From my Internet search using Google Gemini, (and Google AI has a disclaimer it can make errors), I have replaced my distributer on my 2000 Nissan Frontier three times now due to a stalling problem I have experienced on hot days. I was driving home or not and it was raining. I turned the windshield wipers on. They were working to begin with but after a few minutes, they just quit working altogether. You could hear the motor running for the wiper, but they just wasn’t moving so I had to see it on the side of the road to it. Quit raining so I could make it home. and couldn’t find the part to fix the windshield wipers so my boyfriend has rigged it to where it would work

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear taillight bulb would eject from the retaining clip inside the socket of the taillight assembly. She became aware of the failure after purchasing replacement bulbs for what she thought were blown bulbs. After several failures, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who physically held the bulb in place inside the assembly. After letting go of the bulb, the failure recurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were contacted and informed of the failure. The manufacturer notified the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 99V347002 (Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included. The contact was then referred to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.
PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT TURN ON WITH FACTORY KEY.
WENT TO MY LOCAL GARAGE TO GET MY TIRES BALANCED. MECHANIC REPORTED THAT 1 OF THE 4 TIRES (ALL BOUGHT TOGETHER) WAS BEGINNING TO COME APART INTERNALLY / BELT SEPARATION. THE TIRES WERE INSTALLED DURING OCTOBER OF 2019. THEY HAVE LESS THAN 8000 MILES ON THE TIRES. VENDOR IS REIMBURSING ME FOR THE ONE TIRE THAT WAS FOUND TO HAVE THE DEFECT. THANKFULLY THIS WAS CAUGHT EARLY, BUT AM VERY CONCERNED AS THE OTHER 3 TIRES HAVE THE SAME DOT NUMBER.

WENT INTO DEALER TO CHANGE PASSENGER SEAT BELT UNDER LIFE TIME WARRANTY. DEALER SAID PASSENGER SEAT BELT WAS BAD. DRIVER SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED LIFE TIME UNDER WARRANTY 5 MONTHS BEFORE. THEY SAID PART SEATBELT PASSENGER WAS NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION AND TO CALL NISSAN. I CALLED NISSAN AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE SEARCHING FOR THE PART. WEEKS GO BY WITH NO OFFICIAL UPDATE BUT THEY CHANGED THE REPS 2 TIMES. THE LAST NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE [XXX] CONTACTED ME APRIL 15TH SAYING THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PART AND WOULD PAY $800 FOR THE TRUCKS BACK. I QUESTIONED ON WHY THEY WOULD STOP PRODUCING A LIFETIME WARRANTY SAFETY DEVICE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WHEN IT CLEARLY COULD BE A DANGER TO RIDER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. NISSAN HAD PICTURES OF THE TRUCK AND HOW GREAT OF CONDITION IT IS. I TOLD THEM I JUST WANTED A SEAT BELT FIXED UNDER THE LIFE TIME WARRANTY NOT TO GIVE AWAY MY TRUCK FOR $800 WHEN WHICH HAS LINE-X, NAV AND TOW FOR WORK. I ASKED [XXX] HOW DOES THAT HELP ME? THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SIDEWALL WAS SEPARATED FROM THE THREAD OF THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. TRUCK STARTED TO BUCK AND HESITATE DURING ACCELERATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TRUCK TO NISSAN DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THE FUEL TAKE SENDING WAS BAD. SEARCHED ON LINE FOR RECALLS AND FOUND A RECALL FOR MY TRUCK DUE TO DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNIT. NISSAN IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE RECALL BECAUSE IN 2010 THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK. I STATED THE FUEL TANK IS NOT THE FUEL TAKE SENDING UNIT WHICH WAS NOT REPLACED AT THAT TIME. DEALER CHARGED $850.00 FOR REPAIRS AND NISSAN WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL ON THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE RECALL STATED THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THIS UNIT COULD CAUSE A CRASH. *TR

