NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN EXTENDED THE CVT WARRANTY TO 120,000 HOWEVER FAILED TO NOTIFY THE CONSUMER. MY VEHICLE STARTED WHINING, HEATING UP, WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS IT SLOWED DOWN MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP PUTTING MY LIFE IN DANGER WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AROUND BLIND CORNERS. IT'S A SAFETY AND SERIOUS CONCERN DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION. NISSAN CORPORATION ADMITTED THERE IS A PROBLEM BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY BUT REFUSE TO RECALL THE CVT TRANSMISSION. I CONTACTED NISSAN PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT IN THEIR POLICY TO NOTIFY THE CONSUMER OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 IN GOOD FAITH YET NISSAN FAILED TO CONTACT ME TO NOTIFY ME OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE DOCUMENTS TO PROVE THAT I TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR THESE SYMPTOMS BEFORE THE 120,000 YET NISSAN WILL NOT HONOR THE PROOFS BECAUSE THEY SAID I FAILED TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP. I WAS OVER THE 100,000 MILES THEREFORE, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO TAKE IT THE DEALERSHIP. IT WASN'T UNTIL I STARTED DOING RESEARCH I REALIZED THERE WERE A LOT OF CONSUMERS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUES I WAS HAVING. IT 'S UNACCEPTABLE THAT NISSAN WILL GET AWAY WITH NOT RECALLING THIS FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN ADVISED ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. JIM CLICK NISSAN IN TUCSON, AZ FOUND THE CODES NISSAN WAS LOOKING FOR AND CHARGED ME $731.00 TO INSTALL A TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER WHICH WOULD SOLVE THE SYMPTOMS. I CONTACTED NISSAN ONCE AGAIN AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE COST, THEY TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF THE 120,000 MILES AND BASICALLY OUT OF LUCK. I AM OUT $731.00 AND MY VEHICLE IS STILL HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS I WAS HAVING BEFORE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND MAKE THE CVT TRANSMISSION SAFE. NO ONE'S LIFE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THIS PRICE! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS HAD FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
THERE IS CURRENTLY A EMISSION RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THE 2010 NISSIAN ALTIMA (CSC-10043941-7009)(NTB12-040D SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN) - UNFORTUNATELY IT APPARENTLY DOESN'T INCLUDE MY VIN # ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE DEMONSTRATES THE IDENTICAL ISSUES THAT THE RECALL COVERS. CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFECTIVE DUE TO IMPROPERLY CALIBRATED ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) THAT MAY INCORRECTLY DETECT ENGINE VALVE CLOSURE AS ENGINE KNOCK. THE ECM WILL INCREASE THE FUEL FLOW TO COMPENSATE THIS FALSE READING WHICH IN TURNS CAUSES THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO OVER HEAT. CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACE 7/14/2014 AT 105000 MILES - IN 9/08/2015 IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN 122000 MILES (15000 MILES) - CURRENTLY HAVING ECM REPROGRAMMED WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE AT CUSTOMER COST - THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED SINCE IT'S A FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT ISSUE (AUTOMOBILE EMISSIONS) - THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT.

I HAVE A 2010 ALTIMA THAT HAS THE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM AS HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THIS WEB SITE AND MANY OTHER AUTOMOTIVE COMPLAINT WEB SITES MANY, MANY TIMES (NOT ONLY FOR THIS NISSAN PRODUCT BUT VARIOUS NISSAN PRODUCTS OF EARLIER YEARS). NAMELY, THE SWITCH THAT OPERATES THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILS INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN IT FAILS THE BRAKE LIGHTS WON'T ILLUMINATE WHEN THE DRIVER STEPS ON THE BRAKE. THIS IS A REAR END COLLISION WAITING TO HAPPEN! DOES THE NHTSA HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE IS KILLED BEFORE REQUIRING A MANUFACTURER TO FIX A DEFECT THAT BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND NHTSA KNEW ABOUT FOR SEVERAL YEARS? TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, WHEN THE SWITCH FAILS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS ARE DISABLED POSING AN ADDITIONAL SAFETY RISK. TO MAKE MATTER WORSE, WHEN THE SWITCH FAILS THE CAR WON'T START. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE STUCK IN A DARK, DESERTED AREA AT 2 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING WHEN YOUR CAR DECIDED NOT TO START? AS I SAID BEFORE, THE MANUFACTURER HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS. IN RESPONSE TO THE DELUGE OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, IN NOVEMBER OF 2010 NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGED THE DEFECT BY ISSUING A TSB (NTB10-139) TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT INVOLVES A DIFFERENT STOP LAMP SWITCH AND A NEW ELECTRICAL HARNESS. THE COST TO IMPLEMENT THE TSB IS BORNE BY THE CUSTOMER. MY DEALER WANTS $579 TO DO THIS! IN RESPONSE TO AN OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IT IS TIME FOR THE NHTSA TO ACT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO IMPLEMENT TSB NTB10-139 IN ALL NISSAN PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. MELTED DASH CAUSING LACK OF VISIBILITY DUE TO LIGHT REFLECTS ON DRIVER. COMPLAINT FILED WITH NISSAN AND DENIED.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO START WHEN THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. AT THE PRESENT TIME THE ABS LIGHT, SLIP AND VDC ARE NOW ILLUMINATED AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A FEW MINUTES. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BLINK IF THERE IS A PROBLEM DRIVING IN WET ROAD CONDITIONS OR IT IS SLIPPERY. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING. IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO TURNOVER AND START. I BELIEVE THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE FURTHER AND ISSUE A RECALL FOR THESE VEHICLES.
