TL* - THE CONTACT LEARNED THAT THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON 2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS AND SHE HAS NOT RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL. THE CONTACT SAID THAT THERE IS BLACK MUD IN THE MOTOR. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT IF SHE KEEPS DRIVING THE CAR SHE WILL RUIN THE MOTOR AND THAT IT WOULD COST $1600. TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM.
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA IN MARCH 2006. IT'S NOW AUGUST 2006, AND I AM EXPERIENCING AN OIL LEAK. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IT WAS LEAKING AT THE SEAL. NOW MY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER FELL IN THE RANGE OF THE 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA RECALL. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT NISSAN CORPORATE TOLD HIM JUST TO REPLACE THE SEAL. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT RESPONSE. I WAS NEVER OFFERED A NEW MOTOR. I BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN THEY ARE PLAYING ME FOR DUMB. I HAVE ALSO BEEN DEALING WITH SQUEALING BRAKES THAT I HAVE REPORTED TO THE TECHNICIAN WHICH HE KEEPS DISMISSING AS THE HOT WEATHER. *JB
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS SOLD TO CONSUMER WHILE ON HOLD FOR A RECALL. CONSUMER WANTED TO EXCHANGE THE VEHICLE FOR A PROBLEM FREE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER BUT THEY HAVE NOT RETURN THE CONSUMER'S CALL. *KB *NM
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 SPECIAL EDITION HAD OIL LEAK FROM THE SEAL IN THE MOTOR. BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING. *KB THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. *JB
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA ENGINE CONSUMED TO MUCH OIL CAUSING ENGINE TO BE REPLACED TWICE. *KB THE NEW ENGINE HAS STARTED MAKING A TICKING NOISE. THE DEALER IS CONSIDERING INSTALLING A THIRD ENGINE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT REQUIRED CONSTANT OIL LEVEL CHECKS AND ADDITIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE AND ENDEAVORING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND HAD SENT TWO SEPARATE UPDATES ABOUT THE ONGOING INVESTIGATION TO FIND A SOLUTION.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 75 MPH ON A HIGHWAY AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE, CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND SPUN SIDEWAYS. WHEN THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT WAS FACING THE TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND THEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN MADE WITH THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE ON 7/31/06. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WHILE AT A GAS STATION. UPON INSPECTION, OIL WAS DISCOVERED ON THE ENGINE DUE TO THE OIL CAP FALLING OFF. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THIS OCCURRED HOWEVER IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE CAP WAS NOT ON TIGHT ENOUGH.
I PURCHASE 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM EASTERN CAROLINA NISSAN IN MAY 2006. I HAVE BEEN HEARING A RATTLING NOISE 1 WEEK AFTER PURCHASE. I NOTIFIED NISSAN AND THEY STATED THAT IS WAS SPARK KNOCKING BUT WHEN I CONTACTED THEM TO INQUIRE ON SERVICE REPORT, NOT NOTED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON/OFF DURING DRIVING. THE DOORS LOCK WHEN KEYS ARE IN AND CAR IS STARTED/OFF. *NM
I HAD HEARD FROM OTHERS THAT NISSAN HAD ISSUED A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALER, GAVE THEM MY VIN, AND IT WAS CONFIRMED. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK THE OIL, ADD OIL IF NEEDED, AND THAT MY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY HAD BEEN EXTENDED TO 100,000 MILES. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT NISSAN WOULD CONTACT ME AND LET ME KNOW WHAT THEY PLANNED TO DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. TODAY I CALLED TO THE DEALER AGAIN TO GET "100,000" MILE WARRANTY EXTENSION INFORMATION SENT TO ME IN WRITING. I WAS THEN TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO COME FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I THEN CALLED THE NUMBER I WAS GIVEN AND WAS FORWARDED AROUND AND LEFT ON HOLD. I SAW ONLINE THAT CUSTOMERS HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF A RECALL OVER A MONTH AGO. I'VE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION FROM NISSAN. THIS HAS BEEN A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT OPTIONS I HAVE?? *NM
