I WENT OUT TO MY CAR AND ALL THE SUDDEN IT WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING ON A REGULAR OCCASION. AS I DID RESEARCH, I READ IT IS MOST LIKELY THE CRANKSHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. IT STATES IF YOUR CAR WAS RECALLED AND THE ECM WAS ADJUSTED ALREADY, THE COMPANY DOES NOT COVER THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, FROM WHAT IM READING, THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH PEOPLES VEHICLES. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSORS THAT NISSAN'S ORIGINAL ADJUSTMENT DID NOT FIX. I ALSO READ WHERE THE CAR WILL BEGIN TO STALL IN TRAFFIC POSSIBLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM COLLEGE ON PA TURNPIKE ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING AND SMOKE STARTED TO COME FROM HOOD OF CAR, SHE HEARD A LOUD POP AND HEAVY BLACK SMOKE PORED INTO CAR. SHE PROCEEDED TO MOVE OVER TO SHOULDER WHEN SHE TRIED TO BRAKE THERE WAS NO BRAKES. SPEED BUMPS IN SHOULDER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND FLAMES STARTED TO SHOOT OUT OF HOOD. SHE IMMEDIATELY LEFT VEHICLE AND WITHIN SECONDS OF LEAVING THE WHOLE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDES WERE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. CAR WAS TOTALED . I CONTACTED NISSAN 12/01/2014 BY EMAIL AND TELEPHONE IN REFERENCE TO THIS INCIDENCE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT ARM DUE TO THE AIR BAGS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,974.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD-ON INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CAUSING THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. AS A RESULT OF THE PRESSURE FROM THE AIR BAGS, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BURNS TO BOTH ARMS WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR STATE INSPECTION AND DIDN'T PASS. VEHICLE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. NOT SAFE!!!! DEALER SAID IT IS NOT COVERED (OF COARSE). QUOTED $800.00 TO REPAIR. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY SAW THIS. THIS IS THE ONLY RUST ON THE CAR. I SEE MULTIPLE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR (AND OTHER YEARS) NISSAN ALTIMA. DEALER SHOULD OF WARNED ME ABOUT THIS SINCE I TAKE THE CAR THERE EVERY YEAR FOR INSPECTION. MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA'S FLOORBOARD IS RUSTING THROUGH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT NISSAN TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR AND MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ADMITTED AS MUCH. THERE IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT CAUSES THIS PARTICULAR SPOT TO BE VULNERABLE TO RUST. THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
IN 2006 WE PURCHASED A NEW 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5, VIN#[XXX] WAS KEPT IN THE GARAGES EVER SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE CAR HAS 70,000 MILES AND LOOKS LIKE NEW. ON OCTOBER 26, 2014 MY HUSBAND WAS ROTATING TIRES WHEN HE NOTICED THAT FLOOR BOARDS ON BOTH SIDES WERE CORRODED & ROTTING. WE WERE HORRIFIED SINCE THIS CAR IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD, WELL MAINTAINED, AND GARAGE KEPT! THIS DID NOT MAKE ANY SENSE SO WE SEARCHED THE INTERNET & FOUND OUT THAT OTHER PEOPLE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE. THE HOLES IN THE FLOOR CREATE DANGER FOR THE CAR OCCUPANTS! ON OCTOBER 27, 2014 I CONTACTED NISSAN N AMERICA AT 1-800-646-7261 ?? CASE 16414850. THEY ASKED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE NISSAN AUTHORIZED DEALER??S BODY SHOP & GET AN ESTIMATE TO REPLACE ROTTEN FLOOR BOARDS. THE ESTIMATE WAS $3,334.66. I CALLED NISSAN N AMERICA REP. [XXX] AND GAVE HIM THE ESTIMATE. HE SAID THAT NISSAN WOULD COVER UP TO 50% OF THE REPAIR COST. I TOLD HIM THAT IS NOT FAIR SINCE THE PROBLEM DID NOT RESULT FROM OUR FAULT. THE FAULT IS WITH NISSAN, BECAUSE THEY USED POOR MATERIAL FOR THE FLOOR BOARDS AND THAT IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. HE SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAT HE CAN DO. I'M WRITING TO YOU AND ASKING YOU FOR HELP. WE WANT NISSAN TO COVER THE WHOLE REPAIR COST BECAUSE THE FAULT IS WITH NISSAN PRODUCT, NOT OUR MAINTENANCE. FLOORBOARDS ARE RUSTING THROUGH ON DRIVER & PASSENGER SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY IF A HOLE OPENS OR IF SOMETHING COMES THROUGH FROM THE UNDERSIDE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONCE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS AND THE AIR BAG MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE . TECH BROUGHT ME BACK TO SHOW ME THE DRIVERS FLOORBOARD WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT SAFETY HAZARDS I CAN THINK OF WITH THIS ISSUE. 1.I DO NOT FEEL LIKE HAVING MY FOOT GO THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD AND LOOSING CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE DUE TO MY FOOT BEING STUCK I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BRAKE. 2. THE FUMES AND VAPORS CAN ENTER THE VEHICLE THEREFORE INDUCING AN ASTHMA ATTACK FROM MY TWO YEAR OLD SON WHO HAS SEVERE ASTHMA. 3. IF THE RUST CONTINUES IT MAY COME TO A POINT WHERE THE EXHAUST PIPE CAN MAKE CONTACT WITH THE CARPET INITIATING A FIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE FLOORBOARD BEHIND THE FRONT TIRES WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,409.
