I PURCHASED A NISSAN MAXIMA WITH APPROX 90,000 MILES IN JUNE 2007. I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING VERY BAD. IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, SO THE WARRANTY ONLY PROVIDED A TRANSMISSION WITH EQUAL VALUE AT THE DATE OF PURCHASE, SO THEY INSTALLED A 90,000 MILE TRANSMISSION, THIS TRANSMISSION IS NOW SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR BAD. I THINK THEIR SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE I HAVE READ A TON OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. *TR
2004 NSSAN MAXIMA HAS SLIPPING TRANSMISSION CAUSING LACK OF ACCELERATION WHEN NEEDED MOST WHEN MERGING ON TO INTERSTATE, ETC. THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT AMONG THESE CAR OWNERS AND NEEDS TO ADDRESSED WITH NISSAN. I HAVE TRIED ONLY TO BE TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION. IT IS FAULTY ENGINEERING, BAD VALVE BODY, YET THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND IT WITH A RECALL. *TR
6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION: PUSHING IN CLUTCH BECAME ROUGH, THOUGHT IT NEEDED A CLUTCH. NOT SO, FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A TRANSMISSION INDUSTRY-WIDE KNOWN DESIGN FLAW IN THE NISSAN SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION; THREE LITTLE BRASS RINGS BETWEEN GEARS #3 & #4. THE DEMAND FOR THE REPAIR KIT FROM JAPAN IS SO GREAT, IT TAKES 2 WEEKS TO GET. 5,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY, NISSAN WOULD NOT DISCUSS. *TR

2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE HAS A BAD TRANSMISSION THAT PUTS THE CAR INTO GEAR AFTER 2 SECONDS OF THE ENGINE RACING. IT POPS INTO GEAR BY ITSELF AFTER 2 SECONDS WITH A BANG. THE TRANSMISSION JERKS AROUND 1ST AND 2ND GEAR WHILE ACCELERATING/DECELERATING. IT DOES THIS WHEN HEATED UP AND FOR CARS AROUND 75,000 MILES. THIS CAN CAUSE MAJOR LIFE THREATNING ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY CAR WITH THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE 200 MORE CARS ON WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUES. I CALLED IN 1-800-NISSAN-1 BUT THEY REFUSE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND REIMBURSE MY MONEY. I WANT MY MONEY BACK. IT COST ME $2300 AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED YET. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE WITH 51039 MILES AND RECENTLY I NOTICED THAT THE CAR JERKING CHANGING GEARS SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THEY ADVICE ME THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE MOTOR MOUNT REPLACE, AC LINE IS LEAKING NEED REPLACEMENT AND TRANSMISSION FLUSHED. I DID ALL THAT AND THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENS SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY ADVICE ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACE. THEY GAVE ME A ESTIMATE OF 4500 FOR THE REPAIR. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THIS ISSUE TO SEE IF THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM AND I AM A LITTLE WORRY THAT IT MIGHT NOT. BECAUSE I GOT THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND I DROVE IT FOR NO MORE THEN 3 MILES AND THE PROBLEM CAME BACK. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE TO HAVE IT LOOK AT AGAIN. I THINK THAT IF NISSAN DOES NOT LOOK INTO THIS IT WILL CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF THE TRANSMISSION FAILS OR THAT SUDDEN JERK WILL CAUSE PANIC IS THE DRIVER AND CAUSE THE DRIVEN TO STEP ON THE GAS AND HIT SOMEONE IN FRONT OF THEM. I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM I WAS HAVING TRANSMISSION TROUBLE, THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS FINE,BUT I'M A MECHANIC SO I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE CAR RECENTLY HAD CUT OFF A FEW TIMES WHILE DRIVING. I HAD IT CHECKED AND I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A CAMSHAFT SENSOR. I REPLACED IT BUT I STILL NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANS, ROUGH SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND TO 3RD, AND ROUGH DOWN SHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 2ND. THE CAR WOULD LOOSE POWER, WHICH I NOTICED IT WAS SHIFTING TO FIFTH GEAR AND STAYING THERE UNTIL THE CAR WAS CUT OFF AND SOME WHAT RESET. I ALSO NOTICED SOME TAPPING COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I AM HOPING FOR A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT HARD WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED TWICE BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED ANY FURTHER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,875.
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
I ALSO SEEM TO BE HAVING TRANSMISSION JERK PROBLEMS WITH MY NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CAR HAS 100000 MILES ON IT. I GET A JERKING MOTION WHEN THE CAR SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND THAT REALLY HURTS MY NECK. IT JERKS ESPECIALLY HARD WHEN MAKING A TURN AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AND PICKS UP SPEED AGAIN. AND, IN MY CASE IT ALSO JERKS ONE DAY AND BEHAVES OK ANOTHER DAY. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA- I PURCHASED IT USED IN 2007. IT HAS 90K MILES ON IT, I LOVE THE CAR BUT FOR THE PAST YEAR MY TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING. ONE DEALER TOLD ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT COSTS $4000, I CAN'T AFFORD THAT!!!! I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND EVERY SITE I COME TO HAS A PLETHORA OF COMPLAINTS WITH US ALL HAVING A 2004 MAXIMA WITH THE SAME ISSUE!!!! I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. IT HAS 107,000 MILES ON IT AND IT NEEDS A TRANSMISSION. ON MARCH 10, 2009, I WENT TO TWO AUTO REPAIR SHOPS AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO GET THE PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF AND THEY EXAMINED MY VEHICLE AND TOLD ME THE TRANS WAS OK AND THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS DUE TO TWO MOTOR MOUNTS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $800.00 . THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA'S ON LINE. WHILE YOUR CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY NISSAN WILL FIND THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH THE CAR THAT ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND TELL YOU ITS NOT THE TRANSMISSION IT SOMETHING ELSE. ONCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED THEN THEY WILL SAY THAT IT IS YOUR TRANSMISSION. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN 2004. I RECENTLY BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE JERKS IN MY TRANSMISSION WHEN DOWN SHIFTING AND WHEN TAKING OFF FROM 1ST TO 2ND. I WENT ON LINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM WITHOUT TAKING IT TO THE SHOP AND THAT'S WHEN I SEEN SOME NISSAN MAXIMA FORUMS AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE HUNDREDS OF 04 MAXIMA OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. MOST PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THEIR TRANSMISSION AT AN AVERAGE COST OF 3500.00 DOLLARS. I AM A HARD WORKING AMERICAN AND I WILL BE PAYING ON THIS CAR FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS AND NOW I AM WORRIED I WILL HAVE TO SPEND 3500.00 THAT I DON'T HAVE ON A TRANSMISSION THAT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART FROM NISSAN. 1. I JUST BOUGHT MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 56000 MILES ON IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. 2. I STARTED TO NOTICE THE A BUCKLING AND DELAY WITH THE TRANSMISSION BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS ON AN AUTOMATIC. IT OCCURS QUIET OFTEN. THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE WHEN I GIVE IT GAS, SO I GIVE IT MORE GAS AND THEN IT JUMPS INTO GEAR AND SPEEDS UP RAPIDLY, CAUSING TO DRIVE HAZARDOUSLY. 3. THE CAR WAS JUST PURCHASED AND ALL THE CHECK UPS WERE DONE ON THE CAR. *TR

