L ALTIMA ENGINE AND HAVE RECEIVED THE "OIL CONSUMPTION" LETTER...GET IN-TOUCH WITH THE BBB AUTO SECTION. THEY WERE AWESOME WITH HANDLING MY CASE...RECEIVED MY NEW ENGINE TWO DAYS AGO...HASSLE FREE. OF COURSE THIS WAS AFTER TRYING TO WORK A DEAL WITH NISSAN USA CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE FOR MORE THAN TWO MONTHS. THE BBB DID IT IN FIVE DAYS AFTER RECEIVING MY PACKAGE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS, SMOKE CAME FROM THE FRONT END, BELOW THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, AND BRIEF FLAMES ERUPTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE HOOD WAS OPENED TO REVEAL THE BATTERY HAD EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER TESTED AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. THERE WAS NO DETERMINATION MADE AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION.
VEHICLE IS PART OF THE NISSAN CAMPAIGN #06V223000. CHECKED ENGINE OIL AND WAS FOUND TO BE TWO QUARTS LOW. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND WE ARE NEEDING TO CHECK THE ENGINE OIL ONCE A WEEK TO VERIFY IT IS OK AND TAKE IT TO DEALER TO HAVE IT FILLED. IN THIS CASE, AFTER ADDING TWO QUARTS OF OIL, THE DEALER FORGOT TO PUT THE CAP BACK ON AND AFTER A DAY OF DRIVING (120 MILES), ALL THE OIL WAS GONE AND THE ENGINE WAS DRY. LUCKILY WE NOTICED IT AND DROVE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO NISSAN TO GET OIL AND FILL IT UP BEFORE DRIVING IT. *JB
I OWN A NISSAN ALTIMA 2006 BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. IT HAS NOW BEEN 2 TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH MOST RECENTLY YESTERDAY WHERE THEY DETECTED TRANSMISSION FAILURE... IT WAS FIXED , YET IN THE MIDDLE OF MY HECTIC DAILY COMMUTE TO WORK IT STOPS GAINING SPEED CAUSING MAJOR TRAFFIC BACKUP I'M JUST LUCKY NO ONE CRASHED IN TO ME! *JB
