BACK IN NOVEMBER, 2009, I STOPPED TO FILL UP MY 2006 NISSAN 4X4 FRONTIER EXTENDED CAB PICKUP TRUCK WITH GAS. AFTER FILLING TANK, STARTED THE ENGINE AND PUT TRUCK IN GEAR TO PULL OUT OF GAS STATION AND THE GAS GAUGE E (EMPTY) LIGHT CAME ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYS ON TILL THIS DAY. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER TO FIND OUT PROBLEM WHY GAS GAGE QUIT WORKING ON MY 51,000 MILE TRUCK AT THE TIME AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $600.00 TO REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WHICH IS INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. OF COURSE I HAVEN'T HAD THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED. I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE BECAUSE THE GAGE IS NOT WORKING. I RAN OUT OF GAS 1 TIME, LUCKILY WHILE I WAS STROLLING IN TO A GAS STATION. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT NISSAN WILL BE IMPLEMENTING A RECALL ON CERTAIN MODELS YEAR 2006 & 2008 FRONTIER PICKUPS, XTERRA AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE PROBLEM THAT THE RECALL STATES WAS THE MOLDED FUEL TANK SHELLS CAN DEFORM, CAUSING THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM TO CONTACT AN EMBOSSMENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK SHELL CAUSING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY. THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN TRAFFIC, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH, WHICH CAME CLOSE TO HAPPENING TO ME TWO DAYS AGO. I CALLED NISSAN REGARDING A RECALL NOTICE I FOUND OUT ON THE INTERNET, RECALLING THESE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM 01/23/2006 TO 3/16/2006. MINE WAS MANUFACTURED 06/2006 AND I WAS TOLD MY VIN NUMBER DID NOT SHOW UP ON THEIR RECALL DATABASE LIST. MY COMPLAINT, MY TRUCK HAS THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART, I'M DRIVING UNDER DANGEROUS CONDITIONS, I NEED NISSAN TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND REPLACE THIS PART WITH NO CHARGE TO ME, THE CONSUMER. I'M TAKING A CHANCE EVERY TIME I DRIVE THIS TRUCK IN THE GAS RUNNING OUT, AND MY VEHICLE STALLING ON THE MAJOR INTERSTATE CAUSING CRASH, INJURY, POSSIBLY DEATH. I WANT MY VEHICLE REPAIRED NOW, NOT HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MY VIN NO. SHOWS UP ON A RECALL LIST. *TR
FUEL GAUGE ON 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK, LEADING YOU TO BELIEVE YOU HAVE MORE OR LESS FUEL THAN ACTUALLY IN THE TANK. MY TRUCK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ANNOUNCED ON MARCH 2, 2010, YET HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I'VE SPENT $250 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED AND FEEL I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED. *TR
DROVE HOME FROM WORK WITH 1/4 OF TANK... WENT TO FILL IT ALL THE WAY FULL.... STARTED ENGINE, SERVICE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT TURNED ON... AND NOTICED THE TANK IS NOT REGISTERING ITS FULL... STARTED DRIVING... AFTER A MILE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY AND LOW FUEL LIGHT TURNED ON... WENT HOME AND DID SOME RESEARCH... AND IM SURPRISED ITS NOT JUST ME THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM.... WE NEED TO DO A RECALL FOR THIS. *TR
2006 NISSAN FRONTIER DOOR LATCHES BECOME NON-FUNCTIONAL WHEN TEMPERATURE DROPS TO FREEZING. DOOR LATCH AND HANDLE LOCKS UP MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO ENTER OR EXIT THE VEHICLE. HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES LAST WINTER AND HAS CONTINUED AGAIN EVERY TIME IT FREEZES. HAVE TO ENTER AND EXIT THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MAKING SITUATION A SAFETY RISK. NISSAN WILL NOT COVER IT OUT OF WARRANTY AND IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE TOPIC, HAS NOT SUCCESSFULLY FIXED THE PROBLEM IN OTHER CONSUMERS VEHICLES STILL UNDER WARRANTY. FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONS WHEN GAS TANK IS FULL. WHEN THE TANK IS FULLY FILLED, THE GAUGE INDICATES EMPTY AND THE GAS LIGHT REMAINS ON. OTHER TIMES THE GAUGE READS AT DIFFERENT LEVELS, MOSTLY HALF FULL OR ONE QUARTER TANK. *TR