EXTREME RUST ON THE FLOOR PANEL. FLOOR PANEL ON DRIVER'S SIDE COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THERE IS RUST UNDER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOORBOARDS. *TR
DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WENT INTO ONGOING TRAFFIC AND WAS T-BONED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH VEHICLES WERE GOING 45 MILES PER HOUR. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE FRONT AIRBAGS, NOR THE SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER DOOR CAME ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE GEAR SHIFT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE THAT WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, BLACK SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. NO FLAMES WERE VISIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PISTON HAD FRACTURED AND THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V223000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE HOOD UNLATCHED AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
I TOOK MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA TO THE DEALER AND A PRIVATE AUTO MECHANIC TO HAVE IT LOOKED OVER BEFORE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE PRIVATE MECHANIC SHOWED ME UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS ON THE LIFT AND THE ENTIRE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR IS RUSTED ALMOST THROUGH. BOTH NISSAN AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY SAID THIS REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED, IN FACT IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY POLICY IT EXPLICITLY EXCLUDES THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL BE UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS MY FEET WILL EVENTUALLY GO THROUGH THE FLOOR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHO STATED THAT THE CAM AND CRANK SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,824.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING UNRELATED REPAIRS PERFORMED, THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED CAUSING IT TO FRACTURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

REPORTED TO NISSAN IN EARLY SEPT 2014. CASE NUMBER [XXX]. FOUND WHILE I WAS DOING A BRAKE JOB WHERE CAR WAS ELEVATED WITH CAR JACK AND I NOTICED THE UNDERCOATING OF THE CAR "BUBBLING" DOWNWARD AND STARTED KNOCKING THE LOOSE MATERIAL DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARD SECTION APPROXIMATELY 8" X 12" COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH WHERE THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FLOOR MAT WAS VISIBLE. PASSENGER SIDE WAS OK. SEEMS WATER CAN WORK INTO SOME UNDER-CAR SEAMS, GET TRAPPED, LAY, AND BEGIN TO RUST OVER TIME. DESPITE ARGUMENT THAT A RUSTED THROUGH FLOORBOARD CONSTITUTES A SAFETY ISSUE, NISSAN DECLINED TO PARTICIPATE IN $480 REPAIR CITING RUST WARRANTY LIMITED TO 5 YEARS, 60,000 MILES. IT WAS NOTED THAT LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WAS WELL FAMILIAR WITH THE REPAIR (THEIR QUOTE $637.81). REPAIR DOWN AT AN INFINITI CAR DEALER BODY SHOP FOR $480.03. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA THAT I TOOK IN FOR ANY INSPECTION AND THE FLOOR BOARD ON BOTH THE DRIVE AND PASSENGER SIDES ARE RUSTING THROUGH TO THE POINT YOU CAN SEE CARPET UNDERNEATH. LOOKING AROUND ON THE INTERNET IT BECAME VERY OBVIOUS THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND A VERY BIG SAFETY CONCERN IF THE FLOOR IS JUST RUSTING OUT. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME TOO BAD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY DON'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE FLOOR OF THE CAR IS EXPOSED TO THE GROUND. THE CAR HAS SPENT THE MAJORITY OF ITS LIFE IN A GARAGE SO IT MUST BE FROM DRIVING THAT THEY PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. *TR
