MY TRANSMISSION ON MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SLIPS FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 3RD I HAD IT FLUSHED AND STILL AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. *TR
I HAVE A 04 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT JERKS WHEN COMING OUT OF A COAST ESPECIALLY WHEN COMING OFF OF THE EXPRESSWAY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPEND. THERE HAVE BEEN 2 PREVIOUS OCCASSIONS THAT THIS HAS HAPPEND AND NEARLY CAUSED SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY PLAY DUMB AS IF THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THE ISSUE,WHEN THERE ARE TONS OF COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. WHAT IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET SOMEONE TO HOLD NISSAN ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION DESIGN? SOMEONE GETTING KILLED? I PRAY NOT.

AFTER SEEING MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I FELT I HAD TO CONTACT SOMEONE,,,I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA,SE THAT SHIFTS INTO GEAR VERY HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND ON TAKE OFF AND REVERSE WHEN SLOWING DOWN,,A TRANSMISSION COMPANY TOLD ME THAT A LOT OF THE SE MODELS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS,SAFE US HARD WORKING PEOPLE IN BAD TIMES FROM THESE BIG CAR COMPANY GETTING OVER WITH THESE THINGS AND NOT HAVING TO FIX THERE PROBLEM THAT WE GET,,,,,THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED,,,,,READ THE PROBLEMS FROM OTHERS!!!!!!!! *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION HARD TRANSMISSION JERKS ALMOST CAUSING MAJOR ACCIDENT NISSAN NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THOUSANDS OF CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN 2003 RIGHT AFTER THE REDESIGN,AND EVERY SINCE I HAVE HAD IT LITTLE THINGS START GOING WRONG. AT 39,000 MILES MAJOR THINGS START GOING WRONG NOW AT 54,000 MILES I HAVE NO ABS BRAKING SYSTEM,AND OTHER THINGS SEEMS TO START ACTING UP. I HAVE TRIED ASKING NISSAN FOR HELP BUT THEY TOLD ME TO GET LOST. I WISH THE TSB WOULD LOOK OUT FOR THE CONSUMERS AND GET THEM SOME RELIEF. I GUESS THE ONLY THING WE AS CONSUMER CAN DO IS GET A LAWYER AND SUE UNDER THE LEMON LAW AND I KNOW YOU DON'T NEED ANY MONEY TO RETAIN AN ATTORNEY. I KNOW THAT 928 COMPLAINTS THAT SOME THING IS WRONG WITH THE PRODUCT,AND I AM SURE THAT THE COURTS WILL AGREE WITH ME. I HAD HIGH HOPES FOR NISSAN CARS BUT NOW IF YOU TRY TO GIVE ME ONE I WOULD TRY AND HAVE YOU COMMITTED. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN EVER. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR JERKING ESP. GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND DOWNSHIFTING BACK FROM 2ND TO 1ST. IT WAS RANDOM AT FIRST BUT HAS PROGRESSED OVER THE PASS 3 MONTHS. NOW, IT OCCURS FREQUENTLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, MY RPM GOES REALLY HIGH BEFORE IT CHANGES INTO GEAR. TODAY MY "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO JERK WITH HESITATION INTO THE THIRD GEAR. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHENEVER THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE CONSISTENT PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS 97,000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK IN FIFTH GEAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO EXCELERATION. DEALER SUGGESTED CHANGING FLUID BUT I KNOW THIS WON'T SOLVE PROBLEM. THESE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD LAST LONGER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 57,218.
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, WHEN YOU TAKE OFF IT SHIFTS NICELY, BUT WHEN IN HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT LOOSES GEARS, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS, SOMEONE MIGHT CRASH INTO ME, SINCE THE VEHICLE LOOSES SPEED. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ALL THE TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. TO FIX THE PROBLEM I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION THEY DEALER (NISSAN) SAID WHICH WOULD COST ME AROUND $3500 OR $4000 DOLLAR WHICH IS RIDICULOUS FOR A VEHICLE THAT HAS FLAWS IN THE POWERTRAIN SYSTEM. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY (MY NORMAL ROUTE HOME FROM WORK). SUDDENLY, I HEARD A VERY LOUD 'POPPING' SOUND. I OPENED THE SLIDING DOOR TO INSPECT THE ROOF, AND FOUND OUT THAT THE GLASS HAD SUDDENLY SHATTERED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME MORE FREQUENT AS TIME PROGRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURS ANYTIME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL OR WHEN ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND TO FIVE DIFFERENT INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE TO BE IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA & THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD!! IT SLAMS & JERKS INTO GEAR & WHEN I START TO SLOW DOWN IT JERKS & SLAMS!! MORE TIMES THAN NOT WHEN I STOP AT A STOP SIGN IT IS VERY SLUGGISH & WILL HARDLY GO WHEN THE GAS IS PUSHED. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM & THEY WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL OR HELP ME IN ANYWAY WITH THIS PROBLEM THAT IS THEIR FAULT!!! EVERY TIME I TALK WITH SOMEONE FROM NISSAN THEY TELL ME THAT I HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP & HAVE IT DIAGNOSED, & EVERY TIME THEY TELL ME THE SAME THING, THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, BUT I STILL CAN'T GET ANY HELP FROM NISSAN!!! THE 2004'S IS THE YEAR THEY PUT THE "NEW" NO-FEEL SHIFT TRANNY IN & NISSAN USED A CHEAP PLASTIC VALVE BODY & WHEN IT GETS HOT IT STARTS STICKING WHICH IS CAUSING THE JERKING & SLAMMING WHICH ALSO S WEARING OUT THE CLUTCH PLATES!!!! I WAS JUST GOING TO GET THE VALVE BODY REPLACED UNTIL I FOUNT OUT THAT THE PART ITSELF IS $1658.00 WITHOUT LABOR!! I AM A SINGLE PARENT WITH A FIXED INCOME BECAUSE I WAS LAID OFF FROM MY JOB WHO CAN NOT AFFORD EITHER OF THE TWO (A VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT OR A NEW TRANSMISSION)!!!! I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A HANDOUT BUT NISSAN SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING & ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS!! MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP, SLOWLY, AND WITHIN 1K MILES I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION IN MY 04 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED LEAVING ME TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRE THING, 3,450 DOLLAR OUT OF POCKET. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUES AMONG THIS VEHICLE. I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING IN MY CAR, EVEN THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED, BUT SINCE I JUST SPEND OVER 3K TO FIX MY CAR, I HAVE NO MONEY TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE. AGAIN, MY CAR IS STILL NOT COMPLETELY FIXED AND I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING IN THIS VEHICLE AND ALSO I HAVE LITTLE TO NO CONFIDENCE THAT NISSAN REALLY CARES THAT MYSELF AND THOUSANDS OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME CONCERNS. *TR

THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT TO ANY GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER DIAGNOSIS, THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000. THE CURRENT WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000. *TR
I AM A NISSAN MAXIMA LOVER!! I HAVE HAD A 95 MAX, A 00 MAX, AND NOW A 04 MAX. I HAD NO MAJOR PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER WITH MY MAXIMAS EXCEPT FOR THIS 04. THIS CAR IS LITERALLY DRIVING ME CRAZY! FIRST THE CAR STARTED JERKING. THEN MY WINDOWS STARTED STICKING MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOW WILL GO DOWN THEN SOMETIMES NOT COME BACK UP.THEN LATER IT STARTED MAKING THIS EMBARRASSING RATTLING NOISE. EVERYTIME I GOT AN OIL CHANGE IT WOULD STOP FOR A WHILE. I NEEDED A DEPENDABLE CAR WHICH IS WHY I GOT ANOTHER NISSAN BUT ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS GROCERY SHOPPING WITH MY KIDS AND AS I TURNED ON THE HIGHWAY HEADED HOME THE WHOLE CAR SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HOW DANGEROUS IS THAT. I MANAGED TO COAST TO A GAS STATION AND HAD TO CALL AAA TO TOW IT HOME NOW I AM STUCK WITH A CAR THAT I CANNOT DRIVE AND HAVE TO CONTINUE TO MAKE CAR PAYMENTS ON. IVE BEEN TOLD IT WAS A MIXTURE OF MY TRANSMISSION AND TIMING CHAIN.THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS ON THIS SITE WITH TRANSMISSION AND TIMING CHAIN PROBLEMS. UNLESS NISSAN DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MY NEXT CAR WILL BE A FORD FUSION! LOVE MY MAXIMA BUT CANNOT ENDANGER MY KIDS WITH AN UNDEPENDABLE VEHICLE. ON 02/19/10 WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 MAXIMA AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON A OPEN FLAT HIGHWAY, IT SUDDENLY DOWNED SHIFTED TO APPROXIMATELY 2ND GEAR. NOW IT WILL ONLY DO 40 MPH. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THEIR ARE SEVERAL OF 2004 MAXIMA OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN ADVISE BY MY MECHANIC THAT IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $3000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. MY VEHICLE IS NOW PARKED AND NOT DRIVE ABLE. I NEED HELP ! *TR