MY PARTICULAR PROBLEM HAS BEEN TAKING PLACE SINCE ABOUT NOVEMBER OF 2009. IT BEGAN WHEN I WASHED MY CAR ONE DAY TO REMOVE SOME ROAD SALT AND HAS BEEN RECURRING SINCE THEN. THE PROBLEM INVOLVES THE DOOR LOCK BECOMING "FROZEN". WHEN THE LOCK FREEZES, I AM UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH A KEY, REMOTE, OR MANUALLY FROM INSIDE THE CAB. THIS NOW TAKES PLACE ALMOST ANY NIGHT WHEN IT FREEZES. IF I DECIDE TO LEAVE THE DOORS UNLOCKED AT NIGHT, IT ALLOWS ME TO GET INSIDE, BUT THE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE WHEN I ATTEMPT TO DO SO. I FOUND THIS OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN I THOUGHT I AVOIDED THE FREEZING, CLOSED THE DOOR, PUT MY SEAT BELT ON, AND BEGAN TO DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD. THE DOOR OPENED BY ITSELF WHEN I WENT AROUND A TURN. THE ONLY WAY TO SAFELY CLOSE THE DOOR WAS TO LOCK MYSELF INSIDE. ONCE LOCKED INSIDE THE ONLY WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IS FROM ANOTHER DOOR. SO WHEN THIS DOES OCCUR, I CAN NEVER EXIT THROUGH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. SO, I BELIEVE THIS HAS BECOME A VERY SERIOUS ENTRAPMENT HAZARD. THE DOOR WILL EVENTUALLY THAW OUT AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES OF HEAT INSIDE THE CAR, BUT IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THERE WOULD BE EXTREME DIFFICULTY EXITING THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, I USED SEVERAL BOTTLE OF DEICER IN THE LOCK MECHANISM, BUT THIS DID NOT WORK. I REMOVED THE DOOR PANEL AND SPRAYED ALL THE MOVING PARTS IN ATTEMPT TO DISPLACE ANY WATER. THIS ALSO DID NOT WORK. I VISITED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOT HELP. THERE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. AFTER LOOKING AT SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS, I ALSO NOTICED THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SEEING THIS, I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY ONLINE TWO WEEKS AGO, AND HAVE YET TO EVEN RECEIVE A COURTESY RETURN CALL. THIS IS GETTING ANNOYING AND EXPENSIVE. MY GAS EXPENSES HAVE DOUBLED BECAUSE I FIND MYSELF HAVING TO START MY CAR IN THE MORNING TO WARM IT UP, AND/OR DRIVING AROUND TO WARM AND ATTEMPT TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER NISMO I HAVE HAD 3 FUEL "SENDING UNITS" REPLACED AND HAVE ONLY 21000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THIS IS DUE TO VERY ERRATIC AND SOMEWHAT UNSAFE DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT IE; GAS GAUGE/SENDING UNIT. I RECENTLY HAD IT REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME AND IT IS NOW WORSE THAN BEFORE. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM WITH THE GAS GAUGE/SENDING UNIT. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL AND THIS PROBLEM FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL. THANKS *TR
EVEN THOUGH MY FUEL TANK IS FULL MY GAGE SHOWS IT IS EMPTY. THIS PROBLEM STARETED LONG TIME AGO AND I BEEN TOLD SOME NISSAN FRONTIERS ARE COVERED BY FACTORY FOR FAULTY FUEL SENSOR AND SOME AREN'T. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT IS THE BEST OF GOING FORWARD. THANKS ALLEN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE FUEL AND SERVICE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TO SET THE TRIP ODOMETER TO MONITOR FUEL USAGE TO AVOID RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS THE EMISSIONS TEST BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE FUEL GAUGE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
THE FUEL SENDING UNIT ON MY 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER LE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I FILL UP MY TRUCK THE FUEL GAUGE FALLS BELOW EMPTY AND THE LIGHT GOES ON . AT TIMES IT SAYS THAT I HAVE MORE GAS THAN I REALLY DO. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT NISSAN IS SELLING ALL THEIR TRUCKS AND SUV'S WITH FAULTY SYSTEMS. I REPLACED THE FUEL CAP IN HOPES THAT WOULD HELP. *TR

2006 NISSAN FRONTIER FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM. WENT TO FILL UP GAS ON 9/20/09 AND FUEL GAUGE IS AT EMPTY AFTER FILL UP. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. *TR
