PASSENGER SIDE STRUT MAKES NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. *AK
STERING AND VIBRATION AT 50 TO 70 MPH. *AK
BAD STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY AT 45-60 MPH, THEN SEVERE VIBRATION AT 75 MPH (HIGHWAY CRUISING SPEED). MANUFACTURER CONTACTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, INDICATED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE A SOLUTION AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLE.*AK
THE MAXIMA HAD 1600 MILES ON IT AND THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT FAILED. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; NO EXCESSIVE ROADS ENCOUNTERED.*AK THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED BOTH FRONT STRUTS. AT 5500 MILES THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT IS BEGINING TO FAIL YET AGAIN. NISSAN IS KNOWINGLY REPLACING DEFECTIVE STRUTS WITH DEFECTIVE STRUTS! THE REASON IS THAT NO OTHER STRUTS ARE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE
ON TWO (2) SEPERATE OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE (2004 NISSAN MAXIMA) WHEN MY BRAKES HAVE WENT OUT COMPLETELY. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ON THE FLOOR WHEN I WENT TO USE, LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKING POWER WHATSOEVER. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND TURNING THE ENGINE OFF, THE BRAKES RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION AFTER A FEW MINUTES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. CLEARLY, THIS MALFUNCTION IS THE RESULT OF AN ELECTRICAL/COMPUTER PROBLEM.

I AM EXPERIENCING SEVERE VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING OF MY NEW 2004 MAXIMA. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS FOR ALIGNMENT, ROTATIONS AND BALANCING - I WAS ADVISED I HAD A BAD TIRE BY THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. THEY SUGGESTED I GO TO THE LOCAL GOOD YEAR DEALER AND HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED. UPON ARRIVING AT THE GOOD YEAR DEALER - I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD REPLACED SEVERAL TIRES FOR THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR AND IT'S ABILITY TO ABSORB OSCILLATION OF THE TIRE.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT 50 TO 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES, TWICE THEY HAVE BALANCED THE TIRES, THEY RECALIBRATED THEIR BALANCING MACHINE AND ONCE THEY MADE AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE STEERING COLUMN. PROBLEM STILL EXIST WITH ONLY 7800 MILES. *LA
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA--FRONT STRUTS DEFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE OF AUTO...DEALER REPLACED STRUTS...NOW WITH 3000 MILES ON THEM , THEY ARE BAD AGAIN, AND I'M GOING TO DEALER TO SEE WHAT THEY SAY. *JB
PROBLEM 1 OF 5: PURCHASED 2004 MAXIMA BRAND NEW ON 4/12/04. END OF JUNE, 2004, NOTICED TEMPERATURE GAUGE PINNED AT HOT. ALSO, SOMETIMES WHEN I REVERSE, MY TRUNK POPS OPEN. CALLED NISSAN TO BRING CAR IN. WAS NOT GIVEN APPOINTMENT UNTIL 7/12/04. OF COURSE, THE WONDERFUL MECHANICS AT NISSAN HUNTINGTON COULD NOT EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM AND SAID MY CAR WAS OPERATING PROPERTY AT THAT TIME. GAVE ME MY CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD THE NEXT TIME MY CAR IS PINNED AT HOT, BRING IT RIGHT IN. THEN, A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE THERMOSTAT WAS PINNED AT HOT AGAIN. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN THE WOMAN WHO ANSWERS THE PHONE FOR SERVICE WOULD NOT LET ME BRING MY CAR IN DESPITE WHAT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME A FEW WEEKS BACK. SHE WOULD NOT GIVE ME AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. I TOLD HER THAT THIS COULD BE A MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEM AND WHAT IF MY CAR ENGINE FAILS. SHE DID NOT CARE. SO I DROVE THE CAR IN ANYWAY, AND HAD TO CUT THE LINE AT THE SERVICE DEPT AND GRAB A MECHANIC SO THEY CAN SEE FOR THEMSELVES THAT THE THERMOSTAT WAS INDEED PINNED AT HOT AND I AM NOT CRAZY. THIS WAS ON 8/11/04, MY CAR IS JUST ABOUT 4 MONTHS OLD NOW. THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY DETERMINED FAULTY TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND PLACED GAUGE. I ONLY HAD 3,992 MILES ON THIS CAR. THE DEALERSHIP DID GIVE ME A RENT A CAR BECAUSE I MADE A BIG STINK ABOUT MY CAR BEING BROKEN AND I WOULD BE OUT OF A CAR FOR 4 DAYS. *NM
