I GUESS THERE HAVE TO BE AN ACCIDENT OR SOMEBODY GETS KILLED BEFORE YOU (NISSAN) WILL TAKE SOME ACTION. IT SADDENS ME TO KNOW THAT THE CAR MANUFACTURES DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CITIZENS THAT ARE PURCHASING THERE VEHICLES. SAD SITUATION!!!!!! *TR
HAD MY CAR PUT ON A DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE TO FIND OUT WHY MY ABS, SLIP, ENGINE & BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. AFTER THE RESULTS CAME BACK HERE AGAIN IS THERE ANOTHER TECHNICAL BULLETIN PUT OUT BY NISSAN FOR MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS MAKING GRINDING SOUNDS AND TRIGGERS THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. THE BRAKES WILL SUDDENLY PULSATE WHEN ENGAGED. I WAS TOLD THIS IS HAPPENING BECAUSE: DUE TO CORROSION ENTERING THE REAR TIRES. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT NISSAN HAS A KNOWN FAILURE OF THE ABS FOR THIS MODEL VEHICLE. *TR
2006 NISSAN MAXIMA 3.5SL SLAMS INTO GEAR IT IS LOUD AND SCARY AND IS THE CAR JERKING OCCURS WHEN DRIVING FORWARD ON A STRAIGHT AWAY AND WHEN YOU PUT IT DRIVE OR REVERSE. HAD TO HAVE MOTOR MOUNTS PUT ON CAR BECAUSE OF THE HARD SLAMMING, DEALER CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID STILL KNOW CHANGE, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION NEVER SHOWED UP ON THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK DID KEEP THE PARTS WHEN MOTOR MOUNTS WERE CHANGED OUT, BUT I THINK THEY ARE BROKEN AGAIN BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHIFTS. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME IN OUR MAXIMA FROM WORK AND WHEN SHE PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FELT VERY SOFT AND THE PEDAL TRAVEL WAS A LOT MORE THAN NORMAL. SHE WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND STOPPED AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AND CALLED ME AT WORK TO COME AND LOOK AT THE CAR. I DROVE IT AND NOTICED ALSO THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS MUCH SOFTER AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT FARTHER TO THE FLOOR. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON IN THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD STOP WHEN I BRAKED HARD SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE ABOUT 5 MILES TO OUR NISSAN DEALER. WHILE DRIVING THERE I HEARD A CLUNK/THUMP SOUND SEVERAL TIMES FROM UNDER THE CAR AND THE CAR WOULD SLOW DOWN AND SHUDDER A BIT. I HAD TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL DOWN A LOT MORE THAN NORMAL TO GET THE CAR UP TO 50 MPH. THE NISSAN DEALER FOUND THAT THE BOTH REAR ABS SENSORS WERE FAILING. THEY SAID THE ABS SENSORS WERE RUBBING ON DEBRIS WHICH HAD ACCUMULATED IN THE HUB CAVITY. THEY HAD TO CLEAN OUT THE DRAIN FOR THE CAVITY AND REPLACED BOTH DAMAGED ABS SENSORS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE HUB CAVITY DESIGN WAS A FAULTY ONE IF IT LET DEBRIS ACCUMULATE AND JEOPARDIZE AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE LIKE THE ABS SYSTEM. THERE APPARENTLY WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THIS ISSUE- BUT NO RECALL HAD TAKEN PLACE. I WASN'T REAL HAPPY ABOUT THE $975 REPAIR BILL.
THE WEEP HOLE IN MY REAR AXLE HUB BECAME PLUGGED AND CAUSED A FAILURE OF THE ABS SYSTEM. THE REAR SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ($900). I WAS LUCKY? I SOMEHOW AVOIDED THE FAILURE OF THE MAIN SENSOR ($2,500). THE NISSAN SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE TO PREVENT THIS AND ACKNOWLEDGED IT AS A DESIGN FLAW. THIS IS A SAFETY AND COST ISSUE. IT IS WELL KNOWN. THE BULLETIN BOARDS ARE RIFE WITH PEOPLE WHO DISCONNECT THEIR ABS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T OR WON'T PAY THE HUGE REPAIR BILLS. THERE IS EVEN A RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR PREVENTING A RECURRENCE AFTER THE REPAIR ON THE INTERNET. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL TO GET IT RETROFITTED BEFORE THE SYSTEM FAILS? *TR
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA - THE ABS SYSTEM HAS FAILED, NISSAN IS CLAIMING A $2000 REPAIR. I HAVE KNOWN AND READ OF SEVERAL DOZEN OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER FAILURE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA MILAGE 68000. AFTER DRIVING IT FOR FEW MONTHS (MILAGE AROUND 97000) THE TRANSMISSION WENT BAD, AND STARTED SKIPPING AND HARD SHIFTING WHILE CHANGING GEAR FROM 2ND TO 3RD THERE IS HARD SHIFTING (JERKING) AND WHILE SHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR IT SKIPS AND THE RPM INCREASE WHILE THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATES AT THAT TIME. WHEN I GOOGLED THIS ISSUE I FOUND THAT ALOT OF NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS HAVE THIS ISSUE. I THINK NISSAN HAS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION BUILT INTO THESE CARS. NISSAN NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO FIX THIS ISSUE, A RECALL HOPEFULLY !. THANKS *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONSTANT AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2006 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 90K MILES. TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WHEN GOING FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE, WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND SUBSEQUENTLY ACCELERATING AND OCCASIONALLY WITHOUT ANY RATIONALE- SIMPLY PAUSES, THEN JERKS INTO GEAR- OFTEN WHEN IN AN INTERSECTION. IT TYPICALLY IT HAPPENS WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARMER THAN NOT. A TRANSMISSION SERVICE AND FLUSH HAS BEEN DONE BY DEALER- AND THEY 'SAID' THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, IT CONTINUES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING AND RANDOMLY SHIFTING GEARS. IN ADDITION, WHEN DECELERATING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO JERK AND SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,067.
MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT 75000 MILES. ACCORDING TO AAMCO, I WILL NEED A NEW OR REBUILT TRANSMISSION. CAR JERKS INTO 1ST GEAR AT LOW SPEED. WHEN LOOKING ONLINE I SAW NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE MINE, INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE IS A DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS VIOLENTLY JERKING. WHEN SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT BETWEEN GEARS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE DEALER MADE TWO ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,987. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55-60 MPH AND ATTEMPTED TO INCREASED SPEED WHEN THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,011.
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. AT 60,000 MILES OR SO, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. ALSO HARD SHIFTS FROM REVERSE TO NEUTRAL AND NEUTRAL TO FIRST. I HAVE MAINTAINED THE TRANSMISSION PROPERLY. IT TURNS OUT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET COMPLAINING ABOUT THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. IT IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT WHICH HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A SPORADIC OCCURRENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT YET CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,830.
VEHICLE NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY, TRANSMISSON SLIPS, LOUD BANG FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN NEEDS TO.VEHICLE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 74,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UNDER 30 MPH ON A LOCAL STREET MY BRAKES STARTED TO MAKE A "THUMPING" NOISE. THE THUMPING CONTINUED ON AND OFF FOR A FEW WEEKS GRADUALLY GETTING WORSE. I THOUGHT MY BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OR I HAD A BAD ROTOR. I REPLACED MY BRAKE PADS AND INSPECTED THE ROTORS. THE NEXT DAY THE SOUND WAS BACK. I TOOK THE CAR INTO MIDAS TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED. THE GUYS FROM MIDAS TOLD ME THE ISSUE WAS MY ANTI LOCK BRAKES AND THE NOISE I WAS HEARING WAS THE ANTI LOCK BREAKS ACTIVATING. THEY ALSO INDICATED THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM NISSAN ON THE ABS ACTUATOR DUE TO THE NUMBER OF ISSUES SEEN WITH THE ABS ACTUATOR. WHEN I GOT HOME I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW MANY ISSUES WERE BEING REPORTED ON THE NISSAN MAXIMA ABS ACTUATOR. A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING HOME MY BRAKES WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND PUMP THE BRAKES TO REGAIN PRESSURE. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. IT COST ME $1000 TO REPAIR THE ABS REAR SENSORS. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO NOTED THAT THEY ROUTINELY HAVE PEOPLE COME IN FOR THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE TO COME BACK IN TO HAVE THE ACTUATOR FIXED AFTER THE SENSORS ARE FIXED. THE ACTUATOR IS AN ADDITIONAL $2000. I CONTACTED NISSAN (1-866-799-1690) AND SPOKE TO DAVID AND SHEENA. VERY POOR SERVICE AND I ACTUALLY HAD TO "CONVINCE" THEM THAT MY BRAKES GOING OUT WAS A BIG DEAL. I ASKED WHY A TECHNICAL BULLETIN HAD BEEN PUT OUT FOR THE ABS ACTUATOR, BUT NO RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUES. I WAS TOLD "THERE ARE TECHNICAL BULLETINS FOR FIXING ENGINES BUT THAT MEANS NOTHING". I ASKED TO BE REIMBURSED AND IT TOOK THEM OVER A WEEK TO GET BACK TO ME. I NEVER GOT REIMBURSED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN HE NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIOLENTLY JERK. HE WAS THEN UNABLE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO ANY OTHER GEAR BESIDES FOURTH. THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH CONCLUDED THAT THE VALVE BODY WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 32,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 31,000. BW

2006 NISSAN MAXIMA, WHEN TRANSMISSION IS WARMED UP CAR HARD SHIFTS FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. HARD JERK WHEN DECELERATING OR ACCELERATING AFTER A SMALL DECELERATION AS WELL. BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH 67K MILES ON IT AND PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 90K. HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR SOLUTIONS AND HAVE COME ACROSS THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. SEEMS NISSAN HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHY THE PROBLEM OCCURS AND ONLY SOLUTION FOUND IS SPENDING 3-5K DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
NISSAN 2006 MAXIMA SE, TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. CAR VIOLENTLY JERKS BETWEEN 2 AND 3RD GEAR, REVS UP TO 5 RPMS. NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION AFTER THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS. OCCURRENCE IS DAILY, THE RECOMMEND 5K REPAIR BILL. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 85,000 MILES. CAR WAS VERY JERKY AT LOW SPEEDS BOTH WHEN ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING AND OFTEN WOULDN'T ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION (DANGEROUS WHEN ANTICIPATING TIME TO MAKE LEFT TURNS ACROSS TRAFFIC). I OFTEN THOUGHT I WOULD BE REAR ENDED (DUE TO THE CAR NOT ACCELERATING) OR WOULD REAR END SOMEONE BECAUSE OF THE JUMPING OF THE CAR.