DRIVERS AND PASSANGERS FLOOR BOARDS ROTTED OUT. NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE AND STAND BEHIND THEIR CARS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ENTERING HIGHWAY I WENT TO SHIFT MY 06 ALTIMA 5 SPEED INTO 5TH GEAR WHEN I PRESSED THE CLUTCH PEDAL THERE WAS NO PRESSURE AND TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO INTO 5TH GEAR. I LET UP ON THE PEDAL AND IN A FEW SECONDS THE PEDAL HAD PRESSURE AGAIN. ENTER HIGHWAY AND DROVE FOR ABOUT 25 MILES AND EXITED HIGHWAY. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN NO PRESSURE IN THE PEDAL THEN PRESSURE. I WAS ABLE TO RETURN HOME BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING. I HAVE READ SOME FORUMS ON THIS ISSUE AND IT SEAMS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME PEOPLE SAY THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER AND THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. OTHER PEOPLE RECOMMEND USING A DOT 5 BRAKE FLUID WITH A HIGHER BOILING POINT.NOT SURE WHAT DIRECTION TO HEAD IN. AS A LIFE LONG MECHANIC FOR DEALERSHIPS IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE FLUID IS BOILING OUT AND CAUSING AIR POCKETS IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, THEN BLEEDING IT SELF OUT. IT WAS ONLY 77 DEGREES THIS DAY SO EXTREME TEMPS ARE NOT ALWAYS THE PROBLEM.... *TR
THE DRIVER AND PASSANGER FLOOR BOARDS ARE RUSTED. LIKE MANY OTHER 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA'S. THE HEAT IN THE CAR ALSO ONLY RUNS WARM WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. IF THE VEHICLE IS AT A STOP THE HEAT BLOWS COLD. *TR
PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD IS ROTTED THROUGH, NOTICED IT TODAY WHEN MY PASSENGER WAS IN THE CAR AND HIS FOOT DIPPED DOWN THE HOLE THAT WAS CREATED. LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND THE ONLY THING KEEPING THE PASSENGERS FOOT FROM HITTING THE PAVEMENT IS THE CARPET, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE ON A CAR, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD PHYSICALLY AND IT COULD LEAD TO FATALITIES DUE TO EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A FAIRY COMMON ISSUE WITH 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS. TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED SOON AS THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THE CARPET CAN CATCH ON FIRE BURNING THE ENITRE CAR. *TR
BASED ON WHAT MY DAUGHTER TOLD ME, ON SUNDAY 8/24 SHE WAS TRAVELING ON I-96 IN MARYLAND. SHE WAS ON THE MILLARD E. TIDINGS BRIDGE WHEN SHE HAD TO SLOW FOR AN ACCIDENT. WHILE SLOWING, HER CAR JUST SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT START. SHE WAS STUCK IN THE LEFT LANE OF I-95 ON THE BRIDGE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON WHEN SHE TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AAA WAS CALLED BUT THE POLICE HAD TO SHUT DOWN I-95 TO PUSH HER FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE RIGHT HAND SHOULDER PAST THE BRIDGE. SHE WAS TOWED TO BALTIMORE AND THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED AT A REPAIR FACILITY. THE NEXT DAY IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND REPAIRED. I RESEARCHED AND THERE IS A RECALL BY NISSAN FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM FOR OUR YEAR AND ENGINE ALTIMA. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN, THEY INDICATED OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. HUH? IT APPEARS THAT NISSAN SHOULD WIDEN THE RECALL AS THIS PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY STILL EXISTS AND IT PUTS DRIVERS IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS POSITION OF HAVING THEIR CAR AND ALL ITS FUNCTIONS SHUT DOWN AND NOT RESTART. CAN IT GET ANY MORE DANGEROUS THAN AN INTERSTATE ON A SUMMER WEEKEND? I'M LUCKY MY DAUGHTER HANDLED THE ENTIRE ORDEAL CALM AND COLLECTEDLY OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. CAN YOU GET NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE A LARGER POOL OF DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND TO EXPAND THE SCOPE OF THE RECALL? OBVIOUSLY THEY DIDN'T GET THEM ALL. *TR
I WAS PARKED AT A BUS STOP I WAS TOLD TO MOVE I TURNED CAR ON AND IT SHUT OFF I TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WORKED NEXT DAY I WAS DRIVING CAME TO A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WENT INTO THE STORE CAME BACK OUT MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START,,, THOUGHT MAYBE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CABLES OR SOMETHING,, FINALLY STARTED,, COME NEXT MORNING IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL, TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC SAID WHAT IT WAS,, ELECTRICAL PART WENT TO MY STARTER,,HE FIX IT. *TR