PREVIOUSLY I REPORTED A FUEL TANK LEAK. I HAVE SEEN THAT OTHER 2000 / 01 FRONTIERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. NISSAN RECALLED THE 2001"S AND REPLACED THE FUEL TANK. THEY WERE REPLACING THE TANKS ON THE 2000 MODEL AT NO CHARGE ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. I FILED A CASE WITH NISSAN ( CASE#12472021) SEEKING ASSISTANCE AND TODAY WAS DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE IN HAVING THE DEFECTIVE TANK CHANGED. THE NISSAN SUPERVISOR WAS [XXX] AT 800 343 6913 EXT [XXX] THAT WAS AFTER I PAID A NON-REFUNDABLE DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF $120.00 TO NISSAN 112 IN PATCHOGUE NY TO TELL ME THE TANK NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AT A COST OF OVER $700.00. FUEL LEAK FROM TOP OF DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK (CORROSION) CONFIRMED BY NISSAN 112 PATCHOGUE, NY. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2001 FRONTIERS FOR THE SAME REASON BUT NOT ON THE 2000. I SEE MANY OTHER 2000 FRONTIER OWNERS HAVE THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT IN MOST CASES NISSAN REPLACED THE TANK FOR NO CHARGE. OWNER DETERMINED BY SPINNING THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE THAT THE TREAD BLOCK WOBBLED SIDE TO SIDE AND THE SIDEWALL HEIGHT VARIED AS THE TIRE WAS ROTATED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE RECALL ONLY COVERED THE FUEL PUMP. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 NISSAN FRONTIER CREW CAB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL BOARD LOCATED BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED AND CAUSED THE HEADLIGHT TO FAIL BEYOND REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO MAKE REPAIR BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT SUPPLY PARTS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS OVER TEN YEARS. THE CONTACT TRADED THE VEHICLE IN FOR A NEWER VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM SCHOOL ON MARCH 10TH 2011. WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY ONRAMP MY CAR ENGINE STOPPED. I WAS TRAVELING 40 MPH AND DID NOT GET ANY WARNING ABOUT THE STALL, MY STEERING DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER AND BRAKES WERE DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN (1-800-NISSAN1) ABOUT MY INCIDENT AND ASK IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS MADE TO MY VEHICLE I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I THEN TOOK MY TRUCK TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSE WITH A FAULTY PUMP AND BURNED ELECTRICAL WIRES. THIS REPAIR COST ME OVER $900. I CHECKED WWW.NHTSA.GOV WEBSITE FOR ANY RECALLS, LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT AS PER RECALL CAMPAIGN I.D. # / NHTSA #: R0401 & R0402 / 04V-230 DOCUMENT RCRIT-04V230-8435. THIS RECALL WAS MADE BACK IN JANUARY 23, 2009. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS, I WISH I WAS AND SO I WOULD NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL THE COSTLY REPAIRS.WHEN I CALLED NISSAN BACK I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL RESEARCH MY INCIDENT AND GET BACK TO ME THE NEXT DAY. 2000 NISSAN FRONTIER FUEL SENDING UNIT SET OFF SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. THIS WAS A RECALL WHICH WAS REPAIRED ON 6 SEPT 2007 FUEL TANK AND SENDING UNIT WERE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAD 62698 MILES THEN. NOW FUEL SENDING UNIT SET OFF SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AGAIN AT 73444 MILES. GAS TANK CORRODED AROUND SENDING UNIT JUST 3 YEARS AND 11000 MILES LATER. FUEL TANK AND SENDING UNIT WERE REPLACED AGAIN, AT MY EXPENSE. HOW WAS THIS A FIXED RECALL WHEN NISSAN STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND WILL NOT PAY FOR IT? *TR

APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE DRY ROTTED. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED EVERY 7,000 MILES AND THE CONTACT WAS NOT ADVISED OF ANY FAILURES WITHIN THE TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED TO PROVIDE THE CONTACT WITH A FIFTY PERCENT DISCOUNT. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CODE WAS FOR GASOLINE VAPOR LEAK. SMELL WAS EVIDENT AROUND GAS FILL. INSPECTION FOUND GAS FILL TUBE RUSTED THROUGH. GAS TANK ALSO REPLACED ALONG WITH ALL PARTS BETWEEN FUEL FILL CAP AND TANK. ONLY 67,000 MILES, ALWAYS GARAGED, CONNECTICUT WINTERS-UNDERCARRIAGE HOSED WEEKLY. $1056.00 TO REPLACE RUSTED PARTS. *TR
I NOTICED A FUEL ODOR FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS AND THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON 9/26/2014 AND WAS TOLD THAT MY FUEL PUMP IS NOT SEALING PROPERLY ON TOP OF MY FUEL TANK DUE TO RUST. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WOULD BE $954 DOLLARS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THIS SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED IN MAY 2009. I HAD THE SAME FUEL ODOR ISSUE. THEY DROPPED THE TANK,CLEANED UP THE RUST, RESEALED THE FUEL PUMP, AND RE-INSTALLED THE TANK. AT THE TIME IT COST ME $594 DOLLARS. I HAVE THE RECEIPTS FOR BOTH ISSUES. AT THE TIME NISSAN CORPORATE STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE ISSUE. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR ME AND I READ UNDER THE "COMPLAINTS" SECTION FOR THIS VEHICLE THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS BOTH A TANK DEFECT AND MORE IMPORTANTLY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE RUBBER PAD THAT ACTIVATES THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CRUMBLED AND FELL APART LEAVING THE BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUALLY ON WITH NO INDICATION INSIDE THE VEHICLE THAT AN UNSAFE CONDITION EXISTED. SINCE THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE CONTINUALLY ON DRIVERS TO THE REAR WOULD NOT HAVE HAD NOTIFICATION THAT I WAS STOPPING WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SEVERE REAR END COLLISION. *TR
WHILE CLEANING TRUCK, I NOTICED HUNDREDS OF SMALL CRACKS IN THE TIRE SIDEWALL AREA ON ALL FOUR TIRES. ALL SMALL CRACKS WERE ON THE SIDEWALL THAT WAS EXPOSED. NO CRACKS WERE OBSERVED ON THE INNER SIDEWALL AREA. NO FAILURE NOTED AS OF NOW BUT I'M LEARY ABOUT KEEPING THESE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE FOR SAFETY REASONS. THE TIRES ARE MICHELIN XCX/APT TRUCK/SUV TIRES THAT WERE INSTALLED ON 10/2004 AND THEY HAVE ONLY 33,268 MILES ON THEM SO FAR (60K MILE WARRANTY). THE VEHICLE IS A 2000 NISSAN FRONTIER XE, V6, 2WD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS FAILS INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE SENSOR ACTIVATES, SHE HEARS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE BRAKES FAIL TO WORK PROPERLY. THE FAILURE HAS ALMOST CAUSED HER TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE TWICE, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE A NEW SENSOR TO REPLACE THE DEFECTED ONE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THIS IS THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW THAT I HAD TO REFILL THE AIR CONDITIONING A/C ON THE TRUCK, I TALKED TO MANY MECHANICS, AND THEY ALL TOLD ME THAT NISSAN TRUCKS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, THAT ONE OF THE A/C HOSES WERE DEFECTED, AND THAT THE FREEON , A/C GAS LEAKED FROM THERE. *AK
THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE FUSE BOX THAT CAUSED A FIRE THAT BURNED UP THE BATTERY, THE HOSES AND MOST OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. PRIOR TO THE FIRE THE VEHICLE WAS STALLING DURING TURNS. THIS OCCURRED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN TO A GARAGE. THE FIRE STARTED AS THE TRUCK TURNED INTO THE GARAGE PARKING LOT SO IT WAS PUT OUT QUICKLY. I CONTACTED NISSAN, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT INVESTIGATE OR LOOK AT THE VEHICLE UNLESS I PAID TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER AND PAID THE NISSAN DEALER TO HAVE A MECHANIC WITH NO C&O TRAINING LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. I CALLED NISSAN BACK AND THEY SAID THAT WAS THERE FINAL DECISION AND NO ONE FROM NISSAN COULD DO ANYTHING ELSE. *AK
