I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK ON 6/8/16. I CAME OUT TO MY CAR AFTER WORK AND MY CAR RECOGNIZED MY KEY TO LOCK/ UNLOCK IT. MY CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. MY STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND MY BREAK WAS TIGHT. IT WAS 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND MY CAR WAS SCORCHING HOT. I HAD NO ONE TO COME PICK ME UP FOR OVER AN HOUR. I GOOGLED "09 NISSAN ALTIMA" AND DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO FINISH TYPING IT, AND THE SECOND THING THAT PULLED UP WAS "09 NISSAN ALTIMA WON'T START." APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING LOCK IN THIS MODEL CAR AND IS NOT VERY SAFE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CASES REPORTED ONLINE ABOUT THEM HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT NISSAN HAS NOT RECALLED THIS. I HAD A BEACH TRIP PLANNED TO LEAVE ON SATURDAY AND DRIVE MY CAR. IMAGINE HOW DANGEROUS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN HAD IT HAVE HAPPENED WHILE I WAS 500 MILES FROM HOME. STRANDED NO TELLING WHERE FOR HOW MANY HOURS WAITING ON A RIDE. IM ALREADY HAVING TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH IS 55 MILES FROM WHERE I LIVE, NOT TO MENTION HAVING TO PAY FOR THAT BILL TOO. THIS HAS BEEN SUCH AN INCONVENIENCE CONSIDERING IT IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE TO GET ME TO AND FROM WORK. I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAVE ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AT SOME POINT IN TIME, BUT CAME TO FIND OUT IT HAS SINCE EXPIRED. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SINCE THIS EXPIRED? I THINK THIS SHOULD NEVER EXPIRED CONSIDERING IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND PRETTY MUCH UNAVOIDABLE AT SOME POINT IN TIME. I AM COMPLETELY DISGUSTED AT NISSAN THAT THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUED A RECALL. I DIDN'T CAUSE THIS ISSUE, NOR DOES IT FALL UNDER THE NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES OF TYPICAL WEAR, TEAR, OR REPLACEMENT LIKE BATTERY, TIRES, ETC. HOW IS IT FAIR TO MAKE ME, NISSAN'S CONSUMER, PAY $1000+ DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT CAUSE? HOW CAN NISSAN KNOWING SELL A DEFECTED PART ON A CAR AND NOT TRY TO FIX IT?
NISSAN ALTIMA 2009 HAD A DEFECTIVE STEERING LOCK THAT CAUSED ME TO BE STRUCK ALONE LATE AT NIGHT ON AT CVS STORE. MY CAR WAS NOT AT ALL STARTING. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER THE NEXT DAY. I FOUND THIS ISSUE AS MANUFACTURE DEFECT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE STRUCK IN ISOLATED PLACE IN COLD. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. THIS IS EXPENSIVE. I PAID 1200 WHICH SHOULD BE BARE BY NISSAN BUT THEY HAVE IGNORED IT. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART IN THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA AND THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. BETTER TO SELL OF 2009 MODEL
DROVE 40 MILES TO A SHOPPING CENTER ONE EVENING. RETURNING TO CAR A SIGNAL ON DASHBOARD RELAYED THAT MY CAR DID NOT RECOGNIZE MY CAR KEY. CAR WOULD NOT START. NO WAY TO BYPASS THE PUSH BUTTON START. DUE TO THE LATENESS OF THE HOUR AND THE FACT WE WERE FLYING OVERSEAS THE NEXT DAY, I HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO MY HOME. MANUAL SAID IF CAR STARTED I COULD DRIVE IT HOME BUT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO DEALER FOR A SAFETY CHECK. UPON GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM I FOUND MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSANS, THUS PEOPLE NEEDING HIS SERVICES. SEEMS THAT WE REALLY SHOULD BE CALLING TOW DRIVERS TO SEE WHICH VEHICLES ARE THE LEAST TOWED.
MY CAR LEFT ME STRANDED BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE. I WENT TO START THE CAR AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL. NISSAN DOESN'T SEE THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE THIS ISSUE IS CLEARLY UNSAFE BECAUSE IT STRANDS THE DRIVER. THE CAR BECOMES IMMOBILE AND DEAD. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO PAY AT LEAVE $600 FOR THE PART PLUS ANOTHER $200-$300 FOR INSTALLATION. THE WORST PART IS THAT NISSAN WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN THEY MANUFACTURED THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL WARNING THE DRIVER THAT THE CAR WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL?!