ENROUTE TO TUCSON AZ ON INTERSTATE 10, MY VEHICLE, A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SE, BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. I HEARD A SOUND THAT I THOUGHT WAS A BLOWOUT IN ONE OF MY TIRES AS I ATTEMPTED TO GUIDE THE VEHICLE TO THE MEDIAN. UPON JUST BARELY ENTERING THE MEDIAN, I CHECKED MY TIRES AND DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT A BLOWOUT. I NOTICED ANOTHER DRIVER PULLED INTO THE MEDIAN ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE WAS CHECKING HER VEHICLE FOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT. I CROSSED OVER AND SHE INFORMED ME THAT SHE OBSERVED SMOKE & FIRE EMITTING FROM MY VEHICLE BEFORE UNDETERMINED "PARTS OF MY VEHICLE" STRUCK HERS. I DID SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF SMOKE AND A FLOW OF BLACK FLUID TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I CALLED AAA OF ARIZONA AND WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN TUCSON. MY 2006 NISSSAN ALTIMA HAS 16800 MILES ON IT AND IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. UPON ARRIVING AT MY HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 7:00 PM, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ADVISING ME THAT THE INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THE AUTO TECHNICIAN WHO HAD PERFORMED MY PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE NOT REINSTALLING THE OIL PLUG SECURELY AFTER THE OIL CHANGE AND THEY, NISSAN, HAD CONCLUSIVE PROOF THAT WAS THE CASE. I CONTACTED JIFFY LUBE WHO WILL BE SENDING A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE VERACITY OF THE NISSAN CLAIM. SUBSEQUENTLY, I LEARNED OF RECALL 06V223000 AFFECTING 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA VEHICLES.THE RECALL IS FOR EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE PISTON RINGS. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, I HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY NISSAN NOR WAS I AWARE OF THE RECALL. AS MY OIL CHANGE AT JIFFY LUBE OCCURRED IN MAY AND I HAD NOT NOTICED ANY LEAKING OIL, I AM SKEPTICAL OF NISSAN'S EFFORTS TO POINT THE BLAME AT JIFFY LUBE WHEN IT APPEARS EXTREMELY LIKELY MY NEAR ACCIDENT WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY THE SOURCE OF RECALL 06V223000. I KNOW THAT ONLY DIVINE PROVIDENCE SAVED ME FROM BEING STRUCK BY TRAFFIC BEHIND ME ON A ROAD WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 75MPH. CAUSING IMPROPER
THE 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA, BOTH 2.5E & 3.5E HAVE A SIGNIFICANT DESIGN FLAW REGARDING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT & ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO SIMULTANEOUSLY DEPRESS BOTH PEDALS! MY NIECE HAD A NASTY ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS AND I MYSELF ALMOST DID. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *NM
POWER TRAIN CLUTCH ASSEMBLY/ PEDAL/ LINKAGE I RECENTLY BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SER IN 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR ONLY 3 MONTHS, I LOST TOTAL ACCELERATION RESPONSE. DRIVING THE CAR FROM A DEAD STOP TO 60 MPH TOOK NEARLY A MILE, I WAS SO AFRAID THE CAR WOULDN'T MAKE IT OVER A BRIDGE. DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS A NIGHTMARE, I WAS SO SCARED WHILE ACCELERATED THAT ANYONE DOING THE SPEED LIMIT WOULD CRASH INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR. THE DEALER TOOK 2-3 DAYS JUST TO INFORM ME MY CLUTCH WENT BAD. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH FOR $1000 AND THE FLYWHEEL FOR $500 BOTH NOT UNDER WARRANTY. MIND YOU THE $30,000.00 DOLLAR CAR IS ONLY 3-4 MONTHS OLD WITH A 10 YEAR/100K WARRANTY. I HAVE HEARD MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PREAMBLES, I FEEL NISSAN NEEDS TO ORDER A RECALL ON NISSAN CLUTCHES. *JB