FRONT END VIBRATES WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES FOR TIRE ROTATION, TIRE REPLACEMENT AND LOWERING OF AIR PRESSURE IN TIRES. ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED AND I AM TOLD THIS IS HOW NISSAN CARS DRIVE. *AK THE CONSUMER HAS REQUESTED THAT NHTSA DISREGARD THIS COMPLAINT. *SC THE CONSUMER WAS RESPONDED TO ABOUT HER REQUEST TO DROP THE COMPLAINT. GOOD YEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES SIZE 245-45R18 THESE ARE ORGINAL EQ. ON MY 2004 NISSIAN MAXIMA. THESE TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED SPLITS ONLY ON THE INSIDE SIDE WALLS OF ALL 4 TIRES THEY HAVE 32000 MILES ON THEM W/SOME GOOD TREAD. I FEAR THESE SPLITS WILL SEPERATE THE TREAD AND CAUSE SOME DAMAGE OR AN ACCIDENT. THE SPLITS WERE BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION WHEN I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED THE OTHER DAY. YET ON THE OUTSIDE SIDE WALL EVERYTHING APEARS TO BE OK. THIS IS POSSIBLELY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION DUE TO THE FACT THESE SPLITS IN THE SIDE WALLS ARE ONLY ON THE THE INSDE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRES.
WHEN DRIVING 5 MPH A RATTLING NOISE CAME FROM THE FRONT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT FRONT STRUT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THAT PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NO SPECIFIC SPEED, THE FRONT END SHIMMIES AND VIBRATES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR INSPECTION. THE LEFT FRONT STRUTS WERE REPLACED TWICE AND THE RIGHT FRONT STRUTS FIVE TIMES. THE VEHICLE IS AWAITING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT FOR THE SIXTH TIME. HOWEVER, THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE, BUT VERY UNSAFE.
THE SUN ROOF GLASS SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO A REST AREA BEFORE THE GLASS ENTERED THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHO PROVIDED A TEMPORARY FIX BY REMOVING THE LOOSE PIECES OF GLASS, AND COVERING THE SUNROOF WITH A PLASTIC MATERIAL. INVESTIGATION #PE04-035 WAS ISSUED ON THIS PROBLEM. *AK *NM
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AND THE TRANSMISSION SEEM TO HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE. NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY DEAD. I HAVE IT SERVICED AT A NISSAN DEALER OFTEN (MOST RECENT 3 MONTHS BACK) AND EVERYTHING SEEM TO BE GOOD. I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T PIN POINT THE ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED HEAVILY. IT WAS HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL. *AK THE DEALER EXCHANGED THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER AND THE NEW VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO PULL. *SC *JB

WHILE DRIVING SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED. NO INJURIES REPORTED. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE GLASS WAS DEFECTIVE,AND REPLACED IT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE VEERD TO THE RIGHT. VEHICLE VEERED EVEN MORE TO THE RIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. DEALER HAS PERFORMED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT TWICE WITHIN A THIRTY DAY PERIOD.*AK