WHILE MY MECHANIC WAS CHECKING MY BRAKES AND OTHER THINGS HE NOTICED THAT THE FLOOR UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE ARE FULLY RUSTED. WHEN I GOT THE CALL THIS MORNING I IMMEDIATELY WENT ONLINE TO SEARCH FOR THIS. IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS (WHICH IM NOT SURPRISE). I HAVE SPOKEN TO A BODY SHOP SINCE I WORK FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY SAID THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. I ALSO SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO WORKS FOR NISSAN AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE.. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY CAR UNTIL THIS. IT WONT PASS INSPECTION WHICH I HAVE TO DO IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAD THE SAME CAR DIFFERENT YEAR WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND HE JUST ENDED UP GETTING RID OF IT. WHILE GETTING THE BRAKES REPAIRED, WE NOTICED A HUGE AREA OF RUST/ROT UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE ROT AREA IS APPROX 22 INCHES IN LENGTH AND ABOUT 10 INCHES ACROSS. OTHER THEN THE HIGH MILEAGE, THE CAR IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. THIS ISSUE MAKES ME CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGER. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC INCIDENT, BUT LAST SUMMER (AUGUST 2014) I HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON AND THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT MY FLOOR BOARD WAS BEGINNING TO RUST OUT. I NOW KNOW, THROUGH RECENT NEWS, THAT IT IS NOT JUST MY CAR, BUT MOST NISSAN ALTIMA MODELS. I ACTUALLY COMPLAINED TO THEM ABOUT IT LAST SUMMER AND OF COURSE THEY DID NOTHING. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL IF MECHANICS AND PROFESSIONALS ARE NOTICING THAT SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. I GET REGULAR CAR WASHES TO PREVENT RUST, AS I LIVE IN NORTHERN INDIANA AND SALT IS THE WAY WE FIGHT OUR SNOW PROBLEM. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR THE FLOOR BOARD TO RUST OUT. TOOK CAR TO BE INSPECTED AND VEHICLE INSPECTOR FOUND THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD AS WELL AS THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARD WERE ROTTED THROUGH. ALWAYS TOOK IMMACULATE CARE OF THE ENTIRE CAR. TRIED CONTACTING NISSAN BUT THEY DID NOT HELP; EVEN AFTER TELLING THEM THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OUT ON THE INTERNET. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN MY "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 2-3 MILES FROM MY HIGHWAY EXIT AND LESS THAN 4 MILES FROM MY APARTMENT. A MINUTE OR TWO LATER I HEARD A LOUD THUD FROM MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT. A VEHICLE CAME ALONGSIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND WAVED FOR ME TO PULL OVER, INDICATING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE OR SMOKING. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHICH HAPPENED TO ALSO WITHIN YARDS OF MY EXIT. I EXITED MY VEHICLE AND POPPED MY HOOD AS MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS SMOKING. MY ENGINE WAS ON FIRE AND PROCEEDED TO BURN AS I CALLED 911 AND A WRECKER SERVICE. IT APPEARS THAT A CONNECTING ROD WAS LIBERATED AND EXITED THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK WHILE I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS CAUSED CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND OIL VENTING FROM THE ENGINE THAT LANDED ON THE HOT SURFACES IGNITED AND BURNT THE ENGINE HARNESSES, DRIVE SHAFT BOOTS AND OTHER PLASTIC AND RUBBER COMPONENTS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. IT WAS DETERMINED BY A MECHANIC THAT THE PRE-CAT HEADER LOST CATYST MATERIAL AND WAS INGESTED INTO THE ENGINE DURING THE OVERLAP CYCLE OF THE CAM TIMING. THIS DESTROYED THE INTERNAL SURFACES OF THE PISTON CHAMBER, THUS LEADING TO OIL CONSUMPTION AND ENGINE RECIPROCATING COMPONENT FAILURE. GMC/NISSAN DEMAAGD (BATTLE CREEK, MI) WHO HAD SOLD ME THE VEHICLE USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 95,000 MILES ON IT IN AUGUST 2013 (ONLY 10 MONTHS EARLIER) WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF THE REPAIRS AND ESTIMATED $7,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE AND $3,850 FOR A USED ENGINE. I AM EXCEPTIONALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR OF THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY THE RESULT OF A DESIGN FLAW AS THE INTERNET IS FULL OF SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL, MAKE AND YEAR. *TR
