TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SIDEWALL ON THE GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A (P245/45R18) TIRES HAVE BEGUN TO CRACK ON ALL FOUR TIRES. HE ONLY NOTICED THE CRACKING AT 45,000 MILES. THE TIRES ARE V SPEED RATED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 69,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE GOODYEAR EAGLE TIRES (SIZE P245R18) HAVE CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM. THE PURCHASE DATE AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 65,000.
I PURCHASED A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR NOW HAS 17000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, POHANKA NISSAN IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA, THE CAR FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE THE TIRES HAVE FAILED. THE TIRES ARE GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A M+S P245/45 R18. THE TIRES HAVE SIDEWALL CRACKS ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES AND CORDS ARE SHOWING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM ON NISSAN'S EQUIPPED WITH THESE TIRES. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I AM ALSO DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS APPARENTLY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM HAS NOT RESULTED IN A RECALL. THESE ARE EXPENSIVE TIRES AND SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AFTER 18 MOS. AND 17,000 MILES. *NM

FAULTY BOSE SOUND SYSTEM 6 CD CHANGER. LEFT SIDE SPEAKER ON & OFF. I CALLED SO MANY TIMES TO NISSAN CORP. NO PROPER REPLY. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM. NISSAN USE FAULTY PARTS AND NEVER RECALLED AND FIX THIS UNITS. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ADDING AIR TO THE TIRES, IT WAS NOTICED THE SIDEWALLS OF THE TWO FRONT TIRES WERE CRACKED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS OF A PROBLEM OTHER THAN THE CRACKED SIDEWALLS. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND AGREED TO REPLACE THE TWO FRONT TIRES. THE TWO REAR TIRES DO NOT APPEAR TO HAVE A PROBLEM. THE TIRES WERE REGULARLY ROTATED AND THE PROPER PRESSURE WAS MAINTAINED. THE TIRE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THIS WAS THE FORTH VEHICLE SEEN WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM RECENTLY. THE TIRE BRAND NAME IS EAGLE RSA AND THE SIZE IS P245/45/R18. *TR
BOUGHT THE MAXIMA NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2004, AND SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I STARTED NOTICING STEERING VIBRATIONS, WHICH WAS GETTING WORSE WITH TIME. THEY MANIFEST TYPICALLY AROUND 55 MPH. AFTER TAKING IT SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SHIMMY HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED. THE SHIMMY IS DISTRACTING, EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND PROBABLY CAUSE EXTRA WEAR AND TEAR ON FRONT STEERING COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE TIRES. AT THIS MOMENT NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FOUND FOR MY CAR. *JB
THIS IS PROBLEM #1: (I HAD SO FAR 4/5 MAJOR PROBLEMS) PURCHASED 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA BRAND NEW. WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF DRIVING THIS CAR, THE THERMOSTAT KEPT REGISTERING AT H, PINNED AT H. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN HUNTINGTON, NY, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. WAS TOLD, WHEN IT PINNS AT HOT AGAIN, BRING THE CAR IN. WELL, WHEN I DRIVING TO WORK AND THE THERMOSTAT WAS PINNED AT HOT AGAIN, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM AND THE RECEPTIONIST SAID I COULD NOT BRING MY CAR IN, IT WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY. I INFORMED HER THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE OF PROBLEM THIS CAN BE AND WHAT IF MY ENGINE CEASES? SHE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING I CAN DO, AND I CAN COME IN NEXT WEEK. I DROVE THERE ANYWAY, AND HAD TO GRAB A MECHANIC TO SEE THAT MY CAR THERMOSTAT WAS INDEED PINNED AT HOT. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A "ELECTRICAL" PROBLEM AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE THERMOSTAT, AND DASH BOARD. ALSO, WHILE ALL MY PROBLEMS WERE GOING ON, MY TRUNK POPS OPEN WHEN I REVERSE EVERY NOW AND THEN. OF COURSE, THE WONDERFUL MECHANICS AT THE SERVICE DEPT IN HUNTINGTON COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.. 4 TIRES EAGLE RS-A VSBP245/45R18 96V THE TECNICENTRO MUNDIAL INC CHARGE ME FOR REPLACE THE 4 TIRES WICH THEY HAVE A FACTORY DAMAGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND JERKS THE VEHICLE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,261 AND APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN INSPECTING THE TIRES IT WAS DISCOVERED THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR AND FRONT PASSENGER TIRE SIDEWALLS WERE CRACKED. THE TIRES ARE STILL MAINTAINING AIR PRESSURE; HOWEVER THE CRACKS ARE MORE SEVERE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN ALERTED.