THERE WAS A RECALL SENT TO ME STATING THAT THE CAR HAS A HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION RATE AND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS OF ENGINE FIRES. HOWEVER, THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN PHYSICALLY RECALLED. I HAD BEEN HEARING THE BRAKES SQUEAL AND SCRUB AFTER 3 WEEKS OF HAVING THE CAR, HAVE ONLY HAD 2 MONTHS, FINALLY 2 MONTHS LATER IT WAS FOUND THAT ALL 4 CALIPERS WERE LEAKING. THE PARTS THAT WERE NEEDED WERE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE PARTS WERE SHIPPED IN AND THE BRAKE PADS, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THIS WAS A WEEK AGO, CURRENTLY I AM HAVING MORE TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKE AREA. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. LATER WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED TO REPLACE THE AIR BAG SENSORS. HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR AND ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 21, 2006. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THIS INCIDENT AS A SAFETY PROBLEM THEREFORE A REQUEST WAS MADE FOR A RENTAL CAR UNTIL THE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE. THE REQUEST FOR A RENTAL CAR WAS DENIED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
CAR IS USING TOO MUCH OIL. I UNDERSTAND FROM ARTICLES THAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT CERTAIN NISSAN 2006 2.5 ENGINES HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND THAT MY VIN NUMBER FALLS WITHIN THE RANGE. NISSAN HAS NOT NOTIFIED ME AS THEIR CAMPAIGN NUMBER 06V223000 INDICATES, AND I RECEIVE DIFFERENT STORIES WHEN I CALL THEIR 800 NUMBER FOR INFORMATION. IT'S A FAILURE, POTENTIAL INJURY, AND POTENTIAL FIRE WAITING TO HAPPEN. I SHOULD NOT NEED TO CHECK THE OIL EVERY COUPLE HUNDRED MILES AND WOULD LIKE NISSAN'S OFFICIAL RECOMMENDATION ON WHAT I SHOULD DO, BUT NO ONE IS WILLING TO PUT ANYTHING IN WRITING. WHEN I BRING THE CAR IN TO BE CHECKED, THEY REFUSE TO GIVE ME ANY WRITTEN INDICATION THAT I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN TO THEM EITHER. I AM CURRENTLY DOWN A QUART OF OIL WITH ONLY 1500 MILES ON THE CAR. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, IT ROLLED FORWARD TO THE SIDEWALK. ON TWO OCCASIONS, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, IT ROLLED FORWARD TOWARDS THE SIDEWALK. THE CONTACT USED BOTH THE FOOT BRAKE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO FINALLY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO THE DEALER. ON TWELVE OCCASIONS, WHEN THE FLOOR CLUTCH WAS PRESSED, IT BECAME STUCK. SHE HAD TO MANUALLY WORK THE CLUTCH BACK TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. ON THREE OCCASIONS, WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 1-20 MPH, THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF. ON TWO OCCASIONS, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED ON ITS OWN. ON ONE OCCASION, SHE HAD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A JUMP START. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER FROM ROLLING FORWARD INTO THE SIDEWALK. IN JANUARY OF 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A LETTER FROM NISSAN CONCERNING HER VEHICLE NOT HAVING ABS; HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION SHE RECEIVED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED STATED THAT IT DID HAVE ABS. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,650 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,286.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH ON NORMAL RESIDENTIAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE SKIDDED CRASHING INTO A MAILBOX. A POLICE REPORT WAS PROCESSED AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, THE VEHICLE HAD INCIDENCES OF SKIDDING ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS.