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SINCE PURCHASING IT BRAND NEW. WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASING THE CAR, I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO A MALFUNCTION WITH THE BRAKES. I HAVE SPENT OVER $1,500 SINCE KEEPING THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPAIRED. I AM ON MY FOURTH SET OF TIRES AND HAVE HAD THREE ALIGNMENTS AND MY FRONT END INSPECTED. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE AN ENGINE MOUNT. IN 2006 MY AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT AND I SPENT OVER $500 HAVING THAT REPAIRED. NOW I AM IN NEED OF A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THERE IS INTERNAL DAMAGE DUE TO THE CLUTCH SLIPPING EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN AUTOMATIC CAR. I HAVE TWO FRIENDS WITH THE SAME MODEL/YEAR CAR AND THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR OR THE SAME PROBLEMS. ONCE OF MY FRIENDS JUST REPLACED HIS TRANSMISSION IN HIS 2004 MAXIMA. THIS CAR HAS COST ME AT LEAST $5,000 IN REPAIRS SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED IT AND I HAVE NEVER EVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON ANYTHING. I KNOW THAT NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THE DEFECTS IN THE 2004 MAXIMA, BUT ARE NOT OWNING UP TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IN TAKING CARE OF ALL OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT AND TALKED ABOUT WITH DIFFERENT 2004 MAXIMA OWNERS. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED TWICE. THE BODY STYLE OF THE CAR IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT THE CAR ITSELF IS A PIECE OF CRAP DUE TO POOR MECHANICS. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS A STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT SPEEDS EXCEEDING 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS A VIOLENT VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITHOUT A SATISFIABLE RESOLUTION.*AK
I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON APRIL 2004. ON JUNE 2004 IT BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SHOCK ABSORBERS OR STRUTS. THIS HAPPENS 2 OR 3 TIMES A YEAR AND EVERY TIME THE DEALER CHANGES THEM FOR NEW ONES THEY BREAK AGAIN. THEY CHANGED THEM LAST TIME ON JANUARY 4, 2007 AND THE BANGING NOISE IS STARTING AGAIN WHICH IS THE SIGN THAT THEY WILL BREAK SOON. AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES THIS WILL BECOME A BURDEN. *NM

I HAVE A 2004 MAXIMA WITH LESS THAN 1500 MILES. THERE IS A NOISE APPARENTLY COMING FROM THE TIRES THAT SOUNDS LIKE A RINGING NOISE. WHEN GOING OVER A LINE CRACK IN THE PAVEMENT OR BUMP BETWEEN 20-50 MPH IT SOUNDS LIKE A HOLLOW RINGING SOUND. I UPGRADED TIRES FROM FACTORY INSTALLED TO MICHELINS AT ABOUT $500 MORE AND THE RINGING CONTINUES. WHAT GIVES? *NM
SHIMMIED IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50- -60 MPH TO THE POINT OF LOOSING STEERING CONTROL OF 2004, NISSAN MAXIMA. THE DEALER ROTATED THE TIRES AT MY EXPENSE AT LEAST 3 TIMES, WHICH HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. NO DEALER'S RESPONSE TO THE DILEMMA, AND, I HATE DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE OF THIS UNSAFE CONDITION.*AK
PURCHASE NEW CAR DEC 2003, CAR VIBRATED WHILE BRAKING AND MAKING A RUBBING NOISE WHEN TURNING, THIS WAS AT 11,000 MILES, ROTORS WERE TURNED AND THEN PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN AND THE ROTOR WERE TURNED A SECOND TIME. THE ROTORS WERE TURNED A THIRD TIME WHEN THE NOISE RETURNED THE FOURTH VISIT THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED AFTER MUCH PROTEST BY THE DEALERSHIP. NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN THE NOISE HAS RETURNED.. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING A DEFECT WITH THE ROTORS, STRUTS, OR BRAKE PADS.. THE BRAKE PADS WERE ALSO REPLACED AFTER I INSISTED THAT THEY WERE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO SAY THAT THE ROTORS GET HOT AND CAN WARP WHEN YOU HIT WATER ON THE ROAD, SURELY THE ROTORS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AFTER A YEAR OF NORMAL WEAR. I ALSO HAVE A 1997 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER AND A 95 4-RUNNER AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS. PLEASE ADVISE. *NM

THE CAR HAS AROUND 10,000 MILES NOW AND ABOUT HALF OF THEM WERE PUT ON GOING TO THE DEALERS. I SENT A REGISTERED LETTER MAY 25-2004 TO CONSUMERS AFFAIRS, AND THEN NISSAN FLEW IN A TECHNICAL SPECIALIST FROM CA. HE TOOK A FEW PICTURES OF THE TIRES. GUESS WHAT? IT NEEDED A BALANCE JOB. NOW, THE DEALER HAS 2 MORE TIRES ORDERED, IVE HAD TO GET ALL THESE TIRES MYSELF, BUT THE LAST TWO. IM NO TECHNICAL SPECIALIST BUT I BELIEVE ITS THE CAR NOT THE TIRES. LOOKS LIKE THE LEMON LAW IS NEXT!!!*AK