FRONT STRUTS BAD FROM THE FIRST 3 MONTHS I OWNED THE CAR. ALL REAR AND FRONT DRIVER SIDE WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WHEN THE PASSENGER FRONT FAILED AT 50K, THE DEALER WOULD NOT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. I HAD COMPLAINED OF NOISE WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE NOISE. SINCE REPLACED, I DO NOT HEAR THE NOISE. NISSAN OFFERED A $200.00 SERVICE CREDIT BUT THE STRUT WAS $400 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED WITH THE DRIVER FRONT AT 3 MONTHS OLD. *JB
1) FLAT TIRE ON NISSAN MAXIMA 2004 CAR WITH 2003 MANUFACTURED GOOD YEAR EAGLE RS-A P245 45R18 96V TIRES.... 2) TIES ARE DEFECTIVE AN INDEPENDENT GOODYEAR EMPLOYEE TOLD ME SO, AND TOLD ME THEY ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON AND STILL WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED AS OF YET BUT OFFERED A $100 OFF EACH TIRE, THEY ARE $300 TIRES.. THE TIRES HAVE 24K MILES ON THEM, THE FRONT TIRES ARE WORSE THEN THE REAR BUT ALL ARE THE SAME. THE TREAD STILL HAS AT LEAST HALF THE TREAD IF NOT MORE LEFT... THERE IS SEVERE CRACKING AND IT IS POSSIBLE THEY COULD BLOW OUT ON OTHERS AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, I HAVE PICTURES I CAN SEND IF YOU SEND ME A DIRECT EMAIL ADDRESS.. 3) I TOOK THE CAR TO GOODYEAR THEY SAID THE TIRE IS DEFECTED AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BUT SENT ME ON MY WAY BECAUSE I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY A DIME FOR UNSAFE DEFECTIVE TIRES........ MAY 4, 2006 I WAS TRAVELING ON WEST ACADEMY/GREEN ST. NORTHBOUND. THE CLUTCH HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND IT MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN. (IT LITERALLY SUCKS TO THE FLOORBOARD WITH NO PLAY TO DISENGAGE TO NEUTRAL, THIS HAD HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND TWICE PRIOR, I PANICKED DIDN'T SEE THE RED LIGHT OR STOPPED TRAFFIC AND SLAMMED INTO THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AT AN ESTIMATED SPEED ON 40 MPH NEVER HITTING THE BRAKES. THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR WAS SEVERE WITH AN INSURANCE PAY OUT JUST SHY OF $10,000.00 DOLLARS. THE DAMAGE WAS ONLY TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED (THERE ARE EIGHT AIRBAGS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER COMPARTMENT) I WAS RESTRAINED BY THE SEAT BELT. IT WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR ME NOT TO BE INJURED, I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND GEAR SHIFT CAUSING SEVERE BRUISING TO MY ARMS, LEGS, CHEST AND A BUMP ON THE HEAD. *JB
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE FRONT END OF MY CAR "SHIMMY'S". WHEN APPLYING NORMAL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THIS "SHIMMY" BECOMES A BIT MORE PRONOUNCED. I HAVE HAD ALL WORK ON MY CAR DONE AT THE DEALERS SERVICE CENTER FROM WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, AND THE TECHNICIANS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE (TIRE PRESSURE, WHEEL BALANCE/ALIGNMENT, STRUTS) HAVE ALL BEEN LOOKED AT/REPLACED BUT HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY ONLINE POSTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE; THEREFORE, IT IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE AND SHOULD BE FIXED VIA A RECALL - THIS IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE A POPPING SOUND WAS HEARD FROM THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSING IT TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE STEERING FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED IN THE MAIL 4/20/06. THE NHTSA RECALL, # 05V512000, CONCERNING SEAT: FRONT ASSEMBLY: POWER ADJUST. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED ON 4/21/06 TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT WOULD BE 4/26/06, HOWEVER THE CONTACT BELIEVED THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE REMEDIED IN A TIMELY MANOR. *AK UPDATED 5/16/2006 - THE BRAKE MADE NOISE AND THE TIRE DEFLATED DUE TO DRY ROT. *NM
MY NISSAN MAXIMA 2004 MET WITH AN ACCIDENT, MAY CAR HIT THE SUV IN THE FRONT BADLY. THE DAMAGE IS EXTENSIVE. LEFT LIGHT IS GONE, RADIATOR IS BROKEN, HOOD IS UP, MUDGUARD IS DOWN AND OTHER DAMAGES. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY INSPITE OF HEAVY DAMAGE. *NM