PURCHASED A USED 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER 9/18/09 FROM FRESNO ACURA. APPROX 2 WEEKS LATER I DROP IT BACK OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP, DUE TO THE HEATER NOT WORKING & A SHUDDER IN THE TRANSMISSION. FINDINGS RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER RUPTURED AND FLUID LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION & VICE VERSA, I FOUND OUT THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS GOING INTO RADIATOR. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT HONOR TRANSMISSION WARRANTY DUE TO THE RADIATOR NOT BEING UNDER WARRANTY AND TRANSMISSION CONTAMINATION WAS EFFECTED BY RADIATOR . THIS IS SO WRONG, UNJUST AND CORRUPT. POSSIBLE DAMAGE RANGES FROM $3000-$6000. A CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY THIS FOR THIS KIND OF DAMAGE THAT WAS AFFECTED BY A DEFECTIVE PART THAT SHOULD OF BEEN RECALLED OR CORRECTED. A PERSON PAYS APPROX $23,000 FOR A NEW VEHICLE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DISH OUT ANOTHER 3 -4 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A 3 YR OLD VEHICLE . THIS IS BAD BUSINESS AND WILL GIVE THE NISSAN A VERY BAD REPUTATION. *TR
DEFECT ON LEVEL SENSOR OF THE FUEL TANK, CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, AND THE FUEL METER TO MALFUNCTION. THIS DEFECT COULD LEAD TO RUN OUT OF GAS AT ANY TIME PUTTING ANY PASSENGER IN DANGER WHILE IN THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN PATH FINDER, FRONTIERS AND MANY OTHERS ESPECIALLY 2005 TO 2007 MODELS. NISSAN DEALERS ARE CHARGING ABOUT 600.00 DOLLARS TO FIX SOMETHING THAT THEY DO DEFECTIVE AND CONTINUE TO DO DEFECTIVELY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK (NISSAN FRONTIER) LAST NIGHT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. THIS LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF. THEN WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE COST TO REPAIR THE AIRBAG COMPONENT AND THEY WANTED OVER 400 DOLLARS TO FIX THE ISSUE. THEY STATED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART AND IT IS OKAY TO DRIVE THE TRUCK THE WAY IT IS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ANY LONGER IN THIS TRUCK. *TR
I AM SUBMITTING THIS TO HAVE WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION ABOUT A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER CREW CAB 4X4 I PURCHASED ON 08/04/2009 FROM KEN HARVEY'S DUBLIN NISSAN IN DUBLIN, CA. THE TRUCK IS ALSO A "CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED NISSAN". I WAS TOWING MY BOAT DOWN I-880 ON 8/20/2009 AT 55MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BALL THAT HOLDS THE TONGUE OF THE BOAT TRAILER TO THE TOW HITCH SNAPPED CAUSING THE BOAT TO COME UP ON ONE WHEEL, SWERVE, AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. IT WAS BEING TOWED AT THE SPEED LIMIT UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. LUCKILY THIS INCIDENT DID NOT CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT OR MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY BOAT OR TRUCK. THIS STATEMENT IS TWO FOLD. 1) I HAVE GOTTEN ZERO RESPONSE FROM KEN HARVEY'S DUBLIN NISSAN. I CALLED WITHIN AND HOUR OF THE INCIDENT TO INQUIRE AS TO WHAT COULD BE DONE. THE TRUCK IS UNDER A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY UNTIL 9/4/2009. THE TOW HITCH AND BALL ARE BOTH NISSAN PRODUCTS AND INSTALLED BY A DEALERSHIP. THE SALES AND SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES HAVE BEEN UNHELPFUL AT BEST. THEY HAVE FAILED TO GIVE ME ANY ANSWERS OR RETURN ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS UNTIL 8/31/09 WHEN AFTER I LEFT THE TRUCK AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO REPLACE THE BROKEN PART OR REPAIR THE DAMAGE SINCE I DIDN'T GO RUNNING UP AND DOWN A FREEWAY TO FIND THE PART OF THE BOLT THAT BROKE. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE THE PART THAT BROKE OFF I COULDN'T PROVE THAT IT BROKE ALTHOUGH I STILL HAVE THE TOP PART OF THE BALL SINCE IT WAS STILL IN THE TONGUE OF THE BOAT. I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO BE AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE - AS THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. *TR