DROVE TO WORK ON 6-4-2016. WENT OUT TO MOVE MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. LIGHTS WERE WORKING, ALARM WAS WORKING BUT CAR WOULD NOT START. I NOTICED A TINY KEY EMBLEM ON THE DASH THAT I HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE, COME TO FIND OUT IT IS THE STEERING LOCK WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL ON. CALLED NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL EXPIRED IN JULY 2015 AND IT WOULD COST ME APPROXIMATELY $900 TO FIX. I CANNOT AFFORD 900 DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY SHOULD BE FIXING FOR FREE AS IT IS A NISSAN INDUCED ISSUE AND NOTHING PERSONAL. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR ALMOST A WEEK, HAVING TO BEG RIDES FROM PEOPLE JUST SO I CAN SUPPORT MY FAMILY WITH THE (2) JOBS THAT IM WORKING.
MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WOULD NOT START FOR ME TODAY WHILE I WAS ON MY WAY TO ATLANTA. I STOPPED FOR GAS AND ONCE I HOPPED ON MY CAR, IN AN UNKNOWN LOCATION, MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY SIGNS OR ISSUE WITH MY CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT 3 YEARS AGO. AFTER WAITING FOR HOURS IN A TOWN IN WHICH WAS VERY CREEPY I'VE FINALLY FOUND OUT IT WAS MY ESCL (ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK). NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO GET MY CAR TOWED WAY BACK TO NORTH CAROLINA, I ALSO ENDED UP PAYING AN ARM AND A LEG AT NISSAN!!! COME TO FIND OUT EVERYONE WITH A 2009 ALTIMA HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS LIKE! THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THAT ENDED A YEAR AGO! I GOT NOTHING IN THE MALL FROM NISSAN REGARDING THIS SO I WAS TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THE DEFECT! THIS HAS BEEN A LIABILITY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY BEING THAT I'VE SPENT OVER $1000 GETTING THIS DONE AS WELL AS TOWING FEES! NISSAN HAS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS DEFECT OR ELSE THEIR WILL BE THOUSANDS MORE THAN END UP STRANDED WHO KNOWS WHERE BECAUSE OF NISSANS DEFECTS! AND THEIR IRRESPONSIBILITY OF THEIR PRODUCT!!
THE CAR SUDDENLY DIDNOT START AND WHEN CHECKED WITH THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE OF ELECTRONIC STERRING COLUMN LOCK FAILURE OF 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AS THE KEY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,918.
STEERING LOCK 48700-9N00B WENT OUT NO WARRANTY NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAID. WE DID NOT GET ANY INFORMATION ON THIS ISSUE. ALL THEY HAVE BEEN DOING IS GIVING US THE RUNAROUND SAID WE COULD BRING IT IN AND IT WOULD COST US $1K DOLLARS AFTER PARTS AND LABOR. THIS IS THERE ISSUE DON'T SEE HOW THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. THEY SAID THERE WAS A WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION AND THE NOISE WHILE WE DRIVE DON'T KNOW IF I WILL EVER BUY AN NISSAN AGAIN AFTER NOT RECEIVING ANY INFORMATION ON RECALLS.
CAR WON'T START. STEERING LOCK IS DEFECTIVE CAUSING IGNITION PROBLEM.
STEERING LOCK RELEASE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR ON; CAN'T START CAR. IT'S SITTING LIKE A BUMP IN MY DRIVEWAY. THANKS GOODNESS IT DIDN'T LEAVE ME STRANDED!! BUT NOW I'M CARLESS!!
ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START LEAVING ME STRANDED WITH MY FAMILY WITHOUT ANY OTHER WAY OR FORM OF STARTING MY CAR. NISSAN WILL NOT RESPOND OR FIX THE ISSUE DUE TO EXPIRED WARRANTY WITH ONLY 80K ON THE CAR.
STEERING LOCK MALFUNCTION AND NOW I'M UNABLE TO START MY CAR. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND HASN'T RECALLED AND NOW MY WARRANTY IS OVER AND I HAVE TO PAY $900 TO GET IT FIXED
THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND SO THE CAR COULD NOT BE STARTED. I NEEDED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED FOR $900 BEFORE TAXES. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE ON THE PART AND HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BUT THE EXTENSION ENDED IN 2015. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CAN DO THIS -- THE DEFECTIVE PART NEEDS TO FAIL WITHIN A CERTAIN TIMEFRAME IN ORDER FOR THEM TO MAKE IT RIGHT?
STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT DIED. NO SIGNS OF WEAR, CAR JUST DIDN'T START ON A RANDOM DAY. DEALERSHIP SPECIFICALLY SAID, "FOUND STEERING LOCK CONT- UNIT INTERNALLY OEPN...)" WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE GUY AT THE DEALERSHIP HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN, HIS RESPONSE WAS "IT CAN JUST HAPPEN OVER TIME".
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MANUFACTURER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SENSOR LOCK MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
TAKATA RECALL. MY COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA STEERING LOCK FAILURE. MY LOCK FAILURE OCCURRED ON 05-22-16. I RETURNED HOME AFTER A DAY OF SPENDING TIME WITH SOME FRIENDS. I PARKED MY CAR AND LATER THAT EVENING, I DECIDED TO GO TO THE STORE. ONCE I GOT IN THE CAR, I COULDN'T START IT. THE BRAKE WAS REALLY HARD TO PUSH AND YELLOW KEY LIGHT ILLUMINATED FROM MY DASHBOARD. THE FOB WOULD ALLOW ME TO UNLOCK AND CLOSE DOORS. THE LIGHTS WORKED, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THIS SITUATION OCCUR IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX OTHERWISE THE CAR COULD HAVE BROKEN DOWN SOMEWHERE REALLY UNSAFE. MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS FIXED FOR $939.38
PASSENGER OCCUPANT SENSOR HAS FAILED. THE AMBER PASSENGER OCCUPANT DASHBOARD LIGHT ALWAYS REMAINS ON. THIS MEANS THAT EVEN WITH THE SEAT OCCUPIED BY AN APPROPRIATE SIZED ADULT, THE LIGHT SAYS THE OCCUPANT IS NOT BEING 'SENSED'. ALSO, THE CONTROL PANEL ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A RED FLASHING AIRBAG LIGHT. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAYS THE ERROR CODE INDICATES A FAILURE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT AIRBAG SENSOR. MY COST IS AT LEAST $2400 TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT. I AM UNABLE TO PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY. I AM HOPING FOR A NISSAN RECALL OR TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THAT MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. I SEE MANY OTHER YEARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAD THE ISSUE AND THE MANUFACTURER FIXED THEM AT NO COST. THAT IS WHAT I AM HOPING FOR. THIS CAR HAS NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT. THIS JUST HAPPENED OUT OF THE BLUE.
FIRST TIME 2013 OCCURED ON FREEWAY ABOUT 3 HRS INTO DRIVE. WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AT 75 MPH THE CAR BEGAN LOOSING POWER N SPEED QUICKLY. THOUGHT CARS WERE GOING TO SLAM INTO CAR. PULLED OVER TURNED OFF N PLACED KEY IN CHARGING COMPARTMENT. 15 MINS OR SO TURNED ON N RAN FINE AFTER THAT. 2015 ON BUSY FREEWAY BEGAN LOOSING POWER N SPEED. PULLED OVER PLACED KEY AGAIN THEN WORKED FINE. 2016 ITS HAPPENED TWICE AGAIN ON FREEWAY GOING UPHILL SPEED DROPPED QUICKLY. I THOUGHT SEMI-TRUCK WAS GOING TO SLAM. SCARRED TO DEATH MANAGE TO PULL OUT AT 35 MPH FROM 75MPH. DISCONNECTED BATTERY LET SIT 15 MINS WORKED OKAY LOOSING POWER TO 60MPH. FOLLOWING DAY SAME THING BUT NOTHING HELPED TO RESET AND SPEED DROPPED AS LOW AS 20-25MPH AND HAD TO USE MANUAL FEATURE TO KEEP GOING. AUTO TRAN STOPPED FUNCTIONING. NOW TRAN WAS NOT SHIFTING. I'D HAVE TO EASE UP ON THROTTLE PUSH IT DOWN TO TRY N GET SOME POWER. VERY SCARRY WHEN ON FREWAY.