I WAS INFORMED THAT I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING ON A RECALL ENGINE AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW THE PROBLEM WILL BE ADDRESSED. I JUST PURCHASED THIS 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA NOT EVEN 2 MONTHS AGO AND ALREADY THERE IS A RECALL ON THE MOTOR IN REGARDS TO OIL CONSUMPTION. HOWEVER NISSAN WANTS TO ENSURE THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS BEING MAINTAINED AT A CORRECT LEVEL IN WHICH I WAS INFORMED THAT I NEEDED TO GO TO THE DEALER EVERY 700 MILES. WHY???? DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH OF AN INCONVENIENCE THAT IS TO INDIVIDUALS. GIVE ME A BREAK. THIS PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE ENGINE WHICH IS BEING EXPLAINED THAT IT HAS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN??? HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO PUT OUR LIVES ON HOLD FOR NISSAN. THIS IS A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPANY AND THEY HAVE SOLD 85,000 DEFECTIVE UNITS. WHY SHOULD I PAY A CAR NOTE ON A VEHICLE THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND NO ACTION IS BEING TAKEN TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I FEEL MORE COMMUNICATION IS NEEDED ASAP. PLEASE ADVISE. *NM
I PURCHASED MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R AROUND 4/18/2008 WITH AROUND 34,000 MILES. A FEW DAYS LATER, I NOTICED THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS STICKING DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND WOULDN'T COME BACK UP. BEFORE I COULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, THE CAR CLUTCH GAVE UP ON ME AND HAD TO GET IT TOW TO THE DEALER. DEALER THEN REPLACE THE CLUTCH ($1000) AFTER A FEW DAYS, THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS STILL STICKING TO THE FLOOR, SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR A FEW HOURS AND THEN CALLED ME TO SAY IT WAS DONE (FIX) AFTER THAT, THE CAR WAS FINE FOR A WHILE. A MONTH AGO, AROUND 5/15/2010, CLUTCH PEDAL STARTED TO STICK TO THE FLOOR AGAIN AND WOULDN'T COME UP. I CALLED A MECHANIC AND HE EXPLAINED TO ME OVER THE PHONE THAT MOST LIKELY IT'S THE MASTER CYLINDER OR SLAVE THAT WENT OUT AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA, WHICH HE LEASED ON MAY 29, 2006. THE VEHICLE HAD EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION SINCE SHORTLY AFTER HE LEASED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAS BEEN TRYING TO LEARN WHEN NISSAN KNEW THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND WHY HE WAS NOT INFORMED BEFORE LEASING THIS VEHICLE. NISSAN HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE FREE OF CHARGE, BUT WILL NOT TELL THE CONTACT WHEN THEY KNEW OF RECALL 06V223000 PRIOR TO HIS LEASING THE VEHICLE. SINCE SEPTEMBER THE CONTACT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TWICE TO HAVE OIL REPLACED. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A LETTER WAS RECEIVED FROM THE MANUFACTURER WAS RECEIVED CONCERNING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND RISK OF POSSIBLE FIRE. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER THERE IS CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL RISK. THE MANUFACTURER HAS PUT A HOLD ON THE SALE OF NEW ALTIMA'S WITH A 2.5 LITER ENGINE PENDING THEIR INVESTIGATION OF THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM. UPDATED 07/07/06. *JB
AROUND 6 MONTHS AFTER THE LEASE OF MY VEHICLE I NOTICED A HOLE ON THE FLOOR, AND ANY TIME I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM NOTHING WAS EVER DONE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY CAR. THEREFORE, MY PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR AND A HALF AND THE HOLE HAS GOTTEN BIGGER. I MAY ONE DAY DIE IN THAT CAR DUE TO THE HEEL OF MY SHOE GETTING STUCK IN THAT HOLE, BECAUSE I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET MY FOOT OUT FROM IT IN TIME TO BRAKE, OR MY FOOT MAY GET CAUGHT IN THERE.*AK