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR A LOUD POPPING NOISE. I BECAME STARTLED AND SWERVED. I LOOKED UP AND SAW THAT THE GLASS ON MY SKYVIEW SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. THERE WERE NO CARS NEXT TO ME NOR ANY TREES OVERHEAD. *AK

MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I TURNED THE KEY AND SHUT THE DRIVER DOOR. WHEN I SHUT THE DOOR THE SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED ALL OVER ME AND THE CAR. THERE WAS GLASS EVERYWHERE. THE GLASS THAT WAS LEFT ON THE SUNROOF WAS POINTING UPWARD. I GOT CUT ON MY HANDS AND MY HEAD WAS FILLED WITH GLASS. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR SOUND OR NOTICE WHATSOEVER. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS IT CAN BE A SERIOUS HAZARD TO PEOPLE THAT ARE DRIVING AND THIS INCIDENT OCCURS. *AK

I HAVE HAD MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA FOR 1 MONTH AND HAVE THE SWITCH CONTROLLING THE SUN ROOF NO LONGER WORKS. I BROUGHT IT BACK TOTHE DEALER TO REPAIR AND THEY ORDERED THE PARTS FROM NISSAN. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 3 MONTHS AND THE PARTS HAVE NOT COME IN. NISSAN SAYS THEY ARE ON BACKORDER AND HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THRE WILL BE AVAILABLE. THEY SAID IT COULD BE 1 MORE MONTH OR MAYBE 6 MORE MONTHS. THEY DO NOT KNOW.THIS IS A $900 DOLLAR OPTION THAT DOES NOT WORK, AND NISSAN SAYS THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE PARTS TO FIX IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ABS BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD. WHEN TURNING, A CLANKING LOUD NOISE WAS ALSO HEARD. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALS ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED.*AK *SB *NM
WHILE DRIVING A 2004 MAXIMA ( A RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE) ON INTERSTATE 91 IN CT. ON 3/7/2004, OUT OF NO WHERE THE GLASS ROOF EXPLODED OUTWARD. GLASS COVERED ME AND THE BACKSEAT OF THE CAR. NOTHING HIT THE CAR, I WENT UNDER NO OVERPASSES, THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME AT THE TIME. I NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND SUFFERED MINOR SCRATCHES TO FOREHEAD AND ARM FROM THE SHATTERED GLASS. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS WAS SOME SORT OF DEFECT AND WANT THIS DOCUMENTED AS TO PREVENT FURTHER INJURY TO OTHER DRIVER'S OF THIS MAKE VEHICLE.*AK
WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. I OPENED THE VISOR OF THE SKYVIEW AND THE ENTIRE GLASS WAS SHATTERED. I GOT OUT THE CAR AND ASKED THE GUY BEHIND ME IN A VAN IF HE SAW SOMETHING HIT MY CAR, HE SAID HED DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING HIT MY CAR. THE SKYVIEW WAS POPPED UP LIKE SOMEONE HAD PUNCHED IT OUT FROM THE INSIDE. THE ENTIRE GLASS WAS SHATTERED. THE WEATHER THAT DAY WAS RAINY AND ABOUT 60 - 65 DEGREES. I HAD THE DEFROSTER ON 80 DEGREES FOR THE FRONT WINDOWS AND ALSO HAD THE BACK DEFROSTER ON. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND SO FAR HAVE FOUND TWO OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. *AK
THE CD PLAYER IN THE VEHICLE DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED TO PLAY THE SYSTEM IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET RESULTS. WHEN THE SYSTEM FINALLY DID START TO WORK, THE SOUND BLASTED OUT AND ONLY THE END OF THE SONG PLAYED. THE CD'S PLAYED RANDOMLY EVEN WHEN THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSE TO. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SYSTEM FOUR TIMES WITH THE SAME SYSTEM. *JB *JB
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH SUN ROOF SHATTERED. THIS CAUSED GLASS TO FALL INTO THE VEHICLE, AND ALSO DAMAGING OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE IN THE REAR OF THEM. *AK
SUN ROOF SHATTERED WHILE TRAVELING ON AN OPEN HIGHWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. GLASS FRAGMENTS RAINED INTO VEHICULE, BUT PART OF SUN ROOF FLEW OFF STRICKING AND CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO VEHICULE TRAVELING BEHIND.*AK
