I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE 45,000 ROUGHLY THAT WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2007. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER AFTER DRIVING THE CAR THE TRANSMISSION WOULD JERK AS IF SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND. THE FORCE WAS SO UNBEARABLE THAT IT WAS IF SOMEONE HIT ME AND I FELT LIKE I HAD WHIPLASH. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACE BUT THE PROBLEM ONLY GOT WORST. THEN JAN 2008 NISSAN AGREED TO. *TR
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
DEFECTIVE ABS SENSOR ($482.71) APPARENTLY A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AS THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ALERTING THE DEALERS OF THE SAME. I TRIED TO GET NISSAN TO AT LEAST COVER THE COST OF THE PART ($202.99) AND WAS FINALLY CONTACTED BY THE "REGIONAL REP" AFTER OVER A WEEK OF E-MAILS AND PHONE CALLS. I WAS TOLD I WAS BASICALLY "SOL". SEEMS TO ME THAT A BRAKE ISSUE INVOLVING DEFECTIVE PARTS IS VERY SERIOUS ONE. AND AT LEAST THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE ALERTED TO IT, EVEN IF IT IS NOT AT THE RECALL STAGE YET!!!! NO LONGER HAPPY WITH THE FOLKS AT NISSAN. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA, 130,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND OR DOWNSHIFTING. ALSO SEEMS TO DISENGAGE WHEN DECELERATING INTO A TURN AND THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR WHEN ACCELERATING. SOMETIMES THE TRANNY WILL GO INTO A 3RD GEAR LOCK AND THE POSSIBILITY OF ENTERING AN INTERSECTION WITH UNKNOWINGLY SLOW ACCELERATION DUE TO THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS!. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE CAM SENSORS WERE BAD. $500 PLUS DOLLARS LATER IT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT NEEDS NEW TRANNY. I WAITED A FEW WEEKS AND TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND NOW THEY SAY IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY. I DID TT THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER AND HE SAID HE REPLACES THE VALVE BODY ALL THE TIME.WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG HAS THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE MINE. DEALERSHIPS ARE DANCING AROUND KNOW ISSUES AND EXPECTING EVERY CAR OWNER TO PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN THEIR CAR. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY OPENED A CLAIM, BUT THEIR SOLUTION WAS THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. I BELIEVE THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO ACCEPT SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY DESIGNED TRANSMISSION. *TR
04 MAXIMA SE W/ 55K MILES. TOOK IN TO NISSAN DEALER DUE TO PROBLEMS SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST AND 1ST TO 2ND. THEY RECOMMENDED TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND SAID 2 MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKE. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. REPLACED TRANSMISSION WITH USED 04 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION W/ 21K MILES FROM TOTALED CAR, THIS TRANSMISSION IS ALSO BAD WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, SHIFTING HARD FROM 2ND TO 1ST. 3RD TRANSMISSION IN THE MAIL W/ 6K MILES. VERY DISSAPOINTED IN NISSAN. WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN AGAIN. *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS TOO HARD BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. ALSO NORMAL ACCELERATING AFTER MAKING TURNS, CAUSES AN UNBEARABLE JERK. *TR
AROUND 70K MILES, MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE BEGAN "JERKING" WHENEVER I WOULD ACCELERATE - WHICH OCCURRED AFTER DECCELERATING - SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2005 AND HAVE HAD THE CAR IN TO REPLACE THE HEAT SHIELD AND ENTIRE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, HAD THE RIGHT FROM WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL MECHANICS (AAMCO, GOODYEAR GEMINI, AND OTHER NATIONAL CARE SERVICE CENTERS) THAT WHILE A TRANSMISSION FLUSH MAY SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THEY NOTED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND SUGGESTED THAT ONLY REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WHILE THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TOOK THE SAME STANCE, THEY DID NOT COMMENT ON THIS BEING A REOCCURRING PROBLEM - WHICH I WOULD NOT EXPECT THEY WOULD ADMIT SUCH A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. WITH READING MANY INTERNET BLOGS AND HAVING MORE THAN 5 REPUTABLE SERVICE CENTERS TELL ME THAT THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN MAXIMA'S TRANSMISSION, I WOULD THINK THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM - AND IT SHOULD NOT BE THAT EVERY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNER PAY $4-6K TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION - NOT TO MENTION THE LOSS OF TIME TRYING TO TRACK THIS ISSUE DOWN. I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THIS ISSUE BE ADDRESSED AND WOULD HOPE THAT ACTION, OTHER THAN LEGAL, CAN BE TAKEN ON BEHALF OF NISSAN TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.
