I PURCHASED A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 2 YEARS AGO AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEING NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE THE BEGINNING, ON TOP OF THAT THE MAINTENANCE IS VERY COSTLY IF YOU TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I TAKE MY CAR TO ASE CERTIFIED MECHANICS AT PEP-BOYS AND THE LABOR IS ALLOT CHEAPER THAN DEALER PRICING, MY CAR HAS ALWAYS BEING MAINTAINED BY THE SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL AND RECENTLY I HAD MY TRANSMISSION SERVICE BY THE PEP-BOYS AND THEY SELL BY MY STANDARDS BETTER QUALITY OIL LIKE VALVOLINE CVT OIL BEING THAT I SAVED SOME MONEY THROUGH PEP-BOYS THEY DID THE SERVICE AND EVERYTHING WENT WELL TILL RECENTLY MY TRANNY, WENT OUT AND HEY BLAMED THE OIL WASN'T THE RIGHT COLOR ACCORDING TO THE NISSAN TECH, NOW I WANT TO KNOW HOW CAN VALVOLINE SELL A CERTIFIED NISSAN PRODUCT TO MILLIONS OF CONSUMERS AND THEY SAY IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE MFG, WARRANTY. *TR
AFTER ABOUT 37000 MILES I STARTED TO HEAR A "WHIRRING" OR KIND OF "ROARING" NOISE WHILE DRIVING. I NOTICED THE NOISE SPED UP AND GOT A BIT LOUDER AS I ACCELERATED. I ASKED A MECHANIC TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND THOSE WERE FINE. AT THE NEXT OIL CHANGE, I ASKED THE MECHANIC TO RIDE IN THE CAR BECAUSE THE NOISE HAD GOTTEN LOUDER. THEY FOUND ONE OF THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS TO BE WORN OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER, BECAUSE THE WHEEL BEARINGS ARE COVERED UNDER THE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY UNTIL 60000 MILES. THE DEALER FOUND BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS "COMPLETELY WORN OUT" (PER THEIR NOTES ON THE WORK ORDER). WHEEL BEARINGS SHOULD NOT BE WEARING OUT THIS EARLY. *TR
BRAKE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AND OFF ON DASHBOARD. BRAKE OPERATION WAS NOT AFFECTED AT THE TIME. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS LOW, NO VISIBLE LEAKS AND BRAKE PADS WERE NOT WORN OUT. DEALER DIAGNOSED A MASTER CYLINDER LEAKING INTERNALLY INTO BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS PREMATURE FAILURE SEEMS SIMILAR TO THE CURRENT INVESTIGATION FOR THE 07-08 ALTIMA. *TR
I WAS TOLD THAT MY MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AT A SLOW RATE. MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS NEAR 45,000 MILES. I FIGURED IT WOULD COVERED BY NISSAN DUE TO IT BEING A SAFETY FACTOR. INSTEAD THIS DEALERSHIP WANTED TO CHARGE ME $450.00 FOR THIS PART, I OPTED NOT TO DO SO. ITS KIND OF DISGUSTING THAT A CAR WITH ONLY 45,000 MILES HAS ALL THESE PROBLEMS. THIS HAS NOT BEEN ON THE ONLY ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. THE DRIVE BELT WENT BAD AS WELL AS MY BATTERY. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE READ THAT NISSAN HAS A RECALL FOR THESE MASTER CYLINDERS ON THE NISSAN SENTRA. 11/29/11 I PURCHASED THE CARE ON 12/9/11 AFTER A HEAVY DOWN POUR OF RAIN I WENT TO GET IN THE CAR UPON CLOSING THE DOOR I HEARD WATER MOVING AROUND AS I DROVE IT BECAME CLEAR IT WAS WATER. EACH STOP THERE WAS A SOUND OF WATER UPON REACHING WORK THE SOUND WAS FAINT AFTER THE WORK DAY ENDED THERE WAS A PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. IT HASN'T RAINED SINCE THANK GOD WOULD THIS BE PART OF A RECALL. *TR
WAS IN A WRECK AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT COME OUT. *TR
ON 12/26/11 I WENT TO DO AN ERRAND. I PARKED THE CAR, CAME BACK, AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. ALL THE ELECTRICAL WORKED. I HAD THE KEY WITH ME, YET THE CAR WOULD START. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CAPITOL NISSAN IN ATLANTA. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY STEERING LOCK UNIT. THEY REPLACED THE PART AS WELL AS THE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 33,572. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCT 2011. ON 12/21/16 I WENT OUT TO DO AN ERRAND, RETURNED TO MY CAR, AND IT WOULDN'T START. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO NALLEY NISSAN, WHO BOUGHT CAPITOL NISSAN. THE SAME SCENARIO. ALL ELECTRICAL WORKED. I HAD THE KEY YET THE CAR WOULDN'T START. THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A FAULTY STEERING LOCK UNIT AND REPLACED IT. AT THIS TIME THE MILEAGE WAS 59,125. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT OF THIS UNIT THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THIS RECENT INCIDENT IT WASN'T.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THIS 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S SEDAN, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON, MEANING THAT THE AIRBAG WAS DISARMED, WHILE A FULL SIZED ADULT WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. ON THE MOST CURRENT OCCASION, MY WIFE WAS SITTING PROPERLY WITH ONLY HER LEGS EXTENDED WHEN THIS OCCURRED (SEATBELT WAS ON PROPERLY TOO). I TOOK A PICTURE OF THE WARNING LIGHT, MY WIFE SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WITH MY CAMERA PHONE TO SHOW TO A NISSAN SERVICE CENTER, AS I HAD HOPED THEY WOULD FIX THIS DEFECT UNDER WARRANTY. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE THE WARNING LIGHT, SO THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. DOING SOME RESEARCH BOTH HERE AND ON OTHER SOURCES, THERE WAS A MAJOR RECALL OF SOME 200,000 NISSAN ALTIMAS IN 2007 AND 2008 FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. THE WORRY THAT I HAVE IS THAT GOD FORBID WE ARE EVER IN A COLLISION, THAT THE AIRBAG MIGHT NOT BE THERE WHEN WE NEED IT MOST. THE FEATURE IS ADDED IN THE NISSAN ALTIMA TO GUARD AGAINST SMALL CHILDREN OR PRETEENS WHO ARE SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FROM AIRBAG-INFLATION RELATED INJURIES. WHAT IT HAS DONE IS PUT THE LIVES OF MANY NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS IN JEOPARDY. SHAME ON NISSAN FOR NOT DESIGNING THIS FEATURE POORLY OR NOT REMOVING IT FROM THEIR DESIGN ENTIRELY WITH THE PREVIOUS HISTORY OF RECALLS IN PRIOR YEARS. THIS DEFECTIVE SEAT SENSOR SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, RECALLED, OR FIXED IN MY OPINION. *TR
WHILE PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE IN PARKING GARAGE THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE FOOT WAS ON BRAKE. STRUCK CONCRETE PILLAR CAUSING AIRBAG TO DEPLOY CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO DRIVER. *TR
TPMS LIGHT BLINKS FOR A WHILE AND THEN STAYS ON. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED AT 33022 MILES AND AGAIN AT 52033. IT APPEARS THAT THE TPMS SENSOR BATTERIES ARE DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO BE UNRELIABLE. *TR
THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON AND I FOUND OUT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKS BRAKE FLUID INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THERE ARE NO LEAKS AT THE CALIPERS, HOSES, OR ANY OTHER AREAS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2007 AND 2008 AND THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION FOR THOSE YEARS NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11020, BUT IT DOES NOT THE INCLUDE 2009. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CAUSED HER TO CRASH INTO A TREE AND A METAL POLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD SEND AN INSPECTOR TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. UPDATED 11/29/11 *CN UPDATED 12/07/11
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO BE BINDING AT ALL SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP EXAMINED IT AND ADVISED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY STATED A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN 3 DAYS. AS OF THIS POINT THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE IS "OK TO DRIVE" PER THE DEALER. BUT GIVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR VEHICLE FAILURE A 2 MONTH WAIT FOR A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. *TR
