THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED BUT THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE TO BE WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH AND ABOVE, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK VERY VIOLENTLY WHEN GOING FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEARS. 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA: ABS ACTIVATES WITH NORMAL BRAKING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IT IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT ON NISSAN'S PART. HOWEVER, THE RECALL HAS NEVER BEEN ISSUED, AND NISSAN CHARGES THOUSANDS OF $ FOR THE REPAIRS IF THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF 36,000 MILES WARRANTY. MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING A SLIP IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE OTHER DAY I TRIED TO CROSS A STREET AND IT SLIPPED ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH WITH A SEMI TRUCK THAT COULD NOT HAVE STOPPED IN TIME. IT FINALLY CAUGHT BUT WAS A CLOSE CALL. NISSAN HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADMIT OR ADDRESS THE ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND I HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR STORIES ONLINE. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO HOLD NISSAN RESPONSIBLE. OUR 2006 MAXIMA STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES. WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THERE IS A PAUSE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND THEN A VIOLENT JERK. THIS IS A SEVERE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. NISSAN NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS FIX. *TR
MY 06 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION STARTS SLIPPING AROUND 62,000. WHEN ITS GOING UP SHIFT AROUND 20-30 MPH IT STARTS TO JERK REALLY HARD. AND ALSO WHEN IM SLOWING DOWN. *TR
***FAULTY TRANSMISSION*** MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA JERKS, TAKES TIME TO ACCELERATE IN TRAFFIC, AND IT BARELY WANTS TO MOVE ONCE STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT. THE GEAR SPONTANEOUSLY GETS STUCK IN EITHER 1ST OR 5TH AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON SO THAT I CAN GET TO MY DESTINATION. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS. MY CAR HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND UPON MY RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT OTHERS (HAVE HAD/AND ARE STILL HAVING) THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT I AM EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW. 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED JERKING AND SLIPPING WHILE DRIVING. IT OCCURS QUITE OFTEN DAILY BUT THEN SOME DAYS NOT AT ALL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A 2006 MAXIMA THAT HAS A TERRIBLE PROBLEM SOMEWHERE IN THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I'M DRIVING I CAN FEEL THE CAR SLIP OUT OF GEAR AND CAUSE IT TO VIOLENTLY JERK LIKE A REAR END COLLISION EXCEPT THERE IS NOT ONE. OWN A 2006 NISSA MAXIMA. SERVICED MONTHLY AND NOW BEGINNING TO HAVE MAJOR, DANGEROUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. HARD, JERKING TRANSMISSION SHIFTS WHILE ACCELERATING OR SLOWING DOWN. TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR AND AUTO TRANSMISSION SHOP COULD NOT GET ANY READS ON PROBLEM THROUGH DIAGNOSTICS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD NISSAN DEALERSHIP WILL REPLACE TRANSMISSION FOR EST. $3500. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH MAXIMAS AS I HAVE SEEN MANY, MANY ON-LINE COMPLAINTS. IT IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. I WILL PURSUE TO GET THIS FIXED BY NISSAN AT NO COST AS IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE JERKING DOES ACTUALLY MAKE PEOPLE IN THE CAR HAVE SEVERE, QUICK UNEXPECTED BODY JERKS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 79,000 MILES STARTING TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN ACCELERATING, AROUND 20-35 MPG, THE ENGINE REVS HIGH RPM AND ACCELERATION SLOWS, AND THEN SUDDENLY JERKS INTO THE NEXT GEAR, SOMETIMES SLIGHTLY LURCHING FORWARD WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WHEN DECELERATING SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENS, THE CAR WILL REV HIGH RPMS AND THEN BANG OR JERK INTO THE NEXT GEAR. IT SEEMS TO BE MUCH WORSE WHEN ACCELERATING AND APPEARS THAT IT IS HAPPENING WHEN CHANGING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE IN OFFICIAL SITES AND USER FORUM SITES. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY NISSAN. IN THREE DAYS I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I WILL HAVE TO PAY $96 TO HAVE A DIAGNOSIS PERFORMED. NISSAN SHOULD EITHER RECALL VEHICLES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION, OR EXTEND THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY TO COVER REPAIRS WHEN MORE PEOPLE START HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND LOSING ACCELERATION, THIS COULD BE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
PURCHASED A 06 MAXIMA IN AUG 2009, IN OCTOBER OF 2010 THE CAR STARTED JERKING WHEN DRIVING IT. AT FIRST IT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN EVERY NOW AND THEN AND THEN IT WOULD JERK AND MIST EVERY OTHER DAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS BAD AND THAT IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, HAD CAR FIXED AND AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS IT STARTED JERKING, THE NISSAN SERVICE DEPT WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT NONE OF THE SENSORS DISPLAYED A PROBLEM AND ADVISED ME TO CHANGE THE GRADE OF GAS FROM PREMIUM TO MID-GRADE. I DID WHAT THEY RECOMMENDED AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO JERK AND MIST. THE JERKING WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN THE RPM WOULD QUICKLY FLIP TO 4 OR 5 ALL THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AT A SPEED OF 20-30 MPH. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN BECAUSE I BELIEVED THAT NISSAN CARS WERE VERY GOOD AND RELIABLE VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK AND HE WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS SAFELY. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAULTY VALVE BODY IN THE TRANSMISSION AND ADVISED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
AFTER TAKING MY MAXIMA TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION FREE WHEELING AND SHIFTING ERRATICALLY THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ISSUES. THEY FLUSHED THE TRANS FLUID AND SUGGESTED I GET A NEW TRANS IF THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. I WENT AND RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CVT MAXIMA TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE AGAIN TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND NOW THEY TELL ME THE TRANS VALVE BODY MAY FIX THE ISSUE BUT NOT 100% SURE AT A COST OF $1800. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT SEVERAL OTHER ITEMS WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT WHICH I HAD CHECKED AT A LOCAL GARAGE AND THEY FOUND NONE OF THE SO CALLED WORN OUT PARTS BUT THAT IS ANOTHER STORY. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW LIKE MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS. THEY NEED TO MAKE GOOD OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS HAPPY DRIVING HOME WITH NEW RIMS AFTER BUYING MY 2006 MAXIMA AND WAS TURNING INTO MY PARKING SPOT AND NEEDED TO BACK-UP BECAUSE OF SPACE RESTRICTIONS. I PLACED THE VEHICLE BACK INTO DRIVE AND IT DID NOT GO INTO GEAR, THERE WAS LAG AND A CLUNK BACK TO 1ST GEAR. HAPPY TO SAD IN LESS THAN 1 SECOND, I BECAME. THE VEHICLE HESITATED AT TIMES AND NOW IT DOES IT MORE OFTEN. EVEN WHEN I DRIVE IT CLUNKS INTO THE LOWER GEARS AND NOW THE CAR FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES FROM THE MOTOR. THE RPMS FLARE UP TO 8000 THEN CATCH GEAR WHICH MAKES MY TIRES CHIRP CAUSING MY HEAD TO GO BACK BY THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION CHANGE. *TR
2006 NISSAN MAXIMA, BAD ABS SENSOR (DUE TO WATER INTRUSION) ON RIGHT REAR WHEEL CAUSING ABS TO KICK ON WHEN NOT NECESSARY. I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW AND HAVE ALWAYS DONE ALL THE RECOMMENDED CHECKS UP. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 53,000 AND AFTER A PRICE OF 3,000 TO CORRECT THE ISSUE IN WHICH NISSAN ALREADY KNOWS ABOUT! *TR
