The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear taillight bulb would eject from the retaining clip inside the socket of the taillight assembly. She became aware of the failure after purchasing replacement bulbs for what she thought were blown bulbs. After several failures, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who physically held the bulb in place inside the assembly. After letting go of the bulb, the failure recurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were contacted and informed of the failure. The manufacturer notified the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 99V347002 (Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included. The contact was then referred to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LAMP BULB ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WOULD FALL OUT OF THE SOCKET AT RANDOM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONSULTED, WHO INSTRUCTED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE SERVICE DEALER WOULD NOT PERFORM ANY DIAGNOSTIC TEST WITHOUT CHARGE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL #99V347002 REGARDING THE TAIL LIGHTS. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. UPDATED 7/13/2007 - *NM
A VOLUNTARY RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE LAMP SOCKET REPLACEMENT ON TAIL LIGHT. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH VEHICLE WAS SHOWING THE SAME FAILURE AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE TAIL LIGHT FELL OUT OF THE SOCKET. *AK
