TIRES. GOODYEAR VIVA 3 MODEL, SIZE 215/55R16 (AND MOST OTHER SIZES). THESE TIRES GO OUT OF ROUND AT EXCEPTIONALLY LOW MILEAGE. AN COMMON COMPLAINT AT WALMART (THE ONLY RETAILER THAT SELLS THIS MODEL) IS THAT THE TIRES GO OUT OF ROUND, PRODUCE UNBELIEVABLE NOISE, AND VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE EXPERIENCE BOTH THESE EFFECTS AS WELL, AND THE TIRES WERE INSTALLED ON A NEWLY (DAYS BEFORE) ALIGNED VEHICLE, AND HAVE LESS THAN 5,000 MILES ON THEM. THESE TIRES SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD, THEY ARE NOT SAFE. TIRES THAT GO OUT OF ROUND, AT LESS THAN 5,000 MILES, SOMETHING IS GOING ON THERE. (IN MY CASE, I HAVE ONLY TWO OF THE TIRES (ONE AXLE) BUT ONE IS OK (SO FAR), AND THE OTHER IS CLEARLY NOT. BUT WHEN I WENT AND READ THE REVIEWS, I FOUND OVER HALF THE COMPLAINTS WERE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM (OUT OF ROUND, AND MASSIVE VIBRATION AND NOISE). THE OTHER HALF OF THE COMPLAINTS ON LOW MILEAGE LIFESPANS. BUT THE TIRES GOING OUT OF ROUND, AND CAUSING VIBRATION IN HUGE NUMBERS OF VEHICLES, THAT IS SOMETHING NHTSA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE. HENCE MY COMPLAINT. I WILL SOON BE REPLACING THESE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE, I DON'T THINK THEY ARE SAFE TO DRIVE ON.
THERE WAS NO FAILURE; MECHANIC NOTICED BAD SIDEWALL ON RIGHT TIRE. SHORTLY AFTER, SIDEWALLS WENT BAD ON TWO ADDITIONAL TIRES WITH DRY-ROT CRACKING NOTICED THROUGHOUT TREADS. WIRE BANDS CAN BE SEEN ON LEFT FRONT TIRE SIDEWALL FROM A "GOUGE-OUT". MANY DEEP CRACKS ON ORIGINAL RIGHT FRONT TIRE; BACK LEFT TIRE IS STARTING TO CRACK ON SIDEWALL FROM THE INSIDE (IT APPEARS). TIRES ARE MICHELIN GREENX ENERGY SAVER A/S RADIAL TUBELESS, P225/50R17 95V, DOT B0(?)0A 00NX 0510. CAR IS 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA SE VIN [XXX]. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA EQUIPPED WITH COOPER ARTIC CLAW-VANDERBILT TIRES, SIZE: 215/55/R16. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA GLE/GXE/SE WITH COOPER TIRES, SIZE P215/55R16, LINE COBRA RADIAL G/T, DOT 3DB2, SERIAL D113206 RRT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE. AS A RESULT OF THE BLOW OUT, THE DRIVERS SIDE FENDER, WIRING HARNESS, DOOR AND BUMPER WERE DAMAGED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 117,368.
SIGNIFICANT DEEP CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE SIDEWALL OF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE JUST INSIDE OF WHERE THE TREAD SURFACE MEETS THE SIDEWALL. IT APPEARS THAT THE TREAD SURFACE IS PREPARING TO SEPARATE. MY TIRES HAVE 26,000 MILES OF LIGHT-NORMAL DRIVING.*AK