PURCHASED 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA LAST DAY OF APRIL. SINCE THEN THE FOLLOWING HAS OCCURRED....1. FIVE DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASED DATE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO START 2. SINCE THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM ANY DETAILING SERVICE ON THE DATE OF PURCHASE IT WAS AGREED I COULD BRING IT BACK AT A LATER DATE. ON 20 MAY DURING DETAILING SERVICE A 6" STRIP OF PAINT PEELED OFF THE FRONT BUMPER. BUMPER WAS SENT TO LOCAL PAINT SHOP IN DAPHNE AL. FOR REPAIR...ASK THE DEALERSHIP FOR PAPERWORK ON THE RE-PAINT, TO DATE HAVE NOT RECEIVED PAPERWORK. 3. NOW THE FIRST OF TWO REAL SERIOUS CONCERNS. STEERING / HANDLING AT SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH IS UNSAFE WITH ANY MEASURABLE WIND. THE CAR W/O CONSIDERABLE CORRECTION VEERS FROM LANE TO LANE. I DRIVE APPROX. 120 MILES PER DAY 5 DAYS A WEEK. TO DATE MY CAR HAS 2700 MILES DURING THE FIRST OIL CHECK AT APPROX. 1000 MILES I NOTICED THE OIL LEVEL WAS APPROX. ONE QUART LOW BUT WAS NOT CONCERNED DUE TO NOT KNOWING FOR SURE HOW MUCH OIL WAS PRESENT DURING PURCHASE....ADDED 1 QRT AND HAD NOT CHECKED THE LEVEL AGAIN UNTIL I RECEIVED THE LETTER...1700 MILES TOTAL....DURING THIS SECOND OIL LEVEL CHECK THE OIL LEVEL ON THE DIP STICK WAS FOUND JUST BELOW THE ADD MARK. NO LIGHT INDICATOR HAD COME ON THE CONTROL PANEL...HAD I NOT RECEIVED THE LETTER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN T 2000 MORE MILES BEFORE MY FIRST SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE WAS DUE AND WOULD NOT HAVE CHECKED IT PRIOR TO THAT POINT....THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN TO MY FAMILY AND I. I PURCHASED A NEW NISSAN ALTIMA APR 16 2006. ON JUNE 15 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM NISSAN NTH AMERICA SAYING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH ALTIMAS - THEY WERE LOSING OIL TOO FAST. I CHECKED MY OIL AND WITH 2950 MILES IT WAS EMPTY. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALER, WHO SAID THE OIL WAS BLACK, THE ENGINE WAS NO GOOD, AND IT NEEDS A NEW MOTOR. I DON'T WANT A NEW MOTOR, I DON'T WANT THEM TO FIX THE CAR. I WANT MY MONEY BACK. THE LETTER STATED THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE A FIRE IF UNCHECKED. THE DEALER HAS SINCE REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A 3 MONTH PERIOD OF PRODUCTION OF THESE CARS THAT ARE AFFECTED. THEREFORE, THIS ACTION WARRANTS THAT THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF THE NISSAN ALTIMA!!! SINCE SHOPPING FOR A CAR, WE LOOKED AT THE NISSAN AND TOYOTA PRODUCTS BEING THAT OUR FAMILY HAS BEEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR INDUSTRY FOR OVER 30 YEARS; WE FELT THAT WE WOULD BE GETTING THE BEST CAR FOR OUR MONEY BEING THAT WE USUALLY KEEP OUR CARS FOR SEVERAL YEARS BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!!!!! NISSAN HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THIS BY: CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER, PROMISING TO MONITOR THE LEVEL - SUBJECT TO ANOTHER TRIP TO THE DEALER- AT 700 SUBSEQUENT MILES, THEY WILL THEN PROVIDE AN UNKNOWN 'FIX' TO THE ISSUE IF THE OIL LEVEL HAS DECREASED TO THEIR SATISFACTION, IF NO NOTICEABLE DECREASE IN THEIR PERCEPTION, THEN MONITOR ANOTHER 700 MILES - RETURN TO DEALER AGAIN AND HAVE THEM REVIEW, POSSIBLE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AT THAT TIME. THE CONCERN IS THAT WHEN ONE PURCHASES A NEW VEHICLE, IF THE MANUFACTURE KNEW OF THE DEFECT AND POTENTIAL HAZARD, THEN THE SALE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED. NISSAN HAS NOT REPAIRED OR REPLACED THE HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION ENGINE RECALL SINCE RECEIVING RECALL NOTIFICATION IN JUNE 2006. NISSAN HAS EVEN TAKEN THE RECALL OFF THE WEBSITE HOWEVER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED IT BECAUSE THERE ARE CARS ON THE LOT WITH REPLACED ENGINES. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. ENGINE OIL IS VERY ESSENTIAL TO THE CAR AND SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED AS A MINOR RECALL. I WAS TOLD THE PISTON RINGS ARE DEFECTED AND SHOULD HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED. HAVE YET TO HAVE NISSAN HONOR THIS REQUEST. *NM