MY 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE FUEL SENSOR (PART NUMBER 25060-ZS00A) THAT IS ATTACHED GOES BAD AND GIVES INACCURATE FUEL LEVEL READINGS. THIS CAN CAUSE A SAFETY HAZARD IF THE DRIVER IS NOT GIVEN A CORRECT READ OUT OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM TO NISSAN, THEY HAVE A "SERVICE BULLETIN" FOR THE PROBLEM AS OF OCTOBER 4TH, 2007, YET THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM AS IT IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE. I WENT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN LONG BEACH CA (1800 E SPRING ST, SIGNAL HILL, CA' - (562) 426-0333') AND THEY NEEDED $100+ TO BEGIN TO WORK ON MY TRUCK, AND ANOTHER $400+ TO FIX IT. SEEING AS HOW THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY A DOLLAR OUT OF POCKET. I CALLED THE NISSAN CORPORATE NUMBER 1800NISSAN1. THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED AND THEY COULD NOT TELL ME IF I COULD BE REIMBURSED UNTIL AFTER THE REPAIRS ARE MADE, AND MY MONEY ALREADY SPENT. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I DO. ALSO, THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP I VISITED WAS ALREADY WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS HE HAD SEEN IT NUMEROUS TIMES IN FRONTIERS HE HAS WORKED WITH. THIS SHOWS THAT NISSAN IS BEING NEGLIGENT WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. *TR
2006 NISSAN FRONTIER PICKUP. GAS SENOR, AFTER FILLING GAS GAUGE WOULD NOT SHOW FULL. THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
WHEN IN REVERSE AND REQUIRED TO LOOK OVER YOUR RIGHT SHOULDER AND BODY/FOOT IS POSITIONED SLIGHTLY TO RIGHT AND BRAKE IS APPLIED HARD TO STOP WILL CAUSE THE GAS PEDAL TO BE DEPRESSED AT SAME TIME CAUSING VEHICLE TO SURGE BACKWARDS AT A FAST SPEED. THE ABOVE APPLIES TO THE AUTOMATIC MODEL AND COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO BE CRUSHED AGAINST A BUILDING OR RUN OVER A PEDESTRIAN. THE SAME COULD WOULD APPLY IF VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE AND BODY IS POSITIONED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AS FOOT BRAKE IS APPLIED QUICKLY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE VEHICLE HAS COOPER TIRES, TIRE LINE DOMINATOR ALL SEASON, TIRE SIZE 235\75\15. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITONS; THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE EXHIBITED COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION AND THE STEEL BELT WAS EXPOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP. THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW TIRE AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. THERE WAS A SEPARATE OCCASION WITH FAILURE OF THE FRONT DRIVER DEFECTIVE TIRE WHICH EXHIBITED COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION; AND A SIDEWALL BLOW OUT OCCURRED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,117. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,350.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK) AND WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED IMMEDIATELY. WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE INDICATED EMPTY. THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL FOR THE FUEL SENSOR AND THE VEHICLE TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER SERVICED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
"I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 41K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! MY FRONTIER IS EXPERIENCING A FUEL GAUGE AND/OR A FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILURE. THE GAUGE WILL READ EMPTY WHEN THERE IS FUEL AND IN TURN WILL INDICATE THERE IS FUEL WHEN IT IS RUNNING OUT. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL ON AT LEAST 3 OCCASIONS ONE OF WHICH WAS QUITE DANGEROUS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF THE COSTS (WHICH THEY SAY WERE UNKNOWN) TO REPAIR THIS. I BELIEVE THIS FAILURE FALLS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 AND IS A SAFETY RECALL. THUS NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD FULLY ACCOUNTABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE OF A KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED A USED 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER WITH NISMO PACKAGE THAT HAD 32,000 MILES ON IT. BY THE TIME IT HAD 36,000 MILES, THE TRUCK SEIZED ON THE HIGHWAY. NISSAN HAS NO RECALL FOR THIS AND I FEEL THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD CONSIDERING THAT THE FUEL GAUGE IS MISREADING. NISSAN WANTS THEIR CUSTOMERS TO PAY $450 FOR A PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE ON THEIR PART.