1. DASHBOARD TOTALLY MELTED CREATING A BLINDING GLARE WHILE DRIVING. IT IS COMPLETELY STICKY TO THE TOUCH. THE GLARE IS SO BLINDING ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING THE STREET. . THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR ONLY OFFERED TO REPLACE IT AT A RIDICULOUS COST I CANNOT AFFORD AS A SCHOOL TEACHER. IT WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD, HOWEVER, OLD ENOUGH NOT TO BE UNDER WARRANTY. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS HAVING AN ACCIDENT OR HITTING SOMEONE CROSSING A STREET IF I GET HIT WITH THE GLARE. WILL NISSAN COVER DAMAGES THEN? 2. HEADLIGHTS: PLASTIC HEADLIGHT IS COMPLETELY COVERED IN FILM CREATING A VISIBILITY HAZARD AT NIGHTTIME. RESTORATION PROCESSES DID NOT WORK. AGAIN AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS THEY HAD A FILM OVER THE LENSES. NOW THEY ARE WORSE. AS A SCHOOL TEACHER WITH A LIMITED INCOME I DEPENDED ON MY CAR LASTING. I CANNOT EVEN SELL THE CAR IN THESE CONDITIONS FOR A DECENT VALUE. NISSAN IS NOT HOLDING UP TO THE STANDARDS IT SHOULD; ESPECIALLY SAFETY STANDARDS. LET'S HOPE MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE DOES NOT WIND UP AS ANOTHER STATISTIC. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 88 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL WHINING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE THEN DECELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED SEVERAL FAILURES, UNKNOWN TO THE CONTACT. THE DEALER THEN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE TRANSMISSION HAD RECENTLY CHANGED AND THERE WAS AN EXCESS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REMOVED ONE HALF QUART OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,550 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,800.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE BATTERY AREA, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK. 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S WAS BACKED INTO IN A PARKING LOT, LOW SPEED COLLISION, MINOR DAMAGE TO REAR BUMPER. A FEW DAYS AFTER THIS INCIDENT, WHEN TRYING TO START CAR WITH KEYLESS IGNITION SYSTEM, IT TOOK NEARLY 30 MINUTES TO START. IT IS REQUIRED THAT THE BRAKES BE DEPRESSED TO START CAR, BUT WHEN PUSHING ON BRAKES, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT TURN ON, AND WHEN IGNITION BUTTON IS PUSHED IT ONLY TURNS ON THE ACCESSORIES, WHICH IS THE NORMAL ACTION EXPECTED IF BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT BEING PRESSED. IT IS NOT CLEAR IF THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE COLLISION OR JUST HIGHLY COINCIDENTAL. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH. THIS IS NOW AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, BUT HAS MADE THE CAR UNRELIABLE WITH THE POSSIBILITY TO LEAVE A DRIVER STRANDED. *TT
I WISH TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT A BRAKE FLUID LEAK FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER INTO THE VACUUM BOOSTER. ON THIS DATE, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON. I INSPECTED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND NOTICED THAT FLUID WAS AT THE MINIMUM LEVEL. I PURCHASED BRAKE FLUID AND FILLED THE RESERVOIR. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE TODAY (JANUARY 5, 2012, I TOLD THE DEALER WHAT I HAD DONE. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND FOUND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID INTO THE VACUUM BOOSTER DUE TO A FAULTY O-RING. THE WORK WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. HOWEVER, BECAUSE IT IS UNUSUAL FOR A MASTER CYLINDER TO FAIL WITH SO FEW MILES ON THE CAR, I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT A NUMBER OF OTHER ALTIMA OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE BREWING. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE NHTSA IN MAY 2011 WAS PLANNING TO INVESTIGATE SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN 2007-08 ALTIMAS. IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM MAY BE IN 2009 ATIMAS ALSO. *TR

THE DEALER COULD NOT LOCATE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING- COPY OF A LETTER TO NISSAN RE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WITH HIS 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 SL *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE MERGED ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY, SHE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND SOON DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE WAS DECREASING IN SPEED, INSTEAD OF INCREASING. THE CONSUMER STOPPED TO A REPAIR SHOP, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR AND A HALF OF DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED OF 60 MPH, THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM RETURNED. GOING UP HILLS, WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND THE TOP SPEED OF GOING UP A HILL WAS 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THE NEXT DAY THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HER LOCAL DEALER, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM AS WELL. *JB

