DASHBOARD DESINTEGRATING. WHERE I LIVE IS VERY HOT IN THE SUMMER YET I PARK IN THE SHADE MOST OF THE TIME. AFTER A SURGE IN TEMPERATURE AND THEN A DROP TO FREEZING I NOTICED A SHINE TO THE TOP SEEMS ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I WENT TO WIPE IT OFF I WOULD NOT COME OFF AND WAS STICKY. FORCING IT ONLY MADE IT COME OFF LIKE A PASTE. IT CREATES A VERY UNPLEASANT GLARE AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT
THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE STREETS AND WOULDN'T START. I TRIED JUMP STARTING, CHANGING THE KEYS BATTERY, DIDN'T WORK. HAD TO TOW IT TO MY MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND HE FIGURED OUT WAS THIS STEERING LOCK PART, AND TOLD ME IT IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH ALTIMA 2009. I SEARCHED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND FOUND OUT THAT ALTHOUGH IT HAS HUNDREDS, MAYBE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS, NO RECALL WAS MADE FOR THIS ISSUE.
MY CAR WAS PARKED NEAR MY OFFICE AND IT REFUSED TO START ON 2/7/2020 EVENING. AFTER GETTING TOWED TO NEAREST LOCAL SERVICE CENTER IT WAS DETECTED IT HAS PROBLEM WITH ESCL AND IT WAS FIXED ON 2/11/2020.DUE TO URGENT NEED I COULDN'T TAKE TO NISSAN DEALER. LATER I DISCOVERED NISSAN IS RUNNING ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) SERVICE CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE FAULTY ESCL IN 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA AND ALSO THERE IS OPTION FOR REIMBURSEMENT BUT IT WAS REJECTED STATING MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT QUALIFIED IN SERVICE CAMPAIGN. MY CAR EXACTLY SAME PROBLEM WHAT WAS DISCLOSED IN HTTPS://STATIC.NHTSA.GOV/ODI/TSBS/2017/MC-10119195-9999.PDF. BUT NISSAN REFUSED ACCEPT THE PROBLEM AND THE REIMBURSEMENT CHARGES OF $775. I REQUEST YOU TO CHECK THIS AND INSTRUCT NISSAN TO HONOR THE REIMBURSEMENT MY CAR IS EXCLUDED FROM CAMPAIGN EVEN THOUGH CAR HAS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THIS WILL HELP SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND GETTING REFUSED BY NISSAN WITH UN-SATISFACTORY REASONS . MY STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED AND WON'T STOP LOCKING EVERY SO OFTEN. LOTS OF NISSAN 09 ALTIMAS HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR THAT PART BUT MINE DOES NOT.
THE VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SEVERAL TIMES EVEN IF SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN IT. THE LIGHT WOULD FLASH OFF AND ON AND THEN GO OFF. NOW THE LIGHT STAYS ON AND ALSO SHOWS THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NOW AS WELL. HAVE HAD IT CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE SENSOR IS FAULTY. THEY WANT AROUND $2500 TO REPLACE THE SEAT CUSHION AND CANT ENSURE THAT IT WILL MATCH. THIS IS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS IS A ONGOING PROBLEM AMONG NUMEROUS NISSAN OWNERS OF THIS YEAR. THE CARS VALUE IS NOT WORTH IT AND IT CANT BE SOLD TO ANYONE ELSE DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF THE AIRBAG LIGHT. THE CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND NOTHING IS LOOSE OR BROKEN. I BELIEVE A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE ON ALL VEHICLES AFFECTED WITH THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A LIABILITY THAT WOULD FALL ON NISSAN DUE TO THEY HAVE RECALLED SOME MODELS AND YEARS ALREADY WITH THIS ISSUE BUT REFUSE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET A REMEDY TO THIS ISSUE FOR MANY MONTHS NOW ONLY TO BE TOLD BY NISSAN THEY CANT DO NOTHING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT BECAME NAUSEATED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A CARBON MONOXIDE TEST WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WHICH CONFIRMED A CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A POLICE DEPARTMENT WHO ALERTED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DO AN INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS CARBON MONOXIDE LEAKING FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN OFF MY CAR, A 'KEY' SYMBOL WILL DISPLAY ON THE DASHBOARD AND I AM UNABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN. THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES ALSO BECOME STIFF. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AT RANDOM, BUT MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY THE COLDER IT IS OUTSIDE. THE ISSUE IS WITH STEERING COLUMN LOCK ACTUATOR, WHICH IS UNDER THE PANEL BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL. TO TEMPORARILY FIX THIS ISSUE I'VE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE TAP IT WITH AN OBJECT SUCH AS A WRENCH, WHILE PRESSING THE START BUTTON AND HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKE SIMULTANEOUSLY. HOWEVER, DOING THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMA IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHEN I WAS IN AN AREA WITH NO CELL RECEPTION AND IT WAS AN EXTREMELY STRESSFUL SITUATION. NISSAN HAS RECALLED A SELECT FEW OF THESE PARTS, BUT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING MYSELF, WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL THIS FAULTY PART AS IT IS VERY UNSAFE, AND MAKES THE WHOLE CAR UNRELIABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MITCHELL NISSAN (1640 E PARK AVE, ENTERPRISE, AL 36330, (334) 347-9567) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING LOCK MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A COST ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
LEAVING FROM WORK I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED A YELLOW KEY INDICATOR LIGHT. I PROCEEDED TO STEP ON MY BRAKE TO START MY ENGINE AND MY CAR DID NOT START. ONCE DOING RESEARCH ABOUT THE PROBLEM I BEGAN TO SEE THAT THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH OWNERS OF THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. I THEN LEARNED THAT MY CAR WOULDN'T START DUE A FAULTY STEERING COLUMN LOCKING THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS STOPPED ME FROM PUTTING MY CAR IN THE ON POSITION OR CONTROLLING MY GEAR SHIFT. I AM THANKFUL THAT I WAS IN A SAFE PARKING LOT BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM COULD'VE CAUSED A HUGE INCONVENIENCE OR PUT ME IN DANGER. NISSAN REFUSES TO RECALL THIS PART AND CONTINUES TO PUT MANY NISSAN OWNERS IN THIS UNSAFE SITUATION.
ON THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING, AFTER WALKING OUT OF TARGET, I UNLOCKED MY CAR AND FOUND MY CAR WOULD NOT START WITH THE KEY FOB. MY STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I WAS A FEMALE STRANDED ALONE IN A TARGET PARKING LOT. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR OF TRYING TO GET MY CAR TO START, A WOMAN WITH LITERALLY A BABY ON HER HIP OFFERED TO USE JUMPER CABLES. THEN A MAN CAME TO HELP WHEN HE SAW HER HELPING ME. IT WAS NOT A BATTERY ISSUE, SO THE JUMPER CABLES DID NOT HELP. I WENT INTO THE STORE AND REPLACED MY KEY FOB BATTERY JUST IN CASE. IT WAS NOT A KEY FOB ISSUE. TWO HOURS LATER, MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND CONFIRMED IT WAS A STEERING LOCK ISSUE. MEANWHILE, I'M RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A KNOWN AND RECURRING ISSUE WITH 2009 NISSAN ALTIMAS. HOWEVER, SINCE MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL, IT WAS NOT COVERED. IT IS THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING, MY ONLY FAMILY IS OUT OF TOWN, AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE OVER $400 FOR A KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS NOT BEING RECALLED OR TAKEN CARE OF. I AM FORCED TO PAY OR I DON'T HAVE A DRIVABLE CAR OR A WAY TO SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAY. I WAS PUT UNDER IMMENSE FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL STRESS DUE TO THIS SITUATION.