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK FAILED AFTER MY SON HAD PARKED HIS CAR AT A CONVENIENCE STORE. THIS LEFT MY SON IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH NO ACCESS TO A FUNCTIONING CAR IN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT I DO NOT CONSIDER TO BE SAFE. THE RESOLUTION WAS TO CALL AND WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE THE VEHICLE BROUGHT TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ISSUES WAS REPAIRED. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS ESCL ISSUE IS A KNOW PROBLEM FOR WHICH NISSAN INITIALLY ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN AND EXTENDED WARRANTEE FOR THAT THEY HAVE SINCE WITHDRAWN. I FEEL THIS ISSUE SHOULD RESULT N A RECALL FOR SAFETY REASONS AS IT CAN PLACE A PERSON IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO START THE CAR.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL COMPLETELY.
MY 2009 ALTIMA WOULD NOT START, CHECKED BATTERY IN CAR, PUT NEW BATTERY IN KEY FOB AND STILL NOTHING. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IT WAS POSSIBLY THE STEERING LOCK. HIT ON THE BOX AND FINALLY CAR STARTED. IT HAS DONE THIS TOO ME 2 TIME IN THE LAST WEEK. I WAS NOT AT HOME EITHER TIME. VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS FOR A SINGLE WOMAN. I DO NOT HAVE THE $800 TO $1000 DOLLARS FOR THE PART AND LABOR. ISN'T THERE SOMETHING NISSAN CAN DO TO CORRECT THIS WITH THOSE OF US THAT STILL HAVE A 2009?. I WENT IN WAL MART TODAY AND CAME OUT AND WOULD NOT START. IT TOOK ALMOST 1:50 HOURS TAPPING THE BOX BEFORE IT WOULD START. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP OR A SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND IT LOOKS AS THO NISSAN QUIT USING THIS PART IN 2010 DUE TO ISSUES. SEEMS THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL.
NOT TOO LONG AGO MY CAR WOULD NOT START IN SEVERAL OCASSIONS I HAD MY CHILDREN WITH ME AGES 4 & 7 IN THE HEAT STRANDED BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE MY KEY... I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMERS AFFAIRS AT ONE POINT THEIR WAS A RECALL BUT HAS EXPIRE IN 2015 ..NOW ITS JUNE 2016 AND MY CAR JUST STARTED DOING THIS I MADE 1YR WITH MY PRE OWNED CAR STILL MAKIN PAYMENTS NOT ONCE WAS I NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS RECALL..I JUST FELT SCARED AND THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN.IT COULD LEAVE US STRANDED ANY TIME AND ITS JUNE I CANNOT RISK IT IN THIS HEAT.... THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE... NISSAN DID STATE TO ME THAT THEIR WAS A RECALL AND THEIR SORRY BUT IT HAS EXPIRED AND IM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PART... I OWN A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA ON MAY 16, 2016 I ARRIVED HOME AT 10:30 I PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVE WAY TURNED THE CAR OFF AN WENT INSIDE MY HOUSE. I PREPARED MY DAD'S LUNCH AND WENT BACK INSIDE THE VEHICLE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR IT WOULD NO LONGER START THE A RED CAR LIGHT WITH KEY WAS BLINKING AND A ORANGE KEY AS WELL MY WINDOWS ARE ROLLED DOWN AND WON'T ROLL UP AND ITS BEEN RAINING PLEASE HELP I CALLED NISSAN THEY ASKED IF WITHOUT HURTING MYSELF COULD I JERK THE BRAKE AND START THE CAR THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AT NISSAN THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY PEOPLE
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR NO REASON THE ENGINE SLOWS DOWN AND WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE BY PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO THE ENGINE RESPONDS AND SPEEDS UP. THERE IS ALSO A WHIRRING SOUND WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION MAINLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS THE ABILITY TO CAUSE A TRAFFIC PROBLEM OR AN ACCIDENT. I THINK THE PROBLEM MAY BE IN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL.
STEERING LOCK FAILED STRANDING ME WITH A NON STARTING CAR 190 MILES FROM HOME WITH A TODDLER WITH NO HEAT OR AC.... IT IS A COMMON NISSAN FAILURE AND NISSAN WILL NOT ASSIST
CAR WILL NOT START BECAUSE STEERING LOCK WILL NOT DISENGAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PARKING, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR REPAIRS UNDER A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH A STEERING WHEEL LOCK MECHANISM DEFECT. UPON RESEARCHING THIS DEFECT I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT SEVERAL CONSUMERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE . THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN SO COMMON THAT A WARRANTY WAS PLACED ON THIS PART UNTIL 2014.BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE I BELIEVE THAT A TOTAL RECALL SHOULD'VE BEEN MADE. PLEASE REVIEW ALL OF THE PETITIONS POSTED ONLINE IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE MANUFACTURE TO DO THE RIGHT THING. THE REPAIR FOR THIS DEFECT IS COSTING IT'S CUSTOMERS A MINIMUM OF $1200 AND I AM OUTRAGED THAT THEY PUT A EXPIRATION DATE ON THE TIME THIS PART HAS TO MALFUNCTION.