WHEN DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. PASSENGER LOOKED AROUND AND SAW NO VEHICLES NEAR THE CAR. OPENED THE SHADE FOR THE SKY-VIEW GLASS ROOF OF A 2004 NISSAN MAXIA AND GLASS FLEW INTO THE CAR CAUSING THE DRIVER TO SWIRVE ON THE HIGHWAY. GLASS CUT BOTH PASSANGERS HANDS, ARMS AND FACE. THE SKY-VIEW GLASS ROOF HAD APPARENTLY SHATTERED. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY THE DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED.*AK THIS IS A SKY VIEW ROOF THAT DOES NOT OPEN. THE GLASS PANEL RUNS THE LENGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT A CONVENTIONAL SUNROOF THAT POPS UP OR SLIDE REARWARD. CONSUMER BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. NOW THE GLASS PANEL LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS. CONSUMER WAS CUT BY THE GLASS CHARDES WHEN OPENING THE SHADE AND THE SHATTERED GLASS FELL INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE SHADE WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT.CW
WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50-60 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES. ALL FOUR ORGINAL TIRES WERE ROTATED AND BALANCE ON FOUR SEPERATE OCCASIONS AMONG THREE DIFFERENT SERVICE DEALERS. THE TIRE MANUFACTURE REPLACED TWO TIRES THAT WERE ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR, BUT IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE W/ A LITTLE BIT OVER 50000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION DOES "JERK" WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM WHEN CHANGING FROM 1ST. TO SECOND GEAR AND WHEN DOWNSHIFTING BETWEEN THE SAME GEARS. I TOUGH THAT WAS AA ISOLATED PROBLEM, TILL FINDING A FEW WEB SITE W/ OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE ( 003/2004 MODELS) COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO CHANGE THE MOTOR MOUNT AND I DID AS WELL AS FLUSHING THE FLUID AND NOTHING DID HAPPEN. IS MY REASONING THAT THE NHTSA SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS MATTER SINCE IT SHOWS A PATTERN AND ALSO IS UNKNOWN WHAT CAN HAPPENS W/ THE CAR IN CASE OF A COMPLETE FAILURE. THE CAR STARTED UP AND WAS RUNNING FINE. MY WIFE WENT BACK INTO THE HOUSE TO GET OUR DAUGHTER AND FOUND THE CAR HAD STALLED. THE CAR HAS NOT STARTED SINCE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS SITUATION, BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE CAR JUSTED STALLED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS COMING ON, LEAKING SUNROOF, CD NOT WORKING, A FOG/CONDENSATION BEHIND CENTER CONSOLE SCREEN, AND INTERIOR MOLDING COMING LOOSE. 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SL- DESIGN DEFECT IN SHIFT KNOB ATTACHING MECHANISM MAKES KNOB VERY LOOSE AND LIKELY TO COME OFF IN HAND. THIS ALSO EXPOSES A SOMEWHAT POINTED METAL SHIFTING SHAFT TO DIRVER AND OCCUPANTS. MY SHIFT KNOB CAME OFF IN MY HAND WHILE DRIVING. *AK
WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT 50+ MPH, STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES BADLY. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER AND THEY REBALANCED WHEELS AND TIRES. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. COMPLAINED TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. *AK
STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES EXCESSIVELY AT ANY SPEED. IT DOES IT MORE WHEN DRIVER POSITION IS SET TO 1. HAVE TRIED REDOING THE SETTING STARTING FROM POSITION 2 BUT DOESN'T WORK. TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER BUT UNABLE TO FIND CAUSE. I NOTICED THERE ARE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. NISSAN SAID THEY WERE GOING TO TEST A 2004 MAXIMA THEY KNEW DIDN'T HAVE PROBLEMS TO TRY AND FIND THE ISSUE. HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. I HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE WHICH IS PROBABLY BEFORE EACH 7500 MILE REQUIREMENT. TIRE PRESSURE IS MAINTAINED ADEQUATELY AS WELL. SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. TIRES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION ONLY 22000 MILES 99% OF THAT IS DRIVEN ON THE FREEWAY DAILY.*AK