I WAS TRYING TO LEAVE WORK AFTER HAVING NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR STARTING AND IT WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY. I AM THE ONLY ONE WORKING IN THE HOME AND IT IS APPROACHING CHRISTMAS. I NOW HAVE NO CAR TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK DUE TO THE STEERING LOCK BEING FAULTY. IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I SEEN THAT SEVERAL OTHER NISSAN MODELS FOR 2009 WERE RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME PART NUMBER. HOW WERE ALL MODELS THAT HAVE THIS PART NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL???

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING LOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND RECALL ONCE BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SAME PART WAS REPLACED IN 2014 AND AGAIN IN 2019 BY THE SAME DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *PM*JB
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact noticed that the dashboard was melting, and sticky, and had an abnormal odor. In addition, there was a glare in the front windshield that caused visibility issues while driving. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 148,000.
I AM HAVING A STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE ON MY 2009 NISSAN. THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL FOR OTHER 2009 NISSAN ( NOT SURE WHY) WHICH MAKES NO SENSE. THE CAR DID NOT START WHAT SO EVER AND STUCK WITH A TODDLER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING NISSAN MADE THAT WAS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BELLEVUE NISSAN (14762 SE EASTGATE WAY, BELLEVUE, WA 98007, (425) 289-1200) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
THERE'S A LOUD CRUNCHING AND CRACKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I HEARD THIS. I ALSO FOUND LOOSE BALL BEARINGS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE UNDER THE WHEEL. IN THE PAST COUPLE YEARS THE TOP RUNG OF THE SPRING HAS BROKEN OFF ON BOTH SIDES. UPPER FRONT STRUT INSULATOR RECALL 09 V 35800
MY CAR WAS DRIVING PERFECTLY THE NIGHT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. AS SOON AS I WOKE UP THE FOLLOWING MORNING MY CAR WOULDN'T START UP AND A YELLOW KEY LIGHT WAS LIT UP. I'VE CHANGED MY KEY FOB BATTERIES, MY CAR BATTERY, AND OTHER THINGS I COULD DO. HOWEVER I COULDN'T GET BYPASSED AROUND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCK WHICH I BELIEVE COULD POSIBLY BE DEFECTIVE. SEEING HOW MY CAR WON'T EVEN ENTER ACCESSORY MODE AT ALL AND NONE OF THE ELECTROCIAL COMPONENTS WORK APART FROM THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EDEN PRAIRIE NISSAN (12790 PLAZA DR, EDEN PRAIRIE, MN 55344, (952) 567-2100) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
NHTSA SAYS THE UPGRADED INVESTIGATION WILL NOT ONLY FOCUS ON 2009 MURANOS, BUT SAFETY REGULATORS WANT TO KNOW IF OTHER NISSAN MODELS MAY BE AFFECTED. HOW ABOUT THE NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID 2009...FRONT RIGHT AND REAR LEFT BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO MAVIS WHO HAD JUST REPLACED BRAKES, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS. I WAS TOLD "ABS PUMP AND MODULE ARE NO GOOD, ONLY STOPPING ON 2 WHEELS..REC...NOT TO DRIVE." I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS RELATED AND READ THAT CERTAIN TOYOTA'S SAME YEAR HAVE AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM AND THAT NISSAN USED TOYOTA PARTS THAT YEAR.