TAKATA RECALL - I BELIEVE MY CAR HAS THAT ESCL PROBLEM BECAUSE I CANT TURN ON MY CAR AT ALL. ON MONDAY EVENING I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK FROM HOME AND MY CAR WAS DRIVING FINE UNTIL INNOTICE THAT MY STEERING WHEEL WAS WOBBLING. I ARRAVIED AT WORK PARKED MY CAR AND WENT IN MY WORKPLACE FOR A MEETING THEN WHEN I CAME BACK OUT TO MY CAR TO TAKE IT TO THE GARAGE IT WOULDNT START UP. I PRESSED MY FEET ON THE PEDAL LIKE USUAL BUT NOTHING HAPPEN IT KEPT SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD ONLY A KEY ERROR. AFTER I GOT OFF I TRIED TO START IT UP AGAIN AND NOTHING HAPPEND I EVEN HAD GOT A HOTSHOT BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY BATTERY BUT IT WASNT. SO THEN INHAD TO LEAVE MY CAR ON THE SIDE STREETBFOR 24 HOURS BECAUSE I COULDNT AFFORD TO GET A TOW AT 5AM UNTIL I WENT HOME AND GOT MORE MONEY. SO THEN WHEN I CAME BACK TO WORK THE NEXT DAY I GOT MY CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE WHICH WAS ON TUESDAY MAY 5TH 2016 UNTIL I HAVE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE RIGHT NOW I CANT AFFORD IT. I HONESTLY FEEL LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I ALWAYS TOKE CAR OF MY CAR SINCE I HAD AND THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT I HAD WITH MY CARBSO FAR. I DONT KNOW WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE BRAKE WAS EXTREMELY STIFF, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND PUSHING THE START BUTTON DID NOTHING. AAA CAME AND SAID IT WASN'T THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR OR STARTER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER ' THEY SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE STEERING LOCK MODULE WHICH HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT IT WAS EXPIRED. THIS COST ME APPROXIMATELY $700 FOR THE TOW, PART AND LABOR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THEY THOUGHT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED ITEM BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE, NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND IT COULD LEAVE PEOPLE STRANDED IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
STEERING LOCK MECHANISM FAILED CAUSING MY WIFE TO BE STRANDED. THIS PROBLEM IS EFFECTING THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS OF 2009 NISSAN ALTIMAS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS PART.
STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT FAILED . CAR WOULD NOT START LEFT ME STRANDED AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO DEALER . $ 1000 OUT OF POCKET COST FOR DEFFECTED PART THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER EXPENSIVES DUE TO END OF THEIR EXTENDED WARANTY CAMPAIGN ????LIKE OBVIOUSLY NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INC., HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE DEFECTIVE EQUIPTMENT AND NEED TO RECALL THE PART.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT WAS UNABLE TO START. THE "PUSH TO START" DID NOT START THE ENGINE AND THE STEERING FAILED. THE FAILURE WAS INCLUDED IN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS NOT SURE IF THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL BE COVERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
THE CAR WILL NOT START. THERE IS A YELLOW KEY LIGHT ON THE DASH AND A RED CAR LIGHT THAT BLINKS. THE BATTERY IN THE KEY IS FINE AND OPENS THE CAR DOORS AND LOCKS THEM OK. I GOT INTO THE CAR THIS MORNING AND IT WILL NOT START.
ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK (ESCL) FAILURE: CAR WILL NOT START DUE TO THIS FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS PARKED.
THE ESCL WHEEL LOCK WILL NOT RELEASE TO LET THE VEHICLE START
THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING FILED IN REFERENCE TO THE DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN LOCK (PART # 48700-9N00A) ON THIS CAR. WHEN THIS COMPONENT FAILS, IT LEAVES YOU STRANDED BY BEING UNABLE TO START THE CAR. I HAD JUST ENDED MY LATE SHIFT ONLY TO FIND THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT START. FORTUNATELY NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME, BUT THIS PUT ME IN A SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE ENDED VERY BADLY, AS I HAD TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO COME PICK ME UP. NISSAN OBVIOUSLY KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY AND ALSO IMPROVED THE PART, (NOW PART #48700-9N00B); BUT I BELIEVE THAT A DEFECTIVE PART, WHICH THEY ACKNOWLEDGED AS SUCH BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY, SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED THROUGH A RECALL. FROM THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ON-LINE WHO HAVE ALSO BEEN AFFECTED, I WOULD THINK THEY WOULD DO THIS RECALL JUST TO KEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED. I KNOW I WILL BE LOOKING AT OTHER BRANDS FOR MY NEXT CAR.