A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT MY 2006 MAXIMA (75,000 MILES) WAS SHIFTING HARD (JERKING WITH A SLIGHT DELAY PRIOR) IN LOW GEARS, ESPECIALLY 1ST TO 2ND. THE PROBLEM ALSO OCCURRED WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE. IT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 75% OF THE TIME, BUT I COULDN'T FIND A DEFINITE PATTERN (CAR WAS COLD OR WARM.) I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED AND IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP GETTING A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT IT'S A FAULTY CASE BUSHING IN THE CENTER SUPPORT AND EVEN WITH A NEW TRANSMISSION USING THE SAME FAULTY PART, THE PROBLEM WILL ARISE AGAIN. I CONTACTED A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE STATED NISSAN DID EXTEND A TRANSMISSION WARRANTY ON SOME CARS TO 120,000, BUT MINE WAS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL. IF IT'S A PRODUCT DEFECT, NO CURRENT REMEDY WILL PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

I OWN A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR STARTED SHIFTING HARD WHEN GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND 2ND TO 3RD. IT ALSO HAS SIGNIFICANT JERKING WHEN DOWNSHIFTING OR TRYING TO GO TO THE NEXT GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AS THE ENGINE RPM'S REV AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS A LITTLE DIRTY BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY TRANSMISSION. THEY DID A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND IT DID NOT HELP AT ALL. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK 3 WEEKS LATER BECAUSE THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY NOW ARE SAYING I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION WHEN JUST 3 WEEKS AGO THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I SAID YOU HOW COME YOU COULDN'T TELL ME THAT 3 WEEKS AGO. NOW MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS GONE OFF AND I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THIS CAR. I WENT ONLINE TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS UNDER CONSUMER AFFAIRS. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL? THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP GETTING HURT. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR THE COMPANY TO DO A RECALL? I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. WHEN THEY CALLED ME BACK THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY SAID IT IS UP TO NHTSA TO ISSUE A RECALL. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION 3 TIMES, EACH MORE VIOLENT THEN THE FIRST TIME, OF A NEW 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA, ONLY 26,000 MILES ON IT, THIS IS THE 3RD. TIME IT HAS HAPPENED, ON SEPT. 18, KAHULUI, MAUI. TERRIFYING, I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AT THE STOP SIGN OF INTERSECTION, THIS WAS THE WORSE OF THE PAST TWO ACCELERATIONS THAT I HAD WITH THIS CAR. MY HUSBAND WAS WITH ME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR. IT TOOK OFF LIKE A "RACE CAR" I COULD NOT BREAK IT OR STOP CAR FROM GOING. HAD TO PULL THE KEYS OUT AND PUT IN NEUTRAL, THEN REVERSE TO GET IT TO STOP.! TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, JIMFALK, THE SERVICE DEPT. COULD NOT FIND WHAT IS WRONG, KEPT CAR FOR A WEEK, DRIVING IT TO "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM, BUT IT SEEMS TO DO IT AFTER SO MANY MONTHS, NOT BACK TO BACK, SOMETHING TRIGGERS IT OFF IT SEEMS. WE ARE STUCK WITH HIS CAR NOW, IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, AS THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE FOUND. NISSAN SENT A INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR TO MAUI TO CHECK THE CAR OUT, NISSAN HEADQUARTERS IN TENNESSEE SAID IT WILL TAKE 6-8 WEEKS TO GET A ANSWER BACK TO US, MEANWHILE WE ARE STUCK NOW WITH A RENTAL CAR BILL AS OUR WARRANTY ONLYCOVERS A LOANER IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CARS TO BE "FIXED" AND SO FAR, THE PROBLEM ANNOTE BE FOUND, SO WE ARE UP THE CREEK SO TO SPEAK AND TECHNICALLY HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER "ACCELERATION" TO TAKE PLACE IN WHICH EVENT WE COULD BE KILLED. THE POWER TRAIN MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAS A DEFECT THAT CAUSES IT TO GO OUT. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TOLD ITS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT BUT THE COMPANY REFUSES TO PAY FOR MY REPAIRS BECAUSE ITS AFTER MY WARRANTY. CAR HAS BEEN BEAUTIFULLY MAINTAINED BUT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BEGAN NOTICING HARD SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND 2ND TO 3RD AND EVEN SIGNIFICANT JERKING WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. TRANNY SLIPS AS ENGINE RPM'S REV AS WELL. THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT CAN NOT BE COUNTED ON TO DELIVER POWER OR SPEED TO THE WHEELS WHEN NEEDED AND WILL DEFINITELY BE A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN IN WET OR ICY CONDITIONS DUE TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND DISCOVERED MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHIN SECONDS. IN ADDITION, WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT THE SAME FAILURE. THE GARAGE SAW A BULLETIN FROM NISSAN REGARDING THE PROBLEM AND TOLD US THAT ADDITIONAL REPAIRS NEEDED TO BE DONE BY THE NISSAN DEALER. WE BROUGHT IT TO A NISSAN DEALER. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND TOLD US THAT REPAIRS WOULD BE AROUND $800 TO REPLACE THE SENSORS AND IF THAT DID NOT WORK, THE ANTILOCK ACTUATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WOULD COST ABOUT $1500-2000. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 60,885 MILES ON THE CAR. WE ALSO OWN ANOTHER MAXIMA. IT IS A 1998 MAXIMA WITH OVER 160,000 MILES. ON THAT OLDER MAXIMA, WE HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. I HAVE A 2006 MAXIMA AND HAD THE SITUATION ONE DAY IN AUGUST 2010 WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE THE ABS ENGAGED. THERE WAS A GRINDING TYPE NOISE LIKE AN IMPELLER WAS BROKEN. I OWN A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 89000 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY, THE CAR JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. T\AT LOW SPEEDS, IT REVS TO 5000 RPM AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT STOPS. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT PROBLEMS WORD-FOR-WORD. SOME HAVE BEEN IN ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS UNCONTROLLABLE PROBLEM. OTHERS HAVE OPTED TO PARK THEIR VEHICLES DUE TO THE UNSAFE CONDITIONS. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT OFFERS NO RECALL OR ASSISTANCE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA IN 2009 THE VEHICLE WITH APPROX. 67,000 AS FINE FOR THE FIRST 2 MONTHS. HERE IS WHERE MY PROBLEMS STARTED TO OCCUR, WHEN TURNING TOWARDS THE HIGHWAY I ACCELERATED TO SPEED THE CAR HESITATED AND WAS PUTTING THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. ONCE I RETURNED FROM OUT OF STATE I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP EMPIRE NISSAN IN LAKEWOOD, COLORADO AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT THE SITUATION WAS, THE SALESMEN STATED TO DISCONNECT THE WIRE TO THE BATTERY TO RESET THE LIGHT, I DID THAT AND IT WENT RIGHT BACK ON AFTER A COUPLE OF STARTS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE HE SAID IT WAS THE OXYGEN SENSOR? IT WAS REPLACED, THEN THE VEHICLE WAS FINE FOR AWHILE UNTIL THE ODOMETER READ APPROX. 75,000 I NOTICED THAT IF I WAS GOING DOWN A HILL AT A FAST PACE THEN PUSHED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THE RPM'S REVVED UP TO 5 AND THE ENGINE WOULD MAKE A LOUD NOISE TO ACCOMPANY THE RPM'S AT 5. VEHICLE HAS BEEN WORSE EVER SINCE I NOTICED THAT, IT THEN STARTED TO SLIP IN GEAR, GOING FROM R TO D OR D TO R ONCE SHIFTER IS IN PLACE IT WOULD PAUSE THEN JERK INTO GEAR. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AAMCO THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND ALSO THE FLUIDS TO THE TRANSMISSION. $700 LATER THE VEHICLE IS WORSE! NOW THE CAR WHILE IN MOTION WILL KICK AND JERK HARD IN GEAR WHILE THE RPM'S GO ALL THE WAY UP TO 5. WHEN CAR COMES TO A STOP WITH FOOT ON THE BREAK CAR WILL JUMP FORWARD. MY LATEST INCIDENT IS WHEN AT A STOP AND MOVE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR STARTS OFF AS IF IT WAS IN 5TH GEAR! GOT THE CAR HOME AND PUT THE SHIFTER IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND IT READS THE ENGINE IS IN 5TH GEAR. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 4 YOUNG CHILDREN, THE CAR IS SO UNPREDICTABLE, WHETHER IT IS GOING TO JERK INTO GEAR OR COMPLETELY STALL OUT. THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING DONE WITH THE TRANSMISSION BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED DRIVING THIS SAME TYPE OF CAR, THERE ARE SEVERAL PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME CAR, PLEASE PLEASE DO A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION OF THE 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA!!!!!! *TR