I PICKED UP MY NEW NISSAN ALTIMA ON THE EVENING OF MAY 31. I WAS GOING TO BUY A USED CAR BUT THE DEALER CONVINCED ME THAT I WOULD NEVER HAVE ANY PROBLEMS IF I LEASED IT NEW INSTEAD OF BUYING A USED VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY I FIND THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AND POSSIBLY ENGINE FIRES. THE PROBLEM IS SO BAD THAT NISSAN HAS STOPPED SELLING THIS VEHICLE 24 HOURS AFTER I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE. I QUESTIONED THE DEALER WHO SWEARS HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY PROBLEMS. THIS MUST BE A LIE. I WAS NOT PERMITTED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE. I CHECKED MY OIL AFTER 580 MILES DRIVEN AND IT IS ALREADY DOWN TWO QUARTS. THE DEALER MUST HAVE KNOWN OF REPORTED PROBLEMS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE CRUSING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF. THE DASH LIGHTS STARTED TO GET DIM SECONDS BEFORE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ROLLED TO A STOP. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHEN PARKED, ALTHOUGH IT WAS ONLY ABLE TO BE SHIFTED INTO PARK AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE STARTED UP NORMALLY AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED DURING THE AFTERNOON DURING DAMP ROAD CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 05/26/06 WHICH DETERMINED THAT THE CONTACT WAS PUTTING BAD GAS INTO THE VEHICLE. THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 06/09/06 AND 06/17/06 WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING AT 45 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.*AK
PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA ON 04/04/06 WITH 267 MILES ON THE CAR. WE NOTICED A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE, WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO DEALER AT 2700 MILES (05/22/06) & TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM, WHILE WE WERE THERE WE HAD THEM GO AHEAD & CHANGE THE OIL. THEY CHANGED THE OIL FIRST, THEN THEY COULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE (DUH !) THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, THAT ONLY THE HOOD BRACKET WAS SLIGHTLY LOOSE. I EXPLAINED THAT THE BRACKET WAS LOOSE BECAUSE I HAD LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. I INSISTED THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF PROBLEM. THEY SAID IF YOU HEAR IT AGAIN BRING IT BACK AND WE CAN DRIVE THE VEHICLE TOGETHER. 3-4 WEEKS LATER WE STARTED HEARING THE NOISE AGAIN, & RECEIVED THE LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM NISSAN. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AT 5993 & WE WERE TOLD WE WERE INDEED PART OF THE RECALL AND TO BRING THE CAR BACK EVERY 700 MILES (ARE THEY SERIOUS ?) I PLACED SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS & SPOKE TO LESLIE THE GATEKEEPER. SHE WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ANSWERS EITHER. AS OF LATE, WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT EVERYONE ELSE IS IN. CAN NOT GET ANY CLEAR ANSWERS. THERE ARE OPTIONS PEOPLE.....DO NOT LET THIS MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY FOOL YOU... ON 5/20/2006, I PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE WAITING FOR THE PAPERWORK TO BE COMPLETED, MY HUSBAND NOTICED A BOARD ON THE WALL FOR A CONTEST. OUR SALESPERSON TOLD US THEN THAT NISSAN WAS HAVING A DEALER CONTEST FOR ALTIMA'S. AT THE SAME TIME, NISSAN WAS VERY HEAVILY ADVERTISING ON TV A "SPECIAL" LEASE PRICE FOR THE ATLIMA'S. 2 WEEKS LATER, BEFORE RECEIVING ANY LETTER FROM NISSAN, A COLLEAGUE SENT ME THE LINK FOR THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, SO THAT I COULD