TRANSMISSION JERKING CONSTANTLY ON MY NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN JULY 2007. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND THE STEERING LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CAM AND CRANK SENSORS CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS OF DECEMBER 18, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 80,000. UPDATED 01/17/08. *LJ UPDATED *JB
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA, THAT I TRULY LOVE, BUT IS JERKING VERY HEAVILY WHEN CHANGING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND SOMETHING WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED A $4,000 TRANSMISSION BY THE DEALER. HAS ANYONE BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THERE PROBLEM WITHOUT REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WOULD FIRE DURING NORMAL BRAKING, AT HIGHER SPEEDS. HAD TO HAVE MULTIPLE WHEEL SENSORS REPLACED. DEALER CLAIMS IS IT CORROSION RELATED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND REMAINED THERE OVERNIGHT SO THAT THE DEALER COULD DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE NOISE. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON 10/27/07. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WAS 48,701 AND HE IS THE SECOND OWNER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD CALL HIM REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
ON OR ABOUT THE EVENING OF OCTOBER 23, 2007, I HEARD A LOUD BOOM! AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING AIRBORNE, OR FEEL ANY SORT OF IMPACT. AT FIRST I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD BLOWN-OUT THEIR TIRE, BUT THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND US. SO I PARKED AND LOOKED AT MY TIRES. ALL ALL MY TIRES WERE FINE, AND THERE WAS NO SIGN THAT ANYTHING HAD HIT THE BODY ANYWHERE IN THE FRONT, REAR OR SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE NEXT MORNING IT WAS DRIZZLING, AND AS I WAS PULLING OUT, I NOTICED A SMALL TRICKLE OF WATER COMING FROM THE LIGHT PANEL ABOVE. IT WAS SEEPING IN FROM THE ROOF SOMEHOW. THIS WAS STRANGE, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A SUNROOF --ONLY A SKYVIEW AND THAT DOESN'T OPEN. I SLID BACK THE ROOF PANELS TO INVESTIGATE. AS THE DAYLIGHT SHINED THROUGH I WAS HORRIFIED TO FIND THE SKYVIEW WINDOW FULL OF CRACKS. IT LOOKED LIKED CRACKED ICE WHICH STARTED ABOVE THE FRONTSEAT AREA, AND CONTINUED INTO THE BACKSEAT AREA. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 1-800- NISSAN-1 AND REPORTED THIS TO CUSTOMER CARE REP. CHRISTINE BASILLE X. 51276, AND TOLD HER WHAT HAD HAPPENED. FURTHERMORE, I TOLD HER THAT I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THE SKYVIEW WITH MY VIN SOME YEARS EARLIER, BACK IN 2004. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT NISSAN WHETHER I HAD EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT OR NOT. I TOLD HER THAT IN 2004, I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER IN RESPONSE TO THE RECALL BACK THEN. THE DEALER HAD KEPT MY VEHICLE OVERNIGHT TO INSPECT IT, BUT CHOSE NOT TO REPLACE MY SKYVIEW SAYING SOMETHING LIKE MY VEHICLE DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE AFFECTED. CHRISTINE BASILLE TOLD ME THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD GET BACK IN CONTACT WITH ME BY MONDAY. IN THE INTERIM, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT, BECAUSE MY SERVICE REP SAID THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WARRANTY ISSUE AND DAMAGE DUE TO IMPACT. ALTHOUGH, THE SERVICE DEPT. REPORTED THAT THERE IS NO SIGN OF IMPACT, THEY HAVE DECLINED COVERING THE REPAIR. I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM MY REGIONAL NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED RELATED TO THE WATER LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE AND CAUSING IT TO RUST AND ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE CONTACT IS CURRENTLY USING TOWELS IN THE VEHICLE TO ASSIST WITH THE LEAK. THE CONTACT ALSO HAS INVOICES AND DETAILED DOCUMENTS FROM THE DEALER AVAILABLE. THE ASSESSMENT REPORT LIST THE DEALERS CONCLUSIONS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE RECENT FAILURE. THE CONTACT WANTS A REPRESENTATIVE AT NHTSA TO CONTACT HER REGARDING THE CURRENT AND PREVIOUS PHOTOS AVAILABLE DUE TO THE WATER LEAK AND DAMAGE IN TO VEHICLE.