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS STARTED TO PRODUCE A VERY SHINNY AND STICKY SUBSTANCE. THIS SUBSTANCE IS CREATING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD OF MY CAR WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE THE STREET IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL METHODS TO REMOVE THIS SUBSTANCE WITHOUT SUCCESS. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS DUE TO HEAT AND HUMIDITY BUT MY CAR IS ALWAYS PARKED IN THE GARAGE WHEN I'M NOT OUT IN IT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT IN MY OPINION SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN 2017 WHERE NISSAN AGREED TO PAY ALL BUT $250 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE DASHBOARDS. MY WIFE DRIVES OUR 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S TO WORK ON 3RD SHIFT AND ON HER LUNCH BREAK GOES TO HER CAR AND TAKES A NAP WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND WAS COMPLAINING TO ME FOR A MONTH OR MORE THAT SHE HAS THIS SMELL IN HER CAR LIKE A "GAS SMELL" AND ALSO WAS COMPLAINING OF BEING TIRED AND NAUSEOUS WHEN I SPOKE WITH HER ABOUT IT. I NOTICED HER CAR WAS ABNORMALLY LOUDER WHEN SHE STARTED IT AT HOME AND IT HAD NOT BEEN RUN THAT DAY. I HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS IS FROM A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY LUCKY SHE WAS NOT KILLED FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING SHE WAS RECEIVING WHILE SITTING IN HER CAR WHILE IT WAS IDLING ON HER BREAK. THE EXHAUST FUMES WERE BEING BROUGHT INTO THE CAB OF HER CAR FROM THE CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD, THRU THE VENTS FROM THE OUTSIDE HVAC AIR DUCTS UNDER THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I NEVER COULD SMELL A "GAS SMELL" WHICH I ASSUMED SHE MEANT GASOLINE OR POSSIBLY A COOLANT SMELL FROM A LEAKING HEATER CORE AND SO I BLEW IT OFF UNTIL I MYSELF HAD TO USE THE CAR AND I QUICKLY REALIZED IT WAS AN EXHAUST GAS SMELL SHE WAS SMELLING AND IT NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BECOME UNCONSCIOUS WHILE DRIVING AT WHICH TIME I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND RETURNED HOME WITH THE CAR. I RESEARCHED THIS SAME EXHAUST GAS LEAK WITH THIS CAR AND IT IS NOT UNCOMMON BUT HAS YET TO TRIGGER A RECALL . MOST LIKELY DUE TO NO ONE BEING KILLED FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING AND THANK GOD MY WIFE WAS NOT THE FIRST. I WILL BE ORDERING A COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM NEW FOR REPAIRS AS TO NOT MISS ANY UNSEEN ISSUES WITH THE CAR HAVING 101,000 MILES . I DO EXPECT COMPLETE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE BILL FROM NISSAN .
ON MORE THEN ONE OCCASION WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR ABOUT 45 MIN. THE ACCELERATION SPEED DROPS TO ABOUT 40 MPH. AND WHEN GOING ON HILLS ITS EVEN WORSE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME NOW, BUT NOW I HAVE A SECOND ALTIMA THAT IS HAVING VERY SIMILAR ISSUES. AFTER SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY FOR A HOUR, THE CAR RETURNS TO NORMAL. THIS CAN NOT BE A NORMAL PROBLEM, I HAVE SEARCHED AND FOUND THAT A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD VERY SIMILAR ISSUES AND IN FACT I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT 2014-2018 NISSANS WHERE HAVING ACCELERATION ISSUES. ( I HAVE ATTACHED THE LETTER) I HAVE 2 CARS NOW THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX THEM, ESPECIALLY IF I AM NOT 100% SURE WHAT THE CORRECTION IS. I HAVE ALSO ATTACHED COPIES OF OTHERS THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUES, AND YOU WILL SEE THAT SOME HAVE TRIED TO FIX BUT GET DIFFERENT RESPONSES ON THE FIX. PLEASE HELP!! THANKS
DOOR HANDLES ON CAR BREAK INTERNALLY PREVENTING DOOR FROM BEING UNLOCKED OR OPENED FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. DEALER HAS REPLACED TWO AT MY EXPENSE AND NOW THE OTHER TWO ARE BROKEN WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. NO ABUSE OR ACCIDENT INVOLVED THEY JUST ALLL OF THE SUDDEN STOP WORKING. CONCERN IS IN AN EMERGENCY (FIRE, ACCIDENT, ETC..) PASSENGERS OR DRIVER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT CAR EASILY OR AT ALL IN A TIMELY BASIS, POSSIBLY CAUSING SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY LODGED A COMPLAINT BUT NOTHING MORE. I HAVE READ OF MULTIPLE INSTANCES ON THE INTERNET WITH NISSAN OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. FIX IS VERY EXPENSIVE WHEN DONE AT THE DEALER AND I BELIVE A RECALL/REIMBURSEMENT IS DUE.