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR GETS SOAKED EVERY TIME IT RAINS. BUT ONLY IN ONE SPOT ABOUT THE SIZE OF A REGULAR SIZE ENVELOPE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING AND THE MATERIAL WAS LIFTING ON THE DRIVER SIDE. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE DASHBOARD HAD A GLOSSY SURFACE WHICH OBSTRUCTED THE CONTACT'S VISION OUT OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE DRIVERS POWER LOCK HAS STOPPED WORKING, BOTH OPENING AND CLOSING. THIS LEAVES THE DRIVERS DOOR LOCK IN A DIFFERENT STATE THAN THE OTHERS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT GIVES A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. *TR
TRAVELING EAST ON I-20 IN ARLINGTJON TEXAS OUR CAR BEGAN LOSING POWER AND COASTED TO A STOP. WE WERE POWERLESS TO MOVE AND COULD NOT GET OFF THE FREEWAY. WE WERE HIT FROM BEHIND AND AS REPORTED OUR CAR WENT AIRBORNE. THE TRUCK THAT HIT US ALSO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND FLIPPED ONTO ITS TOP. IN ALL 4 PEOPLE WENT TO HOSPITAL INCLUDING MY SELF AND MY WIFE. IN RESEARCHING THE REASON THE CAR STOPPED, I FOUND A NUMBER OF OTHER CASES OVER SEVERAL YEARS OF PEOPLE ONLINE THAT LOST POWER IN THIS TYPE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A SENSOR FOR THE CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT THAT FAILS CAUSING STALLING. I CONTACTED NISSANS REPRESENTATIVE(CASE NUMBER18593816) AT 615-725-7539. TOLD THEM THE CAR HAD BEEN SEALED AND SECURED AWAITING THEIR INSPECTION TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THEY REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE SAYING THEIR WERE NO RECALLS ON IT. I FEEL THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE KILLED US AND OTHERS.

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE OCCUPYING THE CONTACT. A THIRD VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE OCCUPYING THE CONTACT ALSO. THE CONTACT'S DRIVER SUSTAINED BURNS TO THE FACE AND CHEST AND SUFFERED MENTAL ANXIETY. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG EXPLODED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES AND BURNS TO THE CHEST, ARM, AND RIGHT SIDE OF THE BODY. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT INJURED HER NECK AND BACK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS IN THE OTHER VEHICLES WERE UNKNOWN. SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG DOESN'T WORK. THE "PASS AIR BAG OFF" LIGHT IS ON AND THE AIR BAG CLUSTER PANEL LIGHT IS FLASHING. I RESET THE LIGHT BUT IT CAME ON AGAIN WHEN SOMEONE SITS IN PASSENGER SEAT. THE DASH BOARD IN THE CAR IN MELTING, THE DEALER CORAL SPRINGS AUTO MALL IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM WITH DASH. THE REFLECTION FROM THE DASH IN DIRECT SUN LIGHT IS BECOMING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO REPAIRED AND OWNERS NEED TO WARNED BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS. *TR
ENGINE OIL IS LEAKING ON THE GROUND CAUSING POSSIBLE FIRE AND OR ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. I TOOK THE CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND I INDICATED THAT THE REAR ENGINE OIL SEAL SHOULD NOT PREMATURELY LEAK ENGINE OIL ON THE GROUND WITH A 4 YEAR OLD CAR THAT HAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES SHOULD NOT LEAK OIL. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY WILL NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE. I ALSO INDICATED THAT NISSAN EXTENDED SUPPORT ON THE LEAKING CVT TRANSMISSION AND WHY NISSAN WILL NOT COVER FOR THE LEAKING ENGINE OIL?