READ THE ARTICLE ABOUT NISSAN ALTIMA'S BEING PULLED FROM THE MARKET BECAUSE OF OIL PROBLEMS, WHICH WERE POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS. I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT I WAS DEFRAUDED BY NISSAN (AND PERHAPS THE DEALER) BY THIS SALE. NO ONE CAN MAKE ME BELIEVE THAT NISSAN DIDN'T DO THIS CONTEST ON PURPOSE IN ORDER TO MOVE AS MANY CARS AS POSSIBLE OFF THE DEALER LOTS. THE 200+ INCIDENCES OF OIL PROBLEMS AND THE LESSER INCIDENCES OF FIRES DID NOT ALL OCCUR WITHIN THE TWO WEEKS BETWEEN THE TIME I BOUGHT MY CAR AND SALES WERE HALTED. I HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE OCCURRENCE WHERE I HAD TO ADD OIL. I THEN HAD TO WAIT 4 DAYS FOR THE DEALER TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THE CAR. IRONICALLY, WHEN THE CAR WAS RETURNED THE PAPERWORK DID NOT SHOW ANY RECORD OF MY ADDING OIL (EVEN THOUGH I TOLD 3 SEPARATE PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP). IT DID SAY THAT THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE TO ADD OIL. I DRIVE THIS CAR EVERY DAY BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. TO MATTERS WORSE, I ALSO TRANSPORT MY HUSBAND, WHO IS RECOVERING FROM A 5-ORGAN TRANSPLANT, TO HIS DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS TWICE A WEEK, WHICH ARE OVER AN HOUR AWAY. SHOULD WE HAVE A FIRE, AND NEED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR QUICKLY, MY HUSBAND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO. THIS WAS MY FIRST NISSAN. IT IS MY LAST. *NM

TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS EXCESSIVELY CONSUMING OIL, SHE HAS TAKEN IT AT LEAST FIFTEEN TIMES TO THE DEALER. THE FIRST TIME SHE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR SHE HAD RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM NISSAN REGARDING THE OIL LEAK, BUT TO HER KNOWLEDGE IT WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE PROBLEM RECURRED. WHEN THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. SHE CALLED NORTH AMERICAN NISSAN ,AND THEY TOLD HER TO SEND IN HER INVOICES SO THAT THEY MIGHT HELP HER, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL EXCESSIVELY CONSUMING OIL. *AK
I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY AND PARKING MY CAR, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO PICK UP SPEED. I HIT MY FRIENDS HOUSE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO STOP THE CAR. THEIR WAS DAMAGE TO MY CAR, MY FRIENDS GARAGE, THE CAR IN THE GARAGE, A FREEZER, AND A BRICK WALL. MY CAR TOOK ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN. I FELT I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHEN I WOULD BE AT A COMPLETE STOP, AND WOULD GO TO TAKE OFF, THE CAR WOULD HESITATE, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULD TAKE OFF AT APPROXIMATELY 55-65 MILES PER HOUR. I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST SOMETHING THE CAR WAS SET UP TO DO. I FEEL THAT'S WHAT HAPPEN TO MY CAR THAT DAY. MY CAR WAS ONLY 5 MONTHS OLD. *NM
I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 ALTIMA 4/17/06. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY WHEN MY 110 LB DAUGHTER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A NEW MOTOR (IT'S A RECALLED ENGINE OIL PROBLEM CAR) AND TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY TESTED IT AND COULD FIND NO FAULT. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR I SHOWED THEM WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY DAUGHTER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THEY SAID THEY'D LOOK INTO IT WITH NISSAN. 4 WEEKS LATER THE DEALER CAN ONLY OFFER 'BRING YOUR DAUGHTER IN TO SIT IN ANOTHER NISSAN TO SEE IF WE CAN CREATE THE SAME PROBLEM'. THEY WILL NOT FIX IT UNTIL I BRING MYSELF, MY CAR AND MY DAUGHTER IN WITH THE CAR, EVEN THOUGH THEY IDENTIFY IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. MEANWHILE, MY DAUGHTER IS NOT ALLOWED IN MY CAR UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED FULLY. *NM