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. THIS IS CAUSING A VERY SHINY SURFACE THAT REFLECTS LIGHT ON TO THE WINDSHIELD. WHICH MAKES VISIBILITY GREATLY IMPAIRED WHEN DRIVING TOWARD ANY BRIGHT LIGHT.
THE DASHBOARD AND STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA ARE MELTING DUE TO THE HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE CABIN. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SUN, THE TOP SURFACE OF THE DASHBOARD MELTS, AND RESTRICTS THE FORWARD VISIBILITY BY CAUSING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. THIS MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE OBJECTS THAT ARE CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE IN THE SUN.

MY GRANDSON AND I WERE TAKING A 2 AND 1/2 HOUR TRIP TO VISIT FAMILY I WAS DRIVING ABOUT AN HOUR ON THE FREEWAY GOING ON AN UPHILL AND I BEGAN TO HEAR A WHINING SOUND AND MY SPEED STARTED TO DECREASE FROM 70 THEN TO 60 AND IT STARTED TO DECREASE MORE SO I THEN GOT OFF THE FREEWAY TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR I THEN DECIDED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE SAFE TO CONTINUE MY TRIP BUT THE LOCATION THAT I WAS IN WAS NOT A SAFE AREA FOR ME AND MY GRANDSON TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK I THEN DECIDED TO HEAD BACK ONE EXIT DOWN WHERE THEY WOULD BE MORE LIGHTING THE CAR DROVE FINE I WAS ABLE TO PICK UP SPEED WITH NO PROBLEM BUT AGAIN I THOUGHT IT WOULD NOT BE SAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING SO I THEN CALL THE TOW TRUCK AND HOW DOES TOW BACK HOME WHAT I DID NOTICE WAS WHEN I ACCELERATE THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE DID NOT REV AT A HIGHER LEVEL NOR DID THE SPEED INCREASE BUT TO MY LITTLE KNOWLEDGE WITH CARS IT WAS TELLING ME IT WASN'T THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, PRESSING THE ACCELERATER AND NOT HEARING YOUR ENGINE ACCELERATE BUT CAR IS STILL MOVING BUT LOWER SPEED JUST DID NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IT WAS MID AFTERNOON ON A FREEWAY THAT COMMUTERS OFTEN USE I WAS LUCKY THAT THE OFF RAMP WAS NEAR FOR ME TO EXIT.
THE CAR LOSSES ACCELERATION WHILE IN THE HIGHWAY. IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN WHEN IT'S HOT AND THERE'S NO WARNING AND THUS COULD BE FATAL.
MY ALTIMA HAS 257K MILES. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A FRIEND'S HOUSE AND THE CAR JUST DIED ON MY STREET. THE ENGINE MADE A WHINING SOUND AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR DOWN THE HILL TO MY HOUSE. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND I AM REPLACING THE CVT TRANSMISSION FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE LAST TIME I REPLACED IT WAS 3 YEARS AGO IN 2016. MOST OF MY MILEAGE IS HWY MILES. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THE CRAPPY CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE ALTIMA. THE DEALER IS PUTTING IN MY 3RD TRANSMISSION TODAY AND ONLY GUARANTEEING A 1 YEAR / 12000 MILE WARRANTY. THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THEY ARE BACKING THEIR PRODUCT. FROM ALL THAT I HAVE READ AND EXPERIENCED, THE CAR IS A TOTAL SAFETY ISSUE LOSING SPEED IN WARM WEATHER ON LONG TRIPS THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. COULD THERE BE A RECALL COMING?