PROBLEM #2 (OUT OF 4/5): PURCHASED 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA BRAND NEW. MY SECOND MAJOR PROBLEM, I THINK THE CAR WAS ABOUT A YEAR OLD. WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON THE STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTS TO YOUR LIKING AUTOMATICALLY. WELL, IT BROKE. SO WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE TO ME, IT WAS STUCK IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. WHEN I TRIED TO MANUALLY MOVE TO DOWN AND CLOSER TO ME SO I CAN DRIVE THE CAR, IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STUCK UPRIGHT LIKE A BUS DRIVER'S STEERING WHEEL. I HAD NOT CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP LIKE THAT. IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRIVING LIKE THAT, SINCE IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL, CONSIDERING HOW HIGH IT WAS AND CLOSE TO THE WINDSHIELD IT WAS. HUNTINGTON, NY DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART TO FIX THE STEERING WHEEL, AGAIN A ELECTRONIC PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE MY CAR FOR A FEW DAYS. I HAD TO MAKE ANOTHER COMPLAINT TO THE CORPORATE OFFICE, WHICH BY THE WAY, DOES NOTHING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THIS DEALERSHIP TREATS CUSTOMERS LIKE GARBAGE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WOMAN. ALSO, STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM, EVERY NOW AND THEN WHEN I REVERSE, MY TRUNK POPS OPEN. *NM
TRANSMISSION ON 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE JERKS VIOLENTLY WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR, AND FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR. IT ALSO SHIFTS VERY VIOLENTLY, SPORADICALLY, WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT A TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER, AFTER PERFORMING THE FLUSH, THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. AFTER RETURNING FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE CAR, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW, REBUILT TRANSMISSION. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE NISSANS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN FOR QUALITY AND NEVER NEEDED THE AMOUNT OF MAJOR REPAIR SERVICES THAT I'VE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE, 110K. *TR
THE CLUTCH IN THE CONSUMER'S 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WENT TO THE FLOOR. *NM THE VEHICLE'S CLUTCH WENT TO THE FLOOR WHICH DID NOT ALLOW THE CONSUMER TO SHIFT GEAR AND RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP. THE CONSUMER COULD FORCE THE TRANSMISSION INTO THE NEXT GEAR BUT WORRIED ABOUT THE DAMAGE TO THE GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED EACH DAY THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. *NM

AT A RECENT OIL SERVICE THE TIRES ON MY CAR WERE FOUND TO HAVE DEEP CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALLS. THE TREAD ON THE TIRES APPEARS TO BE GOOD FOR 10K MORE MILES. HOWEVER I HAD TO HAVE THEM CHANGED AS THEY AMY FAIL DUE TO RUPTURE OF THE SIDEWALLS. *JB
FRONT BRAKES PULSATE VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKING. FRONT END SHIMMIES CONSTANTLY. ORIGINAL FRONT TIRES WORE OUT WITHIN 10,000 MILES. NISSAN CONTINUES TO IGNORE THE DESIGN FLAWS AND COMPONENT FAILURES (ROTOR FAILURE) IN THIS 2004 MAXIMA. OWNERS ARE GETTING NOTHING BUT THE RUNAROUND WHEN VEHICLE SAFETY IS A HUGE ISSUE. *JB

MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING LOUD RATTLING NOISE WHEN DRIVING AND SEVERE SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. IN APRIL 2006 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED THE STRUTS AND SUSPENSION NEEDED TO BE PLACED AND INSISTED I PAY FOR IT. THE STRUTS HAD BEEN REPLACED IN THE CAR PREVIOUSLY IN APRIL OF 2005 ALONG WITH DEFECTIVE ROTORS. THEY ALSO SUGGESTED THE BELTS BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE CRACKING. I HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR TWO YEARS YET, BUT PARTS ON THIS VEHICLE CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION EXHIBITING ALL SIGNS OF DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING. ADDITIONALLY I REPLACED TWO OF THE ORIGINALLY TIRES (GOODYEAR RSA 18") AT 12K AND 20K MILES FOR TEARS IN THE SIDEWALLS. I HAVE REVIEWED THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON FILE FOR THIS VEHICLE FROM OTHER OWNERS AND UNFORTUNATELY I SHARE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MY MAXIMA. *NM
I NOTICE A FEW DAYS AGO THAT 3 OUT OF 4 TIRES ON MY NISSAN MAXIMA 2004 HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS ON THE SIDE WALLS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I CAME ACROSS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY THE NHTSA IS REQUIRED. LETS NOT WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN. THE TIRES ARE MANUFACTURED BY GOODYEAR. THE MODEL OF THE TIRES ARE EAGLE RS-A P245/45 R18. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON FRIDAY NIGHT THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY. ON SATURDAY MORNING THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS FLAT. THE SIDE WALL WAS SPLIT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS NOTICED ALL FOUR TIRES HAD A SPLIT ON THE SIDE WALL, BUT ONLY ONE HAD GONE FLAT. THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE SIDEWALL DAMAGE.