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLID ON A PATCH OF ICE. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A SNOW PILE. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILED TO REMAIN LATCHED UPON IMPACT AND THE CONTACT STRUCK HER HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BLURRY VISION TO THE LEFT EYE, FACIAL BRUISING, AND A CERVICAL SPRAIN THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR MONDAY AT PLANET NISSAN. ON SATURDAY 1/24/15 THE LIGHT WENT OFF, BUT I'VE HEARD SOME KNOCKING AND THE STEERING MAKES A RUBBING SOUND. SO FAR THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH I FILED A COMPLAINT HERE, AND WAS REIMBURSED, BUT BEFORE REIMBURSEMENT THEY TOLD ME MY VIN DID NOT MATCH. SO I FIND THAT QUESTIONABLE. I'VE PUT ON NEW STRUTS ON THE FRONT AND REAR. NISSAN SAID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THE FRONT STRUT MOUNTS ARE CRACKED WHICH IS NOT COVERED. I'VE BEEN ON LINE AND SEE THAT 2010 MODELS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE NOT LOCATED THE RUBBING SOUND IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I'VE CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER DEPARTMENT AND AM AWAITING A REPLY. SO FAR THE MASTER CYLINDER, STRUTS FRONT AND BACK, THE TRANSMISSION, AND NOW THE FRONT STRUT MOUNTS. ON A CAR WITH THIS LITTLE MILEAGE, I DON'T FEEL SECURE IN THIS CAR AND WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER NISSAN. I THINK THEY SHOULD REPAIR THE STRUT MOUNTS. I'VE NEVER HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH A CAR BEFORE. I WOULD SAY VERY POOR WORKMANSHIP. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO PAYING THE CAR OFF AS I OWE VERY LITTLE AT THIS TIME AND I KEEP MY CARS A LONG TIME, BUT FEEL I HAVE A LEMON AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. PURCHASED USED CAR FROM INFINITI DEALER IN FORT MYERS FLORIDA. THREE DAYS LATER I WAS UNABLE TO GET A GAS GAUGE READING AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I WAITED A MINUTE AND THE CAR STARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES OUT OF THE 10 DAYS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. I AM READING OTHER COMPLAINTS AND FOUND THAT OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2010 ALTIMA ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING281. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC, THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD AN ERROR P0402 CATALYTIC CONVERTER MALFUNCTION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMA AND THAT NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT IT AND DOES NOT CARE TO ANYTHING ABOUT IT; HE TOLD ME TO GOOGLE IT AND SEE THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS. I DID JUST THAT AND WAS AMAZED AT HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE WERE. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT THEY WON'T FIX IT FOR FEAR OF MAKING IT WORSE AND TOLD ME TO GET RID OF THE CAR!. *TR

I DID AND THEIR DIAGNOSIS ($119.00) ARE A BAD BRAKE SWITCH/WIRING HARNESS COMBO ISSUE AND COST ABOUT OVER $600.00. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. THE LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER SAID "OFF THE RECORD", THIS KNOWN DEFECTIVE BRAKE SWITCH WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START, ALSO IT IS CONSUMING THE BATTERY ELECTRICAL CURRENT AND OVER TIME. THIS CONTINUOUS BLEEDING OF CURRENT WILL HEAT UP THE WIRE HARNESS/CONNECTORS DUE TO THE CAR STARTING AND ITS SECURITY FEATURES, AND THUS EVENTUALLY DRAINING YOUR CAR BATTERY AND DAMAGING THE WIRE HARNESS. THAT IS WHY YOU WILL HAVE A DEAD BATTERY OVER TIME OF 1-2 WEEKS. I WAS DRIVING AT 65MPH FOR 1 HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY AND FELT A LOSS OF CONTROL. THE STEERING WHEEL ABRUPTLY TURNED RIGHT, I HAD TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE LANE AND SLOWLY DECELERATED TO A STOP ON THE ROADSIDE WITHOUT IMMEDIATE BRAKING. WHILE BRAKING AT 15-20MPH I APPLIED THE BRAKE WHICH JERKED THE ENTIRE CAR TO THE RIGHT, SUSPENSION WAS STIFF ON PASSENGER FRONT STRUT. THE CAR HAD BARELY 70000 MILES, HAD BEEN UP TO DATE ON SERVICES, WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED TO DETECT WHEN THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
I HAVE THE EVENFLO CHASE CARSEAT LISTED ON THE EVENFLO RECALL BUT THE REPRESENTATIVE I TALKED WITH EVENFLO SAYS IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL. IT WAS ON THE RECALL ACCORDING TO THEIR INFORMATION ON THE COMPUTER. I COULD NOT PUSH THE RED BUTTON TO RELEASE THE CROTCH STRAP. NEITHER COULD THE POLICEMAN TRYING TO HELP ME. IT WAS 95 DEGREES OUTSIDE WHEN THIS OCCURRED. VERY BAD SITUATION. EVENFLO COMPANY IS NOT HONORING THEIR RECALL. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM EVENFLO AGAIN.