PURCHASED 4 GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS (2 PURCHASED @ JUST TIRES AND 2 PURCHASED AT GARDENA NISSAN). TIRES FREQUENTLY LOST AIR PRESSURE. I WENT BACK TO JUST TIRES AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE RIMS. I WENT BACK TO GARDENA NISSAN AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, SO I PURCHASED NITROL THINKING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND I TOOK IT BACK, STILL NO PROBLEM FOUND. WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A POP, STOPPED AND SAW THAT THE TIRE WAS FLAT. TURNED INTO GAS STATION ON CORNER AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT AIR IN, TIRE WOULD NOT INFLATE. CALLED AAA, TOW TRUCK DRIVER REMOVED TIRE AND FOUND 3 CRACKS, 1 OF WHICH HAD BLOWN OPEN. HE SAID IT AS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. A WEEK PRIOR TO INCIDENT I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM GOODYEAR FOR THE SAME DEFECT. I TOOK TIRE TO GARDENA NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING-I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO GOODYEAR. I THEN WENT TO JUST TIRES, THEY SAID THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE BUT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE OF THE DOT AND THEY COULDN'T GET AUTHORIZATION BECAUSE GOODYEAR WAS ALREADY CLOSED FOR THE DAY. THEY ALSO FOUND THAT ONE OTHER TIRE HAD THE SAME CRACKS IN IT. SO I PURCHASED 2 NEW TIRES AT THE PRORATED RATE. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR THE NEXT DAY ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T FALL WITHIN THE RECALL CRITERIA, EVENTHOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. *TR
MY TRANSMISSION JERKING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR ON MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 77,000 MILES. I TOOK IT IN TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY RECOMMENDED A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE. I AGREED TO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT BUT THE PROBLEM PERSIST. I LATER TOOK THE CAR BACK BUT THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. NOW AT 133,000 MILES ITS VERY BAD. THERE IS A WEBSITE WHERE HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE 04 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE DEALER OR THE NISSAN HEADQUARTERS ARE LISTENING TO US AND ARE REFUSING TO HELP OR EVEN RECALL THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. *TR
I REC'D A LETTER REGARDING RECALLS ON TIRES ON A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA INFORMING OF DEFECTED TIRE WALLS WHERE THE TIRES CRACK/SPLIT. MY TIRES ARE NOW SHOWING SUCH DAMAGE, BUT, I HAVE MISPLACED MY LETTER INDICATING WHERE TO TAKE THE TIRES FOR REPLACEMENT. PLEASE SEND PERTINENT INFORMATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT I CAN HAVE DAMAGED TIRES REPLACED. THANK YOU. D. HAMLET *TR
2004 MAXIMA SE EXPERIENCING SEVERE TRANSMISSION JERK. EVERY PLACE I GO IN ADDITION TO THE DEALER STATE THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT AROUND $3,400. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED I HAVE NO EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT GETS FRUSTRATING. I HAD A COMPLAINT FILED EARLIER WITH CHRYSLER FOR THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE SLUDGE ISSUE BUT NO RESOLUTION TO THAT EITHER. I HAD TO REPLACE THAT ENGINE TWICE AT $6,000 A POP. HERE WE GO AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY SHIFTING BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR 2-3 SECONDS. AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY DOWNSHIFT FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEAR. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE DEALER FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,000.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T ACCELERATE TO A HIGHER SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE FIRST AND SECOND GEAR HAVING ISSUES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,600.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107000. UPDATED 3/12/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD GET STUCK IN GEAR WHEN TRYING TO RESUME SPEED AFTER STOPPING AND DROPPING 10-20 MPH SLOWER. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS APPLIED, THE TRANSMISSION IDLED, BUT THE VEHICLE STAGGERED IN 1ST GEAR. UPDATED 05/10/10*JB
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT A FRIEND WAS DRIVING ON SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 23,2007. THERE WAS 3 OF US IN THE CAR. WE WERE GOING THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT THAT WAS GREEN WHEN A COP RAN THE RED LIGHT AND WE BASICALLY T-BONED HIM RIGHT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE POLICE CAR. THE OFFICER WAS IN CHASE OF A STOLEN CAR. THE WHOLE FRONT END HAS DAMAGE ON MY CAR. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE AIRBAG SENSORS IN FRONT BUT THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED! I AM WONDERING WHY THIS WOULD BE AND WHAT CAN BE DONE? *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION LURCHED FORWARD AND MADE A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING FROM SECOND INTO FIRST GEAR. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. A TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE COMPUTER SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,421 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,319.
5 SPD AUTO TRANSMISSION SHIFTING VERY HARSHLY FROM 2ND TO 3RD, AND FROM 3RD TO 2ND GEAR. *TR
PURCHASED CAR IN JULY OF 2007 FOUR BRAND NEW CHROME WHEELS FROM THE DEALER. BY SEPTEMBER OF 2007 CHROME BEGAN TO PEEL ON THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL BETWEEN THE SPOKES ON ALL FOUR TIRES. I EXPLAINED I COULDN'T AFFORD THE $1,500 IT WOULD COSTS ME AND THAT THE DEALER SHOULD WARRANT THE COST SINCE THIS INCURRED SIX MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR. I REFUSED THE OFFER AND CONTINUED DRIVING ON THE PEELING WHEELS. RECENTLY, APRIL 2008, MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BEGAN TO LEAK AIR. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE REP STATED THE CHROME WAS DETERIORATING FROM THE INSIDE. THE REP STATED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY FIX A FLAT (NOT CORRECT AS THE FIX A FLAT WAS USED TO STOP THE LEAK IN THE FIRST PLACE) THE FAULTY WHEEL WAS BEADED AND MY TIRES WERE ROTATED. THIS HAS GONE FROM A COSMETIC ISSUE TO THE ISSUE OF A HEALTH HAZARD IN MY DAILY DRIVING. TRANSMISSION JERKING. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH 64,000 ON IT. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER ABOUT ONE MONTH. TOOK IT IN TO DEALER AND THEY FIX THAT PROBLEM. THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM BROKE DOWN SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT FAILED ALL TOGETHER. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN THAT ALLOWS RUST TO BUILD UP BETWEEN THE WHEEL SENSORS AND THE HUB, WHICH APPEARS TO BE MOST PREVALENT IN THE SALT STATES. THE INITIAL SYMPTOMS INCLUDE THE ABS FIRING DURING REGULAR BRAKING, WHICH COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN AT HIGH SPEEDS. EVENTUALLY, THE MISFIRING ABS WILL CAUSE THE ABS CONTROLLER TO BURN OUT COMPLETELY. *TR