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE AND FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. FIRST THE AC VENT INSIDE OF THE CAR BROKE GOING INWARD. THEN THE AC SENSORY WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET AND ALMOST WAS HIT FROM BEHIND. THEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING . WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT WOULD JERK AND KNOW IT IS HAVING A PROBLEM DOWN SHIFTING. THIS IS THE WORST CAR EVER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INNER AND OUTER SIDEWALLS OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE CRACKING ON ALL FOUR TIRES. AFTER REPLACING THE TIRES, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE. THE CONTACT NO LONGER HAS THE TIRES, RECEIPTS, DOT NUMBER, OR PROOF OF HAVING OWNED THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE GOODYEAR RSA. THE PURCHASE DATE AND RECALL NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,049.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH AND THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ARE LOCATED ON THE SAME LEVER. WHEN PUSHING UP TO TURN THE RIGHT SIGNAL ON, THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH INADVERTENTLY GETS TURNED ON, CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS TO GO OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE AT NIGHT AT A HIGHWAY SPEED OF 55 MPH. EVER SINCE THE FIRST DAY I PURCHASED MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA, I NOTICED SOMETHING RATHER ODD. AT 50 MPH, EVEN LESS AT MOST TIMES, THERE IS A TERRIBLE SHIMMY WHICH CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE INNER AND OUTER SIDEWALLS OF THE TIRES EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE CRACKING ON THE TWO FRONT AND REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRES. THE VEHICLE RODE POORLY ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SPECIAL TIRE REPLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR THESE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TIRE MANUFACTURER FOR INSPECTION; HOWEVER, THE TIRES WERE EXCLUDED FROM THE PROGRAM BECAUSE IT EXCEEDED THE EXPIRATION DATE. THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS NO PRIOR NOTIFICATION OF THE "SPECIAL TIRE REPLACEMENT PROGRAM" TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE REMEDY. THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE CONTACT FILED A SAFETY COMPLAINT ON THE OTHER THREE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE (ODI NUMBER 10259643). THE DOT NUMBER AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,913 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,800.

GOODYEAR PROVIDED SOME RELIEF BY DISCOUNTING THE REPLACEMENT COST TO $264.15. UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHER OWNERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AND GOODYEAR TIRES, I DISCOVERED THERE WERE 113 REGISTERED OWNERS WHO HAD THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM, EXTENSIVE SIDEWALL CRACKS. TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SINCE 2004 BOUGHT IT WITH 10000 MILES ON IT USED FROM A DEALER. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION AT 52000 MILES AND HAVE HAD THE CAR IN MANY SHOPS INCLUDING NISSAN FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. I AM ONE OF MANY OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS ISSUE. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS LATE FROM 2ND TO 3RD AND EARLY FROM 3RD TO 4TH CAUSING A LARGE JOLT IN THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY AND IN THE CITY. (1) OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS, I HAVE DOCUMENTED A MAINTENANCE ISSUE THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. I ORIGINALLY EXPLAINED TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS MALFUNCTIONING. (2) THE CLUTCH PEDAL WOULD RANDOMLY AND INTERMITTENTLY LOOSE PRESSURE/RESISTANCE WHILE I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE. (3) I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR, AT WHICH THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOM I WAS EXPERIENCING (BECAUSE IT IS RANDOM AND INTERMITTENT). HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT DRIVING IT UNDER THE CONDITIONS THAT I WAS DRIVING. THEY WOULD TEST DRIVE IT FOR A FEW MILES AND CONCLUDE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. I FIND A DISCREPANCY IN THIS METHODOLOGY, BECAUSE SOME SYMPTOMS MAY ONLY OCCUR AFTER PROLONGED CONTINUOUS USE (WHICH IS APPARENTLY THE CASE FOR MY VEHICLE). ON ONE OCCASSION, I WAS NOT ABLE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE, AND WAS STRANDED IN A MIDDLE LANE OF I-75. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE RESULTING INOPERABILITY OF THE VEHICLE WHILE IN TRAFFIC POSES AN IMMEDIATE THREAT FOR REAR-END AND POSSIBLY OTHER TYPES OF CRASHES. I ALSO TRAVEL WITH MY TWO KIDS (AGES 6 AND 5) QUITE REGULARLY, AND I CAN NO LONGER PUT THEM AT RISK.