THE ABS SYSTEM, SPECIFICALLY THE ACTUATOR, IN THE 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA FAILED. INITIALLY, THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT FIRST OCCURRED ON DRY PAVEMENT AT HIGHWAY SPEED (55MPH) BRAKING AND THEN ALL SUBSEQUENT BRAKING THEREAFTER, REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR ROAD CONDITION. NOW THE CAR IS IN FAIL-SAFE MODEL WHERE THE ABS SYSTEM, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, AND ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION ARE INACTIVE ON THE VEHICLE. NISSAN DEALERS ESTIMATE THE FIX TO BE APPROXIMATELY $3000, WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE REPAIR IN REPLACING THE ABS ACTUATOR. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN FLOODED AND HAS ONLY BEEN IN VERY MINOR FENDER-BENDERS (REPAINTING OF EXTERIOR PARTS). FROM MY PROSPECTIVE, IT SEEMS VERY UNUSUAL FOR THE ACTUATOR TO GO BAD AND APPEARS TO BE A DEFECTIVE UNIT. *LN
I PURCHASED MY 06 MAXIMA WHEN IT HAD 52,000 MILES. AFTER A FEW WEEKS I NOTICED THE SHIFTING IS NOT PROPER AND SUDDEN JERKING WHEN SHIFTING IN R OR D. EVENTUALLY THE JERKING GOT WORST AND CURRENTLY AT NEARLY 72,000 MILES IT HAS GOTTEN VERY SCARY. AT TIMES I FEEL LIKE SOMEONE HAS REAR ENDED THE CAR. LAST WEEK, WHILE MAKING AN EXIT FROM A HIGHWAY THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND GOT OUT OF CONTROL. I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD SLIPPED WHILE I WAS GOING AT AROUND 50 MPH. SINCE THEN I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING CONSTANTLY. I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING DEALERS AND THEY CLAIM THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THEY KNOW ABOUT REGARDING THIS MODEL YEAR. BUT AS IT SEEMS, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OR PERHAPS THOUSANDS OF POSTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM IN THE SAME EXACT MODEL MAXIMA. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE SINCE I NOTICED LAST WEEK THAT THE SLIP COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AT HIGH SPEEDS. I SURE HOPE A FATAL ACCIDENT WOULD NOT BE THE CAUSE TO WAKE UP NISSAN TO HELP RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE RECURRED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS INTERMITTENTLY BUT WOULD JERK VIOLENTLY WHILE DECELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
I PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA IN NOVEMBER 2005 BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER W/ 3 YEAR WARRANTY / 5 YEAR POWERTRAIN. I'VE DONE ALL SERVICES, MAINTENANCE, ETC. MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY (ENGINE/TRANS) JUST EXPIRED 2 MONTHS AGO. MY CAR IS DOING 54,508 MILES. ONCE IT HIT THE 54,500 MARK THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FAIL. IT WOULD JERK EXTREMELY BAD W/ A 5 SECOND DELAY FROM N - D, N - R, R - D, & D - R (ALL OF THOSE COMBINATIONS). WHILE DRIVING IT DOWNSHIFTS HARD IN SLOWS THE CAR (COULD BE FATAL). IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR W/ THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I'M CHECKED WITH THE DEALER AND THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY RELUCTANT TO FIX THE ISSUE SINCE I'M OUT OF WARRANTY. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS / SIMILAR ISSUES. I'VE SEEN COUNTLESS OF PEOPLE STATE THE SAME ISSUE WHEN APPROACHING 60K ON THE CAR. NISSAN NEEDS TO SEE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. I ALMOST HAD THE TRANSMISSION JAM/STICK WHILE AT AN INTERSECTION. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR THAT I HAD ONLY HAD SINCE 06/2010 NEEDED ITS TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THANKFULLY WE HAD BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. WELL, 5 MONTHS LATER IN MAY OF 2011, MY CAR STARTED JERKING BADLY WHEN SHIFTING AND SOMETIMES DIDN'T WANT TO GO INTO GEAR WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED IT WAS A PROBLEM ON NISSAN MODELS. WHEN THE CONSUMER INQUIRED ABOUT WHETHER IT WOULD HAPPEN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER STATED IT WAS POSSIBLE. IN JANUARY 2011, THE DEALER PERFORMED THE SAME PROCEDURE ON THE LEFT SIDE AS THEY DID FOR THE RIGHT SIDE. HOWEVER, AFTER HAVING THE SERVICE DONE, THEY DETERMINED THE ABS WAS STILL ENGAGING.