THE SAFETY WARNING LIGHT STARTED TO ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. AFTER INSPECTING THE FAILURE, THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,165. UPDATED 07/08/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED EACH TIME HE WENT TO THE DEALER, BRAKE FLUID HAD TO BE ADDED. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A CURB AND CRASHED INTO A ROW OF BUSHES. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED BODY DAMAGE YET THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE DASH ON MY ALTIMA COUPE IS "MELTING". THE DASH HAS NEVER BEEN CLEANED WITH ANY CHEMICALS AND IS VERY TACKY TO THE TOUCH AROUND THE VENTS AND SEAMS. DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE MELTED COMPONENTS, IT CREATES A VERY BLINDING GLARE THAT IMPAIRS MY FORWARD VISIBILITY THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME ALTHOUGH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE. NISSAN HAS ALREADY HAD A REPLACEMENT DASH MADE WITH DIFFERENT MATERIALS WHICH USES A DIFFERENT PART # THAN THE ORIGINAL DASH. VEHICLE TRANSMISSION FAILED. FROM A STAND STILL AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND THEN JUMPED FORWARD 2 FEET AS IF BEING REAR ENDED FROM BEHIND. I HAVE A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH JUST OVER 13000 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT ABOUT 65 MPH I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST OVER MY HEAD. THE SUNROOF GLASS HAD SHATTERED (MORE LIKE EXPLODED) LEAVING ABOUT A 2 FOOT CIRCULAR HOLE IN THE GLASS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT ME BUT WHEN I PULLED OVER I COULD OBVIOUSLY SEE THAT THE GLASS WAS MUSHROOMED OUT AS IF IT HAD EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, NOT PUSHED IN. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY NISSAN DEALER AND THEY AGREED THAT THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT ANYTHING HAD HIT THE GLASS AND THAT IT HAD SIMPLY SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THEY ALSO POINTED OUT CHIPS IN THE PAINT ON THE ROOF AND TRUNK LID CAUSED BY THE PIECES OF BROKEN GLASS. AFTER FIRST DENYING ANY COVERAGE, NISSAN NOW HAS AGREED TO PAY FOR THE NEW GLASS AS A "GOODWILL REPAIR" BUT THEY STILL REFUSE TO PAY FOR INSTALLATION OR THE PAINT DAMAGE. THE DEALERSHIP PICKED UP THE INSTALLATION AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS COVERING THE $2500 OF PAINT DAMAGE. I DID CONTACT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO APPEAL THEIR DECISION BUT WAS VERY CURTLY DENIED AGAIN. *LN

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENTERING NISSAN'S CONSUMER ARBITRATION PROCESS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE ON NOVEMBER 15, AND 16, 2011 TO INSPECT AND REPAIR A CHRONIC MECHANICAL ISSUE THAT HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR THE PAST 16 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A POPPING SOUND AFTER THE ENGINE WAS WARM, WHEN THE VEHICLE SAT IDLE OR TURNED OFF. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL OF MY 09 ALTIMA 2.5S SEDAN IS PRESSED, THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AS IT SHOULD AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ACCELERATES UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED HARDER WHEN IT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALWAYS AND THE AMOUNT OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION VARIES FROM TIME TO TIME. TODAY AROUND 12:30PM, I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR BY PRESSING THE BRAKES AND IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT ANOTHER CAR. THE POLICE ARRIVED, LISTENED TO WHAT HAPPENED, AND REPORTED THE ACCIDENT AS MY FAULT. APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE DURING THE FAILURE, THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATED AND AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE IPDM FAILED; THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.