ON MARCH 07, 2007 MY 2000 NISSAN FRONTIER BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY TO LOSE ENGINE POWER. NO RECOGNIZABLE EVENTS LEAD UP TO THE POWER FAILURE, IT CAME ON SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT A MAJOR HIGHWAY INTERSECTION, AND NEARLY CAUSED VEHICLE CRASH. ON MARCH 08, 2007, I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO MY PRIMARY MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. ON MARCH 09, 2007, MY PRIMARY ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BEING A FAULTY FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT. HE ALSO ADVISED ME OF NISSAN'S VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM, AND SUGGESTED THAT I RETURN MY VEHICLE TO THEM TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICE COMPLETED. ON MARCH 22, 2007, I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO SANDY SANSING NISSAN OF PENSACOLA, FL, TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICE COMPLETED. THE DETAILS OF THIS SERVICE AS NOTED ON MY SERVICE INVOICE WERE AS FOLLOWS: FUEL SENDING UNIT NON-SALT RECALL; CHECKED CONNECTION, NO CORROSION FOUND, SPRAYED PROTECTIVE COATING ON CONNECTORS. ON MARCH 23, 2007, I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, AS I HAD BEEN ADVISED THAT THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN FOUR MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO FAIL, JUST AS IT HAD WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS BEING A FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT. I PHONED SANDY SANSING NISSAN'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO ASVISE THEM THAT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THE RECALL DID NOT REQUIRE THEM TO REPLACE THE FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS IDENTIFIED AS NOT BEING LOCATED IN A " SALT STATE". AS A RESULT OF MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE FAILURE, AGAIN I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS THAT WAS USED TO DETERMINE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR BEING LOCATED IN A SALT STATE. I HAVE TWO HOMES AND ONE OF THEM IS IN TENNESSEE, WHICH IS A SALT STATE", AND I TRAVEL THERE QUITE FREQUENTLY. I AM UNABLE TO FIND A LOCAL INDEPENDANT MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT BECAUSE OF NISSAN'S RECALL.AK

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE GAS CAP BEING RUSTED. THE CONTACT PAID $600 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000. THE CONTACT THAT AFTER PULLING INTO HIS DRIVEWAY AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH THE CONTACT PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AN EXITED THE VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING. THE CONTACT RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AND WHILE TRYING TO RE-ENTER, WAS KNOCKED OVER BY THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE THEN PROCEEDED TO ROLL OVER THE CONTACTS FOOT, UP HIS LEG AND CRUSHED THE RIGHT SIDE OF HIS RIBS. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND PROCEED TO ROLL DOWN A SMALL INCLINE AND CRASHED INTO A NEARBY TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF SEEKING ASSISTANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO STORAGE AND THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 62,000. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 2000 NISSAN FRONTIER AT 45 MPH SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE BEARINGS CORRODED BECAUSE OF INADEQUATE SEALING OF THE ANTILOCK BREAKING SYSTEM, WHICH CAUSED WATER AND MOISTURE TO REACH THE BEARINGS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LAMP BULB ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WOULD FALL OUT OF THE SOCKET AT RANDOM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONSULTED, WHO INSTRUCTED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE SERVICE DEALER WOULD NOT PERFORM ANY DIAGNOSTIC TEST WITHOUT CHARGE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL #99V347002 REGARDING THE TAIL LIGHTS. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. UPDATED 7/13/2007 - *NM