IT SEEMS TO EITHER HESITATE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR AND ONCE IT DOES IT SHIFTS IN A HORRIBLE KNOCK! I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY REPLACED MOTOR MOUNTS. I SUGGESTED IT MAY BE THE TRANSMISSION, THE DEALERSHIP IGNORED THAT. NOW, IT CONTINUES TO DO THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL AS SLIP GEARS WHILE IN MOTION. IT USUALLY SLIPS FROM 1ST TO 2ND, OR 2ND TO 3RD. IT CAUSES THE CAR TO REV AND SHIFTS WHEN IT WANTS. THAT MAKES IT SNAP EVEN HARDER. THIS TO ME SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE MY CAR JUST RAN OUT OF IT'S EXTENDED WARRANTY. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR A TRANSMISSION REPAIR. ALSO, THERE HAS NOT BEEN A FIRE, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR CRASH THAT I KNOW OF. HOWEVER, THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD ON THE ROAD. *TR

AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP OUR 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA ARE HAVING SOME ISSUES. FIRST THE TRANSMISSION NOW WE ARE HAVING A HARD TIME STARTING THE CAR. AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT SOLVE THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. WE ARE DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN OUR CAR LOSES TENSION. WE ACCELERATE AND IT DOESN'T GET US ANY FURTHER. WE ARE LOOKING AT REBUILDING OUR TRANSMISSION AND TRADING IN THE CAR BECAUSE IT'S REALLY NOT WORTH ALL THE ISSUES THE CAR IS STARTING TO HAVE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 100 MPH, THE VEHICLE DROVE OFF A HILL, STRUCK A STOP SIGN, MADE 360 DEGREE TURNS INTO AN INTERSECTION, AND CRASHED THROUGH A BRICK WALL AND A CHAIN FENCE BEFORE LANDING IN SOMEONE'S HOME. TWO OCCUPANTS WERE KILLED, INCLUDING THE DRIVER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN DRIVING AND WOULD HAVE OBEYED THE SPEED LIMIT. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FOR HER MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE, INCLUDING UNEXPECTED ACELERATION AND BRAKE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2004 MAXIMA THAT I PURCHASED IN 2/08 WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. STARTING IN MAY OF 2008 I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A JERKING SENSATION THAT I NEVER FELT BEFORE, THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS A MOTOR MOUNT PROBLEM WHICH WAS FIXED. AND JUST A MONTH LATER I TOOK THE CAR BACK FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TO FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION, DIDN'T WORK. IN 9/08 THEY SUPPOSEDLY REBUILT MY TRANSMISSION BUT WHAT DO YOU KNOW THAT TODAY I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE 7TH TIME.
