TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP AND JERK WHILE SWITCHING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION - SLIPPING WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR; IT HESITATES TO CATCH AND WHEN IT DOES IS JERKS VIOLENTLY INTO GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOW DEAD AND NO LONGER WORKS AT ALL. IT IS AT THE DEALER WHILE I AWAIT A RESPONSE FROM NISSAN FOR A GOODWILL FIX. MY RESEARCH YIELDED A MULTITUDE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACED THEIR TRANSMISSION. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. IT IS HAZARDOUS TO PUBLIC AS WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC THAT'S ALREADY AT 55 MPH OR MORE, IT HESITATES AND STALL AND CAN INDEED CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR UPDATED

TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BETWEEN GEAR 1 & 2. I HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION @ 70,000 MILES. TERRIBLE SLIPPAGE AND BUCKING. WOULDN'T ACCELERATE INTO GEAR IN A SAFE TIME FRAME. *TR

WHEN I ACCELERATE AND GO BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR THE CAR STALLS AND SLAMS MAKING A LOUD NOISE IT DOES IT WHEN DECELERATING ALSO. I THINK THESE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE RECALLED. I WILL TAKE IT TO THE DEALER ON TUESDAY. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION KEEPS JUMPING IN LOWER GEARS AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MODEL VEHICLE IT IS A DEFECT WITH VEHICLE THAT NISSAN HAS TO APPARENTLY KNOWN ABOUT AND SINCE MOST OF THESE CARS HAVE HIGH MILEAGE THEY WILL NOT HONOR ANY WARRANTY. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION OF MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE APPEARS TO HAVE THE VERY SAME SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE THAT I AM READING ON LINE (CAR SURVEY.COM, EDMUNDS, ETC). THE TRANSMISSION PERFORMS ROUGHLY AND ERRATICALLY ON A CONSISTENT BASIS, AND BEGAN WHEN CAR HAD ONLY 70-75,000 MILES ON IT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN SAN DIEGO. I HAVE JUST SPOKEN TO MY TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST/MECHANIC WHO TELLS ME THAT THEY WOULD TRY TO FIX PROBLEM FROM A CODE THAT CAME UP ON THEIR DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE, HOWEVER I AM NOT CERTAIN THIS WILL FULLY SOLVE PROBLEM. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE IN MY 35 YEARS OF DRIVING THAT HAS HAD THIS TYPE OF SEVERE MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE ISSUE IN TRANSMISSION. *TR
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. I FAITHFUL KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE ON THE VEHICLE, SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN 2003 ( I HAVE RECEIPTS). I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MILLER NISSAN IN VAN NUYS FOR MAINTENANCE. I INFORMED THEM SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR TO MY TRANSMISSION GOING OUT THAT MY CAR WAS NOT RUNNING APPROPRIATELY. THEY WOULD TELL ME THAT IT WAS OKAY AND WOULD GIVE ME A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. FINALLY THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AND THEY WANTED $5000 OR MORE TO REPAIR IT. THEY MISDIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS OF 2004 MAXIMA'S AND THEY HAVE HAD SIMILAR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. EVENTUALLY I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A AAA APPROVED AUTO SHOP TO GET IT REPAIRED BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD $5000 FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE OWNED A CHEVY CAVALIER THAT HAVE 184,000 (1997) NEVER HAD A TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE PROBLEM TO THIS DATE. I WASTED ALL OF MY MONEY KEEPING THE TRANSMISSION MAINTAINED BY FOLLOWING THE SCHEDULE AND IT STILL WENT OUT. I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES TO RESTART IT BEFORE IT WOULD DRIVE NORMALLY AGAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION WERE FAILING. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 84,000.
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA, 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION 4-DOOR SEDAN. AT 73,000 MILES, A GRINDING NOISE BEGAN WHEN SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR. ALSO, SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO 'SEIZE' WHERE YOU COULD NOT SHIFT AT ALL; THIS ALL CULMINATED WHILE ON A TRIP TO THE BICYCLE SHOP WITH MY 3 KIDS, GETTING STRANDED (LUCKILY MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT) WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT EVEN COME OUT OF GEAR. TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER $1300 IN REPAIRS (NEW CLUTCH) THE 'SEIZING' PROBLEM IS BACK 2 MONTHS LATER, AND THE GRINDING WAS NEVER FIXED; THEY TOLD ME THAT WOULD BE AN EXTRA $1300... LOOKS LIKE MANY SENTRAS ARE HAVING SIMILAR SYNCHRONIZER ISSUES AS MY MAXIMA - AS WELL AS OTHER MAXIMAS. WHY CAN'T WE HOLD NISSAN ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR PRODUCT DEFICIENCIES? PLEASE HELP - THANKS!! *TR

SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW (PURCHASED FEB. 2004), I HAVE HAD A KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE FRONT RIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED THIS AS A STRUT PROBLEM, AND REPLACED THE STRUT MOUNT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE SOUND CAME BACK WITHIN A FEW MONTHS. NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE CAR (AS EVIDENCED BY THE ABUNDANT COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND ON FILE WITH THE NHTSA), AND HAS CONTINUALLY REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIR ONCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. *TR
MY 2004 MAXIMA SE, REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING FROM 0KM TO 60KM MILEAGE (159KM) BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRES, TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, CHANGE CAR,MANY TIMES RETURNING , DEALERSHIP FLUSH TRANSMISSION, BUT PROBLEM STILL THERE, SEEMS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT THING, PRESSURE RELATED THEREFORE DAYS WITH NO PROBLEM BUT THEN PROBLEM RETURNING, FINALLY BECAME FED UP SO DEMAND DEALERSHIP TO HAVE ME SPEAK WITH THE NISSAN REP. TO SLOVE THIS PROBLEM. IN MY INVESTIGATING I FOUND THAT THERE IS ALOT OF COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE AND THE MILEAGE SOMETIMES IS JUST 60KM OR EVEN LOWER THUS PROVING THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT MILEAGE RELATED BUT PART RELATED. MEANING THAT NISSAN HAS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION WHICH SHOULD BE RECALLED AS THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS ESPECIALLY REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR AT TIMES JOLTS FORWARD WITH NO WARNING A POTENTIAL OF HITTING SOMEONE ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER MONTHS, NOT TO MENTION THAT THE CAR CAN JUST SUDDENLY STOP WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE, WHICH CAN BE DEADLY IN MINUS DEGREE WEATHER. THE DEALERSHIPS ONLY ANSWER IS TO REPAIR OR REPLACE CAR, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED THEN THE REPAIRS SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF ,IN MY OPINION BUT ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, IF YOU ARE NOT BROKEN DOWN AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THEN THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT COMPLETELY BROKEN SO NISSAN WILL NOT REPAIR. THIS I HAVE A PROBLEM BECAUSE ONCE THE PART IS NOT PERFORMING ITS FUNCTION THEN REPAIRS SHOULD BE DONE AS IT IS BROKEN, IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE CEASED IN ITS COMPLETE FUNCTION BUT AS LONG AS A PART OF THE IT HAS CEASED THEN SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO ITS FUNCTION AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE AT THE COST OF THE CONSUMER ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH INCLUDES THIS PART OF THE VEHICLE. NOW THAT THE VESICLE HAS PASSED THE KMS ITS EASY TO SAY WELL ONE SHOULD CHANGE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AS HAVING INTERNAL FAILURE AND UPON THEM TELLING ME THAT THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE 2004 MAXIMA HAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND BECAUSE OF THAT THEY REDESIGNED THE TRANSMISSION IN THE 2005 MODEL. MY CAR HAS 61,000 ON IT AND THIS HAPPENED AND NISSAN BASICALLY SAID TOUGH!!! THEY ARE AWARE OF AN ISSUE YET HAVE DONE NOTHING TO HELP. AS I FOUND THIS OUT I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND THEY ARE ALOT OF ISSUES WITH PEOPLE AND THE TRANSMISSION AND I THINK ENOUGH FOR AN INVESTIGATION BUT NOBODY HAS DONE ANYTHING. *TR
VEHICLE BEGAN SLIPPING GEARS AND LOOSING POWER WHEN SHIFTING 1ST TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 1ST. DEALER STATES NEEDED A TRANS FLUSH. THIS WAS PERFORMED AND IMPROVEMENT WAS NOTED FOR APPROX 300 MILES. VEHICLE BEGAN HAVE TROUBLE AT 61,000 MILES. JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. I AM TOLD THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION IS A NEW TRANSMISSION. I AM NOT THE ONLY MAXIMA OWNER WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR

TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE DRIVER'S FRONT DOOR OPENED UNEXPECTEDLY. HE THEN PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND SHUT THE DOOR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAILURES. CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE IS AT 62,000 MILES.
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AND RECENTLY HAD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TROUBLE. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WITH THE NORMAL POWER AND IT JERKS WHEN UP/DOWN SHIFTING IN LOW GEARS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE VALVE BODY ON THE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS COMMON TO THIS VEHICLE FROM VIEWING SIMILAR TYPE COMPLAINTS. NISSAN REFUSES TO HANDLE THE SITUATION SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A KNOWN DEFECT ON THE PART OF THE DEALER. THE VIOLENT UNPREDICTABLE BEHAVIOR OF THE TRANSMISSION MAY CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHEN OCCURRING WHILE DRIVING ON MAJOR ROADS. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH A BAD TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT IT NEW. IT HAS 85,000 MILES. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 20078 THE CAR STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS ON FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. IT JERKS, SLIPS AND WILL NO CHANGE GEARS WHEN IT NEEDS IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY HAD ME REPLACE THE ABS SYSTEM TELLING ME IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE ABS LIGHT WAS ON. SPEND $2,000.00. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A SHORT ON THE GROUNDS OF MY CD PLAYER (THAT IS A TRIP COMPUTER AND INFO DISPLAY) IT COST ME $1,700.00. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. I WENT ON-LINE AND THERE ARE 100'S OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. I NEED MY CAR TO WORK, NOW I HAVE TO SPEND $4,000.00 FIXING HE TRANSMISSION. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I JUST FINISHED PAYING FOR MY CAR AND I HAVE TO INVEST HAVE OF THE VALUE INTO SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT BE BROKEN. I TOOK IT IN TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY RECOMMENDED A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE AND WAS ADVISED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I AGREED TO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT BUT THE PROBLEM PERSIST. I HAVE ENCOUNTERED A WEBSITE WHERE HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE 04 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE DEALER OR THE NISSAN HEADQUARTERS ARE LISTENING TO US AND ARE REFUSING TO HELP OR EVEN RECALL THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. *TR
THE ABS SYSTEM HAS STOPPED WORKING AT ONLY 42,000. I BELIEVE THE PART IS DEFECTIVE. NOW THE CAR CANNOT USE ABS TO STOP WHICH IS UNSAFE IN RAIN OR SNOW. THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT WANT TO HELP PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, ALTHOUGH THE DEALER IS WILLING TO OFFER A DISCOUNT FOR REPAIR BECAUSE THE CAR HAS ONLY 42,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE ABS STOPPED WORKING. *TR