DURING A ROUTINE BRAKE INSPECTION, MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT SECTIONS OF MY VEHICLE'S FLOOR APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S FEET ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CARPET/INSULATION IS EXPOSED IN SPOTS. I WAS SHOCKED TO DISCOVER THIS ISSUE AS THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 100K MILES AND HAS NO OTHER RUST OR CORROSION PROBLEMS. AFTER SOME SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT INITIATED A RECALL. AT THIS POINT I AM FACED WITH AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR ON WHAT IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO A POORLY ENGINEERED AND MANUFACTURED DESIGN. *TR
VEHICLE IN FOR ANNUAL INSPECTION - IT DID NOT PASS SECONDARY TO EXTENSIVE RUST ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS. CAR IS GARAGE KEPT YEAR ROUND AND NOT DRIVEN IN WINTER (END OF OCT - BEGINNING OF APRIL). CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS BEEN EXCELLENTLY MAINTAINED. NO OTHER ISSUES WHATSOEVER WITH VEHICLE. QUICK SEARCH ON INTERNET AND IMMEDIATELY SAW MANY IDENTICAL REPORTS INCLUDING VIDEO DOCUMENTATION. THIS IS VERY UPSETTING AND INEXCUSABLE FOR A CAR OF THIS AGE DRIVEN IN FAIR WEATHER CONDITIONS. NISSAN REALLY NEEDS TO COVER THIS DEFECT. *TR
AS I WAS FINDING A SPOT, TO PLACE MY FLOOR JACK, TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES, I NOTICED A RUST SPOT. SO I WENT UNDER THE CAR AND NOTICED THE FLOOR PANS UNDER THE FRONT SEATS ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT. THE CAR ISN'T 10 YEARS OLD YET AND BARELY HAS OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT. WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR OR SO IT MORE THAN LIKELY WONT PASS INSPECTION. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
FLOOR PANS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I CAN PUSH MY HAND TROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR AND MOVE THE CARPET INSIDE. I KNOW THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. JUST ADDING MY CAR TO THE LIST.

THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONAL. UPON RESEARCH, IT WAS DISCOVERED OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THE ISSUE COULD BE FATAL AND LEAD TO SERIOUS CRASHES AS THE FAILED PART MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STOP ABRUPTLY AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THERE HAS BEEN A NISSAN RECALL RELATED TO THE PROBLEMATIC PART. HOWEVER, THE RECALL ONLY FIXED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE BY REPROGRAMMING IT. THE RECALL DID NOT RESOLVE THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM THAT IS THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. *TR
AFTER A SERIES OF HARD RAINS AND WET DRIVING CONDITIONS, I NOTICED A WET, MUSTY SMELL IN THE CABIN INTERIOR. AFTER INSPECTING ALL DOOR AND WINDOW SEALS WITHOUT FINDING ANY LEAKS, I INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE FLOORPAN AREA BENEATH BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS WERE RUSTING THROUGH WITH OPEN HOLES IN BOTH AREAS. THIS IMMEDIATELY STRUCK ME AS A DEFECT AS THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE RUST-FREE. UPON RESEARCHING, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH 01-06 NISSAN ALTIMAS. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THEY NOTED THAT NISSAN HAS NOT TAKEN ACTION TO ADDRESS THIS DEFECT. THEY PROVIDED A ROUGH ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS AS THEY HAVE REFERRED OTHER CUSTOMERS TO BODY SHOPS FOR REPAIR (~$500-600 PER SIDE). NOT ONLY IS THIS LIKELY TO DAMAGE THE INTERIOR, BUT IT WOULD SEEM TO BE A LIKELY SAFETY HAZARD WITH THE WEAKENED FLOORPAN. I HAVE HAD MY CAR AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE INSPECTIONS, AND THIS ISSUE WAS NEVER NOTED ON THE INSPECTION. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,400.
ENGINE STALLS AT SOME TIMES, CAR SHUT OFF WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT. IT JUST DIES RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I GET TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND START IT AGAIN,HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS CRANKING. CHECKED FOR DIAGNOSIS CODES BUT DID NOT GET ANY FAULTY CODES. PUT CAR ON HOIST AND SAW THE DRIVER'S FLOOR PAN WAS RUSTED TOTALLY THROUGH. HOLE IS ABOUT 16" X 16". IT WASN'T THERE IN JANUARY OF 2014. BODY SHOP SAYS THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR NISSAN ALTIMAS. *JS