'04 MAXIMA, MAINTAINED REGULARLY, ORIGINAL OWNER, PURCHASED IN SUMMER OF '03(FIRST BATCH OF ASSY. LINE); STEREO HEAD UNIT SAT BUTTON, BUT NO SAT CONNECTIONS IN BACK OF HEAD UNIT. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT ONE YEAR ('06) NEAR CHRISTMAS TO TREAT MYSELF TO HAVE SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO INSTALLED IN MY CAR AS I WAS PROMISED BY THE ADVERTISEMENTS AT TIME OF PURCHASE. THE TECH HAD ALREADY MOUNTED THE ANTENNA TO MY ROOF AND THEN WAS READY TO INSTALL THE TUNER AND CONNECT IT TO THE STEREO HEAD UNIT AND COULD NOT LOCATE THE JACKS ON THE BACK OF THE HEAD UNIT TO CONNECT THE SATELLITE TUNER. THE SERVICE ADVISOR EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THEY HAVE RUN INTO THIS ON THE CARS THAT CAME OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF PRODUCTION OF THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. THE CARS HAVE A SAT BUTTON ON THE DASH BUT NO CONNECTIONS ON THE HEAD UNIT TO CONNECT ONE. ALSO EXPLAINED IT HAD SINCE BEEN CORRECTED BY NISSAN ON ALL CARS OF THE SAME MODEL MADE AFTER, THAT HAD THE APPROPRIATE STEREO HEAD UNIT INSTALLED TO ACCOMMODATE SATELLITE RADIO TUNERS. HE THEN CONTINUED TO TELL ME THAT NISSAN WAS NOT COVERING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE HEAD UNIT FOR THOSE CUSTOMERS REQUESTING SATELLITE RADIO INSTALLATION. THIS WAS A BIG BLOW TO ME AND I COULD NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE HEAD UNIT MYSELF. THE TECH HAD TO UN-MOUNT THE ANTENNA LEAVING CHUNKS OF PAINT MISSING FROM MY ROOF AND I HAD SINCE HAD TO INSTALL AN AFTERMARKET PORTABLE SATELLITE RADIO WHICH ALWAYS GIVES ME STATIC PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE NISSAN SHOULD COVER THIS REPLACEMENT SINCE THE CAR WAS ADVERTISED AT TIME OF PURCHASE TO HAVE THE OPTION OF SATELLITE RADIO. I ONLY OPTED OUT AT TIME OF PURCHASE BECAUSE I FELT COMFORTABLE WITH THE FACT THAT I COULD ALWAYS COME BACK AND GET IT INSTALLED. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT ISSUE AT TIME OF PURCHASE, THE DEALER WOULD HAVE FIXED THAT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE SALE. WHY NOT AFTER THE FACT? MY GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES HAVE SPLIT ALONG THE SIDEWALL. THE LOCAL RETAILER TOLD ME THESE TIRES ARE KNOWN TO DO THAT AND THAT GOODYEAR HAS A STRICT POLICY OF NOT ALLOWING ANY REPLACEMENT OR PRO-RATED CREDIT TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT TIRES. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT WHICH COULD CAUSE FATALITIES IN THE EVENT OF TIRE FAILURE. THESE TIRES NEED TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY! I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW IN JULY, 2003 AND THESE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND ROTATED EVERY 7,500 MILES WITH PROPER INFLATION. THERE'S PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT ON THESE TIRES AND THEY SHOULD HAVE LASTED ALOT LONGER. THE TIRES ARE SPLITTING ALONG THE SIDEWALL.