APRIL 20 GOT OFF OF WORK WENT TO MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY AND HAD BATTERY REPLACED. VEHICLE STILL WILL NOT START. LOOKED ON LINE AND SEEMS IT IS THE STEERING LOCK SYSTEM FAILURE THAT IS DISABLING MY CAR. CALLED DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PART BUT YET EVERY TIME I LOOK SOMETHING UP ONLINE I SEE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL.
CAR WILL NOT START OR TURN ON ACCESSORIES. STEERING LOCK MECHANISM FAILED. I WAS UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE CAR UNTIL AAA CAN TO TOW IT TO THE DEAL.
CAR WON'T START. IT'S STUCK IN LOCK POSITION.
I WAS ABOUT TO START MY CAR AT A GAS STATION THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND MY CAR WOULD NOT START LEAVING ME STRANDED IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT FAILURE WHICH PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM SENSING YOUR KEY FOB WHICH PREVENTS YOU FROM STARTING THE VEHICLE AND YOU ARE STUCK. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT LEAVING DRIVERS STRANDED AND THE CAR USELESS. I COULD HAVE BEEN ROBBED OR OTHER. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE STEARING CONTROL UNIT.
STEERING LOCK MECHANISM FAILED LEAVING THE CAR COMPLETELY DISABLED AND UNABLE TO MOVE AT ALL. NISSAN HAS KNOW ABOUT THIS BEING A VERY CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS BUT DID NOT RECALL THE PART. THE EXTENDED WARRANTEE ENDED MARCH 31 2015 AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INDEFINITELY BECAUSE NISSAN KNOWS THESE ARE FAULTY AND HASN'T COMMUNICATED TO OWNERS ABOUT IT AS FAR AS I KNOW.

STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE- DISABLING THE CAR WHERE IT WILL NOT START. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TO GET THE CAR FIXED IT'S GOING TO BE OVER 1000 DOLLARS.
I CAN NOT START MY CAR. WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKES IT WILL NOT TRIGGER MY AUTOMATIC KEY TO TURN MY CAR ON. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES I AM NOT ABLE TO START MY CAR. NOW I HAVE TO FIX THE BRAKE LIGHT AND HARNESS FOR 600$ AT MY LOCAL TRUSTWORTHY REPAIR SHOP. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF A HARNESS ISSUE. BUT I GOOGLES AND FOUND A BULLETIN AND MANY 1000 OF PEOPLE WITH SAME COMPLAINT. MY REPAIR SHOP DID THE SAME TOO. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO HAVE A CAR THAT WILL NOT START AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS THAT DO NOT WORK!!!!!
STEERING LOCK WENT WITH NO WARNING. NISSAN AWARE OF PROBLEM AND HASN'T RECALLED. COST $959.21 TO FIX. WAS SHOPPING CAR SHUT OFF. WHEN I RETURNED WITH GROCERIES WOULDN'T START. HAD TO TOW TO DEALER
KEY LIGHT APPEARED TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AT LUNCH TIME. THE BATTERY CHANGED IN THE KEY I WENT BACK TO WORK. AT THE END OF THE WORK DAY WENT OUT TO GO HOME CAR WOULD NOT START! IT WILL NOT MOVE FROM LOCK TO ACC! CANNOT RESET SO THE CAR CAN START WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED!

WAS GOING OUT OF TOWN AND DUE TO BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS ON THE AREA I WAS SUPPOSED TO DRIVE TO, I DID NOT GO. HOWEVER, ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON I GOT INTO VEHICLE, TRIED TO START IT AND IT WOULD NOT START. NOW, IF I HAD OF GONE OUT OF TOWN LIKE I WAS SUPPOSED TO, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED. I OFTEN HAVE MY SMALL GRANDDAUGHTER WITH ME. GLAD SHE WASN'T THIS TIME. HAD TO CALL TOW SERVICE.