THIS IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY LEAVING ME SCARED TO DRIVE THINKING IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN AND LEAVE US STRANDED AGAIN OR A SCARY ACCIDENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE REAR SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO AN INSTABILITY ISSUE. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ED MARTINS NISSAN OF FISHERS (13397 BRITTON PARK RD, FISHERS, IN 46038, (317) 863-2424) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AND FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED. THE REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000. *LN*JB*JB
AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1.5 HOURS ON A FAMILY TRIP AND ON THE INTERSTATE MY CAR SLOWED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FROM SPEEDS OF 60 -70MPH TO BARELY NOT MOVING AT ALL. CLEARLY THIS FRIGHTEN MY ENTIRE FAMILY. AFTER RESTING ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR THE CAR RESUMED BUT STARTED TO REPEAT THE SAME PATTERN. IT ALSO BARELY PULLED UP A HILL. THIS CAR HAS DONE THIS BEFORE AND THE NISSIAN DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT COULD NEED A TUNE UP. SO BEFORE GOING ON THE FAMILY VACATION LISTED ABOVE I HAD A TUNE UP AND OIL CHANGE DONE BUT GUESS WHAT. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.

"TAKATA RECALL" ON MAY 14, 2019, I SPOKE WITH A NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE REGARDING MY DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD THAT IS MELTING AND HAS BECOME SHINY AND STICKY WITH A GLARE. IT IS DANGEROUS AS THE SILK SURFACE OF MY DASH GLARES ONTO MY WINDSHIELD AND TOTALLY OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW. THE REPRESENTATIVE INSTRUCTED ME TO GO TO MY NISSAN DEALER AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO GAVE ME A PIECE OF PAPER DESCRIBING THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD AND THE COST OF REPLACING IT. ON MAY 20, 2019, I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER NISSAN REPRESENTATION, WHERE I EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE A PIECE OF PAPER FROM NISSAN STATING THE PROBLEM WITH MY DASHBOARD AND WHAT IT WILL COST TO FIX IT. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT BECAUSE MY WARRANTY COVERAGE HAD EXPIRED, THERE IS NOTHING NISSAN CAN DO ABOUT MY DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. AS INDICATED ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL (NISSAN ALTIMA) CAR I HAVE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS THAT HAVE RESULTED FROM IT. I ALSO NOTICED THAT FLORIDA SUED NISSAN ON THIS SAME ISSUE AND WON. I'M DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN ISN'T OWNING UP TO ITS RESPONSIBILITY ON THIS ISSUE AND IS MAKING ME RESORT TO SENDING THIS LETTER FOR A RESOLUTION. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS FLASHING INDICATING THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. A SCAN OF THE VEHICLE SHOWS A PROBLEM WITH THE OCCUPANT SENSOR WHICH IS THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH ALMOST EVERY YEAR OF NISSAN ALTIMA AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NISSAN SAID THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS WHEN THEY OBVIOUSLY HAVE HAD CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH THIS PART.

I AM EXPERIENCING TWO SEVERE SAFETY ISSUES WITH MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE. 1. WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, MY TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO GO THE SPEED LIMIT OR ACCELERATE. NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT, LOSES POWER AND GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE THE FARTHER I DRIVE. THE DASHBOARD IS LITERALLY MELTING CAUSING A BLINDING GLARE WHEN THE SUN (DURING THE DAY) OR OTHER HEADLIGHTS (DURING THE NIGHT OR RAIN) HIT IT...IT CREATES A BLINDING GLARE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES, THE TRANSMISSION AND DASH MAKE DRIVING EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS.

I FIRST STARTED NOTICING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHING OFF AND ON WHEN I WOULD PLACE A HEAVY ITEM IN THE SEAT. I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE CAR RUNNING. THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. THEN IT EVENTUALLY WAS SAYING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS TURNED OFF WITHER THERE WAS A PASSENGER OR NOT. I TOOK TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS AN OCCUPANT SENSOR FAIL B1018 AND I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT FIXED BEFORE MY NEXT STATE INSPECTION OR IT WOULDN'T PASS. THEY WANT $2879.49 JUST FOR THE PART. THE TRADE IN VALUE IS NOT WORTH THAT MUCH ACCORDING TO KBB. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT OTHER NISSAN OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS CLEARLY A FAIL THAT NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR.