IN OCTOBER OF 2008 THE CAR STARTED JERKING REALLY HARD WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 1 AND 2ND GEARS. MAINLY WHEN I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO TAKE A TURN OR WHEN APPROACHING A LIGHT AND THEN TRIED TO ACCELERATE. DEALER SAID THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION OR HAVE IT REBUILT. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT IN JANUARY 2009 PROBLEM WAS GONE FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND THEN BEGAN AGAIN ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. WITH TIME THE PROBLEM THE SHIFTING KEPT GETTING HARDER AND HARDER. FEBRUARY 2010 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. NOW THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES JERK REALLY HARD AND MAKE A REALLY LOUD CLANKING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING. WHEN IT DOES THIS THE CAR ACTS LIKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE. WHEN CAR IS DRIVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN TURNED OFF AND THEN TURNED ON AGAIN THEN THE NOISE IS GONE AND CAR ACCELERATES JUST FINE. PROBLEM OCCURS ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS THE SHIFT SOLENOID THAT'S RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT DEFECTIVE AND PERFORMED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 121,000.

THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,800.
I BOUGHT THE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SL FOR MY WIFE IN 2008. IT WAS A ONE OWNER WITH ABOUT 90,000 HIGHWAY MILES, I LOVED THE CAR AND HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL FEB 2010. THE ABS SYSTEM STARTED ACTING UP. SOUNDS LIKE THE ABS IS TRYING TO ENGAGE EVERY TIME YOU HIT THE BRAKES. NISSAN DEALERSHIP WANTED $100 JUST TO HOOK IT TO COMPUTER TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, NO THANK YOU. I HAD A MECHANIC FRIEND HOOK HIS SERVICE COMPUTER UP WHILE I DROVE AND LIKE MANY OTHER CONSUMERS, MY MAXIMA HAS A RIGHT (PASSENGER) REAR SPEED SENSOR THAT IS BAD, THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES TO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, ALL THE WHILE THERE ARE NO SERVICE LIGHTS ON THE DASH, YOU CAN PULL THE ABS FUSE AND BUT THEN THAT KNOCKS OUT 1/2 OF THE CLUSTER, INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, PARTS OF THE OBC, THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM SUFFERED BY MANY CONSUMERS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
I AM THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS CAR. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS OR PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. WHENEVER I SHIFT TO REVERSE THE CAR PAUSES AND THEN JERKS. SAME JERK BEHAVIOR HAPPENS WHENEVER I SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. *TR I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND HAD NEW MOTOR MOUNTS PUT IN TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. FOR A FEW DAYS YOU COULD BARELY FEEL THE JERKING WHEN SWITCHING TO REVERSE. LITERALLY BY THE NEXT WEEK IT WAS BAD ALL OVER AGAIN AND THE JERKING RETURNED. ALSO, SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING I CAN FEEL THE CAR "HESITATING" WHEN SWITCHING GEARS. FOR EXAMPLE, THIS MORNING I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND GOING ONLY AROUND 25MPH AND AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR JERKED AND SLOWED DOWN FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS BEFORE IT RETURNED TO MY NORMAL SPEED. THIS CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING AND SCARY. ALL REGULAR SCHEDULED SERVICES (INCLUDING OIL AND FLUID CHANGES) WERE PERFORMED BY LOCAL PROFESSIONAL SHOPS. I WOULD LIKE TO GET MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED BY NISSAN AT THEIR EXPENSE.

IT ALSO SURGES WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING DOWN AND HESITATES AT LEAST A 10 SECONDS BEFORE ENGAGING INTO GEAR. WHEN IN PARK OR NEUTRAL, THE TRANSMISSION BANGS WHEN DRIVING OFF FROM 1ST TO 2ND. .